A sneak peek into my soul
Yes, this is another Onion Layer Post!
As per request, by my friends and readers ... these posts are for you to get to know me better.
My writing ... I have been writing/storytelling since I was a kid. When I was eight I know I wanted to be a published author. I just had too many stories that were floating in my head even as a kid. When I was younger I did entertain a few of my friends with my wild imagination and storytelling.
I have never had writer’s block. On the contrary, my ideas flow like an open faucet that you can’t turn off. Constantly bombarded with snippets of conversations, scenes and characters. I even dream up things while I sleep.
I have however, fell into the trap of writing/editing/writing when working on a first draft, as a result it took me 20 years to finish my first novel (a Sci-Fi Space Opera). After hearing Stephen King say the first draft is supposed to be crap and it’s you telling yourself the story. Rewriting comes after the first draft is completed.  I had scrapped everything and started fresh and had written my first draft of my first novel (over 80,000 words) within 22 days. It was exhilarating! I was hooked! I found my method.
Since then I have done four series. The one that I have on the go now is the Maddox Files (full-length novels) and the spin-off Dice Maddox (novellas). The Maddox Files follows my main character Dice Maddox at 26/27 as she gets back into the P. I. business after taking a four-year break when her uncle and partner had died. The Dice Maddox novella series is a spin-off of when Dice is 20 years old and working with her Uncle Eric, learning the ropes. Dice Maddox was created as a test bunny for me to try out self-publishing and I have to say I have fallen in love with this character. She is a bit like myself when I was younger and I love throwing her into these crazy cases.

Writing for me is like breathing. If I don’t do it for a while I get moody, edgy and distracted.
I see myself writing well into my old age. My goal is to reach over 500 novels within the next 10 to 15 years.
A short list of Prolific Authors (over 500 books written)
Ishtiaq Ahmed (1944-2015) wrote over 800 spy thriller crime series
Edwy S. Brooks (1889-1965) wrote over 800 books
Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) wrote 506 books
Ursula Bloom (1892-1984) wrote over 500 books
Enid Blyton (1897-1968) wrote over 600 books
Barbara Cartland (1901-2000) wrote 722 books (holds the Guinness World Record for the most novels (23) written in a single year!)
John Creasey (1908-1973) wrote more than 600 books
Howard R. Garis (1873-1962) wrote over 500 books.
Prentiss Ingraham (1843-1904) wrote 600 books
Kathleen Lindsay (1903-1973) wrote over 900 books
Paul Little (1915-1987) wrote over 700 books
Jacob Neusner (1932-) wrote over 900 books
Lauran Paine (1916-2003) wrote over 900 books
Georges Simenon (1903-1989) wrote over 500 books
R. L. Stine (1948-) wrote over 500 books
Ryoki Inoue (1946-) wrote over 1000 books (Wrote almost a thousand novels in 6 years)
This short list is proof these things can be done. If anything I am very determined. When you find your calling it is the most amazing gift. You are not in competition with anyone else but yourself.
I am reminded of Malcolm Gladwell’s book “Outliers” if you haven’t read ... I highly recommend it.

Hope you enjoyed this post.

