Well yes and no...? Remember that; the 'reason' they did have to mistrust him? Was the fact they were committing another act of treason going there to retrieve the banished by Odin Thor, in the first place: during a war that was still running because Thor and they did commit the first 4-6 counts of treason: for which even they admit in previous scenes; was at the very least punishable by death. And they did this, while Loki was interim King, as set in place by Frigga --who reminder was queen, conscious, alive and very much capable of making sure the roles were reversed as far as caring for Odin in that state went, too. And they knew this.
Not saying they're evil no, but they're pretty arrogant, lacking in conscience, lacking in self awareness and self ownership; or actual loyalty to more than one of the two princes in that equation.
Evil no, shitty people, shitty friends; and a bunch of arrogant dismissive pricks given they did know these things both before and after, treated him in that way anyway: and still pretended like he was in the wrong for doing exactly what he should have done under those circumstances as Thor and they themselves made them? And still carrying on in that flavor even in TDW, with their own personal betrayals and that longer list of official treason on the table trying to bring the one who re-started that war back to the table against both kings at that point still not acknowledged? Absolutely.
Not that Frigga is any better abstaining from putting in any of that input Thor's way, or owning her part even two years later either. It isn't very hard to see where they get that crappy take; or how Thor after 1000-1500 years thought genocide was still an answer from ages ten and up; when Odin's king and Frigga's queen, setting those lies and examples in place and never correcting them.
Not an excuse, either way. They're grown ass characters, who are over a thousand years old; if they're Asgardian. Funny ha-ha presented or not, if they were good people, that flavor of conscience would have been there... and maybe an apology or three. But instead, he's their scapegoat still; and they double down it with that 'suspicion' in TDW to continue the issue on rather than any of that.
Not evil on the blackest terms no; but that is a shade of it when that's also a friend and someone who fought next to them for those years too, and probably saved their asses as often as it went the other way: so 100% evil no. But definitely a darker shade of it than a simple grey or beige, making those choices as who they are with the background they have with Loki in particular. Especially counting back two to three years from 2013 when TDW took place.

A/N: Request from anon. Fluffy skinny dipping with Loki. Tell me something better than that, I’ll wait. Enjoy, everyone!
Words: 2568 Warnings: skinny dipping, implied smut, fluff
The air in Asgard smelled different. Fresher. Richer. You took a deep breath, inhaling not only oxygen but also that foreign Asgardian vibe. Summer felt a hundred times more intense around here. The heat was on the verge of unbearable, the glistening water right outside the palace inviting you for a swim to cool down. The whole planet felt like an Instagram filter—like someone had turned up the contrast, the saturation and the brightness all at the same time.
“How do you cope in this heat?” you complained, fanning air to your face with your right hand. You were sat in the lower parts of the palace with Thor’s friends Volstagg, Hogun and Fandral and of course, Lady Sif.
Odin had commanded you remained under supervision at all times. You didn’t quite understand what the fuss was about—it wasn’t like a mere Midgardian could wreak havoc among this realm but then again, he was probably just traumatised from the time Thor brought an Aether-infected Jane to Asgard a few years back.
But the company wasn’t so bad, especially upon learning new things about Asgardian culture. One person was missing though. You’d hardly seen Loki since your arrival even though it had been him to promise to keep you safe.
Boom—it had been like a heartbeat, like an explosion and just like that, you had fallen in love with the God of Mischief. It had started with a crush. A purely physical attraction that made you see beyond the things he had done on Earth all those years ago. Then you had gotten to know him and witnessed his wit and sarcasm day in and out. Soon, you began to see past the cheekiness and mischief until you had discovered a vulnerable god who would die for the ones he loved, an intelligent and kind man who might not have been a superhero and leaned toward a little selfishness every now and then but a good man nonetheless.
Loki had never been evil and you were now determined to convince everyone else of that mind-set as well. Especially now that you had been brought to Asgard for your own safety.
“It’s not so bad down here. I feel sorry for Idunn and her workers. The apple orchard is a sauna at this time of the day but the work won’t do itself.”
“First of all… you have saunas on Asgard? And second of all, if this is a realm of magic, why is there any labour at all?”
Volstagg’s cheeks reddened as he fought to explain it to you. “Well, let’s just say Idunn’s apples are special. They require skilled hands to handle them.”
“Right…” With a court nod, you emptied the rest of your drink and carefully put it back on the table—like hell you would smash it to the ground and scream “Another” like Thor and his friends did.
“Where’s Loki, actually?” you asked, attempting to sound non-chalant.
“Who knows? Causing some mischief somewhere probably. I for my part am glad I don’t have to see his face.”
“He’s been nothing but kind to me so far, Volstagg.”
“Hmm…” Hogun began, “He’s like a flesh-eating plant. He lures you in and then traps you in his claws. Be careful. We have known Loki for a lot longer than you.”
“Maybe you guys should stop giving him reasons to stab you in the back. Think about that.” Checkmate. That shut them up for a good minute.
You sighed. Well, in the end, you’d likely have a lot more work to do for them to accept the cheeky God of Mischief for who he was and why he behaved the way he did, it seemed.
“If you say so… I’m gonna go find him.”
“You can’t wander through the palace alone.”
You chuckled. “Watch me. I know where Loki’s chambers are. And I promise to scream if I’m getting murdered.”
“You shouldn’t joke about things like that,” Hogun insisted.
“I’m trapped on a different planet surrounded by gods. If I don’t joke about it, I’m gonna lose my mind.”
“I am still going to escort you.”
You rolled your eyes. Always obey Odin. “Fine.” Hogun wasn’t very talkative, at least.
Tumblr media
It was a lot cooler in the palace—but then again, sacrificing a wonderful day that you could spend swimming and tanning and exploring to hide within some palace walls wasn’t all that appealing.
“Loki? Are you there?” Hogun was waiting around the corner with his hands clasped behind his back when you knocked.
Silence. You cleared your throat. “Loki, your hearing is a thousand times better than mine, I know you can hear me.”
A pleasant shiver ran down your spine when you heard a dark chuckle behind the door. A sliver of magic tore through the heavy wood of his door and it swung open, revealing him sitting in the shade on his bed with a book on his lap.
You blinked. He was dressed so casually. Bare feet, a green and soft-looking shirt with sleeves ending right below his elbows and wide black trousers reminding you of a comfy pyjama. Summing up, he looked hot.
