<3I shop at Saks, and not the discount rack<3

My day in Yorkville, Toronto.

To start today off, I made sure to dress my best. I wanted something exciting, something that screamed I live here and I do in fact do brunch on every other day of the week as well as Sundays. Something that shouted “I shop at SAKS and not the discount rack”. Something that would let everyone know, in a generally nice to look at kind of way, that I, Carrie Bradshaw, can afford to live in a studio condominium in the heart of the fashion district Downtown.

It was quite rainy out. I wondered whether or not they would let me in to the Christian Louboutin Flagship store if my shoes were soiled from the outside… Thank god most of the walkways are pretty much cobblestone so it should not be too bad. Right?.

I never noticed how many people actually ~live~ here.  I must have bumped into twelve people with their dogs just passing the doors of condominiums.

This made me think, why do people live in such tiny houses if their dogs are so big???

Between the many storefronts bursting with the most aesthetically pleasing window displays and the coffee shops with the smell of expensive espresso emanating through their windows, it seems to me like Yorkville gets me a bit off track.

I walked by this shoe store right. Not surprising, but the shoes in the window caught my eye. They seemed to be floating in mid air - that is if you pretended not to recognize the use of invisible wire holding them up. Anyways… These shoes had CHANGEABLE wedges. Only in Yorkville would their literally be a shop that instructs their customers to change up their stilettos multiple times a day. The workers inside were a bit cold, maybe they were thinking I did not deserve my own pair of shapeshifting shoes? Nevertheless I walked out empty handed. If I was going to do a stiletto, I might as well fit in with a red sole.

I love the buildings here… They totally remind me of a miniature soho. It’s like make it Victorian but also make sure there's a Starbucks on every corner. If I do not pay attention to the traffic up the street, the Victorian architecture and cobblestone streets make me feel like I teleported to the south of France. These streets give me neighborhood envy, I just want to live in every painted brick house where I can have window shutters I can paint pink.

Ok so I walked through a bunch of the skinny streets, and I have to say this place known as the “Mink Mile” is most definitely a favourite. I have not seen this many designers in a row since the New York fashion week line-up. Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Burberry… and MIU MIU. It’s like I have gone to retail therapy heaven. I can almost hear the sound of my credit cards screaming, this street is most definitely not good for my wallet.

The beige faceless mannequins that accompany the store windows that line the streets seem like they talk to me; like they are telling me to just come in the store for a little peak. A little peak that I know it will ultimately result in me carrying out a handful of thick cardstock bags with satin ribbons. I am convinced they strategically place these mannequins in poses that almost reach out to you from behind the glass. It wouldn’t be Yorkville without these honorary citizens.

DEATH

Last night I sat with a group of friends and we created, we spoke on politics, we cried, we laughed, we drank wine, and we smoked (they smoked. I can’t do no weeds). But one of the things that lingered over into today is the topic of death. 

I’ve seen a lot of death in my life. 2-3 funerals a year since a child, living in a city with a high or the highest homicide rate in the united states, death is always around. I used to not be scared to die, and I think it’s because I didn’t want to live. As I got older I realized it’s not that I didn’t want to live, it was just that I didn’t have a reason. There was nothing on this earth that kept me tethered to it. I was ready to check out at so many points in my life, but now I’m TERRIFIED at the thought of dying. 

Why? Because I started my clothing brand. ‘Bridge Boy’ literally saved my life. It’s my superhero. And there’s so much I want to do with it, it’s all I think about most of the time. It is my life and I don’t want it to die. I was just reading ‘The Power Of Relentless’ by Wayne Root, and there was a small segment in there where he said we should write our obituaries. Although dark, I think he’s right. What do you want your obituary to say? What would it say if you died right now? Mines would probably say “Loving son, friend, uncle and brother” and I think that’s pretty much it. It would be short. It’d probably be mostly pictures, and some kind words from the people who love me the most. Touching, but it’s not what I want. 

The things I want my obituary to say are: 

Loving father, son, friend, uncle, and brother

Genius fashion designer and overall creator

Positive figure in his community

His legacy will forever live on

You know sh*t like that. 

My story is not done, and it’s far from finished. I’m still creating it. So unlike my friend, I’m utterly TERRIFIED of dying. What about you?

wish there were more standardized tags for subcats of unreality. like i'm fine with neuralblender and multi-person fakeblogging (for lack of a better term? multimisinformation projects, i heard they're called. like cloudsnap & psmp). heck, i really enjoy them. but derealization messes with me, so i'd like to filter like that without blocking out neuralblender & mmps.
