The ride to the radio tower in Cody was not something you looked forward to when you read your name on the patrol rotation board.
You did not particularly enjoy sitting on horseback for a longer amount of time ever since you injured your tailbone just before you got to Jackson almost four years ago. The injury had fully healed of course, but certain movements still made you sore.
But you were never one to complain and saw the bright parts of such a journey.
Spending one on one time with Joel Miller for example.
Not that you didn’t spend time with him anyway ever since he moved into your home almost two years ago. But there was something exciting knowing you and him would be almost alone for miles and miles. Well except for the two other people who were also on patrol which would be Eugene and one of the newer residents of Jackson a young woman named Katy.
„I could talk to Maria, tell her you’re sick,“ Joel offered, his chin resting on your shoulder as he stood behind you his chest against your back, his arms caging you against the counter where you prepared a big to go cup (thanks to a Starbucks raid earlier this year) with Coffee for him and a fresh mint tea for you.
„That’s awfully nice of you, but I finally convinced myself to pretend it’s like a little 3 day vacation.“
„Oh yeah?“ He asked and you nodded, smiling as you felt his nose against your neck, breathing you in.
„Jup. You know, five star accommodation in a… abandoned farmhouse, food and drinks all inclusive, spa treatments….“ You listed.
„Oh yeah I can see it. Rustic survival experience package included,“ he hummed and you chuckled.
„See? The amount of money you’d have to pay for that like twenty years ago,“ you put the lid on both of the travel cups and turned around, tilting your head up to look up at him. His hair was still wet, combed back. He had shaved a little, leaving his beard a little shorter than usual. There were tiny wrinkles around his eyes as he looked at you, a small smile on his lips, his brown eyes soft and… happy.
It was a completely different version from the Joel you met three years ago when he and Ellie first got here.
It took a lot of time and patience to get to know this version of Joel, the version he only showed to the people he loved.
You got on your tiptoes, kissing him softly on his plush lips.
„Come on, we gonna be late,“ you whispered and he pecked your lips again, sighing as he parted from you and picked up both of your already packed backpacks, leaving you to carry the cups and sandwiches you had prepared for the journey.
With your rifle over your shoulder, your backpack and a bag with some food strapped to your horse, Ellie let you borrow Shimmer, you were riding next to Joel behind Eugene and Katy who were currently playing a game of car (yeah, hilarious, they already saw one in the last three hours).
You had another hour to go and you were already looking forward to taking a nap first thing you got there. You had volunteered to take the first watch during the night, giving you perks of not having to set up camp and clearing the area of infected.
„You okay?" Joel asked and you turned your head to look at him, giving him a small smile.
„I’m fine,“ you said as he looked at you and he sighed, not believing a word.
„Want me to give you a massage later?“ He asked, riding a little closer so only you could hear him.
„I don’t know, if I can afford a spa treatment. Money is a little low,“ you teased him and he sucked his bottom lip in, shaking his head, fighting a smile.
„We’ll find a way for you to pay, don’t you worry,“ he hummed and you couldn’t help but smile at him for a moment longer before your eyes drifted away from him to watch your surroundings.
It was almost dark when you got to the radio tower in Cody. The four of you made quick work of checking the building, before you spend some time talking and eating together. You took a thirty minute nap, Joel waking you up so you could start first watch.
You were looking forward to stretching your muscles while on the watch of threats, stretching your body after riding all day. Not that something had ever happened here before when you were out on this trip.
It was getting colder, winter fast approaching.
Joel had given you his winter jacket to keep warm before he laid down into this sleeping bag, reminding you to wake him up in four hours so he could take over second watch.
You still couldn’t get used to how dark the night made the world around you ever since the outbreak. There was no twinkling light of a city in the far distance, no noise of a far away high way.
You were on the roof of the tower, the whole landscape surrounding you.
It was dark and quiet. The only light source the half moon, the only noise an owl somewhere in the woods beside the house.
You saw some deer while watching out through the scope of your rifle but you decided against taking one down.
