5 Reasons to Hire Professionals for Commercial Demolition
Commercial demolition in Melbourne involves tearing down commercial structures such as buildings, factories, warehouses, and other properties. Professionals recommend it to make way for new construction, renovations, or to remove unsafe structures. While some business owners may consider performing demolition on their own, it is essential to consider the risks and benefits of hiring professionals. This blog post will explore why hiring professionals for commercial demolition is crucial. But before getting into the reasons, let's talk about -
What are Commercial Demolition Services?
Commercial demolition is dismantling or demolishing a commercial building or property. This service is required when a building has outlived its usefulness, is beyond repair or needs a new structure. Commercial demolition service involves the removal of the building and all associated designs and materials, including concrete, steel, wood, and glass.
Industrial demolition in Melbourne is a complicated operation that needs careful preparation and execution. The process involves several stages, including the planning and preparation phase, the demolition phase, and the cleanup and disposal phase. Each step of the process is critical to ensuring the successful completion of the project.
The demolition phase is the actual dismantling of the building. Depending on the size of the structure, different methods may be used, such as implosion, wrecking ball, or manual dismantling. Demolition contractors use specialised equipment and techniques to safely and efficiently demolish the building. They work carefully to avoid damage to surrounding structures, utility lines, and other infrastructure. Once the building gets dismantled, the debris is loaded onto trucks and removed from the site.
Advantages of Hiring Professionals
1. Safety
Safety is the most crucial factor to consider regarding commercial demolition. Commercial demolition in Melbourne is a dangerous task that requires proper training and experience to execute safely. Professionals have the necessary skills and equipment to complete the job without risking the safety of those involved or the surrounding properties.
Professional demolition contractors have the appropriate safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and respiratory protection. They also use specialised equipment such as cranes, excavators, bulldozers, and backhoes, all requiring specialised training to operate safely. Professionals are trained to handle hazardous materials, such as asbestos and lead, commonly found in older commercial structures.
2. Cost-Effective
Hiring a professional industrial demolition in Melbourne can be cost-effective in the long run. Demolition requires specialised equipment and skilled labour, which can be costly to acquire and maintain. A professional demolition company already has the necessary tools and equipment, saving you from investing in expensive machinery or renting equipment.
Additionally, professionals have the experience and knowledge to complete the job quickly, lessening the time spent on demolition. It saves money on labour costs and the costs associated with potential delays or mistakes that can arise from inexperienced workers.
3. Permits and Regulations
Commercial demolition in Melbourne require permits and must comply with local, state, and federal regulations. By hiring experts, you can be confident that the relevant licences are secured and that the law is upheld. Professional contractors are familiar with the permitting process and can navigate it smoothly, ensuring that your demolition project is legal and compliant with all regulations.
In contrast, attempting to perform the demolition without the necessary permits and compliance can result in costly fines and legal issues. Moreover, hiring a professional contractor ensures the demolition is completed safely, with all hazardous materials properly disposed of following regulations.
4. Experience
Experience is vital when it comes to demolition. Professional contractors have the expertise and knowledge to complete the job safely and efficiently. They have the experience to assess the site and the structure to determine the best approach for the demolition. They can advise completing the demolition without damaging the surrounding properties or infrastructure.
Expert commercial demolition professionals in Melbourne also have the necessary experience to handle unexpected situations that may arise during the demolition process. They can adapt to changing conditions and find solutions to any problems. On the other hand, inexperienced workers may need to gain the knowledge or experience to handle unexpected issues, which can lead to costly mistakes.
5. Proper Waste Disposal
Factory Demolition Melbourne produces a large amount of waste that must get disposed of properly. Professional contractors have the necessary equipment and expertise to dispose of waste materials generated during demolition. They know how to handle all materials safely and dispose of them in compliance with regulations.
Improper disposal of waste materials can result in costly fines and legal issues. Hiring a professional demolition company ensures that all waste is handled correctly and disposed of following rules, lessening the risk of penalties and legal issues.
