A garden had been slowly building up just outside the forest. It was neatly organized and had a couple of small fences built around it but whoever had been growing it had rarely been seen outside of people mentioning flashes of red.

It was a rather pretty garden though, very peaceful and quiet, especially with some people being a bit intimidating by the rapidly growing plants with no known source. It would be a lovely place to relax for a bit or even just see the variety of different flowers and other plants there.

So, you dislike Disney's new films with the villains having tragic stories and trying goad watchers by having people of color acting in controversial roles. What about the cartoon serieses that were made from the movies? "The legends of Tarzan", "Disney's the little mermaid", "Aladdin" or "Hercules"? Did you like those?

Honestly...no. I tried watching one or two of those, but I didn't really care much for them, because they took place in the past and so much got retconned because of it. Tangled took a different route by having the series take place before the wedding short but after the movie, and Eugene had said years had passed before they actually did the final proposal in the epilogue of the movie, so they had room to work without changing too much. The only thing that had people asking questions was why wasn't Varian there at the wedding, since Cassandra left the Kingdom. I personally think he was preparing some big surprise for the reception. Also, points to them for actually getting how many times Eugene and Rapunzel collectively tried to propose right. "After (3) years of asking (coronation), asking, (Rapunzel proposing in Cassandra's tower), and asking (the final proposal), I finally said yes. Oh, alright, I asked her." But, that is easily explained away, really. Ariel only hanging out with Flounder and Scuttle in the movie when she made other friends in the series cannot. I heard there's some nerd kid that turned villain at one point in the series, what happened to him? Is he still a villain? Did he get exiled? Is he alive? Is he a WORM-THING IN URSULA'S GROTTO? Hercules' series...don't know much about it, was it taking place during his training montage? But, did he ever actually leave that place in all those years? Is having him leave it a retcon? I don't know! Aladdin's series...actually, that one is okay, too. It takes place after the movie, and the sequel movies aren't too badly affected by what happened in the series, as far as I can tell. It certainly introduces a lot of interesting new characters. Haven't watched it fully myself, but I've seen a few clips and some fanart. I know nothing about Tarzan's, but the Lion King series was decent enough. Lion Pride, though, honestly retcons WAY more, and I'm SO iffy about that one. Where the hell was this guy when his sister was playing Romeo and Juliet? Apparently he had a thing with Vitani?! When did THIS happen? Why are they freely going in and out of the Pridelands?! Scar was doing WHAT when he was a kid?! It's a decent AU, but trying to fit into where it's supposed to be, between Lion King 1 and Lion King 2, it doesn't work. There's too many retcons, too many questions. This is like if someone decided to make a movie based on "Rapunzel and the Lost Lagoon" and say it canonly took place before the series! Except, hold on, I haven't fully read it myself, is Rapunzel's hair short or long in it? When is this supposed to take place?! When did Rapunzel and Cassandra secretly get married in the Lost Lagoon?! And don't get me STARTED on the Flynn Rider book! I do not like "canon" stuff being introduced that takes place before the original thing happens because 9/10 times it is COMPLETELY retconned. Can we please stop going back in time and changing history?!

Was re-listening to the Frozen 2 OST and realized that "The Next Right Thing" is absolutely perfect for Exiled!Varian..??? 😭😭 I'M CRYING, THE ANGST GOT TO ME

hey... OUCH??? you are totally right, “hello, darkness, I'm ready to succumb” pretty much sums up his point of view at the start of the au, and it perfectly encapsulates that struggle of moving forward because you don’t know what else you can do. anyways here’s a sad thing from the Exiled AU. Varian would have been alone for a few months, trying to survive out in the wilderness since he’s treated like dirt by other people. and well he’d have been so isolated that when Cassandra and Eugene are sent by Rapunzel to make sure he’s okay, he at first doesn’t recognize them. in his mind, everyone is a danger to him. he probably had to steal that bow and make his own arrows so he could teach himself to hunt

So, I don’t know if anyone has already came up with this idea yet, but I was thinking about @snowprincess-artist Exiled AU, and a thought came to me!

What if at some point after Rapunzel had sent Eugene and Cassandra to check on Varian, he ended up running into Angry and Red?

Since both girls are thieves who are traveling and living on their own without an actual place to call home, it wouldn’t surprise me if at some point during the AU Varian ends up meeting them! Like maybe Angry and Red could of found the old cabin that Varian was living in, and probably either assumed that no one was living there so they went inside to take shelter or of course, maybe went in to see if they can find something valuable to steal. But instead, once they go in they discover this beaten up and weary teenage boy living there all on his own!