You did not have the right tools to put it apart and take back to Jackson so you watched them while they were running around.
A noise behind you let you jump, your rifle still in your hand. Turning around you watched Joel as he walked up to you, completely dressed apart form his coat you were wearing, watching you with a little amused smile.
„Could have shot you,“ you sighed, taking a deep breath to calm down your rapidly beating heart.
„What a way to go,“ he joked and you rolled your eyes. You turned away from him, your eyes back on the landscape in front of you.
„What are you doing up?“ You asked.
„Couldn’t sleep,“ he hummed and you felt him getting closer until his arms came to rest on the railing in front of you, his body caging you in. You felt his warmth even through the layers you were already wearing, wondering if he was getting cold, only wearing his undershirt and Flannel.
„You should try anyway. It’s gonna be a long day tomorrow,“ you said and he hummed.
You stood there in silence for a while before you felt his lips on your jaw. One of his hands left the railing, pulling a little on the coat you were wearing until he could access more of your neck, his lips wandering down.
„What are you doing?“ You asked quietly, your head tilting to give him more access.
„Nothin’…“ he hummed, sucking on your skin. His hand slowly unzipped your coat, grunting when he found another coat beneath it.
„How many goddamn layers are you wearing?“ He asked irritated and you grinned to yourself.
„Enough to stay warm all night,“ you said and he made a disapproving noise, pulling the zipper of your second coat down. His beard scratched over your skin when he finally found a sliver of your skin with his fingers, his lips humming against your neck.
„Joel…“ you warned, the rifle still in your hands, propped over the railing, ready to be used immediately in the case of an emergency.
„Just keep watch baby. Don’t mind me,“ he said, his fingers now running down your stomach, his fingertips slipping under the waistband of your jeans all while his lips kept kissing your neck.
You took a deep breath before you relaxed your shoulders. You felt him smile against your skin, before his other hand let go of the railing and he opened the button of your jeans.
„I want you to focus on keeping watch, baby. Can you do that for me?“ He asked, his lips against your ear while his fingers pulled at the waistband of your jeans. Your breath hitched, you head nodding.
„I need words,“ he said and you whimpered.
„I do. I can, Joel,“ you mumbled.
„Good girl,“ he whispered and your knees buckled at his low praise.
The rifle was by now slumped in front of you, only held up by the string over your shoulder. Joel slipped your jeans and panties down to your knees before his warmth left your back.
„I want you to keep your hands on the railing. You gonna want to hold on to something,“ he said and your hand shot out, gripping the railing, fighting a whimper.
You had no idea what got into him, but you weren’t about to question him.
His fingers brushed up the back of your thighs, making you sigh.
“Gotta be quiet. Sound travels from up here. Don’t want Eugene knowing what we’re up to here, huh?“ he said before you felt his tongue lick through your folds from behind, front to back.
„Fuck,“ you gasped, letting your hand fall in between your shoulders, your eyes slipping closed.
„Nuh uh. Keep that eyes on you surroundings. Want you to keep watch while I eat this pussy,“ he said and you bit into your bottom lip before you tilted your head up, your eyes focused on the dark landscape in front of you.
Joel licked you slowly, humming against you, both of his hands pulling your asscheeks apart, exposing you fully to him. You moaned quietly as he ate you out, his tongue slipping inside of you, fucking you with it slowly.
„Shit,“ you whined, wiggling in his grasp. He slapped your ass.
„Stay still. Tell me what you see,“ he hummed, you felt his breath on your ass.
„Wha..at?“ You asked.
„Tell me,“ he licked, „what you see. Got a job to do. Don’t let me stop you from it,“ you could hear the grin in his voice, before he slapped your ass again. Harder this time.
„Fuck. Fuck okay,“ you said. You blinked your eyes a couple of times, your gaze wandering around as you felt Joel’s tongue flick over your clit.
„There’s… There’s a family of deer not far from here,“ you started. He hummed, his lips closing around your clit, sucking slowly.
