🖤 Quiet kid that used the after school theater program to delay returning home. Never wanted to perform, but loved doing costumes, make up, and correcting others (in his mind) on how to portray their roles.
🖤 Spent a little extra time perfecting the costumes of a certain someone who didn't even know they existed. He always traded house chores with his sister so she'd sit in the audience to solely film Tree #2's performance.
🖤 Was an apprentice special effects makeup artist after graduation at first, particularly for horror films, but it didn't exactly pay the bills when they left home.

💖 Normally an actress and casting director, first time as an executive producer for the drama. Dreams of bringing her own romantic screenplays to life. Hasn't quite proven herself the way she wants in the industry to feel confident enough in them.
💖 Catalyst for the drama being made. A "friend" mistakenly recommended the 14DWY book to her. She absolutely loathes all the psychological horror of it but sees the potential it has.
💖 Also the reason [REDACTED] was immediately cast, and you as well once she saw your chemistry with him while reading for a minor role. He hadn't shown a fraction of as much interest when reading lines with other potential candidates, so she decided to take the risk of an untested talent as the headliner.
💖 Refuses to use her family's name to get her stuff made. She wants her works to speak for themselves. Very picky about who she works with due to her family having hands in most of Corland's entertainment industry so she hardly gets a genuine interaction beyond ass-kissing.
💖 Always partial to working with Conan's small studio since he was the only director to give her any sort of criticism in spite of her family, as gentle and polite as it was. She still cried a little in the dressing room though.
💖 Genuine confusion when Conan wants her to act as both a producer and assist with direction. She only intended to bring it to his interest. But how could she say no to someone whose judgment and opinion she respects so much?
Conan
💖 Runs and owns a small scale studio in the Bay that seems to pick and choose its productions at random. It is in fact Alice sneaking into her dad's home office and putting scented stickers on the ones she likes. (She only reads the titles)
💖 Extremely proud of Elanor for getting so far on her own, and would take on one of her dozens of scripts no questions asked if she'd only work up the courage to show him one. So imagine his surprise when she comes to him with a romantic horror instead of one of the fairy tale romances he sees her scribbling notes on during breaks.
💖 While he’s the one with the final say, he does try to let Elanor have as much free reign as possible on the project in the hopes to boost her confidence.
Kiara
💖 A super-star actress and model that got her start in Corland’s local industry, but quickly hit it big.
💖 When she isn’t drowning in work, she’ll swing through town to check in on her sister.
💖 Desperately wants to star in one of Elanor’s productions, but respects her sister’s desire for independence. Though she does like to tease about certain casting decisions on the drama when made aware of them.

Moth
💖 Started a talent agency out of spite for the terrible castings in their favorite media. Got further invested upon realizing they could read the scripts before the movies or show adaptations were even announced.
💖 The one who pushed you to audition for a minor role in the production once the rumor about who was cast as the main love interest reaches them. They've heard all the horror stories about [REDACTED] so wanted the inside scoop. Horrified and fascinated to find out you get the lead role. It’s like watching a train wreck.
Leon
💖 Joined the theater program initially because of you, but got really into it. Moved away to attend a performing arts school until his mother got sick.
💖 Took every wacky infomercial or street performance gig he could find to pay the hospital bills until Teo found out and swooped in.
💖 Eternally grateful for the burden of financial ruin being relieved, so he always accepts the jobs Teo gets for him. He definitely won’t complain since he’s not dressed in an animal costume and shouting nonsensical slogans for cleaning products.
Teo
💖 Met Leon through a shared production and quickly bonded. Attended a different performing arts school and met Jae as a child.
💖 Almost the exact opposite of his game character purely for the funnies. Shy, introverted, can’t flirt to save his life. Still a nepo baby but he can hold his own in acting. Doesn’t like his character much, but is extremely jealous of the confidence he oozes.
💖 Leon and Jae are his only friends in the industry so he uses his sway to get them parts if they haven't already gotten a call back. Gets REALLY nervous on set for certain roles so he needs their support.
Jae
💖 Attended the same school as Teo when they were kids, and is constantly pitching intentionally bad ideas and joking on set to reassure his friend.
💖 A little bit of a thrill seeker, so does all his own small stunts if he thinks he’s capable. Stands there and gawks watching the more extreme stunts, loudest to clap when they go well.
💖 Kept bringing Maple to the shoots cause how could he even think about leaving her at home? She would occasionally break her leash and wander into a scene for head scratches and kisses. The film crew always booed when a PA came to take her off set.
Violet
💖 Completely terrible at caring for plants. Inspired by her role, she starts vlogging about her plant mom journey before shooting even begins. All her advice is completely wrong and terrible. Her personal assistant keeps her in the dark by tending to the plants themselves to fix her mistakes.
💖 Finds out she has a talent for flower arrangement, though. Does thank you vases for the cast and crew on all her future productions that last a lifetime because her PA made sure all the flowers were fake.
Exposition
(silly on set shenanigans)
🎬 Scenes get retaken quite a bit, since you’re still extremely new to it all. Most of the cast and crew expect anger out of [REDACTED] after the 4th call for a re-shoot on the first day’s library scene, but he’s surprisingly cracking jokes about his dye job and reassuring you that you’re doing great. The infamously ill-tempered actor is smiling somehow… even being patient? Not glaring down his co-star for minor slip ups? They cannot recognize this person.
🎬 Violet and [REDACTED] naturally butt heads on set. She respects their acting, not the actor. Zero hesitation to snap back if he’s getting snarky with a PA. You’re the one people have to beg to separate them, and you’re completely baffled that [REDACTED] doesn’t treat others as nicely as he treats you.
🎬 Even though Elanor is a nervous wreck about the first real thing to ultimately make or break her career, she’s scarily efficient on set—as long as no one distracts her. She does get sidetracked once in a while, only because she loves chatting and answering any questions the cast or crew might have. She even brings one of her own cats to set during a slower day to see if they can get along with Maple. Leaves Conan in charge when the horror scenes are being shot. They’re both put off by how vivid they feel, but Conan at least can grin and bear it.
🎬 You and Leon manage to catch up on set while [REDACTED] is otherwise occupied shooting said horror scenes. You tease him about a few infomercials you saw when looking up his actor reel, and Leon teases you back about your unlucky streak of being a tree or a rock in every play the theater program put on when y’all were younger. Laughs even harder once he finds out your most prominent roles until then were “unnamed zombie #5 at the bottom of the pile” and “sleeping train passenger.”
