Unexpected Cohabitation a JonDami fic
Before we get to the story I have a few words to say...
First of all, Hello!
Not sure if this will reach anyone, but I had an itch to write, so I did. I almost never post anything. I have reposted a couple things but I'm mostly a lurker and enjoy others creativity and thoughts, I like to think of myself as a cat with few brain cells.
Anyways, I read a manga YEARS ago and enjoyed it greatly and thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be funny/interesting if Jon and Damian were stuck in this situation?" Let's see if anyone eventually gets what manga I was reminiscing.
Now, this is the first time I've ever posted anything I've written and I am not confident AT ALL if this is going to be any good, but I really hope someone out there enjoys reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it...Also not sure if I should post it on Ao3???
Well enough of my ramblings on to the story.
Title: Unexpected Cohabitation
Main Characters: Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne (some of the others show up too, the list is too long)
Eventual relationship: Jonathan Kent/Damian Wayne (my fave)
Stuff to know: No capes, reverse robins, high school AU, no smut, no Brucie Wayne, I know nothing about sports but it will show up, (aaand I think that's it, will add more if it comes up)
Part 1 - Chapter 1
Jon placed his lunch tray next to Kathys’ as he discreetly looked around the lunch room trying to catch a glimpse of his crush. He had only briefly seen him at the mall during summer break and in a panic hid from him behind a rack of clothes. He had regretted not saying hello and had daydreams of himself going up to him, all cool and complementing the brown eyed boy’s pink fluffy hair and then asking him out to watch a movie at the mall theater. Sadly, the daydreams would come crashing down when he remembered his mother placing shirts in front of him and trying to measure him up before heading into the dressing room. It’s not that he was embarrassed of his mom its just, he was wearing sweats and an old hoodie since none of his clothes fit him anymore due to his growth spurt and, well, his mom could be a bit much, sometimes. Throughout the whole shopping trip when she would meet an acquaintance or friend she kept gushing about how quick kids grew and how she wished they would just stop sometimes. Jon would have to bury himself if anyone from school had been exposed to that.
“Looking for Jay?” Kathy asked. Jon looked at Kathy like a deer caught in the headlights and immediately turned red. He sat down abruptly causing his tray to nearly tip unto him. He scrambled to right his milk carton before it fell. Once settled, he sighed and mumbled, “That obvious?” Kathy smirked and bit into her carrot stick making a loud snap. Jon squirmed while opening his milk carton, he took a big swing, pointedly ignoring Kathy’s stare. “Why don’t you just confess?” Kathy asked. “Confess?” Jon spluttered, “He doesn’t even know I exist!” “Jon, you two were in the same history class last year. He knows who you are.” “Yeah. But we never talked.” “Then, how about you talk to him?” That would be so awkward…” Jon bit into his chicken strip. Kathy rolled her eyes and sighed in exasperation. Jon smirked and leaned in conspiratorially, “But I have a plan.” “And that is?” “I’m joining the journalism club.” “What!” Kathy yelled in surprise and then moderated her voice when some people who she startled glared at her, “ I thought you were going to join the baseball team this year, since, you know, your not in a cast anymore.” “The doctor has given the all clear and physical therapy is all done. The doctor was very impressed with how quickly I healed.” “Will they even let you do both clubs?” “Yep, I asked!” Their conversation was cut short when a murmur spread through the cafeteria like a wave. The main players of the baseball team stepped through the open double doors, all nine wearing their letterman jackets. In the lead was the most popular guy in school, Damian Wayne. Whose father was nicknamed the Prince of Gotham. Who in turn married an actual princess from some far off land, giving Damian actual royal blood. Girls wanted him and guys wanted to be him, but from what Jon had heard, guys wanted him too. Damian’s bright green eyes stood out against his brown skin, his gold earring glinted under the florescent light. He scanned the cafeteria with what looked like a sense of boredom. Colin, Jon called him Damian’s second in command, had one arm casually draped around Damian’s shoulders gesticulating wildly with his free hand. The group laughed at whatever the Colin said, but Damian only smiled as he started walking towards their unofficial table. Colin and the rest of the group broke off shoving and cracking jokes at each other while making line to pick up food. Kathy whistled beside Jon, “Now he’s someone who doesn’t know you exist.” “He looks and probably is, conceited.” Jon said offhandedly. “Look at him, he has reason to be.” “Doesn’t mean it’s cool.” “Doesn’t mean he’s not hot.” Jon turned to look at Kathy, but she wasn’t paying attention to him. Instead she was looking in Damian’s direction. Jon looked around and noticed that many were doing the same. He dragged his eyes back to look at Damian. The dude sat straight backed, elegantly eating his homemade meal from some fancy lunch bag that was probably more expensive than anything Jon owned, and scrolling on his phone completely ignoring the many eyes staring at him. Colin returned with the rest of the group nudging Damian and dropping his lunch tray with a loud smack, receiving an unimpressed glare in return. Colin smiled and placed a fruit cup in front of Damian. Jon personally didn’t get the allure. The couple of times he had seen Damian interact with others it was usually acerbic. Somehow that did not lessen his popularity and it left Jon dumbfounded. I good person should be good to others and being polite was a given, his Grandma said so and she was never wrong. Jon shrugged and went back to eating his school lunch. The rest could keep Damian he very much preferred Jay.
I hope you enjoyed it! Will post more soon, hopefully.

