I was rereading a March 2023 interview where Yana talks about the process of creating for Twisted Wonderland! I believe I previously mentioned how I appreciated the eclectic yet pragmatic design sense of the outfits in TWST; this time, what caught my attention was how Yana came up with characters from what are minor henchmen and inanimate objects associated with notable villains.

She says that it was a challenge to come up with characters based on the card soldiers and the poisoned apple. (It’s very different than basing a character on the Queen of Hearts and the Evil Queen, who are both very iconic women with defined personalities and powers.) Yana put herself in the shoes of those original Disney counterparts and then used those feelings as a basis to work with. It’s really cool to think about how she was able to pull four different perspectives for the card soldiers. There’s Cater the spectator, Trey the reluctant bystander that eventually comes around, Deuce the rebel, and Ace the other rebel instigator.

I’m especially interested in how Yana conceived of a concept for Epel, who is one of the few in the main cast who is twisted from an object rather than a character. She describes the poison apple as being innocent; it was just a normal apple that had no intention of becoming poisonous or being used in the Evil Queen’s nefarious scheme—yet it was forced to become a poisonous apple against its will because this is the form which will be the most advantageous to the Queen. And indeed, that’s pretty much the nature of Vil and Epel’s relationship. Book 5 is about Vil shaping Epel through stringent training (which Epel actively resists) into someone who can weaponize cuteness to take down Neige. The idea made it all the way to the final product—it’s great to see the payoff of the creative process 😌

So there was some interest in my last Lorcana/Twisted Wonderland post, so I thought I'd add some of the other cards I find amusing in relation to Twist.

First up is Jafar:

One of the best combos you can get off is to have Jafar sing a Whole New World. It nets you 7 of the 20 Lore you need to win in one action. I've had a story on the back burner for a while, where Vil puts on a production of essentially their twisted version of Aladdin, that would have ended up with Jamil being the one to sing this song. (Cater would play the Genie, because he's the only one who could possibly come close given his clones)

Next up is Heartslabyul with the Queen of Hearts and the Card Soldiers, but as a major Cater fan I am sad the Card Soldier has *4 Hearts*

Also the idea of Chen’ya showing up just to make Riddle mad amuses me.

More Evil Queen/Vil

I will admit the fact that Vil dislikes "Wishing on Stars" and divination etc has always amused me given he is a stand in for the Evil Queen who was definitely into Astrology. (Also Cater’s favorite subject)

I liked this one for Idia, ,I can see him going on about someone's weakness in gaming terms.

This took longer than it should. Sitting on the floor tonight for a change with my comfort show. I only work on this for a couple of hours a day, couldn’t keep sitting hunched over it the whole day. I couldn’t function for a whole day when I did that. So now I’m taking it easier.

There were so many colours that keep changing on the frame but at last its all complete and i can finally start with the charachters.

you live on the edge of your seat, but it is not a good thing. youre constantly looking over your shoulder, unsure of what will hurt you next. you have been hurt so much, but you refuse to adapt to your pain. instead, you avoid what you cannot control. you are so afraid of making a mistake, of being brought closer to your doom. but, despite this, you cannot articulate what you fear. you are just afraid. only afraid. and you will be afraid until you are brought to what you fear.

moriarty / ruined by fury

you are angry. you are angry and everyone knows it. the fire within you will not die, cannot die. for if it dies, you wont have a reason to burn. your rage simmers close to your chest, it boils near something you wont touch. you are angry because it is easier than anything else. you are angry because you choose it over pain. you are ruined because you cannot feel anything but your own ire.

i think diu might be my fav jojo part overall bc of the grave contrast that the story and the visual have. from the surface diu is very colourful and upbeat. the colours of morioh alone have this otherworldly feel. but then the story is one of the darkest jojo has ever had. involving murder, child murder, mutational, abuse etc etc.

HIM had to change the formula adding more "evil" into the mixture but did it split between both King and Jack or is it more in one rather than the other? Hopefully the cards are understanding each other better now and will be able to get along like siblings do!

it is crazy how “if this childrens show doesn’t kill their villain at the end it’s irredeemable media” became such a popular opinion here. like people were calling steven universe fascist apologia. and to be clear I don’t even think that would be the case for non childrens media, either. perhaps holding every single story up to the same standard of “does it follow the acceptable narrative path or is it evil propaganda” isn’t the most anti-fascist thing, either. maybe.

11th chacter Evil Queen (Snow White) another one of my favourite characters. If you really think about her life you could relate to it. Who hasn’t wanted to discipline some rowdy teenagers 😂😂

Her character took 2 days to finish although it wasn’t that big but I started late and wanted a complete video of her character on timelapse.

This is the completed canvas. I’m hoping I haven’t forgotten a lonesome diamond somewhere.

I doubt I would but another one this size, maybe the next is a coaster size. Or i might cave in and buy the big stitch one 😂😂♥️ he’s also my favourite character.
