But I think we see in the first episode that it's painful for Buck for Christopher to not be there, as well. He's a huge part of Buck's life. It's not Buck's biological child, but it certainly hits him really hard as well. It's something that he is missing from his life in these immediate episodes, absolutely. (X)

"So, I was thinking…"
Tilting her head to the side, (Y/n) let her eyes loll to the right to look across at Maddie. She knew that tone of voice. She knew whatever Maddie was going to say next was either going to be controversial or something big, possibly shocking.
She let herself sink further in her seat as she folded her arms over her chest, resting them down against her stomach that came up like a big bump in the road. Although sometimes, like now, her stomach acted like a cushion or an armrest.
(Y/n) had taken to seeing what she could rest on her bump when it started getting bigger, just to see Evan's reaction.
His words were usually something along the lines of 'Don't use it as a table!' or 'Stop resting your drink on them.' And if she tried to rest anything light on her stomach while she was walking around the house, he always responded with 'You know I'll carry that for you, right?' but she was only doing it to tease him.
"Oh yeah?" (Y/n) grinned and started to dance her fingertips across her bump.
"We need to throw you a baby shower."
"We do?" That wasn't what (Y/n) had been expecting to hear.
"Yes, we need to celebrate. Plus, I had Jee during covid, so we never got to celebrate one for her. I think it'd be nice, Buck's already desperate to throw one."
"Oh, I bet he is… I guess it will be fun." A tender smile danced across her lips as she looked down at her stomach as if she could see through to the baby. It would be nice to celebrate and have a little get together. Everything was going great now, (Y/n) and Evan had moved in together, he had adopted Minnie, they were having a baby together.
Other than the brief setback of the run in with Mick at the store, things were the best they had ever been for (Y/n). She had never been happier or more content and she felt that she had a family with Evan's team and Maddie had truly become a sister to her. It was lovely.
(Y/n) looked ahead at the road and tried to keep her eyes on the beach they were passing by.
She hadn't been out the house in two weeks.
When Evan went to work, (Y/n) felt too nervous to go out alone. She didn't want to run into Mick, he was out on bail and (Y/n) just knew that he would be hanging around this area in the hopes of running into her again. He loved terrorising her. He loved making her feel timid and frightened of her own shadow, it gave him power over her.
She couldn't go out on her own, what if she ran into him again? She wasn't going to be much use defending herself or the baby.
Staying home where she could lock all the doors and windows felt safer than trying to leave. Minnie had only just gone back to school this week and she was not enjoying it. She didn't want to be at school, she wanted to be at home with either (Y/n) or Evan or both of them. She wanted protection and she didn't feel safe at school.
It had taken Maddie almost an hour to convince (Y/n) to come out this afternoon with the girls.
It was a lovely warm day and Maddie said they could go to the beach or the arcades and do something with Minnie and Jee. Whether it was just going for a walk and an ice cream and then going home, at least being out for a drive would get them out the house and back to a sense of normality. And (Y/n) didn't feel able to decline.
"Did you have a shower for Minnie?" Maddie looked across at (Y/n), noticing the way she had shrunk down in her seat and was absentmindedly gliding her hand up and down her bump.
"No, my parents were happy I left Mick, but they thought it was a mistake to have Minnie on my own."
All of (Y/n)'s family had seen how Mick's temper would flare and they noticed the bad effect he had on her. Making (Y/n) feel belittled and constantly on edge, how she never got to spend much time with her family when he was around and how he tried to control what she did and who she talked to.
They were thrilled when (Y/n) managed to cut all ties with him and escape, but knowing she was having a baby on her own wasn't something her family thought she should do. They thought it would be too hard for (Y/n) and when she and Minnie moved out to LA, they worried she wouldn't fair well on her own looking after Minnie.
Things had gone a bit smoother between (Y/n) and her family when they saw how happy Minnie made (Y/n) and how well the pair of them were doing. And now that Evan was in the picture, (Y/n) felt more able to talk and be around her family without feeling judged or like they thought she couldn't cope.
"Well, we will throw a great shower and show them just how wrong they were."
"Do you think your parents would come?" (Y/n) didn't want to upset Maddie if talking about her parents wasn't something she wanted to do, but she was curious.
(Y/n) had heard Evan on the phone to his parents a few times- each time it had been him to call them, never the other way around. (Y/n) had yet to see them call him and ask how he was or what was going on in his life. She heard the way Evan sounded dull when he talked to his parents. He told them he was happy in a new relationship but he didn't seem like he was expecting much back from them or much of a reaction or a glowing praise.
She had also witnessed the conversation where Evan told them he had adopted Minnie.
His parents hadn't been upset, per say, but they sounded cautious, as if this was something Evan was doing on a whim rather than something he had thought and talked about extensively and knew in his heart it was something he wanted to do.
Evan had told them it was what he wanted, that he loved Minnie and if he was going to tell people she was his daughter, he needed to adopt her and make it real. He wanted to adopt Minnie so she was truly his daughter. It meant he could be an emergency contact for her and he could be on her doctor's file. He could be on her school file and he could pick her up from school early, take her to appointments or anywhere she needed.
It also meant he could give her his last name, something Minnie was now ecstatic with. She had been practising how to write Buckley and learning how to spell it and she had told her teacher as soon as her name was changed.
Both (Y/n) and Evan were hoping that in a few years when Minnie was older, these memories would be fuzzy for her. She wouldn't remember she used to have (Y/n)'s last name or that she hadn't had Evan in her life from the very beginning.
"I'm sure they will, I've told them how happy Buck is after the move and everything. I'll make sure they come over when we organise the shower." Maddie reached across and delicately ran her hand over (Y/n)'s bump for a few seconds.
She wouldn't stand for their parents not being there at the baby shower. This was another grandchild for them. Maddie had already made it clear how happy and complete Evan felt in this relationship and that in taking Minnie on, it meant the rest of them did too.
Minnie was referring to Maddie and Chimney as her aunt and uncle and Maddie had told her parents that Minnie would need to be treated as their grandchild along with Jee and the new baby. If they didn't, they wouldn't be having contact with the new baby because it wouldn't be fair to Minnie. This was the way things were going to be.
Tilting her head up, Maddie looked in the rear-view mirror to see the two girls sitting idly in the back. "Shall we go get an ice cream?"
Both of them grinned and squealed their replies, kicking their legs in their car seats. (Y/n) couldn't of been happier that Minnie seemed very happy when she was around Jee. She got along with her class mates, but she didn't exactly make friends very well, she liked to keep to herself and her teachers said it was hard to get her socialising.
But there was only 16 months difference between Minnie and Jee and they were getting along like a house on fire. (Y/n) wondered if it was because Jee was technically her cousin now and because they were family, maybe Minnie felt more at ease around her and more eager to play and get along.
Once Maddie pulled up, (Y/n) sat forward and clicked her spine into place which caused her to wince.
She could feel the baby wriggling and when she climbed out the car, it felt like her stomach was weighing her down to the floor. It was going to be a rough few months if she was six months along and was already starting to feel discomfort.
She opened the back door and smiled down at Minnie who had been singing along to the radio the whole drive. But now it was time to get out, she could see her daughter looked nervous.
She held the Fireman Sam teddy closer to her chest and tensed up when her belt was taken off. Evan had given her the teddy and she barely let it out of her sights. And Evan had been both surprised and delighted when he came home from work last week and found that Minnie had gotten a pink pen and drawn and splotchy birth mark onto the teddy to make it resemble him. It had also caused her to ask Evan why she didn't have a mark like that too.
"Is daddy coming?"
"No, baby he's at work today. We're having a girls day." (Y/n) lifted Minnie out of her seat and set her down.
The same as (Y/n), Minnie hadn't left the house the first week after the shopping incident. She didn't want to and they didn't want to rush her. She had gone back to school this week but she hated every moment of it and was relieved to be taken back home at the end of the day. This was the first time she was going out somewhere other than school, but she wanted Evan.
She knew he would keep them safe, just like he did when he bustled into the shop two weeks ago and took them home. He promised he would keep her safe and Minnie wanted her dad stood in front of her like a protective shield. She wanted to be wrapped up in his arms because no bad people would mess with him.
"Your daddy said he wanted pictures of you having fun, why don't we see if we can win him a teddy from the arcades after an ice cream?" Maddie locked the car and looked over at Minnie who seemed to relax at her words.
With her left hand tightly clasped in (Y/n)'s and her teddy pinned under her arm, Minnie reached her other hand out and held Jee's hand. Both to keep her cousin heading in the right direction and to make them both feel safe and secure. The four of them made their way to the promenade along the sea front where Maddie said they would find an ice cream shop.
Minnie leaned her head into (Y/n)'s hip and nuzzled into her side as they walked down the promenade. She didn't want to be here, she wanted to go back home or stay driving in the car where it was safe.
"I want daddy." She tilted her head back and looked up at (Y/n) with those big pupils that looked like black holes that could ensnare everything in their path.
She let go of (Y/n)'s hand in favour of moving her arm to her chest to hold the Fireman Sam teddy so she could nuzzle her face against the top of the soft cotton. She wanted to go home now.
"You can call him later and tell him how brave you've been going out to the beach today."
"He'll be extra proud of you." Maddie winked when she could see that her words clicked something inside of Minnie's mind. She might just try and stay out a bit longer if she thought she could make Evan proud, not that she would have to do much to do that in the first place. He would be proud she had left the house, but if she could tell him she had been all the way to the beach and out for a long walk, he would be very pleased.
She nodded, her expression a little more relaxed, but she still didn't look so satisfied or at ease. She kept her mouth and nose nuzzled into her teddy and started humming as they all walked in line down the path beside the sea front.
"Wait with aunt Maddie and Jee while I grab us all some ice cream." (Y/n) kissed the top of Minnie's head and gently ushered her to stand over with Maddie and Jee.
Minnie huddled up into Maddie's side while her beady eyes followed her mum who waited in line for the ice cream. She tucked her toy tighter into her chest and pressed her lips against it again while her feet began to tap against the floor.
When Maddie took a few steps back and sat down on a bench, Jee perched next to her, holding her own teddy in her hands and quietly chatting to it like it was an old friend. And Minnie gingerly looked up at Maddie before tapping her knee, silently asking if she could sit with her.
"Come here," Maddie murmured, lifting the little girl up to sit her down on her knee. She could tell it made Minnie feel better and more secure when she felt Maddie's arms cocoon around her middle. No one could try and grab her or hurt her if she was wrapped up like this. "What's this?"
She pointed at the teddy in Minnie's hands and perched her chin on her niece's shoulder.
"It's daddy," She held the teddy out so Maddie could see her craftwork and the blobbed red ink above the right eye that resembled Evan's birthmark rather well. "Are you older than him?"
The question caught Maddie by surprise and she raised a brow, fighting off a smile as she swayed them from side to side.
"I am, I used to look after your dad when he was little."
"He said I'll be a big sister, like you… but why is daddy taller than you if he's littler?" Minnie liked the thought of being like Maddie, when Evan explained that Maddie was his big sister and she was very important in his life. He said she would be the same to the new baby.
Although Evan would never let history repeat itself where Minnie would have to love and raise her sibling, he didn't want that for anyone, especially not his own kids. As much as Evan loved Maddie for raising him, she shouldn't of had to and she had been the best part of his childhood, but that must have also been the worst part of hers. Forced to grow up, forced to raise him like he was hers rather than her brother.
"He's always been tall, you can't control your height." She watched as Minnie snuggled back into her chest and shifted down a little while her eyes focused on her teddy that was squashed against her chest.
When (Y/n) came back over and sat down next to her, Maddie grinned as Jee shuffled into her side to reach out for an ice cream. Both (Y/n) and Minnie seemed to be a bit calmer than this morning when they decided to come out here.
She knew Evan hadn't been happy when he spoke to her the other day. He was angry that Mark had the nerve to try and hurt (Y/n) in broad daylight, especially when Minnie had been there. (Y/n) had been doing so well going out on her own and feeling more confident in herself, and no Mark had gone and set her progress back miles and Evan just wanted to pummel him for it.
But for now, they would all be okay, and they would have a fun afternoon together.
***
Reaching down, (Y/n) kindly took the Fireman Sam teddy held out to her and she stuffed it in her bag hanging on her shoulder. Minnie couldn't carry two teddies at once if she wanted to hold (Y/n)'s hand as well. She had barely let go of her mother's hand at all, too afraid letting go might get them separated or allow someone like the bad man to hurt either of them.
But Minnie had done amazingly well so far. They had walked down the promenade, been along the sea front for a while, and now they were in the arcades.
Maddie had helped Minnie win a dog teddy from a crane machine and that was what Minnie was holding proudly. She wanted to give it to Evan when he came home tonight so she was parading around with it, meaning her Fireman Sam teddy was confined to (Y/n)'s bag for the time being.
When Minnie took her hand again, (Y/n) glanced around the arcade that was just a little too loud for her liking.
She looked across to where Maddie and Jee were just finishing up with one of the water gun games and she and Minnie headed over to them.
"This one! Mama do this one." Jee tugged on Maddie's hand and guided her over to the basketball game. She knew that was one that Maddie had a weakness for and when Maddie raised a brow at (Y/n), she rolled her eyes playfully and nodded.