OMG YOUR THEATER SEBEK AU
Bro could you just imagine Sebek and Rollo face to face with each other and Sebek immediately turning around not wanting to get exposed only for Rollo to be like.
"Ah Sebek Zigvolt, one of Shaftlands most distinguished actor. I am honored to meet you, I have sat in for many of your plays when you were in Fleur city and waited for when you return to the spotlight once again."
Sebek sweating heavily under the many watchful stares and especially Rook's who's eyes are gleaming too much there
Let Rollo and Rook fight on who is the first Sebek fan if Sebek was a childhood theatre kid who is as popular as Neige and Vil in movies.
YESSSSS
Rollo looking over the students of NRC with judging eyes, before noticing a student he doesn't quite recognize with their cat beast familia- HOLY SHIT IS THAT SEBEK ZIGVOLT
He's a HUGE fan, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Constantly makes references to production Sebek has ever been in during the whole fucking tour. "Ah, I do remember that you used this handkerchief during one of your works. It was a retelling of one of Fleur City's famous stories about a woman who saved the Righteous Judge's close friend. Your acting as E-" "IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE THEN LET US NOT SPEAK OF THE PAST!!!!"
His student aide and vice president always make it a point to tease Rollo for his admiration for Sebek's acting, telling Sebek that the only time he's ever missed summer classes ("Summer classes?? That's kind of sad." "Ruggie how about we NOT provoke the guy who's letting us stay over.") was when he found out that Sebek came back to the Shaftlands. He was there in the audience on his first day.
Rook is DEFINITELY not letting this go. "Monsieur Crocodile dabbles in the theatrical arts? Why, how come I've never heard of this before!" "You stalk people, how have you NOT."
Asking Sebek when his next performance will be, if he can get a discount or a free ticket (He literally has the money to buy a whole row of seats what is bro on about), just absolutely MINDBLOWN
If ever Rollo and Rook were to fight over who Sebeks biggest fan was, I think it would be passive aggressive lawl.
"I must say, Mr. Zigvolt, your acting is absolutely spectacular."
"Oui! Hearing such praise makes me want to see Monsier Crocodile onstage for myself! I fear that you may have a contender for number one fan!"
"I am not a number one fan, as you put it, but it's awfully bold for you to assume that you'll instantly reach such a title when you've just heard of Mr. Zigvolt's achievements. Give it- ah, a few years, give or take?"
"Is that a challenge, monsieur?"
"You may take it as such."
Meanwhile Silver's off to the side absolutely confused because????? Sebek acts???

★ Main Story | Act 13 - Budding Spring | Chapter 15 - Ketchuped To Hell
Company Employee A: I’m so sorry to bother you.
Company Employee A: We’ve been able to handle English-speaking and Asian countries just fine, but this region is a little more difficult for us and there aren’t many people in the company who would be able to help…
Company Employee A: I’ve been considering outsourcing, but I haven’t gotten approval yet. Please, can you at least make sure there aren’t any parts that could be misunderstood in the machine translation?
Chikage: That I can do easily.
Chikage: …
*Typing*
Chikage: (So this is the final document.)
Chikage: --.
Chikage: (...Same last name and everything. I still hate myself for reacting to it out of reflex.)
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Tsumugi: It’s been quite a while since the voting period for the final selection started, and yet the notices of debut performances aren’t showing any signs of stopping.
Kazunari: And there are still just as many new troupe and troupe member recruitment notices too~.
Kumon: That reminds me, there was a kid in one of my classes that said they were thinking about starting to do theater.
Tsumugi: It seems like the more people are exposed to the opportunity, the more people become interested in it.
Tenma: And because of the SNS Votes, more and more theater companies are shifting their focus to streaming.
Omi: While working on a photoshoot the other day, I met someone who works in the film industry and they said they’ve suddenly been really busy lately.
Yuki: A lot of people’s impressions from overseas are starting to pop up online.
Tasuku: The new Fleur Award really is helping to bring life to the world of theater, just like they said at the first press conference.
Azuma: It’s especially amazing considering things have only just begun.
Sakyo: Yukio-san is the type of guy to be in the eye of the storm when it comes to theater.
Guy: With the increased attention on it, he and Kamikizaka must be very busy doing various interviews.
Sakyo: Well, I’m sure Reni-san’s handling it just fine.
Yuki: The number of reviews on the theater forums has gone through the roof, but a good chunk of them are pretty scathing.
Yuki: Even performances done by famous theater companies and playwrights are getting stuff like, “I couldn’t understand the dialogue because they talked too fast, but the costumes were cute, I guess.”
Yuki: And “It suddenly turned into a contemporary dance thing and I had no clue what it was supposed to mean, but overall it was interesting.”
Azami: Honest but harsh, I guess.
Sakyo: They probably didn’t understand the stylistic beauty of that troupe, so it’s likely just them being candid on their first time seeing them perform.
Tsuzuru: They’re interesting to read, but I fear the day they come after us.
Sakuya: I wonder what they’re gonna say about us…
Izumi: Let’s not overthink things and start catastrophizing. We’ll be fine as long as we be ourselves.
Itaru: Right. If we worry about it too much and disappoint our existing fans, we’ll become the harbingers of our own doom.
Yuki: Well, it’s probably best that we all limit ourselves when it comes to reading reviews.
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
*Door opens*
Yuzo: Mornin’.
Tsuzuru: Good morning.