🎬 Try as he might, [REDACTED] doesn’t convince Elanor to change up a few crucial parts of the script for his benefit. His offhand threats of leaving the production fall on deaf ears, as she is all too happy to do re-shoots to make Teo the lead. His innocent hints to you about the shoddy script fly over your head for some reason! You love how it's turning out, what does he mean?
🎬 Super shy Teo prefaces and warns his co-stars before acting in every scene of his character being excessively flirty. Most of the actors have worked with him at some point or another beforehand, so they let him go through his routine without issue. Some crew members love the whiplash of him switching between overly courteous and smarmy, others vastly prefer the flirty character and mourn the loss as production comes to a close.
The Build Up
📺 The higher ups pressure Violet to start a short-lived streaming career to boost interest, since she’s hopeless with plants. She amasses a cult following for her MMO reviews, blind raids on new patches, and her wild ride of a Minecraft playthrough. In the end she winds up preferring to play games off stream, but once in a blue moon she’ll do a first time raid stream so her more dedicated fans can join and watch her alliance get wiped. Creative trolling is highly encouraged.
📺 Teo, Jae, and Leon appear on a late night TV show for promotion. It was meant to be for Teo and [REDACTED] at first. (Where’s the leading lover? [REDACTED] refused all promo appearances or sit downs without you being involved in them.) The host plays a clip that Teo’s particularly embarrassed about, and he hides his face in shame when the crowd hoots and hollers praise about his portrayal.
📺 [REDACTED] comes across as doting and overprotective of you once you’re pushed into the spotlight of celebrity, and shows increasingly concerning behaviors as the premiere looms closer. Depending on your response, they’ll back off to a point or dial it up. Interviewers and consumers mistake it as the eccentric actor’s “method acting” so the red flags just slide right past.
📺 Elanor and Conan guest star in a podcast for off-the-cuff romance enthusiasts. Their strangely cagey and joking comments like “there were so many retakes we couldn’t keep track of what was meant to be the actors messing around or part of the final cuts,” and “we’ve actually sent all the reviewers 1 of 14 versions with completely different endings,” leave listeners all the more curious to see the film.
The Climax
🎉 Reception is huge, in good ways for most. The majority of the cast see a surge in popularity if they didn’t already from the hype.
🎉 Teo bemoans his endless offerings for sarcastic pretty boy jobs, Leon makes enough to get picky about his roles (and pay Teo back), Jae somehow cons a studio into an action film starring Maple—and subsequently adopts every single one of her stunt doubles.
🎉 Moth throws the agency away to start adapting anime and manga themselves. Elanor finally feels validated enough to bring one of her romantic screenplays to the big screen, starring her sister Kiara and a very enthusiastic Violet as the leading couple.
🎉 Conan’s studio is overloaded with scripts, and Alice runs out of scented stickers that much quicker. They are severely backlogged send help.
🎉 One determined conspiracy theorist sets out to prove those missing 13 versions of the ending are real, based on minor cuts and inconsistencies purposefully left in the public release.

As we enter the week of 22 July, I wanted to write something hopeful for any writers, artists and content creators out there, because let’s face it, things happening around the world is so grim and most of us are trying to survive the days.
So, here’s something hopeful for any of you who need this.😄

A small background about me - I write fanfics, mostly in the Avengers/Stony fandoms. And it’s what I’ve been doing mostly for a few years, despite schooling and transitioning to work.
It’s my escape from reality. When things get rough, I start writing. Writing fanfictions gives me comfort because I know the characters and I love them, so I feel safe in a way and it’s stress relieving for me.
In 2018, I had to attend a compulsory internship so that I could get my diploma and graduate. My course offered a few positions and one of them was writing for television programs at a well known media company in my country.
I wanted that job so bad because I wasn’t interested in the others, they were too ‘corporate-like’. So I applied for it. They asked for my portfolio of written works.
And then it hit me. My God, all I’ve written so far were fanfics with male pairing. I come from a conservative country so LGBTQ stories are super rare and can be frowned upon. But that’s all I had and it was all I could submit.
Guess what?
I did just that. I took excerpts from my WIP/published fanfics, and added them into my portfolio. I even went the extra mile and typed a short excerpt into a screenwriting format, like a legit script for a show! (TV writing internships pay special attention to your script writing abilities)
I submitted them.
I was called for an interview a few days later. I was advised to bring hardcopy versions of my written work, so I printed out the stuff from my portfolio. I went for the interview and saw my coursemates, some of whom I consider really capable and smart.
I thought, there’s no way my fanfics and I stand a chance in getting this job.
I went up first and had the usual interview questions. The last bit came, where the interviewer, a prominent executive producer in my country, asked for my written samples. I handed her the file and gave her a brief explanation of my work.
I told her I published my written works online and have a group of audience who read and review them. I also added that I use their feedback to improve my writing as a whole. She was nodding her head and reading the script of my fanfic I had written. I was hiding my smile. Everything she was flipping through were Stony and Avengers fanfic excerpts!
At last, she handed my file back to me and smiled. It signaled the end of my interview. I went back to my campus and sighed, already looking at the other positions to apply to.
Two hours later, I received the email that I had gotten the job, as a television writer intern at a prominent media company. And all I used were my fanfictions I had written!
I couldn’t believe it worked. My fellow coursemates write really good content and I went into the interview with fanfictions and got the job!
To this day, when I think about this, I laugh. Not in a self-deprecating way, but in a way of disbelief, seeing what I can pull off.
To everyone out there who are thinking so lowly of yourself because all you have done are work related to fandoms, I’ve been there, and I’m here to say that you are so talented coming up with unique content from something that is so fixed and rigid. So don’t be hard on yourself.
You’re not wasting your time just because you post stuff on AO3 or Tumblr. Every written work/art/creative content is a great way for you to practice and work on your skills. I mean, we all have to start somewhere, right?
Seriously, it takes a lot of talent, creativity and hard work to write fanfictions, draw fanarts and create any fandom related content. And it takes so much of courage to put your work out there in the open for anyone to read.
And that’s the thing! It’s a service that you are doing, letting people read your words, your story, letting people see your art and your creativity.
