'Smart' Glasses, but Make It High-Fashion
Hello y'all!
Today we dive into the world of wearable tech, i.e. the extension of smart glasses partnership between EssilorLuxottica and Meta.
I believe this collaboration reflects both companies’ commitment to advancing the intersection of fashion and technology, and bodes well for their respective brand images as companies which keep working to improve their products. 
The partnership, which began in 2020, aims to blend Meta’s digital and augmented reality (AR) capabilities with EssilorLuxottica’s mastery of high-end eyewear design. However, both companies have faced several challenges, as early iterations of the glasses failed to achieve the widespread adoption anticipated.
In a new twist (maybe because it’s Meta and EssilorLuxottica!), their latest smart glasses model in 2023 have a newfound popularity. Business of Fashion (BoF) reports that the newer version of these glasses has seen significant consumer traction, with more units sold in a few months than previous models achieved over a two-year span.
This uptick in sales shows that the product’s refinement - adding functions such as allowing customers to make phone calls, listen to music, take photos via a button on top of the right temple of the glasses, and a multimodal artificial intelligence function - has connected with a broader consumer base.
For Meta, the partnership is a tangible product of the tech giant's efforts to diversify their portfolio beyond social media and virtual reality (VR) and into even further immersive experiences. These smart glasses represent a step toward integrating digital connectivity into everyday life. With AR as a focal point of their long-term vision, this long-term partnership with EssilorLuxottica is the first step in Meta’s gateway to producing richer AR functionalities in the future.
For EssilorLuxottica, the deal aligns with its ambition to modernize eyewear. As the parent company to brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley, it has long led the market in terms of style, quality, and performance. This partnership allows them to cater to a growing demand for tech-driven lifestyle products while maintaining their high-fashion ethos. And by working with Meta, the company ensures their products remain relevant in an age where technology is becoming integral to personal accessories. 
The success of the latest version of these glasses also signals a shift in consumer attitudes toward wearable tech. Earlier versions of smart glasses, from both these companies and competitors, often failed to gain widespread popularity due to their bulky designs and limited functionality.
Now, with a greater focus on style and streamlined technology, consumers seem more willing to integrate these devices into their daily lives. The combination is particularly attractive to the younger, tech-savvy demographics who appreciate merging personal style with functionality.
While the partnership has reached a new phase of growth, it still faces competition from other tech companies like Apple and Google, both of which are exploring AR and wearable tech options. Let’s talk about: safety glasses!

The ones Edwin is wearing are actually some of the very first models invented.

Since its beginning, circa 1880, protective safety eyewear has significantly evolved. The patented"eye protector" by P. Johnson used two layers of semi-opaque cloth to protect those working with fire (i.e., firemen, furnace-men) from the intensity that comes from bright lights.

Now it wasn’t until 1903 when French scientist Edouard Benedictus accidentally invented the safety glass. When climbing a ladder in his laboratory to grab reagents from a shelf, he clumsily knocked a glass flask to the floor and heard it shatter. But when he looked down, the pieces were still hung together due to a cellulose nitrate solution (liquid plastic) lining the inside of the glass flask.
Shortly after, when reading a story in the Paris newspaper about automobile accidents in which the drivers were getting seriously injured by shattered glass windshields, he thought of the liquid lining in the flask and decided to experiment. This experimentation eventually led to the creation of safety glass.

Around the same time, the United States was making its own discoveries. America's first optics teacher, Julius King, was growing concerned about industrial eye injuries, which led to his company setting up an industrial safety and eye protection department. Then in 1909, the Julius King Optical Company developed the first safety goggle in collaboration with American Optical. These safety goggles were called SANIGLAS.

Glasses continued evolving since then. Reason I wanted to delve a little bit into this is because the pattern is quite similar, if not the exact same as Crowley’s glasses!

S chose to wear, in this post, one of the sunglasses models from David Beckham's eyewear collection. Price tag is a bit steep (twice my Ray-Ban Wayfarers), but still democratic:

But why the #gifted hashtag? Before you think C or Scottish Xena lovingly picked those up the shelf for his birthday, you might like to check a bit around for context. You see, all dbeyewear collections are manufactured by a single Italian producer based in Padua, Safilo Group. Hashtagged accordingly in his post, by the way.
A couple of days ago, Safilo Group and dbeyewear's commercial partnership reached a new, very important milestone:

