as a faceblind person, i kinda hate the "noseblind", "eyebrow blind" "x blind" trend going around rn. like, i just dont think they quite understand the difference between old trends and being literally incapable of differentiating traits. i learned that there were different nose shapes when i was literally 14, i genuinely believed that everyone had the same features pulled over a different skull shape for the vast majority of my life. i cant look back on old pictures and think "how did i ever believe this was the same person", because they will always look the same to me if im not paying a surgical amount of attention to them. hindsight doesnt change face blindness. hmm.
i guess what im really trying to say is that it feels like all these people are undermining my experiences with my disorder.
#face blindness#arisveah talks nonsense#facial blindness#prosopagnosia#why isnt that a tag#prosopagnosia disorder#what#im gonna need to be louder about this wtf

I don't think people fully understand how photoshop and face shape changing filters make it impossible for people with partial or full facial blindness to ever recognize a famous person on the internet in their life.
#facial blindness#prosopagnosia#bite my lip#the shape is always different!!!#the photoshopper might change the shape to whatever is most flattering#and i guess if you can see the pieces of a face as a whole it isnt noticable or smth??#and filters change over time as they get updated#im being irl face blocked like im the ai#im tired of this#how am i supposed to memorize the shape of an actors nose so i recognize their pictures#if their nose shape changes every picture#“you dont know who this is??? but we just watched a movie with him in it!” yeah and his nose was crooked and had asymmetry in the movie

I have facial blindness this means I do in fact do that "platypus? PERRY the platypus?????" Thing with friends. Thankfully almost all my friends wear the same shirts every day no matter what. And they didn't know I had facial blindness until I couldn't recognize my friend who wears different shirts. I couldn't recognize her because she would always wear a hijab with a big bow on it and now she doesn't. I am living in a cartoon and Friend With Many Shirts is the protagonist.

Literally I forget about people's entire existence because my brain decided to not develop right.
Prosopagnosia is a rarer/less talked about so people never believe me. I'm not trying to be rude, i just don't remember you. Whenever I think of someone, they all just look the same. I have had panic attacks in the middle of the night because I forgot what I look like.
Whenever I think of people, it's just so uncanny. I psychically cannot draw self-portraits. I psychically cannot draw people without references.
I'm not trying to be rude. I have a disability.
Please, any disability activists please bring awareness to lesser known and researched disabilities. Whether it be prosopagnoisa or any other uncommon disabilities.
I think that it's really important for people to realize that being disabled is traumatic. genuinely. your body and brain feel like they are breaking down and wrong. you are in constant heavy stress from stuff like chronic pain. most disabled people i know have a somewhat regular emotional break down from the trauma of it all. and we are expected to just smile through it by society, to not be in the way, to not be an issue.

Every time one of the Waynes appears in the batman comics, I feel like I’m taking a rigged test.
These comics were written (drawn?) purely to torture anyone with facial blindness.
“Oh!! That must be Jason! It’s not Dick or Tim’s usual hairc—“ it’s Bruce. Fucking bruce.
I’m a fool. Every time I think I’ve got it, I see a panel of Tim drawn like a he’s 25 not 15 and assume it must be Dick because that’s supposed to be a fucking child, like—
#dc comics#Batman#facial blindness#I’m losing my fucking mind out here#how the FUCK am I supposed to follow the plot with all these dark haired white men???

Though I cannot see your face, I just know that you are more beautiful than anything I have seen before. And I have seen a lot of things in my life, darling

Can it be considered "face blindness" when you technically can see the faces of people but your brain simply refuses to remember them and also is unable to associate said face to a name ?
That happens with me to the point it's somewhat disruptive at my work, I'm autistic and my coworkers know so they tend to help me around but it will be annoying to the people I have to deal often to be asked their name every time
It's like I have to rely on gut feeling to recognize a person, I mistook even my own dad in public many times because a stranger resembled him(would that also be related to my struggle to recognize places if there has been the slight change even if it's just seeing it at different times of the day)
Hi there,
Yes, I would consider your experience as Prosopagnosia (or facial blindness).
In one article:
The main symptom of prosopagnosia is having difficulty recognising faces. You'll still see the parts of a face normally, but all faces may look the same to you.
It affects people differently. Some people may not be able to tell the difference between strangers or people they do not know well. Others may not recognise the faces of friends and family, or even their own face.
According to another source:
About 40% of people with autism have prosopagnosia symptoms.
Research into the extent of these symptoms shows that face blindness is more associated with social identification and communication problems when someone with autism has this condition. People with only prosopagnosia may also struggle to understand distance or angles, recognize objects or places, or understand navigation — none of which has to do specifically with human faces. People with autism and face blindness together can still recognize landmarks, but they struggle with faces and body language.
I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️
