location — holy spirits, high tea
character — @lorelai-tseng
His usual run ins with Lorelai had ceased over time. He would shoulder most of the blame considering he'd all but limited himself to a few places within the city while he and the Cranes weren't seeing eye to eye. It was safer that way, even if she had her own ties to the family. For all he knew, Freddie, or perhaps even Nathan had already corrupted her thoughts of him. That seemed to be their game plan, anyway. Spread half truths, watch the world burn around him. "Long time, no see," he hummed, a playful pinky lifted as he sipped from his glass and bite back a smile. He wasn't elegant by any means and he was far too used to wearing a suit for it to make much of a difference. "Looking stunning as ever. I'm assuming that was the goal though." To no surprise, of course. She had a way of turning every head in a room and she knew it. "How've you been?"

location — holy spirits, high tea
character — @ediewelscr
Having been to a few spring celebrations in the city of Providence Peak, she could note that without a doubt, this was her favorite. Not only had it given her a proper reason to dress with the intention of impressing a room full of people, it had also given others the same idea. Beautiful dresses, tailored suits, wide smiles and intoxicating laughs filled the bar. Oddly enough, the classical covers of personal favorites had swaying in rhythm as she watched others do the same. Despite everything that had happened, she was happy. Relieved, even, that her heart raced for reasons that weren't going to flood her veins with wandering worry. "Your dress is gorgeous," she complimented, a smile hanging off the side of her mouth as dark hues trailed down the other's frame and back up again. "Did you ever think you'd be playing Bridgerton in Colorado? I didn't." And yet, now she couldn't imagine anything else being more fun than this.

location — a touch of ink, flash tattoos
character — @katerinadelarosa
Having already done a flash tattoo sale together, it only seemed fitting that he invited her to another. Of course, she had the luxury of skipping the long line out the door as he snuck her in through the back and guided her to his workspace. He was fortunate enough to have the day off, but he'd volunteered a few hours to help them keep up with the pace. It was only after they'd given the go ahead to call it quits that he opted to cash in a favor. "Any idea what you want? It's free." He had a few personalized sheet options for her to pick from, but ultimately, he'd do whatever she wanted for the sake of the welcoming of spring. "I was thinking about getting a bunny somewhere on my thigh. You think Adri would have our heads if we got another matching set?"

location — take it outdoors, kayak race
character — @derekxaranda
"On a scale of one to ten, how much of a chance do you think we have against everyone else? My shoulders aren't what they used to be, but my heart is totally in it." He peered down at the paddles and life vests that were theirs for the taking and meant for competition. If they won, they'd have a set of nice kayaks and while he'd never been one to get out on the water much, maybe this would change his mind. "How much do you think kayaks would run us? Just wondering how much I should put into this and if I should text Ken to get the icy-hot ready for when it's over."

location — a touch of ink
character — @jeanieprabhakar
Was there a better time to get a cover up tattoo? Fifty dollars was all it would take to wipe the remaining stitch of Boyd's existence on her body. A single lowercase letter could be turned into anything she wanted. A blooming flower to represent a fresh start, or a bunny with no meaning other than the intended purpose of leaving the letter covered. Whatever she picked wouldn't matter, not in the end. It would always be the tattoo that physically altered another, but didn't take away an ounce of the meaning. "Am I crazy for hopping into line on a whim? I was in the area and I saw the sign for a flash tattoo and thought, why not? Why not get an impulsive tattoo." It wasn't as if she hadn't had the same thought for years. Cover it up. Get rid of the letter, Nadia. Even in line, her confidence wavered. "What are you getting?"