When Evan was younger and Maddie used to take him to the arcade, this was the game they spent the most time and money on. They would play and play and rack up the tickets because both of them were accustomed players. (Y/n) was happy to take Evan's place and have a battle with her sister in law.
She felt Minnie cuddle up into her side while Jee stood between Maddie's legs, her hands excitedly tapping away on the front of the machine so she could eagerly watch the numbers at the back.
Clicking her spine into place, (Y/n) ran her hand along the side of her stomach where the baby was happily kicking up a fuss. She reached forward when the buzzer went off and grabbed the nearest basketball. (Y/n) liked this game.
"Go mummy!"
"Hurry mama!"
Jee helped roll the basketballs towards Maddie while Minnie clung to (Y/n)'s leg and leant her head against her mum's stomach. Jostling every now and then when (Y/n) had to keep reaching out for the basketballs because waiting for them to fall to the end wasted precious time.
Minnie began to count the scores, shouting out every time (Y/n) scored and she banged her hands on the side of the machine happily when both of them got through to the next round.
"I'm sweating already," (Y/n) mumbled, dragging her fingers through her hair as she clicked her back into place again. Leaning back and forth was starting to cause an ache in her lower back but the competitive streak within her was taking over.
Once the second round started, the hoop began to move from side to side, but it didn't bother either woman. Both of them seemed to be hitting baskets just one second after the other.
"Yay mummy! Round three."
"I don't think I can, you take over for me." (Y/n) took a step back and steered Minnie in front of her. She didn't have the energy for another round, and Maddie's score wasn't enough to get her into a third round which meant (Y/n) had won.
She rolled the basketballs down for Minnie who did her best, getting two or three before the timer ran out.
"Okay, what's next, now that you've beaten me?"
"Horses? Please?" Jee looked up at Maddie and pointed to the miniature merry go round next to the Dance Step game.
"Do you want to have a go?" Maddie looked down at Minnie but she shook her head. She was more interested in the crane machines or the 2p machines rather than the motion rides like that.
Minnie took (Y/n)'s hand again as they followed Maddie over to the merry go round so they could watch Jee. She was younger so this was something she enjoed and preferred and Jee was such a smiley girl that they would be able to take a lot of good photos today. They had gotten some selfies earlier where both girls had ice cream splattered across their faces. It had been a while since (Y/n) had taken any photos that weren't just of Evan or Minnie, so to have a few with Maddie and then some with all four of them was lovely.
Once Jee was perched on the golden horse and the merry go round was slowly spinning in circles, playing a rhythmic, if rather pitched tune, Maddie stood next to (Y/n). The pair of them leaned back against the Dance Step machine with tender grins and Maddie had her phone out, taking a little video.
Glancing behind her, (Y/n) watched the Dance icon stepping from left to right as the arrows lit up the screen. She loved those games, especially when she got to play the old nineties tunes and levelled up to the hard rounds.
"If I wasn't pregnant right now…" She looked wistfully at the machine while she felt Maddie's elbow gently nudging her side.
(Y/n) couldn't try it, not even on the easy level, not with her back playing up, but if they came back to the arcade once the baby was born, that would be the first game she would go on. She and Maddie could have a few rounds and see who could best the other.
When a sudden bang echoed through the overcrowded arcade, (Y/n) glanced to the left and felt a shudder run through her. Someone had backed up into one of the penny machines and the echo caused Minnie to jolt into (Y/n)'s side. Big noises were never a problem, but since the shopping incident, Minnie was viewing everything as a threat.
"It's okay," (Y/n) murmured softly, running her hand through Minnie's hair and brushing the strands away from her eyes.
Minnie dithered at her side, her eyes wide and scanning around the arcade as if she was searching for a threat.
This was why she wanted Evan to come out with them. If he was here, he would pick her up. If Evan was here, he would hold her in his arms and tell her everything was alright and no one would dare mess with him or come near Minnie or her mum if he was here.
But without him, everyone was getting too close. There were teenagers running around and a few men messing around near the machines like they were trying to break into them or shake them until all the coins fell out.
What if one of them came over and tried to hurt (Y/n) again? What if they pushed her or went to hurt Maddie? What if they started saying mean things like the other man did and tried to come near Minnie and Jee? What would they do?
Minnie could feel her heart racing as she cuddled the teddy closer to her chest, binding her arms around it so tight that if it had been breathing, it would of suffocated by now.
When the men continued to bash into the machine, Minnie couldn't find the will to look anywhere else. She could barely feel her mum's fingers running through her hair anymore trying to calm her down. But when the two men turned around and one of them started walking their way, Minnie started to shake.
She twisted to the left and scuttled away, following the patterned carpet like it was a trail guiding her somewhere safer. She weaved between the machines, jumping at every loud note of music that blasted from the machines and each time one of the zombie games let out a gunshot.
Her head tilted down and her arms pinned into her sides as she pelted off in a rush, unsure where exactly she was aiming for. She just wanted to get away and find somewhere safe.
"Minnie- baby no!" Reaching behind her, (Y/n) patted her hand down on Maddie's arm before she tried to hurry after her daughter.
Something had spooked her and she was pelting through the arcade.
(Y/n) shifted her bag strap so it was looped over her neck rather than just her shoulder, allowing her to speed up without losing her bag in the process. She weaved between the machines, holding her breath as she tried to look for her daughter's curly hair or spot the purple dress she was wearing.
Her panicked eyes scanned round as she weaved between parents, racing children and loud teenagers constantly getting in her path. Even though it was clear (Y/n) was trying to hurry after her child before they got separated. She couldn't allow that. Minnie was in a panic and if she got lost she would start to scream or think someone was going to snatch her.
She took a sharp left as her heart jumped into her throat; she was right near the exit. What if Minnie bolted outside? (Y/n) could easily lose her in the sea of people swarming about. Someone could take her hand and drag her away. Minnie could get swept up and wander too far.
Raging thoughts dwelled in her head as her throat clogged up and she couldn't take a proper breath. But just as she was about to rush out the open doors, something caught her eye.
"Minnie no!"
Lurching to the left, (Y/n) reached out for her five year old, but she wasn't quick enough. Minnie scuttled inside the prize drop of the crane machine before (Y/n) could get to her.
"Minnie, Minnie get out of there." (Y/n) dropped to her knees, despite the ache it caused in her lower stomach and the shockwave that it rattled up her spine.
She pushed the flap open and tried to reach her hand up, but Minnie was mewling like a trapped kitten. Her daughter wriggled and screamed, writhing in panic until she managed to shimmy out of the drop zone and climb over the plastic barrier. She tumbled like an acrobat and flopped onto the styrofoam cuttings and mingled in with the Disney Dumbo toys. The five year old curled up like she was trying to somehow blend in or become invisible, her dog toy cuddled to her chest and her head nuzzled against one of the other teddies surrounding her.
Each breath she took finally started to mellow out and she stopped screaming and whining, switching to deep breaths to try and calm back down.
Great.
(Y/n) could feel a wave of anger radiating through her, despite how badly she tried to fight it off when she looked at her daughter.
Why hide in there? She knew she couldn't go messing with the machines, it was dangerous. She could of broken her arm or a leg trying to get up there, it was a good job she was small and nimble.
Now (Y/n) was going to have to find an attendant and get them to unlock the machine to get Minnie out. And people were already starting to notice that there was a little girl hidden in with the toys. The last thing they needed was to cause another scene. Why would Minnie hide in there if she felt scared or spooked? How would being in there give her security or help her?
With a sigh, (Y/n) moved her hands to the glass and heaved herself off her knees and back to her feet. She tilted her head back and pressed her hand to her temple as she let herself lean against the glass separating her from her daughter.
She opened her eyes and jerked back a little when she felt a hand on her shoulder, but she relaxed, seeing it was only Maddie who had Jee sat on her right hip. Maddie seemed to look around, panic fuelling her eyes as she tried to find her niece, but when she looked at the claw machine, her lips pursed and her shoulders dropped.
"Oh," She muttered, fighting back a defeated smile while she squeezed (Y/n)'s arm. "I'll go get someone." She jostled Jee higher on her hip and hurried off to find someone who would have the keys.
"Baby, why'd you get in there?" (Y/n) rested one hand on her hip as she turned to face the glass which she leaned her temple against.
She looked down at her daughter who stayed curled up with her knees imbedded into the styrofoam and her tummy tucked over her legs. The way she looked up with those big doe eyes through her lashes made (Y/n)'s anger fizzle out and a wave of sympathy washed over her instead.
She barely managed to hear Minnie whisper "Bad man." As tears began to trickle down the little girl's face and she stayed cuddled up, wishing everyone crowding round would go away.
(Y/n) pushed off the machine and stood back on her feet properly when Maddie jogged back over with a young man following her. He didn't look much older than nineteen, with floppy hair falling in every direction and he was lazily chewing a piece of gum. The faded, bored look in his eyes brightened a little when he realised there actually was a little girl stuck in one of their machines.
"You can't take anything from the machine, you know that, right?" He raised a bored eyebrow and unclipped the keychain from his belt.
"She's not trying to take a toy, she's frightened." (Y/n) couldn't help but scowl at him as she folded her arms over her stomach and waited for him to unlock the glass door.
He huffed, nodding along as if to appease her while he switched to another key and tried to ram it into the lock.
By the time he switched to the fifth key on his chain, (Y/n) shared an annoyed look with Maddie and inched closer to the machine. Minnie was still cuddled up and the sight of the stranger in front of the machine was making her tremble and cower back. She had tears running down her face and every time she looked over at (Y/n), her lower lip wobbled.
"Do you know what you're doing?" (Y/n) snapped when the next key didn't work either. If he carried on she would take them from him and find the right one herself.
But her jaw dropped and she heard Maddie let out a disgruntled noise when they both watched the last key wriggle in the lock and suddenly, it snapped. Half the metal key stayed rammed in the lock while the end broke off in the attendant's hand.
His jaw dropped and those tired, unbothered eyes finally widened as shock plastered across his face. That clearly wasn't part of the plan and he hadn't done this before. No kid had managed to climb into the machine. Many had tried, some got into the prize drop area before their parents dragged them out. And a lot of stupid teenagers got their arms caught trying to reach up for a prize. But now the door was jammed, and Minnie was too unsettled to scramble back down. She could hurt herself trying to wriggle back down that thin prize drop zone.
"Oh shit." He mumbled to himself and he looked petrified when he turned to look at both women who were now glaring daggers into him.
"Well? What are you going to do now?" Maddie sounded stern and authoritive but she could feel herself getting angry when he shrugged.
"Lady, I- I don't have another key, anyway it's jammed."
He actually flinched when he heard (Y/n) mutter 'stupid boy' under her breath and when she gave his shoulder a forceful nudge, he took the hint. He backed up and stood to one side, deciding to tell other people to move on and stop crowding round.
"I guess I'm calling Evan." (Y/n) laughed cynically and fished around in her bag for her phone. She needed the fire department to come down here and bust this lock open to get her daughter out. And who better than her partner and his team to do the honours?
She stood to one side, staying close to the machine while Maddie moved over and looked down at Minnie, quietly asking if she was alright in there.
"Hi sweetheart, how's it going? Did you all go out somewhere?" Evan's voice made butterflies ignite in (Y/n)'s stomach and she fidgeted on the spot when she felt the baby moving too.
"Are you out on a call?"
"We're just about to head back to the station, why? Is everything okay?"
"Evan… could- could you and the team swing by and help us? We're at the arcades, and Minnie's got a bit, stuck."
It felt like too much to ask, but if she didn't ask or if Evan said they couldn't, she would have to call 911 anyway and get a different fire service to come out and help them. (Y/n) didn't want to bother Evan at work, she had never rang him at work before until two weeks ago after the whole supermarket fiasco. Now here she was, doing it again.
"Uh, stuck how?" Apprehension flooded Evan's voice but (Y/n) could hear him moving about and she just knew he was already getting the team ready to come down to them.
"She's inside a crane machine." (Y/n) darted her eyes over to Minnie who was sniffling, but she was listening attentively to Maddie who was trying to chat to her and keep her from fretting.
"Shit. Text me the address, we're coming now baby."
(Y/n) said her goodbyes and quickly sent a text to say which arcade they were in. Although by the time the team got here, people would be talking and murmuring and hovering around so it would be easy enough to see which one the commotion was in.
She leaned her head back against the machine and tapped her phone against her thigh as she looked down at Minnie.
"Your dad's coming to get you out." (Y/n) managed a tepid smile when Maddie jostled Jee on her hip, murmuring that she was going to see her dad too. At least the boys would get to see them for a little while, and both girls would be over the moon at seeing their dads on the job. Although this wasn't the best of circumstances.
"Daddy?"
A smile pulled at Minnie's lips as she lifted her head and wiped her nose against her sleeve. Locking eyes with her mum who rose a brow.
"Don't tell me you got in there so I could call your dad to come and get you out." She doubted that was Minnie's intention, she had been petrified of something and gone into panic mode. But she could see Minnie was calming down already at the thought of Evan coming to the rescue.
***
Evan looped the tool kit over his shoulder and spun away from the truck with a look of concentration plastered across his face.