“What are you doing here?” He was practically purring when he spoke your name, pulling a pleasant shiver from you. Something told you that Loki knew you were absolutely infatuated with him and boy, was he having fun with it. You sighed, letting it go for now. It was too hot to complain.
“I want to go swimming.”
“You want to go swimming?” Loki frowned at his book as if you’d suggested going rollerblading on the Bifrost bridge. Although… that actually sounded like a fun idea as well.
“Yes, Loki. It’s summer, it’s hot and I am melting. You’re a Frost Giant, how on Earth do you cope?”
“By staying inside where it’s cool, reading and most importantly, keeping my mouth shut.”
You grunted, closing the door behind you. “I’m gonna pretend like I was unable to take the hint to leave you alone. What are you reading?”
This time, it was Loki who sighed.
“Why don’t you ask Thor and his foolish friends? Are they giving you trouble?” he asked instead of responding to your question.
“No. Just… Because I want to spend time with you. And because they’re boring, obeying every single word the oh-so-allmighty-Odin says.” You threw your hands to demonstrate how ridiculous you found the whole situation.
Finally, Loki looked up from his book, a sly smirk tugging at his lips. “What makes you think that I won’t?”
“Please. You are the God of Mischief. And rules are made to be broken, right? You remember that pretty lagoon west of the Bifrost Bridge that you told me about? The one with the cave? I want to go there. Please, Loki. Pack your book and let’s go. If I’m on a different planet, at least I want to explore it a little.”
Loki considered you for a moment, almost as if he was trying to figure out whether you were just mocking him. Then, finally, he shut his book and elegantly stood from the bed. “Very well. Let’s go.”
His smile was genuine—it had to be. His book vanished into thin air the very moment his door swung open again.
“Quick. Before Hogun realises we are not really headed to the kitchens for a cool drink.”
Loki escorted you through one of the servants’ exits to avoid the guards and more importantly, Thor and his friends. The earthy path was steep as you followed him down further and further away from the palace until you reached the shore and the ground to your feet turned into warm sand.
A small boat was swaying in the water, tied to a rock in the sand with a thick rope. Loki, however, did not make a move toward it. Instead, he offered you his hand. Intrigued, you took it. Next thing you know, he transformed into an eagle, his talons gripping your hand tightly.
You cheered when you took off and he flew across the water towards the lagoon, your naked toes grazing the cool ocean water in the process. The landing, a few minutes later, was smooth and then, just like that, Loki’s eagle aspect disappeared again.
“That was incredible! Can you turn me into an eagle as well?”
“Potentially. It takes years to master transfiguration like this. Your body would have to adjust to the new form and you would have to learn how to fly. If I transformed you now, you would quite possibly drown.”
“Right.” You turned around, taking in your new surroundings. The lagoon was stunning. It looked like the inside of a volcano, a hollowed-out rock with a pond with the clearest sea water you had ever seen in the middle. Vines, trees, and flowers all grew around it, spreading a lovely scent, and the small cave at the opposite end looked like the perfect spot for camping. The waterfall was by far the best part of it all though. It was gushing and loud, drowning out all noise from the outside and reverberating within the lagoon.
“This is beautiful. How come no one ever comes here?”
“Well… Asgardians are not too keen on swimming. Most of them never even learn it unless they’re training to fight battles. It is considered impure and in some cases, disrespectful to swim in open waters.”
Loki waved his hand, letting a dark green picnic blanket appear in the sand that mixed with green grass where you stood. Along with it, he conjured up a golden plate full of grapes, apple slices, strawberries and other fruit you didn’t recognise. He sat down on it with his book in hand.
It was then you realised you didn’t actually have any swimwear.
“What? Why is that?”
“Ah, well, you see, according to our lore, the giant Ymir was slain so the worlds could be built. His brains became the clouds, his bones became the mountains and his blood became the oceans.”
“Are you trying to tell me I’m about to swim in someone’s blood?”
Loki chuckled. “Something like that.”
You suppressed a grin. Should you? It was only the two of you here after all. And what sent a clearer signal for “I like you, I’m attracted to you and I want to have sex with you” than skinny dipping? You shrugged your shoulders. You were on a different planet. Things couldn’t exactly get any crazier from here.
You pulled off your shirt and then peeled yourself out of your shorts. Your bra came off first after that. With your back turned to Loki, you could still practically feel his blue eyes boring into you. By the time you stepped out of your knickers and revealed your arse to him, he sucked in air so loudly you could even hear it over the waterfall.
Unceremoniously and gathering all of your swimming training from your school days, you dived head-first into the clear water as gracefully as you could muster. The water was divine. It was cool and salty enough for you to float without too much effort and the little fish you saw swimming past you didn’t even seem to be scared of you. You’d have to ask Loki for some fish food for them.
“I could have conjured you some swimwear, you know.” His blue eyes were glued to you. You grinned, swimming in his direction. The clear water did very little to conceal you and it was even clearer that the God of Mischief was having a hard time not to look down.
“And where would have been the fun in that? What are you doing, come in! It’s lovely! I dare you,” you added. “Oh no, whatever will all those fancy royals at the palace say if they find out one of their princes is skinny dipping with a peasant?” Dramatically, you brought the back of your hand to your forehead and then disappeared underwater for a moment.
When you emerged, Loki was standing and taking off his clothes. Yes.
“Last time I caused an uproar, I was in the middle of a feeble attempt at taking over Midgard. They’ll be relieved to hear I have resorted to less scandalous activities.”
Seeing Loki shirtless was quite possibly the highlight of your entire day. But he didn’t give you much time to drool over his muscly pale chest and those strong arms. He wasn’t wearing any underwear. When those comfy trousers came off, he was naked and damn, was he glorious even in a flaccid state. You didn’t even bother pretending not to stare.
Loki smirked and then, much more gracefully than you, dived into the pond. He looked downright gorgeous with wet hair when he emerged only a few inches away from you, so much so that you almost forgot to keep yourself afloat.
“Cat got your tongue? You aren’t going to back out now, are you?”
“Wouldn’t dream of it, Loki.” For a split second, playing Marco Polo with him crossed your mind but now that you had him naked in the clear water, you could think of more… adult activities.
