I keep getting reminded how Jack (one of the three kids in Doey) wasn't even an orphan. Jack was a young child with loving parents who fell into a vat of dough mix while on a tour of the factory. Probably to avoid lawsuits, the scientists locked the parents in the room with Doey, knowing the play dough monster would kill them. Jack unknowingly killed his parents.

A Feast for One
— — —
Abraham knew it was wrong. But how could he deny himself? If it was bad, why did God make flesh so delicious?
He ripped into the still-warm corpses of his family, pulling out chunks of stomach and lung and liver. He gorged himself on their oozing organs.
He felt embarrassed as the blood dripped down his chin, but alas, there was no neat way to dine. Still, he reached for something to clean himself. The closest thing was his daughter's wedding veil. He'd have to inform the groom she wouldn't be coming, but that could wait.
He continued to feast.

My best guess regarding Xornoth’s personal timeline is that he got corrupted via the patch in the ruins, then fucked off to Shelby’s homeworld to do a genocide for whatever reason (maybe so Exor could be sure Xornoth could do his job?) and brought the corruption there with him, and then he came back to free Exor. Somewhere in the middle of this he apparently murdered his and Scott’s parents, although I don’t think Scott ever elaborated on that particular one-liner? (I remember that at the time, I wasn’t even sure if Scott was talking about his parents, or if the past life memories took over and he was referring to Alinar and Cohnal’s parents. It was a really out-of-the-blue one-liner.)
im still thinking about Scott of Rivendell's lore + was trying to suss out what was up with Aeor and Exor was I was trying to devise an AU. i then proceeded to get bogged down in deciphering the lore bc i couldnt find what i was looking for on the wiki and honestly im noticing things i didnt notice the first time around
This is mostly derived from a close reading of The Clash of the Great Stags, which Scott discovers in his Episode 13 buried in an old ruin under the mountain.
(Note: some things are worded as questions but that's not because im seeking you, dear tumblr user, to give me an answer. it's more a 'im working out what my answer is through the medium of asking questions, and am offering u my hand to lead u through my thought-process')
A good deal of this may also be "this text is a myth and not supposed to be Literally taken as the history of Rivendell(minecraft)". However I'm going to turn this thing over and shake the pennies out of it. Im also going to put this under a readmore because whoo boy did this get out of hand Very fast.
So. I was thinking some thoughts
namely:
while Exor (and Xornoth) later becomes very much associated with the corruption that overtakes the server, Exor did not create it. In the myth Scott reads in Episode 13, it points out that Exor and Aeor were the only two gods left standing/awake after all gods present defeated the original corruption. Im assuming this is out of Rivendell's gods and not. all gods ever. Otherwise this would probably include Jimmy and Lizzie, and that counters their lore.
Aeor and Exor ruled equally after that point. However. Exor had a Nightmare Moon arc that involved way more murder (tho im sure Nightmare Moon would have murdered if she was allowed to) because Aeor was praised more than him
They were equals until Aeor started getting worshipped more
"Aeor and his followers believed in peace, equality, and preserving life while Exor believed that not all were equal and shouldn't be treated as such." Was this the way they'd always been as gods? And they were simply forced to set this aside in order to save the world from the original corruption? Or was this a mindset Exor developed later, as the 'weaker', less-worshipped god trying to claw his way back up to being seen as equal or beyond?
Alternately, was it during this period that the 'corruption' came back, worming its way into Exor? Was he a god of something else until he festered and changed behind Aeor's back? Was the corruption jealousy? Was it metaphorical? Did Exor accept the change or did it rot away at him until jealousy and evil was all that was left?
The myth says that Exor and his followers (who'd been culling the weak) were driven out of their lands (Rivendell) by "the followers of Aeor", not by Aeor himself. Is there a difference? Would Aeor's followers not believe what He, their God, believes? Or is it worded so passively because despite everything, Aeor wanted to believe his brother could still be the god who stood beside him and saved the world with him? Did his believers follow their values and act out against Exor + his followers without Aeor's guidance?
Aeor eventually battling Exor with "almost all the strength he had left ... seriously injuring both". Aeor then "imprisoned [Exor]and his followers deep within the mountains, never to hurt anyone again, or so Aeor thought." After this, the next paragraph begins with saying that the gods of old were no more than bedtime stories.
Did Aeor fall into one of those deep slumbers after sealing his brother and his followers away? Did the gods from those 'deep slumbers' mentioned in the first paragraph of the story ever come back? Was Aeor left to rule over the Rivendellian people all alone, exhausted, waiting for his strength to trickle back in over the centuries?