Don’t be ashamed of your fandom works. And don’t be ashamed of reading fanfictions. They’re a part of you. So don’t think of yourself lowly. No way. You’re all heroes, in your own ways.
Some of the best written stories I’ve ever read came from AO3, some of the best art works and funniest content I’ve ever seen are fandom related.
You’ve got this, you talented talented human being. Go out there and shine bright! 🌟

okay fuckit, gather 'round: it's gubbles' storytime. girl's band cry hyperfixation be damned, it's bringing up so many Things in my heart. i say i've never performed live onstage, but that's not entirely true. while a far shot from actually taking part in a band and playing a show, allow me to tell you the tale of the closest I ever got to that: a random session at jamspace, pax east, 2016.
.......... senior year of college, i was brought onboard with another group of students who had not only completed a game demo for a class project, but wanted to take it further. a lil VR game, simple in concept and clean in execution, i was invited to do music and audio for it. (i was, of course, the sole game audio/music-focused student on campus, as my school's gamedev program didn't really have a dedicated audio designer track). ultimately it fizzled out and not much came of it, but for a good chunk of time it was everything. our future ambitions, something to carry us forth from graduation on into the industry, to cement our own little foothold in the vast world of game development. we took the train to boston so many times, showed off our game at SO MANY local events, hell i had never known how to navigate a complex subway system, and here we were sifting through every few weeks or so. it was a wild fucking time, and honestly? i wish i could experience it again. something about the weaving of fantastical future prospects with the tangible, corporeal experience of it all. once foreign subway systems, sprawling in a subterranean web of concrete and metal, the sidewalks of city streets lit by the glow of the city, now strangely familiar in such a short span of time... *ahem* right, where was i... right, pax east. our school provided a limited number of booths for teams to show off their projects at pax east, and being one of the big promising projects stirring up on campus, we were granted a spot. (actually i had TWO spots because two separate projects/teams i took part in got accepted, so i had to pull double duty for a lot of it LMFAO). i've been to pax before, but as a fan and attendee, not as a developer. so this was an entirely new experience... ...and that experience was having the booth you sit at all day right next to the massive league of legends (ew) stage!! they blasted music constantly! half of it was just percussion loops from Heavyocity's Damage, and i know because I RECOGNIZED THOSE PERCUSSION SOUNDS and even USED SOME OF THEM IN THE PROJECT I WAS WORKING ON. see, the convention floor is loud. like. incredibly fucking loud. it's one thing if you're walking around as a fan, you've got other talks in siderooms to go to, and you can always step out and get some fresh air if you're feeling overwhelmed. but ya can't do that when you're on shift to demo your game to con attendees for the next several hours, can ya? :3c so yeah, long story short, i got sick. real fuckin sick. i had to YELL over the din of the convention the entire time, and after just one day, i had already lost my voice. and i mean COMPLETELY LOST MY VOICE. i could not speak, only painfully croak. i had to resort to crude hand gestures and typing shit on my phone to communicate. it was rooouughhh. and after bringing this up with my teammates, they agreed to cover my shifts, and let me rest. because the con was so fucking loud, and i was still stuck there sick all day, i informed my team that i would be headed to the jamspace room to pick up earplugs. and by "earplugs" i mean. haha well. lets justr say. a bass guitar. (srry for screenshot but tumblr hated this paragraph for some reason and kept blocking the post):
i was sick as fuck, and for sake of my health, should probably not have pushed myself. HOWEVER. i would NOT i repeat *NOT* let this sole opportunity to slip me by... i've always wanted to perform with other musicians, so fuck it, i am doing this. so the next twelve minutes i shuffled my sickly ass alll the way around to the room at the very end of the hall. i had taken note of the open-stage timeslots the day prior. i had one hour to do this shit. one hour to make the dream come true. i cannot describe the nervousness i felt going into that whole thing. i lied to my teammates. i couldn't speak. a dark room with a little clipboard to fill out a timeslot and instrument, and an empty, brightly lit stage on the other side of it. but i shuffled stage right, strapped on this bass, and asked for a pick (because im a fake bassist). and. holy shit.
i had no voice, but with that bass strapped to me? i could make the entire room *shake*. and words cannot describe how utterly fucking powerful that felt.
a few other randos took up the other instruments. i don't remember much about them, only that they intimidated the HELL out of me. i had done like concert band in high school, i've jammed on instruments in my room, but this? this is something entirely different. we played through a couple tracks... they kept suggesting "hey how about x song from y band?" but my stupid-ass doesn't have a degree in classic rock like everyone else apparently does, so i shrugged and said i didn't know how to play it. we finally settled on the one song suggested that i was, at least passingly, familiar with... metallica's enter sandman lmfaO the "passingly" there is very important, because while i know the general flow and structure, i wasn't sure about the specifics. when we got to the first pre-chorus, i notice something had shifted, and i was no longer playing the right notes. i must've either sounded terrible or look visibly confused, because the guitarist to my left turned toward me, angled his fretboard to be clearly in view, and taught me how to play the riff while performing it onstage. and i did it!! i picked it up, just like that!! it was just the earlier bit but transposed up a few steps or smth, but god, just. that little moment right there? that quick moment of guidance mid-performance? holy fuck that is magical. the other awesome moment was somewhere in the bridge, like. okay. i could barely hear myself, as the guitars and vocals and cymbals right behind me were all incredibly loud (they didn't have earplugs btw lol). but i wasn't sure i was like, contributing much to the song? and while i admittedly improvised this bit, for the build up into the final chorus, i stopped playing. i let the guitar and the drums have their space. and slowly, quietly, high up on the fretboard, built back up until WHAM, i come back in full force with the chorus. IT WAS SO COOL. LIKE. the mix sounded so weak and thin without me, and the contrast of making the entire fucking room violently vibrate with the flick of my wrist on the downbeat? holy FUCK. IT'S MAGICAL. MAGIC IS REAL Y'ALL AND IT IS ONSTAGE. anyway yeah, played that song, some members swapped out but no one else was signed up for bass, so i stuck on for a lil longer. another guitarist taught me how to play one of the splatoon themes, and while it was fun, the drummer kept us both going on that one riff for a looot longer than we wanted to lmfao fun fact! none of my team knew i did this!! they probably would've been PISSED had they found out!! actually they stole my con pass on the third morning, which made sense cause they had someone else fill in for me at the booth, but none of it was communicated to me and i was piiiiised. wound up navigating the subway and trains back home, all by myself, for the first time. but YEAH it was AMAZING. it wasn't an established band playing a local show, it was just a bunch of randos fucking around. and god. i... i really want to be part of a band someday. i want to feel this again.
even if just for one show, for one song, for one moment... i need to feel the weight of the room underneath my fingertips.

