Bill Cipher's anatomy UPDATE!

Alex Hirsch is going to kill me one day.

So, for those who don't know, I'm the weirdo who did speculative biology of Bill Cipher, mostly as a fun exercise. I'm a biologist after all.

And now, on the stream, Alex Hirsch brought me the unused Bill's anatomy drawing from his book. I lost my mind:

So, now, I can tell you what my spec bio got right and what I got wrong and I can expand on the anatomy a bit!

Btw, this is going to have a NSFW part. I am VERY serious about that. Also, warning for anatomy drawings I guess.

WHAT I GOT CORRECT:

Bill Cipher is an invertebrate! He has a hydroskeleton, which he calls "arm juice", not bones. SUCK ARM JUICE YOU PERSON WHO SENT ME THAT ASK, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

And he's also segmented, although he has more segments than I saw. This isn't unusual, internal structures often keep the segmentation that external structures lost. I was very correct about his exoskeleton splitting in the middle to form a front and back plate and that his limbs protrude through the gap.

His skin is black! It's funny how many people needed to tell me that he's wearing gloves. No he's not!

I accidentally got right that he has a liver. I thought "this dumbass eats and drinks so much shit, if he didn't have a liver he'd be dead by now" and I was right. Considering the size of his liver, I was also right about him being a carnivore (or mostly carnivore). Carnivores have large livers because livers are used to process proteins and for uric acid cycle. Since carnivores consume lots of protein, they need a large liver.

His stomach is in the center! I didn't explain on my previous post why I placed it there, but it actually makes a lot of sense. The center of an equilateral triangle is its "mass center", so if an animal looks like a triangle, it would make a lot of sense that its stomach would be there, so that the extra mass from the meal wouldn't tilt its balance.

I also got right that his intestines are in his lowest segment and his brain in the topmost.

WHAT I GOT WRONG:

The entire reproductive system. It's MUCH freakier than expected!

Bill has ears! They are on the sides of his head. They aren't really ears, just tympanal membranes. They are located where Brett is trying his darndest XD

The hat is probably not a part of Bill's body. He used it as storage for extra organs during Weirdmageddon, Holy Moses on a Motorbike! However, if it IS a part of his body, then it could be used as fat storage.

He has 20 lashes. I would have never guessed. They could still be used to sample scent, a lot of animals have scent sampling tentacles.

His feet! He probably has velcro-like structure on them, like geckos. This could mean that Bill could glue himself to walls and walk on them if he wanted to. Little insect motherfucker.

He has a singular anus! And it's between his legs. Do with that information what you want.

AAAAND UPDATES!

I can finally show you Bill's entire digestive system! I couldn't do that in my original post, since I couldn't figure out what would go after the small intestine. Alex Hirsch has cleared that up for me and also, I think Bill uses some form of Malpighian tubules-like structures for urine excretion.

And, now... The reproductive system. AKA, the fun zone and creative juices.

Bill Cipher is a fucking freak, but maybe that isn't entirely his fault. It's in the genes of Euclydeans as species. (His love for BDSM isn't though. "He's got it all figured out", as Ford said.)

So, in case you don't know what a vagina dentata is, it was like an occult belief that women can grow teeth out of their vaginas. Bill Cipher's genitals look like a fucking vagina dentata. So that's why he thinks that teeth are hot - they grow out of his reproductive system.

Now, those aren't really teeth. They look like sharp-edged fleshy protrusions that Euclydeans probably use to tighten the grip during mating. It could probably be used for stimulation as well. That's why Bill doesn't like his sides being touched - the genitals are inside, but rubbing them feels violating.

Euclydeans are most likely one of those species who use pain to sexually stimulate their partners. It's not that uncommon on Earth either (don't look up reptile hemipenes, especially not turtles) and for creatures that are covered in smooth exoskeleton, some piercing action would be highly beneficial for transferring seminal fluid.