Does worship = existance for gods? If Aeor and Exor were the only two gods remembered by name from "those old stories", are they the only two gods Rivendell actually has left? Scott never worships anyone besides Aeor (though the wiki points out one passing reference he makes to "the fortune gods" (ep 5), nor acknowledges any other Rivendellian gods besides Exor.
Jumping a little ahead but Aeor also canonically fucked with everyone's memories, wiping existance of Exor + the trauma he and his followers brought after the final battle... but Exor still exists? Is that because he is a brother god to Aeor and like how Scott&Xornoth adn Alinar&Cohnal were bound in soul, Aeor&Exor are? I consider that bond canon but it's fascinating that the very thing that tied them together from their inception as gods was the thing that saved Exor's life and allowed him to later still destroy everything, even if Scott still 'beat' Xornoth in the end
Of Alinar and Cohnal; the phrasing of "Alinar remembered the stories their father told them of the past about the evil stag spirit, Exor, and how he was banished deep into the mountains by the mighty Aeor" is fascinating. Exor is demoted over the years to 'an evil spirit' and Aeor promoted to 'the mighty Aeor', where we Knew they Were Once Equals.
The area they find with the statues and the ruins, which we have to assume is where Scott found the The Clash of the Great Stags book in Ep 13, is not described to be covered in corruption yet, like how Scott found it.
Cohnal heard a voice that promised him "power and wealth" if Cohnal helped free Exor. Though the line, "Years passed and Cohnal frequently visited the ruins, much to the protest of Alinar," is fascinating. It shows that corruption is a slow/gradual process. Maybe it's fast for elves being longlived (confirmed by Scott in Ep 13 saying "I've lived here for years, centuries, and I've never known about this place?) /silly
Here's something I consider Particularly Interesting. It says "Cohnal became more violent, reclusive, and resentful, spending weeks deep in the caves." This, I think, is evidence towards the conclusion that Exor's jealousy was either deepened or directly caused by the corruption poisoning him. Cohnal started off as just 'rebellious', only to descend, over years, into being violent, reclusive and resentful, set on freeing Exor - i.e. the corruption. Now That's freaky. What happens when even a god gets infected past their own free will?
"Alinar eventually joined the high council of his kingdom. The townsfolk no longer felt safe with Cohnal and his actions, banishing him from the lands." Oh Boy. The Brothers Are Direct Parallels of Their Gods' Relationship. Alinar ascended into a trusted and beloved position. Cohnal got super-duper banished and started murdering even more people about it. Alinar also has to go find his brother and get rid of him. The Rivendellians are literally trapped in a vicious cycle dude. Aeor and Exor literally go through this 3 times by the time Season 1 ends.
It's also by this point it's concretely confirmed that the corruption is part of Exor now - or maybe that Exor is part of the corruption. The myth uses the word 'corrupted' three times in three sentences to refer to Cohnal's new demonic form. So. yeah.
I also find it fascinating that Exor crystalised his beliefs/expected faith/worship into 'weeding out the weak', when he is the one who - despite all his best efforts - is consistently defeated by Aeor. This is partially why I am interpreting this 'we have to kill off the weak and only the strong shall remain" belief Exor instilled in his followers as a result of the corruption on him, and not necessarily something he organically embodied while he ruled with Aeor.
And battle breaks out once again, "both champions of The Great Stags." Wohoooo divine proxy wars!! And Alinar beats Cohnal! No wonder Exor kept trying to come back. I'd be pretty resentful if no matter how low i stooped i could never beat my brother.
"Knowing he couldn't just banish him underground again, Aeor channeled his power through Alinar and together they opened a portal to another land, forcing Cohnal and Exor into the Unknown, never to be seen again." Alright. Alright. Tragic. We know that they sealed them in the End, and the Ender Dragon ended up being the key there? i have headcanons about that but those aren't necessarily related to the body of this post
Then. The Memory Wipe. Which i discussed before. "As sadness began to overwhelm Alinar and offering some comfort, Aeor used the remains of his power to wipe the memories of everyone in the land. No one would remember the evil caused by his brother, Exor, or by his champion, Cohnal."
Is this a kindness? I think it's a kindness Aeor desperately wanted for himself. He gave it to Alinar and to his people because they probably could not cope with another devastating divine war being in living memory, but also because on a personal level?
The thing that's killing me? and it's not addressed in the myth nor is it anywhere on the wiki page? Is how Xornoth ended up being the new vessel for Exor.
The corruption is introduced onto the server from Nether portals, tho, as far as anyone knows, right? And we know via Shrub that Xornoth the Demon has been around and harrassing people Before everyone's Episode 1.
