Now that I'm back home and somewhat rested, I have a wholesome concert interaction to share.
I kept seeing a particular person go up and down the stairs in my section. We were right at the end of our row so I saw her pass by several times. She had a jean jacket with a HUGE cross stitch Fall Out Boy logo on the back, clearly hand stitched and not a purchased patch. I remembered seeing a jacket just like it on reddit when I was looking up ideas for Fall Out Boy cross stitch patterns. The photo on Reddit was from a year ago, but the jacket she was wearing had the cross stitch pattern in the same spot and had several more patches on it and I was like... I wonder...
(At this point I should explain that I'd brought several mini misheard FOB lyrics cross stitches to share with a couple folks in my cross stitch FB group who were also going to the concert. I also made an Elder Emo piece for me to put on my bag, but I ran out of time to actually make it into a patch before the concert. I stuck it in my clear bag front pocket anyway because it still looked fine.)
Tumblr media
Jimmy Eat World had finished their set and we were waiting for the stage to be reset, so I hopped onto reddit to find that post with the jacket. I commented on the old post asking if she was at the ATX concert because I thought I saw her jacket. I figured she might have her phone on silent or might not have reddit notifications on, but maybe I'd find out after if she replied.
I told my partner to try to get her attention next time we saw her because I wanted to at least give her my Elder Emo not-patch, whether or not she was the same person from reddit. I'd already given away the other cross stitches I brought but desperately wanted to gift something to her because that jacket was awesome and I knew she'd appreciate a cross stitch more than the average person.
Within five minutes my partner spotted her coming back down the stairs. She almost didn't see us, but the person with her helped us get her attention and I was able to successfully give her the Elder Emo not-patch!
And just a few minutes before FOB hit the stage she replied back to my reddit comment confirming she was at the concert. Which of course meant I got to tell her I'm the one who handed her the cross stitch. And then she told me the back on it was so clean which is such a nice compliment 😭
Anyway now I'm mailing her the few other tiny cross stitches I have and this was an excellent concert experience. 💜

Hi Lemon ❤️!! I have a song ask for you for Nice Ask Week!! 🎵 Lone Star, especially in seasons 1-3, gifted us with so many great songs to go along with scenes! What is your favorite song that Lone Star has used and the accompanying scene with it??
Hi Desi!! Thank you so much for sending me a music ask!! An impossible ask! I honestly think that 9-1-1 OG has the better soundtrack, their use of music is so clever and it always makes me laugh or adds to the emotional experience of whatever is happening in the show. But I do think Lone Star does that to an extent!
If I had to choose one favorite it would be Fever by Elvis playing during the sexytimes scene in 2x12 as the condo starts to burn. That was an inspired choice, and I thought they choreographed everything really well with the song and the boys being passionate and the flames sparking!
Since it’s me, I’ll give you my favorites from every season
Okay, one thing I really did love about the soundtrack in Season One is that they tried to use artists from Austin and a lot of alt country songs. That really helped with establishing authenticity.
Gold on the Ceiling by Black Keys at the end of the police station scene in 1x03. Perfection!!! It really lends to the playful manner that we see is being established in their relationship.
If You Need To, Keep Time on Me by Fleet Foxes in 1x04 while Owen showers. Love this band and this song, and it really lent itself to the scene!
Laura Marling covering A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall (Bob Dylan) when TK & Owen discuss his cancer. Inspiiiiiiired.
Westfall by Okkervil River playing during Judd’s chat with Billy about Owen taking the CPAP. I LOVE Okkervil River so much, and they are indeed from ATX!
Someday by Glorietta !!!!! David Ramirez and Noah Gunderson !!!!!! I saw them play this song live in 2018 !!!!! I swear to you I screamed when I heard this song playing in the background of this scene when I was watching live!!!! David Ramirez is also from ATX !!!! And the song is just so perfect for this moment that Owen and TK are having, and kind of this part of their story arch for the season. Where TK is kind of realizing that Owen isn’t perfect, and coming to terms with some of the ways he’s failed him in the past. (@lonestardust made an amazing gif set with this song and this scene and I need to find it so I can rb it!)
S2
How Lucky by Kurt Vile 2x08 after TK finds out Gwyn’s leaving. KURT VILE MY BELOVED!!!!!
S3
Dead Island when TK wakes up & Charlie is born. I had no prior concept of this song but I really really loved the way it built up and really tied the two scenes together.