(Continuation of a request for Twst-world happenings and weather)
Tumblr media
Twst Holidays
Interestingly, we have an example of a real-world Japan holiday being referenced by name in Twst! During the Wish Upon a Star event the prefect comments that the school’s Starsending activities sound strikingly similar to Tanabata, though none of the characters react.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do not believe that we have heard of anything concerning Falena and Cheka’s birthdays, though in Leona’s flashback we hear about an unnamed ceremony where Falena presented Cheka to the kingdom as their future king.
(This scene is sometimes referenced as proof that Falena is already king of Sunset Savanna, but he is not! He is still first prince. This is a not-insignificant part of Leona's turmoil, as it is technically not too late for him to be chosen in favor of his brother and he is grappling with resigning to the inevitable and his fear of giving up (re:novel))
Malleus’ birthday has been confirmed to be a national holiday in Briar Valley!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have also heard about many of the festivals held throughout the various countries:
-> The Queendom of Rose’s White Rabbit Fes is a recent tradition, started 16 years ago.
-> Craneport’s Port fest is an annual festival held to commemorate the construction of the port and has been held for decades, though waning in popularity.
-> Harveston’s Mount Moln Sledathon is an annual festival.
-> The Yasamina River Fireworks Fest is a festival organized by the Scalding Sands’ most prominent families.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-> The Fairy Gala is a festival that fairies hold to usher in spring, but it is “no mere celebration of fairy fashion,” and an interruption of the festival can result in the entire world being caught in eternal winter.
-> Beanfest is “a traditional Twist Wonderland event,” not just a school activity.
-> Halloween is “one of the biggest events in Twisted Wonderland.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Concerning weather: it seems that each dorm exists in an independent dimension, and it might be possible that these dimensions are maybe kept weather-controlled? :> Kalim says that “Scarabia’s usually warm year-round!”
Curious things happen to the temperatures during Fairy Gala, which might be hinting at how hot and/or cold those dorms usually are? Octavinelle becomes “unbearably hot,” so it is possible that it is usually cold (as would make sense for a dorm under the water).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scarabia usually gets chilly at night, according to Kalim, but during Fairy Gala the dorm is buried in snow in contrast to its usual desert temperatures.
Ignihyde becomes extremely warm, so maybe it is usually kept at a cool temperature? (Which would also make sense, considering all their electronics).
Heartslabyul also becomes very warm, so it is possible that the dorm’s usual temperature is cooler? While Epel complains that Pomefiore has become extremely dry, so maybe that dimension usually has high humidity.
Tumblr media
Lilia says that Diasomnia stays cool because there is little sunlight and that it might not be hospitable for someone like Kalim, who is used to warmer climates.
Crowley’s office becomes freezing cold during the gala, possibly insinuating that it is usually kept warm? Ramshackle Dorm is the opposite, becoming “hot as a desert.”
Tumblr media
While dorm-dimensions may be weather controlled, it would seem the weather on the main campus is not! As you say there is the rain at Ramshackle during the prologue (also emphasized in the novel), and it rains again on campus in Book 7, but as that is Malleus-rain I am not sure it counts?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is also forecasted “thunderstorms and torrential rain” being a plot point in the Wish Upon a Star event, and snow can be seen around Ramshackle and the Main Street of campus during Book 4.
And that is what I was able to find! :> Hope this helps!