This also gives us the option of Bill Cipher being a biological female, who has a vagina with those weird teeth-like protrusions. However, it is entirely possible that males also have similar genitals. Bill calls his thing that's dripping "creative juice", so maybe it is seminal fluid? In either case, it's very freaky, but it fits him so well.

This also means that male Euclydeans most likely don't have a real copulatory organ, or, maybe, they do, but the female has to "bite it off" during mating to absorb the sperm. If they don't have the copulatory organ, they do it like birds, with just pumping, but unlike birds, they hold onto each other's thing with flesh teeth.

She was a slight little thing, as the cycles of malnutrition and overwork has reduced her down to skin and bone. My antennae chirped in distress at the bags under her eyes, at the way her body shook with stress, at the quivering of her lip.

I knelt down low, until I was a mere foot or two higher than her eye level. "Hello, Abigail. Are you hurt?"

She didn't answer me with vocalizations, which was worrying. Was some part of her still attempting to hide? The furry lines above her eyes scrunched together, and she kept her gaze pointedly fixed on the floor a few feet in front of me.

"Abbi- may I call you Abbi?" Her eyes flickered slightly, and she gave the smallest and most hesitant of head movements up and down. I continued, "Abbi, my name is Cherry Berry, Third Bloom, pronouns of She and Her."

The girl's diaphragm twitched spasmodically as she exhaled, a strange and involuntary reaction to my name I've found many Terrans do. It is admittedly very adorable how they are unable to control themselves, similar to how they cannot control their heartbeat.

I kept my body perfectly still as I continued, "Now as you may be aware, my presence here means that this ship has been boarded. As of this moment, all but eight of your fellow crewmates have been sedated, and are being escorted off of this ship, and onto the Illastria. You are to join them. Do you understand?"

The girl shook her head wildly, her ocular organs wide as her heartbeat sharply increased. Many creatures had a fear response, of course; evolution's clumsy attempts at protecting them. I would be much more thorough, once my implant rested within her.

I carefully extended one of the four groupings of vines I had shaped into arms, holding the 'hand' palm-up towards her. Culturally, she would recognize it as an offering.

"Come here, petal. Take my hand."

The girl pulled her bottom lip into her mouth and nibbled on it as she thought things through. I waited, calmly. She was smart, I knew. Instead, I began to slowly sway my body back and forth. Not enough to be noticeable on its own, but enough that the natural rhythm of my flora to more prominently draw her attention. Like many species, it was difficult for her kind to focus on multiple tasks at once. All I had to do was utilize this trait to my advantage.

Her fingertips touched first, like soft wingbeats of an Al'yssrian upon the surface. They hovered over my own facsimile of her phalanges, and finally came to a rest in the center of my palm, with my own fingertips nestled on her radius and ulna. I allowed myself a full 0.3 seconds to enjoy the feeling of her body. All those complicated systems, each working so inefficiently to maintain that spark called life. The soft tiny hairs on her arm had raised, hundreds of little bumps coating her arm. Another automatic system, most likely. She reacted to me.

...But even so, she was far from ready for me to move, just yet. The sternocleidomastoid muscle was tensed to near-taut, and her ocular organs refused to stay fixed for long. Now that I was touching her directly, I was able to get a much more accurate pulse reading. It was far above resting, and the speed only hastened the effects of the adrenaline coursing through her systems.

I pulled a single vine from the 'back' of my hand, curling it slowly around the side until it hovered over her own. She watched it nervously, and I felt her limb tense in case she needed to pull it back.

Still, it was enough for me to develop an interest in the Sophont.

The corners of the girl's lips sank down, and the hair strips above her ocular organs scrunched up again. It would be adorable, if it wasn't meant to signal negative emotions.

