NO ONE other than Schlatt and Wilbur lost a life that day. All things considered, if I remember correctly, Wilbur is only DIRECTLY responsible for one death, if you exclude The Finale Control Room with Eret's betrayal, and being in charge of Dream and Tommy's duel.

I don't want to hold anything against this specific person, because I Remember the discourse that lead to this and I know exactly how it could get passed around and warped (either through telephone or someone's own memory shifting with time).

that said, I never liked that discourse specifically Because it was a clear misreading of the text, and what better opportunity do I have to talk about it now.

the context was the bench trio therapy stream. tommy had been beaten to death by dream, sat in limbo for months, and then revived and told Explicitly that dream was planning on escaping prison and tormenting the rest of the server.

the mindset that tommy is in is that he Has to do something, but he's deeply traumatized by what's happened to him. he's Scared to go back to the prison, but he has no choice but to do it for the safety of everyone else in the server.

the "therapy stream" was bench trio Trying to do exposure therapy on tommy to help him work through his trauma in the lead up to attempting to infiltrate the prison. and the entire point is that they Absolutely Were Not actually helping.

what they were Actually doing was triggering tommy by exposing him to things that he was traumatized by, because they didn't actually know how to do exposure therapy and what they were trying to do wasn't healthy in the first place.

so the Context of this conversation is tommy desperately trying to just, Get Rid Of his trauma (something that is absolutely not possible) while entering a worse and worse mindset because he was intentionally triggering himself.

Likewise, the context for Tubbo's half of the conversation is that he Very Intentionally represses his own trauma, both from Himself and from other people. he puts himself in a little box that he buries under the floorboards and asks people to ignore the way the boards creak when they walk on him.

there's a million ways you could cut Why he does this. part it is his people pleasing, willingly pushing himself down for the sake of everyone else no matter how painful. seeing Himself as an accessory to the people he cares about, rather than a whole complete and important person. and in part because it feels Safer, it's Safer to pretend that nothing hurt him.

and Why that is is complicated. part of it is External. he doesn't Get to be angry about what he's been through, because the people he's angry At will just hurt him again. and if he thinks about how he's hurt then he Will get angry, so he just Won't Think About It.

and part of it is that I don't think he wants to process his trauma any more than tommy does. because it's painful, because he doesn't have the tools to actually work through it, because they aren't Safe so he can't afford to break down now (trouble is, there never Seems to be a "safe" time to think about himself).

they're the Repression Brothers. the difference being that tommy's at a different stage of it. not a Healthy One, but different.

tommy spent months not being able to put into words what exile was, what pogtopia was, was the final control room was. and he still won't be able to put it in plain words for some time from here.

but he's reached the point where he Can't ignore it anymore, but he still doesn't know what to Do about it. he's still frustrated with an (to an extent) Ashamed Of his trauma. he feels Lesser Than he was before and wants it to all just go away and go back to Normal.

he's doing this because he Has To, because he Has to be strong enough to fight dream. because if he's too scared to do it then he'd be sacrificing everyone else's safety.

he and tubbo are doing the Same Thing in different fonts, sacrificing their well being for the people Around Them, including Each Other.

so, lets go back to that moment that started all of this.

the exposure therapy was on the final control room section, with tommy working through having been killed by dream.

tubbo mentions that he died that night too, and tommy says something to the effect of "you did, but you have thicker skin."

this has been taken out of context to mean "you did, but I have it worse than you," when IN CONTEXT it means "you did, but you're stronger than me," or more accurately "you did, But I'm Worse Than You."

tommy does not see his trauma in the context of stupid apologist discourse. he sees his trauma as something that makes him Worse, as something he Shouldn't Feel. as something that makes him Weaker than everyone else, who Obviously are so much more put together than he is.

when he says this he's not saying that he's more important than tubbo, he's putting himself down in comparison TO tubbo.

and this is absolutely still harmful ! This is legitimately one of tommy's character flaws ! but it is Not the selfishness that people make it out to be.

it's tommy accidentally hurting other people by seeing Himself negatively. it's an unhealthy relationship with mental health, and a Realistic one considering the circumstances and setting.

likewise, it's Just As Much born from tubbo's own unhealthy coping mechanisms. tommy assumes that what happened didn't bother tubbo the way it did him because Tubbo wants him to think that.

