We got our new Explorers Admins revealed with names and CVs in today's episode, and four images were also shared!

Spinel, voiced by Makoto Furukawa. Onyx, voiced by Yuki Onodera. Agate, voiced by Mimi Maihane. And Sango, voiced by Ikue Ohtani.

So in the upcoming chapter of Horizons, "Terastal Debut", it seems Liko and co. will be attending Naranja Academy. But it seems Onyx, Agate, and Sango (or as the dub now calls them: Sidian, Chalce, and Coral respectively) will be attending the school as well. Chalce/Agate will be signing up to act as a teacher, while Onyx/Sidian and Sango/Coral are acting as students, since they're wearing student uniforms. Most likely, they want to get Tera Orbs themselves so that Amethio isn't the only one using Terastal. But it's quite interesting how Coral and Sidian are both acting as students while Chalce is acting as a teacher in the academy.

Onyx and Sango (or as I should say, Sidian and Coral) are pretty clearly a duo with each other and they pretty much always stick together. They seem to be the comic relief of the Explorers group and form a comedic duo with the contrast between them amplifying their dynamic for maximum comedic effect. Coral is a petty, short-tempered brat who easily loses her shit at even the pettiest of things, while Sidian is much more level-headed and serious to an almost extreme degree which complements her in a funny way.

These two really feel like the Jessie and James of the Explorers and Liko's story. Two troublemakers who everyone else in the organization sees as a nuisance and pain, play the comedic relief at times, and seem to be frequently in confrontation with the heroes and directly confront them in battle, although they're also a lot more competent than those two ever were. They tend to show up in contexts outside of the Explorers' missions and stir up comedic antics like Coral going after Wiglett sweets and getting mad about not getting any, and in this case there's clearly setup for them to have antics around Liko, Roy, and Dot as fellow classmates and students at Naranja Academy, and likely tension between them on equal levels as students. Maybe during their time here they'll end up battling each other in a formal school setting, like a tournament or something. Liko and Roy vs. Sidian and Coral in a Tag Battle once again. A recurring trend that they may keep up over the course of the show. They definitely feel like a more competent version of Jessie and James who despite being antagonists also have a comedic relief angle and will likely have the most personal relationship with Liko, Roy, and Dot over the course of the show. Well, aside from Amethio. Especially since as students and classmates of our heroes, they're interacting on a formally equal level here in this next chapter. They may start to have a close relationship with them that borders on the two frequently meeting and being weird frenemies who like-hate each other on a personal level.

Chalce (aka Agate) acting as a teacher on the other hand raises some interesting questions about her role in the Explorers group and in the story as a whole. This would imply that she's the most senior admin of the organization and has authority over the other admins. This was kind of hinted at as she was the leader of the operation to capture Rayquaza and in charge, giving Sidian and Coral orders to follow. She doesn't seem to have any particularly standout traits as an antagonist, and is very straightforward and calm, but has natural authority in the group, and acting as a teacher in Naranja Academy likely reinforces that. That said she seems to be little more than someone who is experienced at what she does and takes her job seriously, which is different from Spinel who clearly has his own motives outside of the group and admits to using them as a means to an end for his own self-gain.

Getting to see the rest of the Explorers admins in proper action as of late has shed more light on their characters, and I look forward to seeing how each segment of the Explorers continue to play a role in the story. We have a duo of troublemakers in Sidian and Coral (Onyx and Sango) who are sort of comic relief, a senior admin in Chalce (Agate) who takes her job seriously and has the most authority of the lot, a particularly selfish and evil one in Spinel who is trying to use the group for his own selfish motives, and Amethio is pretty unique in that he seems to have a personal growth arc and is the protagonist of his own story, while he hangs out with his two subordinates who keep him grounded. There's a lot of differences between these three and it will be interesting how their roles in the story and their relationships with each other and the Rising Volt Tacklers continues to change over the course of this show.

