False Rue Anemone
The spring-blooming False Rue Anemone may bloom in the fall if the weather is similar to spring conditions. This hearty flower was seen in Minnesota's Beaver Creek Valley State Park in October a few days ago. Nature takes advantage of most opportunities.

Some of my finds from a hike a few weeks ago. This was as the last of the spring ephemerals were blooming, right before the canopy leafed out.
Middle right
Viola eriocarpa (Smooth Yellow Violet)
Bottom left
Viola sororia (Common Blue Violet - Most likely)
Bottom right
Enemion biternatum (False Rue Anemone)

Check out this cool trackable I found while Geocaching in Harbin Park in Fairfield, Ohio! Such a small, silly thing that made my day. This place has HILLS. Loads of spring flowers blooming. Pictured are a Giant(?) Trout Lily, Spring Beauties, and a gorgeous Wood Poppy with Garlic Mustard, which isn’t blooming yet, but I love it still! Also saw violets, Dutchman’s britches, cut-leafed toothwort, mayapples coming up, false rue anemones and more… virginia waterleaf… and geocaches! Tftc to the cache owners for leading me on a great treasure hunt. Can’t wait to deposit this Gnomes and popcorn trackable on a big adventure later this summer!
Hope you are well and enjoying the day, my lovelies.

Took the kids and dogs on a hike at one of the best trails for spring wildflowers I've ever found. Still a little too early for trillium but lots of spring beauties, dutchmans britches, squirrel corn, false rue anemone, violets, and trout lilies. We even saw the first of the woodland phlox blooms! And 10yo found a caterpillar!

False rue anemone (Enemion biternatum), at Wehr Nature Center at Whitnall Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Update: I originally mis-captioned this as rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides), but had a change of heart. I should have counted the flowers’ naughty bits, as Linnaeus taught us.

False Rue Anemone
Small and obscure, this Anemone seems to fly under the radar. If not for its abundance it would be mostly neglected when compared to the colorful and showy spring wildflowers. This spring ephemeral performs a job and does it well, which if studied should appeal to the common man.

Gallagher fen in June.  By now, August, the esker savanna has bloomed it’s intense tall grass forbe display as the fen once again starts opening another act. Here we see a setting in time, still unique, still productive in it’s own way, each season different and transient, always changing like an endless waltz.
the commonalities of late spring and early summer.
  Anemonastrum canadense
(Bio syn, Anemone canadensis) or Canada anemone/meadow thimbleweed.
Phlox glaberrima,
false sweet william, early smooth meadow phlox.
(fun because there are three phlox species here that give off the vibe that there may be infinite blooms of phlox.) if you visit you’ll love this.
the order is: Phlox glaberrima, Phlox maculata( spotted stemmed meadow phlox), phlox paniculata (autumn panickled woodland phlox).
Thalictrum dasycarpum ( staminate)
Tall white flowered purple sepal’d meadow rue.
funny how this works; but, it would appear that the attractive tepals are vestigial and that this one, just like early meadow rue, is infact wind pollinated.

A Few More Wildflower Identified From A New Location
A Few More Wildflower Identified From A New Location
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! I hope this post finds you well. The photos on this post were taken on May 27th when I visited another set of woods the same friend’s farm. This section is across the highway and East Fork Tebo Creek runs through it. The day I was there it was more like a small river. There are a lot of creeks that only have water in them during the rainy season, but Tebo Creek is well known…

What flower would be associated with forbidden, painful love? Like the obsessive crush of an older sister for her brother, and that she feels envy and sadism towards his potential romantic interests.