Naked Kids by Grouplove during the Push In ceremony
THE MAH NA MAH NA SONG DURING THE BASEBALL GAME!!!! Took me ouuuut. THE MUPPETS??? Nothing more perfect has ever happened. 3x07
Homenaje a Lucho Macedo playing during the loft hang at the end of 3x07. I love how happy and upbeat it is while TK’s about to get the worst news of his life. And it feels like something Carlos would totally have on his playlist.
Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie when TK’s a sadboi and Carlos calls Cooper 3x13 Listen, I have seen Death Cab play live about 47 times, and let me tell you, seeing them play that song live will change your life. It will rearrange your brain chemistry. The build up! The emotion!! The absolute devastation!!! Seeing TK listening to that song took me right there and gave me all the goosebumps.
S4
Blue Skies by Ella Fitzgerald while Carlos is being held captive in that creepy house 4x04. Again, such a perfect song (not just because Ella Fitzgerald is the greatest singer of all time) because of the complete dichotomy to the situation. So clever, I really enjoyed that!!
Wipe Out by the Ventures while Asha is interviewing the 126 in 4x05 😂😂😂

Everything We Know About Legacies Season 2
Tumblr media
We still have a long wait ahead of us before Legacies Season 2 premieres, but details about the new season are already starting to trickle out, and it's enough to get us hyped!
The finale left fans in a bit of a lurch, as Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) dove to her apparent death into the Malivore pit to stop the evil monster-gobbling golem from rising. In doing so, literally everyone forgot she ever existed, meaning her friends at the Salvatore School aren't exactly champing at the bit to rescue her. Meanwhile, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) found the ascendant (a magical device used on The Vampire Diaries) they made when they were children to lock their evil uncle Kai (Chris Wood) in a prison world, which sounds all kinds of bad.
So where will these dangling plotlines pick up when the show returns? Here's everything we know so far about Legacies Season 2.
Legacies will return to The CW this fall. Legacies will fall in the middle of The CW's fall premiere schedule, with Season 2 debuting on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c.
We'll find out what became of Hope right away. "The mystery of where [Hope] is and what happened is actually the way we begin the first episode," showrunner Julie Plec told TV Guide at the ATX Television Festival. "Within the first few minutes, we'll see what's become of her. I think it's going to be fun to watch her first realize that she's not dead and, two, realize how she's going to get herself out of this mess that she's made."
Tumblr media
Hope will be trapped somewhere with Ryan Clarke (Nick Fink). "One of our favorite stories from Vampire Diaries was when Damon and Bonnie got stuck in the prison world together. We love sticking people together who do not want to be together, and in this case Hope and Clark are with each other and none too happy about it," Julie Plec told TV Guide.
Whether or not that situation will turn them into the best of friends or moral enemies is still up for debate though. "I think when you're stuck with someone — we call it the 'trapped in the elevator' pitch — the end result of that is always going to either be you have a new and very important understanding of who that person and maybe have been able to find your way to common ground and to bond, or you just really hate them even more than you hated them to begin with. So you'll have to tune in to find out what their future is," Plec said.
We'll be introduced to a new vampire character. A new vampire is headed to the Salvatore School, and though he'll be young in spirit, he'll be old in years. "We really want to bring in an old, old, old-world vampire," Plec told TV Guide. "But we want to introduce a vampire who kind of got desiccated when he was 17 in maybe the 15th century and now wakes up in the 21st century and realizes that all the rules of being a vampire have changed and that he does not fit in into this very modern world."
Tumblr media
We may get a visit from the Originals. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Plec did reveal there's a decent chance for the Originals to pop up in this season's storyline. "I think there's going to be an opportunity this year to see some of the Originals," Plec told TV Guide. "I don't know who and I don't know when, but the way that Hope's storyline is shaping up, there's definitely a link to the family that got left behind as well that we will have to address at a certain point. And it would be nice to see a familiar face."
Tumblr media
Romance could be on the horizon for Josie. Plec told TV Guide that the twins will be spending the summer apart from one another and trying to get back to healthy places both physically and emotionally. For Josie, that means digging into the Gemini Coven future in store for her and her sister, but it might also mean a new romance for her. "When they're apart that opens a world up for Josie that's very different than the world she lives [in] with Lizzie day by day," Plec said. "And actually, we'll see her start to make new friends and maybe even some new romance."