Hoover?
Herbert Hoover came from a very poor family in Iowa. After his parents died, he moved in with an uncle in Oregon, and worked at his land office. He didn't attend school after grade school, but when a Stanford recruiter came through, Hoover did so well on his tests (except English) that he was admitted to the college.
He met his wife Lou at Standford, where they both got geology degrees. Hoover got hired with a mining company, and he and Lou oversaw mining operations in Australia and Asia. They were both in China during the Boxer Rebellion. They worked together to translate an ancient Roman mining text for the first time, and they'd give bound copies of it to people as gifts. Lou spoke eight languages, and she and Herbert would speak Mandarin when they didn't want people to understand their conversations.
By the time Hoover was 40, he was a self-made millionaire, working with a company with offices on six continents and a headquarters in London, and while in London, he was looking for a way to engage with public life. Then WWI broke out. He and Lou worked together to set up a charity to help provide food and transportation for American stuck in Europe. Then the crisis in Belgium happened, and he worked with the Belgian government to start the Belgian Relief program. He eventually had 600 ships bringing food to the starving citizens of Belgium. He was called things like "the Great Humantarian" and "the Master of Emergencies".
This caught the attention of Woodrow Wilson, who brought him into his administration as a food administrator, encouraging Americans to reduce consumption of certain foods in light of the war effort. Hoover then became Secretary of Commerce under Warren Harding, and he massively grew that department. Calvin Coolidge put him in charge of disaster relief efforts in 1927 to respond to flooding in Mississippi, which increased his reputation of a guy who was great at responding to emergencies.
He was so popular that he was the obvious Republican candidate for president. Unfortunately, the guy who was a great humanitarian didn't have the personality or the experience to navigate the give-and-take of politics. He preferred just going in and getting the job done to having to work as part of the political machine. He alienated Congress before the Depression. After the Depression hit, he was doing a lot more behind the scenes to respond to things than the public realized at the time--and had more success than he was given credit for--but he was villainized for not wanting to start direct government programs to help people. That was something he had done a ton of as a private citizen, but he didn't think it was the role of the president to do things like that--he wanted to leave that kind of thing to private charities--which unfortunately gave him a reputation of being uncaring.
He was extremely active in his post-presidential life. After WWII, he was again put in charge of relief efforts to bring food to Europe. He ran the Hoover Commission that reorganized the executive branch of the government. He wrote tons of books and papers (and this from the guy who did so badly at English in college that he needed special permission to graduate). For a guy who had such a disastrous presidency, he actually had a pretty amazing and successful life, and I wish more people knew about it.

Mayor Byron William Brown II (born September 24, 1958) is a politician who is the current mayor of Buffalo, New York. He has served as Buffalo’s 62nd mayor since January 2006 and is the City’s first African American mayor. He served Western New York as a member of the New York State Senate and Buffalo Common Council. He was the first African-American politician elected to the New York State Senate to represent a district outside New York City and the first member of any minority race to represent a majority-white New York State Senate district.
He rose to elected office after serving in a variety of political roles. He began his political career performing as an aide to local representatives in several legislative bodies (Buffalo Common Council, Erie County Legislature, and New York State Assembly) and became involved in a regional political organization. After several roles as a legislative aide, he was appointed to the Erie County cabinet-level Director of Equal Employment Opportunity post.
After graduating from August Martin High School, he attended Buffalo State College. He played a year as a Junior Varsity basketball guard. While he had considered a potential medical career, he graduated with a dual BA in political science and journalism. He completed a certificate program for senior executives in state and local government at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
While mayor, he has performed at least one wedding ceremony at the church. He is a chapter president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a past President of the Buffalo State College Alumni Association Board, and at the time of his mayoral inauguration, he sat on the Board of the Boy Scout Council of Western New York and the Community Action Organization of Erie County. He collects tropical fish and maintains an aquarium in his Buffalo Mayor’s office. He is a member of the Erie County Democratic Committee. The Filmmakers of The Road to El Dorado

DON PAUL (Director) most recently served as co-head of the visual effects department for DreamWorks’ first traditionally animated feature, "The Prince of Egypt."
He was previously head of effects for Walt Disney Feature Animation, where he worked on such hits as "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," which earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Visual Effects, and "Pocahontas."
Paul began his career right out of college when he was accepted into Disney’s training program. His earliest credits at Walt Disney Feature Animation include "The Fox and the Hound" and "The Great Mouse Detective." He also worked on such projects as "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "An American Tail," "The Land Before Time" and "Amazing Stories."
Eric "Bibo" Bergeron (Director) previously worked as an animation supervisor on such films as "The Adventures of Pinocchio" and "The Goofy Movie." He worked at Amblimation in London, where he served as an animation supervisor on the features "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West" and "We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story." In addition, Bergeron founded his own animation studio, Bibo Films, in 1993, which is located in his native France.
Hailing from Paris, Bergeron studied art at the Ecole de la rue Madame. He graduated from the animation school CFT- Gobelins in Paris, where he later taught classes. He went on to serve as a director and animator on various commercials at several different studios in Paris. He also worked in London at Passion Pictures and ULI Meyer studios as a commercial animator. While at ULI Meyer, Bergeron animated a sequence from "FernGully: The Last Rainforest."
Bonne Radford (Producer) became one of the first employees at DreamWorks when it was founded in 1994. She served as Head of Feature Animation until 1996.
Prior to joining DreamWorks, Radford worked for Amblin Entertainment, beginning as a controller and subsequently being promoted to vice president of finance and production. She became head of animation at Amblin in 1990, overseeing the animation studio Amblimation in London.
During her tenure at Amblin, she worked on such hit films as, "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," "Back to the Future I, II, and III," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "The Color Purple," "Empire of the Sun," "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West" and "The Land Before Time." She made her producing debut as an executive producer on the animated film "Balto."