He could feel Eddie and Chimney hovering close behind him as he walked away from the truck and headed over to the promenade. This wasn't the kind of callout he was expecting today. When (Y/n) called, he thought she would be telling him that they had gone out and had a good day, or that they only went out for a little while and then headed back home. He wasn't expecting to be told Minnie had scuttled into one of the arcade machines, for some very strange reason he wasn't sure of yet.
At least this was preferable to the phone call he'd had the other week. Never again did Evan want a stranger answering (Y/n)'s phone, trying desperately to tell him that there was some kind of incident involving his family at the store. He wasn't ready to be rushing from the station down to the shops, fretting that he would have to take his girls to the hospital.
"Why are we here, again?" Hen hurried to keep up with the rest of them, looping a medic bag on her shoulder just in case they needed to assess anyone.
"For some unknown reason, my daughter's managed to climb into one of the prize machines."
Evan jogged a bit faster as he spoke and rounded the corner. He had memorised the address (Y/n) sent to him, but he didn't really need it. There were people hovering outside the third arcade down the promenade and Evan would bet that was where his family was.
"Excuse me." He politely weaved between the families and teens all moving around, pretending to play on the games when really, they were trying to get a look at what was going on.
He saw Maddie first. He rested his hand down on her shoulder and grinned softly at Jee who was in her arm, looking very tired.
"Hi," Maddie squeezed his wrist and took a few steps back to let him get in front of her and see the scene. And when her sights set on Chimney, she moved over to him, letting their daughter scuttle into his arms as she squealed. She hadn't been expecting to see her dad here, in his uniform.
A wary smile pulled at (Y/n)'s lips that were curved around her thumb as she had been biting her nails for the last ten minutes. She pushed off the machine she had been leaning against like a guard, protecting her daughter from anyone and everyone passing by.
The moment Evan was within reach, (Y/n) looped her arms around his neck and pushed up on her tiptoes to be level with him. She kissed his cheek while his left arm bound tight around her waist and he pulled her into his chest.
He dropped the tool kit down by his feet, briefly skimming his fingers across (Y/n)'s stomach before he leaned back to look down at her.
"Dare I ask why she's in there?" His eyes darted between the machine and (Y/n), noting that Minnie hadn't realised yet that he was here.
"She got scared and ran off, but I don't know why she clambered in there." (Y/n) felt like she could of melted on the spot when Evan hummed and pressed a tender kiss to her temple. She could feel his thumb stroking up and down her back while he slowly inched her backwards until he was in front of the machine.
When he unravelled his arms from (Y/n), Evan tapped his knuckles against the glass and placed both hands on his hips. He arched a brow and tilted his head down when Minnie's head shot up and a mixture of surprise and awe lit up her teary face when she realised Evan was here. Part of her hadn't believed that he would come down to get her out.
"Minnie Buckley."
The five year old scurried round so she was sitting up rather than lying down and she pinned the teddy she rightfully won earlier against her chest. The way she looked up at Evan through her lashes already had his heart melting and whatever sternness he had about him was starting to fade away.
"Let's get you out of there," He sighed and crouched down to rummage through the bag and see what he could find.
When he lifted his head, he frowned and tilted his head to one side as his fingers traced the lock. Someone had jammed the wrong key in and snapped it. No wonder they couldn't get her out.
"Okay," He grabbed a few tools and stood up to his full height again. At least Minnie had gotten into one of the larger crane machines, she seemed to have a lot of room in there which meant she hadn't panicked or gotten claustraphobic yet. "Shuffle back out the way, baby."
He waved his hand until she took the hint and inched back until she was pressed up against the back of the machine.
(Y/n) took a few more steps out the way when Eddie walked over to her, a kind smile on his face as he moved to stand beside Evan. He helped Evan wriggle the lock until they got the jammed piece of metal from the lock. And Evan switched tools, using a few picks and metal hooks while Eddie twisted the bolt lock with a wrench and the managed to break it.
Once the lock was broken and loose in the glass door, Evan curled his hand into a fist and bashed it against the lock. In one swift movement, the metal lock dropped into the machine, disappearing into the styrofoam. Which allowed Evan to hook his finger into the glass door and pull it open.
He took a step back, unable to stop the gracious smile from pulling at his lips and the moment he opened his arms, Minnie scrambled forward. She looped her arms- and the teddy- around Evan's neck and jumped so he could pick her up and cuddle her against his chest.
His lips attached to the top of her head and he moved over to the side while Eddie stuffed the tools back into the bag and moved over to Hen and Bobby. The three of them would take a wander round and wait back at the truck while Evan and Chimney finished up here with their families.
(Y/n) curled her hands around Evan's bicep and leaned her cheek against his shoulder, murmuring a soft "Thank you," into his arm while he kissed the top of her head.
After a few moments of running his hand up and down Minnie's back, Evan tilted backwards to look down at her and he rose a brow when she gingerly looked up at him through her lashes.
"Minnie, why'd you climb in there? You know that's naughty."
They both knew he never used her name unless it was serious or she was in trouble. Hearing her name from Evan's lips made her shudder and she tilted forward to bury her face in his shirt, but Evan wasn't having any of it. He held her in his right arm while his other hand gently but firmly gripped her chin and tilted her head back so she was looking at him again.
"What were you doing?" They needed to know. They had to know why she thought climbing into there was a better idea than staying with (Y/n) or simply running away if something was frightening.
She couldn't do that again because she wasn't going to fit into cramped places like that. She was lucky she was slim enough to get into that machine without becoming stuck or gaining a bad injury. Evan was more than happy to come down here and be the one to get her out of that machine, but he had to at least understand what Minnie had been up to and make sure she knew it was dangerous to do that.
"There was a bad man, hitting the machines… he- he couldn't get me out of there, could he?"
Evan's eyes darted over to (Y/n) and she could see the panic lighting him up like a Christmas tree, so she squeezed his arm and shook her head. Mark wasn't here. They hadn't been in any danger.
"Someone was getting rowdy, messing with the machines, she must have thought he would do something." She ran a hand down her face, warding off tears. Not only had Mark set (Y/n) back in her recovery, but now he had petrified Minnie too, and (Y/n) wanted to keep him as far away from her daughter as possible. She left him so he couldn't inflict any pain or panic onto her, but he had still managed it.
Minnie thought someone was going to hurt them and she had seen a chance to get away. If her mum couldn't get her out of that machine, then neither could a bad man.
With a sigh, Evan pressed his lips to the top of her head and peppered kisses up and down her temple and cheek. His hand smoothed up and down her back as he swayed them from left to right.
"No, no he couldn't, but you could of gotten stuck or hurt. If anything like that happens again, you don't leave mummy or aunt Maddie, okay? You just wait for me to come get you."
He felt her snuggle deeper into his chest with her head tucked safely beneath his chin and he smiled softly. His lips continued to pepper kisses against the top of her head while he reached one arm out to tuck (Y/n) up into his side. The three of them slowly made their way outside to where Maddie, Chimney and Jee were stood on the promenade.
"Please don't do that again, baby." Evan murmured into Minnie's hair. He didn't want to tell her off when she had been frightened and rightfully wanted to stay safe. But he didn't want the next phone call to be saying that Minnie had broken her arm or her leg or that she had gotten trapped. It would be a lot harder to get her out of one of those machines or something just like it if she was stuck and distressed and they had to cut through metal to reach her.
Minnie gingerly leaned her head back and unravelled one arm from Evan's neck so she could show him the toy dog she had won on one of the other machines. She watched as Evan raised a brow and reached his hand up to observe the toy.
"I won this for you daddy." Her voice was quiet and soft and very drained, making Evan sure that when he got home tonight, she would be fast asleep.
"For me?" When she nodded, Evan pecked her cheek and nuzzled his nose against hers. "Thank you, little mouse."

Weekly Recap | October 28th-November 3rd 2024
Tumblr media
To my American neighbours, I hope you've all exercised your right to vote or will soon do so, and I'm hoping for all of our sakes for a good outcome after Tuesday. 🙏
Complete
all dressed up (with somewhere to go) by 42hrb / @exhuastedpigeon (S8, Halloween, Getting Together | 3K | Teen): “Hey,” Buck grinned when he reached Spider-man, grabbing him by the wrist to turn him around. He peeled the mask up just enough to kiss him. That was weird too, he’d never had to lean down to kiss Tommy before, even if it was only by an inch. Maybe the boots Buck was wearing had a bigger sole than he’d realized. Buck wrapped his arms around him and deepened the kiss, groaning just a little when he felt Tommy wrap his arms around Buck too. “Evan?”
Cleaning Up After Communion by Pansys_goth_gf (Post-S8E5: Masks, Friends to Fiancés | 3K | Teen): “I want to fuck a priest.” Across from him, Frank blinks. Pauses. Then sets down his notebook and leans forwards. “Do you want to fuck a priest, or do you want to fuck God?” Or, Eddie crushes on a priest, figures out his feelings, and does something selfish
never believe it's not so by rainbow_nerds/ @rainbow-nerdss (Magic AU, Maddie POV | 6K | Teen): Maddie Buckley never expected to enjoy hanging out with her little brother's best friend. She just didn't think they could have all that much in common. Turns out they've got more in common than she could have expected. And she can't tell Buck. In which Maddie has magic. And so does Buck. And so does Eddie. And she can't tell either of them. Or: 5 times Maddie has to listen to Buck and Eddie talk about each other without spilling their secrets, and one time they actually talk to each other.
i put a spell on you (because you're mine) by teenytinytomlinson/ @littlefreakbuckley (S8, Infidelity, Getting Together | 11K | Explicit): Tommy bails on Buck's Halloween plans, Eddie offers to take his place in the couple's costume contest, and Buck goes home with a grand prize.
🔥we won't look back, we won't be lost by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Post-S7, Dad Buck | 37K | Teen): Over six years after the 118 rescued a baby from a pipe, Buck meets that same child again on a different call. And in all that time, she never found a home. OR: Buck adopts Pipe Baby while Eddie waits for Christopher to come home.
WIP
eddie diaz vs. the dating apps by savemebobbynash (Post-S7, Getting Together | 5/8 | 10K | Mature): Newly out as gay, Eddie Diaz explores dating apps with the help of his teenage son and his chaotic best friend.
🔥 go and kill, go and die by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Zombie Apocalypse AU | 11/14 | 48K | Mature): The 118 are a group of survivors in a small California town in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. For months they've been isolated and safe. But the arrival of some new players, the search for some missing loved ones, will shake everything up and put their little team in jeopardy.

Always, more than enough
Tumblr media
Evan Buckley x Female reader
summary: Reader is going through somenthing at uni, but Buck's the perfect boyfriend words: 1484 warnings: smut Author's note: this is the first of my work that i ever publish, so please try and be kind. Also, english's not my first language so I'm sorry in advance for any mistakes and stuff
(Y/N) had just finished her last lesson of the day;she didn't imagine the second year could be even worse than the first, not that she didn't like her major or studying for it ... It was the ambience that she started to despise. Even if she found a solid group of friends, there was this bunch of girls that she really really couldn't stand. And it was so frustrating that at least one of them was in every lesson of her everyday schedule.
It wasn't like she argued with them or somethingbut the fact that they always had to say something about her and her life
The worst was when they spoke about Evan.He literally was the perfect boyfriend and (Y/N) couldn't tolerate their comment about their relationship.
"You sure he doesn't need a nurse? I could be his" said Sarah one time, and for this (Y/N) could blame her jealousy for her reaction because she knew Evan was an extremely attractive guy. But when Jennifer said "I really don't know why he's with you..." and then Carmen "yeah I'm sure he would want more than someone like you".
(Y/N) was sure of her relationship and in fact never really answered that type of comment...But there was that part of her she didn't have the strength to blame for being hurt about them.
How can a girl say that to another girl?
She couldn't answer that either.
(Y/N) was currently walking through theuniversity's courtyard to go to the bus station, all while recording an audio to her boyfriend about her day after he send her some texts when he woke up later in the evening after his shift.
"God I'm so fucking tired Buck, Mr Brown really has to learn how to not shout bec-" she suddenly stopped at the sign after her "no fucking way".
Her phone registered that too and when she arrived inches from Evan his phone rang for her notification.
"what the hell are you doing here?"
he was smiling.
God.
"surprise?" and then he smirked. (Y/N) nearly jumped to hug him and wrap her arms around his neck, but when they were about to kiss she reminded him "not here" and glanced around.
Evan knew she wasn't a fan of PDA and so when she would rather kiss him in private he didn't ask her too much about it. But now it was starting to feel strange she got so nervous near him at college...
"come on, you're at mine's tonight".
(Y/N) only smiled brighter and followed him to his car while she told him all about her day; and Evan listened to everything she said, every topic she defined interesting so he could bring it up later, every stop at the coffee shop she did so he would regulate her caffeine for the night and let her sleep, every essay she said she would forget so he could remind her eventually. He loved to listen to her. He loved when she rambled like that because she actually stopped his overthinking of everything when she did.
"shit! I was supposed to grab dinner at myparents's tonight" she suddenly said when they entered the car.
"already did that." He answered. She didn't know whether to be confused or impressed.