Lizzie will spend the summer in Europe with Caroline (Candice King). While Josie is busy with summer at the Salvatore school with their dad, Lizzie will be getting in some mommy-daughter time. "We're having a lot of fun with the idea that Lizzie is spending the summer in Europe with her mom, both doing some therapy and also touring all the hot boy hot spots of Europe," Plec told TV Guide.
Season 1 of Legacies is currently streaming on Netflix.

3, 11, 22
I’ve answered 3 and 11 over here.
22. three songs you listen to when you’re sad
It depends on why I’m sad. It’s usually some rock/emo/pop/all of the above. Or something lyricless… So in no way is this definitive but…
Church by Fall Out Boy
Good Grief by Bastille - legit screamed when they started singing this at Biggest Weekend, I love it and it cheers me up even though it’s not a happy subject. (The video is a bit… hmm… But the song is amazing.)
Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. It gives me happy ATX memories which perks me up. :)
Thank you for the ask darling!! XD

Shopping for Santa: My IADNTBBDIWI-list!
Tumblr media
In the last few weeks I spent most of my precious spare time to do some home improvement. I repainted the living room, which means I had to move away all the furniture including my desk. So no tinkering for me these two weeks. To fulfill my maker desires, I did a lot of window shopping on Ali Express and E-bay. And since X-mas is just around the corner, I hereby present you my IADNTBBDIWI-list! (I Absolutely Don't Need That, But Boy Do I Want It!)
TS100 Soldering Iron
Tumblr media
I've owned lot of different soldering irons since I first started soldering 30 years ago. When I stumbled onto the TS100, I absolutely didn't expect I could fall in love with a piece of burning hot metal. The TS100 is a 65W Digital soldering iron with an on board OLED display. It's feather light, and has internal processor that could have easily sent the Apollo 11 to the moon while running in low power mode. Not only does it look sexy, it is lightning fast in terms of heat up time.
The form ware is open source, allowing you to tweak it to your needs. You don't think you need an soldering iron with open source firmware? And what if I tell you you can run Tetris on it? That definetly makes soldering 0201 SMD packages way more challenging.
If you buy it, keep in mind it comes without a a power source in most cases. I just used an old Laptop power supply, which works wonders. I also recommend buying a conical tip, but that is op to your own preference.
TS100 on AliExpress - TS100 on eBay
DPS3005 Digital Power Supply
Tumblr media
The DPS series are Constant Current / Constant Voltage programmable power supplies. They are a great starting point if you want to built your own bench top power supply. Just like the TS100 soldering Iron, you can upgrade the firmware to tweak it to your needs. The large color display will make your workbench look like Tony Stark's mane cave.
The downside is that it comes without an AC power supply and since it needs an 6 - 40V input voltage, you need to find a powerful power source yourself. You could use an old ATX power supply for this, but that would limit the voltage to 12 volts.
None the less, the DPS3005 is definitely on my IADNTBBDIWI-list!
DPS3005 on AliExpress - DPS3005 on eBay
ANENG AN8008 Multimeter
Tumblr media
Of course, I already own a digital multimeter. But just like with soldering irons, I somehow always feel I need more. If you follow some of the big electronic engineering blogs, I'm sure your came across this one. Not because it has some exotic features, but simple because it's a really decent multimeter for a ridiculous low price.
If you don't already own a digital multimeter, go stand in front of a mirror, and ask yourself how you survived up until now. And then order the ANENG AN8008. If you do own a multimeter, simply put this one on your IADNTBBDIWI-list.
ANENG AN8008 on AliExpress - ANENG AN8008 on eBay
Mastech MS8910 Smart SMD Tester
Tumblr media
Speaking of multi meters ... If you are into SMD soldering, this nice compact digital SMD tester really comes in handy. It measures resistance, capacitance and continuity. Works fully automatic and is lightning fast (compared to my regular digital multimeter).
If you are indeed into SMD soldering, you might actually need this one. Otherwise, it's a great tool for your IADNTBBDIWI-list.
Mastech MS8910 on AliExpress - Mastech MS8910 on eBay
ES120 Electric Motion Control Screw Driver
Tumblr media
This piece of beautiful engineering is from the same creators as the TS100 soldering iron. It's a chargeable cordless motion controlled screw driver. Again, with OLED display. You just turn the screwdrive in the desired direction, and with the help of an accelerometer the screwdriver will do the rest. When you have ever opened up an iPhone (or anything similar), this is what you want.