The vine dipped down and began to stroke along her metacarpals, a careful pleasing rhythm modeled after my own. The effects, though minor, were immediate: her heart rate shifted down and her eyes locked into the movement, and the scent of her perspiration indicated a reduction in chemicals released from stress. I continued to gently pet her, noting with mild amusement how she used the muscles in her throat she could control to contain any vocalizations. That would have to change, of course. The easiest way would be to remove her ability to notice them via hypnosis, but I enjoyed the way the hue of her face dyed red as she grew more embarassed.

I adopted a softer and quieter tone, causing the girl to lean forward slightly to hear me better. "You see? Nothing to be afraid of, is there? All I offer is comfort and pleasure, petal."

She continued to think while I directed more vines to join the first, carefully running them down and up the length of my grip on her. The topical xenodrugs began to take hold by then, causing her pupils to dilate by thirty...thirty-two percent. I checked my tablet from its place next to my core, and noted that I was one of only three affini left. Still, this could not be rushed.

"Abbi, I am very pleased with you. You are responding wonderfully to me, and I wish to reward you. May I do so?" Needing to ask was ridiculous, of course, but I wasn't quite ready to take...yet. The trap was laid. Now, all that was left was to see if she took the bait. The curiosity. Her kind had to know things. Especially if it is a mysterious 'reward'.

Abbi thought for a full five seconds, then her head bobbed up-and-down.

"Thank you, dear." The vines of my hand wrapped around hers fully while I began to tug, pulling her into the air as I prepared my other arms to cradle her now-prone body. The girl couldn't help but vocalize a squeal, but otherwise she did not struggle. Oh yes, she was absolutely mine in all but name.

I began to drag the clawed tips of my upper right arm across her radius, while the hand holding hers began to massage and squeeze in earnest. Hundreds of different points of contact, varying in intensity, texture, movement.

The girl's nervous system could scarely keep up with the combined input, and I couldn't help but shift the hue of my eyes to a higher frequency as a result. The dazed and unfocused ocular organs...the desperate panting as her chest rose and fell...the way her vocalizations continued to build....

Completely 100% agree with the posts on CAM stuff, but... what's the verdict on vitamins? I take kid's multivitamins and B12 gummies because my body can't absorb nutrients very well and I figure a boost can't help. But do they actually do anything? or is it just a placebo?

Ideally speaking, you should be getting most of your vitamins and minerals through the food you eat.

Most people don't need the doses present in multivitamins if they are getting a balanced and varied diet.

THAT SAID,

If you know you are deficient in anything you should talk to your doctor about appropriate supplementation

AND

If you are someone who has malabsorption issues as the result of a chronic illness or past injury/treatment that changed your digestive system, YOU may know more about what nutrients you're lacking than your GP does so you may need to get tested for things that other, more "standard" patients don't and you may need to very loudly advocate for yourself.

AND, all of that said

Many people do NOT get varied and balanced diets and multivitamins may be beneficial for them, and the standard vitamin doses in multivitamins are moderate enough that you are very unlikely to experience any kind of *harm* from taking a multivitamin BUT you need to be very cautious about combining vitamins with a multivitamin to make sure that you're not going over the tolerable upper limit of any one vitamin because you CAN make yourself very sick if you're getting too much of some vitamins, especially fat soluble vitamins.

For most people, a daily dose of vitamin C is unnecessary and they will excrete the excess that their body doesn't use and taking a vitamin C tablet on top of taking a multivitamin on top of eating a diet rich in foods with vitamin C is overkill and a waste of money.

However, since I am someone who has had scurvy as a result of malabsorption due to my celiac disease, I take a multivitamin and I make a lot of smoothies.

I have also been treated for anemia, folate deficiency, and a vitamin D deficiency.

There are absolutely conditions where improper absorption of nutrients means that taking a multivitamin is a major part of treatment and symptom management. Multivitamins can be a very important part of a treatment regimen for people who need them. It's just that most people don't really need them - not only do most people get a lot of what they need from food, a lot of food is enriched with vitamins and minerals.

