the best (and worst) part about writing transformers fanfic is when you're writing something that includes canonically named characters that have no other given information. trying to flesh out the disappeared cybertronians on the necroworld is so strange bc they're all technically their own named characters but for most of them there is like. no information for them.

all of these names and there's NOTHING to base them off of. it's an empty sandbox to do whatever the hell i want with it (aka giving ravage a tiny army that he brings to sanctuary <3)

TLG: Battle for the Pridelands Sketches

To celebrate the 5th Anniversary of one of my favorite episodes of TLG, I decided to do some sketches of some takeaways I had during a rewatch of the episode:

1. Wema, Tunu, Dogo, and Kijana aged up to how old I think they'd be around the time of the episode. Why were they not aged up?? Kiara, Tiifu, Zuri, and Mtoto were given some specific age models only used in this episode, why not the Outlander kids? I feel the jackals would be the equivalent to 12 years old by this time, while Wema and Tunu would be like 8-year-old kids.

2. I've heard people ask where the zebras and baboons were during the final battle, and for a while I was like "Yeah aren't they significant recurring characters? Where even were they in the Pridelands Army arc of Season 2?", but THEN it dawned on me: Baboon. Zebra. Cavalry. When watching the scene where everyone charges to the Outlands, I saw the galagos riding the sable antelope and went "haha like horses, that'd be funny if it was with zebras because equines", then I was like "baboons would probably be like humans while riding zebras" and I was just "WAIT IS THAT WHY PEOPLE WANTED THOSE ANIMALS IN THIS EPISODE". So here we are, Big Baboon and Thurston team up to surprise the Outlanders (and even the Pridelanders) by doing what they do best -- throwing fruit and panicking and running, respectively.

3. A sketch of this sudden visual I got during Ushari and Scar's conversation where Scar promised that Ushari and the rest of the reptiles would have whatever's left of the ravaged Pridelands. I instantly imagined the Pridelands becoming this unrecognizable wasteland ideal only for heat-seeking reptiles after the disastrous volcanic eruption Scar had in mind. The environment would be a tad like something out of the Mesozoic era.

4. One of my favorite aspects of this episode: The famous important-as-hell-but-vaguely-presented lore drop of the Strange Lion's (actually pretty ambiguous) existence as well as his actions accelerating Scar's entitlement and envy of Mufasa (which would kickstart the very premise of the first movie and the franchise as we know it). I love this guy's design for the same reason I love Zira's -- it's just so consistent in shapes and colors that all match with each other.

5. I find it funny that in order to not interfere with the events of TLK 2, TLG just decided to have it so the Outsiders would be completely out of the loop of the fact that Scar's spirit returned. It could easily be explained that Scar kept Zira out of it on purpose, or that he didn't know (and possibly didn't care) that she was still around. I have to think that the Outsiders don't live too far from the Outlands Volcano, so they've had to have heard some commotion and wonder what on earth could be going on. Looks like Zira's fanatic spiritual connection with her beloved Scar can apparently be heard by her peers.

I read Summer’s End by FeralTuxedo a while ago (lovely rec) and am definitely back in my TLOU-apocalyptic-setting-with-a-moody-but-calm/nature-esk-atmosphere-and-character-centred-plot era again. I just genuinely enjoyed the specific atmosphere that the apocalyptic setting gives works. Anyway, that being said, I would love any recs that would fit that kind of vibe (I would prefer less smut since I skip over it but honestly as long as it isn’t specifically plot-relevant its fine lol also not TOO much angst please, I cant deal with Az or Crow actually dying or something like that unless it is done in a comforting way).

