hello!! i saw the tags on your pinned post abt how shoujo wasn't just romance and it got me curious bc i've read some nice shoujo but really dislike romance-heavy plots. are there any shoujos you like that don't have much or any romance in them? ty and i hope you have a good day! 💛

Oh, there are lots of mangas that are classified as shoujo and don't have romance!!

I am just now beginning my journey through shoujo as well, so I don't have a lot of recommendations for stuff I actually read, but the ones I did read or watch so far are:

Natsume Yuujinchou and basically anything else by its author, Yuki Midorikawa. Sometimes, her works do include romance, but the focus is almost always in the interpersonal relationships and the difficulties her characters go through in life. NatsuYuu is about an orphan boy who can see yokai, and for that reason he acts in "weird" ways and his foster families dislike him, so he keeps going from family to family. The story is about how he finds a good family who accepts and loves him, makes friends, and learns to make friends even with yokais.

There are currently 6 anime seasons out, and a 7th season is on its way, so you can either read the manga or watch the anime.

Akatsuki no Yona - i mean, this one does include romance, but i'll still put it on the list because as far as the anime went the focus is heavy on Yona's actual journey to gather the dragons of legend to be able to recover the kingdom that was stolen from her. It shows how Yona goes from a sheltered spoiled girl to a person befitting the title of dragon king.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom - this one is the og villainess isekai and it truly deserves the hype. It is about a girl who wakes up in the child body of the villainess of her favorite otome game. She remembers that the villainess' fate in the game was always either death or exile, so she tries her hardest to change her fate. This one is classified as a reverse harem, but the main character is pretty oblivious and worries more about farming and eating sweets and generally being the best girl ever than actually worrying about romance. Aro ace queen tbh. And her harem is just happy to be with her and be dragged along for her stupid adventures. Plus, the female members of her harem are taken seriously as well, Mary is a raging lesbian and it is not subtext. I mean, it is a shoujo, so of course the female characters would be important lol.

Usagi Drop - listen to me. You will absolutely not look for anything related to this manga. If you like the premise you can watch the anime. But, please, do not look for the manga. You will only be extremely disappointed by it. That being said, I recommend the anime. It is about a man who returns home for his grandfather's funeral and then finds out his grandfather had an illegitimate daughter who has now become an orphan. He ends up having to take care of her because the rest of the family considers her a shame to the family.

Now, for the stuff I havent seen yet, I'll just write some that are on my "plan to read" list and put their genres next to their names so you can check it out if you think the genre's sound interesting:

Basara (drama, fantasy, adventure) (i think this one has romance, but from what i've heard, the main character's story is a lot deeper as she takes her brother's identity in order to fight against the king who killed her brother, it is pretty famous and considered a classic)

Ghost Hunt (horror, mystery, psychological, supernatural)

Helter Skelter (horror, psychological)

My Stepmother and Stepsisters aren't Wicked (comedy, historical, slice of life)

Ikoku Nikki (drama) (this one is the one i'm currently most interested on, i hear it's about a distant woman who's never had a good relationship with her sister and now has to take care of her teenage niece because her sister died)

Itsuwari no Freya (crossdressing, historical)

Limit (drama, psychological, school) (this one sounds incredible tbh, on a field trip their bus gets into an accident and only 5 girls remain, having to learn to survive and trying to assert themselves over one another because they hate each other.)

Machida-kun no sekai (school)

Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru (drama) (the main character wants to infiltrate the household of the family who blamed her mother for a fire, in order to prove her mother's innocence)

So basically Joku was the character antagonist from an unreleased show BENTO aka BENTO 2.0

His mechanical gigantic robotic design was entirely HUGE but compared to buildings from Japan ofc. At least he was a tumblr sexyman if I read this by quote on quote.

Oh, and however when his reaction when Chibi starts to attack and tacked him just the rest of BENTO gang take him down for a victory. He’s got a right point that he almost failed for his point.

His concept designs of him, not to mention enough but his hair was extremely different than his theme video but his design is a bit tacky. But it got changed in that opening theme video when I watched this in December 2022

I was saying he was the new Tumblr Sexyman was from last year of 2023, unfortunately he was added on the Sexypedia Wiki since it got deleted in October 2024.

