I wonder like what does Yves like to eat? Does he prefer sweet foods? Savory? Salty? Etc?
I could also imagine that he would change his darlings food cravings and wants with his reality bending if they are lacking a certain vitamin or mineral.
TW: eating disorders, gore and nasty horrible rich people stuff like making people their toilets or something, sexual harassment and human trafficking
He has expensive taste, the palate of a stereotypical rich person. It doesn't matter if the dish is sweet or savory, it must be made from scratch from the freshest produce the market can offer. He prefers to eat his own cooking as he can easily control what goes into it.
Yves has an intense aversion to strong-tasting foods, not because he can't handle the pungent aroma of garlic or other spices; he used to eat boxes upon boxes of takeout, fast food, and convenience meals.
It's because he associated them with the decades he spent struggling to find his footing in this world. They were cheap, accessible, and definitely not something he would willingly put in his body despite knowing it probably wouldn't affect him greatly in any way now.
Foods that are greasy, overly salty, processed to unrecognizable heights, and contain a barrel's worth of sugar are foods that Yves has a strong disdain for. He very much prefers eating foods that are steamed, boiled, or baked with minimal amounts of oil, salt, and sugar. His cooking is definitely still flavourful, it's mostly simple but it has a quality that makes it lavish and 'clean'.
Yves wasn't always like this though. Just like most humans, he started off hating his vegetables and fruits, yearning for junk and other vices. His previous cravings are only exacerbated by the stressful life that he lived, to no one's surprise, he wasn't always in the best shape. Or the best state of mind.
He knows what it was like to live in a severely unhealthy body on both ends of the spectrum. Yves was both a hundred pounds overweight and a hundred pounds underweight, neither phase was fun at all and it just made his life much harder than it was supposed to be.
Yves sobbed hysterically when he failed to stop himself from eating an entire 5-pound chocolate cake to cope with his emotions, then promptly threw up everything afterward on the dingy floor of his dilapidated rental. He was too familiar with the feeling of his two fingers pushing his uvula as deep as he could so he could empty his stomach into the toilet bowl, to the point that the off-white ceramic was painted red. Yves knew what half-eaten hamburgers covered in god-knows-what, found in dumpsters taste like. He knew what ingredient in candies to look for that aided him in vomiting, he tried all the slimming teas, laxatives, and enemas. Yves had his favorite brands.
Yves vividly remembers how he would be out of breath just by standing up, how his joints felt like it was about to give out at any moment. The bruises he received from merely sitting on certain types of chairs, the horrible chafing that led to nasty, debilitating infections because he didn't have the means to receive medical attention, the humiliation, and degradation, painful and permanent swellings, the increased frequency of sexual groping that usually led to something much worse, overheating in a flesh suit that he cannot just remove, the cruel loneliness, the desperation for food when he doesn't even have a single cent left to his name, his reflection and more revolting memories.
He remembers all of it. He remembers the broken bones that were forced to heal on their own, bleeding orifices leaking with excrement due to his abuse of weight-losing drugs, articles of clothing ruined by his own feces and vomit, the obsession over the number on his scale, the shivering even at scorching temperatures, locks of his hair clogging the drain, fainting spells that cost him his meager wages for the week, the taste of his own stomach acid still lingers on his tongue, his "friends" who were equally as ghoulish calling Yves a fat pig and incessantly oinking at him for finishing a whole apple by himself, being unable to chew properly because his teeth were eroded, being unable to fight back because he was just that weak, fingers that looked like it belonged to a rotting corpse, his reflection, the hunger, the hunger, the hunger...
And in both chapters of his life, one thing stayed constant. The infamous, deep-fried, saturated, tastebud-abusing slop served to the disadvantaged masses.
So please do forgive him when he gives you a blank look for an uncomfortable while when you eat a crispy fried chicken leg in front of him. He didn't mean to give the plate of french fries on the table a long, dull stare before digging in like any other normal person; with a lot more elegance. Yves just had a few memories pass through his mind, that's it.
Not to say that he will act like it's the end of the world to eat the food that he hates. You wouldn't know that he despised them unless he told you, Yves would have eaten it without complaint and hesitation, expressing his gratitude to you for getting these for him. He doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve, after all.
Yves understands that his experience doesn't necessarily reflect yours, he has no issue with you eating garbage foods in moderation. You will have cravings, it's simply something humans like you have to deal with. He will still agree to have a date or two at a fast-food joint even if he detests the griminess and classlessness of it all, as long as it makes you happy to see him 'enjoying' himself too. Of course, he would attempt and succeed at making healthier alternatives at home.
If you're craving something that is missing many of the key nutrients but it's not harmful to your health, he would fortify it with the needed vitamins or minerals. You couldn't even tell the difference, but your body will.
He will have a massive problem if you exhibit the same symptoms his younger self had. Yves will plant his foot firmly on the ground, he wouldn't even talk to you about it. He goes straight to rewiring your brain without even thinking if Yves noticed your struggles. You would find yourself one day 'cured' of whatever complex you had with food, baffled but grateful, brushing it off as something trivial although it is anything but.
