Summary: Calebs spell required a delicate component he had scoffed when he first read. Doubting his translation, he cast Languages again, but the inkbled scrawl read the same. âHeart of a faeâ. Literal or figurative, he almost did not care. He would seize both to be sure.

@longlivedelusion askfkdfg I'm so sorry!! if it helps, I imagine Caleb comforting King after that. The two of them holding each other until all the nightmares bleed away--
thinking of...quiet lonely nights, when Kingsley wakes from too many haunting dreams, shaken by old memories and aching longing, reaching out to Caleb because he needs to feel something--anything but Empty. Tealeaf with too many bleeding lives, too many words left unsaid. Softly begging for Caleb to kiss him like he's still Molly, like nothing's changed--

Hmm⌠because Iâm curious and wish to encourage violence⌠13 and 23.
13. worst blorboficiation
Man, this is a toss up between Molly and Essek.
Molly was not a good person. Molly was unaligned and dipped into callousness. I truly mean that, Molly was cruel at times. Mollyâs first instinct was to resort to violence to snap Caleb out of a stupor, even though it was followed up by a forehead kiss that most of his fans romanticize. He wanted to abandon Kiri as quickly as possible. He didnât want to help the Schuester kids in Hupperdook until Fjord piped up that it was personal to him. Like, I eventually came around to liking Molly because that is a very daring character choice by Taliesin. Molly was a problematic queer, not because his queerness had anything to do with his bad traits, but because he wasnât a saint, and that took guts to portray queer characters in a negative light given this audience. Then Molly got martyred and all that complexity was ignored. Now heâs just a soft blorbo.
Essek also isnât a soft cushy boy. He did not care who got killed or hurt as long as he could do the research he wanted to. He did not care for anyone but himself. Those were choices. He didnât hesitate to hurt or kill people, he just got nervous when he realized he was in situations where opponents could strike back. He cowered when he realized he was vulnerable. It took time for him to choose to take risks like that, to trust people when he wasnât trusted, and he grew because of it. But a lot of shadowgast fans insist that Essek fell in love with Caleb during the stream or even immediately upon meeting, which, like, no. I think Essek was clearly hoping for friendship from Caleb and the Nein by E141, but I donât think that had developed into anything romantic or sexual by then. But most portrayals of Essek are nervous, demure, and shy without the cutting, dry sarcasm that I love.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
Widomauk and Shadowidomauk. I know thatâs surprising given the above answers, but here goes:
Generally, I am not much of a shipper. I tend to crackship for the lolz, especially when the ship is guaranteed to crash and burn. I am a fan of conflict. Because of that, those two ships didnât appeal to me because most fan writers and artists tend to depict them as very soft, domestic, tame, etc. Thatâs not a dig on other people who enjoy that, it just doesnât appeal to me all that much.
Then I learned the evil AU versions exist, and it hit me: they donât even have to be in an evil AU to butt heads. They absolutely would have some conflict built in because of how Calebâs background collides against Mollyâs worldview and Essekâs hangups. There is so much potential for explosive drama and pain. THEY COULD BE TERRIBLE FOR EACH OTHER.
And sure, you could have them kiss and make up after, but I want the conflict first.
Choose violence ask game.

GUESS WHO FINISHED
we got THE mist upon the hill by @ereborslionheart, a Widomauk fanfic where soulmates share their scars, and Caleb is the unfortunate damsel who has to bear through Mollyâs recklessness. Dont let my summary fool you though, this fic is brutal and wonderfully angsty
Production rant under the cut :3
The cover is made of 100% genuine leather (according to the tag on the purse i bought at goodwill) and is embroidered with the colors of Mollyâ jacket. The back embroidery is meant to mimic his tattoos, because of the whole soulmate thing involving skin.
The leatherbound book and the fire colored headbands were my nod to Caleb. (Plus, if you think of it, how fitting is it to have something of Calebâs be covered in symbolâs of Molly) If im being honest, my first idea was to paint acrylic scars on the leather, but that pales in comparison to what i landed on.
Im really proud of the typesetting too, Iâve definitely improved since my last bind. (The fic is maybe 10k words longer, but literally almost the exact same size. Thats how much the margins improved)
AND i added a fan poem i wrote for the fic like 3 years ago for an english class. It was âwrite a poem about a book or piece of mediaâ or smth. Ironically, the teacher accused me of plagiarism bc i put the name of the fanfic by it. I had to inform her that no, the fanfic in question is 70,731 words, my poem is about it, not directly it. Good poem tho, im still proud of it, and i figured itd make the beginning of the book feel more real.
I also put Devon Rueâs map in, specifically centered around where theyâre running around in the book, which just simplifies to the Dwendalian empire.
I definitely couldve been more careful with my glue job, and the corners are gonna need protectors eventually bc i didnt cut them right, but overall i am really proud of this.
Hopefully by next book im using printed covers though because i dont know how many more custom fabric covers i have in me. I love them but my god are they tedious to make.
#(book) binding journey#book binding#fanbinding#widomauk#typesetting and then folding and sewing the textblock are definitely my two favorite steps of this process#once the glue gets involved its messy and i gotta wait around a lot#and that embroidery took foreverrrrrrr

Thinking about a long slow burn of widomauk where Molly, who loves to help people, who lives to help people, is determined to help Caleb get through what's hurting him. Sure there's romantic interest, but Molly's not helping him because he wants to eventually get with him, he's doing it because he finds joy in seeing people become better versions of themselves.
