Reasons Why Marrying William Sloan Is the Best Decision of Your Life [01] (Rules of Engagement, Book 1 Chapter 2)

The first time you meet William Sloan is when he rescues you from a creeper in the first (and very last!) singles cocktail mixer that you have ever attended. You don’t know it at the time, but he’s filthy rich, so he opts to buy out the entire goddamn bar for the afternoon “to defuse the situation”, as he later tells you. You’re in disbelief at first, and frankly not at all impressed. Seriously, who does that? Surely he could have come up with something less extravagant?

A very good one, too, you think, as it dawns on you that while buying out the bar may have seemed too much, it was also a clever, calculated investment. “What do you say, Alyanna?“ William asks, his smile distracting you from a small voice in your head that reminds you you’ve only just met. “Join me for a night out in Venice?”

I adore William Sloan more than I can possibly say. There is something sexy and admirable about a man who is dedicated to his work and will still make time to be there for you. I wanted to write a list of reasons why I want my MC Alyanna to marry him (best life decision ever!), but I ended up with a story-like narration of their first meeting instead. Is it supposed to be a fic?? I have no idea lol. 

In any case, I think this is a good opportunity to underscore how clever their first meeting is and how it emphasizes the fact that he’s a businessman who takes calculated risks and invests on something (buying out the bar) that’s supposed to yield profits (having MC to himself for the rest of the afternoon). Not sure if it was intended to come across that way, but it definitely made me smile when I realized it!

You’ll discover real quick here that I have not played many games. I like what I like XD

-Games-

First game you ever played: Pirates of the Caribbean online? I burned through the free version in a couple days and then my friend bought me Sid Meier’s Pirates. 

Favorite game: Either ME2 or ME3. I just love how the second upends the optimism of the first game and shows you the dark underbelly of the galaxy. And I always love me a good lazarus story. And the raw emotion of the world ending in 3. And how it ties together so many threads of previous games (though sometimes it gets a little weird.)

Game you hated at first but now love: Can I say ME1? It was a steep learning curve getting through that game the first time. I nearly rage quit SO many times fighting that Krogan battlemaster on Therum. 

Game you used to love but now hate: I spend a lot of time in Skyrim. Hundreds of hours. But I don’t see myself going back. No matter how many times it gets remastered/rereleased. 

Game with the best group/companion(s): ME2. They sound like the literal worst of the galaxy, but then you get to know them all and realize they must be protected at all costs. God, even Zaeed won me over in the end.

A game with your favorite ending: ME3, destroy ending specifically. There’s something about Shepard shooting a wannabe god with a pistol. The anger on their face. Their resolve. The ensuing explosion. Everything that happens after I would have written differently, though, tbh. 

A game with the WORST ending: ....this might be an unpopular opinion, but I really hate how DA2 ends. It kind of feels like the main events of that game happen no matter what you do? I was kind of hoping to see a less violent side to the mages, especially since they seem queer coded to me. It feels like Bioware was trying too hard to justify the Chantry’s behavior. (Yes I’m aware that it sounds like Anders wrote this. xD)

Best character customization?: Of the one’s I’ve played? Mass Effect Andromeda. Though I feel like Femryder has better options than Maleryder.

Your favorite playable character:  Shepard << hands down. Though being gay in Ancient Greece as Kassandra was a ton of fun too.

A game you love watching playthroughs for and want to play: None. I hate watching playthroughs and only do it when I need dialogue for a specific scene. ^^This!

Online gaming or solo?: I may have got my start in online gaming, but I prefer solo. The only exception seems to be playing Among Us with friends.

Why do you play video games?: To be honest, I started playing games regularly because the hormone regulator I take (spironolactone) makes me kind of light headed sometimes. And when I first started taking it, my dermatologist gave me a much stronger dose than I needed. I was basically useless for two hours a day. I take a more reasonable dose now, but the habit remains. Eat lunch, take meds, and play games for two hours when I can. Now it’s more of a self-care thing. I find video games help me cope with PTSD. Combat situations that I can beat without too much challenge relieves that fight instinct my reptile brain is always trying to activate. Puzzle games like sudoku and mahjong (the matching game, not so much the original strategy game) help me with freeze responses.