Sakuya: Good morning! We’ll do our best today!
Izumi: Sorry to do this when you’re busy preparing things for your own troupe, Yuzo-san.
Yuzo: It ain’t a problem.
Itaru: Have you figured your attack plan for the Fleur Award on your end, Yuzo-san?
Yuzo: We’re just gonna do what we always do. That said, we got our asses kicked durin’ the pre-votin’.
Izumi: MANKAI Company placed 70th.
Yuzo: We were 103rd.
Sakuya: Furinkazan was!?
Tsuzuru: Even though you’re so popular your tickets sell out every show and you have a pretty solid fan base…
Yuzo: That’s ‘cause most of our fans are older.
Yuzo: So most of ‘em didn’t even know the pre-votin’ existed or if they did know, they didn’t know how to do it.
Yuzo: It’s gonna be a tough battle, but we’ve gotta fight in it in our own way.
Yuzo: Well, this ain’t the end of things, so we’re gonna take it at our own pace and not try to rush it.
Yuzo: But that’s just Yukio-san throwin’ us curveballs in the same way he always does. The things that guy comes up with never fails to amaze me.
Izumi: Haha… that’s him, alright.
Yuzo: Well then, if you’re all ready, then let’s get things started.
Sakuya: Okay! We’ll do our best!
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Yuzo: …
Izumi: What do you think…?
Izumi: (I haven’t felt this kind of nervousness in a long while…)
Yuzo: Haaah… You’re as stiff as ever.
Yuzo: Given it’s a sequel to your debut performance, there ain’t any problems with the way you’re interpretin’ the roles, but overall, you’re fightin’ spirit just ain’t there.
Yuzo: Tsuzuru, you’re still havin’ your doubts about the script, and that’s why you’re not fully focused on the play, ain’t it?
Tsuzuru: …Yes.
Yuzo: And the rest of ya are too focused on wantin’ to put on a good performance to get the results ya need for the rankings.
Yuzo: ‘Course, puttin’ on a good performance does matter, but you guys should damn well know that by now.
Yuzo: Above all, you should think about what ya wanna convey and accomplish with this performance again.
Yuzo: Do ya wanna earn your spot in the rankings or do you wanna show off your growth…
Sakuya: --.
Yuzo: ‘Course, there’s nothin’ wrong with wantin’ recognition. But if that’s all you’re doin’ it for, then you’re just earnin’ points.
Yuzo: You’ll end up bein’ consumed by thoughts like, “If we do this, we’ll be more popular and get more points” or “If we do that, we can get some extra points”-- But what we’re doin’ is theater. It ain’t a competition.
Yuzo: What is a Spring Troupe play to you guys? What are you doin’ this for? Who’re you doin’ this for?
Yuzo: You’re doin’ a sequel of your debut play. What did that play mean to all of you back then?
Yuzo: If you’re gonna do a sequel to your debut performance, maybe it’s best ya go back to those origins and give ‘em a look over again.
Yuzo: …But do it with some caution, yeah?
Izumi: (I wonder if Yuzo-san is also pretty worried about the new Fleur Award.)
Izumi: (No, I’m sure companies other than Yuzo-san’s are worried too… We’re not alone in this.)
Izumi: (What place does our troupe have in the rapidly changing world of theater…)
Izumi: (Maybe we need to rethink the path we’re going to take.)
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Citron: It has been a long time since we have been ketchuped to hell like that~.
Masumi: Criticized to hell?
Itaru: His kindness stat has been upped since back then, though.
Chikage: Isn’t that because of how much he approves of us?
Masumi: But that just makes fixing the parts he doesn’t approve of that much harder.
Sakuya: There… really is no easy answer, huh? Our Spring Troupe’s acting… our origin…
Tsuzuru: Who would’ve thought it’d be so hard just to be ourselves?
Chikage: Because sometimes you’re not the one to understand yourself the best.
Izumi: We decided to do this sequel in order to go back to our roots and remember where we started…
Izumi: So, what do you all think was the best part about Spring Troupe back during the first RomiJuli?
Sakuya: To be entirely honest with myself, my acting skills were horrible. All I had back then was my desire to act.
Tsuzuru: But you’ve still got that desire even now.
Sakuya: Yeah! If anything, I love and cherish theater even more than I did back then.
Masumi: So I wonder what we’re “lacking” now.
Itaru: I mean, I’m pretty sure I’m way more absorbed into theater than I was back then, at least.
Chikage: Our bonds as Spring Troupe have deepened and we’ve all improved too.
Citron: I do not feel like we are lacking anything~…
Masumi: But I get what Yuzo was saying.
Tsuzuru: Same here… He was right about me not being able to shake my hesitation about the script, too.
Chikage: Differences from our debut performance, huh…? For better or worse, this is no longer our “first time” on stage.
Itaru: You mean like our freshness is gone, or something? Well, there is a certain something about an author’s debut work, I guess.
Sakuya: You can only have one “first time”, so it’s not something you can do again, huh…
Tsuzuru: So, does that mean that, in a way, we’ll never be able to surpass our debut performance…?
Itaru: Sad, but true.
Masumi: Something that can’t be surpassed despite our improvement, huh…
Itaru: The impact of a first time and a blissfully unaware, reckless drive do have a certain power to them.
Sakuya: Hmm…
Izumi: …
Izumi: (Everyone seems gloomy now.)
