Have you ever redesigned the Mermaid Heel gals? I'd love to see your take on them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in 2022 i had plans to redesign mermaid heel that never came into fruition. But I have wanted to redesign Arania and Risley specifically for years. For Risley I wanted to keep her general visual but make it more cool girl style. For Arania I aimed for Whimsy-goth vibes because I hated her jumpsuit look.
Milliana's design is her "7 year later" version of my 2022 design. And Beth and Kagura's canon designs are actually ones I really like so I just added slight twists to them.
I didn't put notes for them because any notes I have will need to wait for when I get there in my rewatch.
Hopefully you like them!
Bonus: 2022 milliana for everyone

ultear's timeline is so jam-packed it stresses me out. she's a side character technically, but her lore is insane.
Like, Ultear as a child is tested on for at least a year before escaping, finding her mom, vowing vengeance on her mother for replacing her. Then she goes back, gets experimented for a little bit longer, and destroys the place, all before age 10. Then hades finds her, she joins grimoire heart, and she masters time magic. But around that time, she also possesses a 7-year-old jellal under the guise of being Zeref at like 13.
Then from 14-25 she "slows down" a bit, just doing some mass destruction to find seals for Zeref and taking in a child. oh and don't forget how she joins the magic council with like 17-year-old jellal as siegrain who again, she is manipulating, and begins aiding lyon in freeing deliora from the ice that is her mother.
im pretty certain that all happens before natsu and lucy meet in hargeon.
this behavior absolutely continues in the 7 year timeskip. she rebuilds her relationship with her adopted daughter while continuing to raise her, breaks jellal out of the highest security prison in the nation, presumably helps him get his memory back(? unclear on when that happened). then with that merry trio, she founded a pseudo-dark guild, destroyed several "legitimate" dark guilds, perfects the spell to unlock the second origin or something, and keeps an eye out for Zeref-likr magic throughout an entire damn country. All while on the run from the Magic Council, and several other dark guilds.
like what the hell are you on?

If you were in the Fairy Tail world, would you join Fairy Tail or some other guild? Explain.
I'll go first, Mermaid Heel, there's a lot that can be explored, they may do more than what Mashima gives their guild, and an all female guild would be the most comfortable, for me at least.

HES SAUR FINE THOOUUUUUU
Tumblr media
as they - she, kagura, milliana, risley and arana - exited the endless corridors of the labyrinth that was the preliminary for the grand magic games, they were met with a roaring audience. they finished sixth, out of 8, which wasn't too bad considering their competition.
the other 2 guilds already announced were fairy tail and quatro ceberus.
fairy tail hadn't participated in these games in a while, after their humiliating defeats. but this year - they might actually have a chance at victory. she knew too much about the guild, especially with her history, and she knew the tenrou team had returned and would be participating in the games. she didn't know many of the people on the team closely, but she heard of their names and saw some pictures from him.
he disappeared with the rest of them 7 years ago. not a word, and not a trace. she still remembered the day of his departure, how he took off from the tent and how she chased him in his lightning form, how she couldn't get there in time to help them fight but still watched as acnologia blew them to shreds. what she thought was the last seconds of his life.
but there they were, the friends he told her about, competing in a fight to be the best guild. she knew she should've been happy when she first saw their guild making a comeback, but she couldn't help the feeling of fear that swept across her heart. his friends were there, but where was he?
its been 3 months since their return, and she hasn't heard a word from him. she saw the members of his team cheering in the crowd with the rest of their guild, but the man she loved was nowhere to be found.
"what's on your mind?" kagura said, leaning over to the woman. they weren't close but kagura had seemed to take some kind of interest to her, occasionally checking up on her, asking her questions about her past.
"it's.. nothing." i replied, short vague responses was usually all kagura got out of me. but, if im being honest, what else could i give? i shouldn't be in these games right now, i'm in no condition to fight. maybe a few years ago, when i was strong, but now? my body is brittle and malnourished, my eyes are dead and i haven't smiled in years. my alcoholism has aged me an unreasonable amount, and i am just a shell of my former self. my magic power has depleted beyond what seems fixable, and i feel like im slipping away faster as each agonizing day passes. hauntingly beautiful, a ghost even.
it seems i have zoned out through three of the introductions as they are now announcing the second place.
as the crowd roared in excitement, the second place team came out - fairy tail team b. it felt as if the whole world was spinning, as if nothing existed in that moment except for me - and him.