Once characters can call or text one another, a whole portfolio of suspense-building gimmicks – like the high-speed race across town – just stop working. For years, thriller writers contrived implausible – but narratively convenient – ways to go on using these tropes. Think of the shopworn "damn, my phone is out of battery/range just when I need it the most":

But even as technology was sawing a hole in the suspense writer's bag of tricks, shrewd suspense writers were cooking up a whole new menu of clever ways to build suspense in ways that turn on the limitations and capabilities of technology. One pioneer of this was Iain M Banks (RIP), whose 2003 novel Dead Air was jammed with wildly ingenious ways to use cellphones to raise the stakes and heighten the tension:

This is "techno-realism" at its best. It's my favorite mode of storytelling, the thing I lean into with my Little Brother and Martin Hench books – stories that treat the things that technology can and can't do as features, not bugs. Rather than having the hacker "crack the mainframe's cryptography in 20 minutes when everyone swears it can't be done in less than 25," the techno-realist introduces something gnarlier, like a supply-chain attack that inserts a back-door, or a hardware keylogger, or a Remote Access Trojan.

Back to Roque's debut novel: it's a teen murder mystery told in the most technorealist way. Cia's best friend Alice has been trying to find her missing boyfriend for months, and in her investigation, she's discovered their small town's dark secret – a string of disappearances, deaths and fires that are the hidden backdrop to the town's out-of-control addiction problem.

Alice has something to tell Cia, something about the fire that orphaned her and cost her one leg when she was only five years old, but Cia refuses to hear it. Instead, they have a blazing fight, and part ways. It's the last time Cia and Alice ever see each other: that night, Alice kills herself.

Hi are you up for a messy scene analysis thing

Ofc it's this scene who do you think I am

I've been wanting to do this for God knows how long but I never had the balls and neither the words to (still don't) but I wanna try to properly talk about this scene. My primal instinct is to sit here and tell you how much this 30 second scene changed the trajectory of these characters in the next movies, how it made their friendship grow and develop and how much of a storytelling lesson it is (oh the so so deep understanding you need to have of your characters to have them say things so vaguely and still express exactly what they mean). I could also go down the emotional and subjective road and ramble about how much it means to me and how I resonate with it, but I've done that at least 837382 times and I think everyone knows it by now 😭 so!!! Let's get to the real thing

(I'm trying to keep it as analytical and straightforward as possible but please note that this is my favorite scene that's ever existed so neutrality is not really a possibility)

Rocket is a brat. He's restless, he's loud, he's always puffing up his chest and yelling at someone and picking fights with the wind cuz it was blowing in a way he didn't like and he's just an overall bastard. In this scene, though, we see him inside out. His head is low, his shoulders are slumped, he has his tail between his knees and he looks tired. He speaks quietly (curiously like he doesn't want anybody else to hear him), he's not deliberately insulting anyone and he's just..... defeated??

Up until that point I don't think we ever got to see Rocket like that. From what the movies have shown us he'd never had to. But in the past few days that led to this, Rocket had stolen batteries for no apparent reason (which we'll later learn why💀), ruined their ship, got literally kidnapped by Ravagers, blew up a creepy planet-guy-thing and oh my god attended his friend's dad's funeral. At least half of these things were directly or indirectly his fault and he knows it.

I don't think he ever doubted it was (we see it earlier in the movie when the Guardians leave to "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac and Rocket scowls and winces like he either stepped in a pile of shit or got hit in the face by regret), but he still argued with Peter even knowing he was in the wrong just to keep up apparences or hold on to a little thread of pride when he was already feeling ashamed for being caught red-handed stealing shit he didn't need AND destroying their ship etc etc, and he just kinda fucked up big time. And I think that's (besides the general exhaustion of parenting a tree and fighting a planet and Yondu's death) is what got him so devastated in that scene.

Ofc Yondu played an extremely important role in that. He was the one to open Rocket's eyes, to give him some sort of reality check and show him the only thing isolation is ever gonna bring him is regret and bitterness (or, in other words, Yondu). Rocket is most of all hopeless and tired and just sad like that because he knows he hurt his friends. He knows he's chasing them away, that he yells at them, that he's always mean and that he steals batteries he doesn't need. He knows he's not awesome to put up with and seeing what happened to Yondu and his former friends probably made him terrified it'd happen to him and the Guardians too. He's stuck in this cycle of pushing them away with everything he can (and we could get into all his trauma regarding betrayal and death and literally endless other things but it's all very clear at this point) and he knows patience doesn't last forever. He's just scared, he feels bad and he's tired.

