i just think more people need to remember u can draw your favs less conventionally attractive and it would subtract nothing from their character.. in fact it even makes them cooler. give them some acne and crooked teeth and a hooked nose and moles all over and eyebags. it adds so much charm and even if it doesn't (to you) that's fine because people aren't all meant to look like they walked fresh off a billboard

AU where 4th Wall takes a note out of "Constellation Who Likes to Change Gender's" playbook and instead of making KDJ's face blurry to protect his identity, it just gaslights everyone into seeing KDJ as a woman.

Imagine the KimCom shenanigans:

LHS can get pretty awkward/shy at times around KDJ because he's a "woman". Especially when he's naked after his death on the Night of the Prophets. KDJ is confused because LHS was only like this around girls in the novel, so he thinks it's strange that he's acting this way around him.

LGY initially addresses KDJ as "noona", but KDJ just corrects him by saying "hyung". And LGY is just like *shrug* "okay hyung." And neither of them ever brings up origin of the misunderstanding.

YSA is confused because she's been seeing KDJ clearly as a woman since the scenarios started. But for some reason half the time in her head she thinks of KDJ with "he/him" pronouns and can't figure out why. Until she becomes employed as a librarian anyway.

JHW is even more protective of this KDJ because he keeps drawing attention from unsavory men that he doesn't seem to understand the cause of (because he doesn't know everyone around him sees him as a female). JHW can't believe how unprepared KDJ always acts when this kind of harassment comes up. Honestly, it's like KDJ's never been a woman in a toxic work environment...

LJH keeps addressing KDJ as "ahjumma" and KDJ just thinks she is being a rude, moody teenage. But she does show more outward favor toward KDJ in this AU because, by her own admission, she is "weak for cool older unnies."

SYS is like LGY and LJH where she calls KDJ "ahjumma", KDJ corrects her with "hyung", and she compromises with "ahjussi". At this point KDJ is starting to get suspicious why every new person he meets addresses him with female pronouns at their first meeting.

When HSY is asked by KDJ about his looks. She says somewhat sarcastically, not really understanding the root cause of the question, that he is a "pretty woman". KDJ is devastated by this blow to his manly self-esteem.

YJH is a little less in denial about his feelings for KDJ in this AU because he doesn't have the initial "this is another man" hang up. But he will have that crisis about it later, after having already admitting his feelings to himself, when KDJ is finally able to clear up the misunderstanding with KimCom.

JHY accepts everything just fine, but she does think KDJ is a huge hypocrite for messing up her pronouns when he's always correcting people about his.

Additional Note: Before KimCom (& KDJ) figure out there's been some kind of miscommunication about KDJ's gender, there's multiple instances where he's with just the women of the group and they all start talking about "forbidden woman topics" (periods, people they think are attractive, bras, etc.) and KDJ is sweating bullets wondering why he's always being singled out as the only guy to be included in these kinds of discussions.

tbh I'm so happy there is no explicit romance in orv (minus the brief stuff that happens with jhw and lhs) and because of that I feel like I've been able to appreciate kdj in such a profound way as a character

like sure i like joongdok and yoohankim but to me at least kdj has this level of asexuality to him that I don't usually associate him with anyone that romantically. And their relationships are still as complex and has such a great depth that they are like THE foundest of families and I can return to the kim dokja company at the end of the day as all of them being my comfort characters. you know that saying like 'i love you so much i'd make the world burn for you'? it's meant to be this dramatic line about how much you love someone (romantically), but kdj's company fully encapsulates this in a platonic way that just isn't cringey or anything like that

they are all so platonic but they love each other to such an unconditional way that they ALL decide to relive through all the scenarios again in the hope of finding kim dokja again. and later, they all help to write and spread a story - stories, the thing the reader loves - again, in hopes of bringing kdj back home. they aren't sure if it'll work, but it is through this love they all have that they don't give up and put their hope in this seemingly impossible method

