A group of journalists held a public appeal yesterday for an end to Israel’s siege of the northern Gaza Strip, where practically no food aid has entered since October 2023. People in the north are living and dying in famine due to the complete blockade by the IOF.
To make matters worse, most mainstream media outlets are ignoring the plight of north Gaza, as the journalists and other people remaining in the north are predominantly Arabic-speaking. The north of Gaza is starving in silence.
Instagram user faridaek has been kind enough to repost the appeal with English subtitles added. This is a significant undertaking that we greatly appreciate, and we ask everyone with an Instagram account to share the video.
The journalist speaking is Islam Bader. He and his colleagues are making this appeal on behalf of the people of northern Gaza. The journalists present include Abed Alqadr Sabbah, Mahmoud Al-Awadia, Momin Abu Owda, Mahmoud Sabbah, Mahmoud El-Shareef, Anas Al-Sharif, Islam Bader, Mohammed Ahmed, and Fadi Al-Whidi, among others. The subtitles read
From the north of the Gaza Strip, we, as journalists still stationed here in the north stand today driven by our ethical responsibility and national duty as a voice for all those who remain steadfast in Gaza and its north who are being subjected to a policy of extermination and a policy of starvation which is no less than extermination. The markets have been emptied of all essentials, and there is no flour available except in rare instances. The occupation does not allow aid to enter, maintaining its obstinate siege against our people and our families. We are of this people, and today we speak for Palestinians, for the besieged and for those denied life’s essentials. The most basic necessities have now become extremely rare in Gaza.
Therefore, we issue this call as a final warning, about a severe famine that is unprecedented on a global scale and impacting all facets of life, particularly children, individuals with chronic conditions and society’s most vulnerable groups. We hold the Israeli occupation and the international community especially the United States responsible for this starvation because it is happening in front of the eyes and ears of the entire world without any concrete action [on the ground] to stop it. The occupation’s claims of aid delivery are deceptive and unfounded. In reality, nothing has entered the north of the Gaza Strip.
Therefore, this final call, on behalf of all these people, on behalf of our fellow journalists, on behalf of our families and on behalf of Palestinians and the displaced in the north of the Gaza Strip is for the world to uphold its responsibility. North Gaza is starving, and this famine must be stopped.

Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi reports the statement of a man whose son was killed when they went to Rashid Street to receive food aid. He says,
In the martyr's room in the hospital, someone said, "By God, I did not want to take my son Mahmoud and go and wait for aid, but there is nothing in the house to eat. I told him and I to go out and get us a bag of flour to eat to satisfy our hunger, but I went and carried you, martyr. Oh God, my son was martyred, hungry!"

Prayers are needed for journalist Emad Ghaboun, who was seriously injured today when he was attacked by the occupation. Journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Fadi Al-Whidi report from his bedside. They were reporting in Tal Al-Zaatar, Jabaliya when the IOF directly targeted them. Many others in the area were injured or martyred as well. Check reblogs for updates.
WARNING: mildly graphic photos

Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi describes his family’s first suhoor (pre-dawn meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan) during famine:
My dear mother took the medicine and drank water and went to sleep. This is how my mother's suhoor was. As for the rest of the family, our suhoor was a drink of water.

23 December 2023
Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi documents the burial in a mass grave of the dozens of people who were murdered in the streets and left to rot by the IOF in Jabaliya, north Gaza. These people were either burned or decomposed beyond recognition, and could not have been identified by their families even if they had found them, and had to be quickly buried together to prevent further desecration of their bodies and exposure of the population to dangerous bacteria. Journalist Anas Al-Sharif documents this as well.