BROOKE BRETON (Producer) was instrumental in launching Jim Cameron’s effects house Digital Domain, where she held the post of senior vice president of production for several years. During her tenure, Digital Domain created the visual effects for such blockbusters as "True Lies," "Interview With the Vampire" and "Apollo 13." They also created the effects for the "Terminator 2 - 3D Attraction," which is currently featured at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Prior to joining Digital Domain, Breton served as the associate producer on three Star Trek features: "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." She also produced the visual effects for Warren Beatty’s "Dick Tracy."
A 20-year Hollywood veteran, Breton began her career at Paramount Television, where she worked on such shows as "Happy Days," "Laverne & Shirley," "Angie" and "Call to Glory." Years later, she returned to television to serve as supervisor of post production on the first season of the popular series "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
JEFFREY KATZENBERG (Executive Producer) is a principal partner in DreamWorks SKG, a multi-faceted entertainment company, which he co-founded with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen in October 1994.
He previously served as the executive producer of DreamWorks animated epic "The Prince of Egypt," which grossed over 225 million dollars worldwide, and won an Oscar for Best Original Song ("When You Believe"). The film more recently enjoyed a hugely successful release on video and DVD.
BILL DAMASCHKE (Co-Executive Producer) is executive in charge of production at DreamWorks Animation, overseeing day-to-day operations for all feature animation projects.
He began his animation career working on the feature "Pocahontas." Coming to DreamWorks, he served as production manager on "The Prince of Egypt."
A graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, Damaschke has a BFA in Music and Theatre.
TED ELLIOTT & TERRY ROSSIO (Screenwriters) previously co-wrote the Oscar-winning animated musical "Aladdin," starring the voice of Robin Williams, which became the top-grossing film released in 1992. They more recently scripted Martin Campbell’s action adventure hit "The Mask of Zorro," starring Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins.
Elliott and Rossio’s earlier live-action credits include "Small Soldiers," Roland Emmerich’s "Godzilla," on which they shared story credit, "Little Monsters," starring Fred Savage, and "The Puppet Masters," starring Donald Sutherland.
In 1996, Elliott and Rossio became the first writers signed to an overall deal at DreamWorks SKG. They are currently working on DreamWorks’ upcoming computer animated feature "Shrek," based upon the children’s book by William Steig, and starring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow.
ELTON JOHN (Songs) has been a creative force in the music industry for over three decades. In addition to his status as a legendary recording artist, he was honored with an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from "The Lion King," shared with lyricist Tim Rice. In addition, John and Rice co-wrote the Oscar-nominated songs "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata" for "The Lion King," which still reigns as the top-grossing animated feature and generated the top-selling album of the year.
Today, the songs from "The Lion King" are delighting Broadway and London audiences in the award-winning stage production of the musical. John and Rice have since teamed again on the Broadway-bound musical "Aida," based on the Verdi opera.
John began his domination of the music scene at the beginning of the 1970s, when his songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin resulted in a succession of gold and platinum albums and number one singles. In 1971, he became the first artist since the Beatles to have four albums in the American Top 10 simultaneously. Honky Chateau, released in July 1972, began a string of seven consecutive number one albums.

TIM RICE (Songs) is one of the music industry’s most renowned lyricists and a triple Oscar winner in the category of Best Original Song. He took home his second Oscar and Golden Globe, shared with Elton John, for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the blockbuster "The Lion King," in addition to earning Oscar nominations for "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata" from the same film. He won his most recent Oscar for "You Must Love Me," from the film version of "Evita," which he co-wrote with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Rice has also enjoyed success on the stages of Broadway and London’s West End, and in theatres worldwide. His partnership with Andrew Lloyd Webber resulted in the musical hits "Evita," "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." In addition, Rice has collaborated with such notable composers as Marvin Hamlisch, John Barry, Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach and the late Freddie Mercury on songs not written for the stage.
In 1994, Rice was knighted by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.
HANS ZIMMER (Composer) earned dual Oscar nominations last year for his score for the animated musical "The Prince of Egypt" and Terrence Malick’s World War II drama "The Thin Red Line." In 1994, he won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for his score for the blockbuster "The Lion King," which marked his first collaboration with Elton John and Tim Rice. The highest-grossing animated film to date, "The Lion King" also spawned one of the most successful soundtrack albums ever, which sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. The composer has also been honored with Oscar nominations for "As Good as it Gets," "Rain Man" and "The Preacher’s Wife."
Currently, his music for "The Lion King" is again drawing applause in the award-winning Broadway production of the musical. The show earned the 1998 Tony Award for Best Musical, as well as the Grammy Award for the Best Original Cast Album.
Over the last 15 years, Zimmer has composed music for over 60 feature films, as well as television projects. His credits include "The Peacemaker," "The Rock," "Broken Arrow," "Nine Months," "Crimson Tide," for which he won a Grammy, "Beyond Rangoon," "Cool Runnings," "A League of Their Own," "Black Rain," "Thelma & Louise," "Backdraft," "Green Card," "True Romance," "Days of Thunder," "Driving Miss Daisy" and "My Beautiful Launderette," to name only a portion. He is currently scoring DreamWorks’ upcoming epic drama "Gladiator," for director Ridley Scott, and "Mission: Impossible 2," directed by John Woo.
In addition to his composing work, Zimmer heads DreamWorks’ film music division. His appointment marks the first time that a composer has headed the music department of a major studio since the days of Dimitri Tiomkin at MGM and Alfred Newman at 20th Century Fox.
JOHN POWELL (Composer) created the score (with Harry Gregson-Williams) for DreamWorks’ computer animated hit "Antz," and more recently scored the comedy "Forces of Nature," starring Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck. He made his film scoring debut with John Woo’s action thriller "Face/Off," starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. He also composed the score for the film "Endurance" about Olympic champion runner Haile Gebrselassie, which fused African, Arabic and Western music. Powell is currently re-teaming with Harry Gregson-Williams to score DreamWorks’ upcoming animated comedy "Chicken Run."
A native of England, Powell graduated from Trinity College of Music in London. In 1988, he landed a job composing music for commercials and television at London’s Air-Edel Music. There he also made his first foray into feature films, assisting Patrick Doyle on "Into the West," and working as an electronic music programmer for Hans Zimmer on "White Fang." He left Air-Edel in 1995 to co-found his own studio with fellow Trinity College alumnus Gavin Greenway, where they wrote music for over 100 commercials and independent films, as well as the opera "An Englishman, Irishman and Frenchman."