and this is also what makes them fundamentally different from kdj. unlike kim dokja in the apocalypse, they do not have any sort of proof their methods will work. kdj has twsa - the novel he grew up reading, the novel he fantasized living in, the novel that he's spent 13 years following, learning every nook and cranny and probably even planning out his own way to survive the apocalypse from this lengthy novel. he has some sort of assurance his methods will work, with the amount of time hsy put into describing the settings (remember that twsa was not popular and one of the complaints was that tls123 put too much emphasis on the settings that deterred people from reading it, when really, that too was a way to ensure kdj survived the apocalypse later on). he has had time to reassure himself and plan for it, and probably had yjh case test them all

but kdj's company had no assurance - they did not grow up with a book that confirmed their methods of bringing kdj back would work. they did not have any 'third plans', no 'ressurections', no 'restarts', that kdj had in the apocalypse. all they had was their own hope - something kdj didn't have when he was fifteen sitting in that hospital bed after that failed suicide attempt, feeling like the whole world was against him. Until he searched up those three words on his phone. Those three words that were probably 'Ways of Survival'.

And then he found his hope in twsa. he found his hope in yjh, the protagonist made just for him. he found hope in the story that he believed in for the next thirteen years. the story that got him through high school, the CSATs, the military. his hope was in this tangible book that carried him through the apocalypse.

kdj's company had none of that. they only had their hope in kim dokja - the man they survived the scenarios with. they could only put their hope in their memories of surviving with the man that saved them, even though there was no evidence he lived in their world anymore. they had to put their hope in the fact that they remembered he existed, even though they had to acknowledge that they didn't know everything about him.

sing shong touches upon this idea a lot throughout orv - does something really exist if no one knows about it? or, in a more modern saying, did a fallen tree in a forest really fall if no one heard it? what proves the existence of something? what proves that something truly happened? sing shong seems to make it pretty clear that the existence of something can be represented metaphorically like a 'story', and stories need a 'reader', some sort of spectator that witnesses it, for the 'story' to exist.

for kim dokja, his final sacrifice, where he split into infinite little pieces scattered across the universe, was to ensure that everything existed. that open ending, as tragic as it was, was meant to be comforting. that his sacrifice was supposed to be so existences like you and me, are real. no matter how lonely we may feel throughout our lives, a metaphorical 'kim dokja' is looking at our own stories, spectating our own stories, even living our own lives himself.

and what i hate to say sometimes is that kim dokja is not really a character - he is an idea. he is an idea of some being affirming our lives, that it's real, that what we do from day to day, even something as simple as getting up in the mornings and brushing your teeth, or thumbing through a store catalog, matters. and this is why kim dokja sacrificed himself. for all the stories that may have not 'existed' if no one was watching it.

and it's out of love. this tragic, terrible love for the world, that eats away at yourself until you are nothing. but at least you exist.

He and ysh got married for tax purposes.  He and Hsy say they got married for tax purposes and will never admit to anyone including themselves and each other that they are in love.  Jhw married him to force him to make her his emergency contact.  lhs and kdj got married while drunk cause kdj couldn’t stop spiraling and it made lhs too sad.  Yjh asked kdj to marry him and kdj entered a dissociative state and said nothing, which yjh took as a yes and just did the license without involving kdj which means he has no idea and still thinks it was a joke.

Colorblind

Imagine both kdj and yjh are red-green color blind and one day hsy tries to put bright red lipstick on kdj and he’s like

“BUT I DONT WANT BROWN LIPS” and everyone is just like

“wut?” And he gets really confused.

Then Ysa is like

“Dokja-ssi, the lipstick is red…” and kdj is like

“no it’s not” and jhw is like

“wait, are you colorblind?” And kdj is like “No?”

And then yjh walks in and is like

“what’s wrong?” Cause everyone is just silently pondering kdj’s color blindness. Then kdj says

“Yoo Junghyuk-ah, Han Sooyeong’s lipstick is brown right?” And yjh is like

“yeah?” And all of Kimcom (the name for kdj’s group) is internally like “OMFG THEY’RE BOTH COLORBLINDDDD”

Squid and Sunfish

Once upon a time, there was a little squid. The squid had no purpose in life, so it just drifted along with the current.