Izumi: Let’s let this problem sit for a bit and each think about it more individually. We’ll have another meeting about it some other day.
Tsuzuru: Gotcha.
Itaru: …Yeah.
*Phone buzzes*
Sakuya: Ah--.
Izumi: The meeting’s over, so you’re okay to go and take that.
Sakuya: Sorry, excuse me, then.
*Footsteps*
Sakuya: --Hello, Sakuma speaking. I appreciate your call.
Sakuya: Um, I’m so sorry. About that…
*Door closes*

I’m not big into musicals and although The Phantom of the Opera is probably the most well known one, I have never fully indulged myself in it. What are some of your favorites moments from the musical and what about it changed your life?
(I figured I might as well learn about it and you seem like an amazing teacher!)
Oh, Stephanie, honey darlin’, I just LOVE this can of worms you are opening for me—thank you so much for asking!! ❤️ (Did I spend way to much time on this? yes. Did I love every minute of it? also yes. Did I cry watching the Overture clips? 100% yes.)
So, I was pretty young when I first listened to the soundtrack (only 8), and digging way deep, I’ll say that the drama of the music itself really got to me—the big orchestrations and amazing voices had me instantly hooked. Also, I was so fascinated that almost the entire musical was sung and that made it incredibly interesting to listen to because I could pretty much figure out the whole story just from the lyrics. I had been exposed to musicals prior to this, mainly Disney ones and good ole Rogers and Hammerstein ones, but this was so different. It was dark and scary (murder! crazy genius madman! problematic love story!). It was dramatic af. And it pulled at my heartstrings in a way nothing had ever done before. And I know Phantom isn’t for everyone because the opera-esque style of singing is not everyone’s cup of tea (and honestly, I am not really a classical opera fan either LOL), but I loved it cuz I’d never heard people do such amazing things with their voices before.
I saw it live for the first time just after my 11th birthday (and 12 -13 times since in various places, not counting filmed productions), and I will say I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. There is so much to look at and take in and somehow I always find something new each time I see it. It's a complete spectacle in the best way possible, honestly. It was everything amazing about theater that I longed to be a part of.
It changed my life because I wanted to be Christine Daae (lol). The more I listened, the more I wanted to sing like her and that led me to the fact that this was a musical and people could actually be in this production. So I learned as much as I could about the production and I tried to mold my little voice to be like Christine’s. And moreover, it inspired me to seek out more musicals in a similar vein, which opened an entire new world to me (hey, there Les Miserables and Evita and all the dramatic 70s/80s/90s musicals lol). Basically, Phantom turned me fully into a theater kid. I was already a dancer, and even though I was relatively shy, I thought that maybe, just maybe this was something I could do. And it set me on the path to do so! Lord knows without Phantom I may have ended up a STEM kid, but lol no. Luckily, my parents were SUPER supportive of this new passion and I owe so much to them for all the lessons and theater tickets and performances they had to sit through and for torturing them with the same thing over and over again LOL. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Anyway, I was the ultimate theater/choir kid in high school, and eventually got my Bachelor’s Degree in Theater as well.
Soooo, favorite moments! (There are many—I could go through the whole show but I’ll try to cut it down lol).
The Overture (see links below). Seriously incredible music, sets the tone for the show, but when you see the stage production and see how the entire set transforms like magic and that chandelier rises above the audience, my god, it’s incredible. The organ kicks in and the floor vibrates and it's this (brilliant) sensory overload that will make you feel every emotion and sensation. It's magnificent, truly. And this was a HUGE deal in theater in the 80s cuz no one had done anything like it before. And let me tell you, there is nothing like watching that chandelier rise (and fall, later) right over your head! Every time I hear it to this day, I get goosebumps, but if I’m watching it, I will cry. That’s how moving it is. Here's some bootlegs of the stage production (which don't quite do it justice, but it'll have to do! WARNING: Flashing lights) Great quality BL (begins around 3:20 but the Prologue is a good watch!). Another one from Broadway (different angle)
The title song (The Phantom of the Opera) number is crazy. I’m not sure what they were thinking putting synth, an organ, strings, and electric guitars together, but somehow it works (the 80s were WILD lol). Throw in a stunning soprano cadenza at the end and it makes it both incredibly surreal and interesting. And the staging is fantastic. There’s a moving catwalk with body doubles. There’s a boat on a dry ice lake with candles rising out of nowhere. It’s just awesome. The costuming is iconic, too.
The Music of the Night is beautiful. And it takes a major vocal and acting talent to traverse it well. I won’t get too technical vocally, but when done well, this song is so seductive and impactful. It’s a love song about music, about Christine, and it’s innocent and sexual all at once (when done well).
Masquerade (at the top of Act II) is a fabulous ensemble number and the costuming is amazing. Iconic number overall.
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again is my favorite song of the show (if I have to pick). For anyone who’s experienced loss (esp. that of a parent), the lyrics will hit you right in the heart. But I love listening to (and singing) this one so much.
The Point of No Return is the most underrated number in the show, imo and one of my faves. It is sexy. as. hell. and a bit unexpected, really ramping up the passion btw the Phantom and Christine under the guise of this opera that the Phantom has written and is forcing everyone to perform. A good performance has a lot of nuance and will get you a little hot under the collar. 😏 I honestly don’t feel like I can explain it well enough, but a good watch/listen/reading the lyrics will get you there.
