Feeling very annoyed about my joint pain right now so what better way to deal with it than projecting my problems onto Dream?
So Dream is hypermobile, and he's been dating Hob for a little while. With Hob, he doesn't feel like he complains too much, he doesn't feel like he's a burden. He doesn't feel like he has to hide the pain and frustration he has to deal with because of his body. As a child he was often told that he was faking injury to get out of doing things he didn't want to do. Often he was told just to exercise more. As he got older, he was told that he was giving up on himself and that he should just push though the pain (despite the fact that when you're hypermobile, sometimes pushing though the pain now means needing joint replacements in the future). But with Hob, his problems are always taken seriously, his pain is believed and he's never infantilized for it. Hob isn't disgusted by his body doing weird things, his reaction to Dream hyperextending something on purpose isn't "put that away that's gross" it's "you'll regret that tomorrow"
Dream has definitely subluxed his jaw while giving Hob blow jobs before. After, because you know Dream wouldn't stop sex for something as trivial as a subluxation, Hob heats up a rice bag and massages Dream's face.
On his bad days, sometimes Hob will stay home from work just to comfort and be there for him. It's care like he's known from no other person ever in his life and he almost certainly cries about how lucky he is (usually in Hob's arms) at least once a week
Idk where exactly I'm going with this. But I'm just spinning the concept of hypermobile!Dream getting comfort and acceptance from Hob in my head. Just Dream getting the comfort I wish I had in my life.
Oh anon, joint pain is so horrible. I'm sorry you're going through it. I'm also in the hypermobile club, so I feel you. I really do.
Dream finds it hard to accept that this will be his life forever, you know? There's no cure for his condition, only management. He spent a lot of time pretending that there was nothing wrong, and ended up hurting himself. He has so many regrets... but knowing that he also gets to spend the rest of his life with Hob makes it almost bearable. Hob has slowly adjusted their shared home to be hypermobile-friendly, putting in all the accommodations that Dream has denied himself over the years: a bath chair, perching stools in the kitchen, banisters on the staircases, even a wedge for their bed so Dream can prop himself up when he's feeling bad enough to be bedbound.
Hob knows Dream’s body better than his own. When Dream hyperextends his knees, Hob is the one to notice and give him a gentle nudge. When he's standing and hanging off his joints and straining them, Hob grabs him a chair so he can sit down instead. When he needs his ring splints, it's usually Hob who fetches and puts them on for him. Dream often feels like a burden, but Hob tries to explain that all of these things aren't chores for him. They're just intuitive, easy acts of love. Hob WANTS to be Dream’s support.
Sex is a lot easier with Hob than it ever was with past partners. There's k-tape and splints and joint braces, which Hob treats with the same reverence he'd usually save for lingerie. Dream, naked, clad only in wrist splints and k-tape, is the most beautiful thing in the world to Hob. Cause he knows that Dream isn't going to get hurt while they make wild and glorious love.
They've definitely had wheelchair sex. Hob has knelt between Dream’s slightly spread legs and sucked his cock. Fortunately the brakes were on, or Dream might have gone rolling across the room from the force of his orgasm. Hob is very good with his mouth.
All in all: life is really really hard, but it's also good. And Hob makes it all worth it by being there and being himself. Dream couldn't love him any more if he tried.

Cripple culture is not wanting to go to PT anymore after just six weeks because it feels like your (phys abled) physical therapists don't understand anything about your situation and keep pushing for you to stop using the mobility aids that have increased your quality of life ten-fold.
I don't care if I'm relying on my mobility aids "too much". They want me to not use my crutches as much (which already don't help as much as I need them to) because I'm "strong enough" to not need them, according to them. Maybe my muscles are strong enough, but several times I have not been able to just go across the parking lot to get into the clinic from the car without my knees failing me, especially my bad one, or my hips and/or knees hurting like hell, or both. I'm strong as hell, sure, but that doesn't do shit when I'm scared to just go to the vending machine in my school alone because I'm worried my knee will dislocate or subluxate in the middle of me walking in the hallway for five minutes--which has happened on too many occasions to count. Not to mention my hips subluxating on multiple occasions when I'm not even doing anything--just laying in bed or on the couch on my back.
Or, get this, I went to [big city] and walked around for 45 minutes, and I was already knocked out. Then my family decided that we had to go to the store, and we did, and halfway through the shopping, I was in so weak and in so much pain that I physically could not talk. Once we got home, even after hours of resting, even after a full day, I could not walk more than ten feet without my crutches, and I couldn't walk at all without pain, even with crutches.
That's not even mentioning how, without my crutches, I am regularly banging into walls and door frames, and I have a relatively wide stance because I have no balance when I try to stand "normally" without them and am constantly consciously self-correcting so that I don't topple over. I've slammed my face into so many closed doors not because I don't see them, but because of how shite my balance and proprioception are. I run up the stairs on all fours when I don't have my crutches because A) it helps me not fall over because I feel like I'm about to pass out whenever I stand up, B) it helps me not fall over because I have awful balance, and C) it takes the weight off my legs and makes it less likely that they're going to collapse beneath me, especially on bad days.
I feel like they're so fucking desperate to cure me so I can walk "normally", that they're less focused on my actual quality of life and more focused on getting me to stop the mobility aids that I've needed since seventh grade at least, and only just got in August of last year. I bet that if I told them I wanted a wheelchair (and have wanted since seventh grade because every time I stood up, I felt like I was going to pass out), they would be mortified and tell me that I'm just making things worse for myself. They act like I'm overreacting and exaggerating all of my experiences, meanwhile I haven't been able to write with a pencil--especially non-mechanical pencils--for longer than ten seconds because of how much pain I'm in; meanwhile I have to catch my breath whenever I sit down after walking more than ten feet; meanwhile I can't even use a lot of exercise equipment, especially for the legs, because after just thirty seconds it feels like my bad knee is stabbing me.
(Sorry about the vent, I'm just so fucking tired of this shit. Tl;dr, my physical therapists don't listen to me and act like because I have strong muscles, I actually don't need my mobility aids as much as I do because they personally think, after six 45-minute tops sessions where we barely talk about my abilities in the real world, that I'm basically healthy aside from chronic pain, meanwhile I regularly risk subluxating my hips and knees just walking the distance from the parking lot to the clinic where I go to see them.)
