absolutely infuriating to me that people try to pretend that fargo s3 is the best. it’s not. it’s really not. nikki & wrench are by far the best part of it; and i think gloria is a decent, if underwhelming, protagonist; but besides those 3 characters, there’s a nonsense plot & antagonists with poorly thought out & over-explained yet boring motivations (which is a damn shame, because david thewlis can fucking act (see: landscapers)) and THEN the people that talk up s3 usually end up hating on s4, which was FUCKING PHENOMENAL. “weh it doesn’t feel like fargo mnehsnsn”. oh my god! you’re stupid. Like I can’t help but think it’s purely down to racism seeing as s4 has a large black cast. It has the tension! A wide range of characters with interesting motivations & relationships! A psycho bitch next door! A different protagonist archetype than the previous seasons who makes it fresh and new. GAETANO’S CRAZY EYES. c’mon. you’re missing out. but also fuck you bye #BLOCKED!!!
anyway. kisses to my fellow fargo lovers. all 2 of you lmao.

ethelrida for the ask meme?
Thank you! <3
Ethelrida Pearl Smutny
favorite thing about them: The fact that she doesn't take shit from anybody.
least favorite thing about them: She didn't give Oraetta's cute ginger cat any pets! (That we saw, at least.)
favorite line: "Is that what you see? A girl?"
brOTP: 🤷‍♀️ (We need to get her some friends who aren't her outlaw aunts...)
OTP: Lemuel, I guess... not super invested, though.
nOTP: 🤷‍♀️
random headcanon: Not my idea, but I've seen it suggested that she could be the author of "The History of True Crime in the Mid West," using a pen name. It's an interesting theory.
unpopular opinion: I can't think of one?
song i associate with them: "King of the World" by First Aid Kit (I'm nobody's baby / I'm everybody's girl / I'm the queen of nothing / I'm the king of the world)
favorite picture of them:

Just finished season 4 and I really liked it! More than season 3, I think. It is very stylistic, like you said. Loved how the introductions were done, the music/sound design and costuming! Ethelrida's outfits were my favs. I think I like the characters more in this season too. - joe keery anon 🎱
yay <333 !! i honestly don't get the hate s4 gets. and yes the introductions!! lives forever in my brain. i just thought it was so slick. ethelrida!! def one of the characters that translates SO well to her wardrobe. it feels like the costume designers have so much more fun with seasons in older periods. i agree - with s3 i had my favourites, but s4 felt like there was something to root for with everybody.
now we wait three months until s5.... </3

In terms of visuals, this episode (directed by Dearbhla Walsh) was frequently stunning. The ring of fire around the truck and the scenes with supernatural elements (!?) really stood out. So did a lot of the editing and split-screen stuff. It was a beautiful hour of television.
In terms of the storytelling, this episode moved the story along in leaps and bounds. Several characters learned significant information. So much so that it actually feels like a chapter you’d see late in the story. Clearly, it’s not as there seven episodes left.

Let It Out (Vincent Sinclair x OC)
Tumblr media
(Vincent is having a moment and Ethelrida is there to comfort him.)
-
She didn't know what brought it on. Was it the weight of the guilt he built up finally crushing him ? Was it Bo's earlier tirade about how his work was getting sloppy and that it was shitty and not what it should be and that he sullying their mom's name and legacy with his sloppiness ? Was it exhaustion ? Was it frustration with his work ? Was it just everything all at once ?
All Ethelrida knew was that when she went to ask Vincent what he wanted for dinner, he had his face in hid hands, mask off. When she went to touch his shoulder, he shook her away, but she noticed the violent shudder his body gave out and heard a pained gasp.
She sat herself next to him, on his work bench, just to let him know that she was there for him. She thought it was best that he come to her.
After a few minutes, Vincent just couldn't take it anymore and his face was soon buried into her chest, his hands gripping onto her shirt, letting out a heartbreaking wail as he finally released his pent up sobs, shoulders shaking violently.
Ethelrida couldn't do much, besides rub his back and shush him, doing her best to provide comfort, stroking his hair.
"It's alright, Vinny, it's alright..." She said in a hushed tone, as she continued to rub circles on the man's back. "I know you're upset, but please, try to breathe so that you don't make yourself sick or pass out."
It took a minute, but soon, his sobs weren't as violent, but he still let out quiet sobs, face still buried in Ethelrida's chest. She could feel a wet spot forming in between her breasts from Vincent's tears, but she didn't mind.
She stroked his hair and just held him, rocking him side to side, humming a soft song, until she felt Vincent's body start to relax. It wasn't long before his body went limp altogether, though his hands still had Ethelrida's shirt tightly in his grasp.
The poor man had cried himself to sleep. Ethelrida pressed a gentle kiss on the top of his head. She figured that she'd stay there for as he needed her and that making dinner could wait
and Bo could eat a dick if he was upset about it.
"Sleep tight, Vinny..." She whispered, pressing one last kiss to his crown.

You know why America loves a crime story? Because America is a crime story. But here’s the rub. When we hear a crime story, who do we root for? Not the poor sap that got taken, the victim. No. We root for the taker, the guy with the gat. See, this country loves a man who takes what he wants.