Now on the other hand we have Quill. He's also destroyed, he lost two fathers (3 if you count what Ego could've been, what he wanted him to be), basically relived his mother's death and had to watch literally every single one of them die. He's also scared and tired, yes, but all he has left is this unstable family of weird idiots who are learning how to show care and he's... pretty much fine with it. He wants it.

And when what Rocket's saying clicks, when he realizes who he's talking about, Quill, who's usually all smirks and teasing and bickering and name-calling, looks at his best friend like this,

Won't even try to comment on that last part before Quill's last line but I also really like that Peter just "shakes his head" over and over like he's just barely listening until he realizes what Rocket really means cuz it also shows a lot about his character. He's naturally a little slow and downright stupid when it comes to this kind of hidden emotional thing and he's also exhausted and depressed from everything that happened and STILL he stops and just. Sees Rocket, and sees Yondu.)

He's not doing well. He's probably sore and hurt and sad and miserable and yet he takes his sweet time to look down at Rocket, let go of his resentment from before and see right through him. In order to understand this scene it's important to remember he most likely doesn't know what Yondu told Rocket at all, he doesn't know anything they said to each other and how Yondu showed him they're mirrors. He doesn't know any of that. He just knows his best friend and his father and how much they resemble each other. He puts up with Rocket's bullshit because he knows how to deal with Yondu.

He could've just ignored him or pretended he didn't know what he was talking about. He could've made Rocket swallow his pride and "teach him a lesson" by making him say what he means without hiding behind metaphors and vague self-deprecation, because Rocket was probably vulnerable and defeated enough to be honest in that moment. And yet, he just looks at his friend, who's usually a loud and mean and restless brat, and is now staring at the floor with his ears droopy and his tail between his knees, and just says, as a form of reassurance and tenderness that's just as subtle and shy as Rocket's insecurities, "Well, of course not."

The Saxons were on edge, now that Alfreds dog was unleashed and roaming free, but Uhtred packed up the Coocham pack and didn’t look back. It was on a rare solo hunt when Sihtric first met Corvina, her pale skin and red eyes ensnaring him rather than putting him on edge. She claimed she was hunting some human criminal, but Sihtric found he didn’t actually care. He just wanted her and she wanted him. Naturally, that first meeting ended with Sihtric pinning Corvina to a tree as he ravaged her, the image of her crying out his name burned into his memories.

They continued to meet in secret for years, whispering promises and declarations of love with only the moon as witness. Uhtred never learned why Sihtric started doing hunts alone or why he always found excuses to go on long trips, or if he did, he never said. Now, Uhtred sat as lord of Bebbanburg and head of the Northumbria wolves, while Sihtric was the Lord of Dunholm and the alpha of his own pack. His favorite perk was that didn’t have to sneak away to have a moment with his lady love. He could have her in his home, beneath the furs on his bed without a care in the world if anyone heard them. The pack didn’t particularly care for Corvina, but she never bothered them so they simply turned a blind eye to the goings on.

It was late one night when Sihtric retired to his chambers after several days of dealing with a border dispute. Now that Danes, Saxons and wolves could live in Northumbria together, it was an adjustment for everyone and problems arose constantly. He was tired and frustrated, just wanting to collapse on his bed and sleep to hopefully forget about the events of the last few days. It was a petty dispute that ended in the Saxon farmer getting attacked by the wolf he accused of poaching his livestock. It was brutal, the farmer permanently scarred for the rest of his life and the wolf being escorted to Bebbanburg to answer to Uhtred. What he wasn’t expecting, was to walk in and see Corvina laid up in his bed, her smile making his heart race as he hurried to her side.

”I did not think I would see you for a few more days, my love,” he said as he kicked off his boots and crawled over her, kissing up her neck and along her jawline. Even after all this time, he couldn’t help but marvel at the smoothness of her skin.