Tubbo doesn't let tommy see how much he's hurting, which in turn feeds into this cycle.

tubbo assumes he Has to shove his trauma down for tommy's sake (for the sake of Everyone he cares about), and so tommy assumes tubbo was just Stronger than him and wants desperately to just shove his own trauma away the way tubbo seems to be able to.

this moment IS tragic, it IS an example of the two of them hurting each other. but it's BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH THEY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER !!!

Both Of Them are trying to be strong enough to protect the other, and it's Hurting Them. it's unhealthy, but it 's not Malicious. it's self-sacrificial not Selfish. it's not something they've done to each other but what's been done To Them by the world they live in. what they've done to Themselves trying to live in it.

Bedrock bros just after exile week. Techno is huffing about Tommy going outside unprepared -forget his trash armor, he’s not even in warm clothes! And look at those holes- and while Tommy INSISTS that he’s a big man and will be fine, that’s not how hypothermia works. So Techno just plops his cloak on top of Tommy, who immediately buckles under the weight. He struggles to escape and just utterly fails. Trapped in cloak hell. Techno has a flashback to trying the blanket intelligence test on Floof and starts rethinking his choice in allies.

Martyn: Court is back in session!

BigB: Who is the witness?

Martyn: Right, Philza Minecraft.

Grian: The Hardcore guy?

Martyn: Yeah.

Pearl: That one guy that looks like he's your cousin?

Martyn: ... Yeah.

Grian: Witness, have anything else to add about yourself?

Phil: No.

Kristin: Oohhh! It's Phil!

Squiddo: Oh! Who's that?

Kristin: My husband.

Squiddo: I see!

E1!Jimmy: I miss my husband Squiddo, I miss him a lot.

Squiddo: What happened to him?

E1!Jimmy: He killed himself to stop his evil brother.

Phil: So?

Grian: Right, prosecution you may begin with your examination.

Tubbo: PhilZa.

Phil: Toby. It's been a while.

Tubbo: Yes ... Well, this isn't about us, It's about Dream.

Phil: What about him?

Grian: Prosecution wanted you as witness to Dream's stalking in the past.

Phil: Oh I can do that. You see, Dream here is a son of a bitch. One day I see Tommy running to my base which is weird considering Doomsday and Dream is running after him like a psycopath.

Tubbo: He was running after Tommy?

Phil: That's what I got from it, apparently Tommy was searching for something in his exile place and Dream was there and started running after him.

Tubbo: So then, was Dream waiting for Tommy?

Phil: I think so mate, why?

Tubbo: Then, he probably must have been following Tommy for a while right?

Punz: Objection! Leading the witness!

Tubbo: How do you think he could have known that Tommy was going to be there?

Phil: ... He was probably following him before that.

Punz: And- well, how could you possibly know he was running after him.

Phil: Because he was after Tommy. And he was running.

Punz: Well, what if Tommy was hiding something about the story?

Phil: Could have been a possibilty if Dream hadn't done the same before.

Pearl: Wait wait wait. He did something similiar before?

Phil: Techno said so, he would go near our base and observe like a creep.

Punz: Well... well, he could have been lying-

Phil: Techno would not lie to me.

Punz: ... But.

Phil: No.

BigB: Ehm, well... Does the prosecution have anything else to add?

Tommy: Oh? Uh... no?

Tubbo: I do.

Tommy: You do?

Tubbo: Tommy ...maybe It's best if you sit this part out.

Tommy: Oh... yeah I'll just go now.

Pearl: What was that about?

Tubbo: I call ... *sigh in disgust* The Warden to the witness stand.

Sam: Oh? Where am I? Tubbo what are you doing-?

Tubbo: I don't want to hear you, don't waste time.

Sam: Why are we in a courtroo- DREAM!??

Tubbo: That's why.

Grian: And why is he here?

Tubbo: I'll explain bossman. He is here as witness to Dream's murder of Tommy.

*the watchers in the crowd oohs, Dream's knuckles are white in stress*

Sam: Tommy was visiting the prison when it happened.

Tubbo: What did?

Sam: Ranboo.

Tubbo: ... What.

Sam: Ranboo triggered the prisons defences and caused the prison to go into lockdown.

