A Wart On The Kennedy Family Name

Robert Francis Kennedy, Jr. has thrown his hat into the ring as an Independent candidate for the 2024 presidential election.  Kennedy is the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy who was assassinated in 1968, and the nephew of former President John F. It feels dangerous to write about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: In the lag between when I put the finishing touches on this and when it becomes publicly available, I could be a conspiracy theory or two behind.

I could be mulling his apparent belief that the coronavirus was diabolically engineered to spare Chinese and Ashkenazi Jewish people while he has already moved on to the hypothesis that Ron DeSantis is a hologram gone haywire (I could buy into this one), the revelation that earbuds deliver subconsciously perceptible government propaganda through our auditory canals or the epiphany that French bulldogs cause global warming. He’s a crank who cranks out whoppers the way Taylor Swift disgorges perfect pop songs.

But we hang on her words for her craft. We hang on his for his clan. Kennedy is where paranoia meets legacy admissions. Like Donald Trump, with whom he has much more in common than he probably cares to admit, he’s an elitist hawking anti-elitism, an insider somehow branding himself an outsider, a scion styled as a spoiler, a populist as paradox. Why do Americans keep falling for these arrogant oxymorons?

Pope Francis has issued an apology after using a homophobic slur during a closed-door discussion about gay priests. Anonymous bishops told Italian news outlets Corriere della Sera and Italian dailies La Repubblica that the Pope invoked a vulgar Italian term during their meeting last week, in which church officials were debating whether or not to allow out gay priests in the clergy.

Pope Francis reportedly disagreed with their inclusion, claiming that while the church should be welcoming of everyone, to be gay and a priest would be to lead a double life. He then said that seminaries already have too much “frociaggine," which loosely translates to “faggotness.” The bishops said they were surprised about the Pope's use of the word, claiming simultaneously that it was a “joke” and that Francis did not know the meaning. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni issued a statement after backlash ensued, telling the Associated Press that Francis has emphasized LGBTQ+ outreach as Pope, and that he believes there is "room for everyone” in the church. “The pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms, and he extends his apologies to those who were offended by the use of a term that was reported by others,” Bruni said.

🐾 paws - if your s/i and f/o were mammals, what kind would they be?

funnily enough, this is something I think about quite often :,) I am a wildlife rehabilitator irl and am huge into zoology so I loveeee making associations between animals and those I love! For myself, I'd either be a mountain lion or some variation of tiger, solitary by nature with a bit of mysterious grace, but able to pounce at a moments notice. Meanwhile, Gus is a grey wolf! Pun aside on our unit being called Wolfguard, he is very pack orientated and always is worrying about the health of those even remotely close to him, along with having the tendency to always be alert for any signs of danger. We balance each other out in many ways, regardless of what form we take hehe <3

🎧 headphones - what genre of music does your f/o like to listen to?

Tav enjoys music that's essentially the opposite of what I listen to, calming and soothing songs you can relax to easily. More often than not it's mostly acoustic or fully instrumental tracks, as he tends to listen to music the most when going through the never ending piles of paperwork in our offices. Beyreis' song J’aurai cent ans has been one of his favourites for a while, he considers it one of "our" songs <3 Other artists he fancies include Françoise Hardy (especially her, he has most her vinyls) , Meimuna, and Carla Bruni! Very stark in contrast to the metal and rock I enjoy, but lovely and so, so him <33

Winter is my favourite season, I love the cold weather and bleary nights, and I especially love the fashion around it >:) Gus has always been quite stylish, even if he won't admit it. He's very put together, and though subtle about his affluent upbringing, you can tell he knows what he's doing :)c I am very blessed in many ways to be his, and that includes the fact he lets me help style his outfits sometimes when out of the office <3 Our personal styles are quite different, and Parisian winters can be all over the place in term of weather, but that doesn't stop us from looking quite dapper I think :) Enjoy some outfits I threw together for us both, labeled with our names to help! Pope Francis repeats gay slur just weeks after apologizing for using it

Pope Francis repeated a homophobic slur just weeks after he was forced to apologize for using it while suggesting gay men shouldn’t be ordained priests, according to reports.

The pope is accused of saying “there is an air of frociaggine in the Vatican” — a disparaging Italian term roughly translating as “f—–ness” — during a closed-door meeting with roughly 200 priests at Rome’s Salesian Pontifical University on Tuesday, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported.

The 87-year-old Argentine also allegedly suggested that it was better that young men with a homosexual tendency not be allowed to enter the seminary, the reports say.

It comes less than a month after Francis sparked widespread outrage when he apparently used the same offensive term while speaking in Italian in a private meeting with a group of bishops back on May 20.

In that instance, unnamed bishops who were in the room suggested that the pope, as an Argentine, might not have realized that the Italian term he used was offensive, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported at the time.

After the initial firestorm, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni issued a statement saying Francis — who has made outreach to LGBTQ+ Catholics a hallmark of his papacy — has long insisted there was “room for everyone” in the Catholic Church.

“The pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms, and he extends his apologies to those who were offended by the use of a term that was reported by others,” the spokesperson said at the time.

The Vatican’s press office didn’t directly address the latest alleged faux paus.

Instead, they pointed to a statement the Vatican had released earlier Tuesday about the meeting with the priests, in which the pope reiterated the need to welcome gay people into the Church and the need for caution regarding them becoming seminarians.

Francis has been credited in the past with making substantial overtures towards the LGBT community during his 11-year papacy.

Some observers of the Vatican, though, have argued his recent mishaps undermine his authority and raise questions about path he has in mind for the Catholic Church.

Ancient text tells of Jesus as a child

Decoded papyrus piece appears to depict story from ‘hidden’ gospel

For decades, a clumsily written document sat unnoticed at a university library in Germany, believed to be nothing more than a very old, everyday note, such as a private letter or a shopping list.

Now, more than a millennium and a half after it was written, researchers believe the papyrus fragment is no ordinary memo but the oldest surviving written copy of a gospel detailing Jesus’ childhood.

Lajos Berkes from Humboldt University of Berlin and Gabriel Nocchi Macedo from the University of Liège in Belgium, two papyrologists, date it to the 4th or 5th century, according to a news release.

They deciphered the fragment and identified it as a passage from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, a biblical apocrypha — or a work from outside the accepted canon of scripture — that is believed to have been originally written in the 2nd century A.D.

That makes it the oldest extant copy of that particular gospel.

The fragment is “of extraordinary interest for research,” Berkes said in the statement, noting it offers “new insights into the transmission of the text.”

Nocchi Macedo said it confirms assessments that the Infancy Gospel of Thomas was originally written in Greek.

After researchers noticed the word “Jesus” in the document, they decoded it “letter by letter and quickly realized that it could not be an everyday document,” Berkes said.

Biblical apocrypha, from the Greek apokryphos, or “hidden,” are stories that did not make it into the Bible but were read widely in antiquity and the Middle Ages, the statement notes.

While Christian sects disagree over the status and extent of the apocrypha, they have long been studied, providing context to understanding the backdrop to the New Testament, according to the Centre for Christian Apologetics, Scholarship and Education in Australia.

Michael Zellmann-Rohrer, a papyrologist at Macquarie University in Sydney who studies ancient religion and magic, called the fragment’s decoding an “exciting find.”

The words on the fragment are believed to be part of a story in which a 5-year-old Jesus is playing near a stream and molding clay that he finds in the mud into sparrows.

When Joseph scolds him and asks him why he is doing this on the Sabbath, or the day of rest, Jesus claps his hands and the figures come to life.