"I called your mum and told her my plan. Because I know how you hate Wednesdays and your mum cooks for you on them. After work I stopped at your parents'house and grabbed dinner -which by the way smelled delicious- and then came grab you"
Yeah... She was definitely impressed
She bent over Buck's car console and kissed him. (Y/N) was beyond grateful to have him in her life.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing (Y/N) did after she took off her shoes the moment Evan closed his house door was to grab his face and pull him in a desperate kiss. He was kind of shocked at the sudden urgency of her hands on him but he couldn't really complain, it was so long since they could kiss like this because of their packed schedules.
Bucks groans in (Y/N)'s mouth and starts to fidget with her jeans untill she stepped away to get off her shirt first. Buck was so distracted from kissing her breasts that he didn't realise she stripped down her pants too. (Y/N) took his face again and licked his lips, smiling, "now strip".
She was so demanding, Evan's cock twitched just for her tone. He quickly took off his shirt while (Y/N) turned around to go in the bedroom. It was then that he smirked, finally realising how tiny her panties were.
"look at that, my super smart slut" he said smacking her ass. She let out a yelp but she was smirking too while she led him to his room. Evan just followed like a lost puppy trying to get out of his jeans on the way.
The moment he saw (Y/N) finally, completely naked he pinned her to the wall and got on his knees
"can I?"
It was such a turn on that even after years of being together and the fact that (Y/N) was ready naked and all for him, Evan still asked for her permission.
She answered putting her hand through his hair and putting his head close to her.
He was so good at licking her.
It didn't last long because Evan was entering her pussy with his tongue and then he started sucking on her clit and -
"Evan" she breathed out.
The first time she did it, Buck was shocked at how he was affected by the sound of his name from her lips. But now he got addicted to it.
(Y/N) was a moaning mess and Buck started to alternate a lick and a bite to her lips, "Baby I-I really love this but-" , another moan at the sign of Buck stopping immediatly and looking at her from his lashes.
He was so hot.
"I need you".
That was enough for Buck to grab her by the thights and put her on the bed; he crawled over her and smiled but that didn't last long because (Y/N) started to stroke his cock and he fucking whimpered.
"Sweatheart" he started moving his hips in her hand, "yes baby?", she smirked at his flushed state "ple-se". (Y/N) put his cock near her entrance and when he felt her wetness Buck completly lost it and pushed into her. They both moaned at the new contact.
Evan gave her few moments to get adjusted before he started thrust so hard she scratched his back with her nails.
"Yes! Keep going Evan"
He kissed her neck and never once thought to change the pace because he could feel (Y/N) clench around him signaling him she was close. It was only when Buck started to moan more loudly that she allowed herself to really be in the moment and come on his dick. He followed shortly after her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They stayed on the bed readjusting their breathing and cuddling for another half an hour before Buck got up and microwed them some food to eat in bed. (Y/N) couldn't even think to get up, Evan only worsened her tiredness.
The atmosphere was so confortable while they eat half covered with Evan's sheet, (Y/N) covered in one of his shirt, that she thought it was the right moment to answer the dubts that was forming in her boyfriend's mind since some weeks;
"I'm sorry", he looked up at her confused but she wasn't looking at him so he knew she needed time to actually talk.
"Do you think I'm enough for you?" at this Evan put his napkin away and got closer to her "what are you talking about baby? You're everything for me"; (Y/N) left a breth escape her lips and a light smile starts to form on them, but she got Buck worry now.
"What happened (Y/N)?" he put his hand on her thigh and followed her eyes in order to got her to look at him. She breathed in again. "Some girls at school... let's just say they think you could do better than me". Evan immediatly wrapped his arms around her.
"Oh love, you know they only say this 'cause they're jelous of you", she chuckled "yeah i know, it's stupid and I'm sorry I got you upset by avoiding you around campus but i really hate when they comment about us and it's even more stupid because I never cared for others opinion but when it comes to you I-"
Evan stopped her by kissing her.
"Thank you for finally telling what you were stressing about" another kiss "don't ever think you have to apologize, to me of all people, for your feelings" another kiss "and don't you ever, ever think you're not enough"
(Y/N) smiled at him.
"I love you". It was her that kissed him now.
"I love you too".

Six Sentence Saturday (or something like that)
Starting on my second bucktommy fic 😌 This was inspired by a post I'm pretty sure @unfuckablebogtroll made a few months ago that I can't find anymore, but the gist is that Tommy buys his house during the 2007/8 financial crash, refinances during covid, and has been saving since then to be able to renovate it himself. In this fic Buck's obviously going to volunteer to help Tommy out ( with his previous construction experience and all) and slowly insinuate himself into Tommy's home without either of them fully realizing it...at first. Buck learns Tommy as he learns more about his house: starting the inside and working outwards. Meanwhile Tommy learns how to let people help him and that Buck's really in it for the long haul ✨
“Hey, can I ask you a question?”
Looking over his shoulder, Tommy raises a brow. He’s elbow-deep in Evan’s kitchen sink, warm, sudsy water tickling his skin as he finishes the last of the dinner dishes. Evan made a chicken parm that had Tommy contemplating the existence of God and carefully planning the head he’d be giving his boyfriend later. As long as Tommy had known him–which was admittedly not very long–Evan has been a shoot first, ask questions later kind of guy. More likely to barrel through any awkwardness than couch his questions in some kind of lead up. “Of course you can, you know that.”
Evan takes the plate Tommy offers him in hand, drying it and setting it aside, his expression just hesitant enough to give Tommy pause.
“Why do we always hang out at my place?”
The question startles a laugh from him. That…wasn’t what Tommy had been expecting. “We don’t, sometimes we go on dates.” Tommy allows his face to settle, faux serious and gently teasing. “Are you claiming I’m not romancing you enough Buckley, because I take that accusation very seriously.”
It gets him the reaction he was hoping for: Evan rolls his eyes like he’s aiming to hit 20 Klicks into the stratosphere and keep climbing. He can hear Evan's common refrain in his head, only coworkers call me Buckley, and I don’t even want to contemplate explaining what we’ve been up to to HR.
 “Ha, ha. You know that’s not what I meant. You don’t think it’s a little weird that it’s been two months and I haven’t made it past your garage?”
Tommy’s brain goes straight to the gutter, but Evan’s arms are crossed over his chest in what Tommy has come to learn is a tell-tale sign of him feeling a little insecure.
Tommy tucks away the innocent expression he’d been pulling and sighs, yanking the plug and reaching for the discarded towel to wipe his hands clean. “I mean, it’s a shorter drive for me to come here from Harbour than make you slog it all the way out to mine. I was just trying to make things easier on you.”
Evan holds up his hands like he’s trying to brace both himself and Tommy for his next question. “Okay, let me be more direct. Do you still live with your mom?”
That one shocks, a genuine, full belly laugh from him. The concern on Evan’s face is beginning to grow, and Tommy waves him off.
“No, it’s nothing like that. My place is just…a little unfinished at the moment, is all.”
Evan’s apartment was so put together it had honestly taken Tommy aback the first time he’d gotten a good look at it He didn’t know what he’d been expecting but it hadn’t been anything this nice, clean, or stylish, and the next opportunity he’d had to linger and poke around…with fewer distractions…he had quickly reevaluated the person he’d assumed Evan to be based on first impressions alone.
It had been his first in a long chain of lessons he’d learnt to never underestimate Evan Buckley. It had also made him feel slightly…lacking.
“Okay,” Evan says slowly, he’s using that tone of voice that usually means he already has a succession of twenty questions in the barrel and was just barely holding back from pulling the trigger.  “Unfinished, how?”
Tommy scratches at the side of his nose before he can stop himself. A nervous tick. “Well, I bought it with the intention of renovating it myself--my first job was working for a contractor–but I, uh, kept getting a little side tracked.”
Evan shrugs. “That doesn’t sound so bad.”
“You haven’t seen it yet…” Tommy warns.
Evan’s smile slides sideways. “Yeah, and don’t you think it’s a little unfair that Eddie’s seen your place and your boyfriend hasn't?”
He feels silly, but Tommy can’t stop the way his stomach goes hot and squirmy every time Evan says it. Boyfriend–like it’s a pearl cupped lovingly on the bed of his tongue.
It’s Tommy’s turn to roll his eyes. He reaches out, covering Evan’s damp hand with his own and offering him a direct, hot-eyed look. “I’m not trying to impress Eddie.”
His words have their intended effect, Evan grins and ducks his head, cheeks going pleasantly red.
Evan laces their fingers together. “I don’t care how rough it is around the edges, I want to see every part of you,” he says, devastatingly sincere.
Every time Tommy thinks he’s gotten an upper hand on his feelings, Evan throws him for a loop. “Alright, but don’t say I didn’t warn ya.”
Evan’s grin spreads across his face like soft butter on toast. “You got it.”

You and Buck had been arguing for days, each feeling like the other wasn't listening. You didn’t know where all this fighting came from, but you sure do know it hasn’t stopped since then. You both knew something was wrong but couldn't put your finger on it. The tension was palpable, and it was only a matter of time before something gave.
It all came to a head one evening, with you and Buck yelling at each other in the living room of your shared apartment. You moved in a few months back, all cozy and peaceful. Enjoying each other’s company, being able to see one another all day. It felt like a date that never came to an end.
You had been fighting about the little things, but it was clear there was something deeper bubbling beneath the surface.
"Why can't you just listen to me for once, Buck? I feel like I'm talking to a wall!" you yelled, patience running out now.
"I am listening, but you're not hearing me either!" Buck shot back, frustration lacing his words.
The other night, Buck’s messages suddenly stopped and they never come back. You couldn’t sleep during all his shift, not knowing if something had happened to him. Your thoughts were filled with worry and anger as you waited and over checked your dms. Maybe, maybe he texted you but you missed it.
Eventually, a few hours before his shift was about to end, you text Eddie, asking if they were ok. He replied that everything was fine and you didn’t need to worry. But that was something that made you question even more.
“I was waiting for you to text back! Or even a small reminder that you’re ok, you haven’t died. Or to tell me you’re on your way to a call and you can’t talk! Is it that hard?” you
“I was on a call, then I went to bed! It just slipped my mind!” he yelled back at that point.
You couldn’t believe his words. It slipped his mind. Talking to his lover slipped his mind. Reassuring them he’s alive slipped his mind. Maybe you were asking too much.
“Okay, fine!” you gave up. You gather a few things from the apartment, stuffing them in your bag as Buck watched your every step, his eyes filled now with worry less than anger.
“Wha-What are you doing?” your boyfriend placed his hand on top of yours, stopping you from circling around.
“We should take a break. I’ll spend the night at May’s and we'll see after that.” you were just texting May as his hand dropped, now resting on the kitchen counter. His eyes show the pain and fear that’s bubbling inside, and, maybe, because you were hurt as well, you chose to ignore it.
Your chest aches and your head was spinning trying to keep inside the feelings. You didn’t want to show him you were hurting just as much, he wouldn’t care anyways. It is a painful decision, but you need some time to clear your head and you both knew that.
Buck was afraid he’s being left behind again. Forgotten by the person he’s loving the most. More that he loved Abby. More than he loved Ally. And even more than he loved Taylor. And that’s something. But he gulped the lump in his throat and nodded.
“Yeah, maybe that’s best.”
“Take care of you, Buck!” and with those words, you shut the door behind, leaving Buck all alone in his apartment.
One night turned into days and then into a week, and Buck found himself missing you more than he ever thought possible. He texted you every single day, babbling about every little thing that happened in his life.
//
“I think it’s over. Uh, me and Y/n.” Buck admitted between the siren’s wiling.
“We’re just having a little girl’s week. It’s been ages since we had a proper hangout. We just catching up.” Hen said, watching Buck swallow the lump in his throat. “How is that code for it’s over ?”
“Well, what’s past is prologue, right?” Buck sighs, “And, based on my past, Y/n and I have reached the point in a relationship where the woman flees.”
“Women flee you? Routinely?” Ravi asks, surprisingly turning his head in Buck’s direction.
“Starts out small. Uh, she's-she's canceling plans. She's got to work. She needs to wash her hair or do her laundry, and before you know it, poof. Dropping them off at the airport and never seeing them again.” your boyfriend explained, hoping his words won’t coincide with the reality.
“Okay, Buck, you're being a little too Buck about this. “ Hen shake her hands, waving off Buck’s worries.
“A little? When was the last time a woman told you she had to go home to wash her hair? 1952?” Eddie chuckles from his seat.
“Listen, Y/n is not Abby or Ally or Taylor. It doesn't even rhyme. I mean, that's a good sign, right?” Hen asks.
“The thing is... she’s been living with me for a few months now. And it’s been great and I do think I really really love her and I don’t want to lose her. Not her-“ Buck let out from his mouth some words he never had the chance to say to you. Well, he had the chance, millions of times, but never seemed the right time.
“Why does this keep happening to you?” Bobby turned his head to watch Buck as the truck rolled down the streets.
“Well, to be honest, I think...”
“No. I'm gonna tell you why.” Cap stopped him before he could explain. “Because you don't talk to the women you're dating. You just go with the flow and find yourself in a relationship with no idea how you got there or what to do when things start to go wrong.”
“Yeah. Who does that?” Eddie sarcastically laughed.
“My point is, breaking up is not inevitable. You can turn it around. You just have to make the effort. Talk to Y/n. Tell her how you're feeling. Find ways to reconnect.”