Moving to the United States, Powell scored the DreamWorks Television series "High Incident" and the pilot "For the People." In addition, he arranged songs written by Stephen Schwartz for DreamWorks’ animated epic drama "The Prince of Egypt."
RAYMOND ZIBACH (Art Director) previously worked as a background key and production painter on animated portions of the hit basketball comedy "Space Jam," which blended live action and animation. He also worked as a background key on such popular Nickelodeon cartoons as "Ren and Stimpy" and "Rocko’s Modern Life." His other credits include the television and direct-to-video projects "Darkwing Duck," "Aladdin and the King of Thieves," "Timon and Pumbaa" and "Shnookums and Meat."
Zibach is a graduate of the Otis/Parsons School in Los Angeles, where he majored in design and illustration. In addition to his work on the screen, he has lent his artistry to book illustrations for such titles as Around the World With Timon and Pumbaa, Aladdin’s Quest Series, The Lion King Series, Princess’ Collection and The Genie’s Tale.
Paul Lasaine (Art Director) previously worked as a background supervisor and visual development artist on DreamWorks’ "The Prince of Egypt."
Before coming to DreamWorks, Lasaine worked as a matte painting artist on a variety of live action films, including "Mortal Kombat," "The Santa Clause," "The Jungle Book," "The Pelican Brief" and "Dick Tracy."
Lasaine grew up in Encino, California, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Northridge.
WENDELL LUEBBE (Art Director) counts among his other art directing credits the animated films "A Goofy Movie" and the upcoming "Return to Neverland."
Luebbe holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design from the University of Kansas. He also studied character animation at the California Institute of the Arts.
Christian Schellewald (Production Designer) previously served as a visual development artist on DreamWorks "The Prince of Egypt." He began his animation career at Amblimation in London, where he worked as a layout artist on "Balto."
Hailing from Essen, Germany, Schellewald studied graphic design at the University of Essen. He went on to work as a comic strip artist and freelance illustrator, before segueing into animation.
DAN PHILIPS (Digital Supervisor) joined DreamWorks Animation in 1995, and helped to establish the visual effects department for the division. He most recently served as co-visual effects supervisor on "The Prince of Egypt."
Philips began his career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation working in graphic, set, and production design. He then worked for Omnibus Computer Graphics as creative director and art director. Segueing to freelance work, he worked on the visual design and art direction for film and video advertisements for Diet Pepsi, Digital Computers and Rubbermaid.
In 1990, Philips joined Walt Disney’s Feature Animation as the head of Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), where he worked on the animated hits "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "The Lion King" and "Pocahontas."
James Baxter (Senior Supervising Animator - Tulio) was an animator on the central character of Moses in DreamWorks’ "The Prince of Egypt." Presently, he is the supervising animator on the wild mustang Spirit, the main character in DreamWorks’ tentatively titled "Spirit," due out in 2001.
Baxter previously served as a supervising animator on such characters as Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," Rafiki in "The Lion King," and Belle in "Beauty and the Beast." He also worked on such animated films as "The Rescuers Down Under" and "The Little Mermaid."
Born in England, Baxter attended West Surrey College of Art and Design. He began his career at Walt Disney Studios London as an in-between artist and animator on Jessica Rabbit and Roger for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
DAVID BREWSTER (Senior Supervising Animator – Miguel) recently served as the supervising animator on the pivotal role of Older Rameses in "The Prince of Egypt." He was previously an animator on "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and a supervising animator on "FernGully: The Last Rainforest." His additional credits include "Rock-A-Doodle," "All Dogs Go to Heaven," "The Land Before Time," "The Grinch is Back" and "Rock and Rule," among others. Early in his career, he did several years of series work on such cartoons as "Scooby Doo" and "The Flintstones."
In addition, Brewster has worked on numerous commercials and special projects, including spots for Burger King, Nestle’s Quik, Alpha Bits, Shake & Bake, and Rice Krispies.
Rodolphe Guenoden (Supervising Animator – Chel) formerly served as the supervising animator on the character Tzipporah in "The Prince of Egypt."
Prior to joining DreamWorks, Guenoden worked at Amblimation as a supervising animator and story artist on "Balto." He was also a senior animator on "We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story" and an assistant animator on "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West."
Guenoden comes from France where he attended CFT - Gobelins in Paris.
KATHY ZIELINSKI (Supervising Animator – Tzekel-Kan) served as an animator on several character in "The Prince of Egypt." She is presently working as an animator on DreamWorks’ upcoming film, tentatively titled "Spirit."
Zielinski was previously the supervising animator on Frollo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," various incarnations of Jafar in "Aladdin," Hexxus in "FernGully: The Last Rainforest," and Frank, the frill-necked lizard in "The Rescuers Down Under." She also served as an animator on such projects as "Mickey’s Christmas Carol," "The Black Cauldron," "The Great Mouse Detective," "Oliver & Company" and "The Little Mermaid," and as a character designer on "Pocahontas."
FRANS VISCHER (Supervising Animator – The Chief) previously served as a directing animator on such features as "Cats Don’t Dance," "Bebe’s Kids" and "Rover Dangerfield." He also worked as an animator or storyboard artist on the features "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "The Goofy Movie."
In addition, he was an animator or storyboard artist on a variety of other projects, including the shorts "Tummy Trouble," "Michael and Mickey," "Back to Neverland," "The Duxorcist" and "Night of the Living Duck."
Kristof Serrand (Supervising Animator – Altivo and Cortes) was the supervising animator for older Moses and Pharaoh Seti in "The Prince of Egypt." He is currently working on DreamWorks’ tentatively titled "Spirit," due out in 2001.
Prior to joining DreamWorks, Serrand worked at Amblimation in London as a supervising animator for "Balto," "We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story," and "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West." Serrand also worked as an animator on such features as "The Big Fight," "Asterix in Britain" and "The Cesar’s Surprise."
A native of France, Serrand studied at CFT- Gobelins in Paris, where he later taught classes for five years. He also worked as an animator in the military service for the Army’s cinema department.

Victory gardens were popular during World War I and II as a way for families on the "home front" to produce their own food and boost morale during food rationing war efforts. This Victory Gardener's Guide, Including Food Preservation Guide (1944), came from the Victory Garden Committee of the Cuyahoga County Council for Civilian Defense and the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland, in Ohio, as a practical guide to making victory gardens at home. Read below for more information on victory gardens and a sample garden plot.