“Can I ask you something?” You just needed some confirmation first. He’d promised to keep you safe but did that mean he reciprocated your feelings? Not necessarily, right?
Loki raised his eyebrows at you—in a gentle, teasing manner this time.
“Why did you agree to come here with me? I mean… the others… they’d never let me be alone with you. If they knew, they’d drag me out by the hair. Or you, whoever they manage to grab first. I guess… after everything that happened between you and the entire planet Earth, I didn’t think you’d want anything to do with a human beyond a genuine promise to make up for the past.”
Loki’s face fell.
“What? Did I say something wrong?”
He shook his head. “You did not. Let’s just say I forgot for a moment that you are mortal.”
Oh. “Is that bad?”
“I will have outlived you in a matter of decades. So yes. That is bad, pet.” Pet. You sincerely hoped he wasn’t able to hear the moan that escaped your lips. “I am not a villain. And it took a lot of convincing to make me realise that. So why would I not? I have no reason to meet you with hostility if you don’t either.”
You smiled at him. “That’s what I told them today, you know? That you wouldn’t have betrayed them if they hadn’t given you a reason to do so. And… That just means we’ve gotta make use of the time that we have even more, no?”
With that, you took the leap. You leaned forward, clung to him like a monkey and wrapped your arms around his neck. Your naked skin against his felt heavenly, even more so underwater. You kissed him as if your life depended on it, teeth clashing, tongues battling… your entire being lost itself in Loki, how good he tasted and how skilled of a kisser he was.
When you broke apart, you were both out of breath and a little surprised by what had just happened. Your eyes fell on his swollen lips.
“Admit it,” you whispered.
“What?”
“Admit it. You like me.”
Loki chuckled. “I wouldn’t put up with you if I didn’t, pet.”

CHARACTER ASK GAME!!!
Emma: 2, 4, 14, 24
Loki: 5, 15, 16, 25
Tony: 7, 11, 19, 22
Goodness! So many asks! YAY!
Emma Frost:
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
She's highly intelligent and incredibly snarky. She knows who she is, she knows what she wants, and at least by now (I hope), she's not going to let another person treat her like a consolation prize/second choice.
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
Well, she's been in a movie by a fantastic actress to play her, but the writers were shit and decided that they were just going to treat her like eye candy fluff instead of the beautiful badass that she is. I'd like to see her in a movie again, but I'm not sure how much I trust the MCU (Disney) with her portrayal - and she wouldn't get to interact with some of my favorite characters for her to interact with because the MCU killed those characters off or sent them back in time to 'dance' with the handsy, red-flag giving person who brought Hydra into S.H.I.E.L.D. Emma would probably be better utilized in a book where the powers of her snark and sass and mind aren't hinging on some screenplay writer's/director's shitty sexist agenda.
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
Expensive Parisian Runway in the Streets, Comfy Borrowing Her Boyfriend's T-shirts in the Sheets.
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
Lagertha from Vikings. Maybe a little bit Bedelia du Maurier from Hannibal but without Bedelia's petty jealousy in Season 3. Maybe a blending of Montespan, Palatine, and Henriette from Versailles.
Loki:
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
Nature Boy by Nat King Cole
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Tony Stark. Runners up: Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers, Emma Frost, Justin Hammer. Following those four: Bruce Banner, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Fandral.
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
Thor and the Grandmaster.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Okay my first-first impression of Loki as a Marvel character was that he looked fucking stupid and how could they disrespect my beloved deity that way. (My ex showed me the 80s comics he had, and I had this view of Loki from the first shot - nevermind that I don't mind the look now with Richard E. Grant because it served a fun purpose, a Glorious Purpose, as it were. But I mean, my ex also showed me Logan in those same/year comics, and I thought he looked stupid af, too.) Now I think they do better to portray a good look for Loki as well as his not-evil morally gray sass, but also I love him in the series as well because it shows a versatility to the character as is meant to be in a trickster and not just some one-mood (brooding/dark) that so much of his fans in fandom seem to cling to.
Tony Stark:
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
When fandom pays attention to his PTSD and lets other characters actually notice his PTSD and try to help him rather than mock or try to humiliate/denigrate him for it. When fandom highlights Tony's big loving heart and his love languages with other characters.
11. Would you date this character?
Without hesitation.
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
Pepper Potts. I love them as friends, I do not love them as a romantic relationship because she's too dismissive of his PTSD and all the good he's trying to do. I'm also not partial to his relationships with Janet Van Dyne and Patsy (Trish) Walker (comics).
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
Like: Kind of a repeat of the #7 question above, but also I love when writers perfectly capture Tony's sass and sarcasm. I love the extent that writers (including myself) will go to in order to come up with Tony's nicknames for other characters.
Don't Like: When writers imagine Tony as utterly selfish and spoiled and deliberately cruel. When they make his failures that he learns from and gets back up and does better the next time as some sort of unforgivable crime.
Thanks for all the asks! Don't be afraid, y'all! Give me more asks and other characters and fandoms if you like! These are a blast!

Warnings: None. (Will however be a 18+ reader book)
Copyright: I do not own any Marvel characters or locations. However, I do own a few OCs like Elizabeth, Katherine, Stacy, and Jessie. I do not condone any copying of this.
SOULMATE WORLD RULES BECAUSE PEOPLE SAID MY STORY TO COMPLEX:
1. Yes, you could date someone that isn't your soulmate. But it would be for 'practice' purposes. You can hold hands, hug, kiss, even give each other orgasms if you really wanted to, even have sex- but with possible consequences.
2. Having a baby with someone you're not soulmated to will result in the child being either sick or growing up to be evil (got the idea from the wizarding world where if a parent is under a love potion or spell, then the child grows up with zero emotions- aka Tom Riddle)
3. Yes, normal kids under soulmate bonds can still be sick or evil, it's just a guarantee if the baby isn't under soulmate parents it will be sick or evil.
4. You can have sex outside of the marriage/bonding ceremony, but the bond is stronger is you wait to have sex after the ceremony
5. By taking a trait from your soulmate doesn't mean your soulmate loses that trait. It just becomes a part of you. It also doesn't mean that since you're bonded to all of these superheroes you get their powers. For example, if you had been bonded to Peter Parker, you might suddenly find yourself being a little happier since that kid runs on enthusiasm.
