Grumman F9F Panther USN/USMC jet fighter Korean War, scored Navy's first aerial victory against Yak-9 and shot down 7 MiG-15's despite being outclassed by MiG. proved quite successful as strike aircraft. First flight Nov 21st 1947, intro to service Dec1949, 1,382 were built

A graffitied Grumman F9F-2B PantherGrumman F9F-2B Panther of Fighter Squadron VF-112 "Fighting Twelve" aboard USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). Likely after landing on the wrong carrier and returning to the correct carrier. "VF-112 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 11 (CVG-11) aboard the Philippine Sea for a deployment to Korea from July 5, 1950 to March 26, 1951."

1945: An F9F-2 Panther on the deck of the USS Midway in the Mediterranean Sea
The Grumman F9F Panther was one of the United States Navy's first successful carrier-based jet fighters, as well as Grumman’s first jet fighter. It was also the first jet aircraft used by the Blue Angels aerobatics demonstration team, from 1949 through late 1954.