Clavell misunderstood Onyx and Sango's intentions, but he still referred to Liko and the others as their friends! So the possibility of friendship between Onyx and Sango and the main group is now on the table, since it's pointed out in the writing itself.

It seems like they are tying Onyx and Sango to Liko and Roy specifically ever since the end of chapter 1, setting them up to be each other's personal opponents (similar to the way Amethio and Friede are each other's opponents). They first faced each other at the castle in HZ025, though at the time Liko and Roy couldn't do much and Cap came to help them. Towards the end of chapter 2, they faced each other again in HZ043 and that time, they held their own against them even though Onyx and Sango weren't fully serious. Their battle was interrupted since Onyx and Sango had to prioritize their mission. So maybe they'll face each other again at the end of chapter 3? Onyx and Sango are part of the Terastal Course after all, and in a way, we get to see Liko and Roy's progression and growth as trainers when they are against them. Out of everyone in the Explorers, Sango and Onyx function the most a duo, similarly to Liko and Roy.

There were situations highlighting their similarities and showing that they are not so different, too. Liko and Onyx reacting the same way in HZ043 when they both thought "I'm not sure I like where this is going...", or even now in HZ050, Clavell kept rambling to both Onyx and Sango, and then did the same to Liko and Roy (though Sango left and then Onyx followed her). And even the setting of this arc makes them close to each other, since they are all students taking the Terastal Course.

Plus, Sango is the one Explorers with the most interactions with Liko and Roy outside the "mission" setting, and the one who has the most "casual" interactions with them (challenging them about cakes in HZ043 which had nothing to do with her mission, and even in HZ047, she casually told them the reason why she was at Kaede's shop and faced off against Liko in a baking contest). She is also the only one other than Amethio who introduced herself by name, so they know her name (Liko and Roy still don't know Onyx's name, though).

Amethio x Explorer Admin!Reader

Note- Reader is a teen because Amethio is canonically a teen,

Honestly? He was rather interested in your skills, it's hard to get into an evil organisation as a teen, yet alone be an admin. (He knows this from first hand experience).

He'd still he distant, but would keep an eye on you.

Who can blame him? He works in a team of mostly adults, some of which look down at him for his young age but high position.

I can imagine that the two of you started to talk when you ran into him after he had finished training,

Expect a friendly rivalry. He wants to make sure you're not lagging behind with your battling skills incase anyone else tries to poke fun at you for being a younger admin.

If anyone does poke fun at your younger age, you can fight back due to the training sessions you've had with him.

If you aren't the best at battling, no need to worry, he's always there to make sure no one starts trouble with you.

But with that being said, please don't start trouble with the Troublemakers, he absolutely hates them and doesn't want anything to do with them.

When the two of you get into a relationship, it'll be kept private for obvious reasons (the Explorers hate eachother)

If Sango finds out about your relationship, get ready to never hear the end of it, and ultimately have the rest of the Explorer admins know about the relationship,

Spinel would definately make a comment on the fact that the two of you are teens and are dating,

Infact, there is no-one else your age who is near either of you enough to form a relationship

The other two Admins, Onyx and Agate, definately won't care enough about your relationship to make any comments.

The two of you probably aren't affectionate anywhere (mostly as Amethio is uncomfortable with physical touch at the start), but if you ever were, you know someone (Sango) would comment on it,

Imo, this is the most telling/concerning line of the explorers

As we’ve seen, the environment of Explorers is incredibly toxic. 3/4 of the other admins have each insulted or taken shots at Amethio somehow. And it looks like this is nothing new, it’s horrible how Conia’s reaction to him being in a room alone with them is ‘oh god i hope he’s okay’. Amethio is a minor, he’s in a room full of people who seem to all be much older than him and ,in complete contrast to Liko’s situation, they all belittle him and insult him for every little mistake. It’s really upsetting how the only two people who have any sort of concern for him are his underlings- but Conia and Zir are absolutely powerless to really do anything about this. As much as they care about him, I don’t think Amethio would even be able to allow himself to be proper vulnerable around them. He’s already having to constantly prove himself, so how could he do something as unprofessional as spilling his worries to his underlings? It seems the only one he’s comfortable being open with is Ceruledge, but once again there is very little it can do to help him.