„It’s two big deer and five smaller ones. They… Fuck the younger ones are jumping around,“ you whimpered, your knuckles starting to hurt form how hard you were gripping the railing.
„What else?“ Joel asked and you groaned. You took a deep breath, trying to find something else.
„Ho-ORSES, fuck right there,“ you moaned and you felt him chuckle as he focused his tongue on your clit while two of his fingers entered you without any resistance, angling them inside of you, his fingertips brushing over the spot only he seemed to be able to find immediately.
„Joel please,“ you mumbled out of breath.
He played your body like he played his guitar, with strong hands an nimble fingers, pushing you closer and closer to your orgasm, your insides clenching. You could feel it deep in your bones, your muscles tensing. And just before you could fall over the edge Joel stopped. His fingers pulling out.
You whined in disappointment and Joel bit into your left ass cheek.
It’s then that you both heard it. The unmistakable noise of infected.
You tensed, your hands gripping the riffle, pulling yourself in position.
Joel held on to your hip as he got back up, the weight of him behind you keeping you focused.
„How far away?“
„Far,“ you whispered, your finger now hovering over the trigger. With one eye closed you kept an eye on them through the scope. It were six or seven, you could not say for sure due to the darkness.
„Think you can take them out from here?“ Joel asked and you heard him unbuckle his belt, fighting the urge to turn around to watch what he was doing.
„What are you doing?“ You asked, your eyes still fixed on the slowly approaching danger.
„Nothin’. Shoot them baby. I know you can. Best fucking shot we have in Jackson,“ he hummed. You were now leaning over the railing, the gun sitting over it, pointed towards your target. You steadied yourself, fading out everything around you, your eyes finding your first target.
It looked like it had been a young man before it got infected. You breathed in, pulling the trigger as you breathed out, a shot ringing out and that was when Joel chose to thrust into you hard, making you stumbled minimally forward, gasping out. Joel’s arm came around you, reloading the gun for you, his cock deep inside of you.
„Next,“ he hummed against your ear. You clenched around his cock, making him choke out as you took back control of the gun.
„A little warning would have been great,“ you turned your head to look at him. He just kissed you once.
„Where would be the fun in that? Go on, lemme check how good of a shot you are while you’re fucked,“ he said and you couldn’t stop a low moan from your throat as he rolled his hips.
„Someone woke up horny,“ you mumbled to yourself and you heard him chuckle. You leaned back forward, your eye searching for your next target through the scope. When you found it, you didn’t think, you just pulled the trigger, watching it fall down, while Joel bottomed out and thrust back into you hard.
„So fucking wet,“ Joel groaned, slowly fucking into you.
You reloaded the gun, lining up the next shot, trying to steady yourself as you took the shot, Joel thrusting into you hard again.
„Fuck,“ you whimpered.
„Gonna make you cum so hard once you took them all out,“ Joel promised and you gasped as you reloaded the gun again.
Every time you pulled the trigger he thrusted into you so hard you had to push back against him to not stumble forward.
It was after eight shots more (you only missed one) that you secured the weapon and put it down.
„My good girl,“ Joel praised you, his arm pulling you up against him. You wiggled yourself out of his coat, wanting to feel him closer. One of his arm wrapped around you, his hand gripping one of your tits over your shirt.
„Please make me cum. I’m so fucking close,“ you whimpered, bringing your hands up to hold on to his arm wrapped around your chest. He fucked up into you deeply, his other hand coming down in between your legs, finding your clit. He circled his fingers over it while he continued to fuck you.
„I’m… Fuck I’m gonna cum,“ you moaned, meeting his thrusts as best as you could.
„Shit, keep squeezing my cock like that,“ he grunted against you ear.
It was within the next few second that you exploded around him, your lips parted in a silent scream, shaking around him.
„Fuck baby. Can I cum inside you?“ He asked and you nodded.
„Last period ended three days ago. Should be fine,“ you whimpered.