Oh no! I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. They should really know better. As a disabled person, you are the only one who truly knows what will work for you. If your mobility aids help you, keep using them, your PT's reaction and opinion be damned. It isn't about them. It's about you.
If walking without them increases your fall risk, use your crutches.

You're right, I'm no faker, I fought, I fought a lot. I've been to the hospital about 36 times in my life according to my health history, it wasn't until almost 3 years ago that I decided to actively try to improve my health.
I fought my body for so long to incorporate new food to my diet, mainly fruit, it's easy to eat and doesn't need prep, I still cannot eat vegetables, meat, pasta, or cooked food in general, I've never eaten warm, but I am proud of my successes even if they seem small, because they were so big for me, and I did them alone, my family still very much doesn't offer any support for my recovery aside from being slightly happy after I eat something new.
I started doing exercise and managed to gain weight, to feel better, had a new found strength and energy.
But there is only so much I can do. Two decades of barely any movement, of laying in beds and sofas, innumerable illnesses including ferropenic and pernicious anemias, family giving up on helping me eat human food, doctors giving up on me too, blaming me for my arfid as if I did it on purpose and telling me that I was gonna die; that cannot be cured by a single person through effort alone.
I struggle to breathe when speaking, my stamina is pathetic, even with all that I gained through exercise I'm still weaker than the average person. Standing, walking, sitting and laying down all cause me pain and I have recieved no medical help for it. All doctors tell me that I will not get my disability approved. Going outside of home, even for activities that I like, leaves me unable to do anything for the next day or next two days. My mental comorbities make it even worse, to the point that I've been kidnapped by my own body more than once. My immune system is awful, doctors always say it, and I probably should care more about it but it's all too much for a single person
I remember when I had regular chest stabby pains so strong that they left me unable to breathe or move for more than a minute, yet the doctors said 21 was too young for ansiolitics and just told me to do meditation. My knee locks constantly and goes out of place, but they blame it on flexibility, say there is nothing they can do and don't offer me any mobility aids. I expect nothing from doctors they are a waste of time.
I have done everything I can, or close to it. My body is failing on most fronts but I'm still alive, even though I still believe that I won't live long and it hurts so much, I want to be proven wrong, I want to prove those doctors wrong. I have fought to survive.

I somehow ended up on hEDS youtube and this video makes me go HMMMM. for a few years now i've had people ask me if I have hEDS or say they really think I do and should get reevaluated by a different doctor. I always have to say I don't have it because I failed the evaluation from the orthopedic specialist I saw for joint issues and chronic pain. she did the beighton test and gave me a 4/9 but you need at least 5.
after watching this, i've concluded she didn't even test me correctly? they say if you get a 4 but answer yes to things like could you put hands on the floor as a kid then it counts as a point. my hamstrings and back are so stiff and painful to bend forward, but I could do it as a kid. another is if you contorted yourself in weird ways to amuse your friends. I would always put both my legs behind my head at the same time to freak people out lmao. but according to my doctor, doing it as a kid doesn't count....and she didn't really evaluate anything else. she asked if I have the heart problems all the people in this video don't have, and if I had dislocations that specifically required professional medical attention....my parents forced my dislocated bits back into place as a kid. they refused to take me anywhere that cost them money lmao unless it was serious. like I wasn't allowed to go to the doctors when sick until I had bronchitis/pneumonia and could barely breathe. now I just get subluxation mostly which my doctor said I seem to get a lot of very often. that was it.
she didn't test for sketchy skin which I definitely have or those weird heel bumps I always thought were super gross and didn't even know had anything to do with this until now, or anything else from this video. also when she tested my knees, she grabbed one leg by the ankle while I was sitting and said my knee doesn't bend back, but they're all doing it while standing. i think my one knee at least looks like some of theirs from what I can tell, while standing?? but it doesn't do it while sitting because tight ass hamstrings. (don't remember if it's this video or a different one but having unstable hips and/or knees can cause extremely tight hamstrings and muscles apparently due to overcompensating for the instability which makes sense. my hips are so bad and knees pretty unstable too)
anyway. i had a lot of these things they covered on this diagnostic thing that my doctor did not go over and just told me I have "general hypermobility" and said it's not an issue and that my pain and and unstable joints are ~because I need to exercise more and exercising will cure it~ is what she basically said. not even concerned about the fact that I was there mainly because exercising fucked up my shoulder really badly and I told her how I fucked up my knee so bad once and couldn't even walk on it normally for months. also hips and wrists and etc. also my job is physical labor so.... exercise?? so instead of giving me things to help with my joints she just sent me to physical therapy to do shoulder workouts for one shoulder that I could only seem to do while the physical therapist was watching me and correcting me. once I did it at home, I hurt myself very quickly and could never finish the daily workouts 😅
I feel like there's a way better chance i'd have a higher score if it was done properly or I was evaluated with everything in this video, and not just denied right after scoring a 4 on the beighton test. but also impostor syndrome like what if i'm wrong....from what i've seen online in my googling, you have to have a 5+ in order to be allowed to say you have hEDS and self diagnosis isn't as accepted as it is for other things (like autism for example) because it's more specific and a "serious condition" so not sure if I can just say I have it despite it being very relatable. until I can figure out doctor stuff one day and see if I can pass a proper exam, I have to just keep saying I have "hypermobility issues with joint and muscle pain and other stuff and dont know why it's happening" whenever I talk about these problems....which is a mouthful (fingerful? if i'm typing it?)
unfortunately, I have no clue how to get a different doctor?? or if there's even anymore in my hospitals network, especially ones that know more about hEDS? I currently am not even sure what's going on with my primary. I was told he was moving offices and cutting down on how many patients he sees but would have his staff schedule me when he gets to the new place....that was over 2 years ago and im still waiting. I used to do checkups twice a year. idk what to do about it. I can't do phone calls. writing emails and stuff makes me anxious. when I contact them through the mychart app like refilling prescriptions, it comes up as a different doctor now. so not sure what's going on at all and don't know how to or feel comfortable asking???? trying to figure out medical stuff and communicate with medical staff is so overwhelming for me I rather lie down and cry instead of dealing with it lmao i need an adult! like a real one!!
if anyone wants to share info, related experiences, talk about your hEDS or hypermobility symptoms and problems, or anything else like that, feel free to share with a reblog or reply or go to my ask box!
