That would be calling his parents ugly too because he takes the same physical traits as them. This is a joke post, but people tend to forget how much people respect his father Goodwyn and wouldn't call his son ugly because Cedric is seemingly "an extension of him that shares similar features except for being able to do magic as great as him". For being the best sorcerer the kingdom has ever had, of course they wouldn't insult Goodwyn's son's appearance. That's the man who saved the king 9 and a half times, no way they calling Cedric ugly.

But they would put down his son for not being as great as him. People want the next generation to be as great as the last, if not better. The societal pressure for Cedric to be as great as Goodwyn was too great for him to accomplish, making people hate him even more for his shortcomings.

It's even worse when Goodwyn could've defended his son and tried to raise him up to be as great as him, but he had a similar mentality that warped into him believing he was never going to be ready for the responsibilities of the family wand, merely accepting that he would always have to correct Cedric from his lack of faith in him.

That's what Goodwyn has going: he doesn't believe in Cedric. Sure, believing is only part of the process, and so him focusing his efforts to make Cedric improve without being confident in his abilities set Cedric up for failure from the very start.

Also, ugliness is commonly associated with evilness and immorality, as inaccurate as it really is. However, people were focused on him being incapable rather than being evil. Sure, the incident would've painted him in a bad light, but I believe the narrative shifted to him not being good at magic, which would've explained how even when Cedric apologizes for said incident, people hold his mistakes higher for it being caused by his carelessness and inability to do magic rather than a moral failing.

Point is, people just see Cedric as bad at magic rather than bad as a person, therefore never calling him ugly.

Ryuji having the worst bi crisis of his fucking life bc his mom just had to fucking ask “oh, whats this young ladys name?” when he showed her a picture of Akira petting Morgana. Like okay yeah Akira is like objectively pretty, hes like the Classic Delicate Pretty Boy just like Yusuke which is like whatever; straight dudes have eyes, and they know what women like to see. Pretty boy used to be A Face that would come up in his mind when he thought of the term. There was no specifics in mind, just like. Pretty Boy. Pretty boy! You say that and theres like a Face Template that shows up in ur minds eye and hed just attribute that to any dude who was like Vaguely Pretty. But now its Akira 😭 and he finds himself cataloging things that Akira does that he KNOWS he finds cute when girls do it. The hairtuck behind the ears. The headtilt when he mishears a question. The Actually Pretty Doe Eyes. The breathy, nearly inaudible chuckle he does in place of a Real laugh (thats made better by the fact that its so hard to get him to laugh in the first place). It drives him insane bc like he did Not see any of these things as like inherently girly or whatever. Like thats just akira thats just his bro! And he does OTHER weird shit that cancels all that shit out. Hes like a messy engineer/tinkerer, he rolls out of bed and whatever situation his hair is is everyones problem. He wears that AWFUL gym uniform and doesnt tweak it AT ALL?? He likes baseball?? hes got a whole binder of trading cards that he will show off if u show any moment of weakness. lord its so dark in here the sahara desert of tsaritsa content you are like a shining oasis. your characterisation of her compels me & mihoyo would be hard pressed to top it imo.!! caaaaan i humbly request yr thoughts on her first meeting w a reader of any kind, or maybe even multiple kinds (sagau, sagau god au, isekai, etc) if you so desire...

it really is like a desert here. being the fan of a character we aren't getting until the last damn nation is driving me up a wall but i will persevere bc if nothing else i support morally bankrupt women in media. we r in a severe drought over here but i do my best. unfortunately nothing i say is ever coherent so pull out your translation notes its abt 2 be messy

also this got out of hand but thats bc first meetings w the tsaritsa are tricky to write + a LOT of her characterization lies in deeper exploration then just surface level yknow...NOT A DIG AT YOU this is just my excuse for rambling. gently pats the tsaritsa she can hold so much complexity i do not have the word count to delve into it completely :]

gonna talk cult au for a bit here though because that's 99% of my content. and honestly? she thrives in sub au's of the cult au like villain au + imposter au. it's basically made for her. i mean, early days, the imposter au had been going around for a little while but one of the first few ideas was the Fatui taking reader in so like. it kinda technically actually was. pretty sure cult au Tsaritsa popped up because of the imposter au. a lot of it's writers kinda left though which. man am i getting old or.