he stood there, next to the pretty white haired girl - mirajane - unscathed and just how he looked 7 years ago. perfect. i felt as a smile bloomed onto my face, tears prickling my eyes. i couldn't hear the deafening roars of the crowd as sabertooth was announced, as my heartbeat seemed to drown them all out. i wanted to run, to run across the stadium into his arms, i wanted to cry about how i missed him, ask where he'd been, i wanted to throw myself into his arms and never leave. but i couldn't, i seemed glued to the spot i was standing, with my eyes glued to him, maybe he didn't recognize me. maybe he chose not to look, but still, he was alive.
a spark seemed to have been relit in me, that fiery spirit and my will to live. my gaze never seemed to leave him, as his eyes finally met mine. i saw how they widened a little in shock as he realized it was me, how his lips curled into a rare smile - not a smirk, but a smile. a geniune smile.
how it ended as quickly as it started, as the teams were dismissed and let to leave, how his guild pulled him away as i couldn't help but smile like a lovestruck fool.
and thats exactly what i was. lovestruck. i loved him and i would forever, the anguish and worry from the past 7 years seeming to lift off my heart. my beloved would be mine again soon, my perfect.
that night, i drank. shamelessly and without a fear, i hadn't touched a drop of alcohol for months, because what if i lost myself to it again? what if i started and couldn't stop? but it was different this time. i drank, not to forget but to celebrate, i drank because i loved him and i refuse to love in fear. i drank because i had a reason to live again, and i drank in celebration, instead of out of habit or to avoid my pain. i was an alcoholic but in those moment, i wasn't. in those moments, i was a 19 year old girl again. a 19 year old girl traveling fiore with the man of my dreams, a girl without a reason to cry. someone so endlessly happy and content.
a euphoric smile lit my features as i stumbled out of our bar, determined to find the one fairy tail was occupying - and after a few block, i settled at the rowdiest bar amongst the 20 i had seen, one with men flying around in barrels.
i entered the building, unnoticed, as i scanned the group for his face.
and there he was, in all his glory - sitting at a table surrounded by his friends.
i stumbled over, tripping over my feet a little, before finally getting to him, slumping myself over him, and wrapping my arm around his neck.
he was clearly less drunk than i was, as he tugged me into his lap, before wrapping me in a tight embrace.
"almost thought you were mad at me for a sec.." he whispered into her ear, as tears filled her eyes. she missed him so so much.
"could never be mad at you.." she replied, as her tears fell and her smile grew.
she heard him murmur an "i'm sorry" as his team seemed to stare in shock a little, his grip on her didnt loosen as he held her to his torso, maybe pulling her away a few times to look at her face and plant a kiss on her cheek.

this is a list of moments where natsu is smart (and then some) (episodes from 33 to 48)
(should i- should i still call it that? it fells like its more of me just yapping then anything else, lmao)
(anyway)
- when fighting wally and milliana, managed to turn his disadvantage of head being stuck in a cat helmet into an advantage using milliana's love for cats,so that she would be hesitant to attack him and would sabotage wally when he attacked (also using milliana's plush as a shield against wally's attack, good use of your environment)
- (cunty gray fullbaster)
Tumblr media
- (also, kudos from me to ikagura, who managed to corner erza, and forced her out of her armor and to rethink her tactics, no one else have done it, you are underappreciated queen)
Tumblr media
- (and second also, like, poor natsu? when they where on galuna, he saw how gray nearly killed himself twice, after phantom lord, was worried that lucy decided to go home, and now, simon is telling him that erza won't back down even when etherion strikes, thus killing her and jellal, his team is full of self-sacrificial people, huh?...(combine it with how zeref became cursed, just so he could bring natsu back, what is it with people around natsu-))
- (and another kudos from me to fucking jellal, you sly bastard. tricking EVERYONE around into thinking that there were two of you, and that etherion is necessary to destroy r-system, when actually it was the only way for it to gather enough magic power to do its work, ingenious, i got goose bumps from these scenes-) (or maybe its all just ultear's puppeteering, still cool tho-)
- (natsu... punching those he cares about into unconsciousness, so that they don't overexert themselves, huh... (okay, it happened only to gray and erza as of now, lucy is lucky she avoided it))
- (it is also evidence for how well nastu can mask and hide his emotions, because as he got erza, he smiled, and talked about another quest and paying lucy's rent, and started tickling erza, but the moment she passed out, his gears instantly shifted 180º, telling about how erza cried, that she gave up, and how he is going to fight for her to wake up from this nightmare, like, he was 100% putting up a brave face for erza)
- when fighting jellal, he was focusing very hard on smell, sound, and touch, to predict jellal's movement's
- when jellal said that tower can't handle more destruction, or magic will start to leak out, he immediately punched tower, that destroying is what fairy tail does best, aye! (that also means jellal can't fight in full power, while natsu has no such restrictions)
- eating etherion in substitution to his fire, and actually absorbing it, triggering his dragon force, damn, our favourite freak of nature, everyone! sure, it was a gamble, but one that paid off (what is it with you putting weird things in your mouth? first, when fighting lullaby, you talked about how would souls taste like, now etherion, and a bit later laxus' lightning, are you an animal? (don't bother answering, we know you are🥰🥰🥰))
- used falling chunks of tower to climb up to jellal and to catch up with him
- (oh, our assassins are okay, whew)
Tumblr media
- natsu managing to find erza in that whirlpool of magic and save her (its not really about being smart, but i can't imagine that feat being easy, okay?)