In conclusion
Hiring professionals for commercial demolition is essential for any business owner or property manager who needs to demolish a building. While trying and save money by undertaking the demolition yourself may be tempting, it's not worth the potential risks to safety, time, and money. Professional demolition contractors have the experience, skills, and equipment necessary to complete the job efficiently and effectively while adhering to all safety regulations and environmental laws. By hiring commercial demolition in Melbourne, you can be confident that your demolition project will be handled with care and precision, leaving you with a clean slate to build something new.

✖ @defectiveprts inquired: 🚑 (but it's buck hiding it. I'll let you decide the context as I mean.... there's So Much to choose from....)
meme | accepting.
"He'll be okay," Fox reassured him, chart in hand. Watching as Eddie was rolled down the corridor. It didn't make his injury any less scary, but thankfully, the piece of scrap metal hadn't nicked any arteries or organs. "He'll be sore for a while, but you guys know all about that." She gave him a smile, but he wasn't looking at her. Not that she was surprised, she knew he loved Eddie. Knew he cared about him like family. Like an extension of himself. Gently, she gave his forearm as squeeze. Noticing how he swayed slightly under her touch. Strange.
"I'll...keep you updated," she added after a moment, looking upon his face. Paler than it normally was. He hadn't said a word. "Firefighter Buckley?" Immediately she was assessing him again. He was limping when he came in, helping to push Eddie into the hospital, but she wrote it off initially as his old injury acting up. He had said he was fine. Had said there was nothing wrong with him. Pale, he looked so pale. Something was wrong.
"Buck? Buck, can you hear me?" The chart in her hands was forgotten, clattering onto the floor as she made a quick circle around him, looking for any signs of blood. Of course, it could be internal. Fox didn't want to think about that. She didn't have time to think about that. Instead, she kept an arm around him as she moved, afraid at any moment he may pass out. "Where is it, where is it," she muttered frantically to herself until she found it. There. A wet spot on his pant leg. Immediately she was cutting it off with a pair of scissors from her pocket, careful not to touch his skin. But his leg, once exposed, wasn't bleeding. Confused, she touched his boot. The blood overflowed, coating her hands, splashing on the ground. Just under the lip of it was another piece of scrap metal, likely the twin to Eddie's. Whether he was hiding it because he hadn't realized it was there or because he thought it was his old injury acting up and didn't want to 'bother them', it didn't matter.
"I need a gurney over here!" Fox called out, trying to stop the bleeding with her hand without pressing on the metal. Her other arm was outstretched, grasping tightly to his jacket front. She would not let him fall, not when it had taken him so long to stand again. "Lean on me, Buck," she instructed. "It's going to be okay, everything is going to be okay, I have you. I'm here--I need that gurney!"

To whom it may concern, my name is Ghadi Al-Bardawil,and i find myself in a strange situation writing this and asking for help.
I'm an engineer and a mother of two kids,my eldest son,Walid,is 4 years old,my youngest son, Yamen is 8 months old,we had a peaceful life and a beautiful house, which we built under the supervision of a famous interior designer in Gaza,
my husband and I were actively pursuing our personal goals and endeavours,we were heavily involved in our works,we had jobs that brought us immense happiness, together we were building future to our kids step by step filled with hope and care.
However, everything changed in the beginning of the war, within days of the tragedy we were forced to flee our home with nothing but the clothes on our backs, my youngest son was a newborn at the time and , we we spent two months in one of the shelters in Khanyounes city in the south of Gaza
,
every night we slept in a big room on the ground along with four strange families next to us, listening to the sounds of explosions, with the shortage of food, drinking water, infant milk and diapers, then on the 22th of November we received advastating news ,our house that's completely destroyed
,in 29th of November we received that the family business, our factory, our main warehouse in Gaza was bombed and completely destroyed too.