Corvina chuckled, running her hand through the curls at the base of his neck. “I finished my duties a little earlier than expected, so I thought I would come to you. I can tell by your face that it has been a long few days. Do you wish to talk about it?” She asked in a concerned tone as Sihtric wrapped her in his arms and buried his face in her neck.

”No, I just want to forget. Corvina, make me forget,” he pleaded as he pulled back to look into her eyes, wanting to lose himself in her before having to face tomorrow.

She complied without hesitation, their lips meeting in a desperate kiss as hands explored the other with the certainty of long time lovers. Clothes were removed and discarded on the floor haphazardly, breathy moans filling the air alongside the crackling of the hearth. Sihtric kissed down her body, the warmth of his lips contrasting with the coolness of her skin as he positioned himself between her legs. He licked a stripe up her folds, growling lowly at the salty taste before devouring her. He could feel the beast within jump to the surface, wanting nothing more than to give into his primal instincts and claim her like he had a thousand times before. And she let him, just as she had before.

He brought her to her peak with his tongue and fingers before pulling away to flip her over, swatting her rear playfully as she arched her back and gave him a cheeky grin over her shoulder. Sihtric lined himself up and thrusted into Corvina with a grunt, his claws digging into the pale flesh of her waist while she moaned, adjusting to his length for a moment before he set a slow, torturous pace. His hand traced up her spine slowly, one clawed hand wrapping around her throat and pulling her up until his chest pressed against her back. The angle gave him the opportunity to see her pleasure drunk face, her red eyes hooded and fangs on display as the most sinful sounds fell from her ruby lips. It took everything in Sihtric not to bite down on her shoulder and mark her as his mate, but he didn’t need some mark to know she was his just as he was hers.

Yellow eyes held red ones, her hand reaching back and tangling in his hair once more as her nails scratched at his forearm and left red lines in their wake. Their combined groans and the creaking of the bed would tell anyone passing by what they were doing, but neither was concerned, too lost in the other to care for the opinions of others. His free hand snaked down her body, fingers rubbing circles around her sensitive nub as she trembled in his arms, her walls clamping down on him while she cried out his name. No matter how many times he had her, the sight of her climaxing was one he would love forever. It didn’t take him long to follow after her, the two collapsing on the bed as they rode out their highs together.

When he finally pulled out to lay beside her, their shaky breaths turned into laughter as they looked at the other, a comfortable familiarity settling over them as Sihtric pulled Corvina into his side with a series of quick pecks all over her face. They laid there tangled together under the furs, gently caressing scarred bodies and breathing each other in. They talked for hours, and made love when talking wasn’t enough, Corvina successfully making him forget about the world outside his chambers even if for a little while.

No, Sihtric shouldn’t crave her as much as he does, but if you asked him who his greatest love was, he would simply smile and say his heart belonged to his shadow lover.

Everyone's already talked about this but wow Optimus is portrayed so well!!! I love the dialogue when he describes Cybertron. Also love the pink backgrounds i some panels!! Anyway the interaction with him and Spike feels good and authentic. nice

The fight scenes. SO good to me, I think the art is super dynamic and the way the sound effects are written give great impact. The artist knew what they were doing for sure. I love how they use the comic media to its fullest. With those different shaped slanted box panels, and the smear lines when somethings moving fast idk

I also looove the shading in these comics!! and the linework like on their faces really helps the atmosphere. once again i love the sound effects (especially that big TONG) when starscream gets hit lol it just looks like all the fonts were designed or drawn by the artists yk?? and the variety of camera angles throughout is cool too.

Also love the relationship between optimus and the humans. It feels... better than how other transformers media has handled it (imo). I think its sweet

again great comic art the lighting.. the EVERYTHING idk i just admire this artist a lot (i think his name is daniel warren johnson, although it switches to Jorge Corona later) one thing i love in particular is how the lines are like... a little messy and sometimes a little all over the place-to depict their wear and grime. cool!