Then there’s Hamber. I’ve seen a few people give him the benefit of the doubt, especially because of episode 34 where it looks like he’s taken a shine to Amethio. But don’t let his fake concern fool you.

All i see here is basic professionalism, like he’s reading what he has to say off a script. He doesn’t actually mean what he’s saying: we’ve seen how high the Explorers expectations are, I mean just look at how much Amethio is overexerting himself in the second op, surprise surprise Hamber is sitting back and merely watching despite his earlier comment of not straining yourself. Not to mention, the moment things start going well for Amethio, Hamber immediately undermines his agency by going with Sango and Onyx to sort things out personally. Like no wonder Amethio seems to be triggered by not being taken seriously when this is how his (employers? guardians? idk) treat him!

He’s also got soooo many red flags! The biggest being when Sango half-heartedly refuses orders, to which he responds:

Literally physically intimidating her! And her reaction raises even more red flags, despite her happy demeanour the way she instantly complies is very telling that this isn’t the first time Hamber’s resorted to such threats… and this is the same environment a 16ish old is being raised in!

Maybe it’s just the amount of pressure he was putting on himself, but look how stressed and low-key terrified Amethio looks when fighting Hamber!!

And even if we want to make the case that maybe Amethio is this special exception for Hamber and that he’s got a soft spot for him… he is ultimately still complicit in grooming Amethio into this shady organisation. Episode 34 even reveals that Hamber was the one who trained Amethio, which also fuels the idea that he might have been some random child they find and realised how easily they could manipulate him into becoming the perfect loyal admin. Well i personally subscribe to the Amethio is an orphan theory rather than Gibeons son, especially considering that comment about Gibeon ‘awakening’, Idk if Gibeon is even properly alive.

It’s kinda weird how we’ve gone from ‘haha look at team Rocket blast off again aren’t they so wacky?’ to literal child grooming. I’m all for the serious themes tho.

Tldr: Hamber deserves to be pushed down a flight of stairs, Amethio needs so much therapy.

Sango relationship headcanons!

Sango is honestly underrated, and is always overshadowed by the other Explorer admins. Give my pinkie pie some love too. SHORT.

Sango is very showy if that makes any sense, she has no shame in showing you off to her fellow Explorer admins to remind them how lonely they are.

constantly taunting Onyx about it, "What's wrong? Don't have a cuuuuute loving partner like I do? Hah, that's because Sango is so cute unlike you."

And he's just there like, "ok.'

Sango doesn't mind public displays of affection, she'll hug you whenever she wants. Infact she loves it.

Sango is teasing and playful. She will let you chase her around places, because she feels like it... It has lead to a few arguments.

She wouldn't really ask for advice unless she's really fucked up.

Like in the anime, she accidentally blurts out important things. Sango might accidentally spoil her date plan for the both of you.

Speaking of dates, she would absolutely love chatting with you while eating sweets. It's not anything fancy, but she doesn't care.

You have to get used to her praising you for the most randomest things ever, petting your pokemon? "You're such a cutie! Sango's inlove again, wah."

Pet names are normal, it's like she forgot your name. New ones everyday, you won't get bored! She calls you cutie constantly though, every second.

time for me to overanalyse horizons again

So… what the hell happened between Gibeon and Lucius because it’s evident that something did happen. Like did Lucius do something that offended Gibeon or vice versa?

Also the fact that Gibeon can phone people is an interesting detail, like I was with the theory that he’s an Ai but recent episodes have made me doubt it, especially with Amethio’s treatment by the rest of the Explorers.

At the beginning of the episode, Onyx mentions how he’d like to join Amethio down on the ground. Ok it’s own, this really isn’t anything, however once the fact that Amethio has his own submarine, his own two grunts, he gets off with disobeying orders, the theory about him being Gibeon’s son is starting to make more and more sense.