Until one day, it came across a sunfish. Strange, thought the squid. Usually sunfish don’t come down this deep.

He asked the sunfish what it was doing in the deep ocean. To which the sunfish replied

“I’m looking for a companion.”

The squid was confused. The only one this deep for miles was him.

He looked the sunfish up and down. Surely this guy wasn’t looking for him?

“Well there’s nobody else here but me,” said the squid.

“That’s fine,” said the sunfish.

The squid blinked. Did this stupid sunfish really not get it? He was a loser with no life! Why would this guys want /him/ as a companion.

The sunfish noticed the squid’s distress.

“If you don’t want a companion, there’s nothing I can do,” He said flatly.

As the sunfish swan away, the squid felt an aching in its heart. He realized, he didn’t want the sunfish to leave!

“Wait,” said the squid. The sunfish stopped.

“If you really aren’t bothered, I’ll be your companion.”

The squid couldn’t believe the words coming out of his mouth. Him someone’s companion? Really? The sunfish turned around and smirked.

That annoying way sunfish do. “Knew it.” He said. And from then on. They lived as companions.

Department story YJH

What if Joongdok AU where Yoo Junghyuk works at A department store and Kim Dokja comes in as a single dad who has to fix his door handle. Except he has no clue how and has no mechanical knowledge.

When Yjh saw a man walk in with a little girl holding his hand he thought--nothing of it. People bring their kids places all the time. But when the man seemingly walked through every isle in a lost manner for what felt like hours, Yjh thought it might be time to step in.

Usually he’d let one of his coworkers handle helping costumers since he-- hated when people went to department stores not knowing what they needed.

Alas, it was a busy day and all of the other employees were helping equally lost customers.

Yjh approached the man when he heard the little girl say

“daddy, why don’t you just ask for help?”--To which the man replied,

“don’t worry sweetie daddy knows what he’s doing…” and went back to looking at shelves that clearly didn’t house what he needed.

“Can I help you with anything?” Said Yjh almost startling the man.

He noticed the small girl staring at her father clearly--waiting to see his response.

“Ah, yes… well… could you point me in the direction of the doorknobs?” Said the man.

Yjh had to hold in his sigh. Only because he had seen the man pass the doorknobs twice in his search.

“Right this way.” He said in the most polite voice he could--muster. He lead the man a couple of isles down.

“Thank you.” Said the man gratefully.

Yjh simply nodded and went back to walking around.

20 minutes later he happened to walk by the isle again, and to his complete and utter shock, the man was still standing there. Yjh walked up--to the man and asked him what the problem was.

“Oh haha, it’s just that… I don’t seem to know what doorknob I need….” The man let out an embarrassed chuckle.

Yjh had just about had it with him. Really, the amount of stress this man was causing him was unnatural.

Yjh tried asking him which model he currently had or if he needed a knew one. The man said he just needed to fix his old one but beyond that he just pretended to ponder. Yjh asked if he had a picture of his old one to which the man said

“ohhhh that’s what I forgot!” At that--Yjh snapped.

He quickly offered to buy one of each kind of doorknob for the man and personally come to his house and instal the one he needed. The man simply seemed taken aback by the offer and the forwardness.

Of course, who wouldn’t with an offer like that. They exchanged--numbers and the man introduced himself as Kim Dokja. Once he finally left, Yjh’s shift was over.

Yjh realized this man had been in the store for a total of 2 hours. As well as that, he had only been looking for a doorknob. A DOORKNOB FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Yjh took an angry shower and went straight to bed.

The next morning he went into work and after his shift bought exactly what he said he would. When his coworker Hsy asked what he was doing he ranted about the situation to her.

“Wow, you’re down bad” she joked to which Yjh replied to by walking--to his car and driving away.