You might notice that the fridge always has at least one tin of sturgeon caviar on a block of ice. You deduced that his favorite food is caviar, but you might not truly know why.
He isn't stingy with it. Yves told you that you are welcome to eat as much as you want (within reason, it has a ridiculously high sodium content). Whether you like eating it or not, it was astonishing that he could replace it as soon as it's finished despite needing to pay an exorbitant amount for a container the size of your palm.
And he associated that overpriced spoonful of fish eggs with the dawn of a new era and the end of his horror-filled years. His life wasn't perfect when he first tried it, far from it actually. He still gets assaulted, spat on, molested, and insulted straight to his face, more so due to his new career as a budding fashion model. But it was a change, an overall positive change.
Despite first trying it at a mansion owned by a syndicate of influential Oligarchs who hire conventionally beautiful people and commit unspeakable acts against them, caviar became a symbol of hope. Yves, disheveled, drugged beyond belief, and covered in bruises, cuts, and disgusting fluids, managed to slip out of the room where the torture happened. His own disorganized thoughts drowned out the screams of his colleagues and the cheers of the rich, Yves was on a mission.
He somehow maneuvered his way through the hallways without being detected by staff or other members, finding his way to one of the private chambers. It was occupied an hour ago, as shown by the mildly displaced chairs and empty crystal glasses.
Even under the influence of substances, his first instinct wasn't necessarily to run away. It was to rob them of everything they had, watches, jewelry, shoes, bags- anything he could get his sticky hands on. God, he so badly wanted to own their wardrobe. The rings looked dazzling on his fingers, and the purses fit right around his arm.
Then his bloodshot, dilated eyes landed on the glass table.
An open bottle of champagne half filled; in Yves's eyes, half-empty. A tray with something he only heard of, but never seen. A tin filled with numerous, tiny black spheres accompanied by a plate of Blinis and an intricate bowl of creme fraiche, and a couple of lemon wedges.
His hands trembled as he stumbled towards the glistening set. These are what the rich and powerful eat. He thought to himself. Yves didn't understand the fondness towards these. Tastewise, he didn't find anything particularly exciting or great. Statuswise...
For a minute, just a mere minute, Yves felt like he was at the top of the world. Yves ate what his 'masters' ate.
It didn't matter that he got caught after, it didn't matter he was made an example of by being urinated in front of an audience, beaten unconscious, and had a skull fracture. For a moment, he was their equal. And this will be the last time he will be disrespected to this level.
He escaped with enough stolen goods to buy his way out of his hell.
And he stole a coveted tin of caviar for himself.

I’m so glad that you had a lovely time in Tokyo!! Bring me in your suitcase next time? /j <3
What’s your advice for travelling on your own???
This is probably going to be a long one, so I apologize in advance 😅 Here's some advice that has helped me on my solo trips to Korea and Japan:
• Do research on where you're going. See what's allowed in the country (especially if you're bringing medications). Read up on other people's travel experiences in that country. Know what kind of transportation you'll need to use there and how to access it (trains, buses, taxis, rental cars). Make sure you have a bit of an idea of what to expect when you get there, so culture shock won't hit you hard.
• Have foreign currency *before* you leave. Chances are you'll need it as soon as you land at your destination.
• Make sure you have a power adapter/wall charger in case they have different outlets. A back up phone charger and pocket wifi is also a must!
• Find points of interest that you might enjoy visiting and make a private Google map with all those places marked. Then if you're in an area that happens to have a lot of your interests in it, you can tackle them all at once. This was my map for Tokyo! I made two separate lists; one for places I wanted to visit, and one for restaurants I wanted to try.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I didn't get to visit all of these because my trip was only 5 days. But it gave me a good idea of areas I could go to hit multiple points of interest!
• Make sure all your legal documents are valid. Passports, visas, licenses, etc. Make sure you know what documents you need to enter that country. Also bring a photocopy of those documents just in case something happens to the original.
• Get travel insurance. It's cheap and easy to get. And if something goes wrong, you'll be completely covered to be flown back home.
• Do what you can to keep yourself safe. You can buy personal safety items or read up on self defensive measures to take while traveling. I have this little siren doorstop, so if anyone tries to come into my hotel room, it not only blocks the door from opening but also emits a 120db siren to scare anyone off.
Tumblr media
And it works *very well*. I nearly deafened myself when testing it XD
• Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Tourists are easy targets for pickpockets because we're so distracted by everything (especially in big, tourist heavy cities).
• Never tell anyone that you're traveling alone. Book your hotel room for 2 people (its the same price as single rooms anyway). And give your hotel info to someone back home that you trust so they can know where you'll be.
• Trust your gut instinct too. If you're getting bad vibes off someone, just walk away and distance yourself from them.
• Don't be afraid to try new things! New foods, music, dancing, shows, festivals, etc. Just get out there and see things you've never seen before!
• This is kinda a personal preference one, but *avoid* tourist spots. So many people line up to take the same pics in the same tourist trap locations, waiting hours just for nothing. Instead, speak to locals and do things they recommend! Or just wander around and see what you stumble across. Touristy areas tend to have more expensive prices for everything anyway, so you'll save money going elsewhere! XD
• Allow your plans to change based on what you personally feel like doing in that moment. Don't force yourself to stick to a travel itinerary.
