I feel like a lot of people who weren't fond of Arcane S2 got the mistaken impression that the core plotline of S1 was the class conflict between Piltover and Zaun. I wouldn't say that's the case myself; I'd argue it was more of a backdrop than anything.

I think the Piltover and Zaun conflict was A core tenant. Key word, A. Season 1 had a lot of shit going on, and for some reason that's the plotline they hyperfixated on. But I think you are 100% correct. Because of that hyperfixation, they deluded themselves about what season 2 was going to give them, and for some odd reason it also distracted them from the fact that Arcane is not a happy show.

Because here's the thing.

The Piltover and Zaun storyline? Wasn't ignored. Wasn't pushed to the side. It followed a very realistic arc of being a cycle that repeats and is never fully fixed, at least not in a short time. Longstanding strife between two groups of people doesn't usually see resolution in the timeline the show gives us. And besides! It's not like it's entirely hopeless. It DOES end on a note of hopeful uncertainty.

I think people are upset at the idea of a "bigger bad" coming in and that being what unites the cities, instead of Zaun fighting for independence and achieving it and Piltover never intervening again. This is where people are too caught up in what they WANT to happen instead of what is realistic TO happen based on the events of season 1. Which is why it pays to pay attention. The Arcane plotline was always going to be the focus of the finale. It's the show's namesake. Ambessa and the Noxians were always going to be an issue, and chances were, it would have demanded the unity of the two cities for their survival, which it did.

It's not fair. It's not satisfying. It's realistic.

And there's no denying the fact that current world politics are influencing how people feel about this storyline. I guarantee if that weren't the case, people would think of the Piltover and Zaun arc differently.

But if we are going to draw from real world politics, a bigger military power coming in to a country that already has some internal conflict and using that as an excuse to intervene? The American Military Industrial Complex, anyone?

There comes a certain point where you have to acknowledge that Arcane is fiction. We all draw on real life experiences to interpret shows, yes. But at the end of the day, it's fiction. And you have to take the story for what it is and the information you're given, not let real life influence how you think it should play out.

flowers symbolization in the MCR videos (especially red carnations)

so i was looking back at MCR's videos and noticed these flowers. They show up pretty clearly in the last few seconds of the first video. so i thought to do some digging about them since i feel like every tiny detail counts in these videos LMAO. So these flowers are apparently red carnations and baby breath flowers. so i tried to look up symbolization regarding these flowers and found some stuffff

ok so apparently red carnations were worn during International Workers' Day known as May Day, which was a major celebration in the Soviet Union. May Day was a public holiday that celebrated the working class and the achievements of socialism. On this day, people would wear red carnations or carry them in parades and marches. Under Joseph Stalin however, May Day was a major event that showcased its MILITARY power, which is why the guy in the first video kind of looks like he's wearing some sort of military outfit IDK. Also under the Soviet Union, the government often ENFORCED participation in May Day parades to show solidarity and loyalty to the government. That kinda further proves the idea that the Black Parade is kind of being forced to stay in MOAT and show their solidarity to the DRAAG dictatorship. So, under the Soviet Union May Day parades became less against dictatorship (like they originally were) and more about loyalty to government and celebration of socialist achievements under the Soviet Union. I think what's going on in the first video might be some sort of reference to something like a May Day parade, espically with the caption: "His Grand Immortal Dictator wishes to celebrate our rich and storied culture, fine foods, and musical entertainments", this is in short what May Day was about under the Soviet Union. This all would make a lottt of sense. I really do not think this is a coincidence at all and in short, in the first video at least, I think the parade or march or whatever we hear going on outside might be something like a May Day parade.

oh yeah another thing, a popular slogan used during these Mayday parades was "Long Live the Dictatorship of the Proletariat." .... which sounds pretty familar righttt... to "Long Live Draag", which was the in the caption of the first video MCR posted. Another important detail i forgot to mention about the May Day parades is that they were also used as propaganda to showcase soviet power and unity. These parades were highly orchestrated with military demonstrations and symbolic marches. Using this information, it's pretty fair to assume that the "Long Live" Black Parade tour is a form of propaganda for the DRAAG dictatorship. but ok moving on the the white flowers.............

