Its so funny that Arin and Sora have shown to have significantly better emotional intelligence than any of the ninja from all of the old seasons combined. "You should be taking care of your mental health" and "yeah saving the world is upsetting! no wonder you're having stress dreams" oh my precious children. You are surrounded by a teen dad with massive self-worth issues, the only one of two people who remembers the genie incident and also turned into the sea once, guy who's died like 3+ times and committed genocide under mind control, and a child soldier who's been living the hard knock life since age 2.
I hope to god you two are prepared to witness the most mentally unwell behavior you've seen in your entire teenage lives. You think you've already seen how bad it can get now? Fools. Just wait until you get a mission involving the Departed Realm

CHAPTER 15 - Blemished Innocence
Don let out a light groan as he stretched into the back of his office chair, the gentle squeak of leather bringing a welcomed sense of familiarity to his chaotic week. He couldn’t begin to explain how great it felt to return to his blessedly predictable desk job. It certainly hadn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, especially when he took a cautious peek at his inbox and the colossal amount of invoices nearly made him topple off his chair. But he had made a promise that he would make up for the lost (stolen) time, and he had no intent to break it. He made sure to rise earlier than required, starting with organizing his emails into categories of ‘ASAPs’ and ‘eventuallys’.
Another thought appeared into his mind as his gaze landed on Lotus’ implant connected to his computer.
He still had to tell Leo about what he found in the files.
That reminder wasn’t pleasant. There was so much to discuss, and normally he would be ecstatic to discover new facts and theories about their guest and the world above… but this time there was so much dread pooled within his heart. Just thinking about opening those files again made his lungs quake and his brain skip like a broken cd player.
His mind forced him to remember the news article.
The birth certificate.
The photo of lifeless bodies covered by a tarp-
His heart pounded at his chest painfully, leaving Don clinging to his upper plastron.
Stop. I’ll deal with that later- Don’t think about it-  Speak truth.
All of that is in the past. The past can’t harm you. The past is nothing but faded, irrelevant memories.
Keep your head in the now.
He took a steadying breath, spoke a hushed prayer, and then got back to work.
. . .
Just as he finished sorting the first fifty emails in his inbox, his stomach began to plead.
Huh. He thought after taking a quick glance at the time, Guess I’m a little past due for breakfast… Alright, I’ll just finish another ten emails and then- Another complaining rumble cut off his thought, making the genius groan in displeasure. “Oh, come on! Just one more then? I gotta catch up- there’s like five hundre-” Another louder, angrier rumble sounded, making Don slump in his chair defeated. “FINE!” He yelled at literally no one, “I’ll get breakfast, just shut up! GEEZ.” With an annoyed huff through his nostrils, he begrudgingly turned off the monitor and trudged into the hall.
As he walked, his footsteps giving off a slight echo in the silence of his home, his mind steadily began to drift.
Compared to at night, the lair always felt different in the morning. Sure, it was the same building, but the rooms always felt more peaceful after dawn. As if the sun rising far above ground could still reach its rays into the depths of their home, warming the floors and walls with a sense of comfort that the moon never could. For a long time, the freckled brother despised the morning, as if the rising sun were forcing him against his will to start his day. It also may not have helped that he would stay up far too late studying or getting lost in one of his many fantasy novels… But as he grew and matured, he eventually found a gentle comfort in rising earlier than everyone else. Not only was the quiet appreciated, but it gave him a chance to just sit and ponder about anything he wanted. Instead of filling him with worry like they did in the depths of night, his thoughts now filled him with wonder- as he reflected on the majesty and creativity of his Creator.
Those silent moments were ones he solely shared with God. He could sit on the couch and simply pray to his Father, thanking Him for everything under the sun- things that, amidst the bustle of siblings and excitement, might otherwise go unnoticed and unappreciated. Only during those quiet moments of reflection would he remember blessings in his life that he had taken for granted: Clean water to drink, a soft couch to sit on, sturdy walls that kept him and his family safe… It was frightening how easily one could forget such gifts.
