Reflection of the day … Return of the Miccosukee Greenway pond - nature tends to win in the end. The pond dried up several years ago due to the damming of its source waters on behalf of a massive “small city” housing development that also required the razing of a multi-acre forest. The dam failed last winter - no surprise in swampy north Florida - causing the pond to refill and expand into the picnic park and across an athletic path. A small berm was built to protect the path. Other trails were rerouted. Birds are loving their restored habitat but the lost woodlands may take decades to return.

Fun Fact! In the fall and autumn months, snakes will invade already made burrows for hibernation. Usually, these burrows already have mice and other prey living inside, which the snakes will devour for both vacanct home and a filling meal.

the fact humans think its possible to have an entirely animalless/bugless zone is such hubris and such a dangerous thing to try to pursue in general. life would be so much easier if you learned to coexist with the nature around you instead of constantly try to shove it out, an ultimately fruitless endeavor.
