Apothecary diaries episode 5 analysis
I just finished watching episode 5 of The Apothecary Diaries, and I had to put my thoughts down. This episode addresses two big questions I’ve had about this show. The first is how in-depth they were going to go with the social inequalities of women, especially in Qing China. The second is when Jinshi was going to go full feminine.
Ming-Qing China, which the show is primarily set around (though it takes inspiration from multiple periods, this one being the major influence), was horrible towards women. They had little to no rights, and by Confucianist principles, women were automatically considered lower than men and were expected to stay in their place for the sake of a happy and peaceful society. So, Maomao being able to make medicine and take on a "man's" job didn't make sense—especially in a show that actively discusses women's struggles in the palace and the inequalities they face. The fact that they acknowledge Maomao isn't supposed to be making medicine and that she’s going against the status quo (which was likely a law, though I'm not entirely sure) adds a sense of weight to it—this is serious.
This show beautifully balances being silly and lighthearted while still addressing serious issues that continue to affect people in our modern world. Maomao is obviously incredibly smart—she has saved three high-ranking officials/consorts from assassination, solved multiple mysteries, and maintained peace in the inner palace. And yet, despite all of this, she still isn't allowed to make medicine simply because of her gender. She has to do it in secret, even though some of the most powerful people in the empire benefit from it. At this point, I’m pretty sure the emperor knows she makes medicine since she doesn’t really try to keep it a secret, but she’s still not technically permitted. Meanwhile, she has made about ten times the impact of that quack doctor (still love him, though).
Ever since season 1, when Maomao put makeup on Jinshi, I have been waiting for this moment. And it did not disappoint—he looked so pretty. But looking at the historical context, it was surprising to see him not fight against the idea. Crossdressing in China was not common, especially in Ming China, which stood firmly by Confucianist principles. The only place it was seen was in theater, which might be why Jinshi didn’t seem too bothered by it—he may have just thought of it as performance art, plus the fact that only Maomao and the envoys were going to see him. He seems to take his job very seriously, despite holding more power than his role technically entails.
But off-topic—why is Jinshi so beautiful? In the most recent episode, Maomao literally described how immensely stunning he is. At first, it seemed like this would clash with the toxic masculinity of old China, but it actually makes sense. In historical China, powerful men were often praised for having refined and delicate features while also being charming. The Apothecary Diaries also emphasizes how beauty is a source of power—especially for the consorts. Along with this, Jinshi is (probably) of royal blood (I haven’t read the manga, but it seems likely). Princes and princesses were expected to be beautiful because they came from an esteemed bloodline—though honestly, I mostly think it’s because emperors just had kids with beautiful women.
I'm so excited for the next episode. I’m pretty sure this season is supposed to have 24 episodes, so my brain is going to be very distracted and working on overdrive until it finishes.

also the last part of the convo before jumping to the next chapter and cutting to mayvin, has sorey (and mikleo present) asking zaveid about dragons... and once again, edna is kept out of the conversation about her family's fate
this part of the novel is implied to be the equivalent of the skits from the game where sorey talks to zaveid about siegfried, when they come to the conclusion that maybe they could cut the malevolence from eizen that way. even if we don't get the actual conversation, a part gets later recalled while fighting tiamat, and then also:
「ドラゴンを元に戻す方法を見つけたかった。エドナに約束したとおりに。 結局それを見つけることはできなかった。いや、正確には見つけたのだ。しかしその方法を選べば、今度はマオテラスとヘルダルフの繫がりを絶てなくなる。」
"sorey wanted to find a way to turn dragons back to normal; after all, that's what he had promised edna. however, in the end, he couldn't find one. no... to be more exact, he did find it, but doing that would mean he'd have no way to sever heldalf and maotelus' bond."
edna (much like in the game) is, unless she came to the same conclusion on her own after watching dezel, not only left unaware of this possibility, but also gets to accept sorey's decision of killing tiamat and by association of what to do with eizen in the span of a few lines - this comes in conflict with the game, where the earliest point you can climb rayfalke to kill eizen is the next morning after you already have defeated tiamat and left lastonbell: you finally have the orb tiamat dropped that will stop eizen from healing himself, and it's only after the night before the last battle in lastonbell that edna will stop abandoning your party whenever you attempt to fight eizen
for obvious, chronological reasons, fighting tiamat and edna saying not only that she accepts whatever sorey decides to do but even calls it actually 'keeping the promise' of saving eizen, also comes before the aforementioned lastonbell scene where zaveid highlights in the game that edna doesn't really believe yet death is salvation... scene that's conspicuously absent in the novel: there's only a comment from someone else in the party saying they saw edna earlier stabbing zaveid with the umbrella, and the conversations you actually get are alterations of lailah&rose's and mikleo&sorey's
after this, either way, they promptly forget about doing anything with eizen, because the novel follows the main plot and eizen is an optional sq, so the seraphim go on their typical borderline suicidal mission against heldalf and whatever happens with eizen is... ???
it feels a bit weird to just leave things hanging like that, even though i understand why it happens: the bulk of the story can be perfectly told without tackling eizen because he is an optional fight (the same happens with theodora in the berseria manga where she survives. maybe the novel too, i'd need to recheck), so all adaptations end up sparing him by inaction... all but the anime of course. that one deviates the most from the original work and takes a different route in which eizen starts recovering his conscience on his own and is implied to turn back as a seraph eventually, according to japanese sources that attribute the quote to a scriptwriter (ufotable's kondo) saying that, because eizen's motto is all about taking the rudder of the ship of your life, it suited him to do that as malevolence was lowered world-wide instead of sorey purifying him. it's basically an au, but it feels he ends up saved more as a happy accident than with active work towards it
anyway i kinda forgot where was i going with this but tl;Dr i appreciate a lot of details that were changed or added from the adaptations, but what they end up doing with edna (and eizen and zaveid by association. bad idea to make two main characters rely so much on a third secondary one. no i still don't know why they made eizen the game's logo) is often not one of them because of how much it falls short. there's really not an adaptation that will make this plot point, and therefore edna and zaveid's main reason to join the group, justice. i was driven to the adaptations with the hope of seeing some very obviously rushed parts of the game actually polished, and this was one even if (as i've said some other times) it were to still end in eizen's death: i'd prefer if he lived and edna wasn't made miserable for hundreds of years for nothing, but my main problem is really on the execution. and in the end... i don't know. i suppose the only thing i feel is disappointment at how much the characters will be bend over just to suit a specific script beat, without the actual work to get there, which is the same problem from the original game. i remember a certain zestiria scriptwriter saying this game followed a character-driven type of structure but... it doesn't. it should, but it's not really that, and no matter how many times it's repeated, it won't become true
#anyway here goes my usual tag for muting purposes ->#THAT™#idk i really don't think the sq and therefore edna's acceptance is well done in the game either#because it's basically 'conveniently edna believes exactly what sorey/zaveid do even though the rest of the entire game she clings to hope'#and i can't believe on her changing her mind so fast. maybe if the conversation in lastonbell was longer but#she's still shocked and asking about the promise when you climb up rayfalke so i don't think much more serious stuff was said#it's just that the bar was this low and even so...#i think i prefer the manga to the novel though. in a lot of things#zestbers talk#i didn't want to talk too long about this before because my memory is bad and i wasn't sure if i ever finished reading the 2nd volume#or i just skipped through it to see if the sq was written to learn it was like the manga#(aka they don't cover it and eizen is spared through inaction)#but now it's fresh in my mind and i have the whole picture... yeah#man everytime i go back to zestiria i really just get disappointed with this huh#kai dont look

