Reverse Unpopular Opinion: Noriaki Kakyoin
I really like that he's a bastard, might actually be my favorite thing about him. He's designed to be "the thin and sensitive one", he's made to be pretty and attractive to an extent the others aren't, and of course he's given a very sympathetic and tragic backstory and death, but a lot of the time the spotlight's on him, he's kind of a mean jerk but in a really understated fashion that makes it funny. There is a line of succession among Araki's pointedly villainous heroes that starts with B.T and is embodied in the current protagonist Jodio, and I think Kakyoin is in there, predating the likes of Rohan and Giorno. It's not for nothing that he is our first villain Stand user, and why they make a point of contrasting his charming honor student personality with his horrible gross tentacle puppet power.
I also like that this ties into his prideful personality, and the reasons why he's tagging along to defeat DIO. He's a guy who's grown used to being disconnected from people and ostracized and self-reliant (much of what I love about Death 13 retroactively is that it's hitting Kakyoin hard with this before we understand why this is a personal button for him, and it's not a beat that would work with the other Crusaders), having maybe the closest bond with his Stand that we see among the Crusaders, and his dynamic with DIO is interesting to me because he blames himself for falling victim to DIO more so than he blames DIO for it. It comes up more prominently in the D'Arby fight and the finale that he's pushing through not just a deep fear, but also a form of self-hatred whenever he thinks about what DIO did to him. He feels ashamed and humiliated and even abused, even knowing about DIO's power and the flesh buds and having seen others in his situation, seeing what happened to Polnareff and Enya, and it doesn't really dissuade him from this thinking.
It's that whole speech he gives to Jotaro in his debut about how evil is determined by who wins and who loses: people tend to forget it because he's being brainwashed, but the flesh bud doesn't alter personalities like that, Polnareff refutes this in his first encounter. That wasn't the fleshbud, that was Kakyoin talking, and he'd come back to that sentiment later. He lost to DIO, nothing else mattered, he was the loser and thus the evil one. And so he wants to make up for it, to stand up to DIO again and not give in, to be freed from him. He's constantly putting his friends first during the journey but at his most personal, when he's steeling himself, he thinks back to that and swears to overcome it. People talk a lot about how Kakyoin was a mega hit with the female demographic because he's pretty and charming in a way the sweaty buff men aren't and because he makes a good pair with Jotaro, and okay sure that's part of it, but I think the fact that his arc being that intimate, that tragic, and panning out into a story about overcoming abuse and standing strong in the face of your abuser, even if all you can do is save others from him, that was the secret ingredient. Intentionally or not, that stings pretty deep.
But mostly I like him because he is a bastard, and he's the character who's not supposed to look or act like one, so the fact that he is makes it better. "Tricking your friends into feeding a baby his own shit" is not a beat that would work with the others, or even something you could land, no matter how evil the baby was, if the guy doing it wasn't capable of selling it as a cool and funny and karmically satisfying thing to be doing.

AU where Jotaro stops N'Doul from commit die and he joins the Crusaders. I think he'd fit better than Hol Horse, as much as I like that concept too. He's honourable and really intelligent, and he went out of his way to spare Iggy so he really isn't as evil as he says he is. Plus, there's a lot of potential for character growth where he goes from serving and fearing Dio for the barest minimum of being nice to him, to being treated as a friend and equal by the Crusaders and realising he deserves better.
I also think he'd get along well with the Crusaders, especially Jotaro. Kakyoin would be extremely salty at first but he'd warm up to him eventually with their similar backgrounds. Joseph constantly makes Daredevil references N'Doul absolutely does not get, but he'd be welcoming. Polnareff probably accepts him easily too. Avdol might be suspicious for a while but he'd be happy to have a friend who shares his native tongue.
A little off-topic but I could see him befriending Wamuu too.
I love him so much. I have a list of headcanons I made for him, he's such a fascinating character.