• Bring snacks just in case your tum craves something familiar. I usually stick to granola bars or Biscoffs since they last a while.
• If you're going somewhere that has a different language, learn the basics in that language. Knowing how to say "hello", "yes", "no", and "thank you" will help you so much! And locals tend to love seeing tourists put an effort into trying to communicate with them in their language.
• Also be patient. There will be times when there will be confusion between you and other people. That's just what happens when two different cultures meet. But don't get mad. Try calmly working thru the confusion and see if you can figure something out.
• On that same note, BE KIND. You are a guest in someone else's home. You have no right to demand things to be a specific way. Respect their rules, even if it doesn't make sense to you. Be grateful that you have this amazing opportunity that so many others may never have.
Solo traveling can be pretty intimidating. But if you plan and prepare everything well before you leave, your trip will be so much more enjoyable!
Let me know if you have any other questions about solo traveling! I want you guys to have safe and fun trips too!! ^^

okay I just got back from a trip to the US and I have thoughts:
why is the water level in the toilet bowl so high?? I accidentally dipped my hand in twice during my two weeks there and believe me it was twice too many!!
christ your groceries are expensive compared to here?? maybe it's because I exclusively go to aldi/lidl (which are cheap here) and I hadn't worked out what the equivalent in the states is but like, hannaford and trader joe's seemed a lot more expensive (based on my rough estimations of exchange rates and sales tax)
oh yeah the sales tax not being included on the price of the thing is strange to me also but I kinda knew that was a thing already
I occasionally see memes about like US public toilet cubicles being poorly constructed, with gaps, etc, and living in the UK I did kinda relate to them, but actually going over there I can confirm that the US gaps are bigger and the amount of panel you have is significantly less. like I can maybe squeeze my head under a uk toilet cubicle but I could fairly easily completely shimmy under a US one
okay this one is probably because of the state we were in and I'm sure it's not universal but like, the amount of pride flags I saw flying?? the amount of progressive pride flags?? the amount of "trans people are welcome here" signs and "we respect trans people" posters?? Active trans specific inclusion in *government buildings* right there for everyone to see, and not a single one (that I saw) defaced or torn down? in the uk you're lucky to get trans positive stickers on streetlamps (and even then a lot of them get defaced/torn off soon after going up) and specific LGBTQIA+ businesses might fly flags or put up posters, but in the US, even in the small towns we visited, a bunch of private houses and not specifically queer businesses had pride flags and posters up (again I'm sure this is different in other states but coming from the uk it was a breath of fresh air). oh and also we went to a farmers market in a tiny town and someone running one of the stalls was like "how's it going guys?" and then was immediately like "ah wait is it okay that I say guys? I don't want to misgender anyone" and like, that has never happened to me in the uk and I struggle to even imagine it happening outside of specifically queer settings
oven pizzas!! honestly the oven pizzas we had while there were better than 99% of UK pizzas (I'm including UK oven pizzas, restaurant pizzas, and takeout pizzas), idk what goes in them that's different to the uk but they were So Good
vanilla ben and jerrys??????? we get some B&J flavours in the uk but they're generally expensive compared to other ice cream and there might be 1-3 flavours to choose from in stores that stock it. we saw a whole freezer dedicated to B&J ice cream, in the entire aisle dedicated just to ice cream. anyway, I thought B&J only did fancy flavours so seeing the plain vanilla there was cool
also my lactose intolerance seemed to go on holiday during the trip?? like is american dairy just different? I had cheesecake and ice cream and incredibly cheesey pizzas and cheese toasties and had like 0 ill side effects. As soon as I got back to the uk I went "well I must be cured" and drank a yoghurt drink and Let Me Tell You That Was A Mistake
cars are B I G. we got off the plane and went to the car rental place and all the trucks and vans and stuff were just completely towering over me. It's like someone took a uk truck and expanded it to like 1.5x size. I felt kinda like I was a child again just with the height difference
gas stations!! we stopped off at gas stations and I was expecting like a lil selection of packaged sandwiches and bottled drinks but like, there were salads and sushi and wraps and sandwiches and then an entire hot food counter doing pizzas and hot wraps and there were pastries and several different types of filter coffee and teas and then An Entire Beer Cave?? (side note: alcoholic arizona ice tea?? holy shit??). apparently gas stations are some of the best places to buy booze, which I was not expecting?