Dear Victory Gardeners:
We are presenting to you herewith the new 1944 edition of the "Victory Gardener's Guide." We believe you will be delighted with its practical sug-gestions and new features:
Our Government is asking for more and better gardens in 1944. Last year we had 110,000 gardens in Cuyahoga County. That was a good record and we are proud of it. But there must be more and better gardens this year.
We hope that every family with a sunny site and suitable soil will have a vegetable and fruit garden if possible. Our 110,000 Victory Gardeners of 1943 should make plans immediately for more productive gardens this season. We also need from 15,000 to 25,000 additional Victory Gardeners. Begin now to select your site and make your plans for this summer.
Plan your garden carefully and then carry it out faithfully. Study this guide thoroughly. Use your seed and fertilizer for capacity production. Take care of the garden through every stage of planting, care, and harvesting. DON'T waste seed, fertilizer, or soil.
We wish to express our appreciation to the Executive Committee for their painstaking work on this guide. They are Mr. Robert P. Brydon, Chairman, Mr. Henry Pree, Mr. Harold Ward, Miss Helen Grant Wilson, Mr. Paul R. Young and Mr. Herbert G. Meyer, Director. Making Victory Gardens
This Gardener's Guide is to help you make your Victory Garden efforts as effective as possible. Wasteful, spasmodic, non-productive or war-hysterical gardening must be avoided. The emphasis of Cuyahoga County's Victory Garden program is on better garden making during 1944.
The 1944 Victory Garden goal for United States has been set at twenty-two million home and community gardens, with at least a twenty-five per cent increase in food production. This is four million greater than the 1943 goal and two million larger than the twenty million gardens made in 1943, as estimated by the Gallup Poll. Applying this to Cuyahoga County, every one of this year's 110,000 gardeners should make better and perhaps larger gardens in 1944, and 15,000 new gardens should be made—a total goal of approximately 125,000 GOOD Victory Gardens.
Many valuable sources of information and helps on vegetable gardening are available in Cuyahoga County. These are listed in this booklet. Spe-cific garden plot plans, approved by the Victory Garden Committee for Cuyahoga County, are presented. They are graduated in size to fit the available ground area and the experience of the gardener.
Only a limited supply of these booklets has been printed in order to save paper and other materials. Please do not destroy this or file it away. In war or peace, it is good sense to "use what we have and keep it useful." If you have no further use for this booklet, give it to someone who will use it, or return it.
Who Should Raise Vegetables?
Individuals who have had successful vegetable gardens should continue with them, and increase the yield and quality.
Persons lacking in experience and knowledge of gardening can prepare themselves to make a good Victory Garden by taking advantage of the helps made available by the Victory Garden Committee.
Areas that are shaded, have tree roots in them, or where the soil conditions are not satisfactory, are not worth the sacrifice of vegetable seeds. DON'T waste capital and man power on poorly selected projects.
Sufficient time throughout the season must be budgeted for the Victory Garden to make it a successful venture. Only the amount of vegetables which can be properly cared for should be planted.
Children should be encouraged to participate in the Victory Garden Program under proper supervision. The educational aspect of the garden program should be emphasized, particularly as it relates to health and character building.
Community Maintenance and Improvement
The care of your Victory Garden will lead you into the care of your :lot and house. This is no time for disorder; we must have efficiency. This is no time for waste we must conserve. This is no time to let things run down; we must maintain what we have. War time is clean-up, fix-up time. We must use what we have, and keep it useful ; we will not get new tools, or furniture, or houses, for a long time. If you practice conservation on your own house and yard, you will contribute to the war effort as well as to the values of your home and your community.
You and your neighbors can use your work on Victory Gardens as a spring-board into an effective consciousness of other community problems. By working together on conserving your whole neighborhood as well as your own houses, you will build civic assets for this emergency and for long after. You will be doing real city planning, and building the better communities for which we fight.
As you work in your Victory Garden, you will realize more and more how much time and effort go into all gardening and building. We cannot afford to waste any of our assets. You will want to join in the movement to protect the parks, playgrounds, schools and public buildings that were built with your money for your use. You will feel the need for conservation and wise use of all resources—manpower, food, gardens; homes, neighborhoods, public properties—to win the war, and to enjoy the benefits of pace. And you will do your part.
Why Can?
WHY CAN? Home canning helps to supplement commercial supplies and saves transportation. It provides greater variety in meals by helping to equalize the seasonal food supply, and if properly done, home canning helps to supply food elements which are essential to health. It provides a means of pre-serving the surplus of your Victory Garden.
Home Canning Pays
If you grow supplies in sufficient quantities for your daily use and pro-vide an inexpensive surplus for canning—
If you can as quickly as possible when produce is sound, ripe, and fresh —two hours from plant to can is a good rule—
If you buy direct from a farmer or home gardener at a low cost to justify home canning—
If you have suitable equipment and suitable storage space.
If you will can products efficiently and according to the best canning techniques—
If you can proper amounts of the various food products—not too much nor too little, but just enough to last the family through the coming year
General Rules
There is no such thing as luck in canning. It is a science requiring Care and Precision. The sooner the food is canned after picking, the better the result. The product will be no better than the material that goes into the can. Select foods with care, using only sound perfect produce in prime condition. Canning does not improve the product, it only preserves it.
Use the right method for the food to be preserved. Tomatoes are the easiest vegetable to can. All other vegetables are non-acid and should be canned in a pressure cooker, dried, or put down in salt. The safer method is to sterilize the food packed in the can. The two recommended methods of sterilizing in the can are processing by hot water bath—or by pressure cooker.
Victory Garden Plans
Seven plans for adult Victory Gardens are presented on pages 9 to 15. They range in size from 150 square feet to 5,000 square feet. Two additional plans designed especially for children are shown on page 16. These gardens have all been carefully planned to make full use of soil area for the entire season. The Victory Gardener should select the plan which best fits his conditions.
The smaller sized plots are limited to vegetables economic of space and with high food value. Crops such as corn, pumpkins, squash, cucumbers and perennial crops such as asparagus and rhubarb are included in the larger plots.
The four major vegetables--judged on ease of culture, maximum yield, high vitamin content, general use, and facility of canning or storing—are tomatoes, carrots, beans and vegetable greens. These have been included in the largest amounts consistent with a well balanced vegetable garden plan. All other crops are secondary, yet worthy of inclusion to vary the wartime menu.