Grian: Lockdown? What is that?

Sam: The prison locks to lower the chances of the prisoner escaping.

Punz: And did it work out? *Smirks*

Sam: ... It did not.

BigB: Go back to the murder? Please?

Sam: Right.

*In the jury*

Kristin: You don't mind if I tp Phil here do you?

Voice of The Star: No?

Kristin: Perfect!

Sam: I didn't notice it at first but a fight started...

Tubbo: A fight?

Sam: Well, it was extremely one sided... Tommy must have angered Dream because he started beating him.

Pearl: And he died?

Sam: Yes, it was...

Tubbo: You don't need to describe it ... And do you have tape of it?

Sam: Yes, yes I do. I register everything in the prison.

Grian: ... Taurtis?

Taurtis: Getting the video!

Grian: Thanks... And Martyn.

Martyn: I'll go grab Tommy.

Martyn: And that concludes the witness testimonies.

Grian: Finally, that lasted forever.

Pearl: C'mon mate, It wasn't that bad.

BigB: Well It's finally over.

Jimmy: My hands hurt from writing.

Martyn: Jury? Have you come to a decision?

Squiddo: Definitely guilty.

Kristin: Guilty of course.

Knight!Grian: I found the defendant... guilty of all counts.

Voice of The Star: Oh yeah, he's absolutely guilty.

E1!Jimmy: GUILTY!

Martyn: Dream Was Taken, you have been found... GUILTY!

Dream: Ugh. Punz, what did I pay you for!?

Punz: It's not my fault-

Pearl: Order!

Punz: ...

Martyn: What are you sentences your honours.

BigB: I sentence Dream to be stripped of his admin and mod status which will be given to Philza Minecraft in the meantime.

Dream: ... no.

Pearl: I sentence the defendant with 6 lifetimes in the void cells and 10 lifetimes of mandatory therapy.

Dream: ...No!

Grian: And I sentence him with the redistribution of his assets and propery between Tommy and Tubbo as well as a fine of 5 stacks of diamond blocks to the court for making us waste time on this. We also have proof of you possessing a revival book, the book will be taken and your memories of It's working erased. Lastly but not leastly... You will be made immortal for the duration of your sentence to fully experience Pearl's punishment.

Dream: NO!

Tommy: FUCK YEAH! TAKE THAT GREEN BITCH!

I'm not sure how many people know about this, but the entire script for the Green Festival was actually shown in Tommy's DSMP tribute video from last year. It seems to have been written by Dream (it mentions "I" at some point when referring to Dream), and it's pretty interesting to see how they planned out the lore streams and what changed in the actual streams.

Transcription The festival is happening. Fundy, Tubbo, Quackity, Ranboo, Niki, and anyone else that is generally around lmanburg can attend. Everyone starts streaming early for the festival. Before the festival starts, Quackity Tubbo and Fundy (and ranboo? I'm not sure who was there originally), have a meeting about how they're going to kill Dream.

They talk about how Dream trusts Tubbo so Tubbo is going to have to be the one to do it. That they've become sort of friends since Tommy was exiled. Tubbo agrees, still slightly doubtful that it would work. Tubbo says that Dream agreed to show up with no armor to for the first time ever, honor lmanburgs laws.

The meeting ends and they start the festival, talking about how Dream said he would be a little late.

Tommy and Techno at this point have been planning how they're going to ruin the festival (and get back Tommy's disc from Dream). They know that Dream will show up, but they don't know how they'll fight him without him escaping. (Ranboo finds them on the outskirts of lmanburg and tells them that Dream agreed to show up in no armor? possibly?) That sparks that they can hide around lmanburg and ambush Dream when he's at the festival. Tommy and Techno improv and mess around while trying to build an "ambush spot" (all of this is sort of unimportant to the plot so can be adjusted to make funnier/better streams for those two).

Tommy and Techno start streaming about 30 minutes after the others.

After some festival activities have been done, Dream shows up in full armor, placing obsidian again in a wall formation. Everyone sees him and runs over confused about what's happening.