OK SO the white flowers are called "baby breath" and I couldn't find as specific of an example for them, but they generally represent innocence and purity, in some cultures its symbolizes unconditional love butttt they're also commonly used in funeral arrangements, representing eternal love for someone who has passed. This is especially true in Asian and Eastern cultures, where they're commonly used in honoring ceremonies as a symbol of respect and affection.

So, I'm honestly not sure what these two mean together but i really reallllyyyyy doubt that it's a coincidence that they were put together, especially with the symbolization of the red carnations. Alice was enjoying the hell out of the fair. The Billie Lewis grant was a great cause, and Alice always liked the chance to hang out with new people. She’d been at the face painting booth for about an hour, now, and she was really getting into the swing of it. She typically liked pencils better than paint, but making art on someone’s face was one of the best ideas the muggles had ever had. Usually, that honor went to hair scrunchies, but Alice was reconsidering her ranking. She’d done sports team emblems, animals, rainbows. Some people wanted something subtle on their cheek, while others wanted their whole face decorated. Her favorites were the kids, who were just generally more creative than the adults.

For a while there’d been a steady stream of people, usually one or two waiting in line while Alice finished up whoever she was working on, but things had slowed down. As a former student of Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS), I couldn’t be prouder about the frosty reception that expat tweens gave the Secretary of Defense when he visited Europe last month. As the Washington Post reported, “Dozens of American students at [Patch Middle School in Stuttgart, Germany] walked out [. . .] as part of protests aimed at an official visit by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, underscoring the scope of disillusionment with the Trump administration’s crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.” Inspired in part by this action, students at another school in the DODDS system, this time in Yokosuka, Japan, staged their own walk-out in late February to protest the anti-DEI measures. And the Yokosuka event was followed last week by a walk-out by students at Kadena High School in Okinawa, in which some 60 to 80 students took part. So why are these students abroad so upset? To answer that question, some backstory is required. As part of the Trump administration’s war on diversity, equity, and inclusion, Secretary Hegseth has ordered an end to all manner of organizations, commemorations, and recognitions of any group within the armed forces that happens not to be white, male, or Christian. This followed a presidential executive order on military DEI programs, which states that they “undermine leadership, merit, and unit cohesion, thereby eroding lethality and force readiness,” and that diversity initiatives “violate Americans’ consciences by engaging in invidious race and sex discrimination”; meanwhile, a separate executive order holds that DEI involves “illegal and immoral discrimination programs.” And Secretary Hegseth has remarked that, “I think the single, dumbest phrase in military history is, ‘Our diversity is our strength. I think our strength is our unity.” At West Point, this had led to the banning of organizations like the Latin Cultural Club, the Native American Heritage Forum, the National Society of Black Engineers, The Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers. But such restrictions are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the impact of the anti-DEI edicts among the military, as other initiatives have targeted efforts to ensure greater fairness and opportunity for service members making careers in a U.S. military with a long history of racial and sexist discrimination. (For instance, Black soldiers “make up 9 percent of active-duty officers but only 6.5 percent of generals. They are especially underrepresented at the highest levels — three- and four-star generals — which also have the most influence.”) Perhaps most dramatically, trans service members are currently being drummed out of the armed services. The Trump administration has also made a point of firing high-ranking minority and female officers, to send a message that only preferential treatment (i.e., DEI policies) put them in their positions of power.

But flying under the radar of these consequential moves against diversity and mutual respect in the armed services, the anti-DEI orders have also been promulgated through the educational system responsible for providing schooling for the children of military members serving abroad. The Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) has sent instructions to the roughly 160 schools within the DODDS network to apply the new restrictions there as well — and even as DODDEA says it is “conducting an operational compliance review to ensure alignment with” the recent executive orders, school leadership has already implemented sweeping interpretations of the anti-DEI policies. The restrictions encompass library books, lesson plans, cultural observances, and student clubs.

