Theory

What if Redbeard is not a real dog and was never a real dog, but a creation devised by Sherlock and Mycroft when Sherlock was a child to stand in place of memories that would have been his twin sister Euros? The flashbacks he keeps having of playing with his dog as a pirate could actually be recreated memories of ones he'd had with Euros. They chose the name Redbeard because Sherlock loved pirates and when he played with Euros, that's what her pirate name was. Perhaps she was taken away because of mental health issues or she was declared dead at some point- maybe there was an accident at the beach they played at one day. The loss of a dog in her place was far easier for Sherlock to cope with. In order to keep those memories of his sister repressed, Mycroft created a story about "The East Wind" in order to terrify him enough to not want to ever think about the reality.

In the preview for episode 3 Mycroft says to Sherlock: "Every choice you ever made, every path you've ever taken, the man you are today is your memory of Euros" Something dramatic happened when they were kids. Maybe when they were kids Euros killed Redbeard. She was taken away after that for obvious reasons? Or something along that lines?

the XXX thing: is tripping me up... -in the show, everyone signs their texts with their initials...but maybe i've missed something...again, i'll be rewatchinga all of the episodes. -if y'all know something about "XXX" that i don't...plz let me know <3 -also, why 3 x's? if the signature "xxx" is not significant (idk if its a signature yet), is the number 3 significant? i mean... the message from the cipher IS from the 3rd act tho...perhaps that is significant...

the dates: -all the dates on all the pictures (except one) are 05/02/2017 -the dancing man cipher is 04/02/2017...but it's the start, the beginning...series 4 just ended...maybe they're hinting at series 5 here? Or the lost specials air date??? -also, being in america, we write our dates mm/dd/yyyy but because people in other countries write dates dd/mm/yy and we don’t know if this is fan-made or sherlock-made, we know that 05/02 and 04/02 could mean either feb. 5/feb. 4 OR april 2/may 2...