„Fuck, you sure?“
„Joel please come inside of me,“ you whined and he groaned, thrusting a handful more times before you felt him twitch inside of you, fucking his cum inside of you.
His head came to rest on the back of yours, you both out of breath.
„What was that all about? Not that I’m complaining,“ you asked and he huffed a laugh.
„Woke up horny for you,“ he said and you both chuckled. He slowly pulled out of you and you hissed a little.
He pulled up your jeans for you after he tucked himself back in and you turned around in his arms. He had pulled his coat on and you put your arms under it, hugging him close.
„You took them all out?“ He asked, looking down at you.
„Sure did.“
„That’s my girl,“ he smiled and kissed you.

Cabinet Endorsements
One thing that's flown a bit below the radar in this election is that former cabinet members haven't been acting like they usually do. Normally, former cabinet members will automatically endorse their former boss for re-election, but Trump's have not been doing that.
This is of particular interest because, while we, the voters, get to see the President give speeches and the like, we don't actually work with him. Presumably a cabinet member is someone who agrees with the president and who the president trusts and who gets to work closely with the president, so their opinion of the president is an important benchmark.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the 44 former cabinet members of the Donald J. Trump administration and the 2 former cabinet members of the Joseph R. Biden administration. I'll put an (E) next to the ones that have endorsed their former boss, an (H) next to the ones who haven't yet, and an (R) next to the ones who have outright refused to do so.
Cabinet Members of the Donald J. Trump Administration (R) VP Mike Pence (H) Sec. State Rex Tillerson (H) Sec. State/CIA Director Mike Pompeo (E) Sec. Treasury Steven Mnuchin (R) Sec. Defense James Mattis (H) Sec. Defense Patrick Shanahan (nominated) (R) Sec. Defense Mark Esper (H) Sec. Defense Christopher Miller (acting) (H) AG Jeff Sessions (R) AG William Barr (H) AG Jeffrey Rosen (acting) (E) Sec. Interior Ryan Zinke (H) Sec. Interior David Bernhardt (H) Sec. Agriculture Sonny Perdue (E) Sec. Commerce Wilbur Ross (H) Sec. Labor Andrew Puzder (nominated) (H) Sec. Labor Alex Acosta (H) Sec. Labor Eugene Scalia (H) Sec. HHS Tom Price (H) Sec. HHS Alex Azar (H) Sec. HHS Pete Gaynor (E) Sec. HUD Ben Carson (H) Sec. Transporation Elaine Chao (H) Sec. Transportation Steven Bradbury (acting) (H) Sec. Energy Rick Perry (H) Sec. Energy Dan Brouillette (H) Sec. Education Besty DeVos (H) Sec. Education Mick Zais (acting) (H) Sec. VA David Shulkin (E) Sec. VA Ronny Jackson (nominated) (H) Sec. VA Robert Wilkie (R) Sec. HS John Kelly (H) Sec. HS Kirstjen Nielsen (H) Sec. HS Chad Wolf (nominated) (E) US Trade Rep. Robert Lighthizer (H) DNI Dan Coats (H) DNI John Ratcliffe (H) UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (H) OMB Directory Mick Mulvaney (E) OMB Director Russel Vought (H) CIA Director Gina Haspel (H) EPA Admin. Scott Pruitt (H) EPA Admin. Andrew Wheeler (H) SBA Admin. Linda McMahon (H) SBA Admin. Jovita Caranza
Cabinet Members of the Joseph R. Biden Administration (E) Sec. Labor Marty Walsh (E) OMB Director Neera Tanden (nominated) (H) Office of Science and Tech. Director Eric Lander
The first thing we notice, obviously, is that there are a whole lot more former Trump cabinet members. This is partially because Biden is still in office so his 23 current cabinet members are not counted (it'd be a huge surprise if they didn't endorse him and they probably wouldn't still be working for him if they didn't), but it's also because Trump had way above average turnover for cabinet officials, 19 in the first four years not including the 5 who resigned due to his handling of the 2020 election results (not included because Biden hasn't reached that point in his first term yet), while Biden has had far below average turnover, only 3 so far.