(Also if you have not seen the OVA version of the fight between Jotaro and N'Doul I really recommend it!)
interesting.. i never would’ve considered n’doul to join the crusaders but I see the potential
I feel like if wamuu were to meet him they’d bond over the utilization of their different strengths and stuff like dat >_<
also!!! I rlly need to watch the ova oh my goodness the animation looks so GOOD

So I was scrolling through some old messages and found an. Honestly really interesting concept for an AU which I totally forgot about
AU where Holly doesn't call Joseph about the whole “Jotaro’s locked himself in jail” situation
Essentially the idea is that Joot is sitting and vibing in the jail cell just like canon, however this time when Holly shows up take him back home, he ends up noticing things because she’s now alone and his sole focus. Be it because if his own observation skills or because if Star’s incredibly precise vision, he ends up noticing some things
He notices his mother is paler than she usually is, that she’s having a bit of difficulty breathing, that over all she looks weaker and more strained than she usually is
Jotaro may be terrified of hurting his mother. But he’s even more terrified of leaving her alone sick with no one to take care of her, so it’s enough to get him out of the cell and go home.
And then the second they get through the door, she collapses.
Only it’s the evil spirit which catches her, far faster than Jotaro could have. And despite Jotaro’s worst fears of it hurting her.... it doesn’t. Instead, it just carefully cradles her fevered form and gently gives her to him. Jotaro then takes her to her room, lies her down, and starts caring for her best he can with the Possibly-Not-That-Evil Spirit’s help.
The next days rolls around, in which Jotaro skips school to care for his mom....... only for Kakyoin to show up.
There’s a fight, the house gets more than a little damage, Jotaro goes absolutely ballistic when he realizes they’re getting closer to the room his mom is in, and ends up knocking Kakyoin the fuck out. He also takes out the flesh bud because What The Fuck Is That Why Is It In Your Head Why Is It Going Up My Arm-
Fast forward a couple more hours. Kakyoin awakens to being tied up and very beat up in a closet. A few minutes of fumbling and trying to figure out what’s going on and eventually Jotaro opens the door with a “are you feeling less crazy and murderous now or do I have to knock you out again?”
They talk, both get answers about What The Fuck Is Going On, and realize their best bet of saving Holly is to find Dio, and maybe beat him up if necessary. Kakyoin remembers him having an enormous library and a bunch of other Stand Users around, so somebody was bound to know something about Holly’s clearly Stand Given Condition.
So they’re off. Jotaro leaves his mother with some neighbors he knew she liked and with the surprising amount of funds Dio had given Kakyoin, they start their journey.
Fast forward a few more hours..... and Joseph ends up getting a call from the hospital. Those neighbors Jotaro left Holly with? Yeah they were really really concerned about her health so she was brought to a hospital which.... you know what fair. Joseph was one of her emergency contacts, and he puts together the possible Stand Involvement so Avdol comes to.
They go check in with the hospital, Avdol confirms it’s a Stand Thing.... and they also learn that Jotaro had left the jail cell but hasn’t visited his mother since she was admitted. So Joseph and Avdol start head back to the Kujo House, and Joseph is prepared to kick his ass for not visiting his mother, offer a shoulder if the kid’s not visiting because Emotions, or both. Plus he also starts planning on explaining Stands and how killing Dio was the only way to save Holly
What he wasn’t prepared for was to find clear signs of a fight alongside blood, because Jotaro and Kakyoin..... didn’t leave the house in the best shape. Joseph then realizes that Dio got to Jotaro before they did, and now is doubly motivated to go and kick Dio’s ass.
So now we have two groups. Jotaro and Kakyoin(and maybe Polnareff) heading to Egypt at a more leisurely pace while trying to learn as much about Stands as they can along the way, and then Joseph going on an absolute war path with Avdol and Iggy
Bonus points if Joseph keeps using Hermit Purple at the worst possible times and getting Seemingly Not Great photos of Jotaro’s situation, double bonus points if they keep nearly missing each other along the way

My...Purpose?
Summary: Just a few of my thoughts on Polnareff's life (I have more just wanted to put this bit to start)
Content: JJBA part 3 spoilers (Sherry, deaths), JJBA part 5 spoilers (in regard to Stands, the Boss, Polnareff's ending), kinda just general thoughts about polnareff's life, its angsty
Word Count: 470+
A/N: I've had these thoughts in my mind for a while now and it was my intention to write a little drabble in regard to them, but I feel like that might never happen so I would like the put them out there and if I do end up writing the drabble/one-shot, then perfect! two fics lol. I hope you all enjoy!