He texted Kdj and got his address. When he arrived he rang the doorbell. For a while nobody answered. He was getting annoyed because Kdj had told him he was home over text. Then he heard a door open from the back and the sound of rickety wood.

He-turned towards the sound to see Kdj with a tree beach in his hair.

“Hey, sorry about that. The front doorknob is the one that’s broken so we can’t get in and out of it,” he explained.

Yjh felt a pang of pity for this poor man. Kdj gave him permission to forcefully pull-the door open to fix the knob. He did so without much of a struggle. When he saw the state the doorknob was in he wondered how Kdj could’ve let it get this bad.

He wondered how many times he had jammed the door in and out before it got so bad he just couldn’t anymore.

He fixed the doorknob, and when he went to leave Kdj stopped him.

“You know, you could stay and have dinner. It’s the least we can do for all the help you’ve given us.” He paused. “Even if it was out of spite,” he added.

Yjh’s ears went red. Had his reaction really been so obviously out--of frustration?

“You don’t have to though,” said Kdj when he saw Yjh’s hesitation. “No, I accept,” said Yjh curtly.

When he sat down and tried the food, safe to say, he was thoroughly disappointed. Along with knowing nothing of mechanics, he also could barely cook? Yjh’s pea-sized brain saw this as an obvious cry for help and he offered to cook for Kdj every weekend. Kdj at first said know but Yjh was very adamant about it.

Finally Kdj agreed out of the guise that he wanted his daughter Byoo to have better food. In reality he was touched that Yjh-would want to help so bad.

Fast forward a couple months and Yjh asks Kdj to go out.

Somehow, unknown to even Yjh himself, he had fallen for the man who he had met lost in a department store. Kdj agreed and they became boyfriends.

End

Shoe on the other foot

Joongdok Idea that Kdj has really Small feet and Yjh has normal/large feet and as a scenario penalty they have to swap shoes.

So while they’re fighting Kdj has to deal with big boots that keep slipping off and he keeps tripping and falling.

And on the other hand Yjh can’t feel his toes but at the same time is in constant pain.

Not to mention Kdj wears dress shoes so Yjh is having even more fun.

By the end of it Yjh just gets tired of Kdj faking so he just Carries him.

Pillows

What if Joongdok crack au where Kdj keeps buying decorative pillows and Yjh is losing his sitting spots

Yjh tries to sit on the couch but falls to the ground because there’s too many pillows on the couch.

Kdj: oh sorry let me move those^^

He throws them on an already humongous pile of other decorative pillows.

Yjh: why do you need so many??

Kdj: They make the house look nice

Yjh takes a look around the room and there’s piles and piles of pillows everywhere.

He gives Kdj a look of exasperation.

Kdj: well maybe we can put some in storage?

(I imagine this is on some kind of reality tv show and there’s a camera)

The camera cuts to Yjh gesturing violently to the tons of pillows in storage already.

Kdj: huh…

Then the scene switches to their bedroom and Yjh’s side of the bed is covered in pillows.

The camera cuts to one of those interview scenes

Yjh: I have 10% bed space left… I did the math

By the end of it they get Kdj help and he agrees to get rid of most of the pillows, begrudgingly. And Yjh can finally sit in his own house again.

The end scene is Yjh sitting in a couch and just smiling.

Pizza Hut vs Domnioes

Pizza Hut vs Domino’s but make it Joongdok

When lgy and sys decided to make the Domino’s and Pizza Hut in their local town call each other, they weren’t expecting it to blow up this much.

Or even in fact, kickstart a relationship It started as any other harmless little prank by kids would.

They grabbed two phones and had dialed the the two stores on them.

They snickered uncontrollably as the phones rang.

“Shhhhh- haha, shhhhhhhh” said lgy trying to contain his laughter.

“I know, I know,” sys was having an even harder time.

Brrrrr brrrrr brrrr.

“Hello? This is Pizza Hut what can I do for you?”

And

“Hello this is Dominos, what would you like”

Two men’s voices could be heard from the phones.

“What?” They both said in unison.

