An excerpt of possibly my favorite fic I’ve ever written (falsettos)

Marvin felt laughter bubble up in his stomach, exiting his mouth in a giddy burst. It was genuine, loud, and it left his stomach warm. A month ago it was a sound that was completely foreign to him. Marvin didn’t laugh much. He had grown into a bitter, neurotic, and unpleasant man who only laughed with sarcasm or to feign politeness. For Marvin, laughter was a tool to win an argument or to lie his way out of a bad situation. It wasn’t something natural and dizzying that made his entire body feel warm. Nothing in his life was natural. He was trapped in a fake marriage, with a wife he didn’t love, a distant, sullen child, and a psychiatrist who, frankly, just annoyed him.

His life changed when he met Whizzer Brown. Or rather, his entire world was turned upside down. For the first time in years, perhaps for the first time in his life, he was relishing being alive. He allowed himself to indulge in the butterflies in his stomach and the heat overtaking every part of his body. He allowed himself to admire, touch, and hold a man he wanted, who wanted him. He stopped bothering to care about the constant screaming and fighting in his house. He stopped caring about the sobs that wracked Trina’s body every time he came home too late. He didn’t even care that Jason had become angrier, harder, more withdrawn and peculiar, taking to playing chess in solitude. After being taught only how to survive, he was finally starting to live.

something about charlotte and cordelia’s relationship in falsettos being so explicit and affectionate is so sweet…. like lesbian relationships are dismissed as just ‘gals being pals’ so much, but part of what makes falsettos such amazing representation is how up-front the show is about their love! they’re even introduced as ‘spiky lesbians’ and it feels so nice to have a show be so wonderfully frank about their lesbian characters!!

my fellow tumblr users, i’ve been trying to find a clip that I KNOW exists for a ppt presentation i’m making on the 2016 falsettos revival cast and i CANNOT FIND IT. it’s a clip of andrew telling an interviewer that if he had to pick a co star that he hadnt “dated” to “date”, he’d choose christian. i think i saw it on a video called “everyone being in love with christian borle” or something like that. can somebody help me?

12. Favorite musical that's no longer on Broadway

There are so many I wish were on Broadway still, but my favorite of those is probably Waitress 😭

26. Favorite OBC cast of a musical

Wicked OBC has my whole heart. Kristin and Idina both have such distinctly weird voices that sound like they were meant to go together. Norbert Leo Butz (with Idina) has to be the reason why I listen to "As Long As You're Mine" over and over even though I almost never like the song when I see it live. Acting choices are SO GOOD (Idina's Elphie is so soft and it really makes my heart ache). Ugh.

favorite part of the falsettos pro shot lately is in year of the child when marvin is pushing for cordelia to cater jason’s bar mitzvah and she comes over and gives trina the samples and then marvin and cordelia HIGH FIVE because their little gay jewish catering scheme might actually work