They hop in a call with dream (techno and tommy join too but tell eachother to be quiet before joining.) Dream starts screaming about what Tommy did and how he really screwed up this time (tommy is kind of afraid and is looking at techno for assurance), and everyone is confused about what Tommy did, especially tubbo. Dream yells about the fact that Tommy destroyed the community house, the longest standing structure on the server, and how he has to pay for it. Quackity and the others don't believe it and decide to go look with Dream. (Techno and Tommy follow stealthily behind (invis), no one should see them).

Sapnap and anyone else from the original Dream SMP can log on now or already be on and come over to see. (Awesam, Callahan, George(probably not), Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, Punz)

They stand in front of the shattered remains and everyone is shocked that Tommy would do this, and upset. Everyone is insisting that Tommy really screwed up and that it's horrible.

Tubbo agrees but insists that he and lmanburg had nothing to do with it. Dream says that as long as Tubbo has one of the discs, he has everything to do with Tommy. Tubbo seems shocked and thinks about what Dream said. All of the Dream SMP original members agree and are talking about how he should give it so they can burn it once and for all. Tubbo is reluctant but seems to agree that Tommy keeps doing things that would put lmanburg in danger, so he doesn't want association.

He seems like he is about to give the disc, so Tommy reveals himself (techno too) and gets into a screaming match with Tubbo about it.

--Tommy and tubbo fill in what happens here, but it's a big argument and fight probably mostly improv-

Eventually after both nearly dying, Tommy realizes that he's fighting his best friend and stops. Tubbo is angry and gives the disc quickly to Dream, saying that it's just a stupid disc. Tommy is hurt by that but realizes that he's been blinded and has lost friends because of it. Tommy realizes that Dream now has both of his discs, and that they're back at square one.

Dream has an evil speech about how Tubbo is an idiot and that he never should have given him the disc. That Tubbo was never the president of L'manburg, but that everyone else had more control than him of his own country, even Dream. That he's the worst president because he was no president at all. Expose Ranboo as a traitor that has been working with Techno and Tommy, and that he can't even keep control of his own people. Give Tubbo the book with proof. That l'manburg is weaker than it's ever been, and that the only thing stopping Dream from completely destroying l'manburg was the fact that Tubbo had the discs and so Dream had to befriend him.

Now there's nothing stopping Dream from completely obliterating l'manburg. Everyone seems shocked and tries to talk Dream down, but Dream screams and tells everyone to shut up. Everyone goes completely silent. Dream asks Techno if he has any withers left. Techno responds basically like "oh do III" because he has so many.

--Techno should add more here so he has more of a role-

Dream announces that tonight is the final night of l'manburg forever. That he and Techno will finish the job that Wilbur started, and that l'manburg will be blown all the way to bedrock at (TIME, the next day). He tells everyone to say their last goodbyes, and to not try and stop him because Techno and him will kill every last one of them.

Dream leaves.

Everyone is left in shock, (maybe techno has some funny monologue here like it's awkward that I just left him there with everyone or something)

No one knows what to say. They realize that Dream has gone completely insane and that he has to be stopped. (techno is gone by now) They realize that Dream made a mistake by telling them the time, and they decide that they will all plan to work together and stop them. If all of the server fights together they can beat Techno and Dream. They get hyped about it and Tommy and Tubbo agree to fight together, despite having 1 canon life, that they're willing to put their lives on the line for l'manburg. They kind of have a reunion.

--Possibly Tommy leaves or ends here?-

Quackity seems blood thirsty and wants to punish Ranboo for conspiring with them and being a traitor. Tubbo disagrees and Quackity and tubbo get into an argument, Quackity insists that he HAS to execute him because he was a traitor. Tubbo gets mad and flips out on Quackity insisting that he's not going to be like Schlatt and execute him next to his own festival decorations (call back), that they need to ALL be together, ALL of them, otherwise they will lose to Techno and Dream. As long as he agrees to fight, he will fight with them. Quackity still seems to disagree, Tubbo puts his foot down and mentions what Dream said. That everyone else always pushed him around, but no HE'S the president, and his word is final, anyone who goes against it is committing treason. Quackity reluctantly agrees, but says that what Tubbo said doesn't mean they can't deal with the traitors after they stop Techno and Dream.

It would be extremely funny if cTommy never bothered to wash his hair regularly so it was never at its natural color until Techno forced him to take a bath after exile. And just imagine, you’re a piglin taking care of a child that you’ve grown to think of as your own runt and on top of that he’s gold?!