“This is dominos, you wanted to order a pizza?” Said the deeper gruffer voice.

“If I ordered something from you it definitely wouldn’t be pizza, heck, I’d be weary of a soda from you guys!” Said the other voice.

The other phone went silent. Then,

“Well that’s too bad cause that means you’re stuck with the stuff you people make… yeesh.”The other voice let out an obviously exaggerated gasp.

“How dare you? You know what, where’s your store??”

“123 west rd, and what’s /yours/“

Sys and lgy were dying laughing at this point, they had to go to the corner of the room.

“246 North st!” The other voice said harshly.

“You know what?” It continued, “meet me at 135 south blvd, I dare you!”

“We’ll get ready to be defeated!” Announced the other.

Then both calls hung up. Sys and lgy were silent for a momen before running into the other room.

“HSY!! CAN YOU DRIVE US TI 135 BLVD?? WE WANT TO SEE TWO GROWN MEN FIGHT!!” They said, in unison to the author who was trying to get her work done, now unsuccessfuly. Hsy looked at them seemingly to debate the pros and cons of granting their request.

However it wasn’t long before she gave in to her need to see grown men being idiots and she found herself driving. When they got there the pulled into a parking lot.

Nobody was there at first but then two men showed up.

One was a very plain looking man in a black button up and a Pizza Hut apron.

The other a very handsome man in a Dominos Apron.

“So you’re the apparently handsome man who thinks Domino’s sells pizza!” Shouted the plain looking one from about 20 ft away from the other.

“What do you mean, ‘sells pizza’ THATS WHAT WERE KNOWN FOR!” Bellowed the other from the same distance. “I wouldn’t call what you’re known for /pizza/!” The scrawny man taunted.

The handsomer man opened his mouth to reply but then paused.

“You- wait did you call me handsome earlier?” He asked befuddled.

The latter’s face went beet red. “W-well, yeah! Who wouldn’t,” he stuttered.”

The taller man seemed the think for a moment before stating,

“If you come to Domino’s we… /I/ could treat you a lot better than those guys at Pizza Hut.”

The other man seemed to short circuit for a moment. “B-but nobody out pizzas the Hut!” He said in a last ditch attempt to save his already fleeting dignity.

“Bet,” responded the other who then smirked devilishly.

Meanwhile lgy and sys were fighting over the left back window of the car for better view than the other. Hsy was simply enjoying the scene from the driver’s seat. They had their windows cracked slightly as to hear what was being said.

“10 bucks says they go out,” announced Hsy suddenly.

“I’ll take that bet! No way they’d go out!” Said Lgy. “Yeah! If you heard them on the phones you’d know!” Boasted Sys.

“We’ll just see,” mused Hsy.

Meanwhile in the parking lot, the men were at a standstill.

“What’s your name?” Said the skinnier man.

“Yjh, and yours?”

“Kdj”

“Well Kdj, you wanna come to the better pizza store and earn a date with me?” Said Yjh confidently.

Kdj let out a small “sure” and walked away.

Unfortunately he was so far away Yjh didn’t hear him.

“Well?!” He shouted

“I SAID SURE!” Kdj shouted back.

“GREAT! SEE YOU AT THE DOMINO’S BUILDING THIS SATURDAY”

“SEE YOU THEN!”

And just like that Lgy and Sys had orchestrated one of the best and most entertaining events of their little town.

Briefly taking a break from mourning the end of the 73rd Demon Realm to appreciate Sing-Shong's use of pov in storytelling. KDJ's 'death' somehow hit harder/different at the hands of the outer god when seen from Jung Heewon's perspective and I realized, that despite him dying multiple times so far and despite reading about his companions' pain during those times, I didn't feel a trauma of this level because I was still reading through KDJ's perspective. He always has a card up his sleeve and getting an in into his mind eases some tension for me as a reader. The third floor of the demon castle was particularly stressful because 1) it hadn't appeared in the TWSA that KDJ had read so we couldn't be so sure of what he was gonna do, 2) 'Fate' was built up to be this inevitable thing that despite believing KDJ would have something up his sleeve, it was mostly unknown as to what would happen when Fate gets realized. I felt a dread of the unknown and pain for the people KDJ was leaving behind.