Like Spinel worked on his own, and Sango+Onyx weren’t shown alongside any grunts. There are other grunts in the Explorers, since Hamber speaks to one in episode 24 who tells him that Agate and Spinel are in the lab.

Also the fact that Amethio is called “sir” by Zir and Conia, compared to how the others refer to the admins, which is “Master” and then their name.

Summary of chapter 1:

There’s another section where the disposable employees of the Explorers are allowed to stay. Amethio refuses to send his subordinates there. Given his mannerisms and trust issues with the other admins, Onyx isn’t surprised by Amethio’s decision. But it’s a different case entirely with Spinel. He’s not overly fond of or affectionate towards any of his underlings, so keeping the new mechanic in his own wing is just a way to flex his power and taunt Onyx.

He can practically hear Spinel’s voice saying,

“Look Onyx, I’ve got a new employee when Hamber forbade you from doing the same”

Pokemon Horizons Episode 24 Review - Diana And Terapagos

After two weeks, Horizons is back! Although this is the final episode of the first arc (Liko and Roy’s Departure), it feels more of a buildup rather than a closure. We meet Liko’s grandmother Diana, we learn of Terapagos, and the Explorers are going out of their way to become scarier threats with the way they’re gathering their admins.

After so much buildup, Diana is finally introduced in the flesh. She is an adventurer as she started her adventures due to finding the pendant and Lucius’s diary in her family’s attic one day and decided to set out. As she got older, she gave up on finding about the secrets of Lucius, but still had the adventurer’s spirit at heart, which was why she still traveled around. The last time she saw Liko was a year before Liko’s story where she had visited Paldea and gave her the pendant as a good luck charm for school. At the time, she had no idea the pendant harbored Terapagos. As a character, Diana seems like a very cool person. I like that she still chases after her passion, adventuring, even at her old age. While she is finally introduced, I do feel as if she was mainly present for upcoming plot points and foreshadowing. She knows what Terapagos is; she knows what Rakua is. She knows that the Explorers are after the pendant. I just find it annoying that the writers build all these up and then get interrupted constantly, whether it be Fuecoco becoming hungry or the actual Explorers intruding into her house. I just hope this isn’t the last we see of Diana. I want to see more of her next episode!

I do like that thanks to Diana, we do get to learn a lot about Terapagos. Diana mentions that the form she saw in a book was much bigger—which is hinted at the existence of the Scarlet/Violet book. Terapagos was most definitely Lucius’s companion. Regardless, while a lot was given, there are still things we do not know about this turtle Pokemon. Terapagos seems to be familiar with Diana, yet she never knew it was inside the pendant. I guess Terapagos familiarizes with the wielder, even if it does not show up in front of them. Personality-wise, it is very cute and childlike. I find it amusing how Liko decides to carry Terapagos, Hatenna and Sprigatito all at once in different locations. There are going to be so many ‘Liko is swole AF’ memes once Terapagos’s official weight is revealed.

The Explorers are building up to be even bigger threats than before now. Spinel was easily the scariest of the admins during his stint. Now, Hamber is building up to be even scarier than him with the way his bangs reveal that the covered one has been open all the time while the uncovered one is purposely closed. His partner is a Dusknoir. He recruited the help of Onyx and Sango to pursue Terapagos. Onyx’s partner is Garganacl while Sango’s is Glalie, surprisingly. Spinel and Agate stated to be doing something in a lab, which is why they’re inactive. Amethio and his goons are back into the pendant search after he showed Hamber the video of Terapagos. I do hope we get backstories of why these guys are in the Explorers. I’d like to learn more about them.

Horizons really loves ending episodes with cliffhangers. I just hope nothing important is skipped over like how Episodes 22 and 23 did with 22 ending in a cliffhanger and 23 starting with Friede already out of the mine. If something like that happens again, I will riot. Anyways, what are your thoughts to this episode?