6. You do not wait to have all of your soulmates before you get married. Obviously, Tony and Stephen didn't wait, nor did Steve, Bucky, and Sam wait for you before they bonded.
7. Your soulmate can only feel pain that is directly applied to their soulmate line
8. Not everyone shares the same soulmates. For example, Wanda is soulmated to Vision. Elizabeth is soulmated to Vision. Vision is soulmated to Wanda and Elizabeth. But Elizabeth and Wanda are not soulmated to each other. Likewise, Wanda and Vision are not soulmated to Pietro or Hogun, only Elizabeth is. However, because of their shared soulmate bonds, Wanda and Vision will gain some sort of trait from Hogun, Pietro, Jessie, Katherine, Sif, Fandral and Volstagg, because Pietro is bonded to Jessie and Katherine while Hogun is also bonded to Sif. And then Sif is bonded to Fandral and Volstagg as well. Yeah this rule is a bit confusing, I agree. I just like making life difficult on myself.
9. No one gets their lines until they are six months of age.
10. Left arm is for your soulmates. Right arm is your own line.
11. The person has to say their own name in proximity of you in order for you to know who your soulmate is. Their name will become a part of their line.
12. Most soulmates have at least one male, female couple even if there are multiple of the same gender in a bond so that mates can have at least two kids. It is very rare to find a pure lesbian/gay couple.
13. Most people have solid soulmate lines. Having multiple lines means that you have a lot of problems and worries in your life- aka why all superheroes have several colours. So there remains the mystery- why does Elizabeth have so many colours? And I guess Billie Eilish for that matter.
14. No- Contraceptives do not exist in this world. After all, there is no reason for you and your soulmates not to have children.
15. Adoption is rare as for some reason, if the child is not of your soulmate, or related to one of your soulmates, you don't have unconditional love for him/her. This is why the rules are so strict. Children should only stay with their soulmate parents. However, family can take care of you as well (like Aunt May and Peter Parker)
16. You could technically have sex with a soulmate of a soulmate. (Coulson and Fury could technically have sex if they wanted because Maria is a shared soulmate). Though it doesn't happen often, nothing bad will happen of it (like cursed children).
These are all of the ones that I can think about for now. Maybe updated in the future so you can come back and read this one if you need reminders of the rules. Let me know if there's still an unanswered question.

As someone who played sl from launch to end: as a concept it wasn’t bad, it was VERY poorly executed. Blizz threw new characters at us and told us to care about them, But why? Why should i care about this bear who’s world was destroyed? When they could have put Fandral at their place? They should have made every npc someone who the fans already knew (i would have cared about Bastion if the character leading us was Taretha who struggles to let go) and not retcon everything from Warcraft 3 to Legion in order to make the Jailer ”make se se” (cool raid fight but made absolutely 0 sense) the final nail in the coffin was the zererh mortis (that didn’t make sense even as a concept) apprently all beigns are just weirdly shaped robots that get thrown into realms and develop personality? And Since Elune is related to the eternal ones, she is also some sort of robot! Just… what was that?
I agree, Shadowlands AS a concept is absolutely interesting and if they had competent writers, could have been really neat. You're better than me though LOL I could not finish it.
All of the horrifically bad plot writing aside -- My biggest beef was the treatment of primarily the female leads and how blizz likes to depict 'female rage' and 'female power' as literally just evil and insane.
Sylvanas had no actual logical reason to do anything she did. To take one of Arthas' primary victims and then literally YEARS LATER play her out to "become him" is so gross and erases her entire character arc to that point. It was just another 'we gave her a position of power so GUESS SHE'S EVIL NOW' crap move from blizz. And how they handled that in the end was even more disgusting. Oh its okay now guys she's nice again, was used by another "arthas" (even tho she denies it!!!) and hates her "old self" and is going to go on a journy of 'self loathing and repentance'. The fact that they really had her pick up a mournblade (WITH ARTHAS IN IT!!!) and take away Anduin's free will was just. Nauseating.
They didn't treat Tyrande much better either. She got a power up, uh oh, guess she's crazy now. ????? Ya'll massacred her people but you want us to believe that its just 'women irrational' to be upset by that?????????? Sure, blizz.
Calia's whole existence is just ??????????? ?????????????????????????????????????? Insult to injury to take out Sylvanas and half replace her with Arthas' SISTER, but then act like she can totally relate to the forsaken when their entire existence has been about suffering horrifically, being mind controlled, being DAMNED, and having everyone hate them for something out of their control, and Calia doesnt have a single one of those issues ....... ??????????
Jaina gets her kick ass harbinger song and then ...... nothing. Just more of the usual for Jaina.
And finally my last beef, the "foreshadowing" of Anduin and Arthas parallels WHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY. These two characters are NOTHING alike they don't share any kind of similar anything, not back stories, not personalities, NOTHING. They were both blonde. Both blonde royalty. ???? JUST ?????

@stxrlxrds continued from here:
“Well,” Peter answered, leaning in just a little closer once again, “lucky for you, I haven’t been around humans in a long-ass time. Therefore, I have no opinion on you aside from a first impression.” Another lie, but what was one more lie when he’d lied once already? Especially when his lies seemed to be performing successfully? He chuckled softly, angling his head so that his curls shifted and bounced, giving the appearance of innocence, making his actions seem even more enticing. Or so he hoped. Star-Lord charm. Never failed. “Maybe I like a little evil. At the right time. At the right place. Know what I mean? If you don’t, I could show you.”
Loki recognised in Peter so many of the little tricks Fandral had employed over the years. The crafted smile, the toss of hair, the coy undressing with the eyes. Knowing they were there did not stop them from having an effect. While a god was in the mood, anyway.
He offered an easy smile in turn.
"I have an idea where you're going with this. To which I say: why not? If you have somewhere in mind, lead on. One small caveat. If you intend to draw me into a trap, you will find out just how evil I can be."

The complete Warcraft story of the War Of The Shifting Sands⏳| A thread🧵
Time Period: Roughly 975 Years before the First War between Orcs and Humans.
Tumblr media
1) The Awakening
For centuries, the insectoid qiraji had lain dormant within the ancient titanic fortress of Ahn'Qiraj, hidden deep in the desert of Silithus. Once, they had waged war against the Troll Empire, but in the ages since, they had retreated into their underground lairs, their existence fading from the memories of Azeroth's races. Only the mantid of distant Pandaria remained active above the sands.