With the Outer God moving in to devour the 73rd Realm and reading it through Jung Heewon's perspective, I genuinely felt trauma. Despite there being foreshadowing of what he would do, I was genuinely not sure if KDJ did have anything up his sleeve this time. And this strong, even footing that reading from KDJ's pov had provided me so far was turned into a bumpy ride in a just a few chapters with HSY's pov of her nightmares and LSY's fortune telling, Breaking the Sky Sword Saint and Kyrgios' pov of their inability as transcendents to deal with the Outer God, and finally, the nail in the coffin was JHW's pov that really conveyed the helplessness Kimcom feels every single time KDJ chooses to sacrifice himself alone. It's never 'Oh he's dying again, he'll probably come back. Get used to it'. It's experiencing the death of a dear friend right in front of your eyes again and again and again in excruciating ways. And each time you think, "I'll save him next time" or "I'll be there to die with him next time" or "I'll protect him so that he never has to do it again" and each time that chance is robbed from you as you helplessly watch him die and leave you behind. That trauma adds up and it scars, you never get used to it and JHW's pov conveys that impeccably.

Then we flip back to KDJ's perspective and Secretive Plotter asking him about all the worlds he couldn't save. And KDJ meeting 1863rd round YJH and recalling his middle school years and making notes in the back of his notebook about how he would change YJH's story if TWSA became real and then realizing 1863rd YJH would be hopeless. KDJ also helplessly watched/read/experienced as YJH died and lived countless lives. He didn't have the luxury of thinking "I'll save him next time" or "I'll be there to die with him next time" or "I'll protect him so that he never has to do it again" because YJH was a fictional character and a "Fourth Wall" (heh) does protect him from that level of excessive immersion as a reader. But now that TWSA is very very real KDJ can save him, protect him, die with him, etc. But in the course of it all, he makes his friends, including YJH, experience all the pain and trauma of seeing their friend die time and time again while he continues to save YJH the pain of countless deaths.

Really masterful sequences of pov switching to build this broader picture of KDJ's sacrifice and what it means.

After TWS and retrieving the ugly squid when everyone’s all together again and the world is back in one piece. I feel like YJH would get chubby, hear me out bros fully a gamer besides literally being forced into an apocalypse and getting the body builder physique because he’s likely always slightly dehydrated and hungry with how much he’s burning off. So once everything calms down yeah he’s still very healthy cause he probably knows from beforehand how having too much weight can be a burden on daily life but I definitely think he would put on some chub. If only because his body would be so used to burning at extreme rates that he gets super hungry after the apocalypse. Like that learning curve year or even up to 3 after, the entirely of KimCo would have a hard to adjusting to how their bodies are doing out of fight or flight mode.

YJH would just take a pretty big hit from adjusting to being human again and not a fighter. Something something long explaination on society but Yoo Sangah and Jung Heewon would have an easier time adjusting, but Han Sooyoung wouldn’t give a shit. She’d let her body absolutely fail and crash until she gets put into the same group as the kids with supervised meal plans and fitness routines that’ll ease their body from full survival mode back into leisure exercise. I’m talking HSY would absolutely forget to drink water one day after a nap, everyone’s bodies would be used to retaining water and food on nothing, to where she eventually passed out in the YSH’s kitchen and nearly killed her and JHW via heart attack. YJH is also in that boat with her but not quite as bad, he’d just be flipping around from too much to neglecting his body until he found proper balance by joining everyone’s Apocalypse Recovery Routine (named by Lee Hyunsung). YJH took over cooking and meal prepping because he was already making Yoo Mia’s stuff and claimed it wouldn’t be any more effort. Lee Hyunsung is also one of the only people who easily rebalanced their body to daily life again.

