the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

hi!👋 hello! kedreeva! i’m going to need to ask you to explain this!!!!

So back in 2009, a lab student named Annie Le was murdered at Yale university. Cameras saw her going on into a building, but not out again and it was like, the eve of her wedding (or close to? I don't remember) so clearly she had places to be and people waiting for her so they immediately started looking and the next day (or so? Anyway on the day of her wedding) they found her body in a recess in a wall, down in the areas where the research animals were kept. It turns out, a tech had killed her, but since there were cameras like EVERYWHERE, he just, I guess, left her there. Well, hid the body where it was. I don't remember how they caught him, but they did. It was a horrifying story. It still is.

And it was a huge news story among the folks at my workplace because, at the time, I was working at a different university, as an animal husbandry technician. As you can imagine this was a kind of intense time to be in that situation. They started offering, like, I'm not gonna say counseling but it was "if you need to talk we would prefer you talk to us about something wrong rather than kill anyone about it" and as techs (even if we were not even the same kind of tech, the killer was a lab tech and we were husbandry techs but I think a lot of people assumed it had been a husbandry tech since she was in an animal area), we were kind of getting the side eye from lab people for weeks afterwards. Like they thought we were gonna go "wow that's a fantastic idea, you're next!" or something, idk. And I mean like, people would freeze when you were alone in a hallway, or turn and walk the other way, or duck into the nearest room and watch you walk past, and they were all being super nice/civil to us when they did have to interact. It was very atypical behavior for lab people. Like not all of them, some of them had always been nice and weren't worried, but some of the people who had been unbelievable dicks previously were walking on eggshells. And the people who had friends in other universities reported this was happening at their jobs, too.

And instead of talking to The Man (because all the higher ups were garbage at the time), we just. talked among ourselves. It was a lot of "I may say I feel like strangling lab people sometimes when they do things that drive me up a wall but I don't MEAN it you know that right" and it also led to group discussions of what would be a theoretical *better* solution to hiding a body than what happened, with clear disdain for doing things like hiding bodies in walls, which is a terrible idea and one we would never do (looking at the people who think we might have decided this was a great idea actually).

Which consequently led to a lot of supervisors and/or managers that happened to overhear us bringing us donuts or arranging pizza for lunch in like, some kind of bid to help us feel appreciated, I guess, so that we wouldn't murder anyone, even though none of us were going to do that anyway. But also none of us were in a position to turn down free donuts or pizza or whatever.

And then after a few weeks, maybe a month or so, people just kind of forgot and moved on and things went back to normal like fifty people hadn't spent every lunch hour for weeks talking quietly among themselves about how human bodies would definitely fit into a carcass disposal barrel or that you'd have to crush hip bones and/or skulls before incineration. Hypothetically.

Like I said, it was a VERY weird time to be at my job, and every time I remember it happening feels like a fever dream. I can't even imagine what it was like at Yale.

I wanted to talk about Toothless and how his design and personality changed for the worst throughout the 3 animated movies (I won't be tackling any of the shows because I haven't watched them)

In the first movie he's at his best. His design is actually amazing, from the overall model structure to the patterns on his skin (which are visible in every shot, especially the ones taking place during the day, without ruining the 'illusion' of his black skin. It actually feels like it's resembling a panther aka black leopard in which the fur patterns are still visible). His face has a more aerodynamic shape, more sharp, a big curve.

His snarky but intelligent personality was really fitting for him. And we got to see more of it as the movie was progressing and he was getting more comfortable with humans.

In the second movie the patterns on his skin are still mostly there, way less prominent but still visible. His face got squashed down (a problem which only because stronger in the 3rd movie) but as a whole he still looks presentable, kinda. His posture changed too (but I'm too lazy to find evidence, you'll have to take my word for it).

I remember not having a problem with his personality in the second movie which is why I was surprised to see that this was only half true. He acts more domesticated, that's to be expected, but only around humans? When he interacts with other dragons it's like he's a completely different character, closer to what he became in httyd 3 than 1. He's still quite intelligent and more used to human equipment and people in general. In the first part of the film (especially this scene with Hiccup) he acts like how I'd imagine he should be in the 3rd movie, here it should have been a 'middle' ground, not 100% domesticated but not movie 1 feral either.

In the third movie he suffered the worst. Gone are the patterns on his skin, he's solid black now. His face got weirder too.

His personality got reduced to this stupid, slobbering 'dog'. His pupils are always dilated and his tongue almost constantly out. He acts unintelligent and he doesn't have that snarky personality he had in the first and even the second movie. He's basically a different character altogether. (That scene where he tries to 'woo' the light fury is embarrassing at best and shows exactly what's wrong with his character now).

They did it to make him more 'likable' to younger audiences + to make a good visual contrast to the light fury (who has an undercooked personality AND awful design as well), which is weird because they gave the light fury patterns on her wings?

The light fury looks like a beluga whale in the worst way possible. She has almost nothing going on visually to the point it doesn't even make sense. Her skin looks fragile, she's so weirdly smooth for no reason. It would legit be better if they took a night fury model and painted it white.