So a lot more people shuffling in and out of the Trump administration, but we also notice a ton more H's than E's there. Heck, there's almost as many R's among Trump's people as there are E's (5 to 7). Meanwhile, Biden's shooting 2 for 3 and the third one hasn't (at least not that I could find) ruled out endorsing him.
Keep in mind, endorsing the nominee of your party is pretty much the bare minimum that any party operative needs to do. Imagine if you applied for a job somewhere, the first question was "do you think this company should be in business", and you answered "no". You probably wouldn't be getting a job there. In other words, refusing to endorse has some big consequences for the people doing it, not just costing them a job in the potential next Republican presidency, but locking them out of the party entirely, and yet a good deal of the people who worked for Trump disliked working with him so much that they're doing it anyways.
As I said, this tends to fly below the radar because it's kind of a formulaic ritual; of course members of the President's party who are closely tied to him are going to endorse him for re-election! That's why you should pay attention now that most of the people who've worked with Trump aren't doing so. It says something, something big.

3. Tom Steyer
4. Marianne Williamson (She is definitely weird and new agey, but Wikipedia's summary of her policies don't sound too bad)
2024 Democratic Primaries: Marianne Williamson (I don't expect her to win at all, but I appreciate the challenge to Biden from the left. Remind him the progressive wing is still alive. Also, screw RFK Jr. I hate all the Kennedys. Except Eunice. She made the special Olympics; she can stay.)
PS: I made one of these for the Republican Primaries too. I might post that later.

How does your magic system work?
This post comes out of a lore dump by my DM explaining DND magic through the creation of a magic/anti-magic pair of particles.
So what about in other pieces of media. 1) Diathesis-stress This is a psychological theory suggesting that a condition needs a genetic predisposition, and then exposure to an environmental stimulus (stress) in order for the traits to begin to show
2) Unexplained science e.g. The long earth, To sleep in a sea of stars, Dragonriders of pern This can be good or not, as it can be studied and understood, but it can lead to quite a bad consequence …. the possibility for genetic supremacy
And so I come to my favourite game;
How eugenics is your magic system?
Before I start, I will be discussing mundane vs magical humans, rather than inherently magical beings such as fae, mer, dragons. Although they will be brought in, I am not discussing their species
Genetics - pure eugenics e.g. harry potter Your character has the right genes in order to be able to 'just do it'. if you do not have those genes you will fail, leads to genetic supremacy (you see the relevance of the example)
Genetics - interbred e.g. Percy Jackson You have an ancestor which allows you to use their magic. they have no control over your use of magic, but you can then breed for that trait. (I know that in PJ the power has diminishing returns but it is just to get you thinking)
Genetic - earned/choice e.g. Lord of the Rings, Ingo by Helen Dunmore Although your ancestors interbred you need to choose. in LOTR we know Elrond and Elros had to choose if they chose elf or human. In Ingo (obscure reference but I like it) you have to accept what 'magic' you are doing, but it needs you to have the gene for it.
Genetic - inheritance/cultural e.g Belgarid series by David Eddings, Merlin (TV show) druids There is a genetic element, but if you seek out the relevant god/gods then you can gain magic as well. In these examples the main character is genetic, but we see how culture effects their magic use.
Some - trainable e.g. Earthsea series by Ursula le Guin Lots of people can, but you need to learn to control it through self-control or magic words etc. Earthsea might have everyone being magic, but due to some of the ways the school/education works I want to say there is some people who are better. The way this is different to 'everyone - trainable' is because some people simply can't train at all and people are often said to 'have a gift' and so sent to train more.
Some - random e.g. The fire within by Chris d'Lacy There can be a genetic element, but magic is so unpredictable that it is more like it is magic choosing its hosts. if you have read the whole of the example series you know what I am talking about.