And that was the moment Buck realised he gotta do something. He’s never done anything to stop the women from his life leave. He never fought. It was their decision to leave and he never said a word. It wasn’t like he’ll force you to stay with him. It was more like showing you he wants you to stay by his side. He needs you to stay by his side.
So, he spent all night planning a grand gesture. He always wanted to do that, but he never felt like it was the perfect moment. Until now.
The day after his shift ended, he showed up on May’s doorstep. He had a little hint you’ve been crashing on her couch all week, and after a few texts exchanged with May, she tricked you into putting some nice clothes on and let her do your makeup. But she never said why.
The door bell rang, sending shivers down your spine. “Please answer that for me!” Athena’s daughter shouted from the bathroom, making you roll your eyes. What’s she up to?
When you saw Buck standing in the doorway with a beautiful bouquet with your favourite flowers gathered in his hands, your heart melted. He was the last person you’d expect to see. You didn’t think Buck would show up; he always gives you time to think and heal until you’re ready to go back to him. That’s how it’s always been.
"I'm sorry," Buck said, taking your hand in his. "I know we've been fighting a lot lately, but I want to make it work."
“I know, Buck. I want to make it work too.”
your eyes softened, and you could see the sincerity in his words.
"You trust me?" Buck whispered.
“Yeah?” your response was more a question than an affirmation when you saw him pulling out a scarf. He motioned and you turn around, letting him cover your eyes. He led you outside, hearing a car door open you realised he was taking you somewhere.
“Where are we going?” you broke the silence a while after the car was rolling down the streets of LA. Hoping it was on the streets of LA.
“You said you trust me!” he chucked, turning right and left on the roads, as he entered the off-roads. “It’s a surprise, Y/n!”
When the car finally stopped and he helped you out and took off the blindfold, leaving you speechless. There was this giant hot air balloon, ready for you to wonder above Los Angles.
“Come on!” he smiled at your reaction, all you can do was nod and return his smile, feeling the anger and tension slowly dissipate in the air.
“I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. I should’ve texted you back. In my job there’s no such thing as ignoring a text. I did had the time to text you back, but I was stubborn. I don’t know why.” finally opening up to each other and sharing your fears and concerns after weeks of constant fighting and silence. It wasn't an easy conversation, but it was necessary.
“I want you to stay by my side. I need you. And I don’t want to give up on you. On us.”
“I’m not leaving you, Buckaroo. I promise!” you extended your pinky and waited for Buck to intervene with his.
“I love you!” he suddenly spoke, his words echoing through your mind. You knew he loves you, you’ve known for a while. His actions spoke louder than his words, but that night you decided to ignore everything your heart’s been telling you.
“I love you, Buck!” he smiled softly as he grabbed your waist and pulled you closer, sealing your lips together in desire, love, warmth and longing.
By the end of it, you both knew you wanted to be together and were willing to work on your relationship.
As the sun began to set, Buck held you close, refusing to ever let you go again. And you both knew you were going to be okay. It was the first step in a long journey, but you were in it together.

Dear Buck oh its not a letter
Buck
Evan Buckley (?)
From the day we met, I
I take thee to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part except I don’t want to stop loving you when either of us die. I don’t want to part. Till the glaciers have melted and the oceans have dried up, till Mount Whitney (the tallest mountain in California, I looked it up) is eroded to a molehill, till the heat death of the universe do us part. Maybe that will be enough time
I keep thinking about that time you wore those fucking socks to work and Bobby and everyone were trying to really gently asses if you were having a breakdown because we just see AND YOU’RE GOING TO DIE on your ankle and then you laughed and pulled up your pants and it said “GET LOST IN NATURE AND YOU’RE GOING TO DIE” which like I still think is kind of a fucked up thing to put on a sock but you just did one of your beautiful sunshine grins (we weren’t even together but god I still got light headed looking at you) and were like “I thought it would be neat to remind people the importance of safety in nature” and I was kind of teasing and annoyed and laughed about it and that was like three years ago Buck and I still feel guilty about it because if you were going through some kind of crisis I don’t ever want to be annoyed and laugh about it, I want to be there for you no matter what and I hope I’ve proven that to you over the years, that I don’t just love you on easy days, I love you every single day all the time even when everything’s fucked even if I can’t write wedding vows to save my life christ this is terrible
I love your nose and your birthmark and your eyebrows and your hair and your shoulders and the bends of your elbows, and your wrists and hands, and I love your nipples and hip bones and cock and ass and knees and your shin, I love the scars on your shin, I love every scar you have because none of them killed you
How about
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
Or
But this was a rich house, and clever too.
After salmon and salads,
mangoes for everyone appeared on blue plates,
each one cut in half and scored
and shoved forward from its rind, like an orange flower,
cubist and juicy.
When I began to eat
things happened.
Or
your head on the pillow,
your hands floating
in the light, in my light,
over my earth.
It was beautiful to live
when you lived
The world is bluer and of the earth
at night, when I sleep
enormous, within your small hands.
Before the ceremony I told Shannon “It’s going to be okay” and in the moment I believed it because I had her and I was scared but she was my best friend and up there in front of her parents and mine I said the regular vows but I think that first one was what counted even if it didn’t end up being true. Maybe I’ve been telling you my vows for years. You can have my back any day. There’s no one on earth I trust with my son - with our son - more than you. Every time I tell you I love you, isn’t that a promise?
I’ve been happy before in my life, despite everything I don’t think I was an unhappy man, not always, only sometimes, but you make me happier than I thought was possible. That kind of feeling when you laugh too hard and you’re not getting enough oxygen to your brain. Isn’t that romantic, you give me hypoxia
Here’s the thing you know I’m going to get up there and just start crying immediately so I don’t know why I’m trying so hard to find words I won’t even be able to get out
No hi this is me two hours later of course this is important you’re important you knowing how much I love you is so important to me and I will stand up there blubbering at you for hours if that’s what it takes
I trust you. I love you. I am happy with you. I want to wake up beside you always, Buck I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than you next to me first thing in the morning (or night or afternoon or whenever we’ve finished sleeping), touching your warm body with your lungs breathing and your heart beating and the solidity of you feels like a miracle
I’ll buy you socks so your feet don’t get cold and I’ll bring you fruit because you like to eat sweet things and wherever I live will be your home and I’ll be by your side as long as you do me the honor of wanting me there and everything I have and am is yours and I

[Image ID: 10 GIFs of Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz from 9-1-1, overlaid with lyrics from Taylor Swift's Timeless. GIF 1: A painting and an open book on a black wooden table. The painting has an ornate gold frame. Inside the painting is a GIF of Buck hanging from the extended ladder of the ladder truck after he is struck by lightning. Partially on top of the painting, a book lies open with a GIF on either page, of Buck and Eddie respectively facing each other after Eddie is shot. The lyrics are stylised as text in the book, reading 'I came upon a book covered in cobwebs / story of a romance torn apart by fate.' GIF 2: Two GIFs overlaid on top of each other. The first GIF shows Buck laying on the road staring at a fallen Eddie after Eddie is shot. The second shows Eddie yelling Buck's name as he rushes to get to Buck after Buck falls from the ladder truck. Both GIFs are blurred. The lyrics are stylised in old gothic font, reading 'somehow I know that you and I would've found each other / and I'd die for you in the same way.' GIF 3: Eddie and Buck are in full turnout gear. Eddie is walking as the fire truck drives alongside him, with Buck hanging off of it. The GIF is tinted orange. The text reads 'if I first saw your face / on a crowded street in 1944.' GIF 4: Two GIFs overlaid on top of each other. The first GIF shows Buck rushing out of Maddie's hospital after he gets her letter telling him that she can't run away with him. This GIF is black and white. The second shows Eddie in his army uniform getting on a helicopter. The text reads 'and you were headed off to fight in the war / you still would've been mine.' GIF 5: Two GIFs overlaid on top of each other. The first GIF shows Buck as a bartender in Peru, listening to Connor tell him about LA. The second shows Eddie at his parents' house, listening as they tell him that they think Chirstopher should live with them. The text reads 'cause I belive that we were supposed to find this / even in a different life / you still would've been mine / we would've been timeless.' GIF 6: The GIF has a crack down the middle. On the left of the crack, Buck begs his parents to love him despite him and Maddie not being perfect kids. On the right, Eddie breaks down after he learns that all his teammates from the army are dead. The GIF slowly transitions from colour to black and white. The text is aligned along the crack, reading 'time breaks down your mind and body / don't you let it touch your soul.' GIF 7: Two GIFs overlaid on top of each other. The first GIF shows Buck turning around in the firehouse to see Eddie for the first time. The second shows Eddie grinning as he meets the team for the first time. The GIF has a papery texture to it. The text reads 'it was like an age old classic / the first time that you saw me.' GIF 8: A piece of parchment paper. In a large square on the left side, Buck and Eddie shake hands after working together for the first time. On the right side, the lyrics are stylised like text in a book, reading 'the story started when you said hello.' GIF 9: Two GIFs overlaid on top of each other, of Eddie and Buck covertly meeting each other's eyes in the middle of the firehouse. Eddie is in black and white while Buck is in colour. The text reads 'in a crowded room a few short years ago / sometimes there's no proof you just know.' GIF 10: A pocket watch on the screen. Inside the pocket watch, a montage of Buck and Eddie through the years cycles repeatedly. The hour and minute hand of the pocket watch rotate clockwise. In the background, behind the pocket watch, the same series of GIFs is enlarged and blurred. Around the watch, stylised in old gothic font, the text reads 'you're always gonna be mine / we're gonna be timeless.' /end ID]

wip wednesday
i was tagged by @ayotofu and @inell !! currently i am working on a crossover so um. apologies to my beloveds who don't care about either stranger things or 911. because this is both. also i am tagging my beloved sarah @steveharrington xxxx mwah love you babes
“Robin,” Steve says, “You did not.”
“Just drive,” Robin hisses, “Uncle Philip’s a light sleeper.”
“I’m not gonna—”
“Steve.”
“I hate you,” Steve says, shifting the car into drive. “I hate you, I hate you, oh my God, we’re gonna go to prison and we don’t even have a car seat.”
“Just don’t crash!”
“Oh my god,” Steve says, creeping slowly down the quiet suburban street so as not to wake anybody. “That is not a birthday present.”
“He’s young enough that we can say he’s mine,” Robin says, “I’m weird, I had a home birth because I don’t trust hospitals—”
“You’re a hypochondriac, you’re always going to hospitals.”
“Okay, then it was a really fast labor and I had him in the bathroom and we’re broke so we figured we’d save ourselves the bill since I felt fine.”
“You are clinically insane.”
“Well, guess who’s the father?”
“Jesus Christ,” Steve moans.
Little Evan Buckley, only eight weeks old, sleeps soundly in Robin’s arms.
“We’re gonna have to move,” Steve says. “Nobody would believe that you’ve been pregnant this whole time. Hell, nobody in Hawkins would even believe that we’d slept together!”
“Shit,” Robin says.
“What even happened in there?”
“She begged me, Steve! Maddie’s the only one who’s been taking care of him since he was born, and she said that Margaret wanted to drop him at a fire station!”
“And you thought we were the better alternative!?”
“Sorry if I don’t trust the government with helpless little children!”
Steve doesn’t have anything to say to that. It’s, unfortunately, kind of a reasonable point. He knows that isn’t how El was taken, that her mother was already involved in experiments before her birth, but he also knows that Benny’s is an abandoned party spot now because the guy called social services and got a bullet to the skull for it.
“We’re gonna have to change his name,” Steve says, “He can’t just run around as Evan Buckley.”
“Evan Harrington?”
Steve snorts. “No way you’d have a baby and just give it the man’s name.”
“Damn it, you’re right. So we’re keeping Buckley.”
“Keeping Buckley,” Steve confirms. “Do we have to act, like… a couple?”
“Ew,” Robin says. “Uh, maybe it was a one-time thing?”
“We got super drunk,” Steve says.
“Blackout drunk,” Robin adds.
“Perfect. So, we’re moving somewhere… not Hawkins, we had a home birth, and little baby Buckley’s mommy and daddy are just friends. He still needs a name.”

Falling in love with his Baby Blues
I knew that he had my heart from the minute that I laid eyes on those baby blue eyes of his. Set behind light blonde lashes and above full lips, I knew he had me from that first look. Evan Buckley, resident heartthrob of Engine 118 of the LAFD. He strolls over to me from beside the engine, towering over me and gently lets his hand creep behind my hair and to the back of my neck, his fingertips soft against my skin. His other hand slides up to my cheek and with a gentle caress of his thumb my heart jumps out of my chest. I catch another look at those devastatingly beautiful blue eyes and within seconds, his eyes close and those soft full lips are on mine, moving in perfect sync as my arms go to wrap around his waist and up to his neck. He pushes me gently into the lockers in the locker room and keeps moving our bodies together. It is pure bliss as he picks me up and sits down on the bench, my legs on either side as the kiss intensifies. His eyes open breaking our kiss and I brush my fingertips over the two small reddish dots on his right eye, etching every detail of his face into my memory. His hand reaches up to brush my hair away from my own face, gazing lovingly into my green eyes, with those same soft beautiful eyes I first gazed into the day we met. God I'm so lucky to love him.