#lee rambles#heds#hypermobile eds#hypermobility#hypermobile ehlers danlos#hypermobile joints#hypermobile spectrum disorder#big question is did the doctor suck at her job or am i just a little hypermobile and lazy and dont exercise enough and need to ignore pain🧐#know and am too overwhelmed to do anything about it. need support system that can help me and take me to doctors and advocate for me😭#but sadly dont have that D:#Youtube

Fic idea: Dean's adventures in physical therapy
Working title: Weak in the knees
Start of a Post-13x22 ficlet, with the knee pain and the stretching
Idea: As the Apocalypse World refugees settle into the bunker, Sam and company draw up a very detailed training regimen for all who seek to become official hunters. (Basically, Sam starts a puketacular morning jogging group and Not-Bobby and Mary hog the bunker gym.)
Dean tries his darnedest to become invisible, but on one particular "sore-knee day," a refugee named Jules corners him against the punching bag. Turns out she's a former physical therapist. Her directive? "Work on your tight hips and weak abductors." She makes it a whole friggin' routine.
But the stretches and strengthening exercises are easier said than done, especially when an exuberant Jack takes an interest the subject. If his poking and prodding ain't bad enough, he drags Cas into the madness, and Dean's hope of "relaxing into the stretch" are blown to smithereens.
///
01
Dean startles awake and gets that uncomfortable, topsy-turvy, where-the-Hell-am-I feeling.
Oh. Bunker's library.
Holy shit. They really did make it home.
Not still in Not-Bobby's refugee camp, wringing their hands over how to get fifty folks through a quickly vanishing rift.
Dean looks around. Doesn't recognize half the people strewn about in library chairs. Two of them are flanked by small piles of vomit. Gross. Like a made-for-TV college party film.
His gaze lands on not-Charlie, and even though it's not her, his heart swells up like a balloon. She's rubbing her eyes and yawning, and when her eyes meet Dean's, she looks cagey and unsure.
"Well, that was some party," pipes Arthur-freakin'-Ketch from somewhere near her feet. He sways to his feet, then nudges his elbow into her ribs, like they're friggin' besties or somethin.
"If there were less clothes in the fray, you'd think a spectacular orgy had taken place here." He throws an arm around her waist and cackles, squeezing her faux-gentlemanly.
Which is weird. That's weird, right?
Maybe they are besties.
Charlie rolls her eyes and extricates herself.
"You're not my kinda pretty," she rasps. She too gets unsteadily to her feet. "God. This is not where my ten-year college plan put me."
"Stranded in an entirely unfamiliar world and hungover from the world's most smashing victory party?" Ketch asks, too happily and not at all like the Arthur Ketch Dean had been acquainted with during his British Men of Letters run.
"Ung," Charlie answers, screwing up her eyes and massaging her temples.
Sam chooses that moment to enter, looking fresh and definitely not hungover like the rest of them.
Asshole.
Dean wonders where Cas and Jack are. Or Mom.
They'd all really made it back. It feels surreal, like they've finally caught a real break.
"Oh, geez," Sam sniffs, taking in the state of the room and sniffing like the princess he is. "I offered to get you guys set up in rooms last night--"
Several of the guys raise their hands and groan hopefully, little white flags of desperation waving in the air.
"---and the offer's still open, if any of you can walk."
Most of the guys make it to their feet, but a coupla the the blackout drunks fare pretty badly. Dean sees Sam shiver in disgust when he notices the vomit.
"You get to clean that," Sam says to Arthur Ketch. "That is, if you want to stay."
"That's not proper fair, now is it?" Ketch huffs, and when Charlie nods at him, he actually relents and gives Sam an acquiescent shrug.
"Yes. Why not?"
It's strange to see how much sway this Charlie has over him.
Finally, Dean nods a morning greeting to his brother and gets to his feet.
Chive and smoked cheddar pancakes are on the menu for a quick hangover cure, but damn if his knees aren't sore as Hell. He limps towards the kitchen. The Apocalypse world terrain had not been kind to any of his joints.
///
"So, let me get this straight," Mary says later, swiveling her orange juice over a plate of simmering bacon. "You plan to lecture these guys on the ways of this world, and then turn them loose?"
"Relocate them," Sam corrects. "And whoever wants to, can stay here, in the Bunker with us. That's what it was originally for."
Dean tries not to balk. It's true. This had been a communal hideaway for hunters--
"And what if they have legal doppelgangers?" Mary presses.
"We're already on that," Sam sighs, "and most of them don't, by the way."
"Funny how the butterfly effect works like that," Dean calls from where he's bent low over the stove, so close that the heat from the pan dampens his cheeks.
Not-Bobby is quiet and surly in his corner seat, back to the wall.
"I thought you told us we'd still be in the fight," he grouses finally, turning hard eyes on Sam. "I thought you told us we'd be looking for a way to save our world. To go back and gank that sonuva-bitch-Michael."
"And I meant it," Sam rushes hastily, turning his eyes over to Dean in a panic, looking for support. "But I think it's only fair to offer anyone who wants an out an actual out."
Bobby stares at all of them, considering.
"Whoever wants to fight can stay in the fight," Sam tacks on, "We'll train them. Rest and recover the rest. Cas can heal whoever's not up to speed, and we can start a fresh training program."
Dean's not sure he likes the sound of that.
He looks over to Mary, and she looks back at him, chewing her lip nervously.
"Fine," Bobby grumps. "That's fair. We recuperate. No sure anyone's gonna let that angel touch 'em though." He raises his eyebrows at Dean, like his opinion matters when it comes to this. "No offense."
Dean purses his lips.
Whatever.
Sam looks unsure at that reaction, but recovers.
"Right. There's a gym here," he says, too proudly, like he wants to impress this Bobby.
"Well, what haven't you got here," Bobby sighs, sounding resigned.
///
02
After Bobby leaves, trudging off to whatever room he'd been set up in, Mary rounds on his baby bro.