the one post I saw about burning man on here has missinfo (breaking event so understandable) and a pretty unsympathetic tone (I get it fyre fest or whatever but it is a former arts event that has been around since the 80s a lot of people did not have reason to expect stranded by the weather like this)
there is so much funny and interesting about this event even beyond the rich people stuck in the mud element
if you get a chance to skim the "Event timeline" portion of the Wikipedia article its a mix of creative themes and facts about mishaps
but to summarize the general history and give you a sense of how chaotic this event has been for the last almost 40 years
this event which started as an art collective and encouraged leave no trace trash policies as well as decomodification, a gifting/barter economy, and "radical inclusion and self expression" slowly changed into something critisised as less participatory and more influencer-baity which, when contrasted with the earlier emphasis on self reliance, is a recipe for trouble
By 1988, Larry Harvey formally named the summer solstice ritual "Burning Man" by titling flyers for the happening as such. This was apparently done to ward off references to "wicker man", the reputed Celtic pagan practice of burning live sacrifices in human-shaped wicker cages. Harvey has stated that he had not seen the 1973 cult film The Wicker Man until many years after and claims it did not inspire the action.
THE SOLSTICE BONFIRE OF A HUMAN EFFIGY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MOVIE ???
In 1990, a separate event was planned by Kevin Evans and John Law on the remote and largely unknown playa, known as the Black Rock Desert, about 110 miles (180 km) north of Reno, Nevada.[26] Evans conceived it as a dadaist temporary autonomous zone with sculptures to be burned and situationist performance art. He asked John Law, who also had experience on the dry lake and was a defining founder of the Cacophony Society, to take on central organizing functions of the events. In the Cacophony Society's newsletter, it was announced as Zone Trip No. 4, A Bad Day at Black Rock (inspired by the 1955 film of the same name).
there was a whole OTHER desert art party but this one openly inspired by a CRIME DRAMA?
so anyway several of these desert events of varying artistic and seasonal relevance got merged and grew through word of mouth, Wikipedia gives this insane sentence
1991 was also the year that art model and fire dancer (and later Burning Man's first art director) Crimson Rose attended the event.
this is very much something that started small
There were about 20 participants the first year, and approximately 100 in the second and third year. The annual, several weeks-long event, was held over summer Solstice at various fertile hot springs surrounding the desert. Participants built art and participated in self-directed performances.
and only became a public event in the mid 90s
Some key organizers of Burning Man were also part of Desert Siteworks [...] Hence, the two events saw much cross-pollination of ideas and participants.[...] 1996 was the first year a formal partnership was created to own the name "Burning Man" and was also the last year that the event was held in the middle of the Black Rock Desert with no fence around it.
the year it became a public event 2 deaths happened in the space between camp sites
Harvey insisted that the [crash] had not occurred at Burning Man, since the gates were not yet open. Another couple were run over in their tent by an art car driving to the "rave camp", which was at that time distant from the main camp. After the 1996 event, co-founder and partner John Law broke with Burning Man and publicly said the event should not continue.
so from the late 90s on there's a new location and much more regulations and formal ticket sales, shifting the tone firmly from loose artists commune/solstice bonfire into a more standard festival vibe with the aesthetic qualities of a Mad Max movie.
new rules include:
A grid street structure.
A speed limit of 5 mph (8 km/h)
A ban on driving, except for approved "mutant vehicles" and service vehicles.
Safety standards on mutant vehicles.
Burning of any art must be done on an approved burn platform.
A ban on fireworks.
A ban on animals.
in 2017 someone threw themselves into the flames
in April 2020 covid canceled the event, in September 1000 people tried to hold their own Burning man on a beach and San Francisco's mayor called them reckless and selfish. Similarly some people still showed up to the original location despite it's official cancelation.
in 2021 online events were planned
people showed up to the desert unofficially yet again, even more than in 2020
The Bureau of Land Management implemented restrictions including no structures other than shade structures and no fires other than campfires. There was a massive illuminated drone display outlining the Man instead of the burning of a Man effigy.
the event has had issues of trash, the flames releasing co2, gentrification by silicon Valley, diversity issues
so where we are at now is a lot of clueless and willfully ignorant people, mostly rich, several tech bros, going to an event that used to be an unregulated seasonal arts commune and is now an overpriced photo op with just as much drugs but way less active participation to the point of being like any standard music festival.
and it is in the desert.
and it has flooded for the first time in the event's history due to torrential rain. climate activists trying to block the only route to the event a few days ago make this especially symbolic as an example of dramatic weather conditions.
the mud is solidifying in heavy layers, people are stranded, there are no portable toilets working, they are on limited supplies, they are dressed for a party and celebrities are there and there is a real risk of trenchfoot but no ebola. someone died.
so yes hubris and schadenfreude at the rich people wading through muck during the escalating climate crisis. but also in addition to that a wild event with a wild history for which this is far from the first scandal. there's something to the counterculture and anarchic roots of the event, how they appropriated cultural practices, and how they were commodified in turn. how the pandemic interacted with the messaging of the event, how people with tech money and celebrities got involved, how the event is a particularly flashy and less sympathetic example of climate problems that have been hitting vulnerable communities for years now.