After spending two months of the first shelter, suddenly it was surrounded by tanks and we were forced to flee again in a tent in the city of Rafah,
My child, who was not more than 4 months old at the time, could not tolerate living in the tent. It was extremely hot in the morning and extremely cold at night. He suffered from constant fatigue and skin rashes،so we had to displaced a third time, where we rented a small room to our family that was full of rats that grawed our toes every night, the last few months have been full of fear, evacuation and death, not to mention the destruction of our house and business, the loss of hope and the complete demolition of any happy memory we ever had.
Asking for help is not easy at all, and i understand that these are challenging times for everyone, but whatever amount you can contribute will bring us one step closer to provide my family with the security they deserve
Please help us

Palestine Action activists destroyed a 1914 painting of Arthur James Balfour, the colonial administrator and signatory of the Balfour Declaration.
Palestine Action stated, "An activist slashed the homage and sprayed the artwork with red paint, symbolising the bloodshed of the Palestinian people since the Balfour Declaration was issued in 1917. "
"Arthur Balfour, then UK Foreign secretary, issued a declaration which promised to build “a national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine, where the majority of the indigenous population were not Jewish. He gave away the Palestinians homeland — a land that wasn’t his to give away."
"After the Declaration, until 1948, the British burnt down indigenous villages to prepare the way; with this came arbitrary killings, arrests, torture, sexual violence including rape against women and men, the use of human shields and the introduction of home demolitions as collective punishment to repress Palestinian resistance."
"The British were initiating the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, fulfilling the Zionist aim to build their ‘home’ over the top of what were Palestinian communities, towns, villages, farms and ancestral land, rich in heritage, culture and ancient archeological history."
"In the past 154 days of genocide in Gaza, Israel has killed over 30,000 Palestinians, injured over 72,000 and displaced over 1.9million — 80% of the Gaza population."
"Britain’s support for the continued colonisation of Palestine hasn’t wavered since 1917.
"Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms supplier, who use captive Palestinians in Gaza as a human laboratory to develop their weapons, use Britain as a manufacturing outpost. The Israeli weapons maker build weaponry in factories across the country and work closely with the British government.
"Palestine Action vows to continue their direct campaign until Elbit is shut down and British complicity with the colonisation of Palestine ends. "

CANDLE IN THE WIND
An old abandoned candle factory is something you don't get to see very often. Especially one that has been abandoned many years ago, yet still shows no trace of vandalism; only natural decay...
When you see these two 19th century mansions located next to each other, you would not suspect that a gem of industrial heritage is hidden behind the protected rococo facades. Both houses, although empty, still offered some nice corners, but the real surprise lay in the small factory behind them.
The brick building was originally used as a gin distillery, probably in the mid-19th century. However, around the turn of the century it was transformed into a candle factory.
Candles were mainly made for churches and chapels, such as Easter candles. The factory remained active until the mid-1980s and has been frozen in time ever since.
More than 40 years later, the entire building is threatened with demolition to make way for new apartment buildings. However, both houses were included in the inventory of architectural heritage. The permit to demolish all buildings was issued by the city, but was annulled after an appeal procedure before the Council for Permit Disputes. Two years have now passed and there appears to be no further movement in the demolition and construction...

Machine Memories- Day 3: Hoax
Summary:
Sammy defies Wilson’s news. His Lord, the most powerful and influential being in this realm— dead? Impossible.
Rating: G/PG
”Children of the machine, have we not suffered enough? Our Lord has been slain, from the hands of an outsider. Will we suffer this injustice?? Will we bow our heads to a false ruler?? Or will we stand by our Lord? Will we search every corner of this world to find him, if alive-- as I can feel he is?? Heed my words, sheep. The Ink Demon is not dead. He is still with us, waiting to free us from our inky prisons. We must free him! We must usurp this threat to our sanctity! We must free our Lord!”
The Lost Ones gathered in the city streets below Sammy chorused their agreement, holding their weapons and fists high. Axes and pipes held at the ready, his followers were devoted in their cause. And what was their cause? Bring back their savior, the one who will finally put an end to their ink-stained hell— The Ink Demon.
Sammy’s fingers curled tighter around the axe’s hilt. There was no time to dither about. From the moment one of Wilson’s posters had been strewn up in the music department, Sammy knew he had to act. The visceral hatred towards this outsider had come to a head, and Sammy had his followers to back his conviction.