Everyone - but some are better than others e.g. star wars Midi-chlorian count, really? enough said
Everyone - magical onset e.g. Eragon by Christopher Paolini Maybe Eragon is just my theory but in general, every Human has the chance of magic development, but it needs a cause. in Eragon, it needs a dragon, but Roran and Nasuada are able to start controlling their minds from magic-casters, suggesting magic exposure is correlated with how much magic you can do.
Everyone - testable e.g. The bone wich by Rin Chupeco There are types of magic, and people need a threshold to count, but it is a subtle impact on everyone's lives unless you have active control. this example is a good book if you want a more unique look at magic.
Who knows? - trainable e.g Riftwar saga by Raymond e. feist, Diskworld by Terry prattchet you might be magic, lets give you some task and see if you can do it
Who knows? - random e.g Narnia by C.S.Lewis, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke These characters are not shown as 'magic' but they are special for what appears to be no reason whatsoever.
I would love to hear other peoples takes on magic systems, especially is they are not in this list.
and remember, there is no magic

She was born in DC. to Harold “Hal” B. Jackson and Julia [nee Hawkins] Jackson. Hal Jackson [broadcast pioneer] and his partner Percy E. Sutton [politician] started Inner City Broadcasting. Her older brother, Hal B. Jackson, Jr. was appointed a Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge in 1972, making him the first African American Judge in the state of Wisconsin.

JEFFERSON - Rev. Bill E. Carpenter, 86, Jefferson, entered the presence of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Rev. Carpenter was a bi-vocational minister serving churches in Northeast Georgia for over a half-century and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Statham.
He was born in Oakwood, to the late Lorena Boling Carpenter and Roy Lee Carpenter and was “born again” in 1945 at Oakwood Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Bobbie Carpenter Foster; his brother, Fred Dennis Carpenter; and brother-in-law, Eugene B. Dalton.
He began singing gospel music early in life with his two sisters, Betty and Bobbie, and his brother, Dennis, at churches and “all-night singings” in the Southeast. He met his future wife Martha Ash in 1956 while singing at a church during his college days.
He was an honor graduate of North Georgia College where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation. He served as a graduate assistant in the Department of Business Administration at Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina, while he worked on a second degree. He also was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Florida Bible College.
After college, he managed a radio station in Washington, was married August 20, 1961, was ordained as a Baptist minister in September of 1961; and was called back into service in October 1961 during the Berlin Crisis to serve as a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corps at Fort Meade, Maryland.
After his final military service, he was selected in September 1962 to serve in the member and public relations department at Jackson EMC as an editor assuming duties of publications, advertising and member service programs and was later promoted to manager of member services. He also served as acting general manager during 1969.
While employed at Jackson EMC, in 1963, he became pastor of his first church, Tate's Creek Baptist Church near Toccoa. During his long ministry, he also served as pastor of five other Baptist churches: Crooked Creek in South Jackson County; Chattahoochee, Flowery Branch; Blacks Creek, Commerce; Central Baptist, Athens and Enon at Alto. During his ministry, he was privileged to mentor a large number of young people who were preparing for ministry and Christian service.
In March 1970, he was selected to serve on the board of directors of Jackson EMC and served until his retirement in May 2022. As a director he served in the office as secretary-treasurer, vice chairman and chairman. His combined service as an employee and director at Jackson EMC reached a total of 60 years. He also served on the board of directors of Georgia Electric Membership Cooperation and was on the advisory board of Oglethorpe Power Cooperation.
In 1971, he co-founded Neighborhood Gospel Missions, Inc. now headquartered near Lexington and served as president for 32 years.
In 1983, he established Gateway Monument Co., Inc. and was a member of the Elberton Granite Association and a Georgia marble dealer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ash Carpenter; sister, Betty C. Dalton; brother-in-law, John C. Foster Sr.; sister-in-law, Mildred Carpenter; and a number of cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Trabalhos:
Soundcloud: ➕.— (3RACHA) Double Knot (3RACHA) Hoodie Season (3RACHA) I SEE (3RACHA) Mad City (NCT 127) NXT 2 U (3RACHA) P.A.C.E. BACKGROUND/HEADCANONS.

