"You made a mistake! I--!"
"No! I don't make mistakes! You might make mistakes, my brother might make mistakes, I make choices. I make bad choices that hurt people and I make them on purpose knowing what the consequences will be. I hurt you, I hurt every person in every realm, and I would do it again a hundred times. A choice like that can't be forgiven by anyone ever and I chose it anyway."

I just discovered the existence of the "Upside-Down Tales" series. They are those books that were "double books". If you read them like a regular book, you have a traditional fairytale, but if you read them from the back, in reverse, you have a parody of said fairytale where everything is... well, upside-down, with the villains becoming martyrized victims and the heroes turning into evil antagonists.

There is also a Beauty and the Beast book in the series but I can't find any pictures of its covers...

Chapters: 3/? Fandom: Undertale (Video Game) Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Sans (Undertale)/Reader, Papyrus (Undertale)/Reader, W. D. Gaster/Reader
AU’s - Undertale, Underfell, Underswap, Swapfell, Horrortale and perhaps more ;)
Relationships - Various x Reader, Reverse Harem Trope
Chapter Summary:
“NOW THEN FRIEND AND HONORED GUEST! IT'S TIME FOR THE MAIN EVENT!” His grin was almost giddy and you couldn't help but chuckle at his enthusiasm. Papyrus seemed to be all he said he was, a charming host, a great spokesperson and a rather refreshing reprieve in the midst of the dull thrum of the house, you wondered if he was always like this, always so easy to talk to, not that it mattered you supposed, after today you wouldn't meet again after all.
Both Blue and Papyrus pushed two large silver domes near you and your brow rose, it seems you’ll be treated to two meals at once, you briefly wondered if it was rare, a chance for them to showcase their skills to a stranger, even for one as out of place as you.
So far the food hasn't disappointed, quite the opposite in fact, so when Papyrus and Blue lifted their respective silver domes off of the platters there was no way you could have been prepared for… whatever that was.
The smell was what hit you first, a dizzying mix between bitter and sweet assaulted your nose and made you lean back in your seat, you willed your expression to remain neutral even as your eyes widened at the sight.. What…what happened here? You turned to look up at the two skeletons and noticed how they looked at you with stars in their eyes, waiting for your verdict, you couldn't help but wonder if you had lost something in translation.
You turned your gaze back down, trying to assess just what you had gotten yourself into once again.

Reverse City spoilers but this guy owns my Mihile's whole ass. He doesn't even have a face but he moved me in this story so much. Sad author guy who put his entire soul into his books but also needed the courage of another human being to have the will to live. Kind of boring in his own way but he was so cool-- 'we're all sad lonely pathetic outcasts who want to see our next sunset' theme got me ok
Not to mention there's something really intriguing about isekai'ing a guy from the normal world to this alien one while the PC is from a fantasy world, so you're technically both isekai protags but reversed as well

A Fairytale In Rewind: Cinderella - Flash Fiction
She picked up a shoe on the way into the ball. It had been lying on the steps. Abandoned and shining with the glitter of gemstones and far nicer than anything Ella could have managed. As soon as she placed her foot into it, she realised it fit perfectly, almost reshaping itself to fit to her. The other shoe appeared too, and Ella recognised magic when she saw it working even if her dress didn’t…

I have been having a riveting discussion about Jungian storytelling in both Dune and R/WBY, and if you think I can't make a connection between those two series, watch me try.
Actually for the purposes of comparison, I think there's an enormous gulf between the two tonally, in terms of productions and intentions, genre, literally everything, and even the execution of Jung is entirely different. The Jung in Dune is part of Paul's tragedy and to characterise his magical powers/presience, and his increasing psychological development is part of his increasing descent tragically. The more spiritually/psychologically he is aware of things (as he's a male taught secretly by a Bene Gesserit, he's endowed with special knowledge of the anima for instance), the more his ego is subsumed. @seldomkeep needs to write a post on it so I can reblog it, and then I can write my post about multisexual imagery with the sandworms and Paul and Leto II.
I don't think Herbert was necessarily aware of Campbell by the time he was writing Dune (Campbell really came into awareness with screenwriting after Star Wars) but Paul embarks on an extremely twisted Hero's Journey (and the Hero's Journey is not just a checklist of big heroic acts, it's Jungian) where everything is bad and terrible because Herbert is criticising the Messiah. Before people said the monomyth was overwrought, Herbert was effectively saying the monomyth was overwrought. Lol
But then R/WBY by contrast is really using it as a way of tying together the fairytales/myth (the domain of Jung and Campbell) in the setting and to describe the relationships between characters, most prominently the wound of Salem and Ozma on the world (the symbolic anima/animus split) which is literally a universalised unconscious wound. It is actually quite literal in a fashion because different characters literally represent different parts of the unconscious, and integration of the Shadow is literally represented as community reintegration/redemption. But it's all actually very light and positive because all of it's meant for psychological harmony.
Same stuff, completely different tune.

I know most people are thinking "monsterfucker," but I'm imagining an actual monster who keeps mistaking curse victims for members of his/her species.
This is the third time in a row the monster you were wooing has turned into a prince(ss). Good for them and all, but you’re starting to feel like you’ll never find someone who’s your… “type”.

Fairytales in BD: L'envers des contes
Tumblr media
L'Envers des contes (Bheind the Fairytales) is a BD series for children created by Gihef and Zimra. Taking place in a world that mixes medieval elements, fantasy characters and modern technology in a full fairytale-urban-fantasy, the idea of the series is to explore in a goofy way the "villains" of several famous fairytales that turn out to not be as wicked or sinister as we think.
Currently there are three volumes in the series. "The not so ugly stepsister of Cinderella", about how Javote actually worked behind-the-scenes to ensure Cinderella's happy ending ; "The not-so cruel stepmother of Snow-White" about the Evil Queen's reinsertion into society after a forced "cure of goodness" ; and the "Not-so malevolent godmother of Sleeping Beauty".