↞ to Jjba Masterlist | Request Rules | Blog Navigation ↠
Polnareff raised Sherry
Their mom died when Sherry was a baby and Polnareff was really young
Their father was never truly in the picture
Just barely there enough to keep a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs
Until he left them all together leaving Polnareff the sole caretaker of Sherry
He spent most of his life working
He didn’t care about his education enough to decline a shift or seek higher education
All he cared about was making sure he could keep their house and keep Sherry fed, clothed, and as happy as she could be
He poured his whole life into taking care of her
So when she died, it broke him
He left heartbroken
He felt lost
Just completely and utterly alone
He thought of nothing else besides getting revenge on the person who hurt her and took her from him
So when he finally gets his revenge, he feels lost again
Alone
So he poured his heart and energy into this fight against DIO
But when DIO is defeated
And everyone goes their separate ways
He begins to feel lost and alone once more
A drift with nowhere to go
We know he went back home to France,
but I think he didn’t even step inside his childhood home
It would be too painful
So I think he travels around the world under the guise of “finding other Stand Users”
Maybe to train them
Maybe to make sure they don’t use their power for evil
But he really has no purpose in life after everything is said and done
Going back to school?
Getting a job?
No
No that’s just not on the table anymore
He can’t just sit still anymore
So when he finds out about the Stand Arrows
He latches onto that thread and follows it as far as it goes
It doesn’t matter that it brings him toe to toe with Diavolo
It doesn’t matter that his body is broken
It doesn’t matter his friend left him in Italy with no hope of escape
Because he can now pour his life and soul into stopping some grand evil once more
And he doesn’t have to live alone with his thoughts about Sherry and Kakyoin and Avdol and Iggy
So no, it doesn’t matter to him that he’s killed
Doesn’t matter that he possesses a turtle
As long as they get the bad guy
As long as he doesn’t have to think about the people he’s lost
But after Diavolo is gone?
He begins to feel that lost feeling all over again
But he joins Giorno
Is glad to become his right-hand man and help run this grand mafia operation
Because he’ll do or be anything
As long as he doesn’t have to think about the past
As long as he’s not alone again

Hey, this may seem like a random ask, but what do you think of the fan theory of Diavolo being possessed by a demon instead of having actual DID. In a world where vampires exist, zombies exist, the Pillar Men exist and aliens are implied to exist, having demons exist makes perfect sense to me.
To be honest with you, anon, I don't like that theory. I think it flattens a lot of Diavolo's intrigue as well as the depth between him and Doppio. I think the fact that it's a fairly popular fan theory only speaks to the unfortunately ableist and demonizing way their DID was written and handled in canon.
Personally, I don't believe it's an intentional implication- not in the manga, at least. It's definitely suggested something supernatural is going on with their mysterious birth circumstances, but I don't believe that's supposed to mean that Diavolo and Doppio are actually something completely different from a person with DID. Polnareff's description of how DID works in Jojo (one soul splits and develops into two souls due to childhood trauma) matches Diavolo and Doppio's situation seemingly perfectly; they are pretty consistently shown as one human soul that was split into two due to childhood trauma.
Sans the weird birth, Diavolo doesn't show any traits of a definitively non-human soul (unlike Jojo's vampires, zombies, and implied aliens), and in fact, he's often referred to as the "true form" and the body's "true nature"; if he were a demon possessing Doppio, how would he be the body's "true nature"? I also feel like it's suggested that Diavolo not only was always there, but holds childhood trauma with the way he was raised by a priest who named him "Devil" and Doppio seemingly lacking most of his past memories. It doesn't match up with the "Diavolo is actually an evil demon hijacking some guy's body" concept to me.
I do not like it when people frame Diavolo as a "born evil" character. I think it's much more interesting to consider him as "evil as hell and hard to pick out his intentionally-obscured feelings, but feelings are there". I much prefer thinking about Diavolo and Doppio through the lens of severe festering trauma combined with the goal of cutting out your humanity for power and empire. I think Diavolo is far more interesting as a human corrupted by greed, hurting himself in the process, than a demon doing evil for demon reasons.