studying for dummies
- fushiguro megumi x reader
you have an important exam coming up and are having a hard time to study. luckily, your boyfriend knows how to make you feel better
genre/warnings: college au, total fluff !!!
notes: i love writing college aus for megumi bc he never got the chance to in that cursed manga called jjk :') to the nonnie who asked for this, i knew i have to write it when i received your ask ehe <3
general masterlist
"Why is this so hard..."
Megumi turned to you, sliding his headphones off with a questioning look when he heard you sigh once again, plopping your head down on the textbook. "What if I don't make it? What if I have to repeat a year? Ugh..."
Megumi continued to stare at you, with a flat expression. "So long as you study, you'll pass."
You threw him a sullen look, irked. "I know that! But studying itself is hard!"
The graduation exam was fast approaching and everyone in your grade was losing their head for a reason. Well, not your boyfriend though. While you were busy cramming your poor brain with ethics and physics in his apartment, Megumi was leisurely stuffing his ears with his headphones and catching up to the latest chapter of his favorite manga, without any care of the impending doom.
"You have to take breaks," he scolded then, truly meaning well. "You can't go on without food or rest. And don't overthink it, I'm sure you'll—"
"That's easy for you to say, Megumi—you're a natural genius," you interjected, crestfallen. The stress of failing several tryouts just got to you before you realized it. "Unlike you, I'm a dummy. I have to actually study."
Megumi remained quiet, watching as you turned back to your textbook, determined to give it another shot. Seeing your discouraged expression, something in his heart softened slightly.
And in that moment, he knew what he had to do to lift your spirits up.
He walked over to the little kitchen in his apartment to whip you some lunch, and throughout it all, you were still fixated on your studies, occasionally talking to yourself.
"Can Yuji even solve this problem...? I can take being called dumb but surely I can't be worse than him!"
Megumi found it amusing that you used his best friend as your benchmark for passing. Your way of expressing it brought out a low chuckle from him. How adorable.
Many were wondering what made him to date you—Fushiguro Megumi was always on the top of his class, stoic and indifferent, while you were just... you, a go-getter with cheerful personality that made up most of your academic shortcomings.
To Megumi, you were like a ball of sunshine that he didn't know he needed though. And now, wanted to protect.
While you were still lost in your thoughts and tangled up in physics concepts, he came back to you, gently patting your shoulder. "Hey, I made lunch. Want to join me?"
And needless to say, your eyes lit up with literal stars as you whipped your head towards him. "Yeah!"
Seeing you that excited made something inside Megumi soar. He had always been fond of your smiling face. Watching the fatigue melted a bit from you as you sat down in front of him, a subtle smile found its way onto his lips as well.
"Ooh, hotpot! Megumi, thank you!"
"Yeah, yeah..."
"Mmm! This is tasty!"
"Mm-hmm, have your fill."
You were giddy as you finished your lunch. It was evident that he had prepared the hotpot with your preferences in mind, choosing almost all of your favorite ingredients.
And you were feeling daring now that you knew that he was keeping you in his thoughts.
"Megumi, if I can score higher than 70% in that exam..." you started, smile gradually widening. "Can we celebrate it by going on an overnight trip to Kyushu afterwards? You know... just a little something to look forward to..."
Your boyfriend immediately fixed you with his unwavering gaze, even with his cheeks still filled with rice. But he didn't dwell on it long as he nodded lightly. "Sure."
"Really?!" you beamed, totally bursting with excitement. "Eeep! Megumi! You’re the best!"
How could he ever say no to you when your eyes were literally shimmering with glitters? Megumi never had it in him to. And hey, a trip for two to commemorate your graduation sounded so nice too, it was actually making him eager.
And so, with your tummy full and energy recharged, you enthusiastically redid your mock-up exam. And when you got 90% this time, Megumi actually initiated the first move and pulled you into his lap, giving you a light smooch on the cheek.
“Whoa...” you were so ready to tease him, poking his pink-tinted cheeks. “Do I get a kiss for every mock-up exam well done now?”
He huffed—flushing, turning away with slight frown. “To give you something to look forward to, remember?”

absolutely losing my mind because of these two!!!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0e924ce4db19723e8e0a7722bb60c7f1/f4d15af82f6da09f-c1/s540x810/b05a6d47cbbed0855d203a8326c2f888c0c0c5ba.jpg)
so.
are these two actually toxic, or are they just kids who don't know how to communicate? easy, they're just kids! (this was fast)
reading the manga will not make you understand that (or im just stupid), and this is why I'm thanking the author on.my.knees for the spin-off!
so.
after watching the anime I fled to ao3, of course. read some works about Rin and Isagi, managed to not spoil myself anything.
then i read the U20 arc. after reading every ryusae I could find (writing one myself rn, doing god's work) I finished to read the manga cause, yk, I wanted to know what would happen with my babies and then boom! Reo and Nagi!!!
I didn't particularly care about them at first: Nagi was strong ofc, but kind of boring? he's not my favourite archetype, and while I loved Reo I hated their fight and wanted nothing to do with them. key word(s), at first.
then, then! I randomly read some fics about them cause they'd started to grow on me, and boom, tons of fics about their breakup/makeup. stunning works, ofc, but I started to see so many "Reo's fault" "Nagi's fault" "toxic relationship" that I kind of started to get uncomfortable (sometimes people throw around the word toxic when it's nothing like that), so what's to do? read the spin off ofc.
that I did, and now not only I love them both with all of my heart, but I'm Reo's number one fan (and kinnie)!
and I developed a deep hatred for those "toxic x" theories and takes. SO. let me blabber and rant.
they love each other so much!!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c9a02ae5916da4ee71fa99f49853a8ad/f4d15af82f6da09f-ae/s540x810/63b3e55cd1afee7e37e56c8670c7d7adb1ba2b16.jpg)
this is Nagi.
he thinks "damn, soccer/football is a pain, I hate sweating and running, but I don't hate Reo" even though most of the time he spends with Reo is spent playing soccer/football (I won't choose one english is so confusing- in italian it's literally called kick).
he doesn't feel forced to be Reo's friend, he likes it.
because Reo loves him, it's as simple as that.
he wants to be Nagi's friend "despite" Nagi's personality: this is something he currently says through the spin-off, which made me cry- Reo truly is the first person who ever accepted Nagi as someone who is lazy and unmotivated, who complains a lot, who doesn't put any effort in what he does, who doesn't offer much.
Or at least he thinks that he doesn't have anything special to offer, until Reo arrives.
he still has those terribly self-deprecating thoughts, but now he has something to offer, his talent.
(and after a period of happiness, their honeymoon phase one could call it, he starts to doubt the sincerity of Reo's care. from thinking "i'm not his slave, i'm his partner" he starts to doubt Reo's honesty: "maybe he only wanted to be my friend because of my talent, a talent he knows how to use"- since he still thinks that he's got nothing to offer! but we will talk about this later.)
this is Reo!
he thinks "I wanted to be the one who could make you love soccer/football, the one able to light up something in you" but he also thinks "seeing you like that, even if it wasn't me who'd done that, made me happy".
he's so jealous he's almost funny, and isn't that the most teenager thing ever?
who wouldn't be jealous after working so hard to be special to someone, just for someone else to take the place you're working so hard for?
it's terrible, but still, it doesn't stop Reo from being happy that Nagi found something exciting.
something that made Nagi as happy as the combo Nagi-soccer/football made Reo happy.
the thing is, Nagi thinks he's Reo's friend because of his talent, which maybe it's true. maybe, hadn't Nagi been a genius, they wouldn't have become friends, but his talent was the sparkle that made him become Reo's treasure.
Reo is someone who has everything, who gets everything he wants, or as he says everything except what he really wants.
for that, he has to work.
so, what he wants is to play soccer/football, and to play it with Nagi.
(in order to be Nagi's friend, he needs to work hard, because he needs to be honest and gain Nagi's trust- this is how friendship works: even when it seems flawless and easy, there's so much work behind it, and knowing it is important. most of the times we only realise it once we lost that bond- for example, Nagi. Reo already knew it, and this is why he tried so hard to not leave Nagi's side)
at one point, the two things became linked to one another, and his dream turns into "winning with Nagi, my partner". Because Nagi is talented, is special, and Reo saw his talent, and how Nagi was unable to do the same. He wants to show Nagi that soccer/football is fun, that his talent isn't a pain, that he is special, because Nagi doesn't know it, and for Reo a star that doesn't see his its own light? is just preposterous.
He cares for Nagi and loves everything about him, even all the "bad" things, and he doesn't think that Nagi has to change, and this is what, for me, makes their break-up way more serious and relatable for a lot of people.
it triggers a "I'll change to be better" "for me you never had to change" "I need to change for myself" dynamic.
2. changing and longing is way more fun when you're doing it together!!!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c6c9c653b4152d3c556cd47d1b0270f7/f4d15af82f6da09f-6f/s1280x1920/5e2c5c5f52309349fdc6c30c93140f732651a996.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/50ac69ef29984f44c84088247f024cbc/f4d15af82f6da09f-09/s640x960/8276f91827e55a7f07d3c051a9ec0b0dab50791e.jpg)
so they split up.
Nagi doesn't do it because he likes Isagi more, or because his style of play is more interesting, he does it because Isagi was stronger than Nagi and Reo: entering Blue Lock, Nagi had trust in Reo's ability to use his talent to win, he didn't even think about failing, and while Barou came close to making him feel like he could loose, Nagi overpowered him at the end- but then Isagi beats Nagi, and Reo with him.
Nagi understands that Reo's dream can't become reality if they aren't the strongest, and if being together doesn't work, maybe they should split up, part ways, become stronger and then join forces again, and win everything. win the world cup.
while his friendship with Isagi is sweet and I love them, for Nagi Isagi is like a cyclette.
he'll use the cyclette to get get fit and make his bf swoon over his legs, he won't stay with the cyclette once he doesn't need the training anymore. and even if he will, it will always be just the cyclette he uses to get fit "for" his bf.
(metaphor isn't metaphoring)
Reo doesn't know that.
he knows he's strong, but he knows that Isagi and Nagi are on a whole other level and he feels threatened. he fears that Nagi will choose Isagi instead of him, and he tries desperately to not loose Nagi.
Nagi is his dream. Slowly, day after day, Nagi became part of his dream, and now he's losing not only his best friend but the dream that made him free.
Reo says it himself- he knows that Nagi did the smartest thing by leaving, but he's young and scared and sees it as Nagi leaving him.
He feels abandoned, and he thinks that Nagi is abandoning his dream to go with the bigger fish, the apex predator, in order to become the best striker, by forgetting the promises they made at the start of Blue Lock, to stay together til the end.
Neither of them forgets the other.
Nagi leaves, and all he thinks about it "I need Reo to see this" "I can't wait to let him see how much I've improved", and he misses Reo, just as much as Reo misses him.
the only difference?
Reo is oblivious about Nagi's real feelings and thought process, and his thinking of Nagi turns into spiraling into depression and self-hatred.
so Nagi changes.
he starts to see the beauty in soccer/football, he finally sees what Reo had tried to make him see for months, and he's thrilled. he's having fun. he's grateful that Reo convinced him to not discard Blue Lock immediately. he's different.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/617d8b4c4d4c83d8cd305ca5ca8025f5/f4d15af82f6da09f-6f/s540x810/95f5307fcb4e5b4b84b03fea8bf66279b2a55215.jpg)
different why? because Isagi beat him? because Blue Lock happened?
he changed not when Isagi beat them, but the moment he became Reo's friend, and found a reason to do something.
because Reo was the first person to ever tell him that his laziness, boredom, his oh so troublesome antics were alright, that he was what he was, and he was enough not only for Reo, but for the whole world.
Reo accepted him even when he was set on being static, made him want to change, and now that he's changing he feels worthy of being loved so much.
"you saw something in me back then, you forced to me work hard, and now thanks to you I ('m on my way to) realised my own worth, now I found something exciting"
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ed92433885e0187ba747861c43162443/f4d15af82f6da09f-de/s540x810/7893ae52d33f51a4a2fa101780808584341a0511.jpg)
he changes.
Reo sees him after what, a few days, and he's already improved so much.
and he thinks that he was Nagi's cage, his personal dead weight, that Nagi may have been his treasure but he wasn't Nagi's. that Nagi doesn't need him anymore. if Nagi doesn't need him, what will be of his dream?
(we could start a long-ass post ab mental health and recovering but I won't for my own sanity)
what's his worth then, since he got into Blue Lock just to stay with Nagi till the end- especially when he can't even be number two, with Isagi there- and Nagi won't be with him anymore?
he needs to change too.
3. destroying yourself in order to change (no fun)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a43a8e0006f7cabfca13668929704c98/f4d15af82f6da09f-6e/s540x810/cd2d4cce94d19d98e861a4eadf78ceb4b0eaae57.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e683fff1b8fed2aab2e2dc33bed5be5e/f4d15af82f6da09f-6e/s540x810/377cbc81507bb65a4c9fec4379af87c8d348d754.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/88696cb6265eb6ddc617cb1b5cd7d22a/f4d15af82f6da09f-d0/s540x810/428b48d2074efeb042bf27f7d48df97c7575ea6c.jpg)
Reo says that he isn't brave enough to destroy himself like the others do.
Isagi, Barou, Nagi, Chigiri, they all destroy themselves in order to become stronger and change, evolve, but Reo can't. he's scared, he's confused, the whole arc is just him looking like that. then what does he do?
he lets Nagi destroy him. "If I can't do it, Nagi will" don't you understand you're doing exactly what you say you're unable to do? the fact that you're not the one pulling the trigger doesn't mean that you're not killing yourself
he pushes Nagi until he snaps and tells Reo to fuck off, that he's a pain, that he's weak and someone Nagi doesn't want anything to do with, because that's what Reo thinks.
He thinks Nagi doesn't want to be with him anymore, he's feeling guilty for what he thought (later later), he's insecure- and instead of being reasonable, he founds a way to confirm his "irrational" fears.
"I'm not being insecure since Nagi confirmed it"
he sabotages himself. that's the nail in the coffin.
instead of destroying himself with football/soccer, by learning from a lost match, he destroys himself with life, by putting on the line his relationship with the person he (not exaggerating) loves most in the world.
he's unable to distinguish life from soccer/football (and this will be the aspect that makes him so different from most of the other characters), because since meeting Nagi they've become one thing. soccer/football is his life, Nagi is his life, because they're his only chance at being happy.
(Nagi is able to distinguish between the court and Reo: this way, Reo is just as special as Isagi is, since Isagi may have made him see the fun in soccer/football, but Reo made him get angry. Nagi who thinks that his strong quality is the fact he never gets angry, that he's a pacifist. Isagi is his soccer/football revolution, Reo is his life revolution.
Reo can't. they all insult each other on the field, but they're all friends afterwards. not Reo. not yet)
now he's lost Nagi, and his dream, and he has to pick himself up from the ground.
this is how Reo changes.
4. miscommunication is a beast
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/30a44f6b827c352d6c5d11f14751cab2/f4d15af82f6da09f-58/s540x810/5d230d6303cc1ab2ed24bec0e0bd179409857a8b.jpg)
As I said before, Nagi starts to think that Reo only cared about him because of his talent. he's angry at Reo. he doesn't understand why Reo said those things, why he was so stupid, why he didn't understand Nagi.
he says "I'm not his toy" and he isn't, but really, try to get into his shoes.
he thinks his partner, his best friend, doesn't believe in them as a duo anymore, doesn't want to believe in them like he used to now that Nagi has changed, now that he's more "independent" from Reo.
"what, now that I know how to fight alone, he doesn't want me anymore?" that would be anyone's first thought.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4b72c822c497d71a9bd7c8442e594bac/f4d15af82f6da09f-6d/s540x810/4b4d089ad51a2a5cd075035ffe6484c9501c3181.jpg)
and he doubts Reo's trust in their dream.
when did Reo start to have so little faith in them, in Nagi? when did he give up on them? he thinks that, after spending weeks trying to improve just to make Reo's dream true.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b19c6372c065815f04a573ead18a2284/f4d15af82f6da09f-bf/s540x810/389b307a9213d1a50fd5ffde0993ac5f5f38b499.jpg)
and he's angry, but he still hopes to play with Reo again.
he still want to, because him and Reo are partners and Nagi still believes in their dream. because he remembers Reo's passion, and he believes in him.
+) 5. being relatable as fuck
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/23ab3400429bdb37fa0fca75fee892b5/f4d15af82f6da09f-e1/s540x810/d4bb7631941c5cb761947e6a4787c2159428f96a.jpg)