As he turned the corner of the hall, his ears picked up on a muffled argument through the Medbay doors. Ah, right… He remembered, Leo said he was planning on giving Lotus a check up today… Just before he passed the closed door- hoping to give his oldest brother and his patient some privacy- the argument inside struck a crescendo, making Don freeze in his tracks. A female voice inside, though groggy, sounded absolutely livid.
Oh good grief… What in the world happened now?
The genius’ budding curiosity won out against his manners as he silently placed the side of his head to the Medbay door.
“I’m done, Leo. I’m DONE.” Lotus growled, her tone flaring with exasperation.
“Lotus, be careful with your leg!” Leo frantically pleaded, his voice pulled thin.
The sounds that followed resembled the creaks of a table, making Don realize that Lotus was attempting to slide off it. No wonder Leo sounded so worried. His oldest brother’s concerns quickly came to fruition at the sound of a sharp cry from his patient, clearly in pain from putting pressure on her injured limb.
“- Lotus, please stop! Do you want me to have to re-stitch your le-”
“DON’T TOUCH ME!” Lotus screamed, her words trembling between shuddered gasps of air.
Don jolted away from the door at the sound of a loud, harsh slap.
His expression of frozen surprise instantly ignited into a fierce blaze. Still hands curved into shaking fists as his breaths became shorter than the lit fuse within him.
Thing’s have officially gone too far-
Don threw the door open, radiating with protective fury. “WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?” He bellowed to the room, but set his glare directly onto the girl.  He expected to see an inferno of anger eating away every inch of Lotus’ face, going by the fact that she had the gall to slap his most caring and gentle brother.
But instead, all the genius could find on her pale expression was regret and fear. She held one hand tightly to her chest, cradling it as if it’d been burned. Her lavender irises darted back and forth in a trembling zig zag, eventually landing on the eldest.
Following the girl’s gaze, Don barely caught how Leo pulled away his own hand from his face, revealing a stinging, red hue blooming on his left cheek.
“What. Happened.” Don repeated, his tone boiling with impatience for answers.
“Nothing.” Leo and Lotus stated simultaneously as their gazes both fell guiltily to the floor.
It had not even been a DAY since Don and his brothers had a long, teary, uncomfortable intervention with the oldest. And YET, HERE LEO WAS- With that same weighted, liable expression dragging down his features.
Don took an ineffective breath.
Oh, that DOES IT.
“Alright, that’s it!” Don shouted, stomping to his oldest brother’s side. “YOU.” He growled as he raised an accusing finger at Leo. “You’re coming with me. YOU-” His neck snapped to Lotus making the frightened girl shrivel like a petal in flame. “You stay and rest. I’ll send Raph and Mikey in later and they’ll bring you somewhere more comfortable.”
Lotus remained half-standing, her pupils swallowed by the whites of her blown-out eyes.
Don’s expression and voice grew cold as stone. “SIT. DOWN.” He commanded, to which Lotus promptly obeyed, lowering herself back onto the examination table. “Stay.” He growled as his finger stiffly pointed to the floor. He spun back around and grabbed Leo by the lip of his shell.
Tumblr media
“-WhA- HEY!” Leo barked as he began flailing, trying to wriggle out of the genius’ grip. “DON! Geh- L-Let go!”
“-Nope, you are coming with me and we are going to eat because I am starving.” Don stated with authority he didn’t possess, as he began dragging the oldest into the hall.
“-Stop!” Leo continued to squawk in between his thrashes, “I can walk by myse-”
Heterochromatic irises zeroed in on his oldest brother, burning Leo with the growing annoyance of an exhausted retail employee who hadn’t had their coffee yet. In a psychotically calm tone that didn’t match the genius’ seething expression, Don whispered, “You have two seconds to begin walking down this hallway or else I shall resort to measures that will make you question reality itself.”
At that, the eldest’s eyes widened in knowing dread; Everyone in the Hamato family knew not to mess with the brother that harnessed the brains of Solomon and the temper of Cain. “Okay! OKAY, I’ll go!!” The Medic cried out in a rare, whiny tone.
This child.
Don’s iron grip released, allowing the eldest to stand at full height again. Leo wore an expression of complete annoyance as he grumbled, walking to the doorway. Before the freckled brother joined him, he twisted around and gave Lotus one last glare; A silent threat that he wouldn’t hesitate to correct any more unwelcome behavior. Luckily, Lotus got the message going by her eyes widening again, as she scrambled to sit perfectly still.