Such faith egged him onwards towards Wilson’s hideout. The man was rumored to hole himself in behind the boarded-up entrance of the Gent Factory.
Peculiar, he couldn’t recall when this location had sprung up. Had it always been here? Merely tucked away and veiled from prying eyes? Or was there something more to it?
Sammy reached the wooden boards and held up a hand for his followers. They obeyed the unspoken gesture— such loyal little sheep they were.
The musician brandished his brass axe with the back of his hand before bringing it down on the boards. It cut through smooth as butter. With a bit more demolition, there was enough room for him and his followers to flood into the next room.
Wilson was right there. Not hiding like he had anticipated, merely standing at the top of the steps with a malignant gleam in his eye. Two mechanical beasts flanked him, their spotlights scouring across him and his group like hungry dogs. Perhaps he had made too much clamor in the street. Not ideal cover for a sneak attack.
Sammy pointed the tip of his axe toward the man. “Blasphemer! What have you done to our lord?” He demanded, his voice carrying across the wide-open ceiling.
Wilson regarded him coolly with that same glint in his eye but refused to speak.
How dare he look down on him like dirt! He was the Lord’s prophet, not a position he took lightly by any means. What he deserved was respect.
Sammy gritted his teeth. “For all the lies and false promises you circulated across this inky hellscape, it is time for you to pay the price, my little sheep. Our Lord is calling for us, even now. Can you hear him? I can still feel his presence. He will come for you.”
Wilson regarded him with an almost pensive expression, like he was only a lab rat for him to study. Then, with a snap of his fingers, the Keeper at his side lunged for Sammy. Rivulets of red raced across the Keeper's chest in a burst of color that had the musician briefly stunned.
In a rush of adrenaline, Sammy just barely managed to bring his axe down atop the Keeper's hand. The mechanical horror screeched, a sound that pierced his eardrums like nails on a chalkboard. It uncurled its other arm-- it had two of them? Sammy was grabbed by the throat and lifted into the air. His axe clattered against the floorboards. The weapon wouldn't be able to aid him anyhow, the Keeper had a grip like iron.
As he kicked and thrashed, his anger came to a full boil. "Heed my words, outsider! You do not know what you've done; Bendy will rise again! Our Lord would not abandon us! So kill me if you must! My words are true!"
Wilson appeared to chuckle at that. His followers watched helplessly; not wanting to risk their own skin for his sake, obviously. No matter. He would be a sacrifice. A sacrifice in the name of his savior.
"Kill you? No," Wilson finally croaked with a wicked sneer. "I have a different plan in mind, my dear Cycle breaker."

Sustainable Demolition: 5 Ways to Minimise Waste and Environmental Impact
Sustainable demolition is an approach to demolition that seeks to minimise the environmental impact of the demolition process by reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting environmentally responsible practices. Sustainable demolition aims to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and conserve resources by reusing materials in future construction projects. By incorporating sustainable practices into the demolition process, contractors can help to create a more environmentally responsible and sustainable construction industry. For a better understanding, let’s look at some sustainable measures that can be incorporated into commercial Demolition in Melbourne.
Salvaging Materials
Salvaging materials is an essential aspect of sustainable demolition, as it helps to reduce waste and conserve resources by reusing materials in future construction projects.
Here are some common materials that can be salvaged from buildings during commercial demolition in Melbourne:
Wood: Salvaged wood can be reused for a variety of purposes, such as flooring, furniture, and decorative elements. Reclaimed wood is often sought after for its unique character and environmental benefits.
Metals: Metals such as steel, copper, and aluminium can be salvaged and recycled for future construction projects or sold for scrap.
Concrete and masonry: Concrete and masonry can be crushed and reused as aggregate in new construction projects or as fill material for foundations.
Glass: Salvaged glass can be reused for new construction projects, such as decorative elements or insulation.
Fixtures and equipment: Items such as light, plumbing, and HVAC can be salvaged and reused in future construction projects.