ORA
Jesús, guíame hoy a tus brazos de amor.
REFLEXIONA
Si no conoces a Jesús, ¿qué harás para empezar a correr hacia Él y su amor? Si eres creyente, ¿cómo les contarás a otros de su amor?

Eugene E. Jackson
Eugene E. Jackson
The real Eugene E. Jackson:
Eugene Edward Jackson was born July 29, 1922 to Mabel and Edward Jackson in Pennsylvania. His mother was 17 at the time of his birth. His father was around 25. They had gotten married the year before when Mabel was 16.
He had an older sister Dorothy, who was 2 years older than him. He would later have a younger brother, Robert H., and sister, Elizabeth. He also had a brother William, who died as an infant in 1929. Even later, his mother must have remarried (for she undergoes a name change and has a step son). In total, Jackson had 10 siblings.I don’t know when his mother remarried. According to a genealogy website, Mabel and Edward had six children, out of the ten related to his mother. This must be adding Frances and Margaret. (Also could’ve been William)
Not much is known about his childhood. I can only give what a news article talking to his sister Margaret. Here is some quotes from the article, “She remembers Eugene and his brother, Robert, walking up the hill from their home in Valley Camp to the one-room schoolhouse in the Valley Heights section of New Kensington. They’d walk home for lunch and then back up the hill to school afterward. The boys liked to play ball at a large field near the railroad tracks in Valley Camp, Adams said. “They used to play a lot in the evening, kick the stick or whatever, and sometimes they would build a fire and roast potatoes,” she said. “It was a fun time for them.””
The article also quoted his brother Robert. It states: “Robert Jackson, 92, of Upper Burrell couldn’t say why Eugene wanted to be a paratrooper but noted his brother was adventurous. He swam several times across the Allegheny River with its dangerous currents. “He always was a daredevil,” he said.”
What I can tell you is that Jackson enlisted on October 7, 1940 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was 18 at the time of his enlistment, contradictory to the fact that Band of Brothers states in the show that he enlisted at the age of 16 by lying about his age. I have no idea where half of that comes from, but Jackson was born in 1922, making him two years under 20 when 1940 comes around.
According to Winters, Heffron, and Ambrose, Jackson joined Easy Company late in the action. Jackson had joined Easy as a replacement before the Holland jump. But according to his serial number for the Army and the Easy Company roster, Donald Malarkey’s story is accurate.
Don Malarkey states in his book, Easy Company Soldier, that Eugene Jackson had been seriously wounded in Normandy. Jackson got hurt by a large fragment from mortar to the head. He lost half his ear and had a 6-inch gash in his head. Before they went to Holland, he returned to Easy Company, ready to go again. He showed up for duty, still in his bandages. Compton (possibly Winters, Malarkey cannot remember) said that Jackson was not ready for duty yet and sent him back to the hospital. The hospital took him back, let him recover more, and Jackson returned again before they could jump.
Jackson jumped into Holland with the rest of Easy. Although he survived the Battle of the Bulge, he is improperly marked on the Belgium memorial for those died in the Foy and Bastogne. This is pictured below, where he is marked to have died in December of 1944 which is not accurate. He’s listed along with Skip Muck, Penkala, Hoobler, and others, all of which died during this time. His name remains here, inaccurately, because it is the only Easy Company memorial to have his name.
Jackson is considered the final combat death of Easy Company. He died due to his wounds on February, 15 1945 in Haguenau, France.
His death is portrayed in Band of Brothers, in which Webster narrates the episode. Webster, however, was not there. Forrest Guth was.
Forrest did not see what happened to Jackson, but he did not remember the grenade being thrown into the building first. This was what was shown to happen in the movie and in Winter’s plans. He assumed Mercier did throw one. He didn’t see what grenade shrapnel hit Jackson, if it was German or his own, but he states that everyone knew Jackson was dying as they dragged him and the prisoners back to Easy. He died before he could be evacuated to a hospital.