Selecting the Plan
The size of the garden should be determined by the site, space and time available, and the needs of the family. Approximately 1,000 square feet of land will produce enough vegetables for a family of four during the summer. A larger plot will be needed to provide for canning and storage. Even the smaller gardens, 1 to 3, yield surprising quantities of vegetables. You can expect to spend at least one hour a day in the 1,000 square foot garden. It is better to take good care of a small garden than to have one so large it is neglected.
These suggested plans may be used for individual home garden plots or as units of a community garden.
Notes and Suggestions
The tomato plants, as shown in the plans, are spaced for staking and tying. If grown on the ground, space 3 to 4 feet apart.
As noted earlier the major crops are tomatoes, beans, carrots and such greens as lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, endive, beets for tops, mustard and others. If more of these major crops are wanted, substitutions may be made, as for example, carrots in the parsnip row, tomatoes where asparagus and rhubarb are shown. It is better, however, to follow the plans.
Potatoes should only be grown in garden areas larger than 5,000 square feet, and only where the soil is suitable. A fairly acid soil is recommended for this crop. Check other cultural information on potato raising before attempting to grow them.
Harvesting of vegetables from the garden is greatly increased by succession planting. As soon as one crop is harvested, fertilize and plant with a crop which will mature before the end of the season. The harvesting period for many vegetables may be extended considerably by planting at one time varieties having different maturity dates. Succession planting is provided for in the plans given in this booklet.
In Plan Number 7, the area on the right side may be planted with early, quick-maturing crops such as lettuce, peas, spinach, onion sets, radishes, etc. This may be done also in Plans 5 and 6 where early crops are not indicated in the areas devoted to late crops. This will result in a still more intensive utilization of the soil area.
READING THE PLANS
The following guide serves for plans 1 to 7.
The rectangles represent the outlines of the plots. The letters A, B, C and D mark the corner stakes.
Lines across the plots mark the vegetable crop rows. Solid lines are for full season rows and broken lines - - - - are for partial season rows. The latter, except where succession crops are marked, indicate "companion" crops.
Names of the crops are shown in the rows. Parentheses ( ) around a crop name indicate a succession crop to be planted after the first crop is harvested.
The small circles indicate transplanted plants; the large circles indicate hills of squash and cucumbers. Short perpendicular lines divide rows between various crops shown.
The inch measure (6", 12", etc.) indicates distances between the rows. These are shown at the left of the plans. The foot measure (2', 4', etc.) indicates distances in the rows, as for example, the spacing distances between transplanted plants, or sections of crop rows.
The asterisks * on the left mark the rows which can be planted as early as soil conditions and season will permit after April 1. Broken lines so marked should be planted first. All rows not so marked should be planted after May 25. Succession crops ( ) are planted immediately after the crops which they follow are harvested. Pepper plants are usually transplanted on or after June 1.

A Little About Me!
Hi everyone!
This is my first blog post! In full transparency, I tried to make a proper website for this blog, but was utterly confused and decided to resort back to the good ole days: Tumblr.
A little bit about me:
My name is Adelaide Riedesel and I am from Jupiter, Florida. I am a fourth-year Anthropology student with a minor in Intercultural Communication and a certificate in Anthropology of Global Health... and I am graduating this upcoming May! I have a cat named Vinny after Vincent Van Gogh because one of her ears was clipped. I am an avid Tampa Bay Lightning hockey fan even though I am from South Florida.
I am conducting undergraduate research under the amazing Dr. Alison Hudson about medieval and pre-modern Jewish wedding rings within the context of museum settings. I will be (hopefully) presenting at the Scholar Symposium at UCF in March.
My other research interests include archival work, the process of digitization, and the overall museum industry.
Some things I am/have been involved in besides this internship:
I am a PeerKnights Coach for UCF within the High Impact Practice sector. I currently TA for the also amazing Dr. Ilenia Colón Mendoza for ARH3820: Visual Arts Administration. I studied abroad in Enschede, the Netherlands last spring with UCF! I volunteered with the Art & History Museums - Maitland and De Museumfabriek in the Netherlands. I am a part of Greek Life here at UCF and served on the Greek Council Executive Board as the Director of Community Programming.

Kate Laswell

Kate Laswell was born in Annapolis, Maryland. Kate believes that past is prologue, witnessing both diplomatic and military failures in the war on terror, her tradecraft is largely dedicated to breaking this repetitive cycle. Kate has a Master’s degree in strategic intelligence analysis and studied Near East linguistics at the American University of Beirut. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cornell University with a BA in International Affairs.
Laswell began her career as a communications analyst. Her earliest evaluation showed an advanced aptitude for strategic analysis. Kate’s acumen was quickly recognized by the Islamabad Station Chief, and she was relocated to Pakistan, where she served as a “targeter” – a critical support role in the early days of the lethal drone strike program.
On the fast track, Laswell was transferred to U.S. Africa Command at Camp Lemonnier. Shortly thereafter, the base was ground zero for a shocking attack by a suicide bomber. She considered her survival, a calling to serve the greater good and has devoted her career to global security.
As she climbed the CIA ranks, Kate looked for a female mentor who could show her how to retain her personal life and still be respected for her operational judgment. Not finding that role model, Laswell worked with unapologetic obligation to her mission. Laswell has always been hard to manage but brings reliable maneuvers to the table. A retired colleague said, “when it comes to unconventional information warfare, Kate Laswell rewrote the book.”
In 2008, the historically paternal agency broke its glass ceiling, calling on Kate to supervise a Special Activities Division (SAD) “black site” program in Europe, Asia and South America, a post with no official commission. Kate’s leadership post with the SAD was considered controversial, after she refused to testify in open hearing, on the use of rendition. Often polarizing but always respected, over her tenure, Laswell developed detainee information that saved tens of thousands of lives. Evaluation reports credit Kate’s success with not being risk averse.
Laswell currently reports directly to the CIA Inspector General, through an elite category of Top Secret called “Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented” or TS/SCI. This clearance authorizes select special agents, largely unconstrained latitude in responding to critical terrorist activity, at home and abroad. To execute her missions, Kate works closely with the special activities paramilitary ground branch officers under her command (Alex), and has a close professional relationship with Captain Price.
