Event: Lake Party
Who: Fallon and Cain ( @exmcrtis )
"So'd you come with Val or Jovi or did you decide to solo it this time?" Fallon asked, coming over to where her brother was, having noticed he was currently standing by himself. "How are things going with them anyways?"

"I might." she grinned back, continuing to gather up snow as he put the gloves on. "He's kind of cute, if you're into that sort of thing. So what has she told you?"
"how the hell are you always so prepared with shit like this, huh? do you have cain senses or something?" he was clearly joking, pulling the gloves on before returning to his snow abomination. "she's told me a little bit about him but isn't super forthcoming with information. i dunno if it's because he just doesn't tell her or if it's because she wants to respect his privacy. i have yet to even see him so i have no clue what he looks like."

Ethel Cain: "“if you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive blah blah blah” 1980s bruce springsteen"
"It’s really a last gasping breath of innocence from a rocker who has embraced adulthood. No Surrender,” became a restless farewell."
Dave Marsh: Bruce Springsteen, 'No Surrender'
"“No Surrender” emerges as (barely) updated Sixties trash rock, far from the crisp electronics of the other Born in the U.S.A. tracks: Thunderous drums and surging washes of guitar support a vocal chorus straight off a 1965 Searchers’ album. The song’s declaration of faith in the transformative power of rock and roll struck some as naive, which was fair enough. The song was written as a character study but was clearly an intimate portrait of Springsteen’s own values. It’s really a last gasping breath of innocence from a rocker who has embraced adulthood. But juxtaposed with the newer sounds and curdled optimism of “Bobby Jean,” Springsteen’s other recent song, “No Surrender,” became a restless farewell, mingling a sure knowledge of the inadequacy of idealism with a stubborn refusal to renege on ideals. In that way the song resembles not “Bobby Jean” but “Born in the U.S.A.” “Born in the U.S.A.” is the anthem of a man who has surrendered to adulthood; “No Surrender” outlines the convictions that sustained him long enough to make that decision. Once that connection is made, it seems not only sensible but inevitable that these characters “learned more from a three-minute record than we ever learned in school.” And it’s the very vividness of his teenage recollection that makes Springsteen believable in the final verse, where he sums up his rock and roll dream:
'Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim The walls of my room are closing in There's a war outside still rag You say it ain't ours anymore to win I want to sleep beneath Peaceful skies in my lover's bed With a wide open country in my eyes And these romantic dreams in my head'
Brash as it is, “No Surrender” is perfectly confident as it lays out a purely “childish” set of values and acknowledges their continuing currency in adulthood."
Bruce Springsteen & Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem): No Surrender, London Calling: Live In Hyde Park, 2009

The Fallon Household has had a run of good fortune. Lenora's attempts to commune with Death paid off - she managed to resurrect her sister, Mina. Not long after that, she reconnected with her brother, Gunther, too! Neither remember what happened to them, but Lenora has other concerns right now. She and Cain had twin daughters, Chloe and Esther. As for Mina, she has developed a relationship with townie, Ella Noire.

who: Fallon and Cain ( @exmcrtis )
"So did you come just to keep me company or you looking to get something for Val?" Fallon asked as they made their way around the trading post. There were a few stalls he was thinking of stopping by himself.

The release, and near-immediate critical beat-down, of Sean Penn’s fiction debut, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff, has provided us all with a lot of shameful joy in 2018. Claire Fallon, in her delightfully scathing Huffington Post review, wrote “it’s physically impossible to dunk on a novel that is already dunking on itself so hard. Bob Honey is an exercise in ass-showing, a 160-page self-own,” while Sian Cain in The Guardian declared “Penn doesn’t just swing and miss with his ambitious vocabulary; he swings and cracks a hole in reality as we know it, leaving us all unsure of the concept of a good sentence, how a novel should be structured and generally what makes sense any more,” and Mark Athitakis, writing in The Washington Post concluded that “Bob Honey is best appreciated as the fever dream of a boomer who watches the news, cannot make sense of it, but cannot contain his fury at it anyhow.”
Penn is, of course, a ludicrously affected and self-important jackass, and it’s both easy and fun to call out his extreme pomposity and the masturbatory nature of his writing. Bob Honey is fruit so low hanging that it may as well be rotting on the ground. Still, Sean is far from the only celeb to stray from his lane in recent years. Sometimes it works out quite well (Kareem, Carrie Fisher); in other instances (Morrissey) it really, really does not.

the ones i listen to the most
rosalía. i appreciate that even tho she's an international superstar she still makes music that's weird as shit. her vocal talent shines on the flamenco stuff but she seems like a real student & lover of all the other genres she pulls from, she comes w the concepts & visuals, & she's also rly hot

saba. rapper from chicago. care for me is a great album about loss & death but he makes fun stuff too
noname. she raps, runs in the same circles as chance the rapper etc, runs a community library so that's the vibe
ethel cain. she's also p versatile, i think her most known song is american teenager which is this pop americana anthem, but i like ptolemaea which sounds like doom & gloom. also she's trans
remi wolf. idk she has a quirkygirl vibe. i like the song quiet on set
the linda lindas. punk teenage girls. went kinda viral w racist sexist boy (they're chinese/mexican/salvadoran)