Malarkey remembers Jackson’s death like this: “Eugene Jackson got hammered by the wooden handle of a potato masher. Poor Jackson. He’s the guy who’d taken a large fragment from a mortar in the side of his head in Normandy, then shown up before the Holland jump as if nothing had happened. Now, he was fighting for what little life was left in him. They’d dragged him across the river, into our headquarters house, but everybody in the room knew he wasn’t going to make it. And he didn’t. He kept calling over and over for his “mama” to help him. He died as they tried to get him to a military hospital. Of shock- that’s what I heard. He was only nineteen, among those soldiers so anxious to get in that he’d lied about his age back when he was sixteen.”
Clancy Lyall states in his book: “Sadly we also lost two of our guys over there. One of them was Eugene Jackson, whom I mentioned before. He got hit by shrapnel from a grenade during one of the patrols over the river. A German, who was on the first floor of the outpost, dropped it on him just as they wanted to take that building. This patrol was led by Sergeant Kenneth Mercier. In the TV series they show it was Jackson’s own grenade that exploded in his face but that’s not true. Eugene died of his wounds before they could bring him to an aid-station....”
In Ambrose’s version, it states: “Mercier continued toward his target, eight men following him. When he got close enough to the German outpost, he fired a rifle grenade into the cellar window. As it exploded, the men rushed the building and threw hand grenades into the cellar. As those grenades exploded, Mercier led the men into the cellar, so close behind the blast that Pvt. Eugene Jackson, a replacement who had joined up in Holland, was hit in the face and head by fragments of shrapnel...As the explosions outside increased, Private Jackson, who had been wounded on the patrol, began screaming, “Kill me! Kill me! Somebody kill me! I can’t stand it, Christ I can’t stand it. Kill me, for God’s sake kill me!” His face was covered with blood from a grenade fragment that had pierced his skill and lodged in his brain...Jackson continued to call out. “Kill me! Kill me! I want Mercier! Where is Mercier?” He was sobbing. Mercier went to him and held his hand. “That’s O.K., buddy, that’s O.K. You’ll be all right.” Someone stuck a morphine Syrette in Jackson’s arm. He was by then so crazed with pain he had to be held down on the bunk. Roe arrived with another medic and a stretcher. As they carried the patient back toward the aid station, Mercier walked beside the stretcher, holding Jackson’s hand. Jackson died before reaching the aid station.” (Band of Brothers, 239)
He was 5 months short of turning 23 when he died, making him 22 when he died. Stephen Ambrose, however, quotes Webster. “”He wasn’t twenty years old,” Webster wrote. “He hadn’t begun to live. Shrieking and moaning, he gave up his life on a stretcher.” However, according to his birthdate, he would’ve been over 20. He also would have been around the same age as Webster, who was born in 1922 as well, around a month before Jackson.
Below is Jackson’s funeral service pamphlet:
He is buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in New Kensington, PA.
According to an article written by Jodi Weigand, published on May 29, 2016 (just past 71 year anniversary of his memorial service), “Robert Jackson was a soldier in Italy when his older brother died. Eugene was buried in a military cemetery in France until his body could be returned to the U.S. three years later.“It was a sad day,” he said of his brother’s funeral in May 1948.The family has a tradition of keeping mementos and photos. Eugene’s fill the dining room table at Robert Jackson’s home. They have 11 of the badges and medals he received, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Also included are his Army jacket and hats, rifle score book and soldier’s handbook. The family kept the dozens of letters he wrote from overseas. They also have photos taken while he was in the service and several childhood photos and drawings. While the Jackson family is proud of Eugene’s service, they want others’ service and sacrifice to be recognized as well.Jackson’s nephew, Barry Jackson, 66, of Upper Burrell said: “Our family wishes to convey to any man or woman who has served their country in any capacity that they all belong to a Band of Brothers.”
May Jackson be remembered and his life celebrated by those who served in the Band of Brothers. Currahee.
