Hello, hello! You know the deal—preliminary details.

So, Etie comes from a year or so after the end of Engage, and is enrolled as a student of the Blue Lions. Although her reason for being here is the opportunity to train and get stronger, she is also keeping a watchful eye on any Elyos friends that may be here, specifically the Firenese, and especially her best friends, the Firenese royals. (In the case that either of them are being mused, of course.)

I will note that, due to a difference in speech from the original Japanese version to English (highly formal type speech in JPN, which was translated to be VERY casual language in ENG), I will try to strike a medium between the two. She still very much has her love of muscles, exercise, and her jock-isms, but don't expect me to lean PURELY into the gym bro talk lol.

I think that's about it! I look forward to trying her out, and writing with you all!

The mod team is constantly working to improve TOA's combat, even when combat events are not actively happening. One of the big things that we've noticed tripping everyone up is the speed stat.

From the combat manual:

A character’s Speed affects their opponent’s accuracy, similar to Avoid, but interacts directly with an opponent’s current Speed. When two units enter combat, the character with the highest Speed will be designated as the character holding the Speed stat, but the other character’s Speed will be added to or subtracted from that number. For example, Character A has +4 Speed and attacks Character B, who has +2 Speed. Character A will be designated as the holder of the speed stat, but Character B’s current speed (+2) will be subtracted from Character A’s, so that the matchup will essentially be +2 Speed vs +0 Speed. This +2 Speed will then work like +2 Avoid and subtract 2 from Character B’s rolls against them. Speed also works with negative numbers. If Character A has +4 Speed and attacks Character B, who has -2 Speed, the negative speed will be added to Character A’s current Speed. The matchup then becomes the equivalent of +6 Speed vs +0 Speed. Speed caps at +6, so even if character B had -4 Speed, Character A would only ever gather +6 Speed from the difference between their stats. At +6 Speed, a character will lose its avoid bonus, but will be able to initiate a follow-up attack. This allows the character to attack again after their opponent’s counterattack, or launch two counterattacks of their own in a row. The table below illustrates how Speed interacts between two players.

As the speed stat works currently, negative speed does not exist in practice. In a matchup, speed is pooled together between player and enemy, and the character with the highest starting speed takes the combined number, always leaving the other character with 0 speed in practice.

We're considering changing it in one of two ways:

Speed will be pooled to determine if a character can use a follow-up attack, but then any remaining speed stat on a character - positive or negative - will be converted to avoid. - Player with +2 speed versus Enemy with +2 speed would put +2 avoid on both. - Player with -2 speed versus Enemy with +2 speed would put -2 avoid on Player and +2 avoid on Enemy - Player with +4 speed versus Enemy with -2 speed would pool both speed to give Player +6 and a follow-up attack. No avoid conversion when a follow-up triggers

Speed will only exist as a positive number. All items and abilities in the combat manual that inflict a speed debuff will be retuned, most of which will become -avoid but some may be changed in other ways. Tentatively, speed will otherwise work exactly like it does in its current iteration, except that there will be no instances of negative speed coming into play. This may require that we raise the speed cap, however, so that it's not as hard to trigger follow-up attacks.

Of course, you can also vote to leave the system as-is. Regardless, we appreciate your feedback!

like i can def understand the reason for wanting to slay safi bc??? yeah it's fuckin dangerous, it literally reshapes ecosystems, but like????? it was just Vibing!!!!! granted it was also luring an incredibly destructive black dragon to consume its energy but STILL i don't recall that we knew anything about alatreon when safi was first discovered? all we knew was it was Big it was the mature form of xeno'jiiva and it was (rightfully) pissed off about its nap being interrupted and its nest being invaded by hunters

PERSONALLY and maybe i'm Biased because i like safi a lot and all but i feel like letting it be May Have been better?? more time to study it and how it works and whatnot, it didn't seem even slightly interested in anything outside of the secluded valley save for the first cutscene where its discovered and it comes back into the nest (possibly was out hunting?) and considering how much energy there IS in the secluded valley it seems like it wouldn't be an immediate danger to anything in the area for a LONG time; not to mention it's in the GUIDING LANDS so like?? definitely not an Immediate Oh Shit Threat to, like, Anyone LMAO

let safi be and take out the alatreon and it would have been Fine, but even if we DIDN'T take out alatreon in time a black dragon level safi would have been cool as HELL and made for a REALLY fun and challenging fight, especially if it Would end up gaining the elemental abilities and perfecting them (going in line w the jiivas being called the "perfect being")

but no😔 instead we got fatalis and everybody promptly forgot about safi and alatreon and the fact that safi Also seemed to be actively malicious and angry</3 gotta let the big bad get his spotlight I Guess

i don't even think anyone talks about safi after you beat ala and fatalis either? the most there is is the OCCASIONAL reference to alatreon iirc but absolutely nothing on safi and alatreon and how we "needed" to figure out the connection💔💔💔💔

So Kan knew Sofia when he was just a child?

So when me and @eti-mun talked a bit about it. Sofia probably use to travel to villages for guild work. One day she happen to visit Kokoto when Kan was a small kid with a skillet on his head and a wooden sword and shield playing hunter.

He was fascinated with her and asked her if she could tell him a few stories and about some of the monsters she had seen. Before she left he vowed to one day be a hunter just like her and hopefully see her again.

I have to agree though, Almudron does have an endearing little face! Must be the whiskers, reminds me of a catfish! 

Needless to say, it looks awesome, I’m so glad we’re getting more leviathan monsters! :D I love how it makes use of the mud in it’s surroundings, creating giant pillars that the hunter needs to run up to gain a higher advantage. I’m not entirely sure what myth it’s based on, seeing as each monster is, but I’m curious to know!