Good. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
He then joined his brother in the hall, closing the door behind him.
The two walked for a bit, both keeping a steady pace for different reasons: One was starving, while the other was being casually kidnapped.
Before they reached the last curve of the hallway, Don leaned over and carefully grabbed Leo’s face.
“H-Hey!” The eldest exclaimed in surprise as his head was turned. “What are you-!”
“Stop moving. I’m just checking…” Don directed, inspecting the inflamed area on the eldest’s skin. He hummed to himself. “It doesn’t look too bad. I recommend getting some ice on that soon, though.”
“I’m fine.” Leo shrugged, his voice revealing more hidden guilt as he gently tried to pull away from his brother’s grip. He averted his eyes to a nearby wall.  “I’ve gotten worse in training. Besides, it barely hurts now.”
So this is the game we’re gonna play? Alright then. Let’s test your little diagnosis.
Don tightened his fingers on the very spot, resulting in the leader clenching his eyes with a hiss.
“-OW! Okay- Hahh that’s enough-” Leo winced, a single tear glistening at the edge of his eye.
No, I don’t think it is. Don thought, as he increased the pressure of the pinch.
“-Ow, ow! I get it, I get it- I’ll be honest- I’m sorry!-” The Medic whimpered as his hands tried to pull Don’s away.
Uh huh. That’s what I thought.
“You better get it, seeing how it’s a sermon you’ve heard more than a thousand times. Reckless idiot.” Don groaned.
“Hey- Ow! Okay, OKAY! I YIELD! Gah~” The younger finally released his grip, allowing the eldest to rub at the angry, red skin on his face. “Didn’t have to be so rude about it, Don… Ow…”
The sibling in question chuckled sadistically. “I don’t waste my time with propriety, dear oldest brother. Nice does not immediately mean effective.”
A mischievous smirk grew on Leo’s pained face. “Is that Biblical?” He asked, a knowing spite flickering behind his icy irises.
Ohohoho this boy-
Don nodded as an evil grin made its home on his face. “Yes, I believe the verse you’re looking for is Proverbs 23:9. You know it?”
Leo’s grin twitched as he centered all his focus into recalling the passage.
Don began playing the theme of “Jeopardy” in his mind as he waited for the inevitable.
“... No, I do not.” The eldest eventually admitted with an aggravated sigh.
It feels good to win.
“‘Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.’” Don quoted as his smile grew in victory. “Check and mate.”
Leo sputtered at that, offense clear in his expression. “THAT VERSE DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO LIFT ME BY MY SHELL!”
Don shrugged as his smile grew more subtle. “No, but it does tell me that words don’t work on a fool~ Therefore other measures must be taken in order to get the point across.”
Leo’s jaw dropped at that, his maw hanging open wide enough for a fly to land inside. He looked absolutely exasperated. It was hilarious.
“YOU-” The eldest squeaked, “I- We are NOT DONE HERE-”
“No, we definitely are~.” Don hummed in obvious instigation as he continued walking down the hall, pushing Leo along. “Meet up next week? Same time? I’m also open on Tuesday evenings~.”
Leo turned to his younger brother. “Why do you do that?” He whispered through gritted teeth.
“Because it’s fun to debate with someone who relies too much on feeling rather than facts.” Don remarked, his subtle smirk growing.
“Both are important, you jerk.” Leo spat back, now walking at the same pace as his brother.
“Yes, but one is far more reliable than the other.” Don finished, just as the two reached the living room. He looked around, trying to spot his fiery twin. “Hey, have you seen Raph? He’s usually finishing up devotions right about now…”
Leo’s pout remained on his face as he walked past the living room to the stairs that led up to the kitchen. “Last I saw him he was training with-” The eldest opened the doors, surprise flooding over his bleeding pride as he noticed his youngest brother seated at the table. “-Mikey?”
The questioning tone of the oldest made Don speed up his gait while he slid out his phone from his belt and texted his twin,
[Can you go get Lotus in a bit? I think she’ll be okay on the couch for now. Maybe bring her some crackers too? She’s as thin as a twig.]