- got the idea to "melt" erza from being a stone with his fire? makarov and happy kicked up a fuss, but gajeel was rather calm, even if he said that it was risky... task failed successfully, i suppose. erza is free, so that's what counts.
- (wait, i forgot that gajeel was even dealing with ivan, what the f-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- (AND ONCE AGAIN, how the fuck lisanna is even alive? she talks about how she doesn't feel anything, and based on her reaction and how her eyes look she probably became blind. that's some spinal AND brain damage AT THE LEAST. how she managed to walk around edolas as if nothing happened-)
Tumblr media
- correctly interpreted Laxus's impatience as worry, because his plan really was all or nothing, with all being named master, and nothing being, uh, i dunno, destroying magnolia? but now he won't have either
- (also, what in all hells, natsu? once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, but thrice is a damned pattern, stop stripping in your fights, you are not gray-)

Posting these to break up the oc posts. I'm thinking I might make Wally look more like a Marionette/ventriloquist dummy in his first appearance because my idea is that the tower crew disguise themselves as circus performers to kidnap people as sacrifices for the tower.

Fun fact: according to canon (and therefore something that could be completely or partially ignored), Orga is the same age as Kagura, Milliana and Eve. Which would make him 16 at Fantasia. And I'm not saying he had a teenage crush on Laxus, BUT...
I have some thoughts on that. I dislike the idea of playing it straightforwardly, feels like it cops too much on Sting and Rogue having that with Natsu and Gajeel. But what about this:
What if he started out that way? What if he was singing praises for Fairy Tail and Laxus in particular in X784, one of the few people not dragging their names for filth and defending them. And then, all of that goes out the window when Tenrou Island gets destroyed. By the time he has a chance to join Sabertooth, Fairy Tail is a run-down embarrassment to the magic community, and Jiemma and the rest of Sabertooth make it very clear he has to drop any embarrassing likes or dislikes to stay in the guild, especially about weaker guilds.
So to get to his dream of being as powerful and respected as Laxus, he ends up having to spit on his name, basically. And by the time of X791, he's all but forgotten his old fanboy-isms.
If you go this route, then the reappearance of Laxus at the X791 GMG is kind of like meeting a stranger, only that stranger is the idol you had as a teen and had the biggest, dumbest crush on.

Please may I have a Fairy tail age regression scenario of when Little! Juvia is in a rambunctious mood and can't help but feel a desire to push some limits..her Caregiver! Gray was extremely patient because the others were very close to losing their patience with her noisy behaviour (and toys) today. Some of the caregivers were extremely grateful when Caregiver! Gray told his little! Juvia in the nicest way possible to tone down a bit with her little toys..considering some of the littles were asleep in the backroom.
*Caregiver! Lucy is a caregiver to her little! Wendy*
*Caregiver! Laxus is a Caregiver to his little! Freed*
*Caregiver! Erza is a Caregiver to her Little! Levy and Erza is often a babysitter for Jellal and the other members of the littles*
*Caregivers! And basically babysitters Gajeel and Natsu often babysat Sting and Rogue..*
(There was also other littles who also had an assigned Caregiver too in the Fairy tail guild)
Little! Juvia is a diaper user and Gray only put her in them as a precaution and rightly so considering how often she had accidents and she never realised considering that she uses her diaper as if she was using the toilet..
Noisy Raindrop
It was the middle of the day at the Fairy Tail Guildhall, and the middle of a multi-Guild playdate being held inside. Everything was going just fine so far, up until it was decided that naptime was coming up.