(what kid with absent/abusive parents never thought back on their action and went anxiously all "Am I just like them?")
Reo begs Nagi to stop being so strong, stop improving so quickly, stop running towards a place Reo can't reach yet, and isn't this a human thing to do? He desperately wants to be with Nagi, and thinks that he'd rather stop him from improving rather than lose him. He thinks "Please, give up on your dream, your ego"- and isn't that familiar?
he just thought the same thing his father, a man he hates and despises and who doesn't believe in Reo, told him. and he said that to Nagi. Nagi who gave him a ticket to the top by being at his side, who let him see hope.
he panics. am I just like him? Am I cruel enough to wish for someone to give up on their dreams, just to get something out of their failure?
he's different from his father, because he's seventeen, he's scared to lose his best friend, and we can be irrational in situations like this one. does he know it? no, the same way he doesn't understand that Nagi didn't left because of him.
so yes, he's in the worst head-space ever.
isn't he relatable? this is what that made reo my favourite character in a second, probably. he's so human and he makes so many mistakes and he's so stupid sometimes, but I can see myself in him very clearly.
and now.
in what way is their relationship not balanced? their love and care not mutual? in what way one used or manipulated the other?
I think they're flawed, and they made mistakes, and they hurt each other, but I also think that we throw in the word "toxic" the moment a relationship isn't perfect.
they're friends and they're teens, they will make mistakes and they will hurt each other, and their friendship (and they were roommates) won't be perfect- this doesn't make it less genuine or beautiful.
don't get me started on what happens in the manga (really don't do it) (all of this was just nagi's spin off!!!)