HOWEVER. If you not only have a malabsorption issue, you ALSO can't eat those enriched foods (often grains - wheat is enriched in the US so most people here get their folate from sandwiches and cereal, not from spinach), you probably will benefit from a multivitamin containing vitamins and minerals you may be missing from your diet. BUT, even then, you probably don't need as much as comes in most adult multivitamins - you take a child's dose, and for me, I need folate and that's in prenatal vitamins so I take half a prenatal vitamin a day because the dose recommended to pregnant people is much more than what you need on average, but you should talk to your doctor and make sure that you are regularly being monitored for nutrient deficiencies and are taking the appropriate dose of whatever you are taking, which will change throughout the course of your life due to aging and also due to your condition.

So hopefully that's enough caveats to say "talk to your doctor; vitamins can be an unnecessary waste of money but for some people they're the primary treatment of an illness and if you fall into that second category you've got to make sure you're getting the correct treatment."

I stumbled face first into four different, major nutrient deficiencies that my doctor didn't anticipate because I have a relatively uncommon chronic condition and people (even doctors) aren't often well-educated about nutrition; that is the entire reason I ended up taking college nutrition classes and the reason I continue to pursue nutrition education. This is genuinely complicated and will depend on the individual, and I'm not a medical professional and this isn't medical advice, but it sounds like a daily children's multivitamin is probably not wasted on you.

BUT ALSO: If you are just in a "my body doesn't absorb nutrients well" kind of state and you don't know what that might mean in terms of SPECIFIC deficiencies, you should ask your doctor if there is a nutrition screening blood panel they can order for you.

The folic acid deficiency SUCKED. It's not the kind of thing that gets treated with a normal multivitamin, and it also needed to be specifically screened for - it isn't on a standard blood panel.

Malnutrition is not to be fucked around with. If you're not sure, ask your doctor.

Hello!! I plan to go into the biology field and take great interest in the entities, I have several questions

Is there any form of sexual dymorphism in the entities of the far plane? Actually--A better question for this would be do the entities have any biological sexes to begin with? Or do they simply exist? You mentioned no evidence of reproduction before, but does that mean that they just don't necessarily reproduce sexually, or that they don't have sexes at all?

Is there any way to test for what the remaining 00.4%(I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you said the concrete in Brutalia matched 99.6% with what concrete here is made of) may be in the concrete in Brutalia? Is it likely that the remaining 00.4% is something not found on Earth, like water two?

Somewhat related, have any new elements been discovered on the Far Plane? If so, do they have names yet and are you able to share their information(atomic mass, electron configuration, etc)?

Do any of the entities display higher levels of intelligence than others? Would it be possible to test some of them with the mirror test, for example? I understand that they likely don't have the type of intelligence that animals here on Earth have, as if I remember right many don't seem to have organs at all, but they must have some level of self awareness, I'd imagine.

And finally, have behaviors between the entities been observed that mirror how animals communicate on Earth? Sounds, movements, really anything that can be translated to forms of communication between the species? There is no reason to believe that extraplanar entities have any biological sex, at least not as we know them. There has not yet been reproduction in extraplanar entities witnessed. Not only this, but no extraplanar entity has any set of genitals. Not to excrete waste with, and not to reproduce with. If extraplanar entities reproduce, it is not through means we as carbon-based organisms can recognize.

0.4% of Brutalia's concrete is a material currently unrecognizable as any material found on Earth. This may be water 2, or a solution made with water 2- I am admittedly not sure.

Most, if not all materials in the Far Plane can also be found on earth. It is the composition of them that is baffling. Princes are one-hundred percent made of glass, similar to what we make on earth, but our glass cannot move around independently.

Maax and Sailors in specific come to mind when thinking of 'intelligent' entities. Most entities do not have brains or nervous systems that could tell for sure whether they have any mental activities or are just portraying automatic reactions. However, Maax are capable of learning tricks, such as "sitting" or shaking. Sailors will investigate new objects put into their environments and may be capable of using very simple tools. While no traditional mental capacity can be measured, they for sure interact with their environment not dissimilar to intelligent animals.