Salvaging materials requires careful planning and assessment to identify materials that can be salvaged and to ensure that they are removed safely and efficiently. By salvaging materials during demolition, Melbourne’s demolition contractors can help reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainable construction practices.
Deconstruction
Deconstruction is a sustainable demolition technique that involves dismantling a building piece by piece rather than knocking it down. This approach allows for the salvage of more materials and reduces waste, making your commercial demolition in Melbourne an environmentally responsible option.
Deconstruction typically involves the following steps:
Assessment: A careful assessment of the building is conducted to identify materials that can be salvaged and determine the best approach for deconstruction.
Preparation: The building is prepared for deconstruction by removing hazardous materials, disconnecting utilities, and securing the site.
Deconstruction: The building is carefully dismantled piece by piece, with salvageable materials such as wood, metal, and masonry separated and removed for reuse or recycling.
Recycling and reuse: Salvaged materials are transported to storage or processing facilities to be recycled or reused in future construction projects.
Deconstruction is more labour-intensive than traditional demolition, but it has several environmental benefits. By salvaging more materials, deconstruction reduces waste and conserves resources. It also helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by burning commercial demolition in Melbourne and reducing the need for manufacturing new materials.
Proper Waste Management
Implementing proper waste management practices can lead to sustainable demolition and also help save costs by reducing waste disposal fees, increasing the value of salvaged materials, and reducing the need for new materials.
Here’s how proper waste management can help promote sustainable commercial demolition in Melbourne:
Minimises Waste: Proper waste management helps minimise the waste generated during demolition. By reducing waste, fewer materials end up in landfills, reducing the environmental impact of demolition.
Promotes Resource Recovery: Salvaging and recycling materials during demolition helps to recover valuable resources that can be reused in the new construction project. This reduces the need for virgin materials, conserves natural resources, and promotes sustainable construction practices.
Complies with Regulations: Proper waste management practices help the demolition contractors in Melbourne to comply with local regulations on waste disposal, ensuring that waste is disposed of safely and legally. This helps prevent environmental contamination and health risks associated with improper waste disposal.
Dust Suppression
Dust suppression is a crucial aspect of sustainable demolition practices as it helps to minimise the environmental impact of dust generated during the demolition process. Dust can harm the environment and human health, causing respiratory problems, eye irritation, and other health issues.
Here are some dust suppression techniques that your demolition contractors can use in Melbourne during sustainable demolition:
Water Spraying: Water spraying is the most common dust suppression technique used during demolition. It involves using water sprays to wet the demolition site and prevent dust from being airborne. Water spraying can be done using hoses, sprinklers, or misting systems.
Chemical Dust Suppressants: Chemical dust suppressants can bind dust particles together and prevent them from becoming airborne. These suppressants are often used in situations where water spraying is not effective.
Enclosures: Enclosing the demolition site can help to prevent dust from spreading to surrounding areas. Enclosures can be made using plastic sheeting or netting.
Vacuum Systems: Vacuum systems can be used to suck up dust particles as they are generated during demolition. These systems are particularly useful in confined spaces where dust suppression techniques such as water spraying are not feasible.
Wind Barriers: Wind barriers can block wind and prevent dust from being carried away from the demolition site. Wind barriers can be made using plywood or plastic sheeting.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE, such as respirators and safety glasses, can protect workers from inhaling dust particles during demolition.
By implementing these dust suppression techniques during sustainable demolition, the environmental impact of dust can be minimised, and human health risks can be reduced.
To Sum Up:
Sustainable demolition can go a long way in protecting the environment against the negative repercussions of demolition. Every sustainable demolition contractor in Melbourne will be sure to adopt these tactics and proceed in an environmentally responsible manner. So, if you have any upcoming commercial demolition in Melbourne, connect with Merhi Group and use all the pros of sustainable demolition in your favour.

Koyaanisquatsi is a Hopi word meaning "life out of balance." This movie is a documentary that many describe as unnerving.