With that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the anime adaptation was trying to suggest Diavolo was something inhuman. They change the baby's eyes to Doppio's and have them flash red for no explainable reason, and their backstory is altered to be far more Doppio-centric, including deleting the mention of their legal name actually being "Diavolo". I suspect that the anime was a big boost to the demon possession fan theory (and I've expressed before that I dislike many of the anime changes).
Diavolo as a character is definitely left very open for speculation, but those are my general thoughts on that idea in particular.

My take on Diavolo's backstory according to the manga
"Is Diavolo the devil himself, possessing Doppio? Or is it a did/mpd situation?"
"Her heart contained darkness" could be a way to say that Diavolo's mother definitely wasn't a good person and there was evil in her heart. Darkness is often used in Scripture as a symbol of sin and its effects. She could totally be an abuser if we ALSO look at Polnareff's specific example "The minds of Billy Milligan". I've looked it up, and you know who also had a severe story of abuse during his childhood, which caused the Dissociative Identity Disorder? Billy ✨
Some additional thoughts in relation to a song I think fits him very much (Also included in the playlist I made for him)
Was listening to Stratovolcano Mouth by Chiodos because I remembered about an old piece I painted to vent, and the emotions that song revives really drag me to Diavolo's past: an incontrollable amount of anger and fear, perfectly mixed, resulting into exploding like a volcano and leading him to physically destroy everything that was hurting him, including his self representation. Diavolo died in that fire he set himself. He was done with the pain he experienced and love wasn't the salvation he needed. I'm sure he felt something for Donatella, but his negative mindset poisoned by fear only made it look like a promise for even more pain in the future. She was the only one that truly loved him, but what does Diavolo know about love?

Sword gays showdown, round 1, bracket two
Propaganda:
For Aki Hayakawa:
Aki is literally the goat of Chainsaw Man. Always acts like he doesn't care about others and then proceeds to put his life on the line for his angel boyfriend who could literally kill him just by touching him.
For Polnareff:
While he might not wield a sword himself, his stand fights with a sword that was most commonly used by French Musketeers. He is everything. He is going on a revenge quest for his little sister but also has time to have fun with his buddies and scream at foreign toilets. He's depressed, he lost close friends (AND HIS "ROOMATE" AVDOL SMH ARAKI) and deals with the pain of basically being the one of the only living members of the stardust crusaders. But it gets worse. and worse. And then his ghost is inside a turtles body so ok! But yeah, babygirl french swordsman who life hasn't been nice to.
He comes from a part with simple abilities like punch, boat, fire, and his is sword. He is quite good with sword. To the point he gets passed by evil sword and becomes a danger of punch guy. Also he and Avdol kissed 100%
oh he is SO bisexual. immense bisexuality. and his stand silver chariot is literally just a guy w a sword he makes it his whole personality he is a manwhore with a sword ghost and he rocks and umm yeah

okay this applies to all genderbends but i'm mostly thinking about jjba here (no surprise to anyone). but like genderbends where they make canon cis male characters into these big-boobied curvy long-haired makeup-wearing babes with NO muscles is so funny because if you asked me "what would caesar zeppeli and joeseph joestar look like as women" i would tell you they'd look exactly the same as they do in canon. every canon jjba cis man is actually a woman to me except the ones i dont like and/or it's funnier if they're a man and/or it's jonathan joestar (he's my token cishet man oomf). dio brando could be a beautiful butch woman and he would look exactly the same as he does in canon. avdol is a woman to me and polnareff is a man and they're like transhet to me. jotaro and kakyoin could be yuri if we believe. holly kujo is cishet but an ally (she once asked about straight pride 100% genuinely). giorno and his buddies are either girls in a boy way or boys in a girl way (nonbinary swag). josuke is transgender but i could not tell you who he's into and neither could he. the hands fetish guy (yoshikage kira?) is cishet and homophobic. speedwagon is cisgay but if he was born later he might've been agender. erina is bisexual. lisa lisa has some crazy shit going on don't even ask me that's her business. jolyne is the dyke to end all dykes. now i don't know much about sbr and onwards bur johnny and gyro could be lesbians. diego i know even less about but i think he has some gender swag going on. rohan kishibe is cishet and vaguely homophobic (he's one of those "people can do what they want just don't do it in front of me" kinds people) but he has a character arc and becomes less homophobic. funny valentine is sapphic but gets no bitches and never will get any bitches. i actually know nothing about hot pants i couldn't even tell you their pronouns just that they have hot pink hair. but hot pants has some evil radioactive gender. i know even less about jodio and dragona but i know they have some nonbinary siblings duo type deal going on. iggy is homophobic

How Did You Love (Polnareff x Chubby Reader)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the battle against Lord Dio, Polnareff might have met his match. Who is this beautiful yet sullen swordswoman?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi you guys, I'm back at it again. Polnareff has to be one of my favorite characters. So it was exciting to finally write something for him. He's sappy as always, but when isn't this Frenchman a bit of a ham. Anyways, I hope you enjoy.