Is it indispensable? Absolutely not. Do you want it. YES OF COURSE!
As soon as you own this screwdriver, just ask your Siri, Alexa or Cortana to respond to the name "J.A.R.V.I.S." and you are ready to fight the bad guys in your Mark 42 armor.
ES120 on AliExpress - ES120 on eBay
Wemos Lolin ESP32 OLED
A post shared by Michael Teeuw (@michaelteeuw) on Aug 8, 2017 at 1:32pm PDT
If you play around with Arduinos, or are a regular on my blog, you've probably heard of the ESP8266 and it's successor the ESP32. These two Wifi enabled microcontrollers allow you to connect your digital toilet scale to the web. Because who doesn't want to tweet the mass of your last bowel movement.
Anyway, the super powerful ESP32 is now conveniently packaged by WeMos on a breakout board with an on board OLED. For less than 10 dollars, you can now show the number of likes and retweets your current bowel movement recieved in real time! Boy, what a time to be alive!
Lolin ESP32 OLED on AliExpress - Lolin ESP32 OLED on eBay
Sonoff
Tumblr media
Don't feel like soldering? But want to automate your home? Check out the Sonoff product line. Dirt Cheap remote switches. To control your home using your smartphone. The coolest part, is that the modules are powered by an ESP8266, allowing you to flash it with your own firmware.
With these units there is no reason to leave your coach: "J.A.R.V.I.S. make me some coffee!"
Sonoff on AliExpress - Sonoff on eBay
LCR-TC1 Transistor and Diode Tester
Tumblr media
If you are like me, and order a lot of cheap parts from AliExpress, components might end up in a asorted components drawer from time to time. You could use the printed type number on the package to find out what type of component it is. But using a gimmicky little device with a color display is simply more fun.
Will it change your life? No. Will it make your workbench look even more incomprehensible for non technical people? Hell yes. And that is what we all want.
LCR-TC1 on AliExpress - LCR-TC1 on eBay
I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of good stuff. Make sure to post your personal favorites in the comments down below. Together we can point Santa in the right direction!
PS. Feel free to subtly send a link to this blog post to your significant other Santa ... ;)

My Austin with East 72nd + VASAV Digital
We’re still celebrating #internationalwomensday over here... I am so grateful to work alongside these two badass women. Meet Makenzi Hogan of East 72nd + Savannah Hickey of VASAV Digital who help keep The Scout Guide Austin’s social media + editorial features not only looking pretty, but full of fresh content. I love collaborating with them and a day doesn’t go by without us texting or emailing about something work-related (and otherwise!). We spend lots of time each day, week + month promoting the local businesses featured in our Volume 8 guide and most of their hard work is behind the scenes. So get to know our Austin team with a little deep dive into Makenzi + Sav’s favorite aspects of our favorite city. Enjoy! xx - LAK
Tumblr media
Photography by Paige Newton at Hotelette Austin | Left to right: Savannah Hickey of VASAV Digital + Makenzi Hogan (& Wilson) of East 72nd
TSG: What’s your favorite season in ATX?
MH: Spring! Nothing beats a 75 + sunny day in Austin, Texas between February + April!
SH: Spring! When you can appreciate the warm weather rolling in + when Austin comes alive again.
TSG: What’s your favorite Austin event?
MH: Austin City Limits or a TSG Austin launch party!
SH: Oh, Great answers Makenzi!! I’m going to have to agree.
TSG: What’s your favorite Austin neighborhood?
MH: This is so hard! I love the walkability + community of Rosedale, but also have a soft spot for the East Side.
SH: I love how charming Hydepark and love the spaciousness + hidden gems of Dripping Springs. Wineries, trails, ranches - the list can go on.
Tumblr media
(above) Makenzi Hogan of East 72nd
TSG: What’s your go-to place for a drink?
MH: Clark’s for $5 Happy Hour martinis!
SH: Barchi on Sundays! Great $5 lychee martinis & I can indulge in a sushi roll or 3 ;)
TSG: What’s your go-to coffee shop?
MH: Anywhere I can bring Wilson, the dog. If it’s sunny, we head to Better Half, but for cold or rainy weather, we hang out in the South Congress Hotel.
SH: I do love the Vietnamese Nitro at Hideout off Congress + 7th! Gives me the feel of a Friends coffee shop + their toasty sandwiches are a fave also.
TSG: What’s your go-to for a special night out?