[...] Perhaps most chillingly, the restrictions have reached directly into DODDS students’ right to associate freely around topics of common interest, with organizations like the Pride club and Women in STEM being disbanded at schools. [...] The suppression of these kids’ right to free association strikes me as particularly sadistic and manipulative, and points to a larger danger in the making: that the Trump administration is effectively moving to enforce its deranged vision of America, and of “patriotic” education, on a captive audience of vulnerable kids who deserve much better. When we see these students protesting against affronts to their dignity, the quality of their education, and their rights, it is both a beacon of hope, but also a warning: we can’t just let the Trump administration have its way with their educations, or with their rights as American citizens. Some Democrats have voiced outrage; Representative Gil Cisneros of California remarked that, “By taking away books, by minimizing curriculum, taking away materials, taking away cultural events, you take away that diversity and you take away the things that allows them to go out and achieve.” And Maryland’s Rep. Jamie Raskin has tweeted constituent complaints about the administrations’s attacks on DODDS students’ freedom to learn. Meanwhile, the European Parent Teacher Association has sent a letter to the House Armed Forces Subcommittee on Personnel asking that schools be given more time to comply with the anti-DEI directives, noting that “This lack of clarity is leading to widespread censorship, librarians being forced to remove books and clubs being canceled due to ‘possibly’ being out of compliance.” But the fight to protect DODDS students from infringements on their freedom to learn, and from policies that disparage and isolate individuals based on characteristics like race, gender, or sexual orientation, deserves to be much better known among the public. It is an outrage upon the vulnerable that puts the moral turpitude of the Trump administration on vivid display. In attempting to make American kids abroad into test subjects for an education that views non-whites, non-males, and non-straights as aberrant and abnormal, the administration is engaging in abusive and unforgivable behavior. And I would not be surprised to see the Defense Department begin to push more explicitly for white supremacist and jingoistic curricula in DODDS schools.

Andromeda found that the events that the Ministry promoted were not exactly 100% reliable, there was a certain sense of distraction, pan et circus, if you will, and that left a sour taste in her mouth.

That being said, once Dora found out about the fair there was no way of not attending.

Georgia is at a turning point. Demonstrations have spread across the country in response to the ruling Georgian Dream’s shocking decision to suspend Georgia’s European Union membership process, started in 2022, after the opposition accused it of rigging a victory in the October parliamentary elections. The events bring to mind the 2014 Maidan Revolution, when Ukrainians protested then-President Viktor Yanukovych’s decision to pull Ukraine away from the EU and closer to Russia.

Georgian authorities have responded to protesters with heavy-handed tactics. They have used water cannons, tear gas, and anti-riot forces, targeting journalists and arresting activists in an effort to weaken the protests and deter further dissent. These tactics, reminiscent of those used by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, indicate a dangerous shift toward authoritarianism.

It is unclear why Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced Georgia’s withdrawal from the EU accession process until 2028 now, but he wouldn’t have done so without the direction of Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgia’s richest man and founder of Georgian Dream. While Kobakhidze accused the EU of blackmailing Georgia in his Nov. 28 statement announcing the move, his party had just campaigned for reelection promising to support EU membership. Perhaps the move was intended to preempt the expected suspension of the accession process by the EU in December; the European Parliament last week described the voting process in the October elections as “neither free nor fair” and adopted a resolution declaring the results invalid. Or perhaps it was intended to provoke protests, thus giving the government an opportunity to crush all dissent, just as Lukashenko did in Belarus in 2020.

If the latter is true, though, that strategy appears to be failing. The scale and scope of ongoing protests are unprecedented in Georgia. They are self-organized, with no single political leader or organization driving them, and are occurring in Tbilisi, the capital, but also in other large cities and even some villages. This grassroots mobilization highlights the Georgian people’s determination to keep their country on a European path.

Georgia’s institutions are showing signs of cracks. Civil servants from the ministries of defense, foreign affairs, education, and justice and other agencies have issued joint statements to distance themselves from the prime minister’s announcement. Several diplomats, including Georgia’s ambassador to the United States, have resigned.

The outcome of this standoff may hinge on the actions of security forces, law enforcement, and the military. If there are more high-ranking resignations, especially from the security services, Georgian Dream’s grip could slip. Another tipping point could be if police disobey orders to use lethal force against protesters. Already, the silence of Georgia’s military may indicate its preference to side with the country’s commander in chief, President Salome Zourabichvili.

For her part, Zourabichvili has refused to recognize the seating of Parliament, which four parties backing a pro-European charter have boycotted. Her refusal renders the current actions of the Georgian Dream-only Parliament unconstitutional. Zourabichvili has stood with protesters in the streets and has created a national unity council, designed to prepare the way for new elections.

Her efforts have borne fruit, with opposition parties showing unusual cohesion. But the president’s ability to drive change will remain limited without strong, immediate support from Brussels and Washington, even as the latter is distracted with its own presidential transition.