The attraction is just a bonus, and one that he reels in all the time because the most important thing about travelling with the Nein isn't what Molly gets out of it, it's what everyone else gets out of it. The security, the support, the love for friends who become family.
And as he watches Caleb open up, face his past, Molly tries to repress his own past and what it digs up. But the fact of the matter is that the Nein support each other and Caleb returns Molly's support with some of his own; maybe sometimes it's a bit backhanded or cold sounding, as Caleb sometimes states things matter-of-factly, but it's always what Molly needs to hear.
(It's not what he wants to hear. He'll pout and grumble and mope but he knows in the back of his head that Caleb's right.)
But the best part of it is that at the end, when they've both faced everything they'd been avoiding, they come out of it stronger, with better bonds to each other, to the Nein. And that's where they really start. Two healthier people leaning on each other after going through terrible, horrible things together.
#widomauk#the comic really said molly is out here to help anyone he can and now my brain is full of that#molly....... deserved so much. i always think about what it would be like if he'd lived

A Marriage of Convenience {Chapter Fourteen}
Beau woke up to find Yashaâs face staring down at her. She grinned. âAm I in heaven?â
âOh, thatâs cute,â said a voice that caused her to frown. âYou think youâre getting into heaven.â
She groaned. âFuck you, Molly. Where am I?â She looked around and found that they hadnât moved It was well passed noon now if she was looking at the sun correctly. She groaned as she moved her sit up, her muscles screaming at her and head still pounding. âDid I pass out?â Yasha was beside her, ready to catch her if she couldnât hold herself up.
âYes, about an hour ago. Jester wanted to wait until you woke up to figure out what you wanted to do.â
Beau looked around to find Jester and found her and Nott a few yards away discussing their preferred sandwiches. She didnât even seem to realize that Beau had woken up. âDo about what?â
âAbout you,â Caleb said, speaking up behind her. âBeau⌠youâre out of the boundary.â
âOh shitâŚâ In all the chaos it hadnât occurred to her.
She back to look at Caleb to find him pointedly avoiding her eyes.
âBeau?â Jester looked over and realized that she was sitting up. âAre you feeling better? Mr. Clay and I ran out of spells, we could couldnât heal everything. Are you still hurt?â
âIâm fine Jes. Thanks. Caleb,â she turned back to him and he looked up at her. âWill you take someone to the gate and relight the candles?â
His eyes widened and he opened his mouth to speak but Jester spoke first. âWhat? Beau⌠Youâre free.â
âI know. And now I know that there are people I can trust with my freedom. This spell was made to keep me isolated but it didnât work. Now I have at least two people who would take the risk of blowing the candles out for me for the first time in my life. Itâs not a prison when I have the key. I canât leave yet but when Iâm ready Iâm leaving on my own terms. Letâs go back. For now.â
Caleb was woken the following morning but a knock on the door and a cheery voice calling his name. âMr. Widogast!â
He groaned and shuffled out of bed, still sore and tired from the hectic day before. He paused to throw the blanket over Nottâs sleeping body. He opened the door and saw the last person that he expected. He cleared his throat and reached up to shake out his hair. âMadam Lionett! This is a⌠surprise. What can I do for you this morning?â
Georgina gave him a look over and visibly suppressed a frown. âGood morning, Mr. Widogast. I have the flower arrangers coming in after breakfast this morning and I wanted to make sure you knew where to go. Did Beauregard tell you?â
âAh, no. Are we all looking at flower arrangements for the wedding?â Not ideal, but if Beau was there it wouldnât be so bad.
âNo, of course not, Darling. Beauâs working with her father today, getting more into the business like you encouraged her. Itâs just us and the flowers today. Come down to breakfast if you would.â
âWill Sir Lionett be joining us?â
âUnfortunately no. That breakfast a few days ago when he joined us was an anomaly. No, he spends weeks at a time in that office. Heâs got a cot in there and he has his meals delivered,â she paused and sighed. âDonât get me started. Join us when youâre ready.â
He watched her until she was gone and then shuffled over to Beauâs room in his house slippers. He knocked furiously on the door. âBeau,â he hissed. âBeau, what the fuck did you get me into?â
The door opened and Mollymauk smirked at him from the threshold, leaning against the door frame. âMr. Caleb. You look adorably sleep ruffled. Are those cats on your pants?â
âYes. I like cats. I have a cat. Where is Beau?â
Molly looked over his shoulder. âHiding from you.â
âIâm not hiding!â called a voice from inside.