And like, what if after meeting him and seeing the type of condition he is living in, both Angry and Red decides to be there for Varian and permanently stay with him?

After all, Varian at this point is an orphan like they both are and since he probably isn’t that much older than them, the girls most likely wouldn’t be as distrusting of him as they are with adults. Granted, the trust will need to be developed on both sides since Varian obviously wouldn’t be as trusting of them either, but maybe he could have calmed down a little bit after Eugene and Cassandra’s visit and like since Angry and Red are younger, Varian wouldn’t be too much in guard around them?

Plus, I don’t think that the girls would hate Varian or treat him harshly over what he did to Corona, especially since they are both thieves after all. If anything, I could imagine that they both would be very understanding and even sympathetic of him, even if neither girl knew what it must feel like to be desperate enough that you will do anything to save a parent. But because they had experienced having someone actually care for them and wanted to try and make life better for them, I wouldn’t be surprised if Angry and Red would eventually decide to try and do the same for Varian. Even more so, especially after seeing how Varian is fairing all on his own and the way he even reacted when he first met them, which no doubt consisted of him pointing his bow at them and possibly even trying to shoot at them in alarm.

Varian is all on his own after all, and if anyone understands what it means to be all on your own and was rejected, betrayed and kicked to the curb by others at such a young age, it would be Angry and Red.

Plus, can you imagine these three living together?

Angry and Red would so teach Varian everything they know about thieving and survival! Which is something he is going to need, especially considering how he was treated once he had been exiled. And like, even if Varian refuses their help and tells them that he is fine or just doesn’t believe that he deserves their help, the girls especially Angry, are stubborn and so they would no doubt insist on helping him. Even if Angry may get a little fed up with him, Red could convince her to help and in the end they will do just that and eventually, all three could be living in the old cabin together.

Plus, can you imagine how happy and in relief Rapunzel would be if she hears that Varian isn’t alone anymore? Heck, Eugene and Lance would be thrilled to hear that not only is the kid okay, but so are the girls! They would even be proud to hear that the girls were doing something good by being there for Varian, because honestly not only does he need it, but they do too.

Honestly, this idea is so random but like I kept thinking about it because it would really be cute to have our three youngest characters living on their own together and be there for one another. They can all bring out a lot of good if together and I wouldn’t doubt that by having Angry and Red around, Varian could just possibly find his old self again.

EXILE AU IDEAS

•Varian growing out his hair since he doesn't really bother keeping up his appearance after a while

•While giving up alchemy in favor of survival, he still has a tendency to write out ideas for improves on his weapons or cabin just to get them out of his head. He doesn't really do anything with them and leaves them piling up on a tiny table or stool in a corner

•Since he's alone most of the time, especially after one beating that left him with a limp, he tends to talk to himself, or not talk at all.

•Unless he's with people he knows and is calmed down, if he does talk he'll have a slight stutter as he chooses his words carefully.

•He improves on his lying, mostly to make it that he won't be instantly recognized by someone in fear of mistreatment.

•Tends to function more at night since less people would be around and/or not see him in the dark.

•When Eugene and Cassandra find him, and once they find him after he got freaked out and shot an arrow between their heads, it takes a while for them to calm him down. Mostly Eugene, since he knows first hand what it's like to be alone and scared and surviving for months.

• Once Varian is calmed enough and finally recognizes them, he quickly looks for comfort from Eugene due to not really getting ant positive contact with humans for a while, making him touch starved making it more obvious as to how young he is.

•The worst part is how he believes he deserves the mistreatment. That he deserves everything coming to him after all the stunts he pulled in the name of revenge and trying to free his dad.

•Obviously worried for the kid, the two decide that after a few days one of them would leave to report to rapunzel and her parents how Varian is. I'm including her parents since her dad seemed to be friends of some sort with Quirin, so he would wonder how the exiled boy was doing at least.

•Anything else you'd want to add?

Random ‘Tangled: The Series’ Thought

Just a random brainstorm, possibly for the exiled!Varian AU.

Somehow in the course of their adventures, Rapunzel and Varian end up making amends, and become friends again.  However, Varian is still exiled from Corona/can’t go back/refuses to go back for various reasons, so he isn’t able to attend their wedding (also explaining why he isn't in the short film).  However, despite this, he is able to send a present to Rapunzel and Eugene’s wedding, which ends up being a real and totally harmless music box device that plays I See the Light when wound up.