Honestly in my head canon of him; Joku was completely bisexual, but he’s more like gay (gay means attracted to men) but I mean he’s bisexual aroace

Oh, and second of all he got attacked by Chibi to take him down a lot because he’s a kinda like a butt-hurt to her. XD

Who knows that Joku is the new Tumblr Sexyman from last year 2023, because I put him in Miraheze Sexypedia since the fandom one got deleted.

Basically, Joku can be nefarious since Mr Klaus Studio just making a concept art about BENTO or BENTO 2.0 however does this into released in 2017 and now it’s still up in 2024 almost 7 years ago. How does this video was only 7 years ago, does this actual show has an anniversary?

Seeing that teaser, most of people didn’t know BENTO is, it’s an actual show made by Mr Klaus and Salbe Combe from Spain because yep this show was came from Spain. It’s about five spirited animals who were become humans as disguised, went to Tokyo about going for a crazy snack or even more some fun stuff, but Joku is the only main villain of this intro but the series is not been created yet for 8 years.

Do you remember this villain guy? Yes his name was Joku, an main antagonist from the BENTO series

TWST Ozma, Headmage of an all girls school that a sister school to both NRC and RSA. On good terms with Crowley and Ambrose.

TWST Glinda the Good Witch, Vice Headmage to All Girls School. It all the negative aspects of her character that get Twst.

TWST Arista, this will actually be a thing, so ye. non-binary half Merfolk-Fae. Can read the flow of magic. Love music and loves to surf (in human form).

TWST Cinderella's Mom, that's basically it. A TWST of Cinderella's mom, since she like dead before the reader even get a chance to meet her. (if you know, you know)

Idea that Crepus was originally from Khaenri'ah, but died during the Cataclysm was reborn as a Ragnvindr, died again, revived by the Abyss for whatever and now serves as a spy for the order. No memory of his previous life, because the Abyss Ordeer did an oopsie and accidentally erased/sealed Crepus's memories away.s

Celestia with an All Being/Person that disappeared one day and hasn't been seen since due to a power struggle?

GESNHIN VERSE for SU, former Celestial representing Dendro. Went into hiding during Celestia's power struggle and hid where would one day become Sumeru. Get mistaken as one of Sumeru's deities. They are okay with this. Pending...

GENSHIN VERSE for Himeko Murata, older twin sister to Diluc and took care of the Winery while Diluc went on his journey of self discovery. She knows exactly what he was doing as Himeko had developed her own spy/information network. She just glad Diluc came back in one piece. Went back to tinkering with things after Diluc returned. NOTE: specifically for my Diluc. Otherwise has no connection to other Dilucs unless otherwise plotted between muns.

GENSHIN VERSE for Malleous Draconia, a work in progress because I really haven't thought much of it through yet.

Think of what to do with Kaeya's Fake Prince Story. Canon decided to do something interesting and I'm all 👀 with trying to incooperate all the good stuff.s

Haruka didn't exactly approve of Mamoru dating Usagi, for her no one was good enough to be her Princess, but since she saw how happy Usagi was with Mamoru she relented.s

Currently reading the aligned continuity novel, Transformers: Exiles. I’m halfway through and plot is suddenly getting interesting and then they drop this bomb...!!!

Makeshift?!! Was a Kaon Gladiator too??!!!!!! I am shooketh! I have learned more about Makeshift in three chapters of this book than the, what...2 minutes he was in TFPrime?!

Sure he walked around as Wheeljack for most of the one episode he was in but...wow!

I shouldn’t really be surprised, since most of the core original Decepticons who followed Megatron were his fellow Gladiators. Probably hundreds of them but STILL! I didn’t expect Makeshift to be a gladiator fighter but then again...

Yeah, I wouldn’t mess with him. I bet he and Soundwave have a lot in common. With their special abilities, they’d make quite the spooky duo!!!

I’m hope I’m asking the right person for this AU this time.

How do One and Usagi realize, “Oh crap, I actually like that stupid-head”?

One will get a hint of his feelings for Usagi in season 2, but he won’t fully be aware of or understand those feelings until after season 2, when Usagi leaves. He won’t confess until he follows Usagi to Japan and helps him out with Exile stuff.

Usagi won’t realize his feelings until One confesses to him at the end of their exile arc (which lasts a few years). Almost immediately after One goes back home and gets caught up with season 3 shenanigans, giving them no time to talk about their feelings so they are stuck pining for each other