No response came, which wasn’t that far off for his twin. Compared to Don, who was used to answering every call and email immediately, Raph wasn’t so quick to look over his texts. It was hard to hear the vibrations of incoming messages when he was busy wailing on a punching bag or getting lost in his sketchbook.
Oh well, perhaps that’ll give Lotus more time to calm down, then.
He made his way into the kitchen, freezing at the sight before him. On the table sat a sandwich, completely untouched by Mikey’s side. Alarm bells began to ring in both the older brother’s heads at that. The youngest had always been a foodie, never leaving a single crumb on his plate. Therefore something was seriously wrong. Mikey’s hand wraps were torn to shreds and his face was the color of a stop sign.
What the shell happened?!
Leo jogged up to the youngest. “Uh, Mike? You alright?”
Michelangelo turned around with a horrified expression. “I’ve heard things…” He mumbled, his tone small and drowning in mortification.
Who pulled his wire???
Don glanced at Leo, both older brothers making eye contact. With a subtle nod between them, they approached the table and reached for a seat. While Leo pulled his chair parallel to Mikey’s, close enough that their knees were touching, Don pulled his away from the table, to Mikey’s left side. The freckled brother only had a short break from work, so he needed a clean route for escape when necessary.
Don’s features creased with a growing amount of questions. “May I ask, little brother, why your face is doing its best impersonation of Raph’s mask?”
Mikey’s hollow stare continued, not even acknowledging the genius’ question.
That may have peeved off said genius just a little bit.
“Mike. Michael. MIKEY, HEY!” Don heightened in volume while impatiently snapping his fingers in the youngest’s petrified face. “Have your files been CORRUPTED??”
No reaction came from his baby brother. No flinch, no whine, no giggle, nothing. Don would be lying if he said he wasn’t starting to get a bit concerned. If it were his computer screen freezing for this long, he would’ve turned it off and back on again.
Unfortunately the full system reboot of a person wouldn’t be so forgiving.
Leo popped back into the conversation after hearing the rising annoyance in his clever brother’s voice. “Mikey- Dude, you’re making Don panic.” The eldest softly warned, while lightly tapping at Mikey’s cheek to hopefully snap him out of his apparent trance.
Don huffed. Who says I’m panicking? I’m not panicking! My brain’s just expecting a pop up window to appear over Mikey stating “SYSTEM ERROR”…
The youngest eventually shook his head, cheeks remaining their crimson hue. “Wha?” He asked, as if he were portalled there rather than having walked himself.
“EARTH TO BRAIN DEAD BROTHER,” Don bellowed, knocking a little too aggressively at Mikey’s skull. “Are your brainwaves FUNCTIONING TODAY??”
“Don, quit it!” The oldest squeaked in command, making his right cheek blossom to a similar color of his left. He cleared his throat. “Please stop. For once in you and Raph’s lives, how about you accept that violence isn’t the answer here.” He stated as he pulled up his chair and began inspecting Mikey’s body for any unnoticed cuts or bruises. It wouldn’t be the first time the youngest hid an injury after skateboarding or a stunt gone wrong. Though, the reason he wouldn’t admit to having an accident was usually because he didn’t realize he had one… whether that was the cause of a concussion or a head lost in the clouds. “What the shell happened to him?” Leo muttered to no one in particular, after supposedly not finding any scratches or bumps.
Don leaned further in his own chair, his hand resting solidly on the tip of his chin. “... Perhaps he’s actually lost it- all those mindless cartoons he watches have finally melted his brain.” He got nothing but a quick side-eye from the Team Medic for the comment.
“Mikey! Dude, come on you’re starting to freak me out…” Leo said, a subtle tenseness growing in his tone and posture. He tried tapping at the youngest’s face again, and that finally did it. Mikey let out a startled gasp, pulling back from Leo’s hand.
“Uh… s-sorry…” He whimpered, his head slowly recoiling into his shell.
“AH- NO-” Don yelled, rising from his seat and slapping Mikey on the knee.
“Owww!” The youngest whined.
“DON!” Leo snapped, twisting his head to glare at the genius.