---------------------------------------------------------
Peering around another corner, Polnareff was annoyed at their enemies love of lavish things. I mean what kind of evil Over Lord needs this large of a castle! It was a maze of unnecessary twist. Though he and his comrades were infiltrating it, so maybe it was a good idea. He was giving this guy to much credit.
Rubbing his forehead, he gave a silent thanks to Jotaro. If it wasn't for the Joestar heir, then he would still be under the thrall of Dio. Being a dark mage, it was little work for him to persuade people to do his bidding. Such methods of persuasion included mind manipulation. Shuddering at what small amount of memory he had from his time under Dio's control. Those were definitely unpleasant times.
Movement from the courtyard ahead shook him from the past. Searching the area, he was surprised at what he saw. A full figured woman was strolling around the courtyard with an umbrella shading her. She was a radiant beauty, that he had never had the pleasure of gazing upon. Though her eyes were sad and familiar.
He called out to her. “Pardon mademoiselle, I seemed to have lost my way. Could you direct me to the owner of this manor?” He put on, what he believed, was his most charming smile.
You barely acknowledged him. “I do not enjoy conversing with liars, Monsieur.”
A shocked expression crossed his face. Had he really been found out this quickly? “I truly am lost, would you not take pity on a poor traveler?”
The glare you cast his way forced a shiver down his spine. Though he wasn't sure if it was one of fear or want, perhaps a mixture. “I have no doubt that you are lost. The lie comes from you stumbling onto this keep. It is well hidden, by magical and non magical means.” Facing him, you closed your umbrella and placed the point on the ground in front of yourself.
An uneasy feeling forms in the pit of his stomach. Taking a step back, he rest his hand on the sword at his hip. “It seems that i’ve been found out. What will you do with me?”
“Take care of you.” With that you tore you tapered katana from it’s scabbard, from within the umbrella. Crouching a bit, you arched the weapon towards his chest.
He dodged away and brought his own sword up for a rebuttle. Only to find it blocked with the umbrella head. Leaping back he tried to take a moment to gather himself.
You didn't give him the chance though. Rushing to him, you struck at him once more. This time he was expecting it. He perried the sword and brought his other arm up for the blow that followed. The force you put behind the hit shocked him. Looking at you, you would never guess that such a delicate flower had such strength. That was only if you ignored your eyes. They held a ferocity that he had seen in no other being. But the lingering sadness called out to him.
Stepping into him, you brought your face to his own. “Perhaps you need more persuasion.” Your lips were a breath apart at the exclamation.
His breath caught in his throat at the intimacy of the action. His chest heaving in enamor and exertion in equal parts. The moment of distraction was enough for you to get a slice into his bicep. Hissing in pain, he countered your next strike. “Why are you here? What could a man like him provide for a woman like you?”
Striding back, you scowled at him accusingly. While he was the first person in a long time to give you a decent fight. You didn't owe him any explanation. Still there was a part of you that was intrigued to know why he was asking. “For information. My brother is missing and he’s the only one who’s had any answers.”
His shoulders sagged at your response. “He’s lying to you.”
The fire in your eyes blazed anew. Bashing your sword into him, your volume rose to a level that he wasn’t expecting. “How would you know!”
A thick knot of emotion form in his throat, causing his voice to crack. “I worked for Dio once too. He told me he could help find my sister’s murderer. It was only after the Joestars saved me, that I realized how cruel he was.” Tears welled in his eyes as he forced out the next part. “Turns out that the monster who killed sweet little Sherry, was working under the same man who promised to find him.”