Caleb perched on his tiptoes to look over Mollyâs shoulder. âBeauregard! Why am I hanging out with your mother all day? Why did she say I encouraged you to work with your father? Beauregard!â
âAh,â Molly interjected. âThat was my fault perhaps. She sacrificed you for me and Yasha, so that we could get jobs here.â
Beau slipped under Mollyâs arm. âYou think Iâm happy about this? My dad got me an office. An office! Iâm supposed to put on nice clothes and go sit at a desk all day.â
âI feel no sympathy for you. You got yourself into that.â
âWell, I needed to get close to the business so I can send info to you know who for you know what.â
âWho? What?â
Beau rolled her eyes. âThe entleman-Gay for aughterâs-Day inery-Way.â
Caleb sighed and pushed his frizzy morning curls out of his face. âWe need like, a code word. If I send a maid or someone up to your office with a code word I need you to come save me. You can do the same if- I donât know, if your legs atrophy or whatever it is that youâre worried about desks for.â
âHey, donât patronize me. Just go change or whatever. If my mother sees you out of your room wearing PJs she will kick you out of this house so fast your head will spin.â He started to walk away but she called out to him. âHey, what safeword do you want to use?â
One of the servants happened to be walking by and gave them a weird look but Caleb just gave her an awkward smile and waited for her to pass by. âSomething we can work into a sentence so itâs not obvious.â
âSo, I assume that âSave me from your demon-spawn motherâ is not it?â
âNo, I think not.â
âCoat,â Molly suggested. âIf you need saving send a servant with the message that you want Beau to bring you your coat.â
Caleb waved. âThat will work. Iâll see you all later, I suppose? Thereâs no way Iâm getting through this entire day without using the code word.â He started to walk away and Beau turned to Molly with a raised eyebrow.
âCoat?â
âWhatâs wrong with it? You need something you wonât scream during sex accidentally.â
âEw.â She pushed him out of the doorway and back into her room, shutting the door and then walking back towards her bed where she had several outfits laid out.
âOh, donât act like you arenât intrigued by the idea.â
âWith you? Fuck no.â
âNot with me, egh,â he visibly shivered in disgust. âI can tell by looking at you that whatever team youâre playing on wonât include me.â
âJust tell me which outfit looks less stupid.â
âThey all look equally stupid. Look at what I wear, why did you come to me for this? The best I can do for you is to tell you to wear whatever the fuck you want and act like you have every right to be there.â
âEven for a meeting with important people?â She asked. She bit her lip and looked over the stuffy gray dresses her mother had bought for her.
âEspecially for a meeting with important people.â
Beau looked down at what sheâs wearing now, a simple blue tank top with loose, baggy pants and no shoes. She smirks and starts for the door. âLetâs go tear this motherfucker down.â
âAtta girl.â
She marched through the halls with Molly sauntering along behind her. She usually only went to the South Wing when she was in trouble, so the simple act of marching up the stairs made her heart start beating faster. She cleared her throat and narrowed her eyes and pushed herself forward. There was a man in a gray suit standing outside her fatherâs office. He looked up when she got near and frowned at her, looking her up and down.
âBeauregard? Iâm Franklin Kastoc, Iâm your fatherâs personal assistant.â
Beau stopped in front of him and crossed her arms over her chest. âThis is Mollymauk. Heâs my personal assistant.â
Franklin cleared his throat and nodded. âI was asked to show you to your new office space. There is a closet there, if youâd like to hang up your garments after you change.â
âIâm not changing. These are my clothes.â
He blinked and laughed in shock. âYou canât wear that.â
She grinned and moved passed him. âYou gonna stop me? Show me my office.â
Franklin scrambled to catch up, pointing to a door two rooms down from her fatherâs office. âIt-Itâs right there. But you canât go into the meeting wearing-â
Mollymauk grinned and put a hand on his shoulder. âSheâs got it from here, gorgeous. Bye bye.â
Beau paused outside the door as Franklin walked away and raised an eyebrow. âDo you just flirt with everyone?â she asked, jiggling the door of her office when it got stuck.
Molly leaned against the wall and grinned. âI only flirt with beautiful people. So yes, I flirt with everyone.â
She sneered. âGod, that was cheesy. I thought you had a crush on Caleb.â
He didnât reveal anything on his face. âWhat makes you say that?â
âThe look on your face when you saw him outside my door in his goddamn cat PJs. I donât know much about romance, but I know an âoh shitâ look when I see it.â The door gave way and she cheered. âWoo! Alright, weâre in business.â Beau opened the door and frowned at room. âWell, this place sucks,â she said, looking over the bare walls and the wooden desk across from her.
âItâs only temporary,â Molly assured her, frowning as he ran a finger over one of the empty bookshelf shelves. His finger came away covered in dust and he sneered. âIck. No youâre right, this sucks.â
Beau threw open the window behind the desk and took a deep breath of the fresh air. âThis is for Caleb and Jester,â she said. âAnd itâs only temporary.â She turned to Molly. âPersonal Assistant! Whatâs on my schedule for today?â
He cleared his throat and pulled out a notepad from a pocket of his coat with a flourish. âYou have a meeting with your father and the board of the company in an hour. Youâre going on a tour of the winery after lunch. Wait, how are you doing that if you canât leave, I thought there was a boundary whats-it.â
âThe main winery is inside the boundary, on the other side of the lot as the springs.â
Molly nodded and continued. âWell, after lunch youâre doing that. Then at eight you, Caleb, Nott, and I are gonna get soused to high heaven.â
âCanât we do that part right now?â
He pulled a silver flask out of another pocket and tossed it to her. âIâm getting good at this assistant thing.â
Beau caught it out of the air and sighed as she flicked it open. âYou certainly are.â She took a swig. She tossed it back to him and he took a drink as well, just as there was a knock on the door. âCome in already,â she called, leaning back against the desk.