K/S Spring Fever 2023 - Schedule, Rules, Links
Tumblr media
K/S Spring Fever is an annual fest celebrating Kirk/Spock Day via fic, art, vids, and other forms of fannish expression. The fest takes place on the AO3: K/S Spring Fever 2023 Collection.
K/S Day is a fannish holiday that occurs on March 24th. It was first created by The K/S Press in 1997.
Schedule for 2023:
Sign-ups and prompt posts: Jan 1 - Jan 31 Prompt claims and creation period: Jan 1 - March 10 Works due: March 10 Works revealed: March 22 Creators revealed: March 26
The time for all these steps is: 12:01AM UTC.
FAQ:
Why is K/S Day on March 24th?
William Shatner's birthday is March 22nd, Leonard Nimoy's birthday March 26th. K/S Day was originally based on the pattern of Presidents' Day in the U.S. which takes place on the third Monday of February every year. When fans invented K/S Day in 1997, the idea was to pick the Monday closest to Shatner's and Nimoy's birthdays, and that happened to be Monday, March 24th. While President's Day is not on a fixed date each year but can move a few days back and forth depending on the date of the third Monday of February, K/S Day is always celebrated on the 24th of March; it just makes things easier.
Wait, I thought there's a K/S Day in September?
In 2009, K/S fans on social media declared September 15th as K/S Day, as this was the original air date of Amok Time in 1967. It is likely that they had no idea that this fannish holiday had already been created a decade earlier. September 15th is therefore the date most likely associated with K/S Day on Twitter and Tumblr. K/S Spring Fever takes place in time for K/S Day #1, but we wholeheartedly welcome the existence of a K/S Day #2. There can never be too many days to celebrate the delight of K/S! ;-)
Do I have to be on Dreamwidth in order to take part in this fest?
No, a DW account is not required. We have a community on Dreamwidth for announcements and discussion, but schedules and important admin posts will always be publicly visible. The only account you really need for this fest is an AO3 account. You are, of course, encouraged to post/link to your work anywhere you like to after creator reveals; so if you prefer to share your art, for example, on Twitter or Tumblr for greater exposure, then you can crosspost it there as soon as the anon period is over.
Is this a fic exchange?
No. K/S Spring Fever is a prompt meme, that means participants will not get matched one-on-one and assigned to a gift recipient as is the case in exchanges. So no one is guaranteed a "gift", but there's also much less pressure on participants. Members sign up and post prompts until the defined deadline (see the schedule). Prompts can be claimed by anyone who has an account on the AO3, and the resulting fanworks need to be posted to the collection until the deadline according to schedule. If you need more detailed information on how a prompt meme works (e.g. how to edit your prompts, where to find your claimed prompts etc), please see this section in the AO3 FAQ.
Do I need to be signed up to claim & fill a prompt? What if I missed the sign-up phase?
Admittedly, the term "sign-up" is a tiny bit misleading. The "sign-up" form is for submitting your prompts; if you would like to claim & fill prompts without submitting a prompt yourself, then you do not need to go through the "sign-up" form. Just browse the list of prompts other fans submitted and use the "claim" button to pick whatever tickles your muse. When you claim a prompt it shows up under "My claims" on the collection profile and under "Claims" on your own dashboard. Use the "fulfil" button to post your work, please.
"Spring fever"? Is this a pon farr fest?
Your fanwork does not need to include fever (pon farr or not) or spring. There is no theme for this fest apart from its focus on Kirk and Spock. Feel free to go wild with your prompts.
Rules:
1. K/S Spring Fever is an event for adults as some prompts or fanworks might be mature or explicit. By taking part you confirm that you are 18 or older.
2. The focus of your work should be on the pairing Kirk/Spock or Kirk & Spock. Slash (romantic and/or sexual relationship) and gen (friendship) are equally welcome. K/S has many layers and aspects, and this day is a celebration of them all. No other pairings will be accepted in this fest.
3. When we say K/S, we mean: both TOS (series and movies) and reboot; Discovery and Strange New Worlds content is also welcome (let's hope we'll get some K/S-worthy material from these series one day). No RPF, please. AUs and mirror universe are welcome.
4. Crossovers between different Trek franchises or between Trek and other media are permitted if the individual prompt states this or actively invites them.
5. All ratings are welcome in this fest. However, when you fill a prompt please stick to the preferred rating of the prompter (if stated in the prompt).
6. All genres welcome, including darker subjects if the prompter asks for them (as long as DNWs are respected). Use the AO3 warnings if applicable.
7. Prompts can be filled by more than one person. You can even fill the same prompt multiple times – the "fulfil" button will show up on the prompt you claimed even if you have already used it for posting a work before.
8. Participants can fill as many prompts as they want to. You can even fill your own prompt.
9. Please list your DNWs (Do-Not-Wants) in the prompt if you want to avoid certain types of content, e.g. rape or character death or specific tropes. We kindly ask you to not abuse the DNW system: keep it short and simple, and don't box in your creator. When you fill a prompt, please respect the DNWs listed in the request.
10. All types of fanworks are welcome in this fest: fic, poetry, filks, art, vids, podfic etc. Made a giant cake with life-size Kirk and Spock marzipan figures? Post the photos.
11. Minimum word count for written fanworks is 100 words. There is no maximum word count. Minimum for art: a doodle or clean sketch (on unlined paper, if you use traditional media); manips are permitted. No banner or icon art, please, unless it accompanies a work of fiction.
12. Fanworks in languages other than English are allowed. As this is not a one-on-one gift exchange, but a prompt fest, fanworks in languages other than English are absolutely permitted and welcome! Each prompt can inspire a wide variety of fanworks, and as long as you respect the DNWs and the maximum rating of the chosen prompt, it’s all fine!
13. Please keep your work anonymous until creator reveals and don't blabber about it on social media. Guessing who wrote what is part of the fun.
14. Works posted to the collection must be new (created for this fest and unpublished) and complete. No WIPs or placeholder uploads! If you post a work with more than one chapter, it must be complete before the due date. Podfics of older and published fics are allowed, as the podfic itself is a new work.
15. We allow extra works to be posted to the collection: If nothing among the submitted prompts tickles your muse, and if you missed the chance of submitting a prompt that you could have filled yourself, then you can still take part in K/S Spring Fever by posting the work directly to the collection, without using any "claim" or "fulfil" button. Make sure to put the correct collection name into the appropriate field during the posting process (e.g. for 2023 the collection name is "KS_SpringFever2023", without the quote marks), so that the work stays unrevealed and anonymous until we go live / until creators are revealed. We think of these extra works as treats for the whole community. However, please do have a good look at the list of prompts before you choose to take this road. There are such lovely prompts waiting for creators to pick them, and this should take priority over treats.
16. Last but not least: Be courteous to the other participants, act in good faith and assume good faith. For all questions, please contact the mod (DW, Tumblr, or email: [email protected]). We are happy to help!