MH: It’s always changing because Austin is always welcoming a new gorgeous restaurant or bar. Right now, it’s Comedor followed by Garage Bar next door!
SH: Starting off at any Tatsyu-ya restaurant/bar + spending the night on the Eastside. Whether that’s at Central Machine Works, Hotel Vegas or Whistlers.
Tumblr media
(above) Savannah Hickey of VASAV Digital
TSG: You know you’re an Austinite when…?
MH: ...you leave town for SXSW!
SH: ...you bring your pup to almost every bar + restaurant.
TSG: Favorite part about living in Austin?
MH: Aside from everything? I love that it has a big town culture with a Southern small-town attitude.
SH: Oh boy, I can write paragraphs. Buuutttt, I am going to try and keep it short. I love the dog-friendly atmosphere EVERYWHERE I go. I also love the outdoor culture and all of Austin’s hidden oasis’ - my favorites are around Lake Travis or the greenbelt. I’m also very proud to be part of the community of small business owners here in Austin!
TSG: Describe an ideal day in Austin…
MH: First, let’s set the stage: it’s sunny, but not too hot, allergies are non-existent and there’s no traffic, whatsoever. Wilson, the dog, and I will meet a friend to walk Town Lake, then make our way over to Swedish Hill or Tiny’s for lunch (with a glass of white wine, because #LadiesWhoLunch). After an outfit change, Wilson and I will head to San Jose to get ahead on work and other creative endeavors. If we’re being really indulgent, a massage at Milk & Honey. To follow up a great day, we’ll meet friends for dinner at Perla’s or Junes - outside of course!
SH: Definitely agree with Makenzi’s first sentence. All👏🏼of👏🏼that👏🏼is👏🏼huge! I love to start off the day with an early morning hike on a trail around the Greenbelt and if warm enough, a quick dip into sculpture falls. Then after a rinse + outfit change, head out for treasure hunting through east Austin’s boutiques and vintage’s shops, like Charm School or Dylan Wylde on South Lamar and squeeze in lunch from any food truck that is hiding near, preferably Las Trancas. Finishing off the day with a #happyhour at Whisler’s or Matt’s El Rancho.

This article contains spoilers for Gossip Girl. Just so you know...
You, both the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes and the TV adaptation set to debut on Lifetime next month, gains its power from a brilliant trope subversion. The story takes you inside the mind of Joe (played in the TV series by Penn Badgley), a NYC bookstore manager who falls in obsession with a beautiful stranger named Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Joe uses social media and other modern technology to stalk Beck, molding himself into the perfect boyfriend and removing any obstacles to their burgeoning relationship.
The story is chilling for the ways in which, from a casual outsider's perspective, Joe is the ideal man women have been conditioned to seek out. He's smart, handsome, and literally saves Elizabeth's life when she falls onto the subway tracks in Brooklyn. It's only the viewer, who is given access into Joe's internal monologue and most disturbing of actions, who understands that this isn't a romance; it's a horror.

"My experience with Joe as Beck is great in a lot of ways, in that sense that he rescues me, he reads, he's smart, he's handsome," Lail told Den of Geek at the ATX TV Festival. "Beck's experience of him is a bit of a romantic comedy, in more ways than one."
Kepnes, who was involved in the adaptation, wrote the book as a way of looking at the way our culture can "romanticize people who seem romantic," she said at the ATX TV Festival.
"That's where I started with it," she said. "'Oh, a guy in a bookstore, holding books and being sweet and sensitive.' It's so easy to assume that's it, and this is why taking that dream and looking inside of it and what that experience is really like to be that person, and be in this romance, when we have all this social media, and all this communication, and how it affects us and how it enables us to do things."
Sera Gamble, who created the show alongside Greg Berlanti (yes, he has another show on TV), has proven adept at subverting, exploring, and embracing tropes in her work as showrunner of The Magicians.
"I really love books, or any written word, that take something that you've been taking for granted, and ask you to look at it in a more realistic way, to look under the hood at what's really going on," Gamble said.
And I was really struck by how much I believe in those romantic comedy tropes. I grew up loving Say Anything, and kind of believing that Lloyd Dobler's the perfect guy and reading this book, it made me contemplate that she had said no, and he was standing outside her window at night, not taking no for an answer.
"It really appealed to me that we could make a show that both tells a very modern, very specific, kind of twisted love story," added Gamble, "but also is giving a very hard look at those kinds of stories."