Your face had become a blank mask. Doing everything you could to hold your resolve. To hope against hope that this man was lying. But your eyes revealed it all. Blinking back the tears that were threatening to fall and full of a sadness that Jean Pierre knew all to well. “What am I supposed to do? “
It tore at his heart how broken her tone had become. “Join me, join us. The Joestars are just and fair. They will help you with your journey.”
A sudden cry of anguish left you. Lashing out, you disarmed him, and he allowed it to happen. “It can’t be that simple. Changing sides isn’t going to magically solve everything.”
Gazing at you, he saw that a few tears escaped down your face. Even crying your were still one of the most beautiful things he had ever beheld. “Its a better option than not getting results under a madman.” Holding his hand in your direction, he waited with baited breath.
Your body slumped as you sheathed your sword. Heaving a heavy sigh, you placed your hand on his own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He made light conversation with you, knowing that you wouldn't be in the mood for much more. Though when the subject swapped to the Joestars you seemed to get interested.
“So these Joestars have been fueding with Dio for over a century?”
“Yes and from what Joseph told me, his grandfather even considered Dio a brother.”
A sullen smile graced your lips. “He told me a story of his brother from the past. Though I'm sure it was just another way to manipulate me.”
He wanted to embrace you. Reassure you that he would do everything he could to reunite your sibling and you. Instead he spotted the rendezvous camp, that his friends were waiting at. Calling out, he waved his arms. “I’ve brought an ally.”
When you both got close enough to easily talk to the group, he turned towards you. As an introduction started to leave his lips, he noticed an odd expression on your face.
Eyes wide and watering, you brought a hand up to your open mouth. “Kakyoin.” You said it in a whisper, but he knew in that moment how much meaning the name held.
“Kakyoin!” You sprinted into your brother’s open arms. Tears of joy streaming down both of your faces as you embraced.
Your cheerful smile was the most beautiful sight he had the privilege of beholding. In that instance, Polnareff vowed that he would spend his life keeping you as happy as you are right now.
Finished JJBA part 3
So Iggy's death was fucked up in Part 3 but it was actually very different compared to the OVA, where he instantly got merced by Vanilla Ice instead. It made me really sad. Yesterday I was talking to my coworker about her dog that just passed away so this one took me off guard. It's crazy how Iggy did jack shit for the time he was there until he found the mansion by accident, and then he became a diehard Jojo because the fucking bird got his paw. The "human" voice coming from Iggy's thoughts was incredibly funny but the timing of Iggy showing us his character and resolve shortly before his death made it devastating.
Avdol's second "death" was almost identical to his first death except a lot more definite. Poor bastard never got to fight before he was vored. Avdol is cool-headed like Jotaro but he's more analytical and heroic so I really liked him. I wish he got more battles.
Kakyoin, RIP :( you had the worst stand but you were the smartest character. I thought the show did a good job at showing us how far hed gone during the D'arby race episode just beforehand.
Joseph's "death"... it's incredible how quickly Kakyoin was written off as dead but then Jotaro fucking resurrects Joseph with Dio's blood. I think it fits Joseph, it doesn't matter what you throw at this guy, he is not staying down. I found it hilarious the first thing he tried to do was prank Jotaro and then he nearly got re-killed because of it. Joseph has constantly evaded the "fate" defined for the Joestar family members of dying young and he is even still alive after his grandson and great-grandaughter get merced in part 6. He literally never dies during the entire jojos timeline.
I like how messed up Polnareff was that Avdol died saving him twice and then Iggy went and did the exact same thing. It makes it more satisfying when he killes Vanilla Ice a moment later, saving the others from a terrifying foe, and then when he hops in at the last minute to save Jotaro from Dio later. But then, again, Jotaro puts himself at risk to save Polnareff. I see Polnareff as the "heart" of the group. But I already know his weird turtly fate the next time he encounters a timeskip user.
Dio is a very fun character. Interesting how part 3 didn't bother reminding us about him and sort of assumed we already knew who he was, but at the same time you get the perspective of all the modern characters who see him as some terrifying charismatic demon. The people sticking around since Part 1 have seen that Dio is ultimately a very evil british teenage twink on an ego trip. We see some of his ability to respect the strength of others when he resurrects the loyal Vanilla Ice, but ultimately he'll freak the fuck out when confronted with someone stronger than him. He rage gamer tilts against Jotaro and makes himself vulnerable in the process.