On May 2nd, Safilo Group and Authentic Brands Group (ABG), the corporate side of Eyewear by David Beckham signed a 'perpetual licensing agreement, replacing the current one that would have ended in 2030'. Authentic Brands Group and Safilo Group have been working together since 2019, when Beckham started to design his own eyewear collection. Now, they are taking their collaboration one step further, with ABG (or the licensor) granting Safilo Group (the licensee) perpetual (unlikely to be retired, unless something goes really, awfully wrong along the way: breach of contract, etc.) exclusive right to produce, use, advertise, sell its merchandise.
Something like this needs proper promotion, so Safilo Group and/or ABG graciously sent S those sunglasses, in the hope he will sport them in one of his posts with a potential 3+ million subscriber views.
A word on the UK pretty obscure regulations on promoter advertising and the use of the #gifted hashtag. There is not one, but two competent national regulatory authorities: the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The ASA is a bit more lenient in its approach and they clearly say that if the promoted product has been sent to the influencer on a no strings attached basis, then it is ok to use that #gifted hashtag. They will not pursue, based on the lack of #ad, however they will name and shame you - not a pretty picture, after all:

But the CMA is way more vigilant. They consider that any freebie can and must be monetized, based on its retail value and as such, must be clearly labeled as an #ad, when promoted on socials by an influencer. And yes, they can and might pursue, at any given moment: that must be proportional with the offence and in S's case, it might simply mean being served with a cease and desist notice or a removal and prohibition order. I'd rather not be in those shoes, mind you:

Details:
Maxwell is a wealthy, well-known tycoon who has had exceptional jewelry appraisal skills since he was young. He is introduced in Rafayel's branch of x, "Land of Secret Flames".
In the story, he is described as a middle-aged man wearing a dark purple velvet suit. Rafayel later describes him as a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, wealthy, and hopelessly in love. And from his silhouette, we can surmise he wears a mustache and some form of eyewear (glasses or a monocle).
He was initially on the Hunter's Association's watch list for suspected involvement in illegal Protocore smuggling. And from conversations overheard in the story, we learn he has connections with Ever and had collaborated with them in the past.
"Jewelry, luxury homes, connections... The wealth Maxwell has accumulated extends beyond mere money... According to insiders, Maxwell, who made a name for himself, possesses exceptional jewelry appraisal skills ever since he was young. The banquet he's preparing for his wedding anniversary this year will be held on a private island. All invitees are wealthy celebrities..."
Suspected Protocore Smuggling:
Maxwell was on the Hunter's Association's watch list because, at a recent auction, he had purchased an expensive set of jewelry (resembling a solidified, dark blue tranquil ocean) as an anniversary gift to his wife. Since it was high in price but low in quality, the Association concluded it was probably an Aether Core.
Without conclusive evidence, they couldn't confiscate his assets. So, the protagonist attended the event (with Rafayel, who posed as a new and talented opera singer) to do an undercover investigation. But despite thinking that something was off about the jewelry, the protaganist ultimately discovered no abnormalities.

Ever Group Connection:
In the story, we overhear a conversation Maxwell has with two Ever employees. They mention that an unnamed man was unable to attend, but sends them his regards. The employees pressure him to sell the island to them, framing it as a great opportunity to "collaborate with Ever again" and adding that his wife would likely agree. But Maxwell refused to sell.
After this conversation ends on a threatening note, Maxwell tells his guards to tighten the security around the jewelry and keep a close eye on the deed to Jewel Reef.

The Anniversary Banquet:
In the story, Maxwell is celebrating his 40th anniversary with his wife, Gabriella. The event was a private celebration on Jewel Reef Island with the theme "Reliving the Moment". Since they had met at a masquerade ball, the attendees all wore customized masks that doubled as part of his commemorative gift. Each mask represented the wearer's identity.
At a preliminary banquet aboard his luxurious yacht, Maxwell reveals the jewelry he bought for his wife. At the main event, he gifts her with both the jewelry and the island itself (renaming it "Gabriella's Atoll").

1. Samsung (Technology & Electronics)
I know George used Iphones but imo, Samsung would be a good fit to sponsor the team because a) their brand image definitely fit Mercedes & George a lot (bold, broad innovations, and of course, their main colours (Black, White, Blue) fits Mercedes official colour a lot or it doesn't clash against other colours, colour synchro is important too) + their CSR aligns a lot with Mercedes' as they focus a lot on energy efficient, sustainable, and renewable products

2. Cartier (Jewelry)
It is unlikely for Cartier to be a team sponsor, so i'd like to think of George doing a campaign for their collections. Was actually thorn between BVLGARI and Cartier (but then I thought BVLGARI would fit Lewis better, giving me maximalism vibes) whereas George imo, will look better with the simplicity that Cartier jewelry offers (i could honestly imagine Carmen & George doing this join Cartier campaign)