I had a super great time while there and everyone was so friendly ^_^ but if someone could tell me why the toilet bowls are like that I'd appreciate it D:

There's a place near me that's meant to be a sort of area Community Development Project. One of the services it provides is helping people from the local socioeconomically impoverished area with a little financial aid for education, whether this takes the form of helping with materials, or unforeseen expenses like your kids having a growth spurt and needing new shoes mid term. New election. Not only did it get its funding completely cut, it also slashed its staff down to two, those staff deal with disability supports mainly. The council claimed nobody was using the service (not true) so the people of the area obv didnt need any help. (again, untrue) Most people in the area can't imagine going to further education because of the expense// barriers. They don't know about places like I mentioned above, they don't know about the grants that are out there, the scholarships you can get if you work your ass off, the laptop loan schemes within the educational institutions. Even with this help, you're still living hand to mouth, the places in the free creche are snapped up, so childcare needs to be paid for n on their meager funds they can't afford to go. Rather than the council look into why people arent availing of these schemes, (we know the real reason why the council isn't) theyd rather cut the funding entirely n have the ones who are using the schemes on offer to suffer. They cut rental assistance -- you'd get a stipend n you'd pay your landlord yourself with the cash -- in favour of a different scheme that relies heavily on landlords registering with an overseeing body. Being how most of them are tax dodgers and the rest dont want to their houses being inspected to see if they meet the minimum housing standards, which ALOT of them don't, there are very few places available. They refuse to accept the scheme payment, or wont rent to people who ask if they accept it. This refusal is supposed to be illegal, and the number of cases that make it to court is no way a fair representation of whats actually going on, being most people are scared to lose their homes in an already impossible housing market. This scheme is the only way anyone on welfare or low wages can afford to rent. You heard me right... people working full time jobs are having to avail of these renting schemes meant for people on welfare because they can't afford rent. Soup kitchens are overwhelmed by the amount of people using them, people on welfare, people working full time jobs, meaning those at most risk, like the homeless etc go w/o food. People who want to pay their own way cant fucking afford to. Rent, groceries and amenities are out stripping the minimum wage!! Two income households are struggling! They are being forced to use services not meant for or equipped to deal with that strain. Even two parent households have to chose between who goes to work n who stays at home to take care of the kids, cause having a second job would essentially put them in debt. People like Steamboat Jimmy really need to read that last part. Alot of companies are ableist and wont employ disabled people. Being disabled does not come cheap either, and they can't afford that desperately needed mobility aid that would make things in their life a damn sight easier. My mother, god rest her soul, became a drug addict as the drugs provided pain relief just enough so she could move somewhat. All that misery the drugs caused could have been avoided if support had been provided. She didnt want to be a drug addict, but she was sucked into a vicious cycle with no way out. This caught up to her eventually n she died in her 50's. Mental health and lack of supports play a huge role in homeless, and addiction spikes.
A single mom on social welfare, a homeless person, or junkie is not Steamboat Jimmy's enemy. Its the governments, big corporations and predatory business practices of hiking fucking prices whilst bragging about record profits for 5 years in a fucking row, and paying their board members ludicrous bonuses! Its airbnb property moguls hording houses, its vulture funds sitting on housing, creating the illusion of scarcity n drip feeding them unit by unit into the market at astronomically inflated prices. Its insurance companies with grossly inflated premiums, its subscription services bleeding you dry to use things you already fucking own. Its not taxing corporations and billionaires!! Nobody wants to be homeless, nobody wants to have to choose between keeping a roof over their head or groceries. Most people are just one bad day away from catastrophic disaster. Most households don't have enough in the bank to weather it.

Maximize Your Travel Experience: A Complete Guide to Hiring a Car in Dubai
Tumblr media
Why You Should Rent a Car in Dubai
One of the main reasons why visitors and residents choose to rent a car Dubai is the city’s extensive and modern road network. Dubai boasts one of the best infrastructures in the world, with wide highways, clearly marked roads, and seamless connectivity between key locations. This makes driving in the city not just a necessity but also a pleasure.
Tumblr media
Advantages for Renting a Car in Dubai Convenience: Convenience is among the major advantages of hiring a car in Dubai among many and this is explained as follows; In contrast to public transport, both of which have time restrictions and lack of flexibility as to the routes to be followed, a rental car ensures that you have total control over your movements’ duration and routes. This means that one can go wherever he or she wishes at anytime without necessarily having to book for a taxi or wait for a bus.
Cost-Efficiency: First, one might be tempted to think that getting car rental services in Dubai is very expensive in comparison to using public transport. But when it comes to certain aspects such as price, time, and comfort then it is rather affordable. Transport costs especially when employing taxis are somewhat costly in Dubai particularly when traveling long distances. This goes back to the fact that a rental car is cheaper to use than a taxi or any other transport if you will be traveling around the city and nearby regions for several times.

There are slower zones depending on whether you are on the urban, municipal or rural roads hence the need to obey d signs. It is a compulsory requirement to wear seat belts while the driving of cars is strictly prohibited for people who are under the influence of alcohol.
Car parking services are rather numerous in Dubai; along with that, most of the shopping malls and attractions situated in the city offer free parking for several hours. It may be free to park on the streets but if one decides to park in the central business district or the residentials areas, then one may be charged.
Cost of Hiring a Car in Dubai
The cost of hire a car in Dubai varies depending on several factors, such as the type of vehicle, rental duration, and season. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from AED 100 to AED 300 per day for an economy car. Luxury vehicles or SUVs can cost significantly more, often ranging from AED 500 to AED 1,500 per day.