Ahn'Qiraj, originally built to imprison the Old God C'Thun, had become the sanctuary of the qiraji. The lifeless sandstone halls, surrounded by the vast and inhospitable desert, ensured that the insectoid race remained undisturbed for generations. Even the mighty Kaldorei Empire under Queen Azshara, who had once known of the fortress, had long since lost track of its location.
Change stirred in the sands when Fandral Staghelm, Archdruid of the Kaldorei, sought to bring life to the barren wastes of Silithus. He dispatched his son, Valstann, and a group of druids to find water sources that could transform the desert into a lush forest. As they journeyed through the dunes, they stumbled upon the ancient fortress of Ahn'Qiraj.
Despite the warnings of some druids who sensed the darkness within, Valstann ventured into the cold, shadowy halls. His presence inadvertently awakened the slumbering qiraji, and deep beneath the fortress, the Old God C'Thun took notice of its stirring servants.
2) The Insectoid Swarm
As in ages past, C'Thun's influence drove the qiraji into a frenzied state. The higher castes began to organize their minions, the silithid, who came in diverse forms but shared an unwavering loyalty to their qiraji masters. Stone constructs, like the formidable Anubisath, also bolstered the qiraji ranks.
Valstann and his druids, horrified by what they had discovered, fled from Ahn'Qiraj. They established a small outpost in the desert to keep watch over the insectoid threat. To their dismay, they witnessed the fortress teeming with increasingly greater numbers of qiraji, the swarm preparing for an impending assault upon the world.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Valstann sent for reinforcements. As they awaited aid, the druids could only observe the qiraji's buildup within Ahn'Qiraj. The desert sands began to stir with the movements of innumerable insectoid soldiers, the first signs of the coming storm.
The ancient evil that had once been forgotten was now awakening, and the peoples of Azeroth were unprepared for the chaos that would soon be unleashed. The War of the Shifting Sands loomed on the horizon, and the fate of the world hung in the balance.
3) The Qiraji Onslaught
Without warning, an innumerable army of qiraji and silithid burst forth from the ancient fortress of Ahn'Qiraj and the tunnels beneath it. The qiraji overlords, driven by the will of their Old God master, C'Thun, commanded their silithid minions to swarm across the desert of Silithus and spread to the neighboring regions.
The insectoid tide swept over every dune and canyon, engulfing the land in a chitinous wave. The once-desolate sands of Silithus now teemed with the relentless advance of the qiraji forces, their numbers seemingly without end.
4) The Night Elves Rally
In response to this sudden invasion, Fandral Staghelm, leader of the Kaldorei druids, hastily assembled a sizable army. Druids, Sentinels, priestesses of Elune, and keepers of the grove joined forces under Staghelm's command, united in their determination to push back the insectoid threat.
The night elf host marched south to meet the qiraji head-on, clashing with their vicious foes in the heart of Silithus. The Kaldorei fought with courage and skill, their powerful magic and weaponry cutting through the qiraji ranks.
5) The Tide of Battle
Despite the might of the night elves, the sheer numbers of the qiraji and silithid proved to be a formidable challenge. The insectoids had already broken out of Silithus and threatened to spread across the entire southern part of the continent.
The Kaldorei realized that containment was their only hope. They fought desperately to keep the qiraji confined to the south, engaging in a series of back-and-forth battles that would come to define the war.
At times, the night elves would gain the upper hand, driving the insectoids back towards the dunes of Silithus. However, the qiraji would regroup and launch counterattacks with renewed strength and numbers, regaining lost ground and pushing the Kaldorei back.
This ebb and flow of battle continued for months, with heavy casualties on both sides. The land became a grim testament to the ferocity of the conflict, littered with the bodies of fallen night elves and insectoids.
The War of the Shifting Sands had begun, and its outcome would determine the fate of Kalimdor. The Kaldorei stood as the last line of defense against the relentless swarm, fighting not just for their own survival, but for the future of all life on the continent.
6) The Kaldorei Offensive
In a resolute effort to vanquish the qiraji threat, Fandral Staghelm and his night elf forces established multiple outposts and bases throughout southern Kalimdor. These strategic positions allowed the Kaldorei to wage a more effective campaign against their insectoid foes.
The bases proved to be a turning point in the war. With each passing day, the night elves gradually pushed back the qiraji, slowly but surely gaining the upper hand. The tide of battle had shifted, and the Kaldorei advanced into the heart of Silithus, driving the qiraji back into the depths of the desert.
7) The Fall of Southwind Village
Just as victory seemed within grasp, the war took a devastating turn. Valstann, Fandral's son, had been tasked with securing Southwind Village, a crucial outpost near the front lines. The village was essential to the night elves' continued advance against the silithid.
In a cunning maneuver, the qiraji orchestrated a feint, luring Valstann and his defenders into a trap. The village was surrounded, and Valstann himself was captured. In a horrific display of cruelty, the qiraji tore him apart before Fandral's very eyes.
8) The Qiraji Resurgence
Valstann's brutal death shattered the archdruid's resolve and sowed doubt and fear among the night elf ranks. Seizing upon this moment of vulnerability, the qiraji launched a renewed offensive, sweeping through Silithus once more.
The Kaldorei forces, weary and disheartened by the sudden turn of events, fell back before the onslaught. The night elves, who had believed victory to be imminent, found their confidence and morale severely shaken.
9) The Dragons Join the Fray
In desperation, Fandral reached out to the reclusive Bronze Dragonflight, who made their home in the region. He pleaded with them to aid the faltering night elf war effort against the qiraji. Initially, the bronze dragons refused, unwilling to involve themselves in the affairs of lesser races.
However, as the silithid spread beyond Silithus and into the deserts of eastern Tanaris, they launched a brazen assault on the Caverns of Time, the sacred sanctuary of the Bronze Dragonflight. This reckless attack prompted the bronze dragons to finally enter the fray.
Joining forces with the Kaldorei, the Bronze Dragonflight, led by Anachronos, rallied the Red, Green, and Blue dragonflights to their cause. The dragons' entry into the war marked a significant shift in the balance of power.
Bolstered by their powerful new allies, the night elves redoubled their efforts to push back the qiraji swarm once and for all. The stage was set for the final confrontation that would determine the fate of Kalimdor.