“Alright, all the beds have been set up in the room. Time for all of you to settle down,” Laxus stated, lifting Freed to his feet.
Not a problem, normally, but not all Littles were expected to actually nap, which caused the ones who were to start pitching fits.
“How come they get to stay up while we have to nap?” Jellal demanded.
“Yeah!” Sting exclaimed. “I wanna stay up too!”
“It’s so unfair!” Freed huffed.
“Guys, how the others choose to care for their Littles is their choice,” Erza explained patiently, holding a sleepy Levy in her arms.
“And we’re caring for you guys the way we choose to,” Gajeel stated, holding an actually asleep Rogue in his arms. “You can keep playing later.”
“And some of you are pretty tired, oh yeah!” Richard commented as Cobra and Midnight leaned against him, half-asleep.
“And all of you know how important naptime is for you,” Jura lifted Lyon into his arms. The icy Little huffed quietly.
“And others have already had their naps today,” Mirajane said, looking up from where Lisanna and Kinana played with each other.
Gray sighed, “Besides, they won’t just be playing while you guys are asleep,” he explained. “Juvia here will be having a snack and sitting with us. Isn’t that right, Raindrop?”
Juvia giggled, reaching for his hand.
“We’ll be setting up games for all of you to play together once you guys wake up,” Natsu explained, “And you don’t want to be too cranky to play later, do you?”
“No..” Sting sighed.
Jellal crossed his arms with a pout.
Lucy gently bounced Wendy in her arms. “Let’s get you all settled down, okay? We’ll wake you guys up when the hour is over.”
“Fine,” the Littles synchronized.
“Alright! I think everything looks pretty good,” Lucy said.
“I think so, too,” Erza said.
“We help!” Milliana exclaimed. Erza ruffled her hair affectionately, “You sure did!”
“Can we play the games now?” Kinana asked. Mirajane pulled her close, “Not yet. We need to wait for the others to wake up first.”
“Although, I don’t think that’s stopping some of them,” Kagura said.
“Oh no..” Gray murmured, watching anxiously as Juvia played with toys that loudly played some form of audio. First it was a dragon toy that had a voice box inside that would make it roar whenever you squeezed its chest, then a magic fairy wand that played music, a star necklace that lit up and played a jingle, and the list just keeps growing.
Gray honestly wondered if the Little was purposefully testing his patience given the fact that she only played with these toys after the others were still napping. She also never showed much interest in such toys before.
Not that he would lose his patience with his precious Raindrop, but he could feel the gazes of the others on his back, knowing they are slowly losing their patience with him.
He cleared his throat, grabbing Juvia’s attention. “Raindrop, maybe you should put those toys away,” he said, gently taking her current toy. “Besides, you’re supposed to be sitting with the Caregivers. I’ll let you have one quiet toy, but you have to stay with me.”
“Mmm..” Juvia murmured quietly, “Papa..”
Gray almost instantly knew what that meant. “Oh dear,” he chuckled lightly, “Let’s get you cleaned up, shall we?”
“I’ll go check on the others to make sure her playing didn’t wake up the others,” Erza said, before ducking into the back room.
Gray took Juvia into the designated changing room, then cooed at her and tickled her stomach once she was laid down onto her mat.
“We need to have a talk, sweetheart. You knew you weren’t allowed to play with any of those toys while the others were napping, right?”
Juvia sheepishly nodded.
“I’m not mad,” he quickly clarified as he started on getting her cleaned up, “But you are aware that those toys would have woken the others, right?”
“Juvi.. didn’t..” she admitted. “Juvi sorry..”
“Don’t worry about it, Raindrop. But those music toys are getting put away after this, and you’re going to have an early bedtime tonight.”
“Aww..”
He quickly changed her, getting her into a clean diaper, before taking her back out into the main room.
“Crisis averted,” Erza assured. “A couple of them were waking up, but I was able to get them to settle back down.”
“And Juvia here won’t be allowed near those noisemakers for the rest of today,” Gray assured the others.
“Thank goodness for that,” Gajeel huffed quietly. “Rogue is a pain to settle back down once he’s been woken up.”
“What Little isn’t?” Erza giggled.
“Alright, you’re sitting with me from now on, Raindrop," Gray booped Juvia's nose.
Juvia giggled.

