Anyway comedic start to this post aside, I've actually shipped it since the EVO days so... Uhh *Shuffles Papers* At least 2017, yeah I've been a fan of this ship for 7 years

Back in 2017 is because they were homoerotic border lined married officers of the law (Acab I'm sorry Jimmy and Martyn) I mean they bought matching vacation homes, and while it is a little bit of Toxic Yaoi (We love Toxic Yaoi here) it also is genuine, Martyn and Jimmy care deeply for each other, even when they hop to a new world they stick together, despite disbanding the Property Police. They have each other's back and have undying loyalty to each other and it's fucking gay tbh like helllooooooooooooo

No body matches their freak like each other

BUT rant about EVO aside, i have some... Headcanons/concepts for The Life Series (I've never seen the life series,,,) so if it's conflicting with stuff I apologize but I do try to work with what I know

One other thing of note is I'm really really into The Listener Jimmy headcanon and one of additional headcanons related to that is Jimmy being a blue canary prior to becoming a Listener, his feathers changing to yellow when he becomes one

NOW the reason I made this post. My Solidwood (I'm gonna keep calling it that) Listener!Jimmy and Martyn headcanon I wanted to ramble about

Again prior to the Life Series, during EVO Jimmy is a normal blue Canary, there was nothing irregular about him, that is how Martyn remembers him

But the next time he sees Jimmy, during Third Life, there's something different about him, his bright sky blue feathers are replaced by almost blinding yellow ones. His wingspan has grown to be larger then it was prior, Jimmy's ears (? Feather things) are always twitching, Jimmy seems more hyper aware of the things around him, like he can hear something, like he's being watched.

And something about how Jimmy's face sometimes doesn't seem right, there's a level of uncannyness about how perfect it is, how angelic his voice has become, Martyn loved everything about Jimmy prior, his imperfections being perfect to him and while he doesn't love him any less, the Jimmy he remembers is gone, it nags at him, especially when in the wrong angle, his eyes are a sharp yellow, or how his face figures shift into something he can't make a single detail on.

And it isn't just Martyn, he's noticed how tension enters both Jimmy and Grian the first few times they cross pathes, silent stares like they're studying eachother, waiting for the other to do something. It weirdly enough changes though, a few loops in, becoming a mutual understanding, mutual pity for the other. BigB and Pearl also seem tense around Jimmy, though it's more one sided, like they know something, understanding far deeper then Jimmy does himself.

Martyn still loves Jimmy, he can't bring himself to not, he loves his touch, his laughter, smile and the quiet words they exchange with each other deep into the night. But it's not the same, it's not the Timmy he knew, even if Jimmy doesn't outwardly act any different, there's just things he can't hide. Martyn has in a lot of ways, tried to learn to accept it, to accept him, even if he's not exactly the same man he use to know...

But sometimes, just rare enough that he's never vocalized it, Martyn will look at him right, his breath will hitch and his heart will still....

Because in the right light, Jimmy looks like that Blue Carney Martyn fell in love with all those years ago.

If you want him to wear it since it’s connected to the life series I get it. But I’m not sure the updates are even to when he did start wearing the link skin?

I could be wrong about that though, tracking mc skin timelines is kinda hard

I only know back as far as YHS, which was 2015 (EVO being 2017)

-> june 06 2018 evo stream: this is the real idea conception, he mentions netty and martyn as part of this. it was planned to be for 40k and he talks about how grian is a good cook and would get into it with the netty.

[theres more miscellaneous mentions besides this afterwards so only the important ones from now on, just know jimmy loves to talk about how good at cooking grian is :D! he gets real excited to tell us about grian cooking for him, outside of this specific context as well.]

-> june 20 2018 evo stream: proposes the idea to grian onstream :) this where grian proposes the wheel of ingredients too. and says jim has to eat it all LOL.

-> june 27 2018 evo stream: hes on call with grian and they talk about it here. much of the same this is just important because its one of the last major mentions before jim hits 40k and it doesnt happen because they lived far-ish away from each other (by british standards LOL, around 3 hours maybe 3.5 iirc).

