imagine being a Korean person awake at like one in the morning trying to accept that the president of South Korea actually just tried to go full dictatorship by way of an emergency martial law because he was basically having a political temper tantrum and every agency and corporation in the country is all hands on deck, code red mode on everything and the military is being deployed and then the assembly revokes the martial law and then the president is like lol nevermind and now you have to get ready to work at your shitty job on a Wednesday

"Never fall into despair. Never fall to cynicism. There is something you must do. Don't look away. In today's society all capital pressures people to become stupid. Cynicism robs people of their will. Never fall into despair. Always have hope. I have high hopes for your generation. If you won't fight, then I will rise and fight, even if I am already dead and underground. I hope that won't have to happen. I wish, with all my heart, you and the generation after you will prosper." - South Korean novelist Cho Se-hui, 2008

Yall might not find a 52 year old goth woman and her 600+ year old trickster demon husband who worships the ground she walks on the pinnacle of Gothic Romance, but thats because you're a wet blanket with no chutzpah. The rest of us are thriving though..

STOCKHOLM (AP) — South Korean poet and novelist Han Kang was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature Thursday for a poetic and unsettling body of work that the Nobel committee said “confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life".
A slow-burning international literary star who has won multiple awards in South Korea and Europe, Han is the first Asian woman and the first South Korean writer to win the Nobel literature prize. She was awarded for books, including “The Vegetarian” and “Human Acts,” that explore the pain of being human and the scars of Korea’s turbulent history.
Nobel literature committee member Anna-Karin Palm said Han writes about “trauma, pain and loss,” whether individual or collective, “with the same compassion and care"
Nobel committee chairman Anders Olsson praised Han’s “empathy for the vulnerable, often female lives” of her characters.

fast food, fast fashion, songs being sped up, tv show seasons being only 8 episodes long, replacing youtube vlogs with fifteen second “day in the life” tiktoks, people in their 20s complaining about being too old...everything is so rushed, we have lost the art of lingering.

It is interesting that Oda does not actually show Hatchi getting shot. If you read the whole sequence, very little attention is paid to Hatchi at all, with most of the focus going to Luffy, with some extra reactions from Camie and Nami for flavor. Even when Hatchi is explaining himself, Luffy gets three panels to himself while Hatchi only gets one
Tumblr media
The effect is that the reader gets to see Luffy make a decision in real time. Oda has said in an SBS that he very deliberately doesn't have Luffy use thought bubbles, so right now the reader doesn't get to know his innermost thoughts. But we can see him work through the emotion of the moment and know when he decides he's going to punch a Celestial Dragon in the face, consequences be damned.