anyway.

there isn't much of a chance her first impression is all that positive. at best it's usually neutral, imo, but rarely if ever positive. specifically because i view the Tsaritsa as someone who isn't as fanatical as most of the acolytes typically are towards the creator. she's not exactly going to worship the ground you walk on unlike a certain geo lizard. which is partially why i think she thrives in the sub au's i mentioned.

imposter au, for example. she meets you at your lowest. there's no gaudy extravagance or pampering from the acolytes waiting for you because your own acolytes have turned on you. for all intents and purposes you aren't a "god" at all. which is why i don't think she meshes well with normal cult au reader. the Fatui are made up of outcasts, basically, and imposter au slots right in just perfectly. you're weak, at your lowest, when you meet the Fatui in the imposter au. and the Fatui can help you, too.

a mutual exchange, really. the Tsaritsa sees a tool she can use to one up the rest of the nations and especially Archons, and she has no qualms about you using her and the Fatui in turn. you both want something out of it, after all. whether you just want to be safe from the rest of the acolytes, or you want revenge, or whatever else..she'll give you the power to fulfill it, and she gains the strongest piece on the chessboard when all is said and done.

the best way i can describe the first meeting is "practical", i suppose. she sees an opportunity in you. the ultimate gamble. because if she "saves" you, and you dont trust anyone else because they tried to kill you, well..she holds all the cards, doesn't she?

but the Tsaritsa, imo, is just as capable of being just as fanatical towards you as anyone else. she just won't worship you as the creator. but as yourself? clawing your way back to your divine power and taking back what belongs to you? the Tsaritsa is, to me, a character who's character flourishes in long-term fics more because she changes a LOT between "just met reader" and after having been with reader for some time. she's practically apathetic at the beginning but a lot of her character, in my characterization, shines through LONG after the first meeting.

I hate it when people use the term "friend zone" to describe Charles' response to Edwin's confession because it's just ridiculous and I don't think those people really understand the emotional bonding between them. When you "friend-zone" someone it usually turns out to be a rejection of developing a typical romantic relationship because "we can't be lovers because i just want us to remain as friends" so it's indicated here that romantic and platonic partnership can't exist at the same time, and this kind of statement is most likely to be negative and hurtful towards other's feeling. But when it comes to Charles' response it is nothing but a rejection, he literally promised Edwin he would try to sort his feelings out for him and it actually brought Edwin so much comfort. It 's more like "I don't know if we can be real lovers yet but nothing is gonna change the fact that I love you as a best friend and you will always be the most important person to me". Anyway I'm really feeling like the equation of Charles' response with a friend-zone behavior is disrespectful for both the boys cause their bonding is much more layered and richer than than.

Also in case anyone isn't truly aware of the problem here, George and Jayden had both stated in an interview that they don't think Charles had friend-zoned Edwin in the confession scene and also Edwin wasn't hurt by Charles' response.

thinking about what if ed lost weight while he was really sick and freaked out because being rib-countingly skinny made him feel like he was stuck back in his past with hornigold or smth, and stede suggests perhaps that he could not just help ed gain back the weight he lost, but, perhaps (even) a little extra, so it'd be harder for this situation to ever happen again. ed is very on board.

The overwhelming desire to write out extended blocks of Italian dialogue between the bros because it feels like a snapshot into their personal lives and it’s a lot of fun

vs. The knowledge that most readers will have to machine translate it and machine translations are always super awkward unless the original sentences are spoken absolutely textbook perfect (i.e. horrendously awkward-sounding irl)

vs. The acknowledgement that I’m probably not getting it right half the time either because I Frankenstein these sentences together based on prior knowledge, context, and conjugation, so then we’re ALL confused