The door opened and Franklin was standing on the other side with his arms full of papers. âThese are from your father. He wants you to be familiar with these in time for the meeting.â
Beau grimaced but took the papers from him. It would take her days to actually read all of these. âGreat. Thanks, now leave.â Franklin left as Beau sat the papers down on her desk and took a deep breath. âWell,â she mumbled, taking a seat in the stiff wooden chair. âI better get started.â
âYouâre actually gonna do what your father wants you to do? Beauregard, Iâm disappointed.â
âDonât be stupid. Iâm looking for info I can give to⌠we really need to come up with a code name for him, I canât be running around here just saying his name out loud.â
âIâll work on it. Am I just supposed to stand around and wait for you to give me orders?â
âI donât think youâre capable of something like that. Go⌠do whatever you want. Just be back in time for the meeting.â
âIâm sure I can find something to keep myself busy.â And he left the room with a grin.
Beau read through papers for the next hour and then stood up and stepped out of the office with several papers held carelessly in her fist, locking door behind her. âMolly!â she called, looking up and down the hall. âMolly? Hey, Fucker!â
A door across the hallway swung open and Molly stepped out into the hall with his coat draped off his arm. His shirt was lopsided and the top three buttons were undone. He was flushed and grinning, running his fingers through his hair to fix it. âTime for the meeting?â
Beau raised an eyebrow and tried to subtly lean over to see into the room. She couldnât see who else was in there. âWere you with someone?â
âOh absolutely. Shall we?â He waved his hand ahead of them and put his other hand on the small of her back to try and push her forward. She looked over her shoulder just in time to see Franklinâs head peek out from the open threshold before the door slammed shut.
âFranklin? Really?â she asked, smirking.
âYes, Franklin. He was⌠surprisingly open minded.â
âFix your shit, if you look happy in any way my father will fire you.â
Molly chuckled and started fixing his shirt, then pulled his coat over his shoulders. âYou worried about little olâ me?â
âI went through a lot to get you here. If you get fired on your first day, I screwed Caleb over for no reason. Not that I need a reason to screw with Caleb, but no one deserves to spend time with my mother, not even him.â
âOh, just admit it, you like me.â
She rolled her eyes. âJust take note of anything you find interesting,â she said. âEven if you think it doesnât mean anything, if it catches your attention write it down,â she said and then pushed open the door to the boardroom.
The room was longer than it was wide with a giant ass window at the end that looked out on the vineyard in the distance. The vineyard wasnât on the estate so she had never been but she always liked looking at it. The room was mostly full of men in robes already, only her father was missing. Every eye turned to her and she grinned waving her fingers at them teasingly as she made her way over to an empty seat next to the one that was obviously reserved for her father. The other men were all standing beside their chairs, waiting for the boss to arrive, but she threw herself into her chair and leaned her elbows on the table. Molly followed along behind her and took a seat in a chair against the wall behind her. One of the other assistants looked at him out of the corner of her eye and he winked. She frowned and looked away snootily.
The men started speaking quietly in the room once more, trying to keep them from hearing. They failed and Beau was able to pick up most of the conversations but they were mostly about her clothes so she really didnât care. It was a few minutes before her father entered the room. He looked different in a boardroom than he did in the residence. The times that she had seen him in the dining room or the library or in the yard he had looked stoic, even a little angry at times. In his well pressed blue robes with his salt & pepper hair slicked back⌠he looked almost dangerous. His eyes instantly snapped to her and it took every ounce of rebellion in her blood not to look away when their eyes met. He didnât speak and just walked around her side of the table. He paused behind her and reached up to squeeze her shoulder.
âWeâll speak later,â he said quietly.
She looked over her shoulder to meet his eyes once more. âI know.â
He let her go and continued to his chair, shifting his robes and then taking a seat in his chair. The others moved to sit as well after he was seated. He cleared his throat and spread out several sheets of paper in front of him. âLetâs begin.â
She looked back at Molly and he had a confused and concerned look on his face. âWhat?â she mouthed. He opened his mouth but then quickly closed it and looked away, flicking his eyes over to her father and frowning.

Mollymauk slept soundly as Caleb curled up around him. Molly was breathing heavily but evenly. Caleb pulled away slightly, to really look at him. It was hours after the attack from Trent.
Caleb stood up, gently running his fingers along Molly's jaw. He had to see to something. He would be right back.
Caleb watched Molly for a second and simply walked out the door of their shared room.
"Are you picking a fight?" A deep voice boomed. Caleb froze and sighed.
"Caduceus."
"That is what I am called. Now, are you going to pick a fight?" Caduceus sat in the bar in the tavern with a full glass of something.
"I'm going to have a conversation with an old friend." Caleb said, with an edge to his voice.
"And that talk with your friend will end with one dead body to deal with after Molly almost-" Caduceus whispered. "I'm going with you."
"It'll be boring."
"But no one will start a fuss." Caduceus said, walking out with him.
Caleb led Caduceus to a house surrounded by fields and other houses. Caleb knocked on the door and sighed. A woman covered in scars and burns opened the door.
"Bren, you're looking well." The woman smiled.
"Astrid. Why is our teacher going after people who are fighting to stop the war?" Caleb said curtly.
"We protect our own."
"Bullshit."
"He threatened Trent!" Astrid looked up at Caleb. "We have loyalty, just like your group."
"Still. That's my group. He wants to protect the family." Caleb whispered. "Like we used to be like."
"We can go back to that."