I'm so done with Kevin and Sophie. I'm also done with the writers throwing women at Kevin without any build up. The only characters I believe are well developed are Jack, Rebecca and Randall. I remember how at the beginning the writers would just put him with a woman instead of focusing on Kevin himself. The first episode the writers really worked on him as an individual person was the 2x08. After that, with the exception of very specific moments, he didn't have many moments where he shone. And that's solely because the content didn't give him such opportunity. However, on season 4 he became a scene stealer to me. I loved seeing his recovery, him getting closer to his uncle (and sort of doing what Jack couldn't do), his bond with baby Jack and Tess. It was amazing, he was evolving so much. I didn't like Cassidy's presence at all, it took away moments that should've been about him and Nicky and the story would've gone just fine - even better - without her. It's not like she was a character like William and the show would've have a different path without her. Anyway, after he left Nicky, the writers went back to their old habit of throwing women at him. Lizzie, Sophie, Madison. I actually would've enjoyed him with Lizzie if there was any chance of that happening because Sophia is an amazing actress. She gave life to one of my favorite characters of all time (Brooke Davis) and would've been an amazing addition to the show. She is amazing at drama. Unfortunately, they wasted their opportunity bringing her only as a guest to play the "will she be Kevin's baby mama?" game (how they were able to do this with her is beyond me, but alright). Sophie is just an over used card. It's predictable. It's repetitive. And it's problematic. He's let her down way too many times, if my memory serves me well he even cheated on her at some point, they are divorced, he always goes back to her when he is vulnerable... That's not healthy. I think some people ship them because she is the longest relationship he ever had and the other examples to compare are all almost even worse. The fact they aren't the worse Kevin ship doesn't mean they are good together. That's setting the bar too low. Kevin seems to never be able to be really open up to her when they are together. Kevin didn't even look like he missed and wanted her for most of the series. The way she was introduced was totally out of the blue, when he was divided between Sloane and Olivia and never even mentioned her or acted like he wanted someone else, but then he suddenly showed up at her door because he was in love with her? My guess is that Kevin is projecting to his younghood, a great love story like his parent's had and exist on movies. That's why he keeps coming back to her, because he is desperate for this idea of love and in a way Sophie is the closest thing he has to anything like that. We also have flashbacks that show them as teenagers having fun and everything, but there's never stuff about them struggling, disagreeing, fighting. Not that I believe couples should fight all the time, but there's no development. The creators have made a great job with Rebecca/Jack and Randall/Beth, they've shown the highs and lows of their relationships, they working together to deal with and/or solve their problems, their evolution... When it comes to Kevin and Sophie, they seem incapable of doing such thing. They've spent most of the series apart and Kevin only remembers of her existence in very convenient moments. It's not organic. At this point I want to him to be with Madison, a new woman, a man, a non-binary person or just being a single dad or co-parenting with someone. I just can't handle any more Sophie, it's become exhausting. I actually think they could take a really nice route with Madison or someone new. All of the pairings on this show were either introduced at day one or got together immediately. I've always wanted to see a couple that were friends first on this show. Unfortunately, Kevin and Madison already slept together, but they can write the two concluding it was a mistake and not doing it again for a while. They become friends, confidants, without any second intention, but slowly progress into something deeper. I know there's only a few months left for it, but it's still possible. The show constantly plays with its chronological time, it has flashbacks and time jumps, so it would still be possible to build a relationship. They can also show them spending time together weekly during the present time to develop their relationship slowly and well. She can get pregnant accidentally and they decide to keep it. I don't see any disadvantage between a new relationship for him and Kevin and Sophie tbh. Kevin has broke her heart multiple times, her friends hate him, she is engaged to marry someone else... In a certain, a fresh start would be easier to write. And would be amazing if the creators worked on the dynamics of him and Madison as a couple and both being so close to Kate. They could've explored that with Zoe/Beth, but since they didn't, that's a new opportunity. Doing a storyline with a pregnant woman who has a history of eating disorder would be fantastic as well, since this season is giving more attention to health problems. And if they bring a new character to be his endgame, it also can be great depending on how they build their relationship. Having Kevin being a single father or co-parenting with somebody could be incredible as well. I just believe that creatively wise is better to let Kevin move on once and for all.

I read Morgan Matson’s book ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ yesterday. And I just can’t stop thinking about how amazing that book is.

Emily Hughes and Sloane Williams have been best of friends for two years. Sloane is the kind of girl who always shine and the outgoing one between the two while Emily is that quiet, shy, living behind Sloanes’ shadow. They’ve been inseparable ever since they became bff but then one day, Emily woke up and her bestfriend, Sloane, was nowhere to be found. Two weeks later, she received a letter from Sloane with the list of things that she wants Emily to accomplish.

Emily was convinced that if she accomplished everything on the list that Sloane sent her, she’ll be able to find her best friend again so, even if it’s taking everything in her, she tried to complete the list, meeting new friends and finding herself along the way.

Of course at first Emily didn’t know if she’ll be able to do all of it because she felt lost that Sloane is not there with her. I really love how she became more confident and independent as the story goes. And how she got to know more about herself and Sloane even if she’s not with her anymore.

My fave part of this book is when Sloane and Emily first met. It was just so cute and fun and how they just naturally click. Also that time on “Ask for Mona’ and the girl showed Emily the job application that Sloane made. It was just so sweet of her. I honestly cried happy tears on that one. That one when they watch movies and those diet coke. Those sleepovers. Those bargaining techniques. And of course when Emily finds Sloane. I was crying so hard in that part. I love their friendship so much. It’s not perfect, flawed, but it’s just really beautiful. It made me miss the best friend I never had. I just wish we’ve seen more of them in the book tbh.
