Who is the "prince"? (P3 spoilers)

Ikutsuki mentions the prince being the one that makes the Fall happen, being crowned the king of the world after.

This is what Ikutsuki believes himself to be.

Ikutsuki also mentions Death, knowing that it's the combined Shadow, thus making the prince and Death seperate entities.

This Fragmentory Memoir seems to contradict that, though, mentioning the prince will be born on the same day as Death. Ikutsuki, being a reasercher on the experiments, is too old.

However, this one mentions the prince being the one to gather Shadows(thus creating Death), meaning they're different entities again. It makes sense how Ikutsuki thought he was the prince then, since he's the one who made SEES fight the Shadows.

The Memoirs also mention that Ikutsuki's interpretation of the prophecy is wrong. This is consistant with Persona Club P3.

But, what is Ikutsuki wrong about? The sacrifice of SEES is an obvious one, being mentioned by the Club Book as well. It doesn't seem to be needed at all. It's not too clear, but Ikutsuki seems to think that the Fall would happen right after he sacrificed SEES, while in reality it wouldn't happen until a few months later. The Memoirs call it the documents(of times the Fall almost happened in history), while Ikutsuki calls it the prophecy. Since the Memoirs mention the prince being born after Ikutsuki was, this is another thing. Another strange thing is the king. Ikutsuki thinks that's what the prince becomes after the Fall, but no concious being exists then, so that can't be right. The Memoirs instead just mention the king saving them, not ruling at all.

Death's identity is obvious, but all this has been showing is who the prince isn't.

Well, we need someone who gathers Shadows, was born 10 years ago, is similar/close to Death, and saves the world.

Hero fits. He's the leader of SEES, taking an active role in defeating the Arcana Shadows. He also carried Death for 10 years, being the one to awaken the Shadows in the first place. Saving the world is obvious, and even fits with his ascent from the prince to the king(being when he creates the Great Seal, also fitting Ikutsuki mentioning him ruling after the Fall). The only thing is he was born too early, but I think that can be explained as a more symbolic birth than his actual one. The moment he becomes the prince isn't when he was born, but when he gets Death sealed inside of him, that also being when he gets the Wild Card and becomes connected to the Fall.

When Cass asks if he wants to come to Drake's funeral he tells her that he has to go and never calls her again.

Things continue to be strange at his foster home. All of his material needs are taken care of and are even taken care of well. The Spears had provided for him but Cass dressed him the way she thought he should dress. The Donovans took him shopping and let him buy what he wanted.

They didn't bat an eye when that was mostly black.

He examined the curls of smoke thoughtfully. “Then we’d better find out.”

"Way ahead of you..." the words left him in little more than a breath while he attempts to make sense of whatever it was he was feeling right in that moment; that strong thump in his chest, a crippling sense of impending doom.

He'd felt it before, it was undoubtedly familiar, the same when he was listening to the cries of the dying back home, while he watched his birthplace burn. It was the same as when those pale jade eyes locked with his own, back then, and here in this vast expanse of nothing.

But it was none of those things triggering this flight or fight response, but something else, something bigger than the both of them combined. Bright mako stained eyes continued to comb the surrounding area, flickering only momentarily to the Buster still propped against an outcropping of stone, so sickeningly out of immediate reach. Not that Cloud had the skill to wield the thing as his own weapon.

But then he saw it, in the near distance; the glow of yellow eyes glowering over the waters of the ever encroaching tide invading the grotto, the reflection of which glittered in the murky ocean, and that sense of impending doom intensified. The breath stilled in the very bowels of his throat, eyes wide at the sight of whatever those eyes belonged to, staring at the pair of them, sizing them up, before the tell-tale plink of the water as the creature submerged.

They had encroached on another's territory and now they were the prey right here in this cave.

"Attention at Two O'clock... It's big." A harsh whisper as he dares to take a single step back, the silence of this place deafening, the glow of the surrounding corals so very suddenly blinding to the eyes and that sensation of dread forcing the bile into his throat.

So, he'd noticed. Even with his SOLDIER days behind, Sephiroth couldn't hold back a satisfied grin beneath impassive eyes.

"Very good. You are sharp." He praised him, rising his sword to eye level then, in a two-handed stance at the shoulder.

"But not ahead of me."

Slit pupils dilated slightly as the shadow of the creature beneath the surface came into view. The silver-haired one moved forward, two long strided steps, and swung. The sword danced at an angle, in an upwards sweeping motion like the stroke of a painter on his canvas. The blade itself would make no contact with the rocks he'd aimed at. And still, the shock wave hit the cave ceiling with violence, shaking the whole bowels of rock around them. Large boulders broke off, severed by neat moon-shaped cuts and plunged into the waters below, in a deafening crash of dust and water.

Sealing their way out; the one they knew of, anyway. But it would buy them some time.