WHAT ARE REN’S MONTHLY EXPENSES?
the basics include rent, food, clothes, repairs, utilities including cable / internet / cellphone service. he pays for four, eventually five, cell phones — two are for him (work and personal), the third is for his mother, the fourth is hina’s, and the fifth will be kyosuke’s. bus and train passes are bought in monthly increments which saves him money.
ren is very frugal, and shops cheap in all areas he can afford to do so.
his mother: physical therapy is not free, though many services in the health industry are as there is universal healthcare in japan, so there are a lot of expenses that ren could have in america that he luckily does not have to have in japan. this does not mean there are no costs, just less than what would be anticipated as someone from the united states might.
kyosuke’s expenses: food, toys, travel between his home and hina’s, in-home childcare eventual expenses for school such as uniforms, money for lunch, afterschool activities and trips, going to the arcade, going out with friends, etc.
hina’s expenses: whenever hina needs money, she asks ren. her phone, clothes, bills, whatever she can’t or just won’t pay for herself is in ren’s monthly budget.
work expenses: being a profitable host isn’t cheap, and in some cases neither is being a desirable escort, and eventually these costs transfer over to being a rental boyfriend, too. clothes, makeup, manicures, hair cuts and colors, waxing, colognes, travel … the overall upkeep that goes into relying on one’s appearance for their job is what is in ren’s wheelhouse of necessary evils.
a mixture of these expenses, including getting him off the ground to being a ‘desirable host’, are what got him into debt with goro. when escorting, doing a few amateur films, and hosting wasn’t supplying, goro was (and still is) funding. this is partially good, though mostly bad for ren. good in that he could get the consistent funds to supply the lifestyle he has now, even if it’s just barely breaking even some months, but also has him indebted to goro. i’ve mentioned his debt is well around, if not over, 100k USD. without goro, ren might not have lasted as long as a host, and would have gone further down the escorting rabbit hole than he already is, and he’s in pretty deep.
his monthly expenses are roughly well into the 5-6k range, which is a lot for a single parent / single son.
“ prices will vary depending on where you want to live. tokyo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. … most landlords won’t even rent to you unless you can prove you make three times the cost of rent per month. prices drop once apartments get more than ten minutes away from a station.”
his location in tokyo is what saves him a bit of rent expenses, but he has to make up for those costs in travel, which really aren’t that bad. he doesn’t have a car, but he can drive. ren lives in the red-light district and works heavily in the heart of it (kabukicho).

Or, in other countries... if you want your cheap deliveries your fastfood your hawkers and small shops etc... the rental shouldn't be killing the business, and the government controlled housing shouldn't be so expensive that just getting a place will wipe out your retirement savings. And it should not be just about obligatory to live with family. Don't get me wrong, it works well when it works, but for all except the wealthiest, its' very often live w/ family or marry or both... sometimes with three generations or more in a flat built to accommodate 3 or 4. To say nothing of the risk of abuse, because you can't afford to move out if you need to.
I feel like a good shorthand for a lot of economics arguments is "if you want people to work minimum wage jobs in your city, you need to allow minimum wage apartments for them to live in."
"This jobs are just for teenagers on the weekends." Okay, so you'll use minimum wage services only on the weekends and after school. No McDonald's or Starbucks on your lunch break.
"They can get a roommate." For a one bedroom? A roommate for a one bedroom? Or a studio? Do you have a roommate to get a middle-wage apartment for your middle-wage job? No? Why should they?
"They can live farther from city center and just commute." Are there ways for them to commute that don't equate to that rent? Living in an outer borough might work in NYC, where it's a flat rate, but a city in Texas requires a car. Does the money saved in rent equal the money spent on the car loan, the insurance, the gas? Remember, if you want people to take the bus or a bike, the bus needs to be reliable and the bike lanes survivable.
If you want minimum wage workers to be around for you to rely on, then those minimum wage workers need a place to stay.
You either raise the minimum wage, or you drop the rent. There's only so long you can keep rents high and wages low before your workforce leaves for cheaper pastures.
"Nobody wants to work anymore" doesn't hold water if the reason nobody applies is because the commute is impossible at the wage you provide.

My comment
Great practical information… Can I add a few notes?
If you are moving into a new area, very important to go around to the neighboring houses, give a formal introduction and bring a gift (there are certain protocols of what is appropriate gift)
What seems like "basic things" are really a big deal in Japanese neighborhoods like: the protocols for sorting trash and recycling, attendance and participation in community cleanup projects, contributions to festivals and other activities
If you're not familiar with Japanese language and culture, very important to start your Japan life in a slightly more populated but smaller city… I'm a big fan of the "Minor provincial cities" which are big enough to have transportation links, immigration offices (you'll thank me for this later), and for foreigners not being a big shock but, not being so common that you can get away with being in a "foreigner bubble" once you get some language skills, some cultural understanding and decide which area of the magnificent archipelago really appeals to you, you can take your time to find your perfect place
About the very important point of "hiring local staff to manage your short term rental" keep in mind there's not a glut of young eager easily employable population in Japan. Especially in areas outside of the "big three"and these people are expecting a proper job not a casual side hustle for the most part
Regarding transportation link: the cheaper the house the more likely it is to be away from train and bus routes and if the house is located in a city, does not necessarily include parking spaces. and drivers license transition is a complicated situation in some cases depending on where you're coming from. Can take months to do it and several times going through tests. Also car ownership is a little bit of a different situation with mandatory "inspections" which are not just cheap and cheerful but rather expensive and comprehensive tests for cars over 10 years old.