Most resemblances to earth organisms appear to be superficial at best. Most entities seem to not have the ability or no need to have developed complex language structures, and if they have, they would not be observable by us. Some entities do, however, seem to communicate in ways understandable by humans. Light Mimics displaying their light-like frills seem to be a 'threat display' of sorts, or a warning to stay away from their house. If this is not heeded, the perpetrator will be promptly thrown away into the snow.

Cannot stop thinking about how delightfully impractical it is to have 100% invisible clothing closures. You could make so many B-plots out of various Star Trek characters fighting with their own clothes.

Because, ok, I have to assume that there’s no need to align the edges perfectly in order to close up the invisible seam. That’s obviously unworkable. So maybe there’s some kind of guidance system (magnets or something similar) that makes the sides “want” to align in the correct closed position.

Magnetic clothing closures already exist. But these 24th century closures would have to work a bit differently, since we don’t have any visible overlap in the fabric. Maybe the edges of the fabric meet perfectly edge-on, and these are some very narrow, extremely strong magnets. Hopefully they never wiggle even slightly out of position, or the seam will be permanently misaligned. Or, if the fabric does overlap, I guess each flap is exactly half the thickness of the rest of the fabric, which should be doable with their access to precision manufacturing.

Cool. So now I’ve met a smoking hot freighter captain with 12 heads and twice as many excretion sphincters. I’d like to remove my garment. If it’s overlapping flaps, how do I get it started? Let me try pulling sideways instead. I’m now pulling in a direction that has to stay closed for the clothing to function, so any guidance (whether it’s magnets or Future Magnets) is going to be especially strong on this axis. We don’t want it popping open every time I stretch my legs or take a deep breath. Does it keep trying to “helpfully” snap back into place? How do I half-open my jacket without it re-zipping itself? With larger clothing closures, there’s an intentionality to how I interact with them. But with invisible clothing closures, there would always be that element of autocorrect.

If we want to build some intentionality back in, maybe there’s some kind of gesture control or tap zone that toggles it open/closed (with idk nanobots or something), plus various presets for partially open/closed. The second largest phylum, Mollusca contains over 76,000 living species and somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 extinct species, including the ammonites and helcionelloids. Living groups include the chitons, solenogasters, caudofoveates, cephalopods (octopuses, squids, cuttlefish, nautiloids, etc.), scaphopods, gastropods (slugs and snails), and bivalves.

Molluscs are highly diverse, living on land, in freshwater, and in saltwater, where they comprise over 23% of all named marine organisms. The most diverse molluscs are the gastropods which comprise over 80% of known molluscs. Due to their high diversity, the only things most molluscs have in common are a soft body composed almost entirely of muscle, a mantle with a significant cavity used for breathing and excretion, the presence of a radula (bivalves excluded), and the structure of their nervous system.

Many molluscs are endangered due to collecting and killing individuals for their meat and/or decorative shells.

Humans don’t just use mollusk meat and shells, but also luxuries like pearls, mother of pearl, Tyrian purple dye, and sea silk. As stated above, many species are now endangered due to human use, but some are farmed for their meat, pearls, and shells. To make this work, we need to integrate a robot with a human based nervous system, including the parts that receive sensory input (eyes, ears, smell, touch, movement/spatial position etc), and we need necessary supporting organs that keep the nervous system alive.

My job would be to design and construct the organic system. I did have some mandatory robotics and programming courses back in 2005, but zoned out. The inorganic parts are probably a lot of hydraulics (which would explain leaking issues when damaged).

Which organic parts do I think we need to keep a brain alive?

Air intake. Human tissue and brains are based on oxygen metabolism. We need an organ that can turn air into bioavailable oxygen.