The Final Lair is the insane climax and it’s a bit of a roller coaster but I love it. You’ll go from hating the Phantom to weeping over him in the span of the scene.
The staging, sets, costuming, and makeup overall (of the original production). Like I mentioned above, a lot of what they did in Phantom was new tech for the late 80’s and to this day has a pretty stellar effect on stage. The chandelier rising and falling throughout the show is just super cool. The (4 hour) makeup for the Phantom was pretty cutting edge back in the day and has a wonderful effect on stage when done well.
I highly recommend watching the 25th Anniversary at Royal Albert Hall from 2013 if you can’t see it live. The quality is amazing, the talent is fantastic, and while the staging isn’t quite the original because of the size of the venue, it gives you a pretty good idea of the vibe. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing at first, there are plenty of clips on YouTube of the major numbers via The Shows Must Go On (linked above). (If you are just watching clips, you may want to read a synopsis of the show as a whole so it makes sense what’s going on.) The 2004 film starring Gerald Butler and Emmy Rossum is actually pretty decent from a cinematic perspective (though I have some major qualms about GB's vocal performance) but if it's all you have, its a pretty good representation of the story. And listen, with 35 years of material, there are so many cast recordings and bootlegs, you're bound to find a combo of actors that you like! (I won't dive into that here though, cuz that's a whole other can of worms...)
Anyway, I could go on forever about it, but I will stop there as to not put you to sleep! If you choose to check it out, I hope you enjoy and you’ll have to let me know what you think! ❤️

Transformers One post
Okay FIRST off I have to say. Sentinel Prime. He was everything. Blue and gold color scheme, with gorgeous gold WINGS. The most obvious villain in existence, but still kind of charms with his first overly friendly reaction to Megs and OP. The scene were he killed Alpha Trion: SERVING. Arachnid being his fag hag. I'm kind of obsessed.
Anyway. I just got back. Walked into the movie theater at 7pm in business casual since I came from work (after a quick detour to pick up dinner to sneak in). I say I want a ticket for Transformers. The teller goes "just one?" with a just barely perceptible bit of puzzlement. I say yup and proceed to have the entire theater to myself. Because no one is taking their kids to see Transformers One on a school night at 7:15pm. And I came alone. 👍
Of course I had fun. The humor I'd say was like 75/25 for me. I had some chuckles and laughs. For kid humor I thought it was really good.
Once again I kind of struggle to conceptualize what it would be like to be watching it as a fresh face though, and someone NOT well versed in transformers canon and lore. Like of course I (metaphorically) barked and clapped my hands like a seal when I saw Transformers I recognized but had no real lines. But a normal kid isn't really gonna care about that.
Anyway, again. It's late for me and I'm trying to get thoughts down now. What else. Let's try rapid fire all over the place.
Loved Elita's whole career woman thing and REALLY loved her "I'm better than you" bit because A) woman after my own heart and B) we love some unironic "girls rule boys drool" style feminism in this house. and I'm so serious.
I don't want to reduce Arachnid to just Sentinel's fag hag either because she also ruled. Her helicopter design looked siiick. The extra eyes on the front of her face and they way they moved independently was also sick. The way she was always yelling when she was stabbing guys was also kinda funny. (The way they used her eyes "seeing everything" to expose video of Sentinel, SOMEHOW, was actually kinda dumb. But don't worry about it.)
The way the trains and roads appeared in front of the train/driver looked really cool.
The scene where Optimus was dead and was floating into the heart of Cybertron, conversely, looked bad.
When it was first revealed in the movie promo content that Optimus was also going to be a miner alongside Megatron, while I wasn't as disappointed as the average tfp simp, I did think it was kinda of a bummer. That being said, it actually fucking RULED how Optimus was a miner. Ever since the introduction of oppressed bots into the tf canon, it was always this post. But in THIS canon Optimus is right there with Megs being oppressed and Optimus is the one that's fighting for social change, while Megatron is towing the line until he learns its all a lie. And once they learn its a lie, Optimus is still advocating for that change, and meanwhile Megatron is just really pissed off and down to get revenge and murder. I remember when I watched Siege and my conclusion was "hey guys, you can just do Autobots Good Deceptions Bad"! Well guess what. they DID that here, to great affect.
That being said..... it did make the megop slightly less tasty. 😔 Autobots Good Deceptions Bad generally requires a goofier, more G1 style favoring of megop. The scene were Megatron drops Optimus into the pit is very befitting of him being evil but if he's already willing to genuinely kill Optimus this early? It does not bode well for the homoeroticism.
Also what this movie loses in not having the Megatron be a liberator is how he gets followers. The Deceptions being the old high council is such a odd thing. Sure they'd want to get rid of Sentinel now, but it's odd to think of them with their whole "the strongest bot rules" thing (or whatever it was, I forget the exact line but you get the gist) but wouldn't they have been working for the other Primes before Sentinel? Who were ostensibly the good guys? Why would they all join up with Megs after getting rid of Sentinel, when Megs goals are seemingly going to shape up to be "just killin everyone". Where would the Council's bloodlust be coming from? Maybe its a political party thing, the Prime Left vs the Council Right lol. Or maybe I missed something. Also side note is funny how Starscream had them all languishing in cowardice when I all I could think the same thoughts I had when a very similar thing happened in IDW's Spotlight Megatron, which was: "come on, it can't all be Starscream's fault. the other guys like Soundwave are competent right. why aren't guys like Soundwave doing shit."