10) The Dragons' Might
The arrival of the dragon flights turned the tide of the war decisively in favor of the night elves. The qiraji found themselves outmatched by these powerful new adversaries, who rained destruction upon the insectoid ranks from the skies above.
The dragons proved especially effective against the qiraji, as many of the insectoids lacked the means to strike back at their airborne foes. The qiraji were forced into a steady retreat, their numbers dwindling under the relentless assault.
11) Ossirian's Stand
In one notable encounter during the battles in Silithus, a crafty Giant Anubisath named Ossirian made a valiant stand against the dragons. As the bronze dragon Grakkarond soared overhead, Ossirian hurled his obsidian sword with great force, striking the wyrm's wing.
Grakkarond plummeted to the ground, crushing countless qiraji beneath his immense bulk. Though gravely wounded, the dragon managed to maul Ossirian to the brink of death. However, the remaining qiraji converged upon the fallen dragon, overwhelming him with their sheer numbers.
The site where Grakkarond fell would come to be revered as sacred ground by the Anubisath, a testament to Ossirian's valiant stand against the dragons.
12) The Qiraji's Retreat
Despite isolated incidents like Ossirian's stand, the qiraji were largely unable to withstand the combined might of the dragons and the night elves. They were driven back to the very gates of Ahn'Qiraj, where they sought refuge within the ancient fortress' dark halls and twisting tunnels.
Even with the aid of the dragons, however, the qiraji proved too numerous to be completely eradicated. Fandral Staghelm despaired at the thought of the war dragging on indefinitely, more lives lost with each passing year.
13) The Scarab Wall
In a desperate bid to end the war once and for all, Fandral and the dragons devised a plan to seal the qiraji within Ahn'Qiraj itself. The night elves and their draconic allies gathered before the fortress, ready to carry out this monumental task.
At Fandral's command, the druids combined their powers, and alongside Anachronos, they summoned a colossal barrier to seal off Ahn'Qiraj. The earth split asunder, and a magical wall of stone and giant roots erupted from the ground.
The Scarab Wall, as it would come to be known, towered over the desolate landscape, an impenetrable barrier that would keep the qiraji locked away within their city for millennia to come.
14) The Scepter and the Gong
As a final safeguard, Anachronos created two mystical artifacts: the Scarab Gong and the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. He entrusted the scepter to Fandral, to be used in conjunction with the gong to open the Scarab Wall, should the need ever arise.
However, consumed by grief and rage over Valstann's death, Fandral found no solace in this victory. In a moment of anguish, he shattered the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, scattering its pieces across the land.
The fragments of the scepter would remain lost for a thousand years, while the qiraji languished within their prison, their numbers growing as they waited for their chance to swarm the continent once more.

Copying over old Marvel kinkmeme prompts from LJ:
Revolution is brewing in Asgard
Guards and servants are everywhere in the palace, so word of Thor's banishment, the All-Father falling into the Odinsleep and Loki's elevation to King by the Queen, Heimdall and council gets around fast. The guards are nearby to hear the Warriors 3 and Sif ask for Thor's return and Loki's rightful refusal. They disappear shortly after that and they were last seen heading for the Bifrost; it doesn't take a genius to figure out where they went and that Heimdall let them. The guards/servants know Loki saved a helpless Odin from Layfey. The next thing anyone else knows, the Bifrost is destroyed, Thor is back, and he is standing over Loki when he falls from the broken remains of the Rainbow Bridge.
Loki is well accustomed to secrets and working in the shadows. No one sees his plotting and manipulations. No one on Asgard knows what transpired in New Mexico. And after the events of the first movie are over, Odin feels no need to inform his subjects of what truly happened. Sif tells anyone who will listen of Loki's evil acts, but she is hardly a reliable source; it is well known how little she and Loki got along. Everything else comes from the whispers of the guards and the servants in the palace- and the story they tell is of a King betrayed by those closest to him, a King who was only trying to protect Asgard and live up to the example set by the All-Father, a King that died at the hand of his banished and violent brother.
In the time between Thor and the Avengers, Thor shows more humility and caution, but not much. He, Sif and the Warriors 3 start to realize (but not appreciate) how much Loki did for them. There is no Loki to smooth things over when Fandral has taken the wrong woman to bed, when Sif has lashed out and started a fight, when Hogan thinks his honor has been insulted, when Volstagg thinks his tavern tab is too high and refuses to pay. There is no magic to save them from danger on hunts. There is no Silvertongue to talk the All-Father around to their point of view. There is no Loki to come between Odin and Thor when father and son clash. There is no mischief to ease tensions around the palace.
Meanwhile, the guards are spreading the treasonous acts of Heimdall, Sif and the Warriors 3, unhappy that they were not punished for defying a rightful orders of the King and the All-Father. They find many willing ears, even among those that didn't particularly like Loki.
No one cares the Loki was a Frost Giant; half of Asgard, including the rest of the descendants of Buri, have giant blood as well. Queen Bestla, Odin's giantess mother, is still remembered quite fondly. Loki was raised Aesir and he was loyal to Asgard, that is all that matters to the masses. They don't care that he tried to destroy Jotanheim; Laufey should never have tried to go against Asgard and brought destruction upon his own realm. No one but the younger warriors care about the magic; sorcerers are a part of everyday life and the seasoned warriors of Bor and Odin's wars tell stories of the great battle sorcerers of Vanaheim and magic ice blades of Jotanheim before they both fell under Asgard's glorious rule. His mischief is frequently remembered with anger, but that is hardly something worth overthrowing a King for.
When Loki is returned to Asgard in chains after invading Earth, the chains are all the masses care about. Midgard is filled with nothing more than easily killed mortals that believe them to be gods. It was Loki's right as a prince of Asgard and as King to take control of that realm if he wished to. He needn't have involved the Chitari, there were plenty of restless warriors on Asgard that would have answered his call. They do not understand Thor's indignation, he's done the same thing before and will again.
The longer Loki stays locked up, the longer his betrayers remain unpunished, the more the resentment grows. The Dark Elves attack, the queen dies, Loki dies in chains, Thor leaves for Earth and his mortal lover again. Odin (Loki) is left alone to deal with the damage.