“Sam,” she hisses, “That was…”
She breathes out, trying to get her nerves under control.
“What?” he asks, looking genuinely perplexed by her reaction.
Poor Sam. Sometimes, he just doesn’t get it.
Dean flips another chive-and-smoked cheddar pancake, adding it to his rapidly-growing stack. He throws more batter to the skillet and shoves one of the cooling cakes into his mouth. He chews and continues to watch Mom struggle for words.
He swallows. “What she means is, you’re moving a little fast there, Sammy. Slow the Hell down, yanno? We've not even been back a day."
Sam bristles.
“Having a plan isn’t incompatible with rest,” he protests. “I didn’t mean we weren’t going to rest. I-Bobby sounded like he wanted to jump into hunting for ways to beat Michael. You both heard him.”
“What Bobby says and what Bobby needs are two different things, Sam,” Mary sighs, and she down her glass of OJ.
She’s probably a little hungover, too, Dean realizes, so he slides two pancakes onto a plate and crosses the room to give them to her.
“Thanks,” she says absently, and she grabs one of them bare-handed. She shoves nearly the entire thing in her mouth. Then, “Jesus, Dean.” She turns her attention to the cakes more fully and promptly gobbles more of them them down.
“Don't choke. And hey, these’re good for hangovers,” he explains, winking. "Real savory."
It feels so unbelievably good to have her back here.
And Hell. Maybe Sam’s plan is a good one, after all. With some structure, she might actually stay here this time. It’d be cool to have not-Bobby, too. Even if it is weird.
“And yeah, maybe a plan is good,” he amends, throwing Sam a bone. “It just needs to be slow, right? No one wants to get up at ass o'clock in the morning and go running with you. Capische?”
The sounds of footsteps breaks the flow of the conversation.
Dean' had 's barely paid attention to the individual refugees, especially with all the angel shit that'd been swinging their way. So, the last group he expects this early in the morning is the adorable little family that waltzes in.
There’s a plain-looking couple and two little girls, and he’s one hundred percent sure they all just heard him say ass o'clock.
The dad’s clad in hunter uniform: blue Henley and green plaid overshirt. Mom’s in a sweater and blue jeans. Little girls're wearing denim overalls and dress.
All look freshly laundered.
“Oh,” sweater-woman says, looking awkward as her eyes slide to Mary in question. “I’m sorry. Are we interrupting?”
“No, no!” Sam hurries to say, flustered in that clumsy Sammy-boy way. “You’re not. You must be--”
“I’m hungry! Mary, pwease,” the littlest girl cuts in, bratty and grumpy in the way that only little kids can be. She tugs on her pink dress, then clutches an old stuffed monkey like she’s trying to suffocate it.
“Lily, shush,” the older sister bosses, grabbing her shoulder and pulling her back.
In reply, the littlest girl, Lily, shoves at her sister angrily. They’re maybe ten and six, Dean thinks, trying to hide his grin at their antics.
Mary seems equally charmed by them.
“Of course you are, Lily,” she says, walking over and crouching down to her eye level. “Don’t worry. We’ll scrounge up something for you.” Then, to the parents: “I don’t think we all met formally. Things were…tough at the camp.”
“It’s fine, Mary,” the man says, looking too earnest, “We owe you everything. You and Jack.”
“Caleb, Billy–these are my sons. This is Dean. This is Sam.”
Dean strolls back over to the pan and flips another pancake.
“Nice to meet you,” he says, tone just a shade too rough, like Charlie’s had been. “Both of you. And your princesses are--?”
The older sister puffs up her chest, putting proud little thumbs in the straps of her overalls. “I’m Dana. This is Lily.”
“I’m not a princess,” Lily gripes, scowling. “I’m a knight.”
“Of course you are,” Sam throws in, a little awkwardly.
Mary throws a smile over her shoulder at Dean, then turns back to them.
“Do you guys like cheddar pancakes?"
The older girl, Dana, pulls a face, because of course she does. What little girl would want hangover pancakes?
"That sounds gross.”
Lily, on the other hand, seems to take it as a challenge, “Well, I’m not scared of grownup food.” She turns her attention to Dean, “Mom always says Dana’s a picky eater.”
This kid’s got spunk in spades.
Dean laughs.
“Spoken like a true knight.”
Lily beams.
“Lily,” blue-shirt-dad-guy-Caleb admonishes quietly, and then he locks eyes with Dean in apology. “I’m sorry. Cereal or anything would be fine. O-or we can walk to a store if there’s one nearby.”
“I already went grocery shopping this morning,” Sam announces happily. “We’ve got all kinds of cereal: Raisin Bran, Golden Flax, Cheerios.”
Dean shakes his head with a proud smile. Leave it to friggin’ Sammy to get up at the buttcrack of dawn for complete strangers. The family stares at him with a look of total confusion, though, like they haven’t heard of any of these cereals, and Sam’s grin falters.
“What’s cereal?” Lily stage-whispers, and Dean huffs out a laugh.
On the other hand, had things had been so bad over there that the littlest one hasn’t even heard of cereal?
On Sam’s wavering smile and Mary’s nervous frown, they must be thinking the same thing. Dean steps in.
He doesn’t really wanna cook when he’s got a hangover from Hell, but the girls are pretty damn cute.
“Okay, well. How about regular pancakes then?”
Lily squeals.
///
03
///
Dean winds up finishing up the stack of hangover pancakes before making regular pancakes, banana pancakes, and cinnamon pancakes.
Mary scrapes together some bacon, and after burning a few strips, she seems to get the hang of the temperature.
Sam is almost useless, except that he puts on a fresh pot of coffee and makes incessant small talk with Caleb and Billy, or “the Sanders family,” as Dean soon learns to call them.
The oldest girl, Dana, seems pretty taken with Sam, marveling at his height and telling him all about how much she’d liked the shower in The Bunker.
Turns out she’d not had a real bath in the entire eight months before coming here.
Lily, on the other hand, scowls at almost everyone and keeps looking expectantly at Dean.
When he brings a stack of pancakes and bacon to the table, she shouts, “Finally!” before digging in.
Turns out, she likes the hangover cheddar pancakes best of all.