-> july 24 2018 summer camp stream: hes moved it up to 50k after explaining that because they live so far from each other he didnt get to do so for 40k: "me and grian are going to cook together, hes going to be the cook and im going to be the builder!"

-> august 27 2020 manhunt stream: Big jump. someone in chat asks about the prospect of cooking with grian for 100k. because its been So Long. jim basically jumps out of his skin going: "i need to do a cooking video with grian!!! i do!!! im actually seeing grian soon... so i'll make sure we do do a cooking video..."

It can be set in the early 2000s or the 2010s, but I draw the line at 2016-2017. Nope. No. Not dealing with Covid again through writing. 2020 sucked, and it can sink beneath the waves like Atlantis. Be gone, foul year!

In your Bamf babies Evo AU, how would the bamfs feel about Irene Adler (aka Destiny)? And how would she react when she learns about them?

I feel like there isn't a big opportunity for them to interact. In the Evo time line I'm pretty sure the canon was still azazel is kurts Dad, or some random Austrian elite. The destiny is Kurt's other mother was only confirmed in 2017 and I'm not sure how that applies to past animated media. Evolution is one of only two film media adaptations that even acknowledge that Kurt's mother is mystique and the other one doesn't have destiny as Kurt's mom, but an Austrian lord being his other parent, because that's what was canon to the comics at the time. I'm pretty sure that Evo is following whatever is canon at the time for parentage but I wouldn't know what that would mean except for destiny is likely more like a step mother to Kurt than a bio mother, especially considering the only connection they focus on for rogue and Kurt that makes them siblings is Mystique being Kurt's bio mom and having shared custody of rogue as an adoptive parent. Destiny is only ever referenced in regards to Rogue as a parent. In my turn of the century au destiny absolutely is his other bio parent tho.

I imagine mystique goes to destiny and is just like "why didn't you tell me my son had kids?!"

And destiny, who saw no premonitions of Kurt having kids until Talia years from now is just like. "What on earth are you talking about?! He doesn't. he isn't even going to go to bed with someone till he gets drunk in college three years from now."

This leads to mystique and her realizing that those things aren't babies and could be a threat, so with genuine concern mystique is trying to contact Xavier and the rest but because of past history with her, and specifically her unexplained reasons for trying to hand baby Kurt over to magneto....yeah they aren't too keen to believe her or let her remove the bamfs from his custody. Infact they are pretty violently not letting her get involved.

This probably is what helps wolverine to avoid trying to tell Kurt these aren't his kids for some time considering "well regardless, if mystique wants them, they are probably something we need to keep safe anyways. No use in causing drama right now while we gotta look out for her stealing them."

Evos (2017): (important characters is Grian, Pearl, Matyn, Jimmy, & BigB) Evos is not connected to the life series as a season but the start where the Watchers were able to control what adventures the players would go on but they started to get greedy for negative emotions and cause chaos. Eventually the Watchers leader (Herobrine) died off leaving Persephone (Arg!Lizzie) in charge and she was way more corrupt than him. 

By that point Evos had already ended and the Watchers asked Grian to join them, he refused and escaped to Hermitcraft [season 6]. 

Persephone got mad and wanted to punish him (of course she would be displeased by her own younger brother betraying her) so she created this game...

I remember you mentioning “The Watchers”, who are they? Can you tell me some lore behind them?

This is a rabbit hole that I don’t fully have time to go down myself right now but there’s a gold mine of information here and it can be split into about 3 parts.

From what I know:

There’s the original Watcher lore which is canon to Grian’s Evolution SMP, which started in 2017 and ended just over a year later. My knowledge of the SMP is mostly second hand, but the premise of it was to run through all updates of minecraft in order from the earliest version (buggy, grainy, fairly difficult to survive) to the more recent ones (transitioning bit by bit into the game we know today)

Evo smp and watcher lore is really concisely explained in a tumblr post here.

from the Evo wiki: Grian's final episode of the server was of the dragon fight, where he joined The Watchers when everyone jumped through the portal after killing the dragon. His joining of the Watchers had a modified end screen poem, where a text color representing Grian and additional text mentioning some of the other Evo members was added in. if you follow the link to The Watchers you’ll get more information on what exactly they are!