As far as I know, they are all still alive. From left to right: Fadi Al-Whidi, Hossam Shabat, Mohammed Saber Arab, Mahmoud Abusalama, Mahmoud Al-Sharif (I think), Anas Al-Sharif, Abdullah Obead (no longer in the north), Abood Abusalama (I think), Mahmoud Sabbah (I think), Momin Abu Owda, Mohammed Ahmed, Mahmoud Al-Awadia, Hamza Hammad (seriously injured but still alive as far as I know), unknown, Ahmed Hamdan (I think).
They all have Instagram accounts, which I will link soon. In the mean time, I will put the known individuals’ names in the tags so you can search our posts and find links to their accounts. Tomorrow or the day after I will edit this post and add direct links.
Any corrections or additions are welcome

28 December 2023
Journalists Mahmoud Abusalama, Anas Al-Sharif, Fadi Al-Whidi, and Momin Abuowda all report on the bombing of a residential block in Beit Lahiya. The attack destroyed several homes in which dozens of people were seeking shelter. As of about 8 hours ago, about 3 dozen people have been confirmed martyred. Many more are trapped under rubble. Rescue teams are scrambling to save them, but there are absolutely no resources available to them any longer, they have to dig through literal tons of concrete and metal by hand. Due to this, many more are expected to die while trapped under rubble. This is the case with every IOF bombardment of Gaza, especially in the north. In this attack, journalist Ahmed Maher Kheir El-Din and several members of his family were killed and trapped under the rubble of their family home.

Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi documents his arrival shortly after the massacre of the Khalil family in Jabaliya, northern Gaza. The damage is absolutely massive, with the entire family home destroyed, as well as severe damage to nearby homes and structures. Warning: some of the footage is upsetting but not particularly graphic.

It is 8 am Gaza time and 1 am US Eastern time. As of now, from what we are seeing from multiple people on the ground in the north, there has been a *partial* withdrawal of IOF troops. It is NOT a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and it is NOT a full withdrawal from north Gaza.
Many areas of northwest Gaza report withdrawals, but other parts of north Gaza are still besieged by IOF ground troops. Momin Abu Owda reported that Al-Tawam Junction in the northwest is now free of IOF troops for the first time since the ground invasion began (link below). However, Shukri Filfil reported that Al-Rimal in Gaza City, which is in the southern portion of north Gaza, is still under attack by IOF troops. Eshak Daour reported IOF firing gas bombs at him and a group of civilians in Beit Lahiya, which is more in the central area of north Gaza. Hossam Azam reported ground clashes very near to his location, although his exact location is not yet clear. Ahmed Kouta reported that although the ground troops pulled out of northwest Gaza, they have moved on to other parts of north Gaza, such as the central and southern regions (link below). All but the first and the latter appeared on Instagram Stories and as such there is no permanent working link, so message us for screenshots if desired. Mahmoud Ziad also documented the continued incursion of IOF personnel and machinery around Al-Shifa Hospital in the southwestern region of north Gaza, which Ismail Al-Ghoul reported as well.
The partial withdrawal is being documented by Momin Abu Owda, Dr. Tamer Al-Najjar, Mahmoud Sabbah, Hassan Hamad, Mahmoud Al-Awadia, Mahmoud Abusalama, Abood Abusalama, Mahmoud Shalha, Karam Naji, Ahmed Kouta, Anas Al-Sharif, Ismail Al-Ghoul, Fadi Al-Whidi, and more will be added as we find them.

20 December 2023
Journalist Ismail Al-Ghoul reports that the IOF have bulldozed and razed Sheikh Shaaban cemetery, destroying graves and leaving the desecrated bodies to rot. Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi has documented this practice as well at another site.
The purpose of this act is likely three-fold: to terrorize and dishearten the population, to erase traces that Palestinians ever had a society in Gaza, and to expose the people of north Gaza to disease vectors from decaying corpses. Dr. Tamer Al-Najjar has previously documented that the amount of unburied bodies, combined with the collapse of waste and water systems, as well as the onset of flood from heavy rain, pose a significant risk to public health.
I will not post Ismail Al-Ghoul’s video here because parts of it are graphic and disturbing. However, I will post a link to it here for anyone who wants to verify.

Morning update from journalist Fadi Al-Whidi:
Not good morning
It is good as long as we sleep and wake up hungry with nothing to eat
We want aid to enter the northern Gaza Strip and not be dipped in the blood of people. Those who go to get aid and risk themselves may be injured or martyred while receiving aid before the disaster occurs in our north

Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi documents how the people of Jabaliya perform their Eid-al-Fitr prayers in the cold, heavy rain. Nearly every mosque in north Gaza has been destroyed, especially in Jabaliya. Despite this, people continue to pray and worship as a community, standing in the open and exposed to the elements in order to worship and share in the sacred occasion as a group.