And then Phil coming home finding a spitting, cursing Tommy in the basement with all of Techno’s other prized treasures, and the conversation goes a little like this:

“Techno, why is Tommy in your basement?”

“He’s GOLD, Phil.”

“I know, mate, but you can’t kidnap people because of that.”

“But he’s gold. My golden runt :(“

“Please let him out, Techno. He’s going to burn the cabin down once he escapes if you don’t.”

Also another reason Tommy wears his bandanna to pull back his hair is because if he doesn’t Michael will pull out huge clumps of it every time he holds him.

This is a really fun ask because boy oh boy do I have thoughts. And I'm sure it will upset the masses (especially my take on the second part of this ask)

Now, to start with the owner quote... genuinely the bane of my existence. Mostly because people tend to use it to try and understand discduo's general dynamic when it should only be used to understand how Tommy feels. Tommy sees Dream as his owner, sure, but this doesn't automatically mean that Dream feels the same way. The only thing this quote does on Dream's behalf is highlight the amount of control he had over Tommy during exile. Or at least, shows how much power Tommy percieves him having. I say percieve because in reality, Dream had no power at all over Tommy. The realization of that is what motivates Tommy to leave exile in the first place and what keeps him going afterwards.

That quote, to me, shows Tommy's mental decline and his dependence on Dream as his only "friend" the only thing "keeping him alive" someone he depends on. Very similar to a pet and owner relationship. No matter what an owner does, a pet is unable to fight back, unable to run, unable to escape because it depends on it's owner for survival. This is how Tommy sees himself and Dream during exile. And that's all that quote is meant to show. I'd argue that Dream saw exile as more of a "mentorship" preparing and molding Tommy into a weapon he could use. Not unlike Techno post exile (though he definitely went about it in a moderately better way)

Now. Let's get into my favorite topic. Post prison discduo's relationship, because absolutely NO ONE has gotten this stage of their dynamic correct so it's all up to me. This will upset the "Dream is so obsessed with Tommy that he started fucking with him the second he got out of prison for no reasom" crowd, so i ask you to get your sighs and eye rolls out of the way now and enjoy the rant.

Before we can talk about the torture disc, we first have to talk about Dream's appearance on exile island. So... what was that about? Did Dream, fresh out of prison, really decide his first course of action would be to torment a child for no reason?

Well!

Obviously not.

Dream went to exile island for one reason and one reason only. To retrieve the axe of peace and repay his favor to Techno. Tommy just happened to be there and so Dream took the opportunity to scare him. But why? You might be asking. Why would Dream attack Tommy? He could've just left. Well, the answer is obvious, in fact Dream out right says it before he starts attacking Tommy.

Dream's main goal once he gets out of prison is to get revenge on the people who allowed him to be tortured in prison. Obviously, that means Sam and Quackity, so why then is Tommy attacked? Simple. Dream believes that Tommy direct caused and supported his torture. And this isn't a random moment of Dream blaming Tommy for his problems either. Dream is attacked by Quackity immediately after Q talks about Tommy's death/revival and Dream asks if people "thought it was cool." That makes it pretty obvious that Q was torturing Dream at least partially on Tommy's behalf. And given the fact that Tommy is the only person alive who has been affected by revival (and the reason Dream's life was originally spared due to Tommy wanting to keep the possibility of seeing Wilbur again) It makes perfect sense that Tommy is not only the reason that Q wants to torture Dream, but also may be the reason he wants the book at all.

Dream is not an idiot and could've easily pieced this together, causing Dream to treat Tommy the way he did Sam. Taunting, scaring, and threatening him as payback.

Now, let's go back to the original topic, the torture mixtape. We've already established that Dream has a real reason (in his mind) for targeting Tommy. But why did he do it the way he did? Well, we see during most of the post prison lore that Dream is not at his full strength. Tommy and Tubbo comment on how slow and weak he is during the dsmp finale. Dream also needs to recruit Purpled just to take down Quackity, who would've been easy work for let's say doomsday era Dream (minus the slime army which Dream didn't even know about when he recruited Purpled)

Dream's inability to fight is very important because it explains why Dream resorted to taunting, threats, and triggering Tommy's trauma. It's a scare tactic. Because scaring Tommy is really all he can do to get him off his ass. Even though Tommy is a weak opponent, Dream wouldn't be able to kill him in genuine combat. I mean, hell, Dream barely even comes close to harming Tommy or Tubbo during the finale. And so soon after his escape Dream was much weaker than we see him during the finale.