Grian talked about Evo and the watchers briefly in a podcast a good few years back (co-run by the same person who voices the Hermitcraft recap actually, Pixlriffs!) - when he joined Hermitcraft in Season 6, it's my understanding that his version of watcher lore ended with Evo. Canonically, Hermitcraft!Grian isn’t influenced by them at all. This isn’t the case in fan lore, which I’ll touch on later. There happen to be some incredibly interesting example of a what-if-they-do-follow/influence/kidnap/affect-him by talented writers, so if you want fanfic recommendations just ask :3

Where it gets really interesting is that creator Martyn, ign InTheLittleWood, decided to continue a version of watcher lore. This "eyesandears" (<- tumblr tag for it. Will contain spoilers) watcher lore is only canon to his interpretation of the series, and isn’t a server-wide thing that others incorporate into their videos. This runs throughout the life series and includes cryptic poems/rhymes, elaborate reasonings for why canonical events took place, Jimmy’s canary curse, who remembers the events of previous seasons and so on.

Note that the life series isn’t scripted, and has very loose guidelines for how players should act besides adhering to the rules. Martyn therefore has the story adapt as the series evolves (pun unintended), and a great example of this was his stream after limited life (life series iteration number 4) ended. He’s also on tumblr, because of course. This is his vod - I don’t have the time to go through it again myself. It contains lots of spoilers, but if you hang around in the fandom long enough you’ll begin to recognise the winners of each season and a few key events/alliances/betrayals/plot points regardless. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As far as I know, none of the other life series creators really know much about this or keep this in mind when the life series is going. It doesn’t influence them, nor does Martyn seem to go out of his way to incorporate huge amounts of it into his own pov. The lore adapts to what the players do, not the other way around.

There’s also the fanon (fan canon) watcher lore which is incredibly well (and quickly!) covered by Ezzriin, I’ll link that video here - this is more important for understanding why Grian’s depicted the way he is (and exactly what that usually entails).

The links I’ve included explain things better and more concisely than I can. Martyn’s 2 hour vod may take some time to get through, but I recommend at least checking out the others! :)

Hey so I've been thinking about your x-life post and Jimmy violently murdering chickens cause I remembered he did that in evo too and I am also really curious as to why so I did some digging and basically In evosmp episode 4 (8:12) Jimmy says “I have a thing about killing chickens” which Martyn responds to with “You get a little trigger happy around them don’t you”. So ok clearly there's something weird with chickens here (this is around the 11th of October 2017 by the way) Now in a stream on the 29th of August 2017 someone calls him a chicken murder in chat, mentioning place race. So ok what is place race? It's a series where Jimmy and Netty race to get a certain item / block in like a continuous world (so each episode is a new block but they make progress in the world as they go) (I think I only skimmed a video) Anyway here Netty has a chicken she names Jimmy which Jimmy kills because Netty is like implying Jimmy doesn't exist saying she doesn't know anyone named Jimmy. (Place race season 2 episode 4, 2:02). Netty in the next episode pranks Jimmy as revenge for this (at least I hope it's for this) (this is around the 31st July, 2017) So basically I think that this moment happened and then people started calling him a chicken murderer so he started murdering chickens. Cause I mean then in episode 6 of place race he says that a chiken party calls for making chicken nuggets. (14th August 2017) Before this he's normal about chickens before this, for example in another stream Netty mentions they're the best mob to be in some hypixel minigame and Jimmy just says "yeah and cats" (paraphrased).

This might make me look a little insane I did just search chicken in YouTube transcripts and then sort from old to new to find out when he started being like this.

Wow ok. So the chicken hatred IS tied to his image in some form. It started from a joke implying he didn't exist, as if he's that unimportant... Netty was just joking for sure and I don't hold anything against her but in hindsight... the themes match up... My friend pointed to a moment where he was compared to a chicken (derogatory) which I can't imagine helps but that was way after X Life. The day he embraces his rancher self and consistently cares for chickens is the day that he can start to care for himself too... sorry what yeah we're both insane