basically you were a doctor in the same company with kim rok soo, choi jung soo and lee soo hyuk.
when kim rok soo first arrived in the company. lee soo hyuk told him about the one rule that every team has everytime they goes to their mission.
don't get hurt so they won't go to the clinic to meet you.
and for the first time, when he met you. you were able to crack rok soo's calm demeanor.
don't blame him. thanks to his ability, he can't forget the first time he met you when he and jung soo got injured in one of their mission. he was too dumb to think that you were innocent. the way you sit on your seat like a calm person and that calming smile on your face that calm his nerves that time. making him forget how serious his injury was.
but his first impression about you didn't last when jung soo, who was looking for the comfort room inside the clinic. only to open a door that leads them your 'lab area' where they saw countless monsters, hell, some are even s-class. who was jailed and practically (despite of not being able to talk at all) beg them to drag them out there.
hell, they even saw some skulls there and dried blood!
the two of them then heard your sweet voice from afar. your cheery voice that was a stark contrast of the hell that they've seen.
“oohhh, rok soo-ssi, jung soo-ssi, you've seen my collections, huh~?”
and jung soo literally screamed at the sight of you. your usual clean lab coat was stain with blood.
he remembered jung soo shakily asking you what's the liquid staining your lab coat. then it took you a minute to answer their simple question. your bright smile still plastered on your face.
"ketchup, i think?"
but there's no way that a ketchup will smell like a damn blood!
then your nurses ganged up on them. those damn nurses who for some reasons have the same smile as you. and even the same eyes with a glint of madness.
okay.what.the.hell?
the last thing rok soo could remember after that. was you, taking a damn huge saw with a crazed smile—
“alright~ it's time for your medical examination <3!"
it was followed by jung soo's screams asking lee soo hyuk (who is not present that time) for help. and you, laughing it off saying that you won't hurt them.
when he woke up, he found himself in your clinic's bed. with the traumatized choi jung soo on the bed next to them. and then, you, who just finished an operation smiling brightly at them. asking how's their feeling, if they feel alright, and many questions. followed by your chuckles saying—
“hmm, looks like that i will be able to use that drug to others now, hehe.”
and during those times they stayed at your clinic to heal their wounds. they started wondering if you are really a doctor or a serial killer.
alright, alright— what kind of doctor will go check on them with blood on their cheeks. or while holding a dismembered hand saying that it was only a display and not a real body but blood was dripping from it and it was still moving?
but, they have to admit. aside from your unhinged personality. there is something about you that makes them at ease.
oh, are you wondering what's your relationship with lee soo hyuk? well, before the apocalypse, the two of you are actually classmates.
and this guy was the one who witnessed your craziness about 'knowledge' and discovering more about human (when the truth is you actually want to see if the human internal organs are really similar to the pictures they put on the books).
and it was indeed scary. but at the same time, lee soo hyuk adores you. though, he knows that you, during the apocalypse— found love and emotions useless. because it will only be a weakness that will burden someone and might become the reason of their death.
but that doesn't mean that he will get rid of this emotions that he has towards you.
and the day that he dread the most had come.
on his way to visit choi jung soo and kim rok soo (who got injured on their last mission) to your hospital. he was petrified at the sight of the ability users panicking as they evacuated your patients— and when he asked what happened.
what he got was countless high grade monsters appeared on the hospital— (which surprised him since he knew that you keep your experiments on the clinic you had inside the company since you did that it was safer there) and the only one who's still inside was you, kim rok soo and choi jung soo.
and kim rok soo, the person who was with you that time. the person who witness your last moments. the person who now couldn't forget about you no matter how time passes by.
he remembered how you kicked choi jung soo out of the window earlier, claiming that a patient would be useless in fighting monsters. and now, you seemed to be pretty out of it. talking to yourself as you and rok soo ran to the fourth floor.
he remembered you saying—
“god of death? what are you? a person with a middle school syndrome?”
and looking outside, he saw countless ability users preparing soft cushions and urging them to jump so that they will be able to set the hospital on fire and get rid of the monsters—
and maybe because of that— you suddenly pushed him out of the window. saying something about slicing someone's stomach open and observing what's inside it if they weren't a real god.
when you saw that both kim rok soo and choi jung soo was safe. you turned your back from the crowds, smirking as you realized you were surrounded by monsters. man, this situation excites you so much.
and taking out the remote from your pockets that will defuse the home made bombs that you made and put around the hospital back when you are so bored. you started thinking on how does it feel like dying because of a bomb before you pressed the button.
you expected that you will be stuck in nothingness after that event. but when you opened your eyes, you were welcomed by the sight of a beautiful woman with a fiery red hair and reddish brown eyes, smiling softly at you.
“looks like you were awake, my little ( name ).”
while up in the heavenly realm. there is a certain someone who made sure to wipe up your memories. so that you will forget the deal about agreeing to examine him once the two of you meet one day.
yeah, he might be a god but you scares him more than anything else so hard pass <3!

(in which you enter the demon slayer realm)
Sanemi eyed you for a while, his hands gripping tight on his sword, as blood slowly trickled down to its tip, dripping on the mud, tainting it red.
Well, the lower rank 6 demon, he was supposed to slay, laid dead on the ground, a little far from you, growling on anger as his body disintegrated into ashes, blown by the slow breezes, dispersing into thin air.
Killed by you. Barehanded.
The moon glowed big and bright, over your heads. "Who are you?" Sanemi shinazugawa said in a horrifying tone, "Or shall I rephrase my question....what are you?".
Shit.
You mentally smack yourself for acting like that infront of him, well that's totally not your fault though, you didn't knew, sanemi was going to make his appearance, moreover it's a background plot, not mentioned once in the manga. You open your mouth but close it again, not sure what to answer.
"Definately not a human."
"I am." You can't help but defend yourself, feeling triggered at his question. Having a mere charecter question your existence is quite disrespectful.
"Is it? I haven't seen a 'human' girl ripping off a demon head barehanded." He comes a bit closer, placing the tip of his sword on your neck, pressing it lightly. "Quiet a sight huh!.......you know I hate lies and surprisingly your aura doesn't resemble humans. What shall I do with that pretty girl?"
Wait. Sanemi shinazugawa called you pretty.
"Pretty....? You think I'm pretty? Oh my god, sanemi shinazugawa called me pretty...." You keep on mumbling to yourself, not being able to contain the excitement. Even though you liked the ever sadistic giyu tomioka more, sanemi was still hot. I repeat fucking hot and feral.
You didn't exactly like ending up in the demon slayer realm but didn't particularly hate it. You have, somehow, the ability to enter manga realms. And, this was your second time, accidentally entering one. The first realm you ended up entering was jujutsu kaisen's, and that was pretty messed up, considering that demon slayer was a heck more peaceful. Atleast you believe so.
Meanwhile sanemi was dumbstruck, first of all, according to his point of view, a girl looking weird creature, who claims to be human but ripped down a lower moon without a nichirin sword, was just impossible. You have to be a demon. And you should fear a sword pressed firmly on your neck, however you were there being giggling flustered mess.
"Stop trying to trick me you demon! It's time for you to join your troops in hell.....and how do you even know my name?"
"Yeah yeah whatever, but you called me pretty and I just....ahhh I love you—"
"S-shut up!" And this time, it's sanemi who's getting flustered. "How the heck you know my name? Forget it, I will just finish off you right here."
"Yeah yeah, whatever, but let's first get those kids home. It's quite traumatic for them to be here."
"Kids?"
"What you didn't know?"
The kids peeked out from the broken house, with eyes clouded in fear, tears stained cheeks, shaking. Sanemi gave a look from the side of his eye as he tilts down his swords rushing to the kids, "i won't let you harm them," shielding them from your vision.
"wouldn't it be better if you take them home rather than wasting time?" You say lazily, "you know what I take back what I said— i don't love you."
"Who wants to be in love with you anyway, filthy blood thirsty demon!" Sanemi fumed, sprinting from his position, "wind breathing: first form- dust whirling cutter."
That's it. You would be dead by now.
Sanemi turned around with a shit eating smile; which dropped in a sec. Lol. You were standing there intact. Ofcourse nothing would make you bleed after all you were a real human, unlike them.
You went to the kids, sighing, bending to their level, "hey it's fine, I know the scene over here was quite terrifying and this uncle over here is terrifying too, but it's fine. I will take you two home. Hmm? Come out."
The kids slowly came out, hesitating a bit.
By the time you took the kids home, its dawn, sanemi followed you suspiciously, grabbing the hilt of his sword tight. 'How did she even survived that? I cut right through her neck... moreover she ain't hurting the kids?' he thought.
The sun is about to rise still you show no sign of panic. What exactly is she? He thought
A demon who could walk under the sun?
"Hey sanemi, I'm hungry, can you buy me something to eat, I promise I will pay you later."