I think this would've been solved more quickly if Joseph taught Jotaro how to use Hamon.
so, why IS introduction hol horse such an asshole in comparison to his further characterization? : a theory
so, hello 👋 welcome to a theory i have and have had for a bit. i apologize for it being so long, but there's a LOT to be said!
as someone who prides themselves on overanalyzing hol horse, i have used all my brain power to come up with a theory that accurately describes just WHY intro hol feels so ... out of place.
hol horse is a man who, while a coward, is true to his heart & true to his core. he is a gentleman to the ladies, so much so that it becomes a cardinal trait within most of his appearances - hol horse is ALWAYS gonna love women & respect the ladies. this is in both SDC and CDDH (which we will be using as evidence despite its non-canon status as it is a prominent characterization & builds upon what is already in canon.)
but if we look back at the Emperor and Hanged Man arc, where hol horse is first introduced, we get a different picture. he
works directly with a man known to be a predator towards women & girls
says he talks up women so they'll die for him
yet, in comparison, aside from the obvious and easily joked about "i respect all women" rant in the hol & boingo arc, CDDH shows hol as someone who has a strong moral code when it comes to women.
in fact, there is an extremely important SDC hol horse flashback that reveals he saves multiple women who were victims after his attempt to kill DIO.
it's just... it's just odd. if he truly is a secretly gold hearted man who cares, why would he treat women like garbage and use them as bait to save his own life? why would be more threatening and full of himself if every further appearance just erases it & never mentions it again... 🤔
well, let's begin our theory with the fact that it seems DIO, all this time, never really trusted hol horse, calling him pathetic and wondering when "he'll do something on his own for him" even after he had "killed" avdol.
so DIO does what DIO does when he wants someone to work for them BUT doesn't trust them as easily. Hol's just in it for the money & the riches, right? he's a valuable ally, but not as committed to the cause as DIO feels he should be... but I digress...
let's note that in Hol Horse's first appearances in Emperor & Hanged Man, we never get a peek at his forehead - his hat masks it.
this is in comparison to getting to see it in the Justice & Hol and Boingo arcs.
so we're left with DIO not trusting a minion, a deliberate covering of the forehead, and a personality that contradicts further & more consistent characterization later on in SDC and — wait.
haven't we .... seen this before?
and wasn't hol horse supposed to be a crusader at some point, much like Polnareff and Kakyoin?
and haven't we learned that DIO implants the buds to keep those he doesn't trust in line? if hol horse did something that brought back DIO'S trust in him (say, killing a member of the Joestar Party), DIO would KNOW he was committed and loyal to him, proving himself...and thus, no more need to control him.
no more need for a fleshbud, even if he disappoints him afterward.
and no more need for hol horse to act more evil, more manipulative, and more forgiving of disgusting crimes against women he'd never forgive otherwise.
I think my favorite SDC Araki character writing moment is when he introduces us to Kakyoin who bodyjacks a random civilian, has her violently maim an unrelated bystander just to scare Jotaro, and then brutally injures that civilian from the inside out, seemingly either to scare Jotaro further or possibly just out of pure spite.
After Kakyoin's defeated we're introduced to flesh buds and we think oh, okay, Kakyoin is just a well meaning high school student like Jotaro, the flesh bud made him do evil deeds via mind control.
Only for Araki to bring in Polnareff a couple of chapters later and reveal to us that actually, no, flesh buds can't truly compel you to commit acts that you find morally reprehensible. Not even if the flesh bud has been inside your brain for significantly longer (Polnareff's 1 year versus Kakyoin's 3-4 months)
It turns out Kakyoin is just kinda fucked up!