There's no dialogue or voiceover of any kind. Scenes depict many parts of industrialized society - cities, highways, factories, malls. Closeups of machinery. Abandoned apartments. Demolitions. Nothing about the photography or the editing is especially frantic or stressful - in fact, the cinematography throughout the movie is rather beautiful, even serene. The unsettling strangeness of the scenes are enhanced by much of the footage being played in reverse, which serves to emphasize how backwards it all really is. But the images are mainly allowed to speak plainly for themselves, enhanced by some nice ominous music.
The movie ends with peaceful views of deserts, and one lingering shot of the infamous Hopi painting of a mysterious object surrounded by obscure black humanoid figures, which is really one of the most beautifully unsettling paintings ever created. For real, Dore and Goya have nothing on this:
I suppose some may find this movie disturbing. I think we live in a very disturbing reality.

Hello Tumblr, I am back with more headcanons!!1!1!
Beware of Hermitshipping in this one (it's not the focus but it's mentioned)
Bdubs. He doesn't have a full legal name, he's just Bdubs. On paperwork, he will sometimes put "Bee Double", but it's no more than a formality. It's pretty well-known that "Bdubs" is technically a nickname, but whenever someone tries to ask okay, but what's your real name?, he just keeps talking like they never said anything. Most people brush this off, but anyone who is highly-attuned to and proficient in magic will realize that, although Bdubs seems like an open book, they don't actually know that much about him.
Hybrid-wise, Bdubs is a fae creature of unspecified origin, although he's most akin to that of a nymph (specifically a dryad) or a gnome (this isn't just a short joke, it's a short joke with a purpose). He is closely connected to the earth, and can manipulate anything that comes from the earth, though he doesn't do it often. He is also able to make illusions and move at higher speeds than should be possible, which makes it very easy for him to confuse and disorient people, especially those who don't know him.
Bdubs is a very devoted and hard-working person, and he is proud to boast that he works an impressive seven jobs. These include: owning and operating a coffee shop called "The Muhd Cafe" (or simply "Muhd"), Construction Supervisor & General Contractor, owning and operating a headshot shop (he does both pictures and paintings), owning and operating a plant nursery, owning a demolition company, part-time Scarland employee, and the esteemed Royal Advisor/Jester/Butler etc. Bdubs technically works part-time for all of these businesses, and co-owns most of them with other people. He has to keep busy to not become restless, and it shows.
Some details for each buisness:
Muhd - Co-owner: Etho Slab. Affectionately nicknamed "Wet Dirt" by Etho and most employees. Bdubs hates this nickname. Bdubs uses his hybrid abilities to make coffee faster than any gunslinger in the Wild West, and frequently leaves his customers disoriented. Because of this -- and despite his protests --, he has been banned from working the counter unless there's a rush. This is Bdubs' "favorite" job (he swears he doesn't have a favorite, but he comes here most frequently), and he lives in an apartment above the coffee shop.
Bdubs' Head Shop - Sole owner: Bdubs. Sourced from a van with all of his art and photography supplies, and only appears on occasion. Bdubs has a glowing reputation, and any time the shop appears in the city, he gets heavy foot traffic.
Moss O Menos - Plant nursery located near Muhd. Bdubs is technically the sole owner, but the store's manager, Gemini Tay, runs the place in his absence and is basically a co-owner at this point.
Boomer's Demolition - Co-owners: Tango Tek and Impulse S-V. Their office is located in a tnt factory, so they typically do business over the phone or through emails. They have a terrible reputation and don't get many customers, so all three have other jobs.

Why Israel Lies
Its use of the kinds of big lies favored by totalitarian regimes is aimed at feeding two reactions: racism among its supporters and terror among its victims in Gaza.
All governments lie, as I.F. Stone pointed out, including Israel and Hamas. But Israel engages in the kinds of jaw-dropping lies that characterize despotic and totalitarian regimes. It does not deform the truth; it inverts it. It routinely paints a picture for the outside world that is diametrically opposed to reality. And all of us reporters who have covered the occupied territories have run into Israel’s Alice-in-Wonderland narratives, which we dutifully insert into our stories — required under the rules of American journalism — although we know they are untrue.