The days ahead will be critical. Georgia’s future remains deeply uncertain, and the stakes for the country’s democracy, let alone its European aspirations, could not be higher. Over the weekend, the United States suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia, but U.S. and European leaders can and should do more—and fast.

To this end, Georgia’s Western allies should declare that the October elections were fraudulent and thus the seating of the new Parliament and reestablishment of a Georgian Dream government—without the required approval of the Georgian president—are illegitimate and unconstitutional; there will be no recognition of Georgia’s government until new, free and fair elections are held.

They should also impose immediate and public sanctions on Ivanishvili and his associated business interests as a direct consequence for his role in undermining democratic processes, as well as provide strong political and diplomatic backing for Zourabichvili in her efforts to bring about new, free and fair elections, thus creating a path for democratic renewal. Lastly, they should call on the Georgian military and security services to uphold the country’s constitution, even if this means refusing to obey orders from the illegitimate government.

Russia is determined to flip governments in its near neighborhood, whether through presidential elections in Romania, general elections in Bulgaria, gas price pressure in Moldova, or fraudulent elections in Georgia. The West needs its own strategy to prevent Russia from succeeding. Georgia is now ground zero. The decisions made in the coming days will determine whether the country reinforces its democracy and moves closer to Europe or slides further into authoritarianism and Moscow’s orbit. And this, in turn, will inform Russia’s policies in the wider region.

i generally liked her and as i said, im not commenting on bigger plot until i see what they're cooking, the problems i have is with presentation and dramatization

1.i think they should have made tournament a bigger deal. yeah, kachina can have central role, but we could have time to run around as traveler in between her segments and see other fighters, bc rn its like. oooooh nation wide sacred tournament!!! and then its kinda just kachina has 3 fights and thats it. fountain act 1 i think did better job at presenting opera and trials as gigantic centre of attention and being important for the entire country.

2.ode of resurrection failing to call kachina scene is good as plotpoint, but execution is very mid. idk if its my own audio, but it sounded to me that the ode as mixed very quietly contrasting to dialogue, as like background music. they should have BLASTED it, like they have insane piece of music, they should have utilized its power to the full. if you havent heard, please do. it gives me chills every time, except for how it was used in game. like. stadium is almost empty, you had like giant rows of seats with about 3 ppl on the row. hoyo fucking come on, crowd in some npcs. it should feel massive, not like 15 guys at a local village football match. and like. mavuika just walks off screen and then walks back like hey guys our resurrection failed. this moment has so much drama potential!

like. we're shown the CROWDED stadium. chorus rises. the sacred flame is growing bigger and bigger. chorus almost at its peak, blasting. mavuika is reaching to the flames, her own hair turning into fire. music at crescendo, flames are roaring sky high, and then WHOOSH purple abyss flash, flames flicker, almost going out completely, mavuika is thrown back, crowd is scared and flailing mb we have a momentary frame of seeing scared crying kachina in the night kingdom. much more obvious impact to emphasize what a big deal sacred flames are

3. mavuika giving up her power is another great plot beat that was executed super meh. like. nothing against iansan, but she's standing there looking at mavuika the whole time, like are you done with your traumatic event? was it very traumatic? mavuika is like haha im dying on the inside but its fine, lets go. no music, no fanfare, very little emotional gravity for how important this is.

instead it could be like. mavuika dismisses iansan, like, this is something i need to do alone. she's slowly walking up to the flames. ode of resurrection theme starts playing, but no chorus, its very somber version. natlan is about unity of ppl, no one fights alone, etc, but at this moment mavuika feels very lonely and deep down, scared. she doesnt know capitano doesnt fight weakened enemies, she's giving up what she thinks is her last line of defense, she believes in her ppl, but in this moment she feels powerless. her fair turns to fire, she reaches out, hesitant, music is a single wind flute playing natlan theme, and mavuika lets go of her power, fire draining from her hair slowly, she's visibly distraught, its a melancholic and quiet moment that lingers for some time. then she gathers her strength, puts on the brave face and goes to iansan to joke about taking photos, but she's allowed the moment of vulnerability, for the latter acts contrast to when natlan ppl will be coming together.