Post prison, Dream's goals barely even include Tommy anyway, and he's more of an annoying obstacle than a genuine opponent at that point. Tommy isn't even worth half the effort Dream gives to Quackity and Sam. Dream used the threats and mixtape to scare Tommy into avoiding him so that he wouldn't have to fight yet another opponent.

Also sidenote: Dream definitely knew Tommy was getting that axe to try and kill him. Again, he's not an idiot. Keeping Tommy too afraid to try anything is important for Dream's survival and his overall plan for the server.

Anyway! That's all I have to say about this topic. I haven't slept and I'm slowly going insane so uhm... if I repeat myself too many times justttt pretend I didn't.

When Tommy woke up, he wasn't expecting to be covered in sand. Where was he?

It took him a moment to realize exactly where he was. Oh.

He felt incredibly confused, why was he here? Wasn't he at home earlier?

—You've been sleeping for a good while, what a pity that all of that was just a dream, right?—

That voice... Tommy turned around immediately.

—Dream...what are you..—

—Have you forgotten? I'm your best friend, of course I'm going to be here—

Dream's mocking tone was sending the boy into hyperventilation. No way. He couldn't be back here. No.

No no no no no no.

—No, I was-... I was with Tubbo, at home, I spent so long away from this place.—

—Oh so you really think that you could escape?—

His eyes were dwelling up with tears. Had all his freedom really only been a dream? No, it couldn't be.

—Don't cry, Tom, you'll always have me, even if Tubbo blatantly betrayed you and stabbed you in the back, I'm your best friend! You are never alone, Tommy—

Tommy was horrified, so much so that his chest started to hurt and felt sick to his stomach.

Abruptly, he woke up. A scream coming out of his own throat breaking the calm silence in the room. He had barely a couple of seconds to turn to the side before he was already throwing up on the floor.

It was a nightmare. Right? It had all just been a cruel nightmare... Can't Dream just leave him alone once and for all?

His chest still hurt, and he felt dizzy all over. He couldn't help but break down sobbing.

Suddenly, the lights in his room turned on, Tubbo walking in, worried.

—Tommy-? Tommy! What happened? I heard a scream and- did you throw up? Oh my god, wait, I'll go clean that.—

The blond didn't even register anything of what Tubbo said. He simply kept crying and shaking on his bed. A couple of minutes later, the vomit poodle was gone, cleaned off by Tubbo, who was sitting on Tommy's bed, trying his best at comforting him.

—Shh... Shh... Everything is going to be alright... What happened?—

Tubbo asked, his voice as gentle as he could make it, softly caressing Tommy's head.

Tommy had clung to Tubbo, hugging him tightly as little by little his sobbing faded out.

—I... It was a nightmare—

Tommy's shaky voice made the brunet hug him tighter, wanting to comfort his best friend with all his might.

—I was back in Logstedshire, exile... Dream was there...—

It's all the explanation the younger could muster. Those words hit Tubbo like a bucket of ice cold water falling down on him.

Exile was all his fault. Completely his fault. He had basically stabbed Tommy in the back.

Tubbo felt like throwing up. To this day he could not forgive himself for such a thing, probably never will.

He felt horrible, hiding his face on Tommy's shoulder.

—It's okay... You're okay... Your exile ended long ago... You're with me now—

Whispered Tubbo reassuringly, maybe for the both of them.

Not too long after, both of them fell back asleep, still clinging tighter onto each other.

Techno is the one who sees this form the most since it's usually his things that Tommy is trying to steal(mainly golden apples) and Tommy was in this form for most of his stay with Techno after escaping exile(he changed his form to be more similar to Techno's a little bit before Tommy chose to go with Tubbo instead of Techno).

i generally headcanoned that mexican dream was an imaginary friend of tommy's in exile and that he made him up as a form of escapism. up until he showed up as a ghost and in limbo. which resulted in it being a large bait n switch. i think the only thing that wouldve been funnier was if that reveal was during the tommy prison incident.

tommy: y-you fucked me over, man! i was,-i hallucinated a guy who looked like you, who'd keep me company and tell shitty jokes, just to fucking get away from it!