///
Before too long, the smell of cinnamon lures Jack into the kitchen, just like Dean hoped it would.
He’s surprised to see that the kid actually looks bad.
Exhausted-like. Exhausted like he’s been fighting a war. Which, of course, Dean reminds himself, he has.
Jack hovers in the doorway for a few moments, like he’s not sure if he’s welcome inside, which is ridiculous. The Bunker is more the kid’s home than any of these friggin’ refugees.
“Jack, come getcha a hot one,” he says gruffly, and Jack shoots him a surprised glance before shuffling over. “Come on,” Dean urges, trying to banish that damn impersonal hesitancy of his. “You like the cinnamon crap, right?”
Jack sniffs the air, like he’s trying his darnedest not to look too excited. “Yes. How did you--?”
“I have eyes. You always eat the sweet stuff. Here.” Dean slides a stack of four onto a plate and shoves it the kid’s way without looking at him directly.
Jack’s eyes grow even bigger, and Dean sees his fingertips flex on the plate. “Th-thank you.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Dean mumbles. “Welcome home. By the way.”
Jack seizes up. He takes in a quick little breath, and then he nods.
As Jack makes his way over to the secondary table Sam had set up in the middle of the kitchen, Dean sees Mary staring sidelong at him, sappy and happy-looking.
Jeez.
It's not that bigga deal.
She puts on more bacon. Dean pours more batter.
///
It’s quickly apparent how much Lily likes Jack.
She tells Sam loudly all about how Jack can fly and protect them from “sky-fire” and how he can even make special animal shadow shows.
After she finishes her cheddar pancakes, she clambers over to the table where Jack’s at and plops herself into the chair right next to him. She starts asking him a shit-ton of random questions, like: “What’s your favorite color? Have you ever seen a giraffe? Can you fly all the way to the moon?”
“Lily,” Billy-the-sweater-mom warns, and Lily shoot her a guilty gaze.
“Bobby says he’s a good angel,” she fires back, defensive. Sweater-mom jolts. (Almost like "angel" is some kind of filthy swear-word.)
Mary’s eyes cut over to them sharply, shifting rapidly from Jack to Billy, like she’s thinking about inserting herself into the conversation.
Dean catches movement in the corner of his eye, and he’s relieved to see that Cas has finally made his appearance in the doorway. He locks eyes with Dean and gives him a curt, good-morning nod.
Hey, Dean thinks, unnaturally relieved to see him.
Probably because of all the friggin' people.
(It's overwhelming round here.)
Meanwhile, sweater-mom lets out a shaky laugh.
“No, No. Honey, I know. We trust Jack.” She gives Jack a watered down smile, and he tentatively returns it. “That’s not…I just don’t want you to make him tired, that’s all. Jack’s been fighting for us non-stop, and he looks exhausted, Sweetie. Let him eat something.”
Lily squints at Jack, biting her lips.
“Yeah," she whispers. "You do look tired.” On a wave of frantic inspiration, she shouts, “I can help! I’ll get you a drink!” Too exuberantly, she scoots her chair back and trips.
Dean’s not fast enough to get to her.
No one is.
She lands hard on her elbow, and then she gives a little muted cry of surprise. It’s too quiet, like she’s spent an entire lifetime learning not to sound off her signs of distress.
“Oh, Lily!” the sister growls, sounding exasperated. “You’re so clumsy.”
Jack scoots his own chair out in alarm, but Cas beats them all to Lily’s side. He carefully crouches down next to her, dipping his head gently, like a hawk baring its neck to a little bluejay.
Like, I won't hurt you.
But Cas’s superhuman speed has an immediate chilling effect.
The Sanders couple immediately get to their feet, like they're going off instinct. Billy the sweater-mom starts gasping, like she’s fighting down a panic attack, and Dean sees the Caleb the henley-dad wrap a fist aggressively round his fork.
Makeshift weapon. Huh?
Oh.
They don’t like that Cas is a full-blooded, bonafide angel. No matter how much he's helped them so far. Dean taps Mary’s shoulder, silently urging her to man the food, and then he strides over to jump into the fray.
“Hey. Whoa, whoa,” he says, putting himself between them. “It’s just Cas. We trust Cas, too, all right?”
Henley-dad-guy makes a pained noise, and Jack slowly gets to his feet, trying to look unthreatening and in control.
“It’s okay, Billy…Caleb. Cas is my,” he seems to struggle for the right word. “Well, he’s my dad.”
Cas’s head whips up to Jack, something unreadable passing over his face.
Peripherally, Dean sees Caleb put a hand on his wife'e shoulder and nudge her behind him. “That means he’s a-a-?”
“I’m an angel, yes,” Cas says firmly. “I will not harm your daughter, though I can’t blame you for being cautious of me.” His smile turns wry. “I’d say your reticence is very wise.”
Caleb-Henley-dad-guy seems to relax a little bit.
“Okay,” he says cautiously.
“May I see your elbow?” Cas says, turning gentle eyes to Lily. His voice is a deep rumble: “That looks like some bruise.”
Lily winces.
“Yeah, but I’m brave. It doesn’t hurt all that much,” she quips.
When she brings her little elbow forward, Dean hears sweater-mom take in another rattling gasp.
Calm down, Lady. Yeesh.
“You certainly are brave,” Cas agrees, brushing his fingertips just barely along her skin. “You fall scared even me. May I fix your bruise?”
Lily turns her eyes to her frozen parents and licks her lips nervously. Next, she tracks her eyes to Dean, and finally she looks to Jack.
“If he’s Jack’s daddy,” she says, shifting her gaze to her own father and then back to Cas, “Then he’s safe.”
Dean nods at Cas, and Cas sends a flutter of grace into her arm.
Lily’s mouth opens in a small, silent, “oh,” but she doesn’t look afraid. Instead, she seems struck as she stares up into Cas’s eyes. Then, she wiggles her elbow and rotates it around happily.
“Oh,” she whispers. “You did fix it. Thank you.”
Dean grins.
"Yup. That's Cas."