A Few Small Events Happening on Dreamwidth
Posted by: kalloway A few small events and whatnot, many inspired by 3weeks4dreamwidth: Multi-Fandom Writing Prompt Comms & Whatnot 2024 Edition - what it says on the tin, additions quite welcome! (List pruned and posted yearly, additions welcome any time.) There's a friending meme happening over on anime_manga, for anyone looking for more friends into anime, manga, and adjacent fandoms. Group-read (as in, a group all reading, sometimes on a theme, sometimes not) community readingtogether is holding a Minithon until the 15th of May. There's no theme, other than reading and chatting for 3W4DW. Multifandom spring-inspired fanwork community spring_renewal just finished its annual round, and all prompts will be retired at the beginning of the next round. Come check out the prompt list, post for amnesty, and let it be spring all year long. There's a Cygames Prompt Fest happening over here, arguably for 3W4DW but it'll remain open indefinitely. Prompts for any game or anime Cygames is involved are welcome. (Granblue Fantasy, Dragalia Lost, Rage of Bahamut, Bravern, Zombie Land Saga, Priconne, World Flipper, Little Noah, etc.) There's also a new Rec-A-Game Meme, for anyone who'd like video game recommendations. It's been more than a decade since the last one, so it's time. It'll also remain open indefinitely. And lastly, small_fandoms is running its annual Small Fandoms Promofest, which runs from today until May 15th. Come share a bit about your favorite small fandoms or maybe find a new one of your own! comments via The Fandom Calendar https://ift.tt/9dACugj