Is that where the corruption originally came from, pre-Exor? Or did Exor manage to leak the corruption out of the End and into the Nether, then the Overworld? I'd be inclined to believe that the corruption spread on its own, but gave Exor that link back to the overworld.
In those ruins Scott found the The Clash of the Great Stags book in Ep 13, those had a patch of corruption in them, despite being unconnected to any Nether portals. This is the original spot where Cohnal was doing sacrifices and got demon'd, and Alinar found him. Has this spot of corruption been here The Entire Time, over the centuries? Is this the same spot that Xornoth got lured to, just like Cohnal did? Only to fall into the corruption's clutches?
And if that's the case. How the Fuck did Xornoth end up in the End only to be unleashed after the Dragon's death? (maybe you could see this as Exor got him to go to the End however many years ago to try break him out, but it wasn't enough / the magic seal recognised Xornoth's soul as Cohnal's and sealed him too). Im sure there's something there but that's what i'm hung up on rn. That's what this whole deep dive was for.
But okay. okay. The last paragraph of The Clash of the Great Stags is so chewy to me too.
"The prophecy says that when the world needs them, Alinar's new being would be reminded of his past life and set forth to stop the corruption. The battle of two brothers would once again commence, plunging the world into an eternal winter if Exor and his newest champion were not defeated."
If Scott Doesn't Go Fight Xornoth, He Is Destined To Plunge The World Into Eternal Winter. Is... is that a bug or a feature? Is that something that is a result of Scott's powers manifesting in a strange way... or is that Aeor's way or guiding Scott to his destiny? Did this happen to Alinar too, or is this an insurance policy? To dictate that Scott is not allowed to live a life outside of the cycle that they are both trapped in?
The sword. The sword Aeor gives Scott towards the end of Season 1 is of Dwarvish make. The Dwarves are canonically from that first era? i believe? before the first corruption destroyed those first civiliations. This is a technology that predates the corruption itself. Maybe... Maybe Aeor gave it to Scott the same way someone makes sure to use a pure blade on a sacrificial lamb. Scott and Xornoth dying together this way might kill off the corruption itself in Xornoth-and-Exor's joint soul. It might be the only way Aeor can find to truly save his brother.
And then the other question is - if Rivendell truly fell into ruins, if its people were lost and the mortal champions Scott&Xornoth finally died, taking Alinar&Cohnal's souls and therefore Aeor&Exor's souls witth them - ...was this death for Exor and Aeor too?
And. Did Aeor know that?
For Alinar, Aeor gifted the lack of memory of Cohnal (and Exor's) terrible doings so Alinar may live his life in peace. For Scott? Aeor gifted an end to the cycle of violence, and the chance to get his brother back. And really, I think that is something Aeor desperately wanted too.
And. it's 1:30am and i've written 2k words. h elp.
Also this may not be all completely accurate / i may have said stuff that is confirmed / dis-confirmed by canon! i haven't watched Scott's full series since it came out. i am planning on rewatching it like. after ive slept. however, i am enthusiastic and i have two hands

@the-forsakenlegionnaire said: 9. What part of your muse’s backstory makes you aggravated?
Backstory Ask Meme | Accepting
//The one thing that aggravates me is how I have had to build new backstories for both Julie and Saffron.
//Julie's canon backstory is that she is the youngest daughter of Luger and his second wife, who's name is legitimately Mari-Su (Mary Sue), who later was killed, but it was labeled a freak accident. Luger, just like his twin children from his first marriage, are descendants of Dimitri, brother of Edmund, who himself is the ancestor of Knuckles, making him and Julie distant cousins. Not that Julie would know, of course, because Luger's twin children, Kragok and Lien-Da conspired to assassinate him and erased Julie's memory of her birth parents.
//She was placed into foster care with Simon, who was Luger's right hand, and his wife, Floren-Ca. Simon had his suspicions in the twin's involvement with Luger's demise and eventually, Julie was taken from them and her memory was erased for a second time. She joined the Dark Legion a second time with no memory of her life before. The only thing I really kept from the original backstory is Simon and Floren-Ca (now just Floral) but I made them Julie's birth parents. She is now in no way related to Knuckles.
//As for Saffron, the only thing that was known is that she was born in the Golden Hive Colony as Charmy's betrothed. And almost all of her personality was about Charmy, even though they're supposed to be 6. The only thing I kept is the fact that she was born within the Golden Hive Colony, which has since fallen. The rest is of my own creation (abandoned in Knothole, raised by both Rosie and Ana, etc.)
//K.en P.enders sucks.