#noriaki kakyoin#jojo sdc#stardust crusaders#writing stuff#you can argue that this character writing wasn't intentional on araki's part#because he didn't know what he wanted to do with Kakyoin when he first put him in the story#but considering Kakyoin is the first person in the story to kill an enemy stand user#and is fully willing to stone cold kill a baby to protect the rest of the team#honestly i think the character writing tracks even then
TL;DR: Gender euphoria. Live action Vanilla is gorgeous. Turns out the movie was real and I was living in it. I got to hug my husband. Woke up sweating and my heart racing
I had a dream (well 2 dreams in particular I wanna talk about)
So, the first one was that I was looking at myself shirtless in the mirror and I had subtle pecs and abs. I just kept looking at my body in the mirror and I was so happy to be my own personal type of masculine. I love gender euphoria dreams... The worst part is that I have to wake up x_x
The second one was, a couple friends of mine and I were on vacation and went to an electronics store with a bunch of TVs. We saw that there was going to be a live action Stardust Crusaders movie.
I remember that there was a scene in the commercial where Iggy jumped on Polnareff's head and Joseph said, "So that's where we'll put the lava lamp 😏" implying that Polnareff's hair is solid and they can set things on top of it.
Finally, it got to a scene where Dio was in the dark and all we could see was one orange glowing eye. He said something like, "You are the only one who can defeat my enemies..."
And there he was. Live action Vanilla. He was so gorgeous that I felt my heart race and my stomach filled with butterflies. He looked similar to my sim version of him, but as if he was a real person. Then it cut to me and my friends in the theater watching the movie.
I couldn't pay attention to the dialogue because I was so transfixed on live action Vanilla 😭 I started thinking, "I wish I was there with him so bad." Then it cut to me actually in Dio's room with him and Vanilla.
Dio said, "Stop your daydreaming. There's evil to defeat!" Then I said, "I'm not daydreaming, I'm night sleeping." And I heard a laugh track. After a while, Vanilla and I were walking down the hall and I said, "Is it really you, Vans?"
He looked down at me and said, "As long as this is the real you." And he wrapped his arms around me. I hugged him tightly and didn't want to let him go. Every time I have a dream about him, I hug him as much as I can 🥺💙💜
After that, I woke up sweaty, my heart racing, and I was very thirsty 😭
so I had a silly idea for the United Twins AU
what if Pucci ended up being the one to go check out Giorno :)
so it's been years right? Pucci and Jotaro are still close friends, Domenico and Perla are out doing Whatever They're Doing, maybe working for the Foundation, and things all seem fine
Finding out Dio has a kid....... not great, all things considered. Not the end of the world, after all for all they know the kid could be a completely normal, Not Evil person, but it would be best to check. After all, there is also the possibility the kid has a Stand and given Dio's....... it's likely to be powerful one
So Pucci and Whitesnake get sent over to check it out and worst case scenario take the kid's Stand
now, Pucci has quite the collection of Discs at this point. Any of the truly dangerous ones he gives to the Foundation to keep, but the rest? He has obtained a mass amount of CD cases organized by type and function, and even has a couple cases specifically organized with the intention of Foundation Work
So Pucci comes to Italy prepared for shit to go sideways, and shit does. Black Sabbath is easy to deal with, and he does trust Giorno has good intentions........ but to be fair, this is still a 15 year old seemingly on his own and ready to throw his lot in with some of the most dangerous people there are
also it's an excuse to poke around for Polnareff, and he's definitely not turning that possibility down
however....... well, Pucci's never been very good fighting on the frontlines. He knows this. That's his brother's thing.
So he ends up watching from the metaphorical shadows. With the help of a Stand or two he manages to tail the Bucci Gang completely out of sight
specifically, he's there when Bucciarati and Trish get attacked by Diavlo :)
so he intervenes and everyone's high key freaking out about who the hell this guy is, Giorno's questioning whether or not he should say anything, Pucci's slowly getting a headache and Diavlo's more or less in a coma on the floor because he got his whole soul and brain yoinked
fun times
(also completely random but I think Whitesnake should be allowed to take Mista's gun. As a treat. Also I think a Stand shooting someone is just hilarious in general and I don't want to miss out on the opportunity)
#listen#pucci's power is so broken in almost any one on one fight ESPECIALLY when the opponent doesn't know his ability#I just think it's funny and he should be allowed to do some trolling#united twins#golden wind#golden wind spoilers#jjba part 5#jjba pucci#enrico pucci#whitesnake#jjba giorno#giorno giovanna#jjba polnareff#jean pierre polnareff#jjba bucciarati#bruno bucciarati#bruno buccellati#jjba trish#trish una#jjba diavolo#diavlo#bucci gang#jjba mista#guido mista