Pretty thing♡
As a manga reader, tears started running down my legs when I saw haganezuka's face revealed 😍 here's some haganezuka smut for yall
Warnings: fem!reader, reader is mentioned to be haganezuka's girlfriend, chubby/muscular reader, mention of stretch marks, smut, caught masturbating, virginity loss, love making to rough fucking, cervix fucking(?)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5b4b3607a2604d1c366e23e8d39cb2d8/4fed45ea3b737935-92/s540x810/b2e47474530257a8bca1a38938be9a349bd744b3.jpg)
"Y/n. Serious question. How did you even manage to catch haganezuka's eye?" One of the men asked at your table. "I have to know as well. I've never seen the man take any interest other than a sword. That and working out, " the other man said.
Even though those things were true for haganezuka, you couldn't help but laugh at how others can say that out loud. However, it was different for you. What caught his attention was that you are a woman. Not because he hasn't been around women or anything, but you are a woman who loves to create swords almost on the same level as him which is what caught his attention.
Haganezuka would mention how you were a distraction to his work since he said, "You're so beautiful when you create swords. i might just make a mistake with mine!" He basically confessed. He found you very attractive physically, too, with your pretty face and your chubby figure, but will maintain muscles in your arms from the sword making.
"Come now, even you can bond with the man if you spend time in his work shop and have a talk with him," you chuckled "nah I've done that. I straight up got ignored. " The other man sighed, and you laughed "he dose mean well. He takes great pride in his work, and I really admire that, and he still takes care of himself, which is good as well! Spending time with him in the work shop and getting to have him snuggled up with me at night after a longs day of work is all I need from him" you smiled and the men around you looked in aw at your wholesome words.
After lunch break, you headed back to the workshop. Before greeting your beloved boyfriend, you see him, Angerly packing some stuff up without his shirt on. You sighed and put your hand on your hip. "Let me guess. That Kamado boy broke his sword again, huh?" You chuckled. "I'm going to kill him! Dead! How dare he break MY sword! I'm going to throw his sister in the daylight for this!" He said and rushed out, stomping in anger.
You cleared your throat, making haganezuka stop, and then came back to you. He gave you a hug and then left. "I'll see you soon! Be safe!" You waved.
It's been hours now since he left. You've been in the shop finishing up the sword for three swordsmen and sighed in satisfaction. "Yes. Final sword for the day. For once, I'm happy to be finished, and I can rest now, " you said and sat down on your chair. You looked up at the ceiling. "He looked so handsome without his shirt on... really handsome, " you said, bitting your bottom lip with your legs starting to rub against each other.
You couldn't stop your dirty thoughts, and you didn't think you could make it home given your current state to take care of yourself. You went to wash your hands off and went back to your chair, pulling your pants down to rub at your clit over your panties. "haa... I wish he knew the things he did to me when he's shirtless like that.." Your head falls back, letting out soft moans. You felt yourself getting wet, feeling the wet spot already on your panties.
"Unbelievable!" Haganezuka yelled and kicked the door open. "y/n this child had the nerve to apologize after breaking... my..." haganezuka started to lose his train of words by seeing your back turned to him, sitting on the chair and your pants down to your ankles, making out what he just walked in on.
You gasped, holding your legs to your chest and resting your head on your knees to hide your shame. "I-... okay, listen - ahh, I can't explain myself! Just!!!" You choke onnyour words, not being able to explain yourself. "ok, go back outside, come back in. I'll be dressed, and you can pretend you didn't see anything, " you said.
Haganezuka just stood there for a few seconds before shutting the door. "Go back outside? Why? How come you're doing this without me?" He asked, almost mad and took his mask off. You turn your head looking at haganezuka, confused at his question, "I'm sorry... what do you mean?" You asked
"I'm your boyfriend. I should help you with this, right!? I have knowledge on what to do, " he said, coming closer to you, but you hide your face him, making him stop. "y-you don't "have" to. it's just... well... " You stopped once you felt two large hands caress your shoulders. "I didn't say that because I "should" help you. I said that because I want to damnit. How long have you done with when I'm not here?" He asked curiously but almost upset
"Just.. when I feel like it. Or when I have time to myself. Please don't be mad, I've never asked you because we are so busy with making swords and I know how much you dislike when people interpret your time making swords" you look back at him with puppy eyes. Haganezuka leans down and kisses your forehead. "I do hate it, but if it's my own girlfriend? I allow it... for 3 minutes, " he said, making you both laugh. "I'm serious though," he said in a serious tone. "I know you are" you smiled.
"Okay, cover up now. Let's go. " Haganezuka took his kimono off and put it on your legs, picking you up from the chair. You held onto him quickly. "You're an idiot for not coming to me sooner about this. However... I will take care of this since it's my fault for not noticing the pleasure you needed. It's your first time, so don't think we are doing something like this in my precious work shop, " he said, carrying you and walking out.
"we are having sex at our house!" He loudly announced. "Shut up!" You covered his mouth, almost fighting him. "What is wrong with you!? Don't say that out loud!!!!"
Haganezuka had you on the bed underneath him, naked and kissing you more passionately than ever. Your hands grab on his broad back, feeling his muscles and his warm skin and feeling his tounge swirl sound yours in your mouth.
His hands grab your hips, fitting himself between your thighs to close the gap between the two of you. Haganezuka pulled back "is this okay?" He asked and you nodded, using your hands to cover your exposed boobs. He chuckles at your shynes. "Your body is beautiful. I love it, your stretch marks are very pretty too" he praises as his fingers touch your stretch marks, tracing them out and his fingers lightly touching your lower stomach making you tremble a little from the ticklish feeling "can I touch you more?"
He asked so sweetly, much sweeter than ever you just couldn't say no to him. You nodded, closing your eyes, feeling his lips press on your neck, giving your neck soft, gentle kisses. His fingers trail down to your bare pussy, rubbing your clit in a circular motion. "You're wet. Are you still wet because you couldn't finish when i walked in on you?" Haganezuka said, giving your neck love bites.
You could feel his smirk on your neck at the question he asked. You didn't answer and only turned your head away in embarrassment. "Don't say that," you whispered with soft whimpers getting hotter from his touch. "Fine. Don't answer, " he said, kissing down your neck to your collar bone, giving it love bites, and then getting to your nipple.
Haganezuka moved your hands out of the way to see your boobs. His face was flushed. He didn't know how he eles to appreciate your beautiful body with words and just took action and started to take your nipple in his mouth. "Haganezuka~" you moaned, feeling his warm wet tongue and lips wrap around your harden nipples
He kept eye contact with you. Whenever you wanted to look away, he used his teeth to bite on your nipple making you mewl. haganezuka's fingers moved down frkm your clit to your hole and put one finger in, moving it slowly. "H-haganezuka, please~" you begged, wanting more
"Have you forgotten patience?" he kisses your stomach. "I need to take my time with you. I can't do this right if I'm not focused, right?" he said, and you both chuckle since it's something he says when making swords perfectly, but he's trying to make you as comfortable with him in the moment as much as he can
Haganezuka kisses your inner thigh, holding onto your thighs. "Can you be patient for me?" He asked, looking at you with such lustful eyes. "Yes," you bit your lip with a shy smile. Haganezuka smirked "that's my girl" he stuck his tounge out, giving your pussy a long lick, tasting you and keeping his eyes focused on you.
Your back arches, and you gasp from the feeling. "Oh my gosh~" you whispered to yourself, grabbing onto the bed sheets as you kept feeling his long, wet licks on your pussy. You couldn't hold back your moans, your whimpers and your hips from bucking in his face when he starts to fuck on his clit. You felt haganezuka enter another finger inside, and you grab onto his hair, clenching on his fingers.
Haganezuka bottomed out, loving how your hips push your pussy onto his tounge and moaned from the feeling of you clenching on his fingers. He fucks his fingers into faster, now adding a third finger trying to find your g spot. Your body jolts when you feel his fingers hit your spot, grabbing onto his hair. "Right there! Right there, right there!" You whine, covering his fingers with your white fluids.
Haganezuka waited until he calmed down from your high and then pulled his fingers out. He watched as your pussy throbbed and gulped "y/n. I need you now, can I put it inside you now? he asked, almost desperate with heavy breathes with his hand over his pants and then started to take them off, exposing his cock with pre cum leaking from it.
Your eyes widen from the size. He was a good size in length but the thickness of his cock was much bigger then you expected even with his huge, musclar build. "Haganezuka.." you say opening your legs more and using your fingers to spread open your pussy "I need you so badly. Put it inside slowly, okay?" Looked at him.
"Y/n~" Haganezuka moaned your name sliding his thick cock between your wet folds and then pushes it inside you, slowly forcing it in "y-y/n~ haa fuck you're so tight". You let out a loud gasp, holding onto his biceps tightly "just a little more~" he moaned grabbing your legs to spread you out more to be fully inside you. "Are you okay?" Haganezuka asked
You nod quickly, bitting your lip whimpering softly being a full of his cock you his tip already poking at your spot. "Y-you can move now" you said. Haganezuka starts to thrust his hips slowly, breathing heavy and shuts his eyes with his brows frowned together to hold himself back. "You're so tight, so tight~ and we wet. You won't let me go with how hard your pussy is clinging onto me" he said, rubbing his thumb on your clit.
"F-fuuck~ ha-haganezuka. Go harder, go faster, " you whispers, wrapping your arms around his neck and wrapping your legs around his waist. "You sure? You want me to fuck you harder like this?" Haganezuka let's out broken moans as his hips snap, fucking you faster, bullying your cervix with his tip
You moaned, loudly almost screaming from how rough he got and pushing your leg back to your chest "you feels good. s-so good~ really good. Your moans sound so pretty" he said with broken moans "I'm gonna cum. Fuck I can feel how much wetter your getting, cum for me y/n" Haganezuka holds your boobs together and sucks on your nipples while snapping his hips harder and harder.
"Haganezuka~!" You whined as you tremble from your sensitive nipples being sucked and his tip repeatedly hitting your spot. You gripped onto the sheets, looking at him with teary eyes. "haganezuka!! I'm cumming I'm cumming!" Your head went back, moaning loudly creaming on his cock.
"Y/n" he moaned, his thrust getting more sloppy until he gasped, cumming a little inside you and pulling his cock out of you cumming the rest on your pussy "you were squeezing me so tightly I couldn't pull out in time. Sorry, " he said, looking at you concerned.
You shook your head, breathing heavy from your intense orgasm and weakly reached out to cup his handsome face. "Don't worry about it. I was hoping you'd cum inside me though" you grinned.
Haganezuka narrows his eyes and leans closer to your face. "we have all night, I'll fill you up as much as you'd like. My pretty girl"

The Misfit Class
Here is the finished product!! Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun has grown to be one of my favorite animes, and I love watching the show as well as reading the manga! I loved all of the characters and how they all have their own separate defining trait. Even though Clara, Iruma, and Asmodeus are the tritoganists, the secondary characters still feel so defined and in-depth.
I recommend Welcome to Demoon School, Iruma-Kun!
As for the drawing, I've been wanting to draw the misfit class ever since I finished the anime and didn't actually start drawing them until this week. This was an enjoyable project that I'm pretty sure helped me out of my art block! It also helped me out of my comfort zone when I was drawing Allocer and Camui. For my next fanarts, I'm thinking about drawing the Misfit Class during the Harvest festival as I really enjoy their designs!