put your hand in mine (you know that i want to be with you all the time) by prettyboybuckley
17.2k | 3/3 | Mature | Chose Not To Warn | Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz
Summary:
"Hey," Eddie mutters when he picks up, gathering the covers back up from where he'd thrown them off to grab his phone. "How's PA?" Buck doesn't say anything at first, which in itself is a very clear answer. Eddie wishes he could be there right now to comfort him. "Same as always, really. My mom acts like she's concerned about my dangerous job, and my dad is unreasonable and argues about everything. I miss you." He throws in the last part as if it's something casual to say, and maybe it is to him, but either way, it makes Eddie feel better about feeling the same. "I miss you, too." OR: Eddie side of things as they basically go on a double date, he comes out to Bobby and Christopher, and they take their next step in the dynamic - oh, and he really, really misses Buck while he's on a trip to Hershey with Maddie and Chim

Swings Both Ways - Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Evan Buckley’s POV
Everyone else’s partners and family has arrived, Y/N’s late. He’s never late, and he always texts, he always keeps me in the loop.
I don’t even realise I’m pacing until a soft and familiar voice calls, “Bucky, you’re going to burn a hole through the floor with all that pacing.”
Standing at the top of the stairs is Y/N, my famous pink sweater slipping down one of his shoulders and his skinny ripped jeans shaping him hips and ass perfectly. His freckles and sunflower eyes are illuminated by the fairy lights May and Bobby hung around the loft area. Overall, he just looks soft.
“What happened? You didn’t call or text, I was worried-“ I can’t help myself rushing over, holding his face in my hands and checking him over for any injuries glad to find none.
“The animal clinic got backed up and my phone was dead.” He tells me, pulling me into a reassuring hug, “A dog decided to eat a $170.”
“Did you get to keep the money?” Chimney pipes up reminding us that everyone has been watching the whole thing. Chimney’s question causes a bright laugh to bubble up and that contagious smile burst across Peter’s face.
“I didn’t want to, that dog had eaten some things.” He tells Chim, squeezing my hand that is still holding him.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Hen, and who might you be?” Hen pulls Y/N away from me and towards everyone else.
“Y/N, Y/N Y/L/N.” He introduces himself to everyone and there’s a chorus of introductions and I’m also being sucked into the celebrations, keeping an eye on Y/N as sometimes he struggles with too many people at once.
It’s a few hours before Y/N catches my gaze and quickly taps his nose twice which is a code we have for when Y/N needs a quick social break. I excuse myself from Eddie and Christopher, making my way across the loft to where Y/N is sat with Bobby and Athena
“You mind if I steal Y/N to show him the firetruck?” I squeeze in and relief washes over Peter’s face before he straightens it out.
“No hanky panky remember.” Bobby warns with a friendly nod to which I just nod back, Peter laughing nervously but takes my outstretched hand.
Y/N smiles softly at me once I’ve shut the firetruck door, kissing my hand and melting my heart even more, “Come here, Sweetheart,” I pull him to me and finally... finally, kiss him. He’s right here, in my arms, all soft curves and small sounds. His hands gripping my arms like a lifeline as his lips move against mine.
“You know that they know right?” Y/N asks quietly, eyes solely fixed on the sweater paws he’s made with my sweater. The nervousness seeping into his voice makes me equally as worried because no way do I want to make him more anxious than he usually is.
“Do you mind that?” I’m cautious and it makes Y/N look up, meeting my gaze.
“Oh Bucky of course it’s okay, it means I get to kiss you whenever I want now.” He giggles, pulling me into another kiss and god I love this man. I don’t think when I pull him onto my lap, legs either side of me and chest pressed to mine. My hands keep a firm grip on his hips, wanting to just ravish him right here and right now but Y/N... he’s not exactly quiet so we wouldn’t be able to be sneaky. I mean we’ve never actually had sex yet but we’ve done other stuff and oh god, the way Y/N whimpers in my mouth and pressed his hip down agains mine makes me almost throw caution to the wind but then I hear it.
I sigh as I pull away from Y/N, calling out, “Maddie Margaret Buckley, stop eavesdropping!” Y/N buries is face in my shirt in embarrassment at this which just makes me hold him tighter because oh my god he’s so cute and I love him.
Before I mull over the fact I really do love him the door gets opened and Maddie practically squeals, yelling to everyone, “I TOLD YOU SO!” and as if by punishment the alarm goes off requesting all units. The sound makes Y/N cry out in fear and instinctively I cover his ears with my hands.
“Y/N baby, I’m going to have to leave you with Maddie and Christopher okay?” I whisper to him as I quickly carry him back up to the loft, Maddie following, and sitting him next to Christopher.
“Now Christopher, I have a very important job for you,” Eddie tells his son, “You, along with Maddie and May and everyone here are going to look after Y/N.”
“Okay!” Christopher grins, “Look after Uncle Buck’s boyfriend.”

Evan Buckley Masterlist
Part 1
Part 3
Summary: Now that Minnie has started referring to Evan as her dad, he has officially adopted her. And he turns up to protect them both when a situation happens in a store.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
With her head tilted back against the cushion and one arm behind her head, (Y/n) looked across at Evan and smiled as she followed his movements.
She watched him closely as he rounded the coffee table and moved towards the sofa she was laid on.
Her initial thought was that he would do what he always did when he sat with her like this. She thought he would lift her legs and sit next to her and let her legs rest over his thighs, something he did often when they sat together. But instead, Evan grinned from ear to ear and crawled on top of her.
He pinned his elbows either side of her chest and wriggled until he was comfortably nestled between her legs.
Most of his weight was balanced between his hips and his elbows, making sure he wasn't letting his full weight rest on (Y/n). He could easily crush her beneath his body weight if he relaxed on her.
His hands held her sides and his chin perched on her left shoulder, staring up at her intently with those darkened eyes that looked like they had captured droplets of the ocean within them.
"Hi," (Y/n) spoke softly while she lifted an arm to card her fingers through Evan's curls that seemed to be getting longer and longer each day. She felt the way he shivered over her when her nails scratched against his scalp and it made her smile widen into a smirk.
Her other arm looped around the back of Evan's shoulders and she began smoothing her fingertips up and down his back in a slow rhythm that had him shivering on top of her. She liked the feeling of his cheek resting on her shoulder and she tilted her head at an angle so she could kiss his temple.
"Hey. You okay, how's bubba?"
When Evan shifted his left hand down to press his palm against the side of her stomach, (Y/n) pecked his temple again.
A shiver rocked down her spine at the feeling of his unnaturally cold hand slithering beneath her shirt to tickle across her stomach. His fingertips feathered along her skin and sent goosebumps in his wake over her flushed skin that felt like fire compared to his iced hands.
"We're good."
A hum vibrated against the back of Evan's throat as he continued to dance his fingers along her bump that was moulded up against his abdomen. He liked feeling her bump pressing up against him, as if the baby was trying to make sure they didn't forget about them. Evan could just see it, in a year or two when their boy or girl was here, they would be doing the exact same as Minnie always did whenever she saw them having an intimate moment together.
The five year old always got herself in the way, attaching herself to Evan's legs or holding her arms out to him, demanding he kiss her instead of her mum. And Evan knew their baby was going to be the exact same, he could sense it.
Minnie somehow knew that Evan was a sucker for her little smile. It was as if she sensed that Evan strived to make sure she didn't have to fight for attention the way he did when he was young.
He wanted to make sure that his kids never had to bed to be seen or heard or noticed. They wouldn't have to fight for the love that was supposed to be unconditional; not like Evan had.
He wouldn't allow them to have the same experiences he did growing up.
And now that Evan had adopted Minnie as his own, he was more desperate than ever to show her he loved her and he wasn't going to let her feel left out, not for anything in the world.
"Hi bubba," His voice tickled the side of (Y/n)'s stomach when he tilted his head down to kiss her bump.
Although he didn't know how well everything was going to go if he and (Y/n) ended up having a baby girl. They were keeping the gender a secret, but the longer they left it, the more uneasy Minnie was becoming. She was fully evolved in telling every person she met that Evan was her dad. They had all moved into a big house together, Evan took her to school and tucked her in bed and read her stories. He kissed her cuts and bruises if she fell and they had movie nights together.
She was the happiest she had ever been now she could call Evan her dad and hear him say she was his daughter. And when he told her he loved her, she always seemed to melt into a puddle.
If (Y/n) and Evan ended up having a baby girl, they had a horrid feeling that Minnie wouldn't be happy.
She had been very eager to be a big sister once they told her the news, but she had it in her head that the baby would be a boy because 'she was daddy's only girl'. Or his princess as she had started to say. Having a sister might make Minnie jealous or think she would have to fight for Evan's attention. And Evan prayed if it was a girl that Minnie wouldn't think he was going to replace her. That would never be the case.
(Y/n) stopped carding her fingers through Evan's hair and draped her arm around the back of his neck instead when he lifted his head. She could feel the end of his nose drag across her skin and up the side of her neck. He lifted his head until his chin feathered across her collar bone and had her shivering beneath him once again.
Each time she swallowed or took a sharp breath, Evan felt the movement in her throat and he grinned against her neck. His teeth scratched along her skin and he bit down just enough to make a sharp scratch burn over (Y/n)'s neck which made her breaths become shallow.
(Y/n) tilted her head back, arching her neck out into Evan's touches and tensing delightfully when he bit down on her skin. Not hard enough to leave a mark or a bruise, but enough to create a sharp sting. His teeth finally released her neck only to be replaced with his tongue which glided across the tender spot, soothing the stinging sensation he left in his wake.
His wet lips formed into a pout and he pressed open-mouthed kisses up and down her neck. He continued his administrations, kissing up and down her jugular until (Y/n)'s arm left his back and she moved her hand down to hold his wrist instead.
"Someone's awake," (Y/n) whispered against the top of his head while she shifted Evan's hand down to where the baby was kicking.
Her fingers stayed curled around Evan's wrist while his palm stayed perfectly still against her stomach, waiting to feel any movement that he could. Sometimes it was as if Evan didn't truly believe this was happening and he needed to feel the baby kicking or moving or see the sonogram before his eyes again to reassure himself that this was real.
When Evan lifted his head from her shoulder and grinned down at her with those ruby red lips and such a feverish look in his eyes, (Y/n)'s heart could of exploded on the spot.
She tilted her head up and captured his lips in a kiss. He dragged his tongue across her lips so he could bare his teeth down on her lower lip, sharp enough to make a scratch and draw a droplet of blood which his tongue lapped up.
The touch was craving and hungry and deep. All until Evan's phone started to buzz in his back pocket.
(Y/n) shifted her hands around to cup his neck as he hovered above her. She brushed her thumbs across his cheeks and smiled so sweetly Evan couldn't believe she was smiling like that at him. For him.
He tried to capture another kiss from her lips, but (Y/n) tilted her head back and pecked the tip of his nose instead.
"Don't you need to answer that?" (Y/n) panted, her voice barely more than a distant sound carried away on the wind.
"It's not important, they can call back."
(Y/n) grinned and rolled her eyes before Evan was dipping his head back down, nudging his nose against hers to take ownership of her lips. The feeling was overpowering and when his tongue darted across her lips and stole the air from her lungs, (Y/n) almost forgot what she'd asked him.
The sudden buzzing noise managed to filter through her ears a few seconds later while she parted her lips against Evan's, desperately trying to take in a breath before he devoured her lips again.
While he concentrated on bruising her lips, (Y/n) slid her hand down towards his trousers. Her hand swatted against his bum to wind him up before she dipped her fingers into his pocket and pulled out his phone. It could be something important. It could be Eddie needing something or Chris wanting to talk to him. It could be anyone from the station or it could be Maddie, she knew if she had to go to work (Y/n) and Evan were more than happy to take Jee-Yun for them and look after their niece.
She held the phone beside her head until Evan opened his eyes, his lips still barely touching (Y/n)'s while he panted into her mouth and looked at the caller ID.
It was Bobby.
"Answer it," She mused against his lips, scraping her teeth against his lip while Evan kept his left hand on her stomach and his right hand begrudgingly took the phone.
Evan flopped his head down into the crook of (Y/n)'s neck, attaching his lips to her shoulder while he closed his eyes and gained his breath back.
"Hey Bobby, everything okay?"
"Hi Buck… I'm sorry to call but Connor has gone home sick and now Chimney's called in. I'm down two for the afternoon shift and you're on call. Can you come in?"
Evan tilted his head forward into the crook of (Y/n)'s neck, smothering a groan when Bobby's words sunk in. It was sweet of Bobby to actually ask if Evan could come in rather than just say he was on call and didn't have a choice in this. Giving Evan the preconception of having a choice would make him feel a little better at the prospect of having to go back to work on his day off.
But it was what he got paid for. Being on call meant getting an extra lump sum payment for the week for being on standby. No drinking alcohol, no planning to go to parties or social events and being in town and ready in case something came up and he was needed on shift. And it was extra pay any shift he had to pick up while on call too.
"Yeah, yeah I'll come in. Give me half an hour and I'll be there."
"Thank you, see you soon."
When Evan lifted his head and muttered a quiet "I gotta go," against (Y/n)'s lips, she grinned softly and pecked his lips.