✨🦄Happy Pride Month, Lucistars! (maybe I'm almost late) 🦄✨ Today I want to present my new design for Li Ye Mao, one of my BNHA OCs that she is from class 2-A (I haven't drawn her since the penultimate year). 🩵🤩💖🤩🩵 I wanted to give new more variable touches, knowing that her design is inspired in Catra (especially seasons 4 and 5) from She Ra and The Princesses of Power and other girls with cat characteristics such as Argo from SAO or Milliana from Fairy Tail. 😸
For that, I'm starting to redesign Li Ye: Now she has coily hair, more cat-like eyes, and eyebrows that reminds a lynx. Her main color would be turquoise blue, the favorite for boys and girls. Since she was little, Li Ye took wrestling classes, challenging gender norms. We can tag her as a "tomboy" perhaps she has a sensible side: Her taste for the masculine doesn't make her truly lesbian... 🤔 Since she has studied in U.A. she had a crush in her friend and classmate Mawata Fuwa (like Utena with Anthy), although her parents only know it.
🏳️‍🌈 This draw is my approach to participate in a challenge from @_popap which you can include a LGBT+ character. 🏳️‍🌈
Also, this is a REDRAW that I had done back in 2021. It was a great challenge! Template by: @bampire on Deviantart.
✨ Credits: 3D model for the pose, Freepik images for the pattern; lots of references on Pinterest and Google.

; Aquila and Altair
It's Altairis who took his life. A black hole for such a bright star. Its death, he knew. The Eagle died long ago in a dark cell and its remains finally came for him. It was a matter of time. Simon's eyes were used to the dark but the light needed time for him to notice. He was seventeen light-years late. Decapitated, Aquila passed away. He felt it but never saw the extent of its supernova.
In which Simon stargazes with Jellal one last time, look back to what their friendship used to be and see how fragile it always was.
You can also read it on AO3 | Words: 3,517
"If you could be an animal, what would it be?" asked Jellal once, watching the ceiling. They were bored. The others were sleeping but the two boys didn't seem able to. Their cell was in a pitch black and the wind made them shiver. Winter was the most difficult season and apparently, this year, it was worse.
Simon thought for a moment. An animal he'd like to be? "A bear," he said.
"A bear?"
"Yeah. Big and strong. They're big predators and no one bother them. I could protect whoever I'd like if I was a bear."
His friend giggled and turned to him. His face was almost imperceptible but Simon's eyes were adjusted to the dark and so he saw his smile. "I feel silly now. Because I'd like to be a bird."
"Well, sure, if a pigeon is your goal, that kind of sucks but there are big birds that are pretty cool." He reached him to nudge his shoulder with a smirk. "You could shit on them."
Jellal tried not to laugh too loudly. They heard Milliana groan in her sleep and looked at each other with big eyes. The little girl didn't wake up and they snickered.
"You think I could be something like an eagle?"
"That would be sick. We'd be both predators. Maybe we could still be friends."
"Don't bears eat eagles?"
"I wouldn't kill you." The boy nodded and the silence fell once more. It was uncomfortable. It reminded them of where they were. "Why do you want to be an eagle anyway?"
"Same reasons as you, they are strong. But also, they can fly. And I wish I could fly."
"Mhm, it seems nice. We could leave this place, if we could fly."
"Yeah! And–" Simon shushed him, so he continued in a whisper. "And if I could fly, I could touch the stars."
A sigh. "I kinda miss them. Night is different when you can't see them. Kagura would always ask me if we could go stargazing."
"Grandpa Rob told me we could see them from here before, but they built a new floor and now we can't..."
He saw Simon's pained expression. Family was always a though subject, for all of them. After all, Kagura was probably dead. Erza said that she saved her but... she was only six back then... And when he saw Milliana or Sho, he couldn't imagine how such a young child could survive on her own. Simon was a clever boy, so he probably wasn't as hopeful as Erza was.
"Simon. When we'll be out of here, we'll go stargazing together. I'll show you everything I know and you'll do the same. And we'll be experts."
"Experts?" asked his companion with a weak laugh. It was a little victory for Jellal. He made him smile. "You know, I went stargazing but I know nothing about it."
"I do! I'll tell you everything!"
Simon couldn't help but hope. It did sound like a plan. Him and Jellal, the others too, outside and watching the stars. Of course Jellal would ramble. He never shut up. And to be fair, that's how he liked him the best.
"That's Altair," Jellal said. "Aquila's brightest star."
Simon smiled weakly. The only good thing about this cursed Tower was its height and how the stars felt close. Tonight, it was just the two of them. Wally prefered to watch a movie, Sho was playing cards with some friends and Milliana went to sleep.
