Trying to be Patient
This blue skies and sunny weather that we been having here in Minnesota lately is driving me a tad crazy. I don't have anyting against nice weather. However, it is the light is that comes with it that is just so flat and uninteresting for a photographer. Good for laying on the beach, bad for making photographs.
I am patiently waiting for some clouds to appear before I go and get my camera.

Can't Go Anywhere Without a Camera
Tomorrow (Saturday Aug.17 2024) I am leaving for Prague, Czech Republic. I am looking forward to revisiting a city where I have not been since the early 90's. Prague is one of those places that stick with you for a long time.
I am not working on any new photographic projects these days, but I am bringing one roll of film for fun. The plan is to "shoot" to see what happens.

New Images
Just one image from this summer. Now the task of editing begins. Which images to keep and which ones to reject? Never an easy task.

Unfortunately the end is rapidly approaching for my stay here at home in Norway. I have a had a wonderful and quite productive summer.
During my stay I have made many walks around my home town making images, and at this point I am comfortable calling this project for finished.
In addition, I met with people that could potentially move this project towards an exhibit next summer. All I really need is a yes from persons owning the gallery so that I can start making plans.
In any case, I am looking forward to processing 8 rolls of film to see whether I have images that can add to the project.
It’s all very interesting !

Time to Wrap This Up!
This coming Sunday I am off to Norway for a few weeks. My goal is to finish up my "Homebound" project, so I have packed another 5 rolls of Tri-x black & white film together with my Holga camera.
I am quite confident about this project, but at the same time I feel that there are more images lurking out there in the streets of my hometown. So I will keep going !
In addition, I hope to meet with some people who can give me directions and input about a possible space to show these images. If all goes after plan, I would like to have an exhibit summer/fall 2025.
I am hopeful !

Ok, another image that has been laying dormant for a while. This is Fuji Film's version of polaroid film that they called Fuji-Wide (comes with a big clunker of a camera as well.) Been photographing a fair amount using this film.
My main issue with Fuji-Wide is the rectangular format that I find challenging to work with. Hard to explain why, but it is difficult to make a composition work. I find the traditional square format of Polaroids much more appealing.
In any case, this picture I still find intriguing.

The Leftover Pictures XII
Never meant for the picture to come out like this, but it appeared like that in the scanner preview window, so I thought why not scan it?
Picture was taken in Antigua in the Caribbean Sea 2010 or later. Spent a lot of time just walking around making images with a cheap analog camera during that vacation.

I don't know if I used this image for anything. I seem to remember that I made a print that I was not pleased with. Still think it's an interesting picture.

The Leftover Pictures IX
This image is sort of a "textbook photography" as far as composition is concerned. I have always enjoyed looking at it , and I am a bit surprised at its "staying power", meaning that despite it being quite some time since I made the image, it continues to hold my interest.
Shot on film with my wonderful old Hasselblad camera.

Well then, moving on. This image was taken in Iceland, just outside Reykjavik. Another lovely country that I have had the pleasure of visiting. In any case, I always found this image to be quite funny, but I never found out what to do with it other than posting it on social media such as Tumblr.

Cool buildings
I am going to deviate from my "Leftover Pictures" posting just a tad. I just came back from dropping off work at the Waseca Art Center in Waseca MN.
I wrote in the previous post that I took a picture because it made me think about another picture by another photographer. Same thing here. Sometimes you find buildings that are interesting and cool such as the one in the picture above. This one looked very much like an image by William Christenberry

I basically took this picture because it reminded me of a Steven Shore photograph

The Leftover Pictures V
I made this image in Krakow, Poland in 2008. It was right after graduate school (Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester NY) and wanted to make images for a photobook.
I did make a book with images from this and other travels called "On Vacation: In Search of the Kodak Moment"
This picture did not make it however.

The Leftover Pictures iV
A statue that I will refer to as "greek-looking", adorns this modern- day house in Fløghult, Sweden. This house happens to be close to my father's childhood home, where I spent many summers growing up.
Needless to say, it is the statue that makes the whole picture interesting. That said, I am rather amused by the choice of decoration some people go for in their gardens. With this statue something just seem out of place. Anyone agree?