4.the moment when group is trapped in night kingdom and rescued is already good, but i think itd be insane if we had resurrection ode call back. like they just fell, the gap in the ceiling just closed, they are looking at each other in the dark, scared. natlan theme starts playing, very quietly at first, the chorus is barely audible, but as the cracks are showing on the cavern ceiling, it grows lowder and lowder, until the darkness shatters, we have that great shot of mavuika breaking the border between 2 worlds, and the chorus is finally able to reach the highest point, in contrast to how it had to break short of it the first time. and then the group is immediately AT THE STADIUM, crowded with all the people here singing. the mavuika shot already shows stadium behind her, lets just get there, have a wonderful call back to natlan people coming together and greeting them as heroes coming back, including kachina, who can finally be treated as a hero. like we can say its magic, time moves differently, whatever, its much more cinematic flow than the group wakes up at the random hill and has to waddle back to mavuika's room, and then like 20 minutes of info dump later we get stadium scene of praising kachina.

🇩🇪 The Fragile Weimar Republic

Let's return to Germany in the 1920s. While the past events we discussed left deep scars on the German psyche, they also revealed a critical weakness in the country's political system: the Weimar Republic. Today, we'll focus on this government's creation, its struggles to gain legitimacy, and how its fragile nature contributed to the ride of extremist movements.

The Birth of the Weimar Republic

In 1918, Germany was in absolute chaos. The Kaiser, Wilhelm II, had retired, leaving a power vacuum. A new democratic government was proclaimed in Weimar, a city chosen for its distance from the unrest in Berlin. This government was an ambitious experiment–a parliamentary democracy in a country accustomed to monarchy and militarism.

The Weimar Constitution, drafted in 1919, was progressive for its time. It included universal suffrage (voting rights for both men and women), freedom of speech, and a range of social protections. On paper, it seemed to promise a modern, fair and equal society. However, the republic faced immediate challenges.

Many Germans blamed the Weimar leaders for signing the Treaty of Versailles, viewing them as traitors who stabbed Germany in the back and ultimately associated the new Republic with defeat. Their politics were also extremely fragmented. The Reichstag was made up of multiple parties, ranging from communists to monarchists, which made forming stable government pretty difficult. Hyperinflation and unemployment were also undermined in the government's ability to provide for its people.

The Struggle for Stability

Despite its grand ideas, the Weimar Republic was built on a shaky foundation. From the beginning, it was under siege from both the left and the right. In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, communists in Germany sought to overthrow the government and establish a Soviet-style regime. The Spartacist Uprising of 1919, led by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, was one such attempt. Although it was crushed by the Freikorps (paramilitary groups loyal to the government), it revealed the deep divisions within German society.

On the other hand, monarchists, nationalists, and militarists despised the republic for dismantling the empire. The Kapp Putsch of 1920 was a right-wing coup attempt aimed at restoring authoritarian rule. Although it failed due to general strike, it showed that the republic lacked widespread loyalty. The government's reliance on the Freikorps to suppress leftist uprisings further weakened its legitimacy. These groups were known for their brutality and often harbored far-right sympathies, paving the way for the future paramilitary organizations like the Nazi SA.

The Culture Wars of the Weimar Republic

The Weimar Republic was not only politically unstable but also culturally transformative. Berlin became a hub for avant-garde art, cinema, and progressive social movements. Cabarets, jazz, and daring films symbolized the break from tradition. However, this cultural vibrancy was polarizing. Many conservative Germans viewed it as moral decay, a betrayal of traditional German values. Groups such as the Nazi Party exploited this discontent, painting the republic as a breeding ground for corruption, degeneracy, and foreign influence.

The Dawning of Extremism

By the mid-1920s, the Weimar Republic had weathered numerous crises, but at great cost to its legitimacy. Its domestic ideals were overshadowed by its association with economic failure, political chaos, and cultural divisiveness. For many Germans, democracy seemed foreign, weak, and incapable of restoring Germany's former glory. The disillusionment opened door for extremist movements. The Nazi Party, under Adolf Hitler, promised a return to order, unity, and strength. They capitalized on the widespread belief that Germany needed a leader who could stand above the squabbling politicians and restore national pride.

The Weimar Republic was a bold experiment in democracy, but it was plagued by political instability, cultural conflict, and economic hardship. These weaknesses made it an easy target for those who sought to dismantle it. As we move onto the next lesson, we'll explore how Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party exploited these vulnerabilities to gain a foothold in German politics.