Perched on the tower's roof, Simon wondered why he agreed to come in the first place. It was cold up here and... Jellal changed. It's been long ago since he became a new person, a stranger that Simon didn't know. He tried to understand him but it was impossible. All he could do was play a role. He knew Jellal felt it, the resentment he had for him and the facade he kept, but he didn't seem to care. Their friendship became fragile with time. He wanted things to go back to how they were, but Jellal wasn't a person he was fond of anymore.
"The Eagle. That's another name for Aquila."
"The Eagle," he repeated.
"What I'd like to be, remember?"
"I do."
"You'd like to be a bear. You're close to it now. Big and strong."
"You're wrong. It was long ago, Jellal. I don't have such childish fantasies anymore."
"Ah."
He couldn't understand this man he once called his best friend. Because he lied, because he made Erza go. He took everything he had, enslaved him once more to a dream that wasn't his. Jellal was an eagle. He had his claws around all of them and could kill at any moment. Up, high in his tower, he could watch over his pawns. And when he went down, it was only to dominate. Jellal was violent and vicious. A predator. He no longer was someone Simon liked to be affiliated with.
"There's a legend. For Altair and Vega," Jellal continued after a long silence. "In short, Vega represents a celestial princess and Altair, a herdsman. They fell in love. Yet Vega's father, the celestial Emperor, was against all of this since his daughter started to neglect her duties. So he separated them by a river. Vega cried and cried until her father accepted to let them meet. And so, once a year, Altair goes through the Milky Way to join her."
Simon hummed. His mind somewhere else. The emperor, the crying woman and the innocent martyr. Ah well. He wasn't totally innocent either. You couldn't be if you were one of Jellal's favorites.
"But who knows. She neglected her duties. Probably disappointed her dear father. Maybe Vega was a little traitor, don't you think, Simon?"
Erza was his friend since their first day of school. Back then, his mother already died and his father was sick. As for her, she was an orphan. They used to have fun and spend time together, everyday. He remembered how she came to him at his father's funeral, with the prettiest dress he ever saw. They hugged and he cried. It was the day he understood he loved her. After that, he'd always give her flowers or write to her. It made her happy.
He never found it fair when she became so enamored of Jellal. He was here before him after all. But the other boy shone like a star in their dark cell. He'd do speechs on freedom and justice, how time was just and that one day they'd all be free. Jellal used to laugh and Simon felt warm everytime he heard it, even if he hated to acknowledge it. Now that he was older, he knew that he never compared to him. His jealousy used to make him mean when Erza was around. He entered in a rivalry where he was the only actor. And even with all of that, Jellal smiled and helped as much as he could. He was a boy, a slave, but sometimes it felt like he was a bird in a cage, singing and trying to fly, imprisonned and fragile, but full of hope nonetheless.
Simon hated to accept it, but he used to be perfect for Erza. They weren't on the same level. He remembered the day Erza was taken. He did nothing, he waited like a coward. If life was really just, as his old friend used to say, it should have been Sho. But the child wouldn't have made it. That's why he wished for Jellal to take her place. He would have survived and came back with a smile. He could even imagine what he would have said, something about how he didn't gave them what they wanted and that now everything was fine. There would have been no revolt and they'd still be slave, but at least they'd be together. All of them.
When Erza left, Jellal kept quiet for a day. They went to work and even if they knew what their friend was going through, they worked as if nothing happened.
"I'm going to save her," Jellal whispered before disappearing. His voice was dull, empty, and for once, Simon doubted him, "Take care of the little ones."
Jellal never came back. His friend never came back. Simon didn't know if Erza going to the punishment room, the fact that he failed to protect her, was what killed him or if it was the torture itself. Even today, his last words echoed in his mind. It felt like a farewell. He, who hoped, lost it all. He was ready to die and gave Simon the duty to protect the others. To save her, not them. Not himself. Her.
Perhaps that's why he never tried to find Erza. He never believed Jellal, he could see through his lies. Erza was no traitor. But somehow, banishing her was a way to protect her. She wasn't imprisonned here with an illusion of free will. She joined a guild and made friends. She was free.
The ones who never got saved were them. When Erza came back, they were all relieved, as they thought that their friends got killed. Her body was scarred and her eye was missing but that was it. And then, everything went so fast. He was here, happy to see her alive, then Sho started to cry and finally a revolt started. The revolt lasted a week or so.