So, having access to bus service or train service is critical for taking care of the logistics of life (shopping, post office, etc.) Postal Service and shipping is fantastic but the farther away you are from centers, of course the more complicated this gets
Also, if you're moving from abroad with kids, it is possible but my goodness, there's a lot of parental participation in schools and, aside from a few very distinct areas (places with factories employing a lot of foreign workers and some core areas of Tokyo/Kyoto) Your child will likely be the only international in the school which is conducted entirely in Japanese obviously. There are international schools but those are centered in certain cities and extremely expensive and cure to high wealth individuals and/or children of diplomats, executive foreign workers and so on
The idea of "swoop in" buying a bunch of cheap properties and expecting they will just go up in value naturally is full hardy. If your property is left with weeds growing, and maintain, you quickly realize the problems with mold/mildew, rot, bamboo growing through floors (seriously) and all kinds of pests settling into your country house. The older houses are all made of natural materials, and are designed to "breathe" and do not have a poured concrete foundation… All these means that the houses require all kinds of maintenance and simply to be lived in in order to be kept up.
Final note: in many cases, vacant/abandoned houses are sold with "all the previous owners stuff/crap "left inside and, disposal/dumping is complicated and can be rather expensive as well as a huge project. You might think you'll come across some great antique treasures, you're gonna be cleaning out junk – so again, if this is your first house purchase in Japan, you're probably better off buying a "ready to go" house (which still can be obtained a very reasonable price compared to many other countries) in a delightful smaller city and living for a spell to see if this is for you.
I have more to say about visas but I've already said too much for now :-)

is it hard to get a job in london? I really want to take up the youth mobility scheme visa but now im scared of not finding a place to live or not having a stable job
based on my own personal experience, it’s so fucking hard to find a job and place to live. however, i’ve also known others who had no issue at all! imo, it’s very much down to luck and timing lol. last year i stayed with a friend at first and was able to find sublets after that without too much trouble, then i also found a casual job and was able to get 3-4 days a week for a couple months (bc i flew back to Australia for a bit after that so that’s all i wanted as in was still living off savings and travelling etc). so last year was good!!this year however…..I don’t like where i live but had no choice at the time. finding a job has been HARD and it was job rejection after job rejection but i managed to get more days working the same casual job as last year and find another part time job so it’s been picking up!
don’t want to discourage you at all because even though I’ve been incredibly stressed about money and where I’m leaving at times, I’ve also been having the time of my life and Do Not regret my choices at all! i think it’s important to go into it with a plan and already start looking before you move as well, like make a list of job agencies and job boards, plus rental sites and join all the Facebook groups. honestly, there’s soooo many people here on a visa like everywhere you look there’s an Aussie or a kiwi.
it definitely wasn’t an easy decision to make to make the move here, nor was it a cheap one, but one thing i wish i did beforehand was plan more and look into more about renting and jobs etc. i knew it was gonna be expensive but rental prices are INSANEEEE compared to back home, and without full time work or a uk guarantor i can really only sublet so that’s another hurdle. with jobs, I’ve had to take a huuuuge salary decrease but that could also just be a me thing since i had a good salary before lol. ANYWAy
feeel free to ask me anything you want about it too!! now that I’ve done it I can share the dos and don’ts and whatever else

How to save money on a weekend gateway?
If you want to save money on the next short trip, here is the key. Planning weekend gateways does not have to be expensive. There are several ways to reduce or cut the costs. Or example, you can search for a last-minute car rental for an unexpected price.
You may get one cheap if you want it for the odd hours.  Alternatively, booking flights for the least traffic hours may fetch you an affordable deal.  The blog lists other quick ways to save money on your next weekend gateway.
.
7 Ways to have a budget-friendly weekend trip
Sometimes, you can’t delay the much-needed weekend trip. If a lot is going on in your life, a refreshing holiday may help. Alongside self-healing, it should be purse-friendly. Here are some tips to save money and make it worthwhile:
1)      Look for cheap staycations
Booking a place to stay at the last minute may prove the best deal. Well, yes, it is ideal to ensure accommodation bookings early, but sometimes it’s fun. What if you can fetch one without spending more? It is particularly possible if you plan to stay in a private holiday setting in the UK. Contact the company and check whether they are eager for a discount. In exchange, you can send the advance payment to seal the booking.
2)      Only use carry or handbag
Checking in with luggage is costly and time-consuming. You can avoid it at all by just packing a handbag. If going for a day or two, you don’t need much luggage. If you must, you may carry small bags that are easy to keep. Not to mention, the airline can even delay the luggage. Thus, check the convenience and the money it may cost you to pay extra for additional luggage. It will help you carry accordingly.
3)      Drive your car
What could be better than using your car to drive away the weekend? It will save you on car rental space, additional maintenance charges (if you must) or extended miles costs.  Analyse the repairs and prepare your car. Re-fuel your car and check the licenses.
If your car needs repairs, contact experts. Earning individuals above 18 generally prefer cars over everything. It makes the journey comfortable and fun with friends.  If earning but waiting for the pay, don’t worry.