A subversion of the Dogged Nice Guy trope isn't the only meta commentary that is happening in You. Avid teen drama watchers may know two of the show's cast members, Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell from hits Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, on which they played Dan Humphrey and Emily Fields, respectively.
Both shows share themes of surveillance culture with You, though Gossip Girl in particular treated the use of modern technology to stalk as a mischief-making inconvenience rather than something horrific or invasive. It makes the casting of Badgley in You, whose character turned out to be the eponymous Gossip Girl in Gossip Girl, yet still managed to hold onto his role as a romantic lead, particularly interesting.
"In my mind, the pilot episode's first scene is Dan Humphrey," said Badgley, who admits he didn't notice the similarities before actually viewing the finished pilot. "When I saw it, I was like... that is way more similar than I'd ever personally wanted, but then, what it does is, from the second scene to the last scene of the pilot, it progressively is like, you don't know what the hell you're getting into here."
Did the show's creators set out to cast Gossip Girl himself in You's lead role?
"In all honesty, we never talked about it," said Gamble. "I mean, obviously, we were aware that [Badgley] had done really good work on that show, and I watched some of that show. I really like the meta thing, but that happened organically ... If you're doing a show that is partly about the hyper-connectiveness of technology in 2018, then I guess you're bound to find a little meta-thread of any other thing you've ever done."
The meta threads may not have been intentional, but that doesn't mean they're not a whole lot of fun for media-savvy viewers who like to make those kinds of connections.
"Now, having seen a lot of the series, and having shot the series," said Badgley, "I actually, personally, am really into that [comparison], so I'll say that."
Of course it's not just previous TV shows You is in conversation with. The adaptation, like all adaptations, is also in conversation with its literary source material.
"Without giving too much away, I will say that we do a lot of the same stuff in the show," said Kepnes. "Not all of it, but a lot of it. However, there are some deviations and surprises for fans of the book."
One of those changes is in the narrative's point-of-view. The book stays claustrophobically close to Joe's perspective, but, while the You pilot stays inside of Joe's head, later episodes will give us Beck's perspective, too.
"In an early episode, we switch to her POV," said Gamble. "We wanted to widen the world and make it more expansive. There is plenty of world inside Joe's head, but I think, to be a functional TV show and also really to earn the relationship when you're watching the characters onscreen, I thought that we had to get to know Beck a little bit better, if we were asking people to watch 13 hours about her."
Another new addition is the character of Paco (Luca Padovan), a young boy neglected by his parents who lives in Joe's apartment building. Joe takes Paco under his wing in what is the most sympathetic moment for the generally unsettling character in the show's first episode.
"This is the genius of Greg Berlanti," said Gamble, noting that Paco was Berlanti's idea. "I think part of the reason that he is maybe the most successful producer maybe in the history of television, certainly one of them, is because he has x-ray vision to find the heart in a story.
I think we talked so much while we were developing the pilot when we were writing it together is that Joe doesn't enjoy doing bad things. He just has a very strong personal code. And he has an especially strong personal code when it comes to the woman that he cares about. And there's this sort of, almost an old-fashioned chivalrous affect to it, but he believes in and it gives his life a certain kind of meaning, ina way. He knows what side of his code he always wants to be on and so Greg was just like, 'You know what we need is a kid. We need a five-year-old kid.'
Badgley said he loved working with Padovan, the young actor who plays Paco and he sees the scenes featuring Paco as "evidence of where Joe is trying to do the right thing." For Badgley, the addition of a character like Paco is the kind of change from source material to on-screen adaptation that makes perfect sense.
"The narrative paradigm that Caroline's used [in the book], that it's all in Joe's head, is so compelling and chilling," said Badgley. "But you can't do that in a visual medium ... That is why it was really necessary to have something like Paco, whereas in the book, I think the fact that something like that doesn't exist is similarly brilliant. The book is a little bit like: 'You're not getting Paco.' He's nowhere to be found."
As the actor inhabiting the character of Joe, Badgley's scenes with Padovan were "a respite" from the darkness of Joe's mind and his obsession with Beck.
"With Paco he's like, 'I'm actually going to be really open with you' in a way that he is not with others, surely due to all of his unwitting misogyny," said Badgley. "He doesn't have that with this young boy who reminds him of himself, for better or worse, often for worse..."
You premieres on September 9th on Lifetime. The book is available for purchase on Amazon or your local independent bookstore.