Hybrid AU in exile week where avian instincts can take over to a degree that is almost horrific, erasing someone’s personality and rationality when they’re panicking. First part here.

Tommy is sick of being sat upon by some nut job he barely knows. It’s been days trapped under a Philza who doesn’t really register human words and mostly just coos whenever Tommy tries to cuss him out. Techno says it’s ‘cause Philza thinks he’s been hurt and needs to be protected, which like, yeah, fine sure, but not by Philza. Tommy already has a guardian. His abuser has to be insanely worried about him, especially after Philza assaulted him for no reason. But every time Tommy tries to escape he’s just dragged back and everything gets worse.

At least that part is familiar.

He’s forced to stay in that nest for days, and Tommy has never handled being cooped up well. Some part of him likes the weight of a parent roosting over him and the feeling of gentle hands combing through his wings and hair, but the overwhelming majority of his instincts just wants his abuser back. Techno is of absolutely no help, mostly since Philza keeps trying to murder him. But he sits in the corner and is open to chat, or read a book aloud to him to stave off some of the boredom. Best advice Techno has is that Philza will be normal again if he thinks his chick is safe and happy.

Hell no. Tommy is not feeding this guy’s delusions, especially when Techno reveals Tommy’s own feathers had been woven next to Philza’s in the nest long before Tommy’s abduction. A-grade creep behavior there. Besides, his abuser will come save him soon. Tommy is so acutely aware that he’ll never save himself.

But then it’s been days and he’s losing hope and just wants to go home, so desperately Tommy tries to figure out what Philza will register as a happy chick. Usually chirps just burst out of him, not something he controls at all, but with some struggle he forces out the little trill he made every time his abuser came home.

Something twists in Tommy’s chest as Philza echoes the joyful chirps at him. It feels horribly right, complete whereas with his abuser the greeting was never returned. That wasn’t his fault, he wasn’t an avian. Neither of them had known what was needed to soothe his instincts. 

But it works. Philza blinks rapidly, pupils returning to normal. His gaze locks on Tommy, eyes filling with tears. “I’m so sorry he did this to you.” Philza wraps him in a warm hug. Juuust great. He was hoping to leave after Philza got over it. All he wants is to get back to his abuser, but when he says as much the embrace becomes a vice. Tommy naturally rejects Philza’s awful claims, growing more and more desperate as his abuser is slandered. First the absurd claim he somehow stopped Tommy from flying, like it wasn’t because Tommy was too weak and small to. And then it’s after him for not providing proper shelter at their nest, even though his abuser was trying to teach him to be responsible when he had Tommy make his shack. Then the lack of healing supplies, then the fact he was dying alone when Philza found him.

“No, it’s my fault I tried to fly when he was gone! He was there for me every time I was injured! Shut up, I can too prove it. Hard not to be there when he caused it half the time!”

For some unknowable reason, Philza doesn’t take that well. Neither does Techno, even when Tommy tries to explain they’re misinterpreting what he said, really it was Tommy’s fault, mistakes and the natural punishment for his actions. When he argues it wasn’t bad, Techno brings up the injuries a bit too old to heal when he used the potions. They try to get in his head, voicing all the thoughts in Tommy’s head before he plummeted and proved his abuser right.

Thing is, Tommy has flown before. It’s been awhile, but he has, when he was younger, knew the wondrous taste of its joy. With L’Manburg he’d been careful to fly below the walls so he didn’t get shot down. And it wasn’t possible in Pogtopia. And then after…it just seemed pointless. And now he can’t at all, and the only reason he can find is because he doesn’t deserve that joy.

Unless it was taken from him. Just like everything else, Tommy finally admits. Wearing an avian’s feathers is meant to be a promise to support them as surely as their own wings, and yet his abuser clipped his. 

It’s hard, realizing he was only ever so weak because the man he trusted was sabotaging him the whole time. Twisting his instincts, forcing him to become a useless hatchling. Manipulating him so he could never fly to safety.

Tommy begins to sob.