Tumblr media
Some repairs should not wait. Thus, check the best quick cash facility for good or bad credit history. You may get no guarantor loans for bad credit UK marketplace. It helps you get instant finance up to £10000 without a third-party guarantee. It is ideal for individuals with consistent income and a decent credit history.
4)      Book a package instead of paying separately
It is one of the best ways to save a whopping sum. It will help you get access to everything without wasting time. Moreover, booking accommodations, transport, tickets, etc., separately may ruin your budget.
Explore the best packages online and get one from an authentic platform. However, sometimes, you may find a hotel too small to adjust. You would not like to eat everything or the menu provided. You can hire a car in that case and explore the place.
5)      Check flexibility to move your weekend a bit
If you have a flexible workplace and you can re-schedule your work, it may help. You then can adjust the weekend or extend it to the weekdays. Doing so will help you save on flight costs, carrier costs, accommodation bookings, etc.
Moreover, with low-traffic days, you may fetch tickets to your favourite tourist spots cheaply. You need to research this a bit before packing bags. Midweeks are the best to plan an affordable gateway. Explore the possibilities of the same.
6)      Check out city pass availability
If you plan to explore the destination fully, check the city pass. You may check the availability online on the city’s portal. Apply for one. It will save you from constant transportation costs. Additionally, the pass covers some major attractions in the city.  You may also utilise the same in some restaurants and bars.
However, a city pass is to cover multiple sightseeing spots or tourist places. If visiting someone or want to explore just 1-2 places, drop the idea.
7)      Plan some walking tours
Explore the places that you can visit in a single go. Some places or tourist spots lie just within walking distance. Walking is good for your health and helps you save on transportation costs. Additionally, mark the ones that are near your accommodation first.
Check whether it is something that meets your bucket list. If yes, what could be better than saving money alongside exploring the dream spot? Additionally, walking tours grant you a peep into the local’s lives and know life better.
Bottom line
If heading towards a weekend gateway, these tips may help. It will help you plan one on budget. Usually one overspends on such trips. It is the reason most individuals avoid small trips. However, if you can’t skip the plan, analyse your budget. Check the scope for cheap tickets, accommodations, car rental, etc. A little preparation before boarding the flight may help you. It could prove budget-savvy.

I've never been to Boston and the primary reason for that is. Where the fuck is your cheap housing. Like every other city I've booked rentals in, there's the expensive one-bedrooms and then there's like someone's studio basement or some shit that is cheaper. Converted sheds, attics, trailers in someone's backyard, etc. Non-optimal but more affordable. Boston appears to have nothing in that category. Like you guys only seem to have the nice shit I can't afford. Not that the shittier places are also too expensive, which is how California is, but that you don't appear to have those places at all. What the hell.

Tourist guide to USA: 5 things to know before you visit the USA
Tumblr media
The United States has various wonders and cosmopolitan cities that fascinate people from across the globe. Whether it is about exploring jungles, enjoying a beachside, or taking a trip to deserts, mountains, etc., the USA offers it all. This is the reason that every year, travellers from across the globe look for the best USA travel tips before planning a trip. There are many things to keep in mind before taking a flight to the USA, such as:
1. Having a tourist visa, or ESTA, to step into the USA
The first important thing to do before entering the USA is to complete all the requirements. As of today, citizens of only 39 countries can enter the US for around 90 days without a visa under the ESTA. Others need to have a US tourist visa or a B-2 visa. This is more expensive than the ESTA.
2. Plan your USA itinerary carefully.
No wonder the USA is massive, and every tourist guide to USA should plan their itinerary carefully. There are certain factors to consider before finalizing anything, like the staying time, what to explore, which cities to visit, whether road-tripping is an option or not, cost, accommodation, eateries, best hikes, etc. All of these things should be included in your itinerary so that you end up feeling confused and miserable.
3. Opt for a road trip.
The US cities are located far from each other, and in between come stunning places to explore. In this case, you can opt for road trips in the USA. If you are travelling alone, then you can get the best solo road trip ideas in the USA. You can explore new cities, rural areas, etc. Also, if you cannot rent a car, then get on a bus or train for road trips. But to explore major cities in the US, like Miami, Houston, LA, etc., via road, renting a car becomes an important aspect. Also, renting a car in the US can only be done if you have an international driving permit that states you are a legal driver.
4. Avoid travelling without travel insurance.
There are issues, like the inefficient and costly medical system in the US. This is the reason why, before travelling to the US, it is essential to have travel insurance. It will provide you with medical coverage during your US trip. Also, it is beneficial if your insurance includes trip cancellation coverage if there are any flight cancellations or uneven events. It will allow you to be on the safer side and avoid having any medical issues while travelling to the US with your family or alone.
5. Try to book domestic flights separately from international flights.
If you are wondering how to travel the United States cheap, then it is better to book domestic flights separate from international flights. Travelling between distant cities in the US can be cumbersome, and flights are the most common option. However, while booking domestic flights with international flights, airlines can add a premium to them. However, if you book them separately, you will be able to save some money and will have more options in every airline alliance. Also, try to find a cheap flight and see if it offers any cash back on hotels, car rentals, etc.
