Mentioned this before but as much as I adore the medic Leo headcanon, my favorite type of it is when it’s basically just Leo knowing the most surface level of stuff and carrying around a super basic first-aid kit in his pack. So he knows how to use gauze, and he’s got a ton of Jupiter Jim branded bandaids, and if you really needed it then he can hit you up with some ibuprofen but other than that? Nothing.

But. I love the idea that that changes post-invasion.

They’re pretty sturdy, all of them, so they can take more than one beating and really only need a bandaid for the fun of it. But the invasion hit harder than ice packs and “lots of rest” would help with, and I can bet that a post being beaten to a pulp Leo would have a lot of time on his hands to reflect and, maybe, learn a thing or two as he waits to get better.

It’s nothing excessive, not at first, but he watches veterinary videos, and live surgeries, and other videos in that same realm (because the books are, uh, a bit too jargon-y for him) multiple times over. Just so he knows. Just in case he needs to know.

In his pack, there’s a first-aid kit. With the use of a mini portal for extra space, the kit has grown to include everything from scalpels to butterfly stitches to sutures to even fiberglass patches.

And obviously the Jupiter Jim brand bandaids stay too.

TMNT (2012/IDW) Leonardo Weapon Re-Design

So, I went to a small exhibition on Edo-Period Japan, and it had a lot stuff on Samarai armour and weaponry - the assistant info dumped on me, it was fantastic. And all my nerd ass could think about was TMNT 💀 And I kept thinking about it. So I made a re-design for Leo's weaponry. Details under the cut!

...Leonardo is a Daisho wielder, or he uses a pair of swords, one a Daito and the other a Shoto. (As much as the creators would like to convince me those swords are proper Katana/Wakizashi, those are the straightest curves I've ever seen. ) There will be some slight changes between the two swords.

I think it'd be made of Blackened Steel and Silver, and it'd be the same for both swords. The Kogatana would be a handcrafted item Leo added to the Wakizashi. I think he'd be very interested in crafting his own swords in the future, and he probably did after Splinter died. But for now, I think a small little utility knife with his name carved into the hilt (in hiragana) and some choppy engravings of what ever he thought was cool into the blade is something he'd do. This means the Katana's Tsuba would only have a singular hole for the blade. The Tanto, (unusually) located in the hilt of the Katana, maybe a concept unique to the Hamato Clan.

On both swords I think they'd be gold and paired with white Tsuka Ito (hilt wrappings) to match his hand wraps, with a black Samegawe (a ray skin underneath the Tsuka Ito). Leo goes through a lot of moral dilemmas in IDW and I think the gift from his father eventually being stained red in blood would be a cool design change/concept. ⤵

Also a design note that like the Menuki, the Tsuka Ito would need to be wrapped slightly different due to the change in hands. The diamond shape usually seen on the hilts is to be a rough indication of finger positions, two larger fingers rather than four smaller ones would require a more dispersed wrapping.

The headcanon that Leo names his swords is GREAT! My own personal take is that Leo would go for Japanese names because he really tries his hardest to be like his father. The Katana is called Meirei (めいれい) which means command/order, and the Wakizashi, Yaritogeto (やりとげる), meaning follow through. (Probably. I used Jisho Dictionary, please don't take my word for it.)

Basically, Meirei is a representation of Splinter - and Yaritogeto, the turtles. I think each name would be engraved in the blade in Hiragana.

Anyway... sword brain-rot... 😨

I might do the other turtles as well. At some point. And I will probably draw the Kogatana with all it's little imperfections too.

It was in their first week on the surface when Yoshi realized it. The entire process had been pretty rough, but today had been particularly rough, and as he stared down the barrel of the daunting task of preparing dinner for his four children, he quickly found himself overwhelmed. A thread of panic beginning to light through him as he struggled to figure out how he was going to manage to feed his children tonight. He was just so exhausted.

And then he had a very sudden epiphany. 

He… didn’t have to make anything.

There was literally nothing stopping him from just… ordering delivery. 

It had been so long, he had almost forgotten that that was something that a person could do. He had almost forgotten that there were other people in the world that he could rely on for some things.

And suddenly, a tiny bit of the crushing weight of keeping four small children alive lifted ever so slightly from his shoulders. And before he knew it there were tears on his face.

“Guys!” Mikey squeaked, rushing from the kitchen back into the living room to rejoin his brothers, with absolute stars in his eyes.

“What is it, Mikey?” Raph questioned, looking up from the board game Donnie was attempting to teach them to play. They had never had so many toys in their lives before, and they were all eager to try them all out.

“Daddy said we’re gonna order pizza a'night!” Mikey enthused, his eyes wide as he skidded to a stop. His brothers blinked at him, and Leo tilted his head in confusion.

“...So?” They had been having lots of new foods lately. What was so exciting about this one?

“He’s so excited about it, he’s crying!” Mikey exclaimed. “So it must be really, really, really good! Probably the bestest food in the entire world!”

My favorite reading of Leo’s “indubitably” tell is that it’s not actually a tell, and Leo just plays it up as one so he doesn’t get called out when he really wants to hide something.

Especially since throughout the series we see him lie and trick multiple times without saying the word once.

I like to think that one time when they were kids Leo happened to learn the word “indubitably” and because he tends to repeat new words he learns, he ended up using it at the same time as he was caught lying. He uses the word again later in another lie, and that’s where the association comes from.

OR- counter argument: “indubitably” is one of his tells, but only for unimportant things, especially when said to family. Long plays, particularly ones with villains, are in a different category in his head.