/dsmp /rp I’ve been rewatching a lot of lore streams lately, and there’s a few things I’ve noticed about Dream’s reaction to being called evil, a villain, the bad guy, a monster, a psychopath, etc.

I’ve compiled all relevant clips in the video below, but I’ve also linked to each individual stream for additional context.

Firstly, there’s Dream’s own view on evil. He tells Sam that people who do bad things for no reason, or who just do them because they like them, are the people who are actually evil. Having no reason is what’s truly evil. Dream repeats this during the snake monologue as well. The snake that just bites without reason is pure evil.

Dream doesn’t see himself as evil because he believes he has good reasons for everything he does. During Tommy’s second prison visit, Dream says that he did bad things but that he did them for good reasons. He later admits to Sam that he doesn’t think he’s a good guy, but that he isn’t evil because he had his reasons.

And not only that, but one of Dream’s strongest convictions is that morality is a matter of perspective. Everyone is a good person in their own story, even when other people don’t see them that way. He brought this up during the staged disc finale, where he says that evil is in the eye of the beholder. He says it again when Tommy gets trapped with him in prison, then when Sam finds him after Techno’s escape, after Sam gets locked in prison, and lastly while speaking to Foolish. This is something that Dream deeply believes in.

What frustrates Dream is that nobody else has this view on morality. Nobody wonders whether Dream has any reasons for what he did and nobody sees their own part in conflicts. They just label Dream as evil and that’s it. This is most clear in the snake monologue:

“Oh, Dream exiled you, Dream blew up your country, Dream built a prison… And… we were just walking down a path. He’s evil.”

Sam says that he believes Dream just does bad things because he enjoys them, which Dream adamantly denies. Right before killing Tommy in prison, Dream gets angry about how Tommy is “annoying and disrespectful” only to then complain to Dream and accuse him of being a liar and of being manipulative.

Even before Doomsday, Dream is already getting irritated that many people portray him as the villain without seeing their own part. After George’s dethronement, George, Sapnap, and Quackity try to do a hostile takeover to reinstate George as king. In the discussion following this, Dream points out how George acts like Dream is a bad guy in that situation. When Tommy gets exiled, Dream thinks that Ghostbur is saying that Dream is the bad guy even though Tommy threatened Dream with burning Spirit’s remains. He also calls out Mexican L’Manberg for trying to paint him as the bad guy and a tyrant after they griefed Eret’s castle and set off TNT. 

Dream sincerely dislikes it when others call him evil or a psychopath. Tommy says this to him many, many times. Sometimes, Dream doesn’t react at all. After the Manberg vs Pogtopia war, Tommy calls Dream, “the villain”. Dream does and says nothing, while Punz goes and attacks Tommy. During Doomsday, Tommy says that Dream is a monster; Dream just replies with “okay.”

Other times, Dream does defend himself. In the staged disc finale, before going down the attachment vault, Tommy calls Dream a psychopath. Dream then says he “wouldn’t say that.” Inside the vault, Tommy says that Dream is a psycho again, prompting Dream to say that he is not a psycho and that everything he does is deliberate. Tubbo also calls Dream and Punz psychos when he and Tommy are taken to the prison, and Dream replies that it’s Tubbo and Tommy who are psychos for breaking in and murdering him in his own house.

Tommy calls Dream evil after he gets locked in prison with him. Dream then asks how he is any more evil than Tommy is. While explaining the staged disc finale, Dream is particularly angry that Tommy made the server turn against him by telling everyone that he was an “evil maniac” who was ruining everyone’s lives. He derisively says that he and Punz can’t test a selfless death limbo because they are “evil”, they are “so bad”, they’re “murderers”, and “blah, blah, blah, who cares.”

But despite all of Dream’s contempt for being labeled evil and a villain, he does seem to have internalized this idea somewhat. He jokes with Techno after the Green Festival that it’s “an evil villain thing” to give their enemies time to prepare. When Sam is locked in prison, Dream calls himself “the evil that was released from Pandora’s Box” and questions whether Sam even considers him a person. In the snake monologue, he compares himself to the “pure evil” snake that bites without reason until it gets put down.

And when Tommy finally realizes that Dream is not a villain, Dream immediately says that he is. The main instigator of the server’s hatred recognizes Dream’s humanity at long last, but Dream can’t seem to let go of the villain label just yet.