Japanese QL Corner
One show ends this week, but there are several more on the way, including a surprising adaptation. Of the six shows airing now, five are streaming weekly on Gaga and the other is available via fansub.
Takara's Treasure
I. LOVE. THEM. Their little bird watching date was precious and I loved every moment of it, including Taishin's adorable outfit and over preparedness, Takara's secret smiles, and the patient search for the wallet. I was so relieved that Taishin named his fears about them not being suited upfront instead of letting it grow into a huge anxiety in his own head, and I was also happy Takara was eager to speak with him about his impending relocation. That said, NOOOOOOOO I don't want a forced separation and time skip, show. Please I am begging.
Cosmetic Playlover
This was my favorite week for this show by far, because they actually let us see the relationship at its center! I enjoyed finally spending some time with these two as a couple, though I still find the timing and sequencing of these plots confusing as hell. Last week Sahashi gave Mamiya keys to his place and it was implied they'd been dating for quite awhile and were already serious, but this week we learn Mamiya has never spent the night and they are only just having sex for the first time. It was a real record scratch for me; I can't get my bearings in this relationship trajectory with all the gaps in the story. But hey, at least they finally let them make out a little! For a show that sold itself as toxic sexy, there has been very little toxicity or sex, tbh.
I Hear the Sunspot
*rubs temples* This show is really testing my patience. I got excited last week when Kohei and Taichi finally had a real conversation and it seemed like we were moving forward, but this week we're back to treading water. This story did not need 12 episodes; this pacing, while faithful to the manga as I understand it, does not work well for weekly live action. It's been weeks since we've learned anything new about these characters or advanced the central relationship, and the show continues to stumble with its confused depiction of Maya. I just want this show to pull together and finish strong, because I think a lot of this will be much more tolerable on a binge watch. For now I will just gaze at Kohei's beautiful smiling face and hope for a full recovery.
Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko
I said last week that the show had gotten so muddled I didn't think they'd be able to end well, and even with those very low expectations this finale still managed to get underneath them. The last several episodes made a mess of the characters, the conflict, and the themes of the show, and to add insult to injury, they capped it all off with angle kisses, a time skip, and a bizarre sex negative ending that had our "boob monster" adult lesbian refusing to have sex with her girlfriend for over a year so she could "cherish" her before randomly kissing her at the office as if that was the important resolution we'd been waiting for. A truly horrid ending that ruined everything this show did so well in its early episodes. I don't understand!! Big sigh and fingers crossed for a decent sexy gl sometime in the near future.
Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding
I've just been beaming and staring into space for the last several minutes after finishing this episode. No matter what else happens in the shows, I love knowing I am always going to end my week in jql on a good note while this gem is airing. This week marked a transition point for Ishida and Mitsuya, as Ishida had a great conversation with Noguchi, found a new passion and put in for a job transfer, and had his final meeting and meal with Mitsuya as writer and editor. Which they immediately followed with a date and mutual acknowledgment of the feelings between them! And what a fantastic date it was, with every moment so invigorating and wonderfully adult. Mitsuya's quiet confidence and amusement at Ishida's nerves, Ishida's clarity on how he wants Mitsuya to see him, the mutual compliments and gestures and smiles and eye contact, ahhhhhhhhh. I also loved that Ishida got to be the one to show Mitsuya something new at the end, to get him to run with joy for the first time in ages and introduce him to a new food. I am so excited to see their dating era begin in earnest. You can find the episode with subtitles courtesy of @isaksbestpillow here.
Tagging @bengiyo to add this week's anime update.

Why does everyone treat Hawks having always been an assassin as canon? I know he was brought in as a replacement for Nagant but as far as I’m aware there’s no actual proof he killed anyone before twice
You're right! We've never been explicitly told he has a kill-count of anything but 1 (rip Jin). However (honestly you knew this would make me actually write, didn't you?)....
1. The HSPC has changed (somewhat)
It's spelled out to us that Madame Prez wasn't like her predecessor. Her methods weren't as brutal, she was way into a war of information. In some ways, crueler. Kaina wasn't executed - instead she had her hair shorn and was defamed, humiliated.
Nagant assumes Keigo has been used like her. Horikoshi says Madame Prez groomed Keigo from a much earlier age than the middle school-aged Kaina so he had way less ability to leave or question (additionally, he was so sheltered from society and marginalized that he simply would have been incapable until he was an adult).
This is what the story says outright. So, yes, you're right - everything else is speculation. But then the question is why people believe this is canon outside of the typical abysmal literacy found in this fandom?
2. But Hawks being Hawks doesn't Make It Easier
Truth be told, I'm on your side. I used to very much doubt he had much of a body/kill count. I still think it might be single digits if we consider actually murdering someone with his own hands/quirk, though I suspect he might be responsible for deaths in other ways. I would have completely accepted Jin being his first (and only at this point) murder.
So why did I change my mind about this? Simply; Keigo's a fucking freak. I say this with love.
Every so often Keigo says or does something in this manga that both confirms he's kind of insane and in a very different moral space than everyone else, and just off-handedly mentioning he went and, after being subjected to third degree burns and essentially losing limbs, immediately went to eliminate every last sample even after the battle (where he was carried off by Tokoyami mind you) as in....destroying Jin's body or ensuring no one can use it. He's offended when it's clear Dabi got the better of him with this.
Mind you, he's the world champion at repressing his feelings, duh, but the fascinating way he speaks about this (a minute after screaming they NEED TO KILL JIN AGAIN) speaks volumes. Keigo's completely undaunted about handling death and its aftermath. If he's never killed before, he's been certainly trained to in a way that he handles it professionally.
There's one more thing that makes me think Keigo did kill before Jin. We can argue over how much Keigo hesitated killing Jin, but I think it's a point in that he did in how much he ABSOLUTELY does not with All For One.
Like he does not hesitate. Immediately tries to put a feather-knife through his brain. Logically, I mean, I think anyone would try to one-shot AFO because the more time the man that has (until he rewound himself) the more time he has to fuck you up, but still. He tries to stab through his man's head as soon as he gets out of the portal.
Here's Keigo just admitting it, albeit saying he expected it wouldn't work, but really, he's more apologizing he can't immediately kill this man.
No hesitance.
My final piece of evidence is that Keigo is currently walking around Japan in a suit with a katana begging mfers to "try it bitch". Like being quirkless, not a hero, none of that is stopping him if he needs to defend himself. And it's not like he can pin someone away with his feathers. Nor does he have dozens of daggers at his disposal anymore, just one blade. He's the type to try and finish things quickly as the manga has shown time and time again. I really hope no one actually tries to assassinate him because there's an extreme likelihood he'll just decapitate them in the SPC boardroom.
3. Red, Red Hands
To recap, we know Keigo has been trained to kill, in a multitude of ways (and not only with his quirk), and has always seen killing as option/tool he can use. The HSPC might not be as eager to kill as Kaina's era was, but they raised Keigo with the intent to use him to be able to kill people and cover it up. While there's no proof of other murders, there's proof he's been given the training, tools, and expectation to kill. And his attitude towards killing isn't making it seem like he's not done it before. Of course, he's not agonizing over it like Kaina, which makes me think he was used sparingly to kill.
But the other thing to ask is - will Keigo continue to kill (and not like in personal defense) or lead to the deaths of others? He's already set on reforming the Public Safety Commission by allowing for the reform of Villains who cooperate, renaming the Commission to distance itself from solely heroism... We're still a few chapters away of seeing what this new president has in store for society and how he'll distinguish his methods from the people who created him, but we also have two hundred and fifty chapters of him expressing dislike of how he's used, so perhaps it's fair to say he's not continuing the cycle?

small art dump of ONE fanart bc i love mob psycho 100 and one punch man
(not bc i just started rewatching mob psycho 100 [and not bc i claim to say mp100 is my favorite anime/manga ever yet still has yet to watch the 3rd season in full despite it being 2 years] there is no serizawa since i haven't gotten to him yet in the anime.)
who could ever guess who my favorite character is. ill pay my life savings and both my kidneys to see reigen dress as a woman again.
i wasn't planning on putting this here, but i didn't know where else to put this sketch page so it's going on here. i dont draw saitama or genos very much but i promise i love them too lol (but mob psycho 100 i love more. the trio even invaded my opm sketch page).
anyways im planning on drawing more mp100 stuff later. i have extreme brainrot over it after finishing the first season a few days ago. see you in my next period posting.
11/12/2024 edit: this was in my drafts months ago, so the content is a little old. i still haven't watched season 3 bc i've been so busy. lol
my old laptop fried itself to death, so i lost a big chunk of my mp100 and one punch man art. hope you enjoy what i have though. i added a few recent arts as well.