I saw small boys baited and killed by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza refugee camp of Khan Younis. The soldiers swore at the boys in Arabic over the loudspeakers of their armored jeep. The boys, about 10 years old, then threw stones at an Israeli vehicle and the soldiers opened fire, killing some, wounding others. I was present more than once as Israeli troops drew out and shot Palestinian children in this way. Such incidents, in the Israeli lexicon, become children caught in crossfire. I was in Gaza when F-16 attack jets dropped 1,000-pound iron fragmentation bombs on overcrowded hovels in Gaza City. I saw the corpses of the victims, including children. This became a surgical strike on a bomb-making factory. I have watched Israel demolish homes and entire apartment blocks to create wide buffer zones between the Palestinians and the Israeli troops that ring Gaza. I have interviewed the destitute and homeless families, some camped out in crude shelters erected in the rubble. The destruction becomes the demolition of the homes of terrorists. I have stood in the remains of schools — Israel struck two United Nations schools in the last six days, causing at least 10 fatalities at one in Rafah on Sunday and at least 19 at one in the Jebaliya refugee camp Wednesday — as well as medical clinics and mosques. I have heard Israel claim that errant rockets or mortar fire from the Palestinians caused these and other deaths, or that the attacked spots were being used as arms depots or launching sites. I, along with every other reporter I know who has worked in Gaza, have never seen any evidence that Hamas uses civilians as “human shields.”
There is a perverted logic to Israel’s repeated use of the Big Lie — Große Lüge — the lie favored by tyrants from Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin to Saddam Hussein. The Big Lie feeds the two reactions Israel seeks to elicit — racism among its supporters and terror among its victims.
By painting a picture of an army that never attacks civilians, that indeed goes out of its way to protect them, the Big Lie says Israelis are civilized and humane, and their Palestinian opponents are inhuman monsters. The Big Lie serves the idea that the slaughter in Gaza is a clash of civilizations, a war between democracy, decency and honor on one side and Islamic barbarism on the other. And in the uncommon cases when news of atrocities penetrates to the wider public, Israel blames the destruction and casualties on Hamas.
George Orwell in his novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four” called this form of propaganda doublethink. Doublethink uses “logic against logic” and “repudiate[s] morality while laying claim to it.” The Big Lie does not allow for the nuances and contradictions that can plague conscience. It is a state-orchestrated response to the dilemma of cognitive dissonance. The Big Lie permits no gray zones. The world is black and white, good and evil, righteous and unrighteous. The Big Lie allows believers to take comfort — a comfort they are desperately seeking — in their own moral superiority at the very moment they have abrogated all morality.
The Big Lie, as the father of American public relations, Edward Bernays, wrote, is limited only by the propagandist’s capacity to fathom and harness the undercurrents of individual and mass psychology. And since most supporters of Israel do not have a desire to know the truth, a truth that would force them to examine their own racism and self-delusions about Zionist and Western moral superiority, like packs of famished dogs they lap up the lies fed to them by the Israeli government. The Big Lie always finds fertile soil in what Bernays called the “logic-proof compartment of dogmatic adherence.” All effective propaganda, Bernays wrote, targets and builds upon these irrational “psychological habits.”