Caduceus chose now to speak up. "Honestly, no. Too much has happened, and you have no problem attacking people with who aren't expecting it."
"Protecting my teacher." She answered back.
"And I'm protecting my friends." Caleb responded.
"Just keep them from going after us." She said, and slammed the door.
"That would have been a fight." Caduceus whispered as the two made their way to the inn.
"Yes. I am glad you were there." Caleb wrapped his arms around himself.
"I didn't do much."
"You kept my head on straight."
Silence fell between the two of them.
The inn was quiet as they went inside.
Mollymauk was sitting a booth with a glass half empty. Frumpkin was on his shoulders. Caduceus walked up the stairs, with Caleb frozen in place, watching Molly with wide eyes.
"You should be asleep." Caleb whispered. Before he realised, he was cupping Molly's cheeks and looked him over. His wounds were healing, but he was cold.
"You left." Molly looked up at him.
"I needed to talk with someone." Caleb replied, not moving his hands, feeling Molly's pulse.
"Is that all?"
Caleb pulled Molly into a hug. "I was protecting someone who showed me kindness from someone who taught me unspeakable cruelties."
"And Caduceus-"
"Protecting me from my bad decisions." Caleb grabbed Molly's drink. "Now lets go get some sleep because I can't be awake right now."
"Sleep sounds amazing right now."

I heard something about a modern Widomauk au fic
yes hello I have a modern widomauk fic I'm writing
I call it my catfish fic because the premise of it is that Caleb gets wrangled into using a dating app by Jester, and he begrudgingly uses it "for a few days, just to make her happy" and he figures he'll just find like, someone to talk to platonically
except he comes across the profile of Mollymauk Tealeaf. And Molly in this is a well known celebrity, he's a performer, a singer, and Caleb thinks oh this is 100% a scam. It'll be funny if I mess with this guy, Jester will appreciate the joke
Except it is Molly. But Caleb isn't convinced. He's just going along with the idea that this guy is faking being a celebrity to scam people or get attention or something, all the photos he's using are off of Molly's Instagram, kind of clever but whatever, he's not real
(except Caleb starts to really appreciate their conversations and holds off on calling out his scam because he's fun to talk to, and he's funny, and he'll reveal that he knows eventually but not yet because they're getting along really well and Caleb doesn't want to ruin it)
And then beyond that, y'know, the aftermath of the reveal and the relationship that happens beyond that and how Caleb deals with dating a very famous tiefling, along with how Caleb's past affects Molly's career

The Adventures of Mollycock Pealeaf and Co. Pt 1
Beaten, bloody, and furious, Beau brought her staff down with a resounding crack atop the remaining magic userâs head. They crumpled into a pathetic heap at her feet as she struck them one more time for good measure, just to vent her anger at being surprised - once again - by an ambush in the middle of the night. It was something she was really starting to get tired of.
Nott was heavily wounded, two large gashes in her sides but still managing to carry herself closer to the rest of the group with her crossbow still notched.
âYasha? Fjord? Jester?â Beau called over her shoulder after giving Nott a nod, scanning the area for the heads of her companions sheâd lost track of in the fray.
The snow obscured their forms over the dip of the hill, but the sound of Fjordâs âWeâre alrightâ Yashaâs âI am fine.â and Jesterâs âRight as rain!â seemed to show that they weren't in any harm.
âI think we have, ah⌠A problem, Beauregard.â Caleb spoke hesitantly from his place on the ground, cloak obscuring what she could only assume was Molly. Beau shifted, her brows pulling together as she frowned, suddenly worried.
âHah?â
Caleb scratched the back of his head with a strange expression on his face. He looked puzzled but almost... Asmused.
âMollymauk.â His mouth twitched and he cleared his throat, hiding his grin with the back of his head. âHe is a... Bird. For now.â
âWhat the hell are you talkinâ about?â
Nott stopped her scavenging of the bodies of the sorcerers around them and watched Caleb stand aside to reveal in all his glory, a lavender peacock with horns and jewelry to match.
Fjord, Yasha, and Jester crested the edge of the snow covered hill just in time to watch Beauregard dopple over in a fit of laughter while Nott brought her silver flask to her lips, drinking deeply in response.
âWhy is it always Molly shit happens to.â Beaureguard howled, bent over and clutching her sides in pain and histarea.
The peacock - polymorphed Mollymauk, as Caleb said between his own smirk - seemed to take offence in Beauâs laughter, his feathers lifting as he made a god awful trill of a noise and displayed his wings aggressively at Beau, flapping them and kicking the air in her direction. Snow followed his movements and he sunk lower into the powder before shaking his feathers again and jerking his head to look at the figure of Caleb beside him as if to plead for his defense. He was given no assistance from Caleb, who only lifted and eyebrow and shrugged.
Beau flinched at Mollyâs display and brought up her staff, holding it between herself and Mollymauk
âI fuckinâ hate birds.â Beau grouched, glaring at Mollymauk before looking up at Caleb who had contained his previous laughter and was now watching Mollymauk with interest.
âCanât Jester turn him back with one of her restoration spells?â Nott asked as the rest of the Mighty Nein caught up and took in the sight of Molly.