“No retreating until we get some answers for your stupefied behavior.” Don demanded. His posture began to relax a bit after hearing Mikey whine like that. At least he finally made a sound!
The youngest whimpered, his hands rubbing the ‘wounded’ leg from Don’s ‘attack’. “Uh… M-Me and Dad talked…” He shakily mumbled.
Don and Leo turned to give the other a questioning expression.
What on earth could Splinter have said to rattle the little guy so badly???
“What was it you discussed? No mere conversation would leave you speechless with the hue of a strawberry, little brother.” Don asked, concern softening the edges of his sharp tone.
Mikey answered in more squeezed whispers. “H-He told me about… uh… g-grown up stuff.”
That intrigued Don a little, enough to forget the time ticking away on his break. “Oh! Did he finally tell you about how taxes work?”
Mikey’s face (somehow) grew a deeper shade of red as he slammed his head into his palms. A long groan escaped him, making both older brothers tense again.
It was one thing to find their baby brother sitting beside an uneaten sandwich. But it was a whole other level of concern when Mikey was refusing to talk about his problem. The youngest never shied away from any conversation, always believing he had the right to talk just like anyone else, whether he had experience in the subject or not. It certainly was aggravating to hear the youngest attempt to speak in confidence about something he didn’t know anything about, but the reason for his words was rarely ever to boost an ego.
Mikey just loved to talk.
Even Don, the less emotionally-competent brother, could recognize the raw spark of joy his baby brother would feel from a long conversation with anyone in the family. This was most evident at the moments when he caught Mikey talking with Leo about medical subjects. They would go back and forth for hours, the Team Medic showing the youngest different techniques and remedies, while the younger would just sit with large eyes, nodding.
It didn’t matter if it was a Tuesday evening or the end of the world- their little brother always had something to say.
… So WHAT is happening NOW?
Don began creating a mental corkboard, placing all the factors that would help in finding the solution.
First observation- Mikey’s face is bright red. He’s whimpering a lot. He wants to hide in his shell. All those are signs of distress and embarrassment.
Second observation- his hand wraps are an absolute mess. He told us in the past that he only fidgets when he’s nervous or doesn’t know what to do with his hands.
Third observation- He told us he talked to Dad about “grown up stu-
And that’s when all the pins on the board were connected by a long, red string. Don’s body struck rigid as a metal pole.
Mikey had a long conversation with Splinter that was so embarrassing it has left him in nearly a catatonic state. His face is as red as a rose because he’s terribly embarrassed. His hand wraps are ruined because of how nervous and uncomfortable he was.
Embarrassed, nervous, and uncomfortable.
…Mikey’s thirteen now. I can’t believe I forgot his birthday was last week-
Me and Raph… missed it.
Oh my gosh. Mikey’s a TEENAGER.
Leo apparently came to the same conclusion as both he and the genius exchanged horrified glances.
Oh, this poor boy…
All of a sudden no one in the room wanted to make a sound. The air stilled as disguised panic choked the three teenagers, clamping their lips shut and making them refuse eye contact as if it would transfer the plague.
Someone kill me please.
But eventually, bearing his role as leader and oldest brother, Leo made the needed sacrifice of his dignity to ask the clarifying question.
“Um… Mike- Did you and uh, Dad talk about where um… babies come from?” The oldest asked, his voice getting smaller and smaller like Don’s will to exist in that very moment.
At that quiet question the youngest burst out, arms flailing and scaring the daylights out of Leo, “I THOUGHT THEY CAME IN LITTLE SPACESHIPS- NOT THROUGH THE MOMMY’S-”
“- MIKEY!” Both Don and Leo shrieked, thrusting themselves forward and slapping their hands over the youngest’s mouth to stop that sentence from ever escaping.
“-Yeah, okay, that’s what this is-” Leo let go of the youngest’s mouth with the caution of a bomb handler. “Uhhh…” He groaned to himself as his hand began stroking the back of his neck. He looked at Don with a clear question in his gaze.
The genius’ eyes widened in understanding as he rapidly shook his head.
Aw, frick no. You’re the oldest, you lead. I just do machines. Not my department.