The first night was strange, a silent agreement appeared where no one fought. The guards were probably focusing on a plan to stop everything, since they lost tons of people. And so, the slaves defended their new territory. Erza wanted to go on but Grandpa Rob told her to rest, even if it was just for an hour. Sho cried again, but with no sound this time. When Rob told Erza that it's been a week since Jellal's derparture, she looked surprised. She didn't know how long it had been. Erza described a dark room with no light and no one else. And the punishement room, where candles where the only source of light. She had no way to guess the time. All she knew was that after Jellal's arrival, she didn't go to the punishment room anymore. They beat her in the dark endlessly, bandaged her and took care of her eye before taking her back. She probably was unconscious at some point, she said. She couldn't hear anything else apart from her whimpers. They weren't laughing anymore, she said, they were furious. The silence was the worst. "It felt like death, I thought I wad dead. I didn't hear Jellal since last time..."
When Simon woke up after the revolt, Erza disappeared too. Their last discussion was about her crush on Jellal and he found it ridiculous. Milliana was crying and explained to him how Rob died, how Erza used magic and went crazy, how she destroyed the ships and left them here. How Jellal came back, saved them, and was going to rule the island with the adults.
"He said that freedom doesn't exist in this world. Building the Tower is our only hope to reach Heaven and join a better world, where our dreams can come true! He said that in this world, everything is going to be possible!" A broken smile. "I'll even be able to talk to cats!!"
"Heaven...? Do... you know what Heaven is, Millia?..." Simon asked, his voice trembling. His eye hurt and nothing seemed fine. What the hell was going on?!
"Nope! But Jellal–"
"That's where the dead go, Millia! If you want to reach Heaven, you have to die!"
Her face fell. She started to scream loudly. "Liar, liar!" she cried until a woman came and tried to calm her. She glared at him while wipping the kid's tears. And at this moment, Simon understood that nothing would be the same.
"She was in love with Altair. It's only humane, Jellal. To do anything for the one you love."
The man laughed and looked at him. His eyes lost their sparks. The person facing him was a dead man.
"She betrayed her father," he said angrily, "She betrayed the one who would've done anything for her. His love for her was unconditional."
"We aren't talking about the legend anymore, are we, Jellal?"
His captor went on, ignoring him. "And what did she do for Altair anyway? Tell me, Simon! She cried and cried, that's it. She never tried to reach him. What about that? You call this love?"
"Maybe she thought that if she disobeyed her father, he'd hurt him."
Jellal looked at him for a moment. He wasn't smiling anymore, he was even frowning. And the funny part was that Simon wasn't scared of him.
"What about that, Jellal? Does the legend explain how her father threathened her?"
"Shut up, Simon. You don't know anything."
"I know enough."
Jellal stood, hands in his pockets, and started to walk. He couldn't care less about the edge, about how gravity could take his life. He knew how to fly anyway.
"You changed a lot, Simon. I thought the mission would make you happy. Happier. You look sad all the time and I don't like that. Erza is coming back in a week, I thought it would appease you."
Simon felt the bile at the back of his throat. Coming back was a funny way to put it, since she was going to die.
"When Zeref will be here, we'll reach Heaven. You'll live in the world you dream of. You'll be able to see your sister again."
"Isn't my sister dead?" he gritted his teeth.
The man turned to him with a sly smile. "Didn't Ultear tell you?"
She did. It was the only time he ever met their architect. It surprised him to see such a pretty woman, rather young, to be the one helping Jellal with the building. She was the total opposite of the men from the cult. Ultear was her name, Jellal introduced her to him and only him. The others were still working on the other side of the island. She had the same smile Jellal had after coming back from the punishment room and it sent shivers down his spine. He knew only two things about her : she was a fanatic, and she was older than them.
But Simon decided to leave. A headache was his excuse and Jellal told him to rest. He felt his gaze on his back as he walked away. In the corridors, she joined him for some reasons. She made him uncomfortable, her presence was weird, too close to Jellal's. It felt the same.
"I don't think I'll come back. So it is farewell," she explained.
"Goodbye, then," is what he answered. He didn't want to talk to her.
"I am glad such a pretty young man is on the same page as me." He didn't know if she was referencing to Jellal or him, but since his face was disfigured, it was probably the other.
"He's passionate about the whole thing."
He heard her chuckle. "You got it wrong, I meant you. Jellal told me about you. You seem like a good person. But apparently you act strangely and he's rather worried." It surprised him. Jellal saying good things about him seemed out of character, he was an hypocrite now, or so he thought. "It pains me but you see, he has some... issues. With abandonment, I mean."