Time to ramble about the vague idea I have for my mermaid Varian AU

Varian loves studying humans,, and eventually that's when he meets Rapunzel and the rest of the cast who is mostly humans (might be some more mermaids in the future for the cast but idk)

So like,, it kinda of vaguely mirrors the tts season1 plot but branches off after the whole Quirin amber thing

So,, basically there is a lot of litter in the ocean... a lot more than usual. Varian keeps studying the stuff and Quirin slowly grows more angry but very worried. He just wants his son to be safe so he keeps telling him to leave it.

Varian interprets his concern for him more as "You don't care about any of this?! Dad, our home is being destroyed! Th-This doesn't matter to you?" so they're kinda arguing abt it now,,

Quirins like "I've seen people in our kingdom (The humans on land actually just kinda. live in normal towns instead of kingdoms,, the mermaids actually live in Kingdoms and Quirin's the king of Corona) get hurt from this..."

Varian just gets mad that his dad isn't doing anything "And they'll keep getting hurt by it if we don't do anything! Dad, if we just talk to the humans, I'm sure we could--"

And Quirin stiffens slightly "I thought I told you to stop talking to those humans."

So they're arguing over that now until Quirin notices a net about to close in on Varian and he pushes him out of the way and Quirin gets captured

So Varian instantly rushes to the shore and waits until he spots Rapunzel and begs her for help because he knows her dad works with the stupid meanie heads that actively hunt mermaids. She says she can't help him him bc [insert reason im yet to think of,, I thought of all this like ten minutes ago ok?] and Varian gets super pissed and upset and just decides that maybe he shouldn't trust humans and his dad was right that they all suck

ok so this is where it divulges a little farther from the original TTS plot

Varian swims home to Corona all mad and stuff so he can break the news to the rest of the merfolk. Instantly they're on him like sharks (haha) and are blaming him. He's the weird one that always talked to humans, it must've been his fault. He was probably waiting for the perfect moment to get his father captured so he could take the throne

Varian tries really hard to explain that's not even close to what happened but they don't listen and he's essentially exiled from Corona,, so he's kinda just swimming out in the ocean alone now.

Ranboo has scary mouth scars and heterocromia but is forced to take mask and glasses off for pe. Bulling and fear follow. Don’t question how the school would let him wear the mask and glasses in the first place.

Varian commits crime but Les Mis style he gets put into slavery instead of prison.

Have my word vomit. Also if you ever want to use these ideas tell me because I want to read that.

Ok, do crayons even exist in tangled? I saw a broken one on page 4, but if there were crayons, I think we might have seen Rapunzel use them at least once, but, as far as I could see, she hasn't.

Aqua - hey, good eye! the crayon was actually a reference to one of my other fics, the exiled!varian au ‘from the land that i left.’ when i was originally writing it, i researched and found that no, crayons weren’t really a thing in the middle ages.

BUT i figured 1) tangled is a fantasy world with magic and music box powered automatons and all SORTS of crazy stuff and 2) tangled’s actual time frame is VERY lose. the show creator said they drew inspiration anywhere from the 1400-1600’s while the movie crew cited the mid 1700’s. so i thought eh, a crayon existing really isn’t the biggest stretch of willful suspense of disbelief, in the grand scheme of things 😂

Written by @radioactivepeasant, Luke, currently on medical leave after Bespin, visits the library of Mygeeto in order to find manuals to help tune up Artoo and ends up offering a ride to a group of stranded travelers. However, it seems those travelers brought a deadly stowaway along, a situation made more complicated by Vader showing up. It’s one of my top favorites and one of the ones I make sure to have pulled up on long car rides. There is blood and gore of the Alien variety, but most death happens to minor characters and the Xenomorphs. There is also a sequel that’s started to come out that feels Lovecraftian-inspired. (Although that might just be me. We’ll see the Friday before Halloween.)

Written by @star-going-supernova, this is another of my favorites for long car rides. Instead of thirty years, Joey calls Henry after seven because only Henry’s drawings work in the Ink Machine. Horrified, Henry goes deeper into the depths of the studio, teaming up with his creations Bendy and Alice to find a way to stop Joey and bring an end to it all. It can be considered a full-on au on its own with the amount of (implied?) canon we have received, but there’s Dad Henry and dealing with the fact that he created the world of Bendy.