Leo’s lips tightened into a dreading frown, but Don stood his ground. The leader sighed, turning back to his little brother who nearly had his whole head into the opening of his shell. “Uh, Mike, th-there’s really no need to be so embarrassed.” The oldest spoke hypocritically, especially in regards to the red now blossoming on his face. “It’s uh- natural. We shouldn’t be embarrassed by something that’s just doing its job, right?”
“-UM,” Don interjected in a hushed hiss, trying not to frighten their poor, baby brother more than he already was. “Leo, do you remember that talk?? At that age? With DAD???”
“I don’t know! What am I supposed to tell him??” Leo harshly whispered back, pressing a hand onto the youngest’s shoulder. “The kid’s passed traumatized, what’s your solution here?!”
Run. My solution is to run.
“Alright!” Don stated quickly, rising from his chair gracelessly, “Now you know, little brother. Good for you. We shall never discuss this ever again.” He spoke, both words and steps increasing in speed as he tried to flee the kitchen.
Unfortunately, his brother was a frickin' ninja.
“-DON, GET BACK HERE!” Leo yelled as he yanked on his retreating brother’s mask tails, making the genius let out a strangled, undignified sound. “You are not going to leave me with a broken baby brother!”
“Actually I am!” Don wriggled, trying to escape his brother’s grip. “I have to get back to work! My timer’s about to go off!”
-I also want to curl up in a blanket and not exist in this world for twenty minutes, but he doesn’t need to know that…
Leo’s eyes hardened as he yanked Don closer, causing another yelp out of the freckled brother.
“Would you rather we settle this here, or do you want me to bring Mikey with me to your office?” The oldest mercilessly threatened, always aware of the cards in his deck and using them at the moments that would seal his victory.
OOOoooh you BRAT.
Don knew when he was beat. It was never a welcomed feeling, being humbled by a sibling at a seemingly higher rank, but he couldn’t deny that Leo had won. There was absolutely no way that this mortifying conversation would follow him to his sweet, peaceful office.
“FFFfffine.” The freckled brother gritted out through a snarl. “I’ll help… as best… I can.”
“Thank you.” Leo responded, using the pronunciation of his words to allow his own teeth to be seen. “Now get your brainiac rear end over here and help me figure out- THIS WHOLE SITUATION.” The eldest commanded, releasing Don and gesturing to Mikey’s shell which now had no connected limbs sticking out.
“What do you want me to do?” Don retorted as he returned to his seat with crossed arms and an uncomfortable expression. “Didn’t scientifically accurate facts make him like this?? If the truth cut him that deep, who am I to stop the bleeding wound?”
“- And that’s why you’re not the oldest or the Team Medic.” Leo bit back, “Your bedside manner might as well be a pillow with a brick in it.”
Don’s face twisted with a wicked smirk.
I can think of so many clients who are in DESPERATE NEED of such treatment…
Leo’s annoyed expression warmed as he turned towards the youngest, his crystal irises softening as he reached out to rub on Mikey’s shell. “Mike? You okay in there?”
A faint whine echoed from the opening of Mikey’s shell. “Nothing in this world makes sense anymoreee…”
“Actually,” Don interrupted as he played with his glasses, giving his jittering hands something to do, “physiology was designed perfectly alongside the science of the world-”
“-SHOOSH.” Leo hissed, cutting off his intellectual brother from going off on an unneeded rant. “Not helping!”
“Well you’re the one who asked me to help! This is what you get.” Don snidely replied, going back to crossing his arms.
Tumblr media
“Donatello…” Leo growled, his volume low but his anger rising. “If you don’t get over here and help me pull our little brother out of his shell, I will personally pour dirt into every hand sanitizer you have.”
Time glitched as Donatello’s face morphed and contorted to complete disgust.
THIS FRIGGIN’ POPTART-
“YOU WOULDN’T.” Don gasped, his hand rising shakily to point at the oldest as if he were singling out the murderer in the room.
“I would and I will.” The oldest sneered, his vile grin cracking wider. “Now every time you want to cleanse your hands of the sins of bacteria, you’ll be met with the coarse, grainy, scratchy pebbles of the filthy ground beneath your fee-”
“- OH GOOD GRIEF STOP- HEUGH-” Don cried out while holding his hand over his mouth to stop the gagging. “I yield! SHEESH I YIELD, YOU DISGUSTING BIOHAZARD.”
