Tagged by: @faith-orise @yeahthatswhatimtolkienabout Thank you <3
rules: spell your url with song titles and tag as many people as there are letters
Tagging: @jackofacetrades @knightgoldy @teaerrors @lololunacy @justabackroundcharacter @johnnycorkscrew And anyone who wants to do it :] No pressure!
My taste is all over the place, but I tried to make this somewhat cohesive (in themes, if not sound)?
The playlist:
Daffodil – Florence + The Machine (Dance Fever) I, Carrion (Icarian) – Hozier (Unreal Unearth) The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace – The Amazing Devil (Ruin) Sacred The Thread – Greta van Fleet (Starcatcher) Peace Frog – The Doors (Morrison Hotel) IN NOME DEL PADRE – Måneskin (Teatro d'ira) Red Right Hand – Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Let Love In) ADORO BOLOS – Conan Osiris New Perspective – Noah Kahan (Stick Season) Dead of Night – Orville Peck (Pony) O Namorico do André – Fado Bicha
This is too much fun not to continue with honorable mentions...
Dreamland – Glass Animals In The Lap Of The Gods – Queen (Sheer Heart Attack) Sweet Transvestite – Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) Sisyphus – Andrew Bird (My Finest Work Yet) Purple Haze – The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Are You Experienced) Icarus – Bastille (Bad Blood) Raboita Sta. Catarina – Dino d'Santiago (Mundu Nôbu) AmarElo – Emicida, Majur, Pabllo Vittar NAFÉ – Branko, ÉLLÀH (OBG) Dionysus – BTS (MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA) Шум – Go_A
I promise I know how to spell; there was a shortage of good Os.

2001 Copenhagen - Number 17 - Patrícia Colaço & Duo Demo - "Choro no fado"
youtube
This feels like another one of those lost opportunities. A proper fado that won its heat in Festival da Canção (50 songs this year!), then finished second in the final by only five points. This was in a year during which RTP took the Festival out and around Portugal, holding each heat in a different city and having a celebration of traditional Portuguese music in every location. Unfortunately the final was not broadcast live for the first time in history owing to the national tragedy surrounding the collapse of the bridge in the Entre-os-Rios disaster. There was no televote. It's not known which jury voted for which song or how this managed not to win.
Choro no fado (Crying in Fado) is another song to which I do not have the lyrics, in this case a terrible shame as this is one of those songs that really brings a national musical culture and endeavours to present it to the whole of Europe. It's a delicate song of loss and sadness. For what I'm unsure, but given this is fado, its possibly more about the feeling of passing and melancholy than it is about the loss itself. It is beautiful, delicate, and sung and performed wonderfully.
This is the only year that either Patrícia Colaço or any of the members of Duo Demo performed at FdC, and reading an interview with Zé Manuel Martins, one of them members of Duo Date, it's clear they felt that the controversy surrounding the live broadcast of the final affect the outcome. It's also clear what he felt about the song that won...
Since this final, Patrícia and the members have continued performing at traditional music festivals, touring and organising performances of fado all over Portugal, Europe and the wider lusophone world

I would love to travel to Portugal and listen to real Fado music. It sounds like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. And with so much emotions. I just love it.