I grew up having a lot of back and joint pain. Specifically in my knees, hips, and hands. Thankfully my mom listened to my complaints BUT it was the doctors who kept putting it off. It was either they came right out and said I was too fat and needed to lose weight or they would give me some basic diagnosis that has no cure but the only way to deal with it is diet and exercise. Pretty much either way they just kept saying my pain was caused by my weight. This all started at like 14/15? (Actually now that I think about it I was like 10 or 11 because I was constantly spraining my ankles and wrists and my doctor knew something was wrong but didn't really know what) And it wasn't till 17 till I got a hip surgery (which ended up not helping because the surgeon left a whole bunch of scar tissue in there causing more pain down the line and now it'll give out every now and then) and about 20/21? After years of unnecessary injections in my hands and physical therapy for my back and hips and constantly being called fat, I finally was sent to the proper specialist and was finally diagnosed with Ankylosis Spondylitis. Pretty much all of my bones/joints are slowly starting to fuse together making it hard to move around and honestly just function basically most days. And since it took so long to diagnose it it ended up causing rheumatoid arthritis in my back. I also have minor bulging discs as well caused by both because my back is so sensitive. Something that should have been caught in my childhood not being caught till adult hood has caused more damage and making it a bit harder to slow down the effects. It's already advanced so much. I'm 27 with the body of a 80 year old. I'll have to live the rest of my life on pills, and at home injections because unfortunately no other injections are going to faze the pain from the A.S.
Hot tip for parents both present and future: When your kid tells you something is wrong, listen to them!
Sorry for not posting much lately, I’ve been busy with work and personal stuff, including an upcoming spinal x-ray I’ve been waiting over a decade for and the angriest doctor I’ve ever met in my life

How To Get Rid Of Knee Pain
Source : https://ext-6616953.livejournal.com/474.html?newpost=1
October 12 is being celebrated as World Arthritis Day (WAD) to raise global awareness about all facets of the disease. Knee arthritis is expected to emerge as the fourth most common cause of physical disability in India. About 15 crore Indians suffer from knee problems, out of which 4 crores need a total knee replacement, imposing a considerable health burden on the society and country ( Times of India).
The knee is the largest joint in our body.It is made up of four main things that are bones, ligaments, cartilage and tendons. When something happens to any one of these parts leads to knee pain. Apart from that our knees suffer from a lot of problems due to the amount of work they do on an average day like heading out on a hike, doing daily house chores, etc. Our knees are always playing the part in our lives and pain relief of knee joints is important to go through daily life activities.
Causes of Knee Pain
Injury in muscle due to sprains and strains caused by exercise; torn ligament or tendon; tendonitis between the kneecap and shin; a dislocated kneecap
Osteoarthritis
Damage to the cartilage.
Bursitis is a condition in which a small fluid sac in the knee is inflamed.
Prevention is better than cure, reasons are many but the cure of the knee pain is necessary to carry out the day to day life activities with ease. The cure for the knee pain is many but opting for the correct treatment according to symptoms is a main concern for the patient.
A minor pain and injury on the knee can be cured by home remedies. Some of them are as follows:
RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) is the most used step for all types of joint pain.
Slipping into that perfect pair of heels/shoes can really complete an outfit, prevent knee present and future pain.
Acupuncture is a beneficial and complementary knee pain remedy as it blocks certain pain messages from being passed on to the brain relieving the knee pain.
Exercising and stretching recommended by the physiotherapist also help to prevent knee pain.
Maintaining a healthy body weight also releases stress from the knee and thus prevents early pain.
Reducing the stress level via meditation, yoga, or a good night’s sleep, can help manage your chronic knee pain.
Not all knee pains lead to serious complications apart from severe knee injuries and certain conditions, like osteoarthritis, which leads to increased pain, joint destruction, and disability if left unattended. In such cases a visit to the doctor is necessary. This type of pain cannot be relieved at home and proper treatment prescribed by the doctor must be followed. Some of the treatment are as follows:
Medications of anti-inflammatory drugs are helpful to reduce pain and tenderness and treat the conditions causing knee pain, like rheumatoid arthritis or gout.
Physical therapy sessions and different strengthening exercises recommended by the doctor based on the particular condition causing the pain. In specific conditions, different kinds of braces or splints may be advised to support the knee joint.
Injecting injections directly to the joint. The types of injections are as follows:
Corticosteroids : It provides pain relief that lasts for a few months.
Hyaluronic acid: It is injected into the knees to significantly improve mobility and relieve pain.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP): This decreases inflammation and promotes healing of the damaged tissues.
Stem cells: It helps to regenerate the knee joint.
Surgical intervention is required in cases where all other conservative treatment methods have stopped working and the knee pain is getting worse day by day. Some of the surgical options are as follows:
Arthroscopic surgery: It is done to withdraw loose bodies from the knee joint, repair the damaged cartilage in the locking phase of the knee, and reconstruct damaged structures.
Partial knee replacement surgery: This surgery replaces only the most damaged compartments of the knee with implants of metal and plastic
Total knee replacement: It is done by the doctor, removes the impaired bone and cartilage from the femur, tibia, and patella and interchanges them with an artificial joint composed of metallic alloys, high-grade plastics, and polymers.
Osteotomy: It involves cutting a segment of bone from the femur or tibia to achieve better knee alignment and relieves pain.
Conclusion
All knee pain is not serious, but some knee injuries need medical attention such as osteoarthritis which can lead to increasing pain, joint damage and disability if left untreated. It is always advisable to visit a doctor to treat your knee pain with proper treatment and self care, as in the modern era everything is possible if the correct action is taken at the right time. I believe that today's generation want to enjoy their life to the fullest extent but are not very health conscious and also due to the increased life expectancy due to the modern medical system leads to increased cases of knee replacement of the aging population. A healthy lifestyle and proper medical guidance would definitely help to reduce knee pain instances.

PRECAUTIONS TO HELP AVOID BACK INJURIES: PROTECTING YOUR SPINE AND LIVING PAIN-FREE
Back injuries can be debilitating, affecting people of all ages and professions. Whether you have a sedentary desk job, engage in physically demanding work, or lead an active lifestyle, taking precautions to protect your back is essential. As the foundation of our body, the spine plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. It supports our body weight, ensures our mobility, and encases the central nervous system, facilitating communication between the brain and other body parts. Given its central role, it’s crucial to maintain spinal health and prevent back injuries. As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure,” so let’s explore how to protect our spine and live a pain-free life.