“This family thanks you for your contribution.” Leo monotoned as he turned to face Mikey’s shell again, lightly tapping on the youngest’s carapace.
*tap tap*
Leo then froze his hand, waiting for a response. Eventually, he was answered with a single, soft *tap* in return.
“I think he’ll be okay…” The oldest sighed as he began rubbing his little brother’s shell again. “Just uh- needs time…”
“... And maybe a therapist.”
“-DONATELLO INTERI HAMATO I SWEAR-”
And that's it for this chapter! :)
Hope you guys enjoyed! This one was SO FUN to write- I love describing scenes with the brothers- their dynamics are just so silly and chaotic. XD This chapter also gives you a little glimpse of just how bad Don is at getting along with his feelings-motivated brother. XD

I wanna formally introduce you guys to my Nancy conspiracy theory that I’m gonna call Helgate from now on. Okay let me cook.
The Flesh Monster, in S3, never killed a single person (aside from Billy at the end). It only ever flayed people, its purpose was to flay people, it wanted an army.
I always wondered why they lingered on the shots of Mrs Driscoll and Nancy at the hospital for so long during the Sauna Test. It always just felt unnecessary to include that many because, yeah, we get it, Nancy is seeing Mrs Driscoll flayed while Billy is being sauna’d. But then I realised, the shot isn’t from Nancy’s POV, it’s from Mrs Driscolls.
Mrs Driscoll, very specifically, looks up at Nancy. When Tom shows up at the hospital he tells Nancy “we were hoping you might come back”. Later, Bruce says “we’re here for you, Nancy Drew.”
So anyways, the flesh monster chases her, her specifically, not Jonathan despite Jonathan deliberately trying to lure it towards himself, and corners her in the room. Everyone seems to assume it was going to kill her, but until now there’s been no evidence that it wants to kill people. Why would they hope she would come back, why would it be here for her if all it was gonna do was kill her? Answer: it wasn’t, it was gonna flay her.
In S4 Fred has almost identical trauma to Nancy, the trauma Vecna preys on. She is shown, before Fred dies, having literal flashbacks to Barb’s death (and I’ll note - flashbacks to a scene she had never seen until Vecna showed her later). I’ve already yapped about the theory that Nancy was cursed from episode 1, but I’ll also note that yeah, Vecna spared her. Not only did he spare her but he showed her everything that had happened, and everything that was going to happen. He showed her the past he told Eleven, showed her the future he promised Eleven, right before he asked Eleven to join him.
Every kid in the Lab died except Eleven, because Vecna spared Eleven in the hopes she’d join him. Every kid who was cursed died except Nancy, because Vecna spared her. Hmmmmm.
I feel. mental.
Edit: and i’ll add the reason it’s called Helgate is based on Viking mythology. Helheim is a dark, cold underworld ruled by the goddess Hel. Who is half beautiful woman, half corpse. Look her up, some pictures definitely give off Vecna vibes.

Xisuma is a seer, he's got some Watcher blood in him and it decided to manifest itself and give him the ability to get glimpses of what could be and what has been
Seers are pretty rare everything considered, Watchers don't usually court anyone who's not a Watcher and the magic in their blood can manifest differently depending on the person
That and they're seen as valuable, something to be used as an advantage against ones enemies or to take more control over their own future
He doesn't really like using his gift, Xisuma usually considers it cheating, there's a lot of weird shit about him that makes him dishonest and he doesn't want to add that to the pile, he doesn't want to cheat his way into someone's heart
He likes it when he can just exist with Etho and not have to think about what could be and what has been and instead just exist in the moment
That he can be open about everything without having to worry about everything
But there's something about his gift that he doesn't like thinking about, there's a way you can turn a weak or even average ability to See into a much more powerful one, you just need to blind the seer to everything but what could be

The day Macaque won himself an all expenses paid trip to the underworld courtesy of The Monkey King
I would have added his psychotic laughter to this but it's already cluttered enough as it is

stupid tma question time: are blind people exempt from the "not allowed to quit the archives" curse or does it only work if you blind yourself while working there?