âMollymauk will be fine,â Caleb assured them as Jester gasped excitedly, eyeing the new visage of Mollymauk as if he were a cute puppy instead of the distressed form of a polymorphed Mollymauk. âThis spell will wear off in an hour or two at most. For now we, ah. Have to keep him from running away or hurting himself. Which should be easy enough.â
âMolly you are so cute.â Jester cooed, rushing up to kneel beside him. Molly blinked at her and tilted his head, fluffing his feathers and raising his tail feathers slightly which were oddly maroon, similar to his coat both in color as well as spotted with the vague symbols of his coat. âI donât think youâd very warm with your little bird legs in the snow so let me carry you.â
Reaching out for him was a mistake on Jesterâs part. Mollymauk raised his legs and wings, pushing off her offered arms in a desperate attempt to distance himself from her embrace.
âOuch-â Jester rubbed her inner arm where Molly scratched her, pouting as Mollymauk flared his wings and quickly retreated and flead down the snowy hill.
âShit heâs runninâ-!â Fjord cursed.
âYasha, grab him!â Beau shouted.
âOh. Ah. Okay.â
Bending down, Yasha beconed Mollymauk from her place a bit farther down the hill. Molly slowed, but lowered his head and tried to dart past Yasha after a moment of hesitation. It was all over for him in that moment as her hands caught him in a vice grip around both wings in a way that held him secure as well as kept him pinned to the snowy ground. He made a call of distress and eyed Yasha with betrayal in his eyes.
âGot him.â She called as the rest of the group followed suit.
âMollymauk.â Caleb knelt and Mollyâs wide red eyes snapped to attention, training themselves on the wizard warily. âIâm going to cover your head with my jacket. You will feel safer then but you must trust us.â
Mollyâs eyes narrowed and his neck bobbed as he took in the sight of his friends.
âJa, that is good.â Caleb soothed before slipping his battered coat off his shoulders and throwing it over Yashaâs hands.
âShould I-â
âMm. You can let go Yasha, Iâve got him. Danke.â
With quick hands Yasha released Mollymauk and Caleb replaced her hands with his own, folding the coat around Mollymauk snugly but enough to allow him room to shift if he was uncomfortable.
âThere.â Caleb huffed, his breath sending plumes of steam into the air.
âJeez, you would think he would have been fine with me picking him upâŚâ Jester frowned as she stood beside Caleb. âI can take him now if heâs too heavy for you Caleb.â She offered.
âNo, it is fine.â He assured her, shaking his head once before adjusting his grip and holding Mollymauk a bit closer to his chest. He could hear him make a soft crooning trill, which was still loud compared to the volume of the group around him, but not nearly as loud as the near screech heâd sent Beauregardâs way before.
âYes yes, you are fine now, Circus Man.â Caleb reminded Mollymauk before looking to the rest.
Jester was already tending to the rest of the crew, patching them up with healing words and first aid where it was needed. Luckily Caleb was barely touched, thanks to Mollymaukâs quick reflexes and successful blood maladict. He just was hit in Calebâs sted with one of the casterâs last ditch spells.
âYou make a very good bird Mr. Mollymauk. Very showy.â Caleb said with a grin as he trudged his way back to their cart through the snow. They got a new cart weeks ago after they rescued their friends and Molly had⌠Well. Caleb tried very hard not to dwell on what transpired then aside the fact they needed to be more careful with the people they make enemies with in the future.
He could hear Molly hiss under his coat and Caleb chuckled softly, carefully adjusting his grip on Mollymauk so his tail feathers werenât bent awkwardly against his arm.
âI am sorry,â he admitted âI did not think the caster would turn you into - ah - eh. A peacock. Like that. But you will return to normal soon.â
He reached the horses and cart soon enough, climbing into the canvases back of it with Mollymauk as the rest of the party got to their own horses - three of which theyâd purchased recently due to the death of their other two horses and release of Loaf after the kidnapping situation.
Settling against a sack of grain they kept for the horses, Caleb settled Mollymauk in front of him and lifted his coat hesitantly.
Molly raised his head with a jerk, glancing around the wagon before seeming to relax.
Satisfied that Mollymauk wouldnât run off immediately, Caleb sniffed and pulled his coat back over his shoulders since the biting cold was starting to numb his hands, wrapped as they were.
Mollymauk snapped his beak twice, catching Calebâs attention as he crawled into his lap.
âAh- wait, Mollymau-â Caleb protested with his arms up, but it was no use. Molly worked his way into Calebâs lap, feathers fluffed and tail splayed out behind him in a maroon waterfall of feathers as he made himself comfortable in the crook of his cold legs.
âOkay.â He sighed, resigning himself to a lap full of bird that reminded him strangely of Frumpkin weight wise. Molly adjusted his wings and flared them ever so slightly, and Caleb hesitated for a moment before letting his cold fingers press into the inviting peaks of Mollyâs feathers.
He was warm. Not that Caleb thought he would be anything different, but it was still a drastic difference from the ice of his finger tips that his skin felt raw and ached.
Mollymauk barely reacted, just stared outside the wagon as the rest of the Nein saddled their horses and talked amongst themselves. He did however, make an awful crooning call sound that made Caleb jolt and Molly shift in his lap. By the sound of it Mollymauk had caused Beau to fall off her horse, her indignant âFuck You Molly!â following soon after.
âYou stop that.â
Mollymauk turned his attention to Caleb now and if a peacock could look smug, Mollymauk was in fact wearing a shit eating grin. As if to say ânow why would I do thatâ.