My personal thoughts on what SCP doctors and Explorers Admins are similar to each other. (I can't help but compare the Explorers to the SCP Foundation.)

Amethio: I think Dr. Gears would be the most similar to Amethio, they're both known as the stoic and expressionless members of their organizations. Except Gears takes it to a whole nother level. While Amethio can express his emotions sometimes, Gears can't. Gears is also way more ruthless than Amethio. And I'd also say Dr. Glass is kinda similar to him as they're both the most moral members of their respective organizations. There's also Dr. Ralph Roget, who got hired by the Foundation at 16 years old due to his family ties. His grandmother is literally the Site Director of Site-77 which I see as a parallel to Amethio having his grandfather as the boss of the Explorers. Roget also got falsely accused of treason by another member of the Foundation who wanted to take his grandmother's spot as Site Director. (Sounds familiar?) Though unlike Amethio, Ralph didn't get fired due to other Foundation members stepping in and stopping the rogue member.

Spinel: The Site-17 staff(except Lillian Marley and Liaison Marinos) would be the most similar to him, they're all evil just like him. Especially Director Graham and Dr. Byrnes, with both abusing humanoid SCPs. Spinel would probably be best friends with those guys.

Coral/Sango: Obviously Dr. Shaw, they're both the most chaotic members of their organizations and cause trouble for said organizations. Maybe they'd bond over their love of chaos.

Sidian/Onyx: He's also like Dr. Gears, stoic and serious. Though Sidian does show emotions sometimes unlike Gears.

Chalce/Agate: I'd say she's the most similar to Dr. Light, both are level-headed and mature figures. Dr. Light is also blunt like Chalce.

None of the Explorers seem to get along with each other, at least when one of them fails, they're just waiting to pick the failure apart. First Amethio has Spinel being condescending towards him for losing out on the pendant, now the other admins are getting their digs in on Spinel.

Curious tho how they'll be handled and the strategies they'll use to get the pendant. I really liked how Spinel initially hung back to gather information on the RVT and manipulated them, that made him super interesting to watch! I hope the others will be just as much fun 😁

In the absence of an episode this week, enjoy a small, silly little what-if scenario starring my favorite explorer.

Summary: Zirc knew that one day his secret would be discovered and he'd be maliciously mocked for being a Nidothing fan. He only wished it wasn't the worst possible admin that caught him.

What do you think Sango even does in terms of administration/executive duties? I mean, her temperament doesn’t seem like it would lend itself well to leadership duties and she doesn’t seem particularly patient, clever or reasonable enough to justify giving her an increase in prestige and/or salary. On a particularly bad day, she might end up making more work than Gibeon would do if she wasn’t there.

I'm not sure "Admin" means explicitly leadership or paperwork or so such, it might be a rank to refer to just her position in the organization and how much Gibeon trusts her. Why? That's for the show to tell us down the line, but.

She's probably done enough as a significant field operative and "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" specialist that she got promoted to the top of the organization.

So I don't think she does anything, she's in the relative C Suite for other reasons.

A lot of orgs like The Explorers and Team Rocket are basically inspired by Kamen Rider's SHOCKER or Goranger's Black Cross Army which were mostly disorganized far right paramilitary groups where their executives/admins had more or less autonomy and impunity to do whatever they want and relative black budget.

Sango/Coral and Onyx/Sidian probably are trusted due to prior competency and success and missions, as highly effective top ranking field operatives and boots on the ground who get shit done, regardless of Sango/Coral's bratty personality, that she got things done.

I suggest watching other Japanese media with evil orgs to get a feel of what I'm saying.

Liko called Spinel by name for the first time (both in the narration and in the episode). Friede also called him by name for the first time.

Amethio called Liko by her name without honorifics for the first time.

Amethio called his grandfather "Gibeon-sama" when he talked about him to Liko (but also referred to him as his grandfather).

Liko repeated Gibeon's name after Amethio brought it up ("Gibeon...").

Sango called Amethio "Ame-pyon" during the Explorers meeting at the end.