Next. Cant talk about skybound without talkingabout THE DECEPTICONS. oh my god. starscream is a spawn of hell. what a bitch. like actually he might be at his worst here hes so diabolical. Anyway even though hes very evil hes still enjoyable to watch because its just idk pure villain. Soundwaves care for his cassettes is sweet as usual. PUNTING Ravage is crazy. cannibalizing Skywarp is crazy. FGELP IDEK WHAT TO SAY except i like the art a lot here as usual its great very comic-y again. SOundwave stays a favorite character.

THIS is an iconic and great moment of skybound, i love it, i lvoe that optimus is willing to use this cannon to further the battle yk also looks badass

34. What’s something people get wrong about your favorite character?

Hmmm I hate hate hate when people act like Arya is this cold blooded sociopath assassin who hates everyone and kills without remorse etc etc she’s friends with everyone!! She gets sad over strangers!! She is merciful and struggles with the idea of becoming nobody because she’s a fugitive preteen who misses her mom and dad and siblings!!! Also ppl get things wrong ab Dany all the time it actually makes my blood boil…she is not a madwoman or incompetent ruler she’s fifteen!!! She’s a smart fifteen year old who’s carrying a dead empire on her back and makes mistakes because of it but that doesn’t mean her intentions aren’t good and she isn’t blind to the fact that she makes mistakes…Dany I will save you from ASOIAF TikTok and Reddit I promise

What would you say is your top 5 favorites in Storm Hawks? (BUT you can't use Stork XD)

Aww man, you caught me on the last word :'D I thought for a long time, trying to remember all the characters I like besides Stork, but it was even more difficult to put them in their places, cause I love them all equally. So be it, I will answer! 1. Radarr.

Number one on my list is the sky lemur, a comic-relief sidekick and just a funny character whose antics are so much interesting to watch. He's just a cute little fella, so assure you, he can safely be trusted with a firearm. Have to admit, but the show would have be much boring without Radarr (and I think he has a lot more dynamic with Stork than with Aerrow). 2. Master Cyclonis.

The supreme ruler of a matriarchal empire in the person of a cynical teenage girl? Give me two! I also really like her design — especially impressive is the idea of a hood that resembles the petals of a devil's daisy. At least, never seen anything like this in any media before. Well, now let me share my subjective opinion. Let's be honest: just because she's a lonely girl with no friends doesn't absolve her of responsibility for deliberately ravaging the terras for the empire's expansion (has anyone ever wondered about Finn's or Piper's terras?) and entertaining her people with brutal gladiatorial battles. Even if she had undergone a thorough introspection and returned from the other side of Atmos with the entire squadron, it was unlikely that anyone would have forgiven her. Also don't like the fact that in the eyes of some fans (don't speaking for everyone!) she is no more than Draco in leather pants, whose essential flaws no one tried to notice :( I understand that my opinion may seem very controversial, and you have every right to disagree with it. However, I still hold the thought that «loving a character does not mean justifying their actions». 3. Repton.

A badass, strong, fearless leader of the criminal squadron, who does not back down before any challenges, no matter how serious they may be. Admired the fact that Repton, as one of the most competent servants of the Empire, is not afraid to contradict Cyclonis herself and always remains true to his beliefs. I always assumed he called Stork a salamander cause of his cowardice and dodgy nature. Even after the merb had destroyed his entire squadron, Repton continued to treat him with the utmost prejudice and did not consider Stork a serious opponent. Based on the lore, it is logical to assume that the Raptors were raised with the idea that they are the most dominant species in all of Atmos, and all others must serve them or be conquered. I just think that's one of the few reasons he harbors a general dislike for all existing races :D 4. Merbian postmaster from episode "Scouts Honor".

Oh yes, my favorite trope — «a character who appears in a two-minute scene, says just one phrase, and manages to win your heart in half a minute». I've always wondered what his background might have been, and what he might have done besides his work. It seems to me that he is less emotional and more resistant to any stress than Stork. However, he may experience some social awkwardness in communication, and it is easy to confuse him with a couple of personal questions. Therefore, he prefers to use short and clear phrases, which makes his speech more meaningful than it really is. I've already drawn him once, but it's quite possible that I'll do it again. 5. Griffin.