Also may I say. HUGE ups to the timescale in this movie. It's been "50 cycles" since the quint war and if Megs and Optimus were born after it then they're 50 "cycles" old at most. And I missed it but I think Alpha Trion says the war went on for "hundreds and hundreds" of cycles. Four millions year naps? We don't know her!
Bumblebee was the kid appeal guy of course, but it wasn't too grating to me. What I think also helped is alot of the slightly awkward-to-me humor was already in the trailers. So I was prepared for it.
Finally, when Megatron generates his canon. Oooo big sexy.
I enjoyed myself alot! Of course its for kids but that at least wasn't to it's detriment. And it made me want to go look up some toys so. A SUCCESS on the only front Hasbro really cares about, lol.

What's one of your favorite childhood memories?
Hello, friend, good to see you, even if you do hide in the shadows. Hope you are well. <3
Let me tell you about a time I fell in love with storytelling all over again. I grew up on stories; I loved having my dad read to me when I was little (we read Narnia books, the Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings, Robin Hood, etc. I loved *all* of it). I loved the stories of found families and tight friendships like it was my bread and butter because I hadn't made any friends I could get closed to bc family moved around a lot (a decision I don't resent my family for now, but despised as a kid), and I wasn't really *that* close to my family either due to probably a variety of factors, not excluding mental health issues. I won't delve for the sake of length, you get the point. I was a sad and lonely child and my closest friends were imaginary. Anyway back to more concrete events:
We had just moved from Florida to Virginia, which is about 1000 miles away and over 13 hour drive (for context), and we had just started a new co-op (think like homeschool school, but it only met like once a week, it was one of the ways we'd start building up a new social circle or something). And one of the classes I took in was something music (more likely theater? related but that might have a different semester) and the first week of this co-op I remember they gave us a bingo card with a bunch of famous movie soundtracks and they told us we were going to identify the movie based on the song alone.
I got 2/20 or something bc I hadn't even heard of most of these movies bc i just hadn't been exposed to it. It was things like Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, maybe spongebob- pop culture stuff that I just hadn't seen. So everyone else was getting excited and I was feeling more and more out of the loop and alone.
I swear this turns happy at the end, bear with me, anon. They play the final music track and I don't recognize it at all but it fills me with such great joy and a call for a new adventure that I hadn't even realized music could do that before (we didn't listen to a lot of our own music growing up, it was mainly whatever my parents found appropriate or what my dad liked).
It was How To Train Your Dragon. Test Drive. John Powell. And then like the musical scores, they showed the scene it was from. A boy and his dragon racing, flying through the air. And I fell in love With the characters arcs per se, but I could tell there was a deep lore there and a story of friendship that I craved so much. It was also right up my alley with stories my Dad had read me so there was also that. But like the music was fantastic, I really liked the visuals at the time (i usually hate most 3D animation films, HTTYD is the exception), and I craved the story behind it.
I saved up money from Birthday and Christmas and ended up buying it. And I watched it. And I fell in love even harder. Cause, in some sense, I related to hiccup too much. I was a creative person, like he was, I had very little friends like he did at the beginning, we had similar senses of humor at some points, and he was fascinated with knowing and learning things. And he had a big dragon friend and i again craved that friendship deeply. So he added to the crew of imaginary friends and I went on many imaginary adventures with Hiccup and Toothless and told myself so many stories that I wish I could remember now for writing inspo.
I ended up moving from Virginia to middle of nowhere Midwest US (not saying where in case the Fey Find Out), and I did end up meeting my IRL Toothless. A little bit scary on the outside at firsts, but with an actual heart of a silly, goofy, dragon. (brb, im getting emotional just thinking about it. It'd be about 7 years now? Coming up? I may be bad at math. I feel old and happy and content.)
So yeh, in short it was a very much right place, right time kind of story and film. I still watch it a lot whenever I need a comfort film that's not as long as LOTR or something. I love the soundtrack and all of the things about it. Sorry, this was probably way longer than it should've been but IDK how to describe my love for this story without giving you some context.

you went on a big asking spree asking about everyone's favorite games, but I'm curious... did you have a favorite album, TV show, or movie this year?
an EXCELLENT question! but my answers my be a little disappointing, because...
Favorite Movie of 2023
i don't... really watch movies? they don't capture my interest or investment like games do. this isn't for lack of trying over the years, i've been exposed to many different genres; i just don't click with the format, i guess. i think of them like the average boomer thinks of games – they're cute little distractions and not much else.
there's definitely a few movies that i like and stand out as formative memories, i just don't go out of my way to watch more. even before the pandemic i would only ever go to the theaters like once a year, and for most of the pandemic i can't say i watched anything even digitally.
...but that did change this year! my partner and i watched both Sonic movies and the Mario movie at home, and of the three i can safely say i enjoyed Sonic 2 the most! i like what it was trying to do with its two stories intertwined, and it gave Sonic and friends a lot of time to shine both in action and characterization. plus the finale was super cool~
i do have a handful of films i want to watch one day... but it's kind of a "whenever i feel like it" basis. the ghibli films are high on the list, as are the monty python films and the truman show. maybe i could revisit ferris bueller's day off now that i'm an adult...?