With a shake of his head and a gentle brush of his fingers through Mollymaukâs feathers, he turned his attention away from his feathered friend and out the back of the cart as Yasha poised her horse just behind the wagon. Most likely to guard their backs, but mostly to keep an eye on Mollymauk in case he tried any other daring escapes while he was transformed.
âReady back there Caleb?â Nottâs voice called from the front of the wagon - she must be driving the horses today.
âJa. We are settled.â
âLetâs move out then.â Fjord called from ahead somewhere.
âYeah Iâm sick of sleeping in the cold,â Jester replied with a sigh âNext town we stop at weâre staying at the nicest, warmest hotel okay?â
âIâm alright with that.â Yasha replied.
âEh. I mean. We could save up our coin for, I donât know, diamonds worth 300 gold a piece or something instead.â Nott stressed.
âNow that is a stupid idea.â Jester pouted, and Caleb shook his head with a fond grin. He didnât have to see her to know she was springboarding off of Nottâs criticism and would make sure they had what they needed by the time they reached any type of situation close to death again.
The cart lurched forward at the snap of Nottâs wrist, and Caleb grasped Mollymauk a bit firmer who slipped in his grasp with a displeased hiss.
âSorry.â Caleb apologized as Mollymauk settled himself again in the tangle of his legs.

Lost Souls & Revelry
Fuck it! Iâm writing a thing and Iâm fucking posting it before I talk myself out of it! Take a Mighty Nein Sense8 AU and all the denial I can muster!
Itâs also on AO3!
It starts one day when Mollymauk looks up and grins at Yasha, reveling in the attention their carnival is getting from a pack of excited children. Itâs the most normal thing in Mollyâs world, except for the fact that Yasha left two days ago. For a moment he thinks sheâs back again, has showed up silent and unannounced the way she does, except she doesnât grin back at him. She just looks at him the same way she does when she encounters an unspoken rule, a custom she doesnât understand, or a reaction she doesnât have context for.
âMolly?â she asks. She looks around, and before Molly can ask her when she got to town, heâs somewhere different.
Yasha is alone. Sheâs made camp at the edge of a foggy meadow. Itâs colder where she is, and somehow without asking Mollymauk knows that itâs because she traveled north two days ago and lighting a fire would attract attention. Sheâs lying in wait. She hasnât told him a single word of this, but he knows.
Molly stares at her. Yasha stares back.
âWhat the fuck?â
...
It starts one day as Beauregard is in the middle of her morning stretches. Sheâs enjoying the flex of her muscles even though sheâs definitely letting her mind wander instead of centering herself, when she looks over and sees a blue tiefling copying her movements with a look of over-exaggerated concentration on her face.
Beau freezes immediately. Her uptight teachers should be damn proud that she holds her pose instead of dropping the forms immediately. âHey,â she hisses. âWho the fuck are you? Howâd you get in here?â
The woman freezes too, mirroring Beau. Thereâs jewelry in her horns, the kind that sways and makes little chiming noises when she turns her head. Her eyes are weird when she meets Beauâs gaze â usually tiefling eyes are one solid color. Sheâs even got freckles.
âI donât know,â she whispers loudly. âBut this is so cool! I have no idea where this is! Where am I? Iâm Jester, by the way! Who are you?â
Beau stares at her. The girl wobbles a little in their frozen pose.
âThis is a fuckinâ monastery,â Beau says. âAnd itâs goddamn dawn.â She pauses. âNope. Itâs too early for this. Fuck this.â She drops her pose and walks away. Fuck the forms. She must still be dreaming.
âWait!â Jester-the-magically-appearing-tiefling cries. Beau hears her jewelry jingling as she catches up. âHang on, hang on, who are you really? Just because this is probably a dream doesnât mean itâs not super cool! I want to know stuff!â
âItâs my dream, weirdo lady!â Beau snaps. âAnd Iâm going back to bed and itâll be over, so go away.â
The girl scowls. âMy name is Jester,â she repeats firmly.
âCool. Donât care.â Beau rounds the corner and plows right into her least favorite teacher. Because of course she does.
Xenoth frowns slightly at her. âBeauregard? Who are you talking to?â
Beau looks over her shoulder. The blue girl is gone like she was never there.
...
It starts one day with a bright spike of panic and Caleb fumbles at his neck, clutching for his amulet because there is a woman who just appeared from the air and she is staring at him. Sheâs tiny and grubby and heâs fairly certain she is a goblin underneath that mask, but her big golden eyes are fixed directly on Caleb and she appeared out of nowhere. No one else appears to notice her. She isnât really here and sheâs looking directly at Caleb.
His hand finds his amulet under his shirt, and relief surges through him as he feels its familiar protective magic. It canât be Ikithon. It canât be Astrid or Eodwulf or anyone at the Academy, not if his amulet is intact. This is something new.
It cannot be anyone he is running from, but it cannot be a good thing that this woman is still staring right at him when she should not be able to see him if she is not really here. Caleb puts his hand out, a spell at his fingertips to tell him what kind of magic this woman has, what she is using to see him from afar. Her eyes widen and she screeches loudly, and in an instant she is gone.
Caleb lowers his hand. Heâs shaking. No one else reacted to a loud goblin shriek in the center of a sleepy market.
...
