Thinking more about Burdock Everdeen and Suzanne Collins’ seeming inability to write anything other than lover boys.

Like I can’t get over the fact that he definitely talked to his friends about Asterid and was probably endlessly teased for falling for a girl he seemingly had no chance with. Like this boy pined hard and loud. I’m just picturing him listening very intently to Asterid talking about medicinal plants and then going out and finding some to bring back. He acts like it was no big deal and they just happened to stumble upon them when really he kept Haymitch and Blair out extra late because “Asterid said they were running low” meanwhile they’re sharing a knowing look. Like I love the idea of Burdock so being the type to find an excuse to bring up Asterid in every conversation for a time.

Asterid is lucky af imagine having a hot archer bf who sings like an angel, hangs out in the forest + easily connects to animals like he's a mf Disney Princess, brings you gifts from said forest, treats his daughters like queens, and loves you unconditionally. I'd ditch whatever privileged life I had for him, too.

i used to have a headcanon that asterid probably had her first major depressive episode after maysilee died. something alike the one she had after burdock died. but i think i see it a bit differently now. i definitely think depression is something she struggled with her whole life, but based on her character in sotr i feel like she spent most of her life trying to run away from it. finding other things to occupy her mind. probably why she likes being a nurse. because when it's about someone else it's easy to be on autopilot. and especially because of this comment from katniss in cf: when a sick or dying person is brought to her... this is the only time i think my mother knows who she is. so i see her being very emotionally closed off and very guarded. and when maysilee dies she keeps going, there's still a fog and this awful numbness but she keeps pushing through it.

untill burdock and her grow close and he becomes someone who allows her to feel or yell or scream. and it's not perfect really, she finds it really hard to let it all out and i certainly don't imagine a place like D12 could ever allow you to properly grieve anything you lost, but he feels like home in a way her parents house never did and she leaves everything behind because he's worth it. and they build a fairytale life together until it collapses, until he dies and now this sadness that has been following her her whole life envelopes her. her lifelong grief, of the world she lives in, of her best friend dying, of her other best friend never being the same, of her parents disowning her, finally catches up to her. that's how i see it now. that she couldn't bury it now or put her head onto burdock's chest and cry. that's why it was all unbearable.