Favorite TV Show of 2023
...i also don't really watch tv?? am i boring???
i mean, historically, i've gotten more into tv than movies. i like the long continuous plot threads, i like getting to know characters in detail, i like slice of life and comedy and cartoons. i have fond memories of watching sonic x, spongebob, survivor, and mythbusters growing up!
but like, as an adult i've never seen the office, or steven universe, or adventure time... and i'm in no rush to, they're just not really priority for me. i can't even think of other shows i might want to watch. idk!
i tried to watch some anime at one point but that didn't really do me either? i guess i had some fun watching squid girl a few years back... i think i just get understimulated by just watching things, vs playing them.
confusingly, you know what i do get into? livestreams and let's plays. so my weird, cop-out answer of "favorite series" is that i've been really enjoying Chuggaaconroy's let's play of pokemon bw2. his let's plays have gotten me caught up with a series that i wasn't "allowed" to play as a kid... i guess that's part of why watching someone play a game isn't as understimulating to me?
Favorite Album of 2023
you can probably guess where this is going – i don't really listen to music that plays on the radio or gets recommended by spotify. i have good reason for this one though: music with lyrics is overstimulating to me in specific circumstances, like when i'm working (always) or driving (the only time i'd use the radio).
but wait, movies are understimulating, even though there's talking... and music with lyrics is overstimulating, even though there's nothing to watch... argh! i don't even understand myself!!
either way i usually put on video game music, because that helps me focus at work, and (usually) doesn't have lyrics in it. i'm aware there's plenty of great instrumental music outside of just games, but games already have so much variety and quality to their osts – i've rarely ever had to seek out more! my music collection is already big enough!
my favorite album to listen to this year has been the music that plays in the cyberspace stages of Sonic Frontiers. the full game's ost is MASSIVE and incredibly diverse in styles, but the hardcore EDM of the cyberspace stages is extremely my style. and the remixes they added in the dlc are some of the best ones! been listening to the full playlist multiple times a week all year to power through some rough work days, and it still hasn't gotten old 💖

Digital interview with @pinespittinink
Catherine Hellens orders a chai latte and sits down in the corner of Writeblrcafé. She writes poetry and a book. Her favourite genres include fantasy, fiction, science-fiction and speculative fiction. We start chatting about her writing.
What got you into writing?
Being exposed to really excellent authors as a child and realizing that writing stories was something I could do! I was filling notebooks and tapping out on my mom’s computer from such an early age. I’ve always had ideas inside me, and as a kid inspiration came to me very easily and frequently.
What inspires you to write?
I get inspired by visuals, music, nature, and dreams, predominantly. Also, reading other excellent writers’ books encourages me to keep going.
Which are recurring themes in your writing?
Oh boy—themes are actually something I never set out to write specifically, but they do crop up in my works. The biggest and most common one is devotion—specifically, how much will you do for love. I’m a romantic at heart, and nearly all of my works have a love story or a variant of one at the heart. Questions of identity also arise from time to time. Who we are, who we’re perceived to be, who we become. But they are always unique to the characters and never intended to be messages.
How would you describe your writing style?
Romantic. Prosey. Lush, as overused as that word is now. I’ve had it described as vivid and cinematic; I like to paint pictures and I love love love details. Setting is incredibly important to me and one of the first things I think of when I begin writing or conceiving ideas, so it has a large feature.
How do you deal with writer's block?
I just have to trudge through it, really. Even if when I sit down to write, I only write a few hundred words or fewer, it’s still something, and eventually I’ll create the groove again. Going on walks and mulling everything over also helps a lot.
Do you have a wip? Tell us about it:
My current wip is a queer standalone adult speculative fiction novel called The Great Glavenisean Theater. It’s about a man named Morgan who comes to the City of Spires and ends up working at the titular theatre as a seamster, where there is an interdimensional portal in the belly of the stage that moves the shows through multiple planes during the performances. But there are weirder things going on in the theatre, and as Morgan investigates them, he begins to suspect the prima donna Ariel of the attempted sabotages of the portal, and suspects that maybe they aren’t like the rest of them. I’m currently doing minor edits on the first draft and will be looking for betas during the month of April!
Tell us more interesting stuff about you:
I live in New England with my queer platonic partner, whose writing I love more than anyone else’s in the universe. We have two stupid rag doll kitties named Eurydice and Napoleon, and I collect crystals and special editions of certain books I love. I have patience with temperamental printers and put up tapestries across ceilings, and I’ll be building a sofa soon when it arrives. I’m also a classically trained mezzo-soprano who misses singing in a choir and contents myself with my car instead. Also, I’m a Capricorn.
Thank you for the good talk and keep writing!

You're bi correct? Do you mind, when did you realize you were bisexual? Has it been easy or difficult for you?
i started questioning my sexuality when i hit puberty, around 12 or 13. the thing was that i was a pretty online kid. and i was unfortunately exposed to a lot of fetish content bc of my interest in webcomics (sites like topwebcomics didn't separate adult comics from general audience comics) and that made it really difficult for me to figure out if i was actually attracted to girls or just seeing other girls as sexual objects. the other thing was that i didn't really know you could be bisexual. i knew you could be gay. i read yuri manga and webcomics like "i was kidnapped by lesbian pirates from outer space" and i drew original female characters in lesbian relationships. but my impression of bisexuality came from maureen from rent and whatever was going on in rocky horror picture show. it seemed purely sexual.