It starts one day when Jester is bored, which is the perfect time for things to start happening. The first visit is to a really quiet place and thereâs one grumpy girl. She says itâs a monastery, but sheâs not nearly as excited about this weird thing thatâs happening as Jester is. In fact, the girl thinks itâs a dream, but itâs long past dawn in Nicodranas and Jester has been awake for hours so itâs definitely not a dream for her.
And then sheâs back in her bedroom like she never left.
âDid you see that?!â she shouts. âHoly shit! That was so cool! Did you do that to me? Is that something I can do now?!â
She hears a quiet, thoughtful hum. âThat was, indeed, very cool. Itâs nothing to do with me, though, dear.â
Jester hums back. Sheâs going to get out her sketchbook and draw the grumpy girl, but firstâŚ
âLetâs try to do it again!â
...
It starts one day after a long shift. It takes him a moment to notice a new voice among the chatter of the tavern, the raucous laughter and slurred singing. It doesnât matter what time it is in a port tavern like this one; sailors arrive at all times of day and go and get pissed immediately. Fjordâs used to the noise. He tips his glass, knocking back the rest of his firewater, when from right behind him comes a girlâs off-key, enthusiastic, loud singing voice.
Fjord chokes on his drink. He spins around toward the voice, already feeling his face flush. This girl is singing right along to the filthy shanty, belting out the words along with the most grizzled and drunken sailor in the place. Sheâs leaning on the back of Fjordâs chair, grinning ear to ear. Her blue tail swishes happily behind her, jewelry flashing in the light.
Fjord glances around quickly. Amazingly, no one seems to be paying attention to her yet, but the tieflingâs close and jewelry definitely set her apart from the crowd in here. âHey, uh, miss,â he says, laying a hand on her arm. The girl grins at him.
âThis is much more fun than a stuffy monastery!â she exclaims, which, what?
Fjordâs not sure how to reply to that. âUh⌠you might have wandered into the wrong place, miss. Itâs a bit of a rough bunch in here.â
âOh, no, Iâm fine!â the girl says. She claps along with the beat. âYou are getting pickpocketed, though, in case you were wondering!â
Fjord whips his head around and grabs the urchinâs hand just as it leaves his pocket with a handful of silver. When he turns back to thank the girl, sheâs gone.
...
It starts one day at the fringes of society, where Nott is debating with herself whether itâs safe to venture into this town. Sheâs out of rations and she really doesnât want to forage in the woods any more. The town will at least have a barn or a storehouse where the rats gather, so she can kill something fresh. If sheâs lucky, maybe sheâll even find something shiny to add to her collections.
But thereâs a lot of people in town. Nott swallows hard, feeling her guts twist up and her heart begin to pound. She fumbles for her flash and gives it a shake. Itâs only about a quarter-full. Maybe she can refill it in town, once she gets up the nerve. She takes a deep breath.
Then thereâs a man in front of her, staring at her. Nott freezes â stupid, stupid, donât freeze, run! Shoot! Something! â but he looks like he froze, too. The human has bruise-dark circles under his eyes and heâs skinny. His hands shake. Heâs clutching something at his chest and thereâs hardly any color to his face. He looks as terrified of her as she is of his sudden appearance.
The human moves first, raising one hand abruptly. Nott doesnât know anything about magic but she knows a spell when she sees one about to be cast at her. She shrieks and dashes off, away from town.
Where did he even come from?! She was so sure nobody was near her hiding place! She has to find a new way to approach the town now.
Nott hides in some bushes and clutches her flask. Sheâs shaking all over. Without hesitating, she tips her flask up and finishes the whole thing off. Fuck it. Sheâll find more. Sheâll steal more. Sheâll manage.
When the whiskey settles warm in her stomach and she feels brave enough to peek out from her hiding place, thereâs no sign of the human anywhere.
...
It starts one day, she supposes, but as she stares back at Mollymauk she realizes she doesnât actually know that this is the first time. Theyâve been inseparable as usual for the past month with the carnival â Molly has been at her side for weeks. Then two days ago, she was called away. Now, somehow her friend is standing in her little camp instead of safely with the circus where she left him.
Molly would never follow her when she chooses to leave. The twins tried once, because theyâre nosy little shits, but Yasha just let them fumble around for a bit and lose her trail before she got too far from the circus. Itâs dangerous where she goes alone. Molly doesnât ask questions she canât answer, he just slips any spare rations into her bags when he thinks she canât see, and he kisses her on the forehead when she goes back. Thatâs how it is with Molly, and she loves him for it.
âWhat the fuck?â Molly blurts out. Then he stumbles, and Yasha instinctively steadies him.
Then theyâre back in town, and the crowd around Mollymauk is moving toward the tent. Bo moves away from Molly, having knocked his shoulder into the tiefling to get him moving again. Mollyâs glass swords are in his hands, and the sun is setting behind them. He glances at Yasha, eyes wide. She motions with her hands, miming his juggling and ushering him along.
Molly flashes a smile to her, to the crowd, and his swords flash through the air. Yasha falls back to her place at his back, keeping an eye on their carnival like she always does.
This time, no one but Molly can see her do it. Sheâs still sitting at her campsite waiting for nightfall. But at the same time, sheâs here. She has things she has to do and sheâs getting them done, but it seems that she can also watch out for Mollymauk while sheâs gone. Sheâs not sure whatâs going on with them, but this is no bad thing.