Understanding the Spine
Before diving into preventive measures, it’s essential to understand the spine’s basic structure. It consists of 33 individual bones called vertebrae, divided into different sections: cervical (neck), thoracic (middle back), lumbar (lower back), sacrum, and coccyx (tailbone). Between each vertebra, we have intervertebral discs acting as shock absorbers and preventing bones from rubbing against each other. Ligaments and tendons connect these vertebrae and discs, while muscles provide movement and stability.
Risk Factors for Back Injuries
Several risk factors can increase the likelihood of back injuries. Age is a common one, as the spine naturally degenerates over time. Occupational hazards, including jobs that require heavy lifting or long periods of sitting or standing, can also contribute. Lifestyle factors like obesity, sedentary behavior, smoking, and poor physical fitness are significant contributors. Being aware of these factors is the first step toward prevention.
Precautions to Prevent Back Injuries in Dubuque
1. MAINTAIN A GOOD POSTURE
Proper posture is the cornerstone of spinal health. Whether you’re standing, sitting, or lying down, it’s essential to keep your spine properly aligned. While standing, keep your shoulders back and relaxed, tuck in your stomach, and balance your weight evenly on both feet. When sitting, especially for long periods, choose a chair that supports your lower back, keep your feet flat on the floor, and take frequent breaks to stand and stretch.
To avoid back injuries, practice maintaining proper posture while sitting, standing, and walking:
a. While sitting: Sit with your back against the chair and your feet flat on the floor. Use a chair with good lumbar support or place a cushion to support the natural curve of your lower back.
b. While standing: Keep your weight evenly distributed on both feet, avoid locking your knees, and engage your core muscles to support your spine.
2. LIFT PROPERLY
Improper lifting techniques can lead to severe back injuries. Whether you’re lifting heavy objects at work or performing everyday tasks at home, follow these guidelines to protect your back:
a. Bend your knees and hips, not your back, when lifting heavy objects. Keep the object close to your body and maintain a straight back throughout the lift.
b. Avoid twisting your spine while carrying a heavy load. Instead, pivot your feet to turn your body.
c. If an object is too heavy or awkward to lift safely on your own, ask for assistance or use mechanical aids like dollies or carts.
3. STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE
Engaging in exercises and activities that target and build the muscles in your abdomen, lower back, and pelvis. A strong core provides stability and support for your spine, improves posture, and enhances overall physical performance and balance.
a. Planks, bridges, and leg raises are excellent core-strengthening exercises that promote stability and reduce the risk of back injuries.
b. Incorporate exercises like yoga and Pilates into your routine to enhance flexibility and promote proper alignment.
4. STAY ACTIVE AND EXERCISE REGULARLY
Regular physical activity is essential for overall health and maintaining a healthy back. Incorporate a combination of cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and flexibility exercises into your routine:
a. Swimming, cycling, and brisk walking are low-impact exercises that can help keep your back healthy.
b. Strength training exercises, such as squats and deadlifts (with proper form), can strengthen your back muscles and improve spine stability.
c. Stretching exercises like cat-cow, cobra, and hamstring stretches help maintain flexibility and prevent muscle tightness.
5. ERGONOMICS AT WORK AND HOME
Invest in ergonomic furniture to help maintain good posture, particularly if your job requires long hours of sitting. An ergonomic chair supports the natural curve of your spine and encourages good posture. Whether you work in an office or from home, ergonomics play a crucial role in preventing back injuries:
a. Adjust your chair height, desk height, and monitor position to ensure proper alignment and reduce strain on your back.
b. Use a supportive chair with good lumbar support and consider using an ergonomic keyboard and mouse.
6. AVOID PROLONGED SITTING AND INACTIVITY
Sitting for extended periods can lead to muscle stiffness and weaken your back. Incorporate regular breaks into your day to move and stretch:
a. Set reminders to take short breaks every hour and perform simple stretches to release tension in your back.
b. Invest in a standing desk to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day.
7. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT
Excess body weight puts additional pressure on the spine, leading to back pain. Hence, maintaining a healthy diet rich in calcium and vitamin D is necessary for a healthy back. Both nutrients are essential for bone health and can help prevent osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and can lead to fractures. Excess weight places additional strain on the spine, increasing the risk of back injuries:
a. Maintain a balanced diet and engage in regular physical activity to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
b. Shedding excess pounds can alleviate pressure on your back and improve overall mobility.
8. PRACTICE MINDFUL LIFTING AND MOVEMENT
Mindful movements can significantly reduce the risk of back injuries. Whether you’re at work, at home, or participating in recreational activities, be aware of your body and how you’re moving:
a. Avoid sudden jerking movements or overexerting yourself during physical activities.
b. When performing repetitive tasks, take breaks to change positions and avoid strain on specific muscles.
How can Chiropractic Care in Dubuque Help to Avoid Back Injuries
Chiropractic care is a health profession dedicated to the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system, typically through spinal adjustments. It has been effectively used to treat various conditions, including back pain and injuries at Tri-States Chiropractic Health and Injury Care. Here’s how chiropractic care can help avoid back injuries:
Spinal Alignment
Chiropractors are trained to identify misalignments or subluxations in the spine. By performing spinal adjustments, they can realign the vertebrae, which helps improve posture and reduce the stress on surrounding muscles, ligaments, and nerves. A properly aligned spine reduces the risk of strains and injuries.
Corrective Exercises
Chiropractors often recommend specific exercises and stretches to strengthen the core muscles that support the spine. These exercises improve flexibility and balance, reducing the likelihood of falls and other incidents that can lead to back injuries.
Ergonomic Advice
Chiropractors can provide valuable guidance on maintaining proper posture and ergonomics both at work and at home. This advice includes recommendations for setting up workstations, lifting objects correctly, and maintaining good posture during daily activities to minimize strain on the back.
Prevention through Regular Checkups
Regular chiropractic checkups can identify minor issues before they become major problems. By detecting and addressing potential imbalances or misalignments early on, chiropractic care can prevent the development of more significant back injuries in the future.