They gave her a 'cat' personality and took it away from Toothless (why couldn't both be 'cats'?). Also she's the 'girl' character, her only purpose is to be the romantic interest. She adds nothing to the film.

No comment in the live action design. Just ugly. Atrocious even.

Also something else that's been bothering me from the live action remake is this scene.

They've basically recreated every scene exactly as it was in the original so far (which is a bad thing) but the slight hesitation Toothless showed before touching Hiccups hand was the one thing they chose not to include? (I know the scene wasn't meant to have that in the beginning and it was an error in animation which they decided to keep because it gave the scene more personality so, why not include it in the live action?)

february 14th has not been a good day at jujutsu high. 

you figured valentines couldn’t be that bad, even though you weren’t dating anyone. you could celebrate with your friends, right? platonic love isn’t dead! 

one problem: you were called for a mission first thing in the morning. of all the days, you think. it’s tough, but not impossible, but you still find yourself wiped afterwards. even worse, once you get back to the school it seems like everyone’s just vanished into thin air!

nobara’s probably out shopping with maki, panda is sparring with inumaki outside, yuuji had been sent on a mission same as you earlier, and megumi is nowhere to be found. 

utterly defeated (and feeling incredibly alone), you retreat to your room to sulk in peace and quiet. 

you’ve been laying in bed listening to hardly-valentine-appropriate music for god knows how long when there’s a knock on your door. 

you toss over, covering your ears with your pillow. “i’m asleep!” you grumble loudly. 

“um, it’s yuuji! can i come in?”

you muffle a groan into the pillow before dragging yourself up to the door. 

you open it, blowing a loose strand of hair out of your face. 

“hi, itadori.”

part of you is embarrassed to face his golden-retriever smile with your current attitude, but you figure ignoring him would be worse. 

“you look upset,” he notes as you lead him into your room and sit back on your bed. 

“well, i’m not!” you snap. upon seeing his eyes go big, your heart sinks. “i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to be mean. it’s just…did you get any valentines today, yuuji?”

he thinks on it for a second. “well…kugisaki gave me a chocolate and gojo-sensei gave me a funny little card.”

great. you frown down at your lap, feeling incredibly stupid. 

“you didn’t?” he asks, curious. it takes another second to put your thoughts together. 

“it’s just…you know me, i’m not a super sappy person. and i don’t worry about things as trivial as romance, ‘cause it seems so superficial in the world we live in, y’know? but it’s just…i don’t know, i guess today is just putting me in a sour mood.”

you heave a sigh, toying with the hem of your uniform jacket. “sorry to be such a downer.”

itadori is quiet for a second, and it’s so unlike him that you look up curiously. he’s rummaging through his pockets, mumbling to himself. 

he beams when he pulls out a piece of paper. he presents it to you triumphantly, grin plastered on his face. 

“gojo-sensei sent me to give this to you. i’m guessing he couldn’t find you since you were sulking around in here. that’s why i came. well…that and, i was worried.”

you stare down at the card, dumbfounded. it has a printed image of a smiling watermelon slice, the words you’re one in a melon emblazoned in bold letters across the top. you almost laugh, but your mind is lingering on yuuji’s words. 

“what did you say?” 

“huh? gojo-sensei asked me to give you the card ‘cause he couldn’t find you,” he repeats dutifully. 

“no, after that.”

“oh, that i was worried?”

“yeah,” you murmur, brow furrowing as you think it over. he was worried? about you?

yuuji shrugs, easy smile still on his face. he’s so cute. “i dunno. you’re usually so energetic, ‘n i figured it had to be bad for you to be so down in the dumps. and i really like you, so i thought i should give you a visit to help cheer you up!”

i really like you. did he really just say that, or are you imagining things?

“you…you like me?” you tilt your head to the side as you gaze at yuuji. you search his eyes for any sign of untruth, thinking maybe he was joking or he didn’t mean it the way you took it. but you know yuuji wouldn’t say something like that if he didn’t.

“of course i do!” he says, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. his cheeks tinge pink and he scratches awkwardly at his neck. “actually, i don’t know if it’s too late to ask, or if you think it’s too cheesy or whatever…but…do you wanna be my valentine?”

he’s looking at you now, this time it’s him searching your eyes for reassurance. 

you blink at him, head spinning from this conversation. you decide to try not to think too hard about any of it, to be more like yuuji and say and do instead of think and overthink. 

so without thinking, you lean over and close the distance between you until your lips are brushing against his.

his lips are soft. everything about yuuji is soft, except for maybe his crazy muscles. but his lips are a special kind of soft, the kind that make you want to kiss him forever. 

but you don’t want to freak him out or pass out from loss of breath, so you pull away after a moment. 

his eyes are still closed and his lips are still parted slightly, and you think maybe he’s still holding his breath. 

“pinch me,” he murmurs, eyes still shut. 

you giggle breathlessly. “what?”

yuuji’s honey-colored eyes flutter open, smile overtaking his features. “i said pinch me, ‘cause there’s no way this is real.”

you hum, lacing your fingers through his. “better believe it.”

“so i take that as a yes?”

“yes, yuuji, i will gladly be your valentine.”