Twilight and his guilt/mistakes - Ch.86-107
[Manga spoiler alert]
Once upon a time, Loid "for the mission" Forger thinks in full sentences.
However, regarding his family, Twilight slowly moves from confirmed statements he states in his head to questions. We see him looking at Anya and Bond in the park miserably after the doggy crisis arc, thinking how he would have to leave his family. (Ch.23) After the tennis arc the confirmed statement has turned into hesitation, "Any lie can be justified, if it's in the name of peace... Huh?" (Ch.35) Towards the end of the cruise arc, we see him wondering to himself:
Chapter 75 is unsatisfying because we expect Twilight to give us his thoughts, like he's always done before.
But in ch.75, we get nothing:
Ch.83 gave us something similar to the previous pattern. Twilight asked himself this important question, "Why did you hesitate?" (ch.83). We got an indirect answer.
In ch.86, he tried to give us Yor his thoughts (I've talked about them here), but he didn't finish them (because of Yuri):
Ch.86 is the beginning of a new pattern of Twilight's thoughts: 1. he always finds his own imperfections/mistakes when he tries to be the spy; and 2. he no longer offers us his thoughts about the Forgers in complete sentences (although to be fair we know he loves them and that's not up for debate).
Every time he has to act as Twilight [the spy] an expanding crack in Twilight's "disguise" is revealed. In ch.92 and 107, [redacted] wants to do something for the mission and ends up thinking outside of the mission:
In ch.107, he's reminded once again how his missions, including his side missions, could hurt his family. In the bus arc, he's not there because he's on a side mission and had to run back "for nothing". In the Wheeler's arc, he almost killed Yor's brother because of his side mission (that was until he heard Yuri calling Yor's name). And here in ch.107:
And like in ch.86, he again didn't give us a full sentence: "Even so, I..." ("And therefore...")
Ch.92 and 107 have one thing in common - he's so eager to do his spy stuffs in the beginning, so much so we can see the sound of him calculating in ch.107.
But his mind grew quiet when he felt the guilt. Things still went his way, but was he as happy as he thought he would be?
He had a realisation during the Wheeler arc. What he would tell us (for now) is that he realises that he has failed as a spy. He (or should we say Endo) didn't show us explicitly what he thought about how he should deal with his family.
Endo dropped us hints though - ch.94 and 103. I think I will make an analysis on ch.103 so I'll only talk about ch.94 here. Is Twilight still "acting"? Yes, but he's not doing it for the mission. If in the cruise arc he often had to remind himself that it's a vacation (so is it a mission or a vacation), in ch.94 he knows it's not for the mission. He didn't even think about the mission in this chapter right after he told himself to forget about Anya's tonitrus bolts.
Ch.94 is the first vacation he actively takes. He's smiling the whole time. To think that during the cruise arc, this man had difficulties taking a vacation.
Ch.94 shows us that he's happy with his family as long as he doesn't think about the mission. The more he tries to act like Twilight, the more he notices about his own mistakes.
But that's fine. Endo gave us a hint which is unfortunately not shown in the English version. In ch.92, Ji-jiji told Anya something. In English, it's translated to be "Whenever you find a pitfall, it makes the road easier to walk the next time."
But there's a note next to the word "pitfall" that reads まちがい (間違い), meaning "mistake(s)". Who's been finding tonnes of his own faults lately? This guy.
But I believe in Ji-jiji. And I think Twilight will find the way.

Keen observation: Genya might not have heard Sanemi in the infinity castle. (Iykyk)
DISCLAIMER: HEAVY SPOILERS FOR THE DEMON SLAYER MANGA IF YOU AARE AN ANIME ONLY!
(Shoutout to my friends who let me rant to them after I read this chapter, I think I caused some emotional distress)
Okay so if you've continued to read this, I'll assume that you've read the demon slayer manga, and have been made more than aware of the untimely death of one Genya Shinazugawa. And that you have also read the scene in which Sanemi and him have their hurried heart to heart, in which Genya finally gets to apologise to his brother, while Sanemi assures him that he was never in the place where he needed to apologise.
And on my second reading (Once I had calmed down and semi-processed the manga's ending) is where I kinda noticed that Genya's reaction to this was not what I would have expected from him. In chapter 133 of the manga, and episode four of season five of the anime, Genya tries and fails to apologise to Sanemi, and instead gets himself into even more trouble with the latter, mentioning his demon-eating abilities. Genya is defeated by the fact that Sanemi still doesn't want to hear him out, as he is seemingly still hurt by what Genya said to him when they were younger.
But little did he know, Sanemi was just worried for his safety, and as revealed by Tanjiro, has loved him all this time. Genya is clearly shocked by this, and apparently just didn't have a single clue that his brother cared about him a all, let alone loved him.
Part of me thinks that Genya didn't fully believe Tanjiro when he first heard this, but that when he saw Sanemi fighting for him, that he came to the realisation his brother did still care for him.
All of this combined makes Genya's reaction to what Sanemi was saying a little underwhelming...? AND I KNOW THAT HE WAS LITERARELLY DYING, BUT BUT BUT
We have seen demons show emotion as they die, or be a little more... interactive? And I think I'll focus on Gyutaro and Daki to make my point. They are clearly very aware of what is being said to them, as Gyutaro gasps when Daki said
"Someone as ugly as you couldn't possibly be my brother!!"
And she is offended when he insults her for being dependant on him - but then as Daki proceeds do disintegrate more, she becomes more manic and cries out to no one in particular, as though her senses are going out of whack - and that brings me back to Genya.
By the time that Sanemi awakens to see Genya, notice that Genya is staring off into space, and his ears are disintegrated. He mutters his apology to his brother, but doesn't really look at him, or seem to respond to anything that he says either - in fact he talks over him a few times. And I think that that is down the the fact that Genya just couldn't hear him.
As you can see in the photo, Genya doesn't even acknowledge a single thing that 'Nemi says to him. he doesn't even have the heart to look him in the eye as he finally cranks out the apology he has owed his brother for so so long. And I think this is because he was scared that Sanemi might not let him finish - that he might lash out at him - or worse - tell him he loves him as he has to leave him behind.
Genya loves his brother so so much, but in his last moments he doesn't even look to him as he speaks, doesn't respond to his brother's cries for him, and doesn't even let him know that it is alright for him do die in advance of him, something that I think our usual Genya would have done - given his brother at the bare minimum some half assed comfort due to fatigue - but no. We got nothing.
And yes, this does mean that Genya may have died thinking that Sanemi was still frustrated with him in some way, or that he was always going to have been some kind of a burden to him, and that does hurt me quite a bit.
(Also do we think that Sanemi realised that Genya had fully become a demon by the time he died? When he saw him turning to ash he screamed
"AHHGH HE'S TURNING TO ASH LIKE HE'S A DEMON!!"
But he doesn't really focus on it, I mean clearly there were more pressing matters - but if Genya were to have lived on as a demon do you think that he would have been killed inevitably by Muzan at the end of the battle? Or do you think Sanemi is pulling a Tanjiro and searching for a cure to get his little brother human)

We are told at the very start of the manga that "if you want to know a person, you need to find out what makes them angry"
So I want to talk about Gon, and what makes him angry.
Gon is hard to anger, especially for a kid: He wasn't angry at his dad for abandoning him and never visiting, he wasn't angry at Mito for lying that his parents died, he wasn't angry when Leorio made everyone lose 50 hours at the trick tower despite revealing later in Hanzo's fight that his hope to meet his 'amazing hunter dad' would vanish if couldn't finish the exam on his first try like Ging did (there is no "better luck in the next exam" for Gon), he never gets jealous when Killua shows more strength or knowledge than him even though they are the same age and he used to be very powerful on his little island, and so on.
But it's not hard for Gon to get angry for others: Be it angry for their safety or about people disrespecting their wishes. Especially if they are his friends.
His anger is stronger when his friend's lives are at risk, their safety triumphs over his wish to respect what they want.
But he doesn't care about his own life.
He is never angry when people hurt him. As Hanzo had put it, even injuries as severe as broken bones don't matter to Gon.
But Gon was visibly frustrated in Hanzo's fight.
He wants to win. And he wants to be the one to win not for Hanzo to forfeit. He wants to earn his license, he need proof that he is strong, capable, and worthy of being in the last phase, aware he was only here because Hisoka let him pass.
The person Gon feels the most anger towards at the end of the exam is himself for being a hunter but not feeling like he is worth of the title.
Gon is always the most angry at himself.
When Kite kills a foxbear, punching Gon for trespassing in their territory, Gon isn't angry at him or the fox bear that attacked him, he puts the full blame on himself and tries to make up for it by raising Kon.
When Killua goes 'back home' he gets angry at Illumi for making Killua do things he doesn't want, but he also blames himself for not being there for Killua when his fight with Illumi happened.
Similarly, his instinct when he learned, without a doubt, that Kite is beyond saving, was to blame himself.
He isn't thinking about Pitou, isn't even seeing them, blinded by Kite and his own guilt.
This quest for 'revenge' was never about Pitou, it was always about healing Kite. And since Pitou can't heal the dead, Gon blames himself, he is angry at himself.
Pitou is the one that killed him. Killua was the one that was terrified by Pitou's aura and knocked Gon unconscious to run. Kite was the one that told them to run. Gon is far from the "reason kite died" but he loves and respect Kite and Killua, so he obviously doesn't see anything wrong, he never once blames Killua for what happened.
In fact... He had thanked him
And Gon is genuinely grateful here.
It breaks my heart how much he loves and trusts his friends, eager to share all his good times and victories with them. Wanting them by his side always, no matter how personal his journey is.
But when something bad happens he wants to 'make it better' alone. Is never "we will fix this" is always "I will", because he doesn't want to trouble them, be it by his own emotions, or outside dangers.
Gon never blames his friends, so he is the one responsible when bad things happen, the only one that needs to fix any problem. And if death is a risk, he will immediately assign the lethal job to himself, and himself only.
Gon isolates himself when things get hard but he still doesn't want to be alone. He craves company and support more than ever when he is hurt.
But he doesn't like to feel weak or helpless, so asking for help or opening up is extremely hard. He mostly just gets angry at himself for feeling how he feels and refuse to make it someone else's problem.
He didn't cry after stealing Hisoka's badge but he was feeling helpless and unworthy so he sucked it up and went to do better, it was only after Kurapika asked directly if he was okay that he lowered his walls and found himself crying.
He is just a kid, he can't process his self hate, frustration, or guilt well, and his way to feel better is to help others, be useful and powerful. But sometimes that's not enough, or he simply can't help.
So he constantly finds himself in situations where he gets injured, physical pain is something that he is more used to, that it's easier to process: He let a foxbear cub claws his shoulders after his actions make Kite kill the cub's mother, he let 'puppet kite' hit him even when he learned its robotic attack pattern, he feels weak and frustrated because 'The Bomber' wasn't taking him seriously and he hates feeling weak, so he delayed Killua's plan and got his hands destroyed to prove to himself that he can do it.
But helping others is still the clear priority over hurting himself: The best example to show this is when he visits the Zoldycks. He never took his anger about the Zoldyck family's isolation on Canary when he visited Killua, letting her knock him down again and again in silence for a while before expressing his frustrations with how unfair it is that he need to go through trials to visit a friend.
And when Killua's mom visited, he prioritized canary over his goal.
Gon is just... kind. Is far easier for him to care about strangers than it is for him to be angry.
Gon is smart, but he is not the best at figuring out people when they don't tell him how they feel, especially when Gon is annoyed or unsatisfied.
So I am not surprised he assumed cool-headed killua, who hides all his pain and is so reliable and mature, "always cleaning up Gon's mess", wasn't in pain in the chimera ant arc. It’s like having someone say “be calm” when you’re angry, stating cold facts that only make you feel more incompetent in your emotional state.
It hurt because it feels like Killua, whose opinion Gon values so much, doesn't care about Kite, his super important mentor figure. And since Pitou’s behavior makes it so he can’t use them as an outlet for his emotions, this hint of anger and betrayal at Killua makes him lash out without thinking about his friend.
But even in his blinding guilt and hatred, Killua is important enough to still be able to calm him down, and reminds him of his goal.
Gon doesn't understand Killua is hurt (since killua doesn't tell him) but at least... He is not alone.
"I can't wait" --> He genuinely feels like Killua is as calm as he pretends to be, only he is the 'helpless and in pain' one in Gon's mind and so Killua could easily wait, but he personally can't. He is alone in his pain.
"how long must we wait?" --> Killua is here. Gon never feels truly alone with Killua by his side, he at least has the comfort of an anchor in these trying times.
Killua, who feels unwanted, hurt, and useless, also misunderstands Gon and leaves when Gon needed company the most. Is none of their faults, but it does make Gon's already incredibly bad state even worst.
There is no one but himself to calm him down when he hit his breaking point, and Gon isn't kind to himself.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8d944446c1cff24cf7f6197767345a19/6799887674735ad4-3b/s540x810/d0bdaae6e382bf46e12687d23be56ec968d7fdbb.jpg)
His 'fight' with Pitou wasn't revenge. It was a failed attempt to "get kite back" to "fix him" which failed, and he couldn't deal with the resulting grief, so he turned it all into a suicide attempt.
To me, Gon gets angry when he feels inadequate or that a loved one deserves better, he has self-centered tunnel vision when he gets angry, so he doesn't realize his anger-fueled actions might trouble others, but when he does he will make an effort to set aside his own goals for others.
He is a good kid, a genuinely good kid with no self-love that is surrounded by adults that usually view him as a monster or a "admirable powerhouse" first and a child second, and it takes an enormous amount of strain to make him break.
He is a very strong kid, I wanna hug him.
#hxh#gon freecs#hunter x hunter#I still have so much more to talk about Gon... he make me so full of hope and depressed at the same time#but everyone is so smart in the hxh fandom i feel like i'm not really saying anything new#even if i do have too many feelings about this boy (my son!) to stay quiet#i'll try to not delete this like a scaredy cat tho#character analysis#gon freecss