I see this as all taking place in the background of the the movies, nothing that was onscreen changing, then taking over after The Dark World ends. What does Thor return to after Age of Ultron?
Bonus: Loki is on the throne when Thor returns, not Loki-as-Odin…

I personally wish people stop referring to ‘Lady Loki’ as a Loki, because it was literally Classic 616-evil Loki hijacking Sif’s body. And she was aware of it.
Tumblr media
Seriously, just cos people want to have a ‘sexy female Loki’, they literally ignore Sif’s suffering. Holy fucking shit.

And Into the Light | Fandral & Thor, ft. Loki & the Bloodwraith
[Counterpart - Thor’s Perspective]
Earlier that evening...
Fandral’s throat was dry. He was tired of screaming. The skin around his wrists and ankles was red and sore from the chains he dragged around the void. He was sitting with his head on his knees, arms wrapped around his thinned legs. His body was deteriorating, pale and aching. This creature was slowly killing him and some days he wondered why he didn’t just give up.
Perhaps it was the infrequent visits from Sir Percy and Dane. They gave him new information about the destruction; he often didn’t want to hear it. He himself wasn’t committing these thoughtless murders, but his body was. Even if he didn’t enjoy hearing about the slaughters, having company even briefly was better than the silence.
Then, he heard something. Something familiar. Someone he recognized.
Heimdall.
“Leave this place now.”
Fandral lifted his head. He was on Asgard now. His weak heart felt leapt, beating faster and stronger. The wraith didn’t say anything, but he heard Heimdall shouting and there were swords clashing.
Then came the thunder.
Fandral stood. Thor had arrived.
“Fandral is dead,” He heard the wraith say.
He clenched his fists. “No, I’m not.”
A jolt of electricity shot through his body, knocking him down onto the ground - this was the first time he had felt an external attack. He lifted his arms, and the shackles on his wrists were crackling with blue and white lightning. Even an entity of death wasn’t impervious to Thor’s power.
He could hear the battle ensuing as he lifted himself back to his feet.
“You will die now, prince.”
“No!” Fandral shouted. “Don’t hurt him! Please!”
He heard the wraith laughing - but the laugh was caught short.
“Not so fast, snake.” That voice...Loki? Before he could wonder why the long lost Asgardian Prince was with Thor, he felt something else.
The blackened void was met with a yellow white at the peak. Fandral felt the floor give out beneath him and he was floating between nothing and something. A hand reached through the darkness, grabbing hold of his body and ripping him free of the shackles. The light in front of him was so bright and he blinked a few times.
“I don’t think this will hold long, Fandral, so speak quickly.”
Fandral inhaled sharply. As his eyes adjusted, he saw the detailing of Heimdall’s conservatory surrounding him. He was in control, but only just. The figures before him focused and his eyes immediately locked with Thor. He relaxed, though the pressure of the wraith was pulsing in his brain. He felt a gentle kick and remembered he needed to speak.
“The sword is his power,” He said. Hearing his own voice reverberating in his throat was a strange sensation. “It must be cleansed. Thor, you must go to Camelot. He’s gaining power so he can return there to rule. Thor, you have to go - you need to save everyone.”
Thor was quick to interrupt: “I need to save you.”
Fandral shook his head saying, “No! He won’t stop.” The wraith was clawing its way out. He felt himself sinking back inside himself. “Thor - “
He was too late.
“No, no, no, no, no!” But the words weren’t coming from his mouth anymore.
He was falling. The light around him faded, and he landed flat on his back in the same familiar emptiness. He watched as the last flicker of white blipped out of existence. A silvery smoke rose from the darkness and wrapped around his extremities and a metal shink! solidified around his wrists and ankles. The shackles returned, and the chains secured him down.
For the first time in months, he finally had hope. Even though his imprisonment was more strict now than ever before, that meant the wraith was afraid. It didn’t want to risk Fandral getting out again and telling Thor about the Brazier of Truth.
-- --
[Counterpart - Thor’s Perspective]
Later that evening...
The Bloodwraith was weakened. He could feel they were passing through the Bifrost, which made him woozy, and he shut his eyes. He lay completely helpless and pinned. They were undoubtedly on their way to Camelot. He learned it was an old Midgardian kingdom that was sealed away. He didn’t have time to relay that to Thor, but he had the resources available to find it regardless.
As he settled back into the abyss, the creaks and aches of his bones returned. Then an intense pressure planted itself on his chest. He winced at the pain and he cracked one eye open. A ghostly image was hovering over his body. The wisps of smoke corporealized on top of him, and a knee was pressing down hard on his ribs.
The figure looked like him, which wasn’t entirely surprising.
“You’ve aged, swordsman. Soon your bones will turn to ash and your body will rot and I will prevail. Then I will kill your friends. The last thing they will see is their dear friend Fandral disemboweling them. Maybe I’ll keep you alive long enough to hear their screams...I haven’t yet decided.”
Fandral tensed and tried to lunge forward. The chains gave ever so slightly, but they were tightened quickly by the wraith. The imposter stood up and the dimension shifted, so Fandral was upright as if he were against a wall.
“Thor will defeat you,” It said, pulling forward on the chains again.
The wraith laughed. “Your tenacity continues to astound me. We will be in Camelot soon enough. Then I shall deal with you.”
Without another word, the figure vanished into smoke. He hung his head and sighed.
-- --
Fandral didn’t know how long he had waited. The wraith had never visited him before, but something told him that wouldn’t be the last time he saw it that day. As long as Thor was on the case, he wouldn’t rest until the evil was destroyed.
Soon enough, smoke manifested before him, and the shadow returned. He looked angry.
“That Asgardian is truly insufferable...though I suppose that is in your nature. You’re the strongest will I’ve come across in my entire existence.”
It sounded like a compliment, but Fandral knew it wasn’t intended to be.
“Why are you here? Are you afraid you’re going to lose?”
His fake laughed, then frowned. It pulled its arm back and punched directly into Fandral’s stomach. The chains holding him taught collapsed as his torso jolted backwards. No longer being held up, his knees dropped and his wrists strained under his weight.
“You would do well to keep silent.” The wraith snarled.
Fandral’s eyebrow furrowed. “And if I don’t?”
A swift kick came next. The creature had to’ve been afraid because it kept throwing kicks and punches at Fandral. He wasn’t dying fast enough, and the wraith was running out of time.