1863 YJH looks like an absolute tank. He still has the same amount of muscle mass he’s just getting in a proper diet now and balancing everything out. He’d be so paranoid afterwards that he’d never let himself not be in top fighting and survival shape at all times, he gets a recruitment once a month for basically every type of sport. Besides keeping his muscle tone up I feel like he’d go for the most mundane job possible afterwards and be an office worker (and totally not for any other reason), but he’d still game on his off days while his preferences changed to comfy games, anything without fighting and survival. If he does however he always gets hyper fixates until he’s strong enough to clear everything, I’m talking exp farm and grinding til he can beat the enderdragon in one hit. He’d also be super popular online though not by his own volition. People will be people and he’d find himself online from pictures of him in public or at the gym posted by others, every work out one gets reported to staff immediately.

sangsoo; the ever sweet ysa took one look at hsy and decided that she Does Not Like Her. hsy took one look at her and thought that she will ruin ysa's entire career. roommates. hsy was willing to make an outer god pledge for her

seolsoo; the doctor and the writer!! their post epilogue dynamic is endless and beyond wholesome. hsy sliding in lsh's dms like "hey so if this character is stabbed and pulls the knife out will they immediately bleed out or??" and lsh replies with paragraphs upon paragraphs, not-so-subtly dropping judgmental hints cuz why is she hurting her characters like this. dms soon turn to coffee dates then they start dating fr etc etc etc. endless possibilities as i said

[orv spoilers]

for most of orv, kdj fundamentally believes that he does not deserve love nor that his selfworth was greater than the survival of his companions.

he was forged in boyhood with a mother who hurt him for the sake of her love for him. his foundational years instrumentally shaped his perception on what is love - on what someone who loves does for the one they love, on the one-sided sacrifice of love. his mother's actions were so fundamental on his perception of love that it was forever changed after her sacrifice, becoming the core of who he was as a person. not only that but his mother's sacrifice had also probably been the last act of love he knowingly received for a long, long time until the scenarios began. kdj, a lonely existence who went through school, college and work at arms length away from others, who grew up on books and his protagonist and bore only pain from other human beings, grew up to possess a selfish expression love and the ideal of unconditional self sacrifice. for kdj, love was pain and sacrifice and the person you love will end up hating you.

and, thus, his acts of love become acts of violence towards himself and unknowingly violence towards the bonds he has created with others. his lack of selfworth and selflove, his harmful understanding of love, hurts the companion he leaves behind in sacrifice much like his mother had done to him.

which makes it all the more heartbreaking when, in the war between good and evil, he wants to live. wants to stay. wants to be saved. wants believe in the love of his companions. wants to believe in his own self worth. and so he asks yjh, hsy and jhw to rescue him, reaches his hand out to his loved ones and he finally, finally goes "please save me".

but this all breaks apart. later, when the doors to the train doors open and he is confronted with OD and all the underlying suspicions (self-hatred) he had so far are reaffirmed, everything shatters. any sense of self-love he might of had collapses at the sight of his "sin" and he is broken down into the character he believes himself to be: an unlovable and unforgivable being.

he leaves behind 49% of everything he believes the others love, the best parts of himself, the part he believes they would love only. and what are these parts? his memories together with them, not the one who read wos, not the one who hates tomatoes, not the one who survived on his own, hurt and lonely. the best parts of himself were the ones he had with the others, of their time together. (because who would love whats left in the 51%? they dont even know those parts after all.)

but he's wrong of course. kimcom loves him, loves the idiot who hates tomatoes, who could only live because he read a crappy webnovel, the one with a shitty way of speaking, and had starry eyes that sparkled. they love him. and they wrote all of that love into ORV.

which is why im going insane cause if you want a happy post-epilogue for orv, this only happens because kdj (and in turn the small % in every reader) wants to be saved, wants to be happy, knows that he (and us) deserves to be saved, to live and to be happy to be able to truly, wholeheartedly imagine and want for his story to continue. and kdj has to know that he is loved, entirely.