i was really frustrated that i was sexually into girls but romantically interested in a boy. it was confusing because i knew i liked this boy, but with my girl friends we'd have sleepovers and we'd sleep in the same bed and i thought about what it would be like if we kissed, and meanwhile i didn't really think about kissing the boy i liked? i designated all of my female friendships as platonic, by the way. the kissing thoughts were just thought experiments, i guess. i tried dating a different boy who asked me out in middle school and it just felt embarrassing and burdensome and the intimate moments we had made me feel unclean. i just thought my feelings for boys and girls should be the same if i was really bi, and they weren't.
i think by high school though i was thinking of myself as bisexual. i didn't really ever have to come out to anyone that i remember. i was the only girl in my class with short hair who didn't wear makeup. some other girls were uncomfortable with me, i knew, especially when we had to change together in p.e. or choir or theater. my haircut was even a point of contention with the directors in one of my extracurriculars because every other girl in the performance had long hair and i ruined the homogeneity. i tried to grow my hair out my sophomore year and even wore contacts and mascara, i couldn't stand it and had it all cut off again before it even reached my halfway down my neck fjhgksfjdg
(as an aside i'm forever grateful that the trans social contagion was only a point on the horizon when i was k-12 bc my crossdressing ass might not have gone unscathed)
but as i touched on before, i really struggled to recognize when i was attracted to other girls. i would draw boys (or male celebs) that i found attractive, and that artistic motivation seemed obvious. meanwhile i had a close friend and i once named a piece after her because some drops of ink spilled on it and reminded me of her moles. we exchanged portraits of each other. yet i was oblivioussss i fumbled her so hard, i was dumb as hell.
it got difficult again when in college i discovered i don't want to look at or interact with dick in any way, and i had to reconcile that feeling and decide if i thought you could be penis-repulsed and bisexual (yes bc all forms of attraction count toward your sexuality)
tl;dr i probably realized when i hit puberty, the inconsistencies in my feelings really bothered me for a long time and the sense that i wasn't like other girls had me feeling alienated on some level, but i had some really strong female friendships and that helped me. the fact that randos can look at me and tell that i'm into other women makes me anxious abt their reactions and it frustrates me when people act like all bi women look straight. being bi is kinda difficult ngl but i am happier w my sexuality now than i've ever been
#answered#so there were other factors fucking with me but i think being bi can be confusing and difficult#i do think positive bi representation matters for little kids#same as being able to see gay people in loving relationships#it helps you recognize it in yourself and normalize it

Spring Awakening Fandom Tag
By (@winter-alseepening)
I saw @dwsavideos and @feelssogoodinmyarms do this and was inspired :)
1. how were you introduced to the show?
I always knew it existed, but one day on a long car drive I just decided to sit down and listen to it, and then everything clicked.
2. Seen a production live?
No, sadly. The most recent performance in my area was a high school that production last year -- it was a big deal but I could not make it.
3. Dream role/character you relate to most
I would literally kill to play Ilse! Unfortunately most of her songs are right over my first passaggio rip
For character I relate to the most? Some weird combination of Wendla’s naïveté and Melchior’s pretentious bitchiness.
4. Favorite male character
Hanschen — there’s something so satisfying when you see him done right on stage (even though it’s rare).
5. Favorite female character
Ilse, but I feel like Anna and Thea are under appreciated.
6. Deaf West Revival or Original Broadway Cast?
OBC laid the groundwork, obviously, but DWSA all the way! I’m actually also partial to the Almeida production (unpopular opinion, I know) because the technical and design elements just give it its own hauntingly beautiful identity that is totally unique
7. Favorite song
Touch Me but also Don’t Do Sadness/Blue Wind but also Clouds Will Drift Away which was sadly cut
8. Least favorite song
Maybe this is a cop-out, but I always skip There Once Was A Pirate.
9. Favorite quote/line
Listening/To the souls in the fool's night/ Fumbling mutely with their rude hands/ And there's heartache without end
10. Favorite TV performance
Definitely Touch Me on Seth Meyers
11. Favorite cast member(s)
Andy Mientus, Krysta Rodriguez, Krystina Alabado, Jonathan Groff (and Michael Arden basically counts, right…?)
12. Favorite cast member moment
Daniel Durant and Alex Boniello dramatically signing along songs backstage (especially that one video where Daniel attempts guitar and Alex attempts the signs and it’s such a mess)
but basically anything in this video
13. Do you write fan fiction?
Okay exposing myself but I wrote (am writing?) Still Together When It Ends which was a fake dating au that’s gotten a little out of hand
14. Do you make fan art?
Not really, but I like to draw if I have free time (which is rare right now)
15. Do you cosplay?
No, but if I come across some nice vintage dresses I will buy them
16. Don’t do Sadness or Blue Wind?
I can’t pick!! The magic of the songs is really how they layer seamlessly together.
17. Word of your body or the Reprise?
Reprise if DWSA, WOYB if any other version though
18. Touch Me or My Junk?
Touch Me, easy! Although moment of appreciation for the My Junk snowstorm video
19. Explain the song of purple summer
It’s about the passage of time, of the kids moving from one phase of their lives to another. They’re tapestries of their struggles and desires and dreams and guilt that they’ll always have, and they sing of everything they’ve known and the idealized future they hope to come. It’s a summer they might not see, but the seasons are changing anyway.
20. Explain the song of purple summer (wrong answers only)
Actually it’s just an excuse to show off all the fake flowers from Michael’s the theater department has stocked away