"I heard." She let her hands fall down to Evan's shoulders, watching intently as he made no move to get off her and go get ready. He seemed to become stuck in place between her thighs while both his hands moved down to grip her hips tightly.
"Shit, we were gonna go shopping. Can we postpone for tomorrow?"
"Me and Minnie can go do it today, it's okay."
(Y/n) pressed her hands down to the sofa when Evan finally pushed up off her and sank back on his heels, kneeling between her thighs on the sofa. The way he tilted his head to the side and his eyes creased asked a silent question. He would happily take her shopping tomorrow. The look in his eyes told her she didn't have to go today if she didn't want to.
It was usual for them to go shopping together on their days off, more specifically when Evan had days off as his schedule was rather complicated and hectic.
(Y/n) didn't like going out alone. After an abusive relationship with her ex, (Y/n) felt safer if she went out with someone, whether that was to go shopping or to get herself out of the house or to appointments. Being alone made her self conscious and uneasy.
It had been hard enough before she met Evan to take Minnie to nursery or to appointments on her own. She often ended up asking her mum or a friend to accompany her and Minnie, being out with someone else felt safer than being alone.
And (Y/n) had been more than relieved when she got with Evan that he didn't mind. He didn't think she was clingy or being stupid and he didn't tell her to toughen up or stop being so frightened. If she wanted to wait for him to join her, he would go with her. He took her to any and all appointments, they went shopping together and Evan made it his personal mission to pick up Minnie from school because the pair of them loved it so much.
They had their own home now, the three of them all together, with a new addition on the way.
"Baby, I'll go, I'll be fine." She pushed up so she was sitting in front of him and her fingers danced along his jaw, creating pins and needles in her wake. Leaning forward, she attached her lips to the side of Evan's jaw, earning a groan that caused him to tilt his head back towards the ceiling.
(Y/n) wasn't doing too much on her own at the moment, she was still panicked and uneasy now she was pregnant. But she could handle doing the shopping, they didn't need a lot anyway. If it was a full blown food shop and cleaning shop for the house, (Y/n) would have waited. But she would rather go out now and get what they needed so tomorrow, she could spend the whole day with Evan and he could take it easy after what she reckoned would be a long cover shift.
"You go to work, me, Minnie and bubba will go shopping. Go write me a list of what you want before you go."
It was no secret that Evan was taking after Bobby in the kitchen. He was starting to enjoy cooking almost as much as Bobby did and therefore, Evan had become a chef on his days off. (Y/n) knew he had short shifts next week and if there was anything he wanted or needed for cooking, she would go get it today for him.
Shopping wasn't so bad. (Y/n) had a list and she would be in and out of the shops within an hour if she was lucky.
She could do this on her own. It would do her some good.
Her stomach fluttered with adrenaline at the smile which lit up Evan's face. He leaned forward, stealing a lazy kiss from her lips and pressing one to the top of her bump before he clambered off the sofa and headed into the hall.
"Mouse, you coming down? I gotta go to work baby." He leaned over the bannister to call upstairs since he knew Minnie was up there, doing whatever it was that held her interest this morning. It would either be the dolls house she was playing with or the new toy ambulance she was fascinated with this week.
Evan waltzed into the kitchen and started to write a few things down on the notepad for what they needed from shopping. And his lips curved up into a grin when he heard Minnie bounding down the stairs like a boulder.
He twisted his head to the left, letting a smile win out across his face when Minnie bounded over to him with her arms out.
"I thought we were shopping?" She made grabbing hands up at him until Evan leaned down and scooped her up in his arms, as always.
"I'm needed at work today, but you and mum are gonna go shopping." He bounced Minnie on his hip while he arched forward and wrote down the last few things they needed on the list.
"And baby?"
The corners of Evan's eyes creased as he let out a chuckle and nodded. "Yep, baby too. You gonna be good for me while I'm gone?"
Minnie nodded eagerly, grinning to herself when Evan mumbled "That's my girl," before she cupped his face in her small hands, a silent implication that she was waiting for a kiss.
"When's he gonna be here, daddy? The baby?"
"Not for another three or four months, little mouse. We have to wait a while." Evan was starting to feel as eager as Minnie for the baby to arrive, and they were only twenty weeks along.
He pressed a tender kiss to her temple before he eased her down to her feet and handed her the shopping list, knowing she would keep it safe like it was a prized piece of gold paper. He didn't dare correct her and admit that the baby might be a girl. The last time Evan tried to have that conversation with her, Minnie got very upset and Evan saw no need to have that talk today.
***
(Y/n) peered down at the shopping list, concentration written across her face as she tried to decipher the words Evan had scribbled down in haste before he left earlier.
Usually he had lovely handwriting, neat and cursive. But when he was jotting down notes or writing in a hurry, his words slanted to the right and his loops became bigger and the words squashed and scribbled too close together.
With a sigh, (Y/n) put the list back in her bag and leaned forward, folding her arms over the trolley to arch her lower back out. Leaning over like this felt better, it felt like the baby was more at ease since (Y/n) constantly felt like she was being weighed forward. It relieved the tension in her spine if she stooped over every now and then.
She was ready to go home. The store was crowded and (Y/n) had become suddenly tired and sluggish before she even got in the shop. Without Evan here with her (Y/n) could feel her panic rising and her determination dwindling.
She didn't like being out on her own.
A soft smile pulled at her lips when she felt Minnie gently patting her shoulder like she was trying to comfort her. Lifting her head, (Y/n) pressed a kiss to her daughter's arm and pushed up to stand straight again. They had almost got everything on the list, it felt about time to cut this trip short and head back home.
Minnie wouldn't care. The five year old had found a children's magazine that was all about animals. It had pictures to colour in, photos, games and lots of stickers. She was holding it close to her chest, marvelling at the front cover every now and then. But she was determined not to do any of the activities yet, not without Evan.
She knew he was very big into documentaries, especially ones about animals and as soon as she saw the magazine, she wanted it so she and Evan could do it together.
"Let's get daddy some popcorn, then we can go."
Minnie nodded and darted her head around the shop as they moved into the next aisle. They both knew what she was going to do. She would grab the brand of popcorn she preferred because then Evan wouldn't have a choice but to share it with her. It was a good job he didn't care what brand or flavour he had.
(Y/n) began tapping the list against the trolley handle and hummed as she made her way down the aisle, seemingly in a world of her own. But she came to an abrupt stop when her eyes glanced up ahead near the crisps.
Oh no.
A subtle tremble set in her bones and her fingers tightened around the handle bar as she felt her lungs seizing up.
Mark.
Her ex. The mad man she had successfully avoided since she left him five and a half years ago. (Y/n) had laid her eyes on him only a small handful of times, and none of those times had been close enough for Mark to see or approach her.
She had never been stuck in the same shop as him before, in such close proximity.
When (Y/n) found out she was pregnant, she packed up her things and went to stay with her sister until she could get her own place. She left before Mark found out about Minnie. She couldn't have him knowing they had a child together, it would be a tie connecting her to him forever. He would never let (Y/n) go if he knew and he would ruin Minnie's life. She didn't deserve that. It was why (Y/n) hadn't put a name down under father's name on the birth certificate, that way Mark had no rights and no way to crawl back into her life.
Evan had adopted her. He was her dad now, it was binding, it was legal and he loved the bones of her.
Why had he gone into work today? Why couldn't Evan have been here with her? (Y/n) could have told him who Mark was and they could have made a quick exit. Evan was tall and bulky enough to hide (Y/n) behind him like a shield.
"Daddy likes that one."
Minnie's voice broke (Y/n) out of her rambling thoughts and she looked down to see Minnie stretching across for a large bag of salted popcorn in the signature blue packet that Minnie loved so much.
"Let's go." She tried to find her footing enough to spin the trolley around, she couldn't walk ahead and bypass Mark, it was too risky. Too dangerous.
"(Y/n)?"
That voice had (Y/n)'s throat tightening and made the baby shift and weigh her down towards the floor. Her feet felt like they were stuck in tar, becoming glued to the floor and each step was harder to take than the last. Her fight or flight had always been broken, (Y/n) was never good at fighting and her flight response was wanting to sit on the floor and hide.
Flight was impossible when her body always became sluggish and the overwhelming panic slowed her down too much to escape.
But she tried. She tried to move, for Minnie, for the baby. She had to keep them both safe, they were her priority.
Her hands trembled and the plastic handle started to become slick with sweat that was drenching her palms and lathering over every inch of her skin. She could feel tears welling in her eyes and when Minnie patted her arm, it took all of (Y/n)'s strength not to whimper.
"Mummy okay?" The five year old tried to lean to look around her mum, wondering who was calling out to them when she could hear pounding footsteps trying to catch them up.
But Minnie looked back up at her mum when (Y/n) leaned in close with an expression she had never seen before.
"Don't look, Minnie don't try and speak to him, that's a bad man. We stay away from bad people, don't we?"
The little girl visibly shivered and shrank back in her seat at the front of the trolley, but she nodded. It was drilled into her mind about strangers. She didn't talk or approach strangers if her parents weren't with her. She didn't let strangers try and talk to her or go places with her under any circumstance. And if she was told someone was a bad person, she had to stay away and stick with whatever adult she was around.
"(Y/n). Hey, look at me when I'm talking to you." The way he rose his voice made (Y/n) shiver and she couldn't find the ability to breathe when she felt him rushing up behind her.
She wasn't going to get very far with the trolley.
Acting on reflex, (Y/n) spun the trolley round so sharply the wheels screeched against the polished floor and created a black skid against the white and beige tiles. She pushed the end of the trolley harshly, almost ramming it into Mark's legs to keep him at bay, to keep something between them for safety.
And she leaned over and hoisted Minnie up out of the trolley, sitting her high up on her waist so her legs hooked over her bump. She knew Evan wouldn't be pleased if he saw her sitting Minnie on her bump like this, but she didn't have much of a choice. She had to keep their daughter in her arms in case she had to run and she couldn't risk Minnie getting separated from her.
She felt Minnie's chin digging roughly into her shoulder and her arms bound tight around her neck as she began to whimper. She didn't understand what was going on.
Her hand ran up and down Minnie's back to try and keep her calm but she found herself backing up towards the middle of the aisle to keep away from him. To keep them all safe.
"I thought it was you-"
"Back off and leave me alone." She wasn't doing this. (Y/n) wasn't having an enlightened conversation and she wasn't going to talk about old times or let Mark sway the conversation. She didn't want to talk, she wanted to leave. He was the reason (Y/n) didn't feel safe going out on her own anymore. He had taken so much from her.
The one and only thing he ever did right was give her Minnie; and that was the one thing Mark could never know he'd done.
"Who's the kid?" He tilted his chin up in indication of Minnie and his upper lip curled like he was a rabid dog about to snarl and bark. The look was one (Y/n) had seen too many times before and it sent her blood draining down to her toes.
"Fuck off." She felt Minnie shudder against her when she spoke. Bad words meant bad situations and Minnie didn't hear her mum swear often. She hadn't heard Evan swear once in her presence yet either.
Grabbing the trolley, she gave it a rough shove but Mark acted quicker and thrust his hands out against it, forcing it right back to her. (Y/n) stumbled back into the shelves behind her, wincing and biting down a groan when the trolley rammed into her knee and sent her leg jerking.
She sidestepped to the left, cradling the back of Minnie's head as she tried to move away. She couldn't take her eyes off Mark. Not when turning away from him meant Minnie would have to look at him. He was nasty and his expressions could be vulgar, she didn't want him pulling faces or trying to whisper at Minnie. And turning her back to him posed the threat of him grabbing her by her hair, (Y/n) had made that mistake before.
"Oi!"
A shiver rolled down (Y/n)'s spine and despite how deeply she sank her teeth into her lower lip, it didn't stop tears from rolling down her face or her throat from tightening up.
I want Evan! He said he'd protect us!
Her body shuddered and she came to an abrupt stop when Mark launched a jar her way. It missed her. He wasn't aiming to hit her, he was aiming to frighten her. And it worked. A large glass jar hit the floor just a foot or so in front of (Y/n) and shattered into pieces. Splinters of glass went flying in every direction and she clung to Minnie tighter when her daughter screamed into her neck.
"Who's is she?" Mark's voice dropped to something dark and guttural and it had flashes of red crossing (Y/n)'s vision.
She could see fists flying in front of her eyes. Vases being thrown. Yelling in her ears. She could feel the bruises littering her skin and the pain tingling through her nerves. She could hear the neighbours calling the police and the sirens when Mark wouldn't let them into the house. Any and every memory of him danced before her eyes as she clung to Minnie tighter, trying to ground herself.
"My fella's." She sneered with as much venom in her eyes as there was in Mark's voice. And her free hand moved down to hold her stomach as she glared daggers into him. This was her family. These were Evan's kids, Mark had nothing to do with them. "She's four, do the math."
She clutched Minnie tighter just to make sure she wouldn't speak up and correct (Y/n) by saying she had just turned five. They didn't need Mark trying to do math and possibly coming up with the real answer. Four years ago (Y/n) wasn't with Mark, she had left him by then and she didn't care if he thought she was sleezy for moving on with someone else so quick. It was better than him knowing the truth.