Why don't more people like Okki? I'm really confused he's a giant seriously awkward teddybear 😍
Good question. It’s something I have pondered over for as long as I’ve known Okki (which is like a few months but that doesn’t mean anything)
Here’s why more people should like Okki:
Reason 1
Reason 2
Here’s why people don’t like Okki so much:
In short:
He’s not a typical beauty
He doesn’t have a special talent,
His personality can be very, very cringeworthy
In long: Teddy Bear is a flawed idol
Another long analysis ahead~
EDIT: It seems that my cut wasn’t working. WHAI.
Point 1: Not a typical beauty
Just compare Okki to the rest of the Messiah casts and you can see how he sticks out like a sore thumb: mainly his large body frame, and his more masculine face features. While the other actors can easily pull off dressing as females (and some indeed have), I dare you to imagine Okki doing the same XD
The main selling point of actors is ultimately their looks. And what sells nowadays is the godly androgynous look (and body) that unfortunately Okki doesn’t have those.
Not saying that Okki is ugly or anything. He’s blessed with such a youthful face, and he takes very good care of his body. Okki’s a dragon fruit, but people demand strawberries.
Point 2: Nothing special
In the world of stage play where hundreds or thousands of actors have very beautiful faces, being a pretty boy alone is definitely not enough. If your looks alone are not good enough to charm, you have to make it up with talent.
I’ll take Tenimyu for example, the stage play that has churned many amateurs into stars for the past decade. For dancing, we have Nakagauchi Masataka, Aiba Hiroki or Sasaki Yoshihide. For singing, we have KIMERU, KENN, Kato Kazuki, Shirota Yuu, or Mamoru Miyano. These guys are beautiful, but their talents help them to stand out against the equally or even more gorgeous actors
(My personal bias includes Nakayama Masei, Mikata Ryosuke, and Onoda Ryunosuke. The first two are ikemens without special talents, the last one is a very talented guy with not-so-ikemen look. And none of them are in any way ‘popular’ compared to the names I listed above)
So, back to Okki. He can dance, but it’s nowhere near godly, and unfortunately dancing doesn’t look as good with a body his size. He can sing, tolerably. That leaves us to the last point: personality.
Point 3: Cringeworthy personality
This is a list of recommendations that come up when you search for Okki’s name:
Tumblr media
Besides his roles, the ones that come up include ‘crybaby’ and ‘airhead’
Ok, that’s not so bad, right? I mean Okki can totally pull off a crybaby with that adorably cute baby face of his. And airhead actors are not despised or anything (Matsuda Ryo also called himself an airhead).
But Okki is also the ‘bullied’ character. I believe this is where it gets polarizing.
I wrote a bit on Okki’s character (Yamaoki Yuuki Analysis) before, explaining this ‘bullied’ character along with his seriousness. What I didn’t mention was that I find Okki’s personality to be fake.
Fake is a very harsh word. ‘Tailored’ would be more precise.
From what I see, Okki always, always tailors his words and actions to please others, whether it be his workmates or his fans. From how he apologizes when his fellow actors are teasing him, to how he makes sure to post pictures of every single one of his fan letters and gifts. These are very obvious attempt from Okki to please people. And while I can only speculate how much of this is really his true personality, it can come across as fake.
Crying because of a surprise birthday party? Oh come on, he’s overreacting. Apologizing when his turn to speak was jokingly skipped by the MC? He can’t read the mood. Liking every single fan comment on his twitter? He’s just desperate for fans.
However, rather than being fake, I see Okki as someone who is actually very afraid of being socially isolated, but also equally afraid of becoming too close, and the cringe worthiness of his actions are the result of him trying too hard to balance this scale. There is no scene in Tenimyu where he tried to appeal to fans by being very close to his doubles partner. So far there is zero post regarding his Messiah, his 'partner for life’ (Ryoki has posted one). Even though it’s common knowledge now that fangirls like it when actors get 'close’, Okki has never deliberately posted any (except this particularly interesting one).
I like Nagae Ryoki because he’s a very pretty, talented, witty little kid. That’s who I wish I can become. I like Akazawa Tomoru and Ono Kento and Matsuda Ryo. Those are the people I wish I’m friends with. I like Izawa Yuuki and Hamao Kyosuke because they’re freaking handsome from head to toe.
But I freaking love Okki because he’s none of the above. He’s awkward; very, extremely bad at speaking without a script; and a total cry baby. He’s not a dancing machine or a singing goddess. He may be blessed with eternal youth, but he has to struggle for everything else. You may be able to find someone like him in your school or your neighborhood. Yet the fact that Okki is where he is now and not some nobody makes him very endearing. It’s what makes me like him so much.
Tumblr media
To conclude, this Teddy Bear is a flawed idol. Not the socially acceptable flawsome kind, but actual flaws that many struggle against: A body size that is larger than normal, a non-androgynous face that looks younger than most (for good and for bad), and socializing issues. In Japan, being different is bad. Not so much in the international fandom, but these flaws form Okki’s character and…some people just don’t idolize someone who shares their weaknesses. After all, to idolize someone is to look up to that person. We like zero to hero, but not so much 0 to 0.5.
It’s really just a matter of preferences :D
I hope I answered your question. Thank you for reading this far. Here, have an Okki being cute~
Tumblr media
One of these days I’m gonna publish a freaking biographical essay on Okki, just you wait and see XD