Lifestyle and Nutritional Counseling
Chiropractors often provide advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and exercise. By adopting healthier habits and maintaining a healthy weight, individuals can reduce the stress on their spines and decrease the risk of back injuries.
Back Pain Precautions and Chiropractic Care
In conclusion, prioritizing back pain precautions and incorporating chiropractic care can significantly contribute to a healthier and pain-free life. By implementing simple yet effective measures like maintaining proper posture, exercising regularly, and lifting objects correctly, individuals can reduce the risk of back injuries both at work and at home. Moreover, seeking professional chiropractic care from Tri-States Chiropractic Health and Injury Care, located in Dubuque, is a proactive step in promoting spinal health. Their skilled chiropractors can provide spinal adjustments, corrective exercises, ergonomic advice, and lifestyle counseling to address potential issues and prevent back injuries. HealthMate Charms with Hi Tech Saunas That Excite Health and Wellness Freaks
The bliss and wellness experienced after sweating in a sauna are legion. That excitement doubles as sauna experiences get shared on social media with exotic names like Jeju Sauna hailing the treatment as novel experiences.
Saunas offer relaxation and improved cardiovascular health. In principle, a sauna is a room in which people relax in the dry heat. The imbibed cardiovascular health is akin to what one gets from exercise, according to experts.
There is a surge in aspiration to install saunas at home to leverage an assortment of benefits, such as reducing stress, improving cardiovascular health, and curing body pain and joint pain. Home saunas in the United States (U.S.) have crossed the million-dollar market, according to market experts.
A slew of sauna brands have fueled the appetite of customers. Health Mate Sauna is an example with its products, like Health Mate Elevated Health Sauna with quality infrared detox therapy and premium methods aimed at deep healing.
The Health Mate elevated sauna is also a luxury experience that provides more than just better health and wellness. It is also about upgrading the infrared sauna experience to the next level.
More space is accrued for the refreshing process by using the Elevated Health sauna, which can accommodate 2 to 4 people with 2-level seating. It also provides greater privacy via glass windows, exterior lighting, an ergonomic bench, interior and exterior controllers, a floor heater, a back heater, a high-power diode along with an infrared LED, and much more.
In the flagship Elevated Health Sauna, with 2-level seating for 2–4 people, there is a facility for rapid sweating on the two levels. With the two rows of bench seating, there is a choice for couples to recline alone or enjoy with the entire family.
The comfort factor in the HealthMate Sauna is further stretched in the Healthmate lounge therapy. Here, the goal is faster sweating with a built-in lounger. Market watchers say it is the ultimate sauna for individuals with big heights. Even 6-footers and above can fully lie down.
For hiking user comfort, the integrated built-in lounger has employed a bench that supports the head, back, and knees. If any buyers are scouting for a luxury sauna with plenty of room, then the HealthMate lounge is for them.
Health Mate enjoys a technological edge over competitors with its surgical-grade stainless steel ceramic heaters and a reliable warranty. In traditional saunas like the Finnish one, dry heat is applied with humidity kept very low, from 10 to 20 percent.
There are also saunas with high moisture content or humidity. As the sauna interior jacks up the skin temperature to 40°C and above, the sweating that follows perks up the heart rate. This causes the body to cool, and there will be a profuse release of sweat, giving a rejuvenated feel at home.

4 Natural Methods for Arthritis Pain Relief!
Any progress in natural pain relief is welcome news for millions of adults who struggle with arthritis.
A recent study suggests that the spice turmeric may provide some relief.
Researchers in Australia found that taking turmeric supplements relieved knee pain from osteoarthritis more effectively than placebos or standard medications.
The outcomes were modest but provide additional support for similar results from previous small studies.
The effects appear to be related to the ingredient curcumin in turmeric that has anti-inflammatory properties.
It typically has fewer side effects than many pain medications, and it’s convenient. You can take turmeric as supplements, drink it as tea, or cook with it using powder or sliced roots.
As long as you follow your doctor’s recommendations, turmeric and other forms of natural pain relief can be a beneficial supplement to medical care.
Consider these other healthy changes.
Anti-Inflammatory Diets for Arthritis Pain
There is no one food or diet that will cure arthritis. However, many foods are known to increase or decrease inflammation. What you eat and what you avoid can make a big difference.
Consider these recommendations:
Eat whole foods. Highly processed items like hot dogs and candy are a major cause of inflammation. Get most of your calories from foods rich in nutrients and fiber, including vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
Limit sugar. The added sugar in foods can trigger inflammation too. Check labels and drink water instead of sweetened beverages.
Choose healthy fats. The American Heart Association recommends getting no more than 6% of your daily calories from saturated fats. Cut back on red meat, and enjoy more olive oil, fatty fish, nuts, and seeds.
Drink tea. The polyphenols in tea can reduce inflammation and other symptoms of arthritis. Smart choices include ginger, chamomile, and green teas.
Lose weight. Being overweight stresses your joints. Losing just 10 pounds can take 30 or more pounds of pressure off your knees with each step you take. Adopt sensible eating habits you can stick with, like watching portion sizes and preparing meals at home rather than dining out.
Other Natural Methods for Relieving Arthritis Pain
Along with a nutritious diet, exercise and other healthy habits can slow down arthritis too.
Try these techniques:
Work out. Exercise tones your body, building up muscle and reducing fat. Design a balanced fitness program with strength training, cardio activities, full body stretches, and balance exercises. Check with your doctor if you’ve been sedentary or have safety concerns.
Apply heat. Both heat and cold can relieve pain, so experiment to see what works for you. Buy heat packs and other items at your local drugstore or make your own versions at home, like microwaving a damp towel in an open zip lock plastic bag.
Wear a patch. Look for pain relieving patches and creams with natural ingredients. For example, many brands use capsaicin, the same ingredient that makes chili peppers hot.
Reduce stress. Relaxation activities have helped many patients dealing with arthritis or other forms of chronic pain. Changing the way you think about physical sensations can make you more comfortable too.
Appropriate medical care and positive lifestyle changes can help you protect your joints and make arthritis easier to live with. Talk with your doctor about turmeric and other natural methods for pain relief to make sure they’re safe for you.