Minnie didn't speak. She knew better, thank God, and she was too frightened to process what her mum was saying or realise that she wasn't four anymore. She just wanted to go home. She wanted her dad.
"What a whore."
(Y/n) was glad Minnie didn't understand that word or know what it meant. She backed up but when Mark threw another jar, this time aimed at her, (Y/n) spun round. She couldn't run backwards and she needed to move.
Tears soaked into her neck and she could feel Minnie starting to sob loudly into her skin.
"I- I want daddy," She mewled between deep, rumbling cries and (Y/n) pressed a shaky kiss to her cheek as she reached the end of the aisle and made a sharp left turn. They needed customers. They needed witnesses to see what Mark was doing and prevent him from getting close to them.
"I know-" (Y/n) broke off into a scream when the trolley forcefully rammed into her hip and sent her barrelling into the shelves of tinned food on her left.
She couldn't help but fall to her knees and her ankle spasmed and twisted, crushed against the wheel of the trolley which had caused shockwaves to rattle all up and down her right leg. Her arms deadlocked around Minnie and she tried to push her against her stomach to shield her. She could feel broken glass on the floor and it was cutting into her knees, she didn't want Minnie to get hurt too.
An ungodly amount of terror swam through her veins when she looked up and noticed Mark approaching them.
Why were there no people in this aisle? Why was no one hearing the commotion and coming to help? Were people turning away in favour of less confrontation?
(Y/n) shuffled forward a little and shakily stood Minnie up on her feet so she could manoeuvre herself in front of her daughter. She kept Minnie tucked behind her back, pinned between her and the shelves to keep her protected and hidden. Her chin lifted up defiantly and her lips curled into a snarl when Mark kneeled down beside her.
(Y/n) acted as fast as she could. Her fingers curled around one of the tins from the floor and she clutched it tight as she swung her arm with as much effort as she could muster. Smashing the tin into the side of Mark's head, level with his left eye.
The action caused him to howl and fall back on his behind, cradling his face which gave (Y/n) a few seconds.
Her hands shook so much she could barely scramble to get her bag off her shoulder. When she found her phone, she tapped her thumb repeatedly against the button until it unlocked.
"Call daddy. T-tell him it's an emergency!"
Minnie was gasping and screaming, alerting enough attention that people in other aisles were finally peering round to try and find out what was happening. One of which happened to be a middle aged woman with a child clinging to her hand and a young toddler in her trolley.
Women with children were usually safe, safer than people on their own at least. They couldn't run off with Minnie if they had other children to try and hurry out with.
Minnie tried scrolling through the phone to find Evan's contact, but she could barely see through her tears. Her vision blurred and it took her a while to lock onto Evan's dazzling smile in the icon picture. She barely clicked on his contact before (Y/n) was pushing her down the next aisle.
"L-lady, go to t-the lady." She pointed frantically at the woman with the children and tried to crawl away from the pile of tins and the trolley pinning her into the corner. She would follow Minnie, but she needed her daughter to move first and be as far away from Mark as possible.
Desperate, howling cries rolled off of Minnie's lips as she trotted over to the woman. She didn't want to be standing with her, but she had to do as she was told. She kept a foot of distance between herself and the lady who pushed her young child next to the trolley so she could rest a hand on Minnie's shoulder.
She had heard the commotion. She could see (Y/n) and Minnie were in some form of distress and she would stay with Minnie until things calmed down.
Relief splintered through (Y/n)'s blood when she heard someone yell "Call security!" That meant she was going to be safe soon. Shops had security, they had people who could cuff Mark and pin him down and call for the police to arrest him. They would have cameras to show that he had tried to attack her and Minnie, unprovoked.
Her hands trembled as she tried to latch onto the shelves to pull herself up, she could hardly crawl across the floor to get away.
Her legs wanted to give way once she was up. Pins and needles rushed through her blood and her knees felt heavy and unable to lock in place to keep her stood up. The baby was kicking and twisting in panic and (Y/n) could feel adrenaline sparking in her stomach and dwindling around in her chest. Everything was on fire. She wanted to go home. She wanted Evan.
Apparently she wasn't very good at trying to get away. Three steps was all (Y/n) could manage before her eyes snapped closed and she started to choke when Mark roughly grappled with the back of her shirt. He yanked it so fast the collar rose and dug into her throat, cutting off her breathing.
She flung her elbow into his abdomen and pushed her weight backwards to try and catch him off guard and distort his balance.
Her watering eyes could see people heading their way. A man left his partner to run towards them. A young woman gave her husband a shove with a dirty look that silently told him to intervene and help. Security could be heard in the distance, rushing their way. Help was coming.
"Daddy!"
"Mouse? Baby, what's the matter?" The alert tone in Evan's voice made him sound sharp and panicked but it calmed down one of the thousands of nerves igniting in Minnie's system.
Her dad was on the phone. He had answered. He would know what to do, he would come and help them.
"Bad man. T-the bad man hurt mummy, daddy y…you come get me. Mummy said i-it's emergency."
"What? Baby where are you? What bad man, what did he do?"
Minnie let out another wail. Why wasn't he coming? Why wasn't he saying that he was going to come and get them? Why wasn't Evan telling her that everything was going to be okay and he would help her mum and come and get them both?
She tilted her head back and looked up at the lady behind her. Minnie didn't know where they were. She had no idea what shop they were in or what to tell her dad. She didn't know what was happening, she didn't know the bad man or why he was shouting and throwing things and trying to hurt her mum. Minnie didn't understand anything that was happening.
"Baby girl I need to know where you are." Evan's sharp voice cut through the speaker and Minnie looked up at the woman, lifting the phone to try and get some help.
The lady looked around, clearly trying to find her bearings and remember the name of the shop they were in. She crouched down and leaned over Minnie's shoulder to speak into the phone. She repeated the name of the shop and the street which stopped Minnie from screaming. Her dad knew where they were, surely he would be coming to get them now.
"No!" (Y/n) bashed her elbow into Mark's stomach again and wrenched her collar down from her throat so she could keep breathing. But when she saw Mark gearing back up with a clenched fist and his eyes on her stomach, (Y/n) shook her head.
She stumbled forward, flinging her fists at him to keep him off her. She had already fallen into the shelves and almost been mowed down by a trolley. Anymore shock might do some damage to the baby and she couldn't have Mark hitting her in the stomach, she had to protect the baby.
Both hands moved to her stomach as she stumbled back a few paces, shuddering and gasping through her tears when a man took a lunge and tackled Mark to the floor.
Her feet fumbled over one another as she moved towards Minnie who was still screaming and gasping, both her hands trembling as they held the phone close.
A pair of hands settled on (Y/n)'s arms but she jerked forward, choking on a moan. She didn't want anyone touching her; not unless it was Evan.
She let herself slump down to her knees, flopping her head against a trolley while her trembling arm reached out so Minnie could scuttle under her arm and tuck into her side.
Minnie lifted the phone up and mumbled a shaky "Daddy," to let (Y/n) know that she had done as she was told and called him. That he was on the phone and he was going to come and get them. The news made (Y/n)'s stomach swarm with relief. She swallowed harshly and tilted her head down to kiss the top of Minnie's head.
She could hear Evan's voice, frantic and paranoid as he called out her name, desperate to know if she was alright and what was going on. But (Y/n) couldn't muster a lot of words.
"Evan, p-please, come get us."
***
"Minnie no-"
(Y/n) sighed to herself and let out a grumble when Minnie bolted to her feet and ran down the aisle. There was no stopping her now that Evan was within her line of sight.
He was storming down the aisle like a force of nature, hands clenched into fists at his sides. Sweat soaking through his dark navy blue uniform. Hair askew in all directions from the amount of times he had raked his fingers through the curls on the journey down here. The darkest look was plastered across his face, one that (Y/n) had never seen before and it sent her stomach reeling.
But his expression started to thaw just a little when he saw Minnie bolting his way. Arms stretched out in front of her and a feeble 'daddy' falling from her lips along with the tears drenching her face.
Evan had left the rest of the team scrambling out of the truck so he could bustle ahead and try and find his family. It didn't take long. Security were on the doors, they weren't letting any customers into the store and people were being questioned before they were allowed to leave. But they allowed Evan and the team inside and he headed straight for the voices and the commotion he could hear near the back of the store.
He paused in his stride and bent down just enough to scoop Minnie up when she pelted towards him like a speeding car.
Her arms bolted around his neck and her shaking went straight through Evan's chest and to his core. His lips curled in anger when he felt how badly his little girl was shaking and he could feel her sniffling and mewling into his neck.
"It's okay, little mouse. I got you." He pressed his lips longingly to the side of her head while his hand smoothed up and down her back.
He continued in his long strides towards the scene in front of him. There she was, there was (Y/n). Sat on the floor, leaning up against the shelves. She had a bottle of water at her side and a bowl Evan presumed they were using in case (Y/n) felt like she was going to be sick.
She looked drained. Her body was trembling, one hand was knotted in her hair and the other was pressed down into the floor to try and stabilise herself. There was a security officer stood nearby, at least two store workers sat down with (Y/n), someone Evan guessed might be the manager was talking on the phone. And a lady with two young children was hovering nearby, possibly a witness to what had happened.
Evan sighed into Minnie's hair and jostled her a bit higher on his chest and a fire ignited in his heart when he heard one of the workers whisper "Is that your husband?" To which (Y/n) nodded.
One of the workers moved out the way to let Evan get close and he wasted no time crashing down to his knees beside (Y/n). He kept Minnie sat on his left hip, holding her tight with one arm while his other hand reached out to cup the side of (Y/n)'s face.
His eyes dragged over her frame, taking in whatever he could. Her shirt was dishevelled, the collar scrunched and crinkled. Her hair was out of place. Every inch of her was trembling and she had been sick.
"What happened?" He traced his thumb along the edge of (Y/n)'s jaw while she tilted her head back to look up at him. She had finally stopped crying, but just looking at Evan and the manic fear written across his face was enough to have her tearing up again.
She reached her hand up to clutch at his wrist, leaning into his touch as she tried to gather her thoughts.
"Mark saw me, he g-got angry."
"What'd he do?"
Evan didn't like the way (Y/n) wouldn't meet his eyes, he could barely take in a proper breath when he didn't get an answer. His lips pressed together firmly and he swallowed down a growl when (Y/n) tilted her head forward so she wouldn't have to look up at him. Her forehead pressed into his shoulder and she leaned close, securing hands into his shirt to give herself something to focus on.
A quiet 'okay' passed Evan's lips as he gently twisted Minnie around and sat her down between his knees rather than keeping her juggled on his hip. He let her curl up between his legs like she was taking cover and her face buried into his thigh with her hands latched around his trouser leg.
He wanted to get Hen or Chimney to check Minnie over and make sure she was okay. He wanted them to sit with her so he could talk in private to (Y/n), but he knew Minnie wasn't going to be moved one foot away from either parent when she was this distressed. Not even to talk to uncle Chimney or uncle Eddie.
"Tell me." His lips hovered over (Y/n)'s ear and she didn't have to look at him to know he had a stern expression and an even darker tone of voice.
"He broke a few things, tried to push me around… He- he pushed me into some shelves. He didn't get near Minnie, and I'm okay-"
"You don't look okay. I'm gonna need Hen to check you over before we think about leaving." By the looks of her, Evan wouldn't say she was okay. She was in shock and he knew she was wincing when she tried to move every now and then. Evan needed her to get examined and he needed to know if they had to make a trip down to the hospital or not.
(Y/n) mustered up some strength to perch her chin on Evan's shoulder, allowing her to look up at him. She sank her teeth down into her lip at the pained expression on his face.
"You promise me you're not in pain or hurt bad?"
She nodded. She felt too shook up and flooded with adrenaline to know if she had any bad bruises or strains, but she was okay. She had come off worse when she'd had fights with Mark in the past. A few sore spots was nothing compared to what she had felt in the past and she had kept Minnie and the baby safe. That was the main thing.
"Is that him?"
The dark tone to Evan's voice was almost unrecognisable and for a moment, (Y/n) wasn't sure if it was him who had spoken. But when she realised he was looking down the end of the aisle, she turned to look around.
Security were finally moving Mark now that he was in handcuffs since the police had arrived. And his eyes were locked on them.
A shiver crawled down (Y/n)'s spine and adrenaline intermingled with fright when Evan tried to move. His warmth and touch retracted from her and he jolted to the side, about to get up and storm over towards Mark. He was going to go and teach him a lesson. Evan would make him pay for petrifying his girls like this.
"Evan please-"
"Daddy don't leave me!"
Minnie's petrified voice was enough to stop Evan. His head twisted back to look down at her and he could feel his lips twitching as tears welled up in his eyes. Her little nails scratched through his trousers and her head lifted up when Evan tried to get up.
She deadlocked her hands around his arm and yanked forcefully, desperate to keep him with her. She wouldn't be safe if he walked away. He wouldn't be safe if he went near the bad man. Minnie just wanted everyone to be safe and go home.
He let (Y/n) wind her arms around his torso and burrow her face into his chest. And when Minnie started to tremble and looked up at him with those big watering eyes, Evan all but crumbled.
He swooped his arm around her waist and pulled her up to snuggle her into his chest.
"I'm not leaving you, baby girl. The bad man can't hurt you, I promise."