3. Brunello Cucinelli (Fashion)
This is highly unlikely as Mercedes and George are tied with Tommy Hilfiger (even if it happens, it would be an individual collab w/ George) but a collaboration with Brunello Cucinelli would blow people's minds. George actually wore plenty of Brunello Cucinelli clothes (one of them being the sweater he wore in Austria this year). Brunello Cucinelli emits the old money modest elegance, minimalism, and classic that would fit George a lot (as it seems like his fashion style is the opposite of Lewis' maximalism and stand out-ish)
plus, George is friends with THE Brunello Cucinelli's daughter alr on instagram 😜

I might sound like i'm drunk but HAVE YOU SEEN GEORGE'S HAIR?! L'Oreal can easily make him their model if they become a team sponsor or collaborate with him on a personal campaign. It's a perfect objective for L'Oreal. That's if we're talking about the haircare part, but the skincare? George could too. His skin is *chef's kiss* perfect for a L'Oreal CF shoot on a beach

5. Hennessy (Alcoholic Beverages)
Haven't looked up the F1 policy on this since they seem to be sponsored by Heineken and idk if another alcoholic beverages brand is allowed to sponsor a team. But hey... FUCK THE ENERGY DRINKS WE ROLL WITH THE ALCOHOLS. George's fancy commercial with Hennessy, while drinking a cognac? I'll take it. Plus points for Hennessy is that sophisticated beautiful product design they had (the bottle designs) and the logo 🥹🥹 (i'm a sucker for logos okay)

It's British and had the same vibes and elegance of an expensive hotel just like Marriott Group & Ritz Carlton (I prefer Ritz Carlton over all) but yeah could be switchable. We can still see George doing silly Marriot Bonvoy-like CF
IWC Schaffhausen > Tissot Watches
There won't be a really huge change between Schaffhausen to Tissot as both of them are similarly classic Mercedes vibes.
Police Eyewear > Michael Kors
I just prefer MK's design over Police even though Police ones that George wears are good. Plus point for MK is that they're more well known (opinionated statement)
Monster Energy > None (?)
I don't think an energy drink company sponsor is really needed in George's Mercedes.
Possibly other brand types that i'm interested in for Mercedes to partner with : Airlines (Lufthansa/Etihad Airways) or Luxury Goods manufacturer (Montblanc/Fortnum & Masons/Harrods)
Other than these brands : i personally think Van Cleef & Arpels, Guiness, Bottega Venetta, L'Occitane, and Salvatore Ferragamo to be a great contender in being a good brand for George. But if we're talking about British stereotypes, Lipton should sponsor him LMFAOOO
Conclusion is George doesn't lack brands that fits his image branding and personality. Haters should not worry about who'll sponsor Mercedes/George. There are lots of brands that fit George's Mercedes and George Russell himself, maybe you should broaden your brand knowledge 🤭😝☺️

Mello… Mello, dear Mello, idiot Mello. Mello really thought Near wanted L’s title. Mello was a fool. Near didn’t want L’s title. Near wanted L’s status, so that no one could stop Near from seeing his Mentor again. Near wanted to burn Wammy’s House to the ground. Near wanted to have a normal life, with his Mentordadbrother and A and Mello and Matt. Near didn’t want anything to do with the Succession. Near would have given Mello the title, if it wouldn’t have made Mello want to kill me because Mello would perceive it as pity. Mello hated Near for all the wrong reasons. Mello should have hated Near for more important things than better test scores and the ability to hold my tongue. Mello was stupid. Mello… gets all the chocolate Near’s system has. Dark. Just the way Mello liked it.
and Matt: lovely Matt, Matt who always had a mischievous spark to his eyes, even under the glasses and goggles and whatever other eyewear he chose to flaunt. Near misses you too, you know. You should have been higher than you were. Matt was better with people, knew how to work around them and accommodate. Matt could talk circles around Mello and Near, get us to collaborate. If things hadn’t fallen to pieces, maybe that would have worked out. Near would like to sit with Matt again, someday. Near would listen to Matt speak about whatever game he is playing, and ignore the scent of cigarette smoke clinging to Matt’s clothes. Near would even let Matt touch his hair, if Matt really wanted.
Near misses Matt and Mello. Even though Matt and Mello are both stupid idiots and unfairly tall. Near thinks Matt and Mello were… sort of.. part of him, in a way. Like Older Brothers. You Hate Them, and you fight, but they are Family all the same.
Near wishes he could talk to Matt and Mello again.