Imagine Kafka Taking Care Of You At A Kaiju Cleanup Sight
Kafka Hibino X FemReader
Rating: T
Warnings: Kaiju gore, blood
Word Count: 1.3k
(A/N:) I have been so dang excited about the Kaiju No. 8 anime! I have read the manga since it came out and when they finally announced it getting an anime adaption, I freaked out. So yesterday was so awesome, I watched it three times! XD So I apologize for the fangirl I'm about to become and hopefully all the other Kaiju No. 8 fangirls can appreciate what I'm about to do! Until next time happy reading! ~Countess
You just knew your bosses hated you. It wasn't unusual for companies like Izumo Tech requesting specialists to go out in the field and oversee the kaiju cleanup crews. Only to make certain that they were receiving the best parts of the kaiju to create weapons, armor, and various forms of gear for the brave men and women who take the battles to the front line. But for some unfortunate reason you were the one being constantly sent out to supervise. It had to be done, even though the majority of the cleaning crews did their jobs right, but you'd be out of a job if you didn't go. This time you were to watch and take note of the Monster Sweep Inc. crew. The best of the business and always making sure they sent nothing but the parts Izumo requests. This wasn't the first time you had overseen this crew and you enjoyed being around them. What you didn't enjoy was dodging spurts of blood, or tripping over entrails, or squishing eyeball pieces under your shoes. The Defense Force always left a mess and it was the brave and iron stomached men and women of the cleaners.
Rubbing at your temples, fighting the oncoming headache, while your driver navigated the destroyed streets of the city. Your bag across your knees and the seatbelt strapped tight. You said a small prayer for the poor white shirt you unwittingly wore today. The car squealed to a stop as you couldn't go any further in the vehicle. Giving you a sorrowful smile, your driver let you out before backing out as fast as he could, leaving you alone in front of a giant bloody kaiju mess. Heaving a large sigh, the tainted coppery tang of kaiju blood filling your nostrils, you got to work.
"Hey Kafka," Masahide called to the dark haired male.
Kafka lifted his face shield wiping sweat from his forehead before heading to Toku's direction. Dread settled in the pit of his stomach, sensing he was being dragged into something else. He just hoped it wasn't entrail duty like the other times. But when Kafka saw you standing at Toku's side everything became clear, but it still didn't mean he was dodging entrail duty just yet.
"(Y/N) just got here. She's being assigned to your side since you're closer to the parts Izumo Tech are looking for."
You gave him a small wave, holding your bag tightly and standing as straight as could be. Making yourself as small as possible seemed like the safer option of keeping clean. You and Kafka knew each other pretty well by now as you had been on several scenes with him and the crew. You had become his charge every time you were on scene and it wasn't unusual for you both to go out for drinks and dinner afterwards. Majority of the time the other guys would join but sometimes you both were alone. So in Kafka's care you always felt safe as he tried his best not to splatter you with any kaiju fluids. Majority of cleaners didn't like you around, thinking that you were only here because the company thought they were doing their jobs wrong when it was the complete opposite. So it wasn't unusual for you to get doused in gore in an act of retaliation.
"Welcome back," Kafka said giving you a warm smile.
"Looks like you guys have your work cut out for you this time," you replied.
He sighed, shoulders sagging in defeat, "They keep upping our finish dates every time a kaiju is dispatched. They're really working us to the bone."
"Well if anyone can do it and handle it it's you guys," you offered him what little encouragement you could.
"Thanks." Kafka walked past you leaving you a little confused as he went to the company van. He tugged a large protective jacket from a bag on the floorboard before setting it on your shoulders. You gratefully slipped your arms inside and zipped it up to your chin. It swallowed you but you wouldn't complain.
"Thank you so much!"
Kafka blushed, "Didn't want your pretty shirt to get messed up."
"I didn't know I was coming out into the field until I came to work," you grumbled. "I would have dressed accordingly. Please continue like I'm not even here."
"I couldn't do that even if I tried," Kafka laughed. "Follow me. Some idle chat would do me some good."
Time passed by quickly as you and Kafka fell into easy chatter and before you both knew it lunch break was called. Majority of the time the smells of the dead kaiju killed your appetite but some form of luck came your way as the wind was right. Blowing the majority of the stench in the opposite direction. But still you couldn't do anything more than nibble on a few veggies you had packed in your bento. Kafka noticed you barely eating, so he dug around in his cooler. Tossing you a can, you caught it, barely.
"Ginger ale," he said at your confused glance. "It'll help settle your stomach. I carry them around just in case I'm on entrail duty. I also have some nausea pills somewhere too." He started to pat around in his pockets.
"No that's okay," you hurriedly grabbed his wrist. "This is more than enough thank you."
Sipping at the cold beverage and testing out a few bites of your lunch. You were able to finish most of it, but didn't push your luck as you had a couple more hours of staying on sight. The bark of the tree you leaned against, bit into your back. But you enjoyed the moment of just being able to take it easy. It was a rare thing to get to enjoy the slow pace of life. Between kaiju attacks, rushing around for work, and the fast pace of just life in general; you didn't find many times like this. Kafka, now finished with his lunch, leaned backwards cushioning his head with his hands. He breathed deep relaxing as the sun danced across his skin.
"Want to grab something later together," Kafka asked. His shoulders shaking as his nerves almost made him redact his question. You carefully slid your hand over, tugging at his sleeve, Kafka removed the hand you wanted from behind his head. You clasped his tightly in your grip, threading your fingers together causing him to stiffen. He knew he was sweaty and it only made his hand sweat worse and he didn't know how you felt about that. But you didn't let go.
"I would like that a lot," you replied. This time resting your head on his shoulder. "Thanks for taking care of me Kafka when I come here."
He gulped, "I enjoy it and want to make sure you're safe."
That had always been the thing. Nobody made you feel as safe as Kafka did. Accidents happened all the time at the sights of kaiju clean up and while it was dangerous for everyone involved. With Kafka you felt like at his side was the safest place that existed. Kafka squeezed your hand, closing his eyes and relishing in the touch of you. He would keep you safe no matter what. As he felt it as his duty as a man and friend. That is just who Kafka is deep down in his core. He squeezed your hand tighter resting his head on top of yours. Taking in the moment with you before you both got back to work. Yeah if you were by his side it was the safest place you could possibly be.