location — downtown at the vendors
character — @draslihanxfahri-bailey
The by-chance bump into Aslihan had left the pair roaming the various stands on each side of the street. They'd caught up, mostly, but there was still something he wanted to tell her. Something that didn't matter all that much, but a thought he assumed she'd appreciate nonetheless. "Speaking of your exhibit, I had a friend of mine ask me where I'd go if I could pick anywhere in the world." He let the curiosity build between a few steps before a small smile showed on his mouth and his gaze shifted to meet with hers. "I told him that because of our exhibit, I'd want to check out Egypt. There seems to be a lot more to be learned, and what better place to learn it than there?" If he ever got to travel, he'd make it the first stop on his list. Before the other got a chance to answer, Khalil put his arm out towards a food stand. "Do you mind? It's on me. All of this looking has me hungry."

location — lind dairy farm, goat yoga
character — @clarawilmore
Ever since her breakup, she'd avoided yoga on most occasions. Breathing wasn't the solution to everything and neither was a complicated pose. She'd checked the info sheet a hundred times just to make sure his name didn't pop up anywhere and after the hundredth time, she signed up for the course. Not because of the class itself, but because of the goats and the simple fact of supporting two of her closest friends. "The best part are the goats." She couldn't bite back the laugh that spilled from her mouth as she watched everyone settle into their spots. Soon enough, personal space wasn't going to be much of a thing. "Have you done this before? I know they try to make it a whole, but if I'm being honest, I just come to pet some goats and no one ever says anything to me. The yoga could be fun too, I guess?"

How they'd gone from barely looking at one another to willingly spending the day in the other's company was beyond him. Excitement flowed through his veins and dared to consume him whole. Maybe they weren't together, but to walk freely by her side without the worry of who would see them? It was refreshing. To know that in the end, they'd gotten the very thing he'd wanted more than anything, even if he'd ran far and fast in hopes of keeping her marriage intact. As it turned out, it wasn't him after all that kept it from being fixed. "You won't get me on any of those damn coasters. I'm serious. Don't even try to get up on that ferris wheel either. I'm only here for the food." There was a funnel cake stand somewhere close and between rides and that, he'd gravitate towards the sweet smell every single time. He stole a few looks in her direction, a crooked smile kept at bay on his mouth as he forced his gaze ahead of him. "You look nice." A compliment, unwarranted and most certainly underwhelming by comparison to what he wanted to say.

His chest ached from the night before, sleep deprivation daring to catch up with him as he waited for his fresh cut fries to come out. He heard a familiar voice near him, leaving the taller male to turn, gaze catching the handsome grin of the very person he should have been conflicted to see. Except he wasn't, not even in the slightest of ways. In fact, he was almost excited to have another run in with the very person he'd connected to with utter ease. "Hey you," he called out, hands deep in the front pockets of his jeans. Suddenly, he wasn't all that hungry, even if the smell had nearly driven him mad moments earlier. "How's it going? You here with someone, or can I steal you away for a bit? Fresh fries included. I'll even let you pick a condiment."

Despite knowing there was still another half hour before the yoga kicked off and the farm opened up to the public, Nadia was pulling up anyway with two coffees in her center cup holders — one for him, and of course, one for her. She'd sent a text alerting him of her arrival and within a few moments, she was smiling wide as he came into view. "I figured you could use a pick me up before the big day gets started. I was thinking about sticking around for the goat yoga too. I've heard a lot of people talking about today. Who knew goat yoga was such a hit?"