"You're talking about him like he's your inferior. I have to warn you, Ultear, Jellal is someone you shouldn't betray."
"You're a clever boy, that's what I wanted to tell you." Her smile was cold, condescending and obviously fake. "You put ideas in his head, how he's not the same and how he's on the wrong path. He's not listening but he's still... doubting, from time to time."
Simon froze.
"Too soon, Simon. It's been two years since Erza. It would be a shame if you betrayed him and he had to... do what is needed."
"He won't."
She sighed with a smirk. "How cute you are. Then if his silent threats aren't enough, I'll make it clearer. He has Erza. I have Kagura."
He stared at her wide-eyed as his breathing stopped. She was dead serious and for once he felt like he used to, scared, terrified even.
"Wh– What do you mean by...?"
Her smile grew and her eyes focused on his. She was pleased, he knew. It was the reaction she wanted.
"Just do what you have to do and stay where you belong, Simon Mikazuchi."
Jellal was insane. So was Ultear and the others who followed him. The older slaves tortured the remaining guards until they died, laughing like it was the funniest thing on Earth. Jellal never laughed outloud in the torture room, he just stared and smiled calmly. And to be fair, it was scarier this way. His favorite thing to do was to stab the eyes. They'd scream and his face would stay unfazed, cold. Dead. Jellal was dead. And as the other slaves laughed, as Simon puked, Jellal would look at him, his hands covered in blood and say "I'm avenging you."
Simon joined the play, because Jellal told him to. And he couldn't erase the face of the cultist, crying and begging for everything to stop, from his mind. He enjoyed it only once. And it still haunted him to this day.
And even after all of that, here he was, on the top of the world. The stars were shining behind Jellal but Simon found it gruesome. Such a wonderful view, such a wonderful world wasted. Their life was a waste, and when Zeref will come, they'll die. They were standing on their own grave.
"Wherever you're taking us, leave Kagura out of it."
"The world will change. She'll join you by herself. Our dream is being achieved. A few days, and everything will be over."
"Interesting choice of word. Over." He couldn't take it anymore. "You know what, Jellal? Everyone is right. You shine. You always did, you shine so brightly." He stood, clenching his jaw. "But just like most of the stars, you're already dead. That's what you are, a corpse. You shine because of who you were but today you are nothing."
He looked unsurprised but Simon saw it, just for a second, this final light, the last flame in his eyes disappearing.
"What are trying to say," it wasn't a question. Just another order. So Simon said nothing. "What do you mean, Simon." His voice rose.
"Why did you ask me to join you tonight. You knew no one else would come."
"I wanted to show my friend the stars, as promised."
"You're too late, Jellal."
"Are you betraying me?"
"I would never."
"You are."
He felt the wind on his face. It was cold. Everything was so cold on this island.
"Then kill me," he spat, "Do what is needed."
And then time stopped. He couldn't hear anything else. He saw the man in front of him, unmoving, think. He didn't know how to feel about it. It meant that he was doubting, but at same time, it meant that it was a possibility.
After a while, Jellal looked up at the stars. And said nothing, did nothing. He stayed here contemplating the vastness of the universe. Simon waited for an answer, for something to happen. But nothing came.
He didn't know what went wrong. He wondered if things could have been different. Perhaps he shouldn't have let go of Kagura's hand as he got pushed by a screaming crowd. Maybe he shouldn't have accepted Jellal's help when they arrived. Probably he shouldn't have kept quiet all those years and tried to warn the others. Surely he should have killed him, back then, when he was still recovering from his wounds. Simon made many mistakes in his life and was no innocent martyr. He was an accomplice who never stopped the beast. Because he still hoped that things could change.
But as he lied on the floor, Erza crying over his dying body, he smiled. If the ending light was her, it was okay to go he thought. Maybe he was destined to die after all. Jellal was the eagle and he was the herdsman. Aquila and Altair. His friend died years ago, alone in a dark cell, and Simon's cowardice sentenced him to death. A waste, he knew. But now all he could do was thank the God who let him see Erza one last time, before darkness took him forever.
AN:  Well, first thanks a lot for reading this. I feel like not a lot of people will take the time to do so, as it isn't really what attract people the most. Jellal and Simon are dear to me and their relationship seems so important. Simon's character is a key-element of Jellal's arc yet I don't see the fandom giving it justice. Since I already wrote a oneshot on Jellal where his grief for is friend was pictured, I decided to write this one in Simon's point of view. I hope you liked it! Good day to you. :)