This is the world Franz Kafka envisioned, a world where the irrational becomes rational. It is one where, as Gustave Le Bon noted in “The Crowd: A Study of the Public Mind,” those who supply the masses with the illusions they crave become their master, and “whoever attempts to destroy their illusions is always their victim.” This irrationality explains why the reaction of Israeli supporters to those who have the courage to speak the truth — Uri Avnery, Max Blumenthal, Noam Chomsky, Jonathan Cook, Norman Finkelstein, Amira Hass, Gideon Levy, Ilan Pappé, Henry Siegman and Philip Weiss — is so rabid. That so many of these voices are Jewish, and therefore have more credibility than non-Jews who are among Israel’s cheerleaders, only ratchets up the level of hate. But the Big Lie is also consciously designed to send a chilling message to Gaza’s Palestinians, who have lost large numbers of their dwellings, clinics, mosques, and power, water and sewage facilities, along with schools and hospitals, who have suffered some 1,650 deaths since this assault began — most of the victims women and children — and who have seen 400,000 people displaced from their homes. The Big Lie makes it clear to the Palestinians that Israel will continue to wage a campaign of state terror and will never admit its atrocities or its intentions. The vast disparity between what Israel says and what Israel does tells the Palestinians that there is no hope. Israel will do and say whatever it wants. International law, like the truth, will always be irrelevant. There will never, the Palestinians understand from the Big Lie, be an acknowledgement of reality by the Israeli leadership.
The Israel Defense Forces website is replete with this black propaganda. “Hamas exploits the IDF’s sensitivity towards protecting civilian structures, particularly holy sites, by hiding command centers, weapons caches and tunnel entrances in mosques,” the IDF site reads. “In Hamas’ world, hospitals are command centers, ambulances are transport vehicles, and medics are human shields,” the site insists.
“… [Israeli] officers are tasked with an enormous responsibility: to protect Palestinian civilians on the ground, no matter how difficult that may be,” the site assures its viewers. And the IDF site provides this quote from a drone operator identified as Lt. Or. “I have personally seen rockets fired at Israel from hospitals and schools, but we couldn’t strike back because of civilians nearby. In one instance, we acquired a target but we saw that there were children in the area. We waited around, and when they didn’t leave we were forced to abort a strike on an important target.”
Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, in a Big Lie of his own, said last month at a conference of Christians United for Israel that the Israeli army should be given the “Nobel Peace Prize … a Nobel Peace Prize for fighting with unimaginable restraint.”
The Big Lie destroys any possibility of history and therefore any hope for a dialogue between antagonistic parties that can be grounded in truth and reality. While, as Hannah Arendt pointed out, the ancient and modern sophists sought to win an argument at the expense of the truth, those who wield the Big Lie “want a more lasting victory at the expense of reality.” The old sophists, she said, “destroyed the dignity of human thought.” Those who resort to the Big Lie “destroy the dignity of human action.” The result, Arendt warned, is that “history itself is destroyed, and its comprehensibility.” And when facts no longer matter, when there is no shared history grounded in the truth, when people foolishly believe their own lies, there can be no useful exchange of information. The Big Lie, used like a bludgeon by Israel, as perhaps it is designed to be, ultimately reduces all problems in the world to the brutish language of violence. And when oppressed people are addressed only through violence they will answer only through violence.

This whole story is fuckin bananas.
Apparently she came to hate the germans after witnessing the nazis hit her grandmother while they were “confiscating” cattle. This led to her joining a resistance movement called the Young Avengers, and participating in demolitions assisted sabotage actions at a pump, a local power plant and a brick factory under nazi control. WHEN SHE WAS A FUCKING TEENAGER.
THEN she poisoned a nazi garrison of 100+ soldiers in Obol, where she had gotten in as a kitchen aide.
And the icing?
The wikipedia article says there are alternative versions of her attempted escape upon capture. Here are the two listed there, which I would assume are the prevailing theories.
“One is that during interrogation in the village of Goriany, she took the investigator's pistol off the table, then shot and killed him. When two German soldiers entered after hearing the gunshots, she shot them as well. She then attempted to escape the compound and ran into the woods, where she was caught near the banks of a river.
Another version is that the Gestapo interrogator, in a fit of rage, threw his pistol to the table after threatening to shoot her. Taking the pistol, Portnova shot him. Escaping through the door, she shot a guard in the corridor, then another in the courtyard. After the pistol misfired when Portnova attempted to shoot a guard blocking her access to the street, she was captured.”
The first one sounds more plausible.
BUT JFC, THE SECOND ONE.
If THAT one’s true, SHE ALMOST MADE IT OUT, and undoubtedly would have gone on to commit even more unreal acts of badassery.
Zinaida was a fuckin beast.