Conclusion No wonder there are many best states to visit in the USA, but planning a trip can work in your favour. With the things mentioned above, you will be able to travel to the USA with ease and without facing any major travel problems. However, to read such interesting USA travel blogs.

How to Travel Cheap: 9 Tips to Travel on a Budget
Tumblr media
It's not necessary to spend a lot of money to travel. In fact, if you follow our tried-tips to travel cheap or budget you will be able to go on longer trips while doing less financial harm to your savings account. Get Portugal Schengen Visa Appointment
There are several things you can do to keep your travel expenses to a minimum from utilizing VPNs to find the discounted flights and looking for the lowest ATM fees. The best part is that you can achieve all of this without compromising on your trip’s quality.
The more wisely you spend, the more destinations you'll eventually get to travel to. That's what we're all after here, right?
So, if you're seeking tips to travel Cheap or budget you have come to the perfect place. It's time for you to discover exactly how to get the most value possible from even the most constrained budgets.
Travel Preparation
According to what they say, failing to plan is planning to fail. You may save some money before you pack your luggage and leave by paying attention to a few sensible tips and tricks. You may save a lot of money over time by planning carefully and booking your trips smartly.
Let's Begin with the Pro Tips
Find Cheap Destinations That Fit Your Budget by Researching Thoroughly
Even though it might seem obvious, this is probably the most important piece of advice for organizing a budget holiday. For a budget trip you need to have realistic expectations which means trying something different and opting for off-beat destinations.
Destinations like Spain and Paris will always be in trend but if you want to travel in budget tick them off your list. You can travel to places like Portugal, Croatia, Hungary and Belgium that will be not only inexpensive but quite rewarding too as they have amazing attraction to keep you engaged throughout your trip. Know the Portugal Visa Fees
Travel during off-peak times
Visiting a famous tourist hub during peak times in a great appeal.  Though the best approach to explore your favorite popular tourist destination while getting a great deal of savings is to travel during Off-Peak times.
Not to mention, travelling off-season is an excellent way to escape noisy crowds of visitors if you are also a kind of person who enjoys a little peace and quiet. It may be true for your destination as well, as many places shine their greatest when there is no background noise (as you hear those natural sounds).
Make your Flight Reservations in Advance
Though it’s good to be spontaneous and adventurous but it's often not a very good idea to wait until the last minute to book your flight tickets.
Flight rates can fluctuate greatly from day to day and they nearly always reach their peak a few days prior to takeoff.
You may save hundreds of pounds by making your reservation a few weeks or even months in advance. This could be a little catch of travelling on a restricted budget where you have to commit to a plan well in advance.
Opt for Inexpensive Accommodation
Instead of staying in a fancy hotel consider a variety of accommodation choices including hostels, guesthouses or holiday rentals. Affordable alternatives that also offer comfort and authentic local experiences can be found on websites or mobile applications like Airbnb, Booking.com, etc.
Be Flexible with your Transportation
It might be quite cost-effective to be flexible with your transportation options. The most affordable alternative may be found by comparing several options such as buses, trains and low-cost flights. Consider doing overnight journeys since this can help you save money on both travel and accommodation.
The local bus or metro will be far less expensive and a great way to get a feel of a new destination or city. Try using local rickshaws, motorbikes, etc. if you are sick of using the buses.
Dine Where Locals Eat
Tasting local cuisine is obvious while traveling but if you dine out for each meal than it will quickly add up. So to save your money and go to local markets, find food stalls and inexpensive restaurants where locals usually go. This will not only help you maintain your budget but will also allow you to taste real local food.
Find Some Travel Discounts and Rewards
Use loyalty programs, credit card benefits and travel reward programs to earn points or receive discounts on travel, accommodation or activities. To learn about exclusive deals and promotions, subscribe to newsletters and follow airlines' and travel agencies' social media pages. This can prove to be one of the best tips to Travel Cheap or budget.
Apply for Travel Credit Card & use Reward Points for Reservations
To give customers with exclusive offers, hotels and airlines frequently work together with specific providers of credit cards. You might earn huge welcome bonus that can be used for free or significantly high discounted trip if you use your credit cards wisely and do some research.
Pack your Camping Gear and Prepare yourself to Sleep Under the Stars
Although we've looked at a number of inexpensive accommodation options, if you have a thing for outdoors you might not have to spend anything at all as with. Without spending much money beyond a basic tent and inflatable mattress, camping is an outstanding way to be close to nature.
In our best Tips to Travel Cheap or budget I would like to add one more tip and that is to find a few free things to do.
The only option that is much better than "cheap" is obviously something "free," isn’t it? And in the era of digital technology all it takes to find a free activity is a quick web search. In most of the cities there are nearly always free things to do, from yearly festivals at parks to free museum days & other meets.
Conclusion
We've come to the end of our list of the best tips for travelling on a budget. These are our best recommendations based on years of low-cost travel and hope that it will help you on your journey as well.
The finest things in life may not precisely be free but they sometimes come at a lower price than you may even expect. The world will become more accessible to you, the earlier you learn how to travel on a budget.