It reached backwards into the darkness and smoke manifested a dagger.
“Do you know what this is?” It asked. Fandral eyed the weapon, but the metal was so dark he could only see the hilt. “This is the obsidian dagger. Or...not really. That dagger was destroyed long ago, but - that doesn’t mean this won’t do the trick.”
Before Fandral could react, the wraith punched the dagger into his side. He yelled out in pain as the blade stuck his organs.
Unfortunately for the Bloodwraith, he did get his chance outside again. The same white light pulled him out of his body shone above the two. The wraith dissipated in the light, blasting away into smoke. His arms and feet dropped as the shackles unhinged and he drifted up towards the real world.
This time he saw Loki first. He coughed into his arm and saw red spatter along his sleeve.
“Loki, this thing is killing me. I - I don’t know how much longer I can fight it. You need to cleanse the sword in the Brazier of Truth - in the church.” He looked to Thor as he appeared up the steps. “Only someone worthy can light it.”
Fandral started to black out before the mind effect wore off. He slipped back into the abyss, landing hard on the imagined floor. He weakly lifted his head, seeing the bloody dagger next to him. He reached over and grabbed the hilt. As he pulled the dagger towards him, a boot stepped from out of the darkness and onto the blade.
“Leave me alone,” Fandral said, pulling his hand away from the dagger.
“And I thought you enjoyed company. After all, you spend so much time with those pretty women...and men.”
“I would rather spend eternity with Malekith the Accursed than you.”
It chuckled. “Do you still not know what this is? Do you not know where we are?”
Fandral grabbed onto his side and slid up to his knees. He stared up at the creature before him - but it was more than that. He nodded slowly.
“I’ve known for a while.”
On one of the visits with Sir Percy and Dane, they divulged information to him about what the ebony blade does to people like him. When the blade accumulates souls, it begins to break the user's soul, depending on how many lives they have taken.
Fandral had a violent reaction - worse than anyone could have imagined. His physical being shattered. The man bleeding on the ground was a mere fragment remaining of the true Fandral. The abyss was somewhere deep in his mind, but the evil being was in control. The Bloodwraith was just another side effect of the curse.
The true Fandral couldn’t hear the fight going on around him. He didn’t know that the physical wraith was trapped in fear, or that Thor and Loki were being fighting his ‘evil self’ outside. Time didn’t pass, and everything was still. His imposter bent down to pick up the obsidian dagger and extended it towards Fandral. With a small shimmer it elongated until it resembled the ebony blade.
“Once you’re dead, there will be nothing left. You will be free of this prison, off in Valhalla with our kin...or maybe you’ll go to Hel, where you belong. Assuming a fragment of a person could even find their way to the afterlife.”
Fandral looked to the ground. He clenched his side, where blood spilled from his wound. He closed his eyes. It can’t end like this.
The ground shook vigorously for a few seconds, and his alternate staggered backwards.
“Fandral!” Thor’s voice echoed throughout the void.
His eyes shot open and he pushed himself up to his feet. He charged forward and yelled, running directly into the creature. He knocked it onto the ground, and he began punching its face over and over again.
“Give me my body back!” He shouted.
“No!” The evil form growled. With a large heave, it knocked Fandral off and rolled him onto his back. It raised the sword and held it over Fandral’s heart. “If I die, you die with me.”
Fandral’s eyes scanned the blade from hilt to tip slowly. Smoke billowed around him, wrapping around his limbs again. As the smoke tightened around his limbs, he clenched his fists. He refused to die a prisoner.
He firmly planted his feet on the ground. With the last of his strength, he pushed up off the ground with his arms, knocking the wraith back. When their bodies met at a V shape, Fandral felt the sword pierce his skin. As he continued forward, it pushed through his chest and completely out the other side. His palms caught the floor, and he hovered over the wraith, breathing heavily as his body processed being stabbed.
The wraith chuckled. “You don’t give up, do you? This is why you lost.”
Fandral shook his head. He sat upright, pulling the ebony blade from his chest. He felt his wound open like a watergate. “I haven’t lost. It’s like you said...if I die…” He gripped the blade hard. “You die with me.”
Raising the sword over his head, he mustered as much strength as he could and brought the blade down on the wraith’s neck. It’s head held to its neck by threads, but it stopped moving instantly. Fandral continued breathing heavily, resting his forehead on the sword. He pushed himself up to his feet to step over the corpse before him before falling flat onto the ground again.
As he blinked in and out of consciousness, a white blip could be seen in the distance. He lifted his head an inch off the ground. The spot flickered and swelled slowly. He reached one hand out and tried to drag himself forward. He cried out in pain and placed the hand over his wound instead.
“I’m so sorry, Thor,” Fandral whispered, his eyes losing focus. He finally gave in and let his eyes close.
His skin felt warm...then hot...and then boiling. His eyelids clamped tightly and he felt like something was escaping his body. What he couldn’t see was the room around him ruptured with thousands of particles, erasing the blackness from the void around him. The body and sword next to him disintegrated into dust.
The warmth around him died out as his body burst into particles.

Something rolled him onto his back. He was pulled up and his head rested in what felt like a palm. A hand gripped his side gently, near where he was stabbed. There was no pain there, but his bones ached severely.
“Fandral...please wake up…”
The voice sounded close - Fandral realised he was back in his own body. His face contorted strangely, but he couldn’t quite figure out how to make any of his muscles move.
“Th…hh...oo...r…” He breathed.
Thor pulled him closer, and Fandral’s eyelids slid open. He blinked and looked around, everything focusing on the man hovering above him. The worry on Thor’s face shifted to a sad smile. Fandral smiled until his gaze met with a giant red bruise on the other man’s neck. He reached up and gently touched the mark.
“Did I…?”
Thor shook his head, grabbing Fandral’s hand and holding it tightly. “No...I don’t think…” He glanced away for a moment before continuing, “Do you remember what I gave you the first day we met?”
Fandral glanced away and thought for a moment.
“An apple,” He said finally. “It was gold and you said, ‘this is an apple of everlasting life. If you eat this, you will never be alone because we can be friends forever.’”
Thor sighed in relief and pulled Fandral into a tight embrace.
“Oh Fandral, I missed you so.”
“I missed you, too,” Fandral sniffed.
Thor whispered, “Let’s get you home.”