Metabolism. Nerves make a lot of toxic waste when they work. That need to be cleaned up.

Glands. Because the nerves use transmitters and hormones to signal.

Immune system. Because the world want to eat organic tissue.

Sensory organs: skin, muscles, hearing, eyes. Studies show that the brain need sensory feedback, or the nerves will stop working. So even if we use hydraulics for most movement and cameras for sight, I think some sensory input need to be organic.

The rest we can make with machinery. We already have artificial hearts and kidneys and such.

And this is how I then think.

Bottom right is my major idea of how the system could work. I need a blood pump, but not a 4 chamber heart. As I compress the system and get energy from batteries, I can depend on hydrostatic pressure for most of the fluid movement. I don't care that it say it doesn't eat, we do have a nutrition intake, however it is going to a metabolism organ that is more like a liver than digestive system. Living cells make waste and need new matter.

I have cleaned it up a bit.

Clean, oxygenated blood goes to the brain and a bit to the body. From the brain it goes to the metabolism organ, where it's cleaned. Lymph vessels also clean up and lead extracellular fluid into the immune organ and then into the metabolism organ. The metabolism organ also receives nutrients from the recharge cycle, fluids from lungs and mouth, and can excrete waste during recharge cycle. Detoured deoxygenated blood is ten send to the lungs to oxygenate, and then up to the brain again.

It's pretty neat if you ask me.

It states it can hide some food in its lung, so I have made the lung with a residual room. (I'm pretty sure the author think of lungs as bellows, rather than sponges.) But honestly I think it's a good idea, because it can store a oxygen for a while, while in airless conditions. The lung is of course moved mechanically, not this fiddly diaphragm system we have.

Here the organs are spread out in a diagram. Of course it will be mashed together inside the costructs body.

I can fit it all into the thorax space. And next step is translating this diagram into how the organs would actually look.

So how do you produce electricity with living plants? Simply by using the natural processes that already occur. In short: the plant produces organic matter via photosynthesis. Only part of this organic matter is then used for its own growth. The rest is excreted via the roots. Around the roots, bacteria feed on the organic matter and they release electrons. Subterranean Clover

Trifolium subterraneum is also known as the subterranean clover (often shortened to sub clover), or subterranean trefoil. The plant's name comes from its underground seed development, a characteristic not possessed by other clovers. It can thrive in poor-quality soil where other clovers cannot survive.

This species is self-fertilizing, unlike most legume forage crops such as alfalfa and other clovers, which are pollinated by insects, especially honeybees. It is also grown in places where the extreme ranges of soil type and quality, rainfall, and temperature make the variable tolerances of sub clover especially useful.

Functionality

GR96 are powered by any plant of choosing on their back pod (the one we are going to discuss has a giant Sedum Oviferum and multiple sub clovers to operate) which is held in place by five strong suction cups. They’re manufactured for community gardens (strictly only one per garden), but they can also be bought by high class citizens for private properties, though at a way bigger cost since they’re financed by the city.

They can use their hands as scissors, shovels, and for watering (hence the big forearms, for storing the water), the latter which they do by dipping their hands in a bucket, opening the valve on their forearms so they can fill them up and releasing the water from the pinholes on their palms. The mask (non removable) has a set of pipes that are used for analyzing the air quality and humidity of the area surrounding them.

Yeah so sweating is a method you body uses to expel stuff. Not like ToxinsTM but generally you do excrete more than just salt and it’s a useful mechanism that’s part of a healthy body. It’s also important because if sweat isn’t kicking in you can badly overheat and that’s not great.

What to do about it? Move more. A weekly exercise of your choice can help train your body to work up a sweat more easily. People who exercise a lot more have bodies that begin to sweat at the least exertion cause their systems are primed and ready to cool off. You don’t have to go nuts but sweating some is healthy and good for you.

Edit to add: not sweating can also be a symptom of some medical conditions and it definitely was for me so keep that in mind.
